Sherri Shepherd to chair March for Babies
View host Sherri Shepherd will be the celebrity chairwoman for the Los Angeles chapter of the March of Dimes “March for Babies.” The event, which will take place at the end of April, raises money for the March of Dimes, which funds lifesaving programs aimed at helping women in communities across the country have healthy babies. The organization carries out their mission through research, community services, education and advocacy. The event raised nearly $117 million last year.
As most of you know, Sherri’s son Jeffrey was born prematurely at only 25 weeks and weighed just 1 pound, 10 ounces. He remained in the NICU for several months. As a result of her son’s experience, Sherri has been very active with the March of Dimes. While she will be the celebrity chair for the Los Angeles chapter, New York Giant Eli Manning will chair the New York walk. I assume Sherri preferred to do the Los Angeles walk so that her son could accompany her to the event.
Sherri appears in a commercial for March for Babies with Dancing with the Stars host Tom Bergeron. The commercial is also embedded below. The pair discuss the name change of the event, which was formerly Walk America.
Walks of various distances (in my area it ranges from 3-9 miles) will take place all over the country, so if you want to participate, visit the Walk for Babies site. You can also learn more about donations and volunteering at the official site. It is a great cause if you are looking for a way to be charitable.
