Sherri Shepherd article in Precious Times magazine

by Winnie McCarthy

According to Black Voices, Sherri Shepherd will appear in the latest issue of Precious Times magazine, which is a magazine for “Today’s Black Christian Woman.”

The article includes how Christianity changed her life at a time when she was in an abusive relationship and “was sleeping with a lot of guys and had more abortions than I would like to count.” She also discusses her weight loss and Barbara Walters getting saved. You can read more at Black Voices.

” … and had more abortions than I would like to count.” ”

    This is news to me.

Does Sherri ever weigh in on the abortion topic when it comes up on the show? I mean about her own experience? Is she anti-choice? I’m very curious about her views on this.

  2. ShannonP Says:

I’m just baffled as to why she came out with that. It absolutely reflects negatively on her. I don’t know if it was because I think she has a book coming out and she wanted to get an interest in it, or if she’s afraid someone would leak the info so might as well come out with it.
I would like to know too if she has spoke out on the issue since she’s been on the show.

  3. Lopez Says:

More women she speak up about their abortions. It should be a taboo subject.

  4. Lopez Says:

    Let me try this again.

More women should speak up about their abortions. It should NOT be a taboo subject.

  5. Sandy Says:

    thanks Winnie & Shannon,

No matter the reason, I am happy for Sherri that her life got turned around.

  6. Stephanie Says:

Thats a nice picture of her on the cover

  7. ShannonP Says:

It kind of explains why she is such a religious fanatic too. Anyone that has had “more abortions than I’d like to count” is probably going to have some guilt about that down the road. How to get rid of some guilt? Suddenly become a relgious fanatic! Now she can be a “good Christian woman” “she’s found Christ”.
I think for someone that has had that kind of history, she’s more than a little hypocritical with all her judgements on the show.

  8. Sharon Says:

Accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior does not erase your past, make you perfect, or better than others. What it does make you is forgiven.

  9. Sharon Says:

Sorry, I should have said does not change.

  10. ShannonP Says:

Sharon, but it’s amazing how many people use religion as a cover for their misdeeds.
And for someone that comes out and says she’s had more abortions than she wants to count…I don’t really think she is in the position to act all high and mighty about certain things on the show, just because she’s hiding under the religion cover now.
Whether she has miraculously found religion or not, the fact is that is still her past, her experiences. She has come on pretty strong about others misdeeds on the show and I’m just saying it’s pretty hypocritical considering her own.

  11. Sharon Says:

I see where you are coming from and it is a legitimate point you make. We are all hypocritical about something but the majority of us are not on television giving others the opportunity to view our shortcomings. It is so easy to want to take the splinter out of anothers eye when we have a board in our own. I used to be a smoker but now that I am “reformed” I turn my nose up at those who do. That makes me a hypocrite. So I think she was saying look I did these things, this is how God helped me.

  12. Kit Kat Says:

    TMI Sherri.

  13. Stacee Says:

Apparently, on today’s show, Sherri addresses this interview. I read that she said the comments about Barb being saved and her many abortions were misconstrued.

  14. rainlillie Says:

    # 7. I completely agree.

  15. rainlillie Says:

All I can say is… Winnie, you are a saint and you have your work cut out for you. OMG! :)
If we’re feeling it on this end, I can imagine what you’re going through. I’ll check back in a few days when the topics being discussed are about the HT and other things View related. In any case your awesome and you do a great job here.
