Star Jones finally admits to gastric bypass

In the latest issue of Glamour magazine, Star Jones finally admitted what everyone already knew: her drastic weight loss came as a result of a gastric bypass surgery. As for the reason why she did reveal her surgery sooner, she had this to say:
First, I didn’t know if the surgery would work. I had never stuck to a diet or committed to exercise for more than a month, and I had spent my entire adult life telling everyone that I was fine with the way I looked. I also never thought I’d have to explain it. I actually thought that I could say, “None of your business,” and people would say, “OK, she wants to remain private.” If that isn’t evidence of someone not living in truth, I don’t know what is. Everything about me was already so public (mostly my own doing—talk about dumb!), so of course everyone wanted to know what I had done. I was also terrified someone would have a tragic result after emulating me without making an informed decision with her doctor. But the complete truth is, I was scared of what people might think of me. I was afraid to be vulnerable, and ashamed at not being able to get myself under control without this procedure.

That article was a great read. It really put things into perspective for me and sort of altered my view (no pun intended!) of Star and her silence regarding the surgery.
It seems like it was a burden for her carrying that around. In that respect, it’s nice that she came clean. I imagine she feels a lot better in doing so.

I still am not sure why she kept this a secret.

the only reason she came clean now is to get some publicity for her new Court TV show.

About the only other way that she would have reduced her size that quickly was if she was on crack- which was so not the case! It was pretty obvious it had to be gastric bypass.
Poor Starlet- I miss her because she was so unpredictable, and she always had an opinion. Agreed, Star knows all about the power of PR and how to work a media angle,so she did pull this admission out of her rainy day fund…applicable in this case for her new show.

WOW, you could knock me over with a feather!!! And all this time I thought it was Pilates that allowed her to lose half her considerable heft in a year! I’ll never believe another celebrity again.

[...] Star Jones Reynolds, who is on a publicity campaign for her new television show on Court TV, recently acknowledged that she alienated The View audience with her frequent discussion of her lavish wedding. Her unending discussion of the details of her wedding, along with her unwillingness to disclose that she had lost her weight as a result of gastric bypass surgery, caused viewers to turn away from her, and the show. That is reportedly why the show did not renew her contract. She did not admit to the surgery until last month. [...]

Court TV has been one of my favorite things to watch over the years. However, what were the powers that be thinking when they gave Star Jones a program slot. Does she honestly think anyone can take her serious? I mean she does have a problem with telling the truth and really appears to think she is entitled. No, I don’t watch her show; just seeing her on TV accidentally makes me ill. What a joke. She needs to look in a mirror and see what she really looks like. I am disappointed Court TV. What a joke!
