I did an experiment today. I knew that listening would drive me batty, but I figured they would talk about Wright and hoped to see the much-long-for smack-down, so I tuned in at the beginning - but with no sound. I wanted to see the body language of the other panelists. People kept commenting on it and I never noticed (probably because even when it’s on, I’m not really “watching,” I’m listening with it on in the background. So today I watched. It’s hysterical. (I lasted about 5 minutes then went over to check out Kathie Lee’s new gig.
What I saw today (and presumably has been going on for months given the comments of others) begs the question - what are the producers thinking???????????? If I wanted to present my stars in the best light, I would not put the body language that I saw today, on the screen. They undoubtedly have several cameras, and could just focus on EH when she speaks if necessary. Or they seem to give marching orderes about other things, they could insist the other panelists look interested. The body language of Sherri & Joy was priceless.
Which leads me to the conclusion that EH is there to be the person you love to hate. I assume the producers know exactly what they are doing. She certainly isn’t there because someone thinks she is articulate - if so, then why would they show faces of the other panelists telegraphing disdain.
If I were EH, I would not be too happy with the producers showing these angles even as she is speaking. Of course, it might be softened by the check at the end of the day. But that’s very expensive money - not good for the soul (of the payor or payee.)
April 30th, 2008 at 11:24 am
Wow the show was really heated today! Whoopi and EH were really going at it. Of course Baba Wawa is gonna come back and say they all love each other sooo much. Its so obvious they dont!
April 30th, 2008 at 12:09 pm
She’s an idiot AND she’s rude. Why is it that she believes she is the only person with a valid opinion?
Lajet - I agree with you. She’s not there for her brains (nor her looks). Marketing 101
She still needs to do her roots.
April 30th, 2008 at 12:37 pm
she is there merely for Bill Geddie…
say, isn’t it true in Christianity that if *you think the deed, it’s already been done*?
*lol*
April 30th, 2008 at 12:58 pm
PRIOR POST: she is there merely for Bill Geddie
RESPONSE: I’ve never understood this (you may be right, and I may be missing some important information) My problem is: If BG wanted her there (for whatever reason besides ratings and having someone you love to hate), why would he have so many screens of EH’s cohosts showing their disgust and disdain of what she is saying. He would be protective of her. Instead, he throws her to the wolves to be held up to riducule and scorn. That smacks of marketing rather than any fondness for EH or her poltiics.
April 30th, 2008 at 1:22 pm
Leave EH alone! She is just giving her view on the situation.. Can’t she have an opinion? I respect her for her bravery and confidence that she shows every day!
April 30th, 2008 at 1:33 pm
Finally…a Hagee mention. I loved how Joy and Whoopi had their quotes ready too.
I did not enjoy the Emmy nomination ceremony. I thought it was a poor format.
I got a kick out of Tyra’s story where she met Whoopi and then Whoopi subsequently sending Tyra flowers. That was really sweet.
April 30th, 2008 at 1:39 pm
I agree, Jon.
April 30th, 2008 at 1:48 pm
Jon, she can have an opinion, but she needs to allow others to have their opinions too. (If she had an intelligent opinion, that would be a plus, but either way…..she gets an opinion.)
MiamiVision - you’re correct! Did anyone notice that Barbie wears her star like she’s a Christian? What happened to treating others as you’d like to be treated?
April 30th, 2008 at 1:49 pm

April 30th, 2008 at 1:52 pm
I agree , Jon
For whatever the reason: EH is doing her job.
April 30th, 2008 at 2:25 pm
PRIOR POST: For whatever the reason: EH is doing her job.
RESPOSNE: I’m beginning to believe you.
Then the question is “what is her job?” I’m beginning to believe TPTB want her to be obnoxious and illogical because there’s money to be made in having someone that everyone loves to hate and tuning in to see the train wreck. It’s the only think that makes sense to me, based on all the things I know.
April 30th, 2008 at 2:32 pm
I will not watch the view any longer!
Everytime EH opens her mouth, my Blood pressure
goes out of sight. Just from yelling at the
T.V. when she starts her Rant.
April 30th, 2008 at 2:53 pm
Lajet: “That smacks of marketing rather than any fondness for EH or her poltiics.”
I think your answer to “what is her job”….might be in your above comment.
Speaking of a train wreck, remember Rosie being thrown to the wolves? Just about this time last year. ( in my opinion ) Yes it does smack of marketing marketing marketing.
BTW- I am a daily viewer of the show and I am making an observation comment, not meant to be critical.
April 30th, 2008 at 3:05 pm
Elisabeth was just rude today. Let Whoopi finish her sentence. I wish Elisabeth would just leave. What was up with her and her cell phone the other day?
April 30th, 2008 at 3:30 pm
Hold on to your hats: She/he’s back!
April 30th, 2008 at 3:32 pm
I’m switching to Kathy Lee also, she’s fun and it’s a more interesting show. They’re obviously going after the View audience. I’m so sick of listening and looking at EH that I have to have some time off, I will miss Joy. She was great last night on Larry King.
April 30th, 2008 at 3:44 pm
It’s not about her having an opinion, it’s how she chooses to express them. There isn’t a need for her to yell and rudely point her finger…which automatically makes others feel defensive.
“Finally…a Hagee mention. I loved how Joy and Whoopi had their quotes ready too.”
That was great Stacee!
“I respect her for her bravery and confidence that she shows every day!”
It has been my experience that the confident and brave people; are the ones who don’t feel the need to shout others down. They sit back and wait for the loudmouth to finish her rant, and then they calmly and politely get their point across.
April 30th, 2008 at 4:20 pm
EH was very vexing today. She seemed extra defensive with Whoopi when she was asked a direct question about if she was now satisfied with Obama’s response to Wright; she couldn’t just say no, she had to say something like -it’s not just me, other people too…I hate that! Claim your own opinion. She has such a group mentality.
April 30th, 2008 at 5:29 pm

RESPONSE: I think I remember something about “Defend your own insinuations.”
yet another example of different rules for different folks.
April 30th, 2008 at 6:07 pm
I find it rather funny, that TLB would like to hold Obama responsible for words spoken by another man, but she doesn’t want to hold Bush responsible for invading Iraq. It’s always well, he got bad intelligence or everyone thought there were WMD.
Republicans even blamed the lack of response to hurricane Katrina, mainly on the State government. Has GWB ever been held responsible for anything?
April 30th, 2008 at 6:15 pm
I wanted to post this on twop but I’m twarted. Bitsy was a kook in my mind when she said after the 04 elections that she felt “safe.” I remember the headline: “How can 59 million people be so stupid?” 4,000 US soldiers lives lost, 10’s of thousand more maimed, countless innocent Iraqi civilians killed, the economy in a tailspin . . . this has been nightmare because of people who think as she thinks.
April 30th, 2008 at 6:54 pm
This is my first time reading this website. I am on the verge of HATING EH! She does not respect other people’s opinions if they are different from hers. Sometimes, I believe she is on the verge of a nervous break down. I agree she is not articulate and that whinning voice gets on my nerve. I enjoyed Joy on Larry King last night. Also, Larry had a survey posted on his website: Who’s your favorite View host. Joy had the most votes. Whoppi second, EH third, Sherri, fourth, and Barbi last.
April 30th, 2008 at 7:46 pm
Does anyone know what it was that Whoopi brought up on Monday that Elisabeth wanted to wait a day to talk about - President Bush’s press conference must have cut it out.
April 30th, 2008 at 8:37 pm
Holly, that site is horrid. Someone with serious control issues in in charge there. I got muzzled for talking about how EH serves the purpose on the show of getting viewers. Whether people tune in because they hate her and are waiting for an explosion or they tune in because they love her, the point is they are tuning in and that’s all that matters to the producers of the show. I made the mistake of asking why people still tune in if they hate her so much, just in a conversational way. But that is talking about the board, not the show. So on went my muzzle and I was directed to a week long time out lol.
April 30th, 2008 at 8:40 pm
Alex, I wouldn’t think that poll would be that reflective of which host really is people’s favorites because the audience for Larry King is probably drastically different than for the View. Some people just probably voted on name recognition, not because they watch the actual show.
April 30th, 2008 at 9:06 pm
I love it when people write in to rosie & fill her in on the freak show The View has become, thanks to EH & BG. (Rosie’s responses are in brackets.)
Q:
I noticed something strange on The View web site. You can no longer email the cohost directly. You have to email Bil G and then I guess he decides who is heard or not heard. Hmmmmmm
[he is the view master]
Q:
Ro, I cannot stand to hear one more day of that Eliz, good god, she sounds like a little yapping dog, she never quits, Whopie is about to scream. No wonder you left. She is a NUT CAKE, right winger
[and hold on
cause may sweeps is here
may 23
was wacko wednesday]
Q:
Thought Whoopi was going to give it to EH today! Oooh they were getting heated! She’s gonna snap!
[believe in whoopi
i do]
April 30th, 2008 at 9:17 pm
ShannonP, I do not understand TWOP at all. Your comments sound like they were strictly about the show, The View. So why would they have a problem?
I’m enjoying the comments of Alex, Carol, MiamiVision, Nancy, Holly, a View Regular, and hope they come back to post more often. JoanCrawford, I’ll hold on to my hat tho I have no idea why. Lajet I love your experiment!
I get that BG is Henry Higgins to EH’s Eliza Doolittle … but does she fight on the show so stupidly and ignorantly and with such anger because she believes whatever fool “facts” BG has fed her, or because she thinks she’ll lose her job if she shows independent thought, a healthy skepticism, etc.? She looked terrified when she turned to BW the other day and said she hoped she stlill had her job.
I wish that CNN poll about favorite cohost on the View were still around. Larry announced the poll while interviewng Joy last night, so I’m sure Joy’s fans were watching and voting. Winnie, could we have polls here for such things?
Rainlillie, I agree Bush is never held accountable. His supporters have babied him from day one in office. I’m afraid these same people will put McCain in office. They have not learned any lessons from their horrendous decision to vote for Bush.
April 30th, 2008 at 10:33 pm
Rain!! nice to see u again!!!
Ok that begin said.. I didnt watch the show.. no recap.. so I wont respond to the non recap.. butttt….
heehehhe
OMG!! are u kidding peeps?? EH is a spawn of the she devil exploding in self righteousness while spewing verses of the first testament while speaking tongues of the end of life if u dont conform to the GOP way!!!
I’m just saying..
……

#29, Aileen:”Ok that begin said.. I didnt watch the show..”
No problem, Aileen. Just replay the last show you do remember seeing and you’ll get the idea! Same old, same old.
–
Did anyone see Jon Stewart last night playing clips of Hannity saying “for 20 years he sat in that pew” over and over again? Just like EH only half an octive lower. I wish someone would do a video, split screen, of EH parroting him.
May 1st, 2008 at 6:04 am
THANKS FOR THE POLL, Winnie!!
I made a comment but it didn’t show up. I wondered who had voted for EH.
May 1st, 2008 at 7:53 am
Thanks Shelly. Very interesting!
I’m becoming convinced there was far more behind Rosie’s leaving than the split screen, although the split screen may have been a great metaphor for the entire experience. I don’t think Rosie is perfect (nor do I think she would claim to be), but I do think she is the consumate professional and very real. It would have been great to see Rosie and Sherri work together - some very different stances, but a great humanity behind each in very different ways. Rosie gives her all and expects others to work hard. THis show not only has EH on for some unfathomable reason, but they don’t require the cohosts to do research, they don’t train them in how to have a cordial debate (there are LOTS of books out there, and even more psychologists trained, and I suspect a lot could be done with just 10 hours of training), they don’t know how to use monitors, they don’t make the necessary accommodations to keep someone with dyslexia (I’m pretty sure) from working with the monitor in a way that obviously isn’t working, etc. etc. etc.
I’m thinking there is yet another agenda going on with the TPTB, perhaps at a level above the VM.

Lajet,
# 1, interesting experiment.
I actually like that the host are more or less just themselves, and shown that way. As in the body language, some times faces, and spontaneous jokes. It just seems more real and natural. More like just some women sitting around talking and expressing their opinions. since the show is live, some of that is going to be seen anyway, even if the camera crew tried not to. (I think).
Nothing against your experiment, I thought it was interesting. I just wanted to express my opinion on the body language and some times faces & jokes.
I agree with some of your points in # 33.
I always enjoy your comments, usually very logical and unbiased.
May 1st, 2008 at 10:09 pm
#33
I’ve enjoyed your theories, too, Lajet I agree with your comments about Rosie and how professional she is. It would have been great to see her with Sherri, and with Whoopi. When she was on the show, she complained didn’t she about the camera angles. I think she had some good ideas for the show based on having had her own show…but I gather BG didn’t want to hear them. Sometimes I get the idea ABC is kind of a cheap operation. The vermin we’ve heard about, the building, dressing rooms, etc., being a real dump. But overall standards on TV with pundit shows are quite low. Fox is a big contributor with the jazzy 3-ring circus they’ve got going on on the screen with loud music and a million crawls. Their dumb anchors, and of course the dumb analysis of news. And other stations have copied the tricks and formats. Surely that would then have affected BG’s vision of how their show should approach table discussions on air?
What do you think the other agenda is, above that of BG’s? I assume you mean ABC?
What’s this abou† dyslexia? Oh, Whoopi? The cards?
.
May 2nd, 2008 at 11:32 am
PRIOR POST: What do you think the other agenda is, above that of BG’s?
RESPONSE: I have my speculation, but I don’t feel comfortable stating it because it is not kind, and I’m not certain enough that I’m on the right track.
What I think I know is:
1. If you want a project to fail (speaking of the corporate America in general, or education, or not-for-profits, not TV in particular) and for some reason you can’t just squelch it, you can do the following
a. don’t fund it properly
b. don’t give the worker-bees the necessary training to do well
c. place staff you can predict will cause problems (e.g due to incompetence, or inability to play well with others, etc).
d. Set participants up to look bad (like making the person with dylexia read from the teleprompter (possibly ill-placed)
e. overmanage
f. PUt someone in contrary to the spirit of the program (e.g. like what I think Bush did with PBS)
PRIOR POST: I assume you mean ABC?
RESPONSE: I’m not sure how many layers are between BW/BG and the President of ABC, so really don’t know where the issue (if there is one) may be.
I have no idea if there is such an agenda. I’m just seeing indicators. Another option is the whoever is above BW/GD is just incompetent.
May 15th, 2008 at 9:30 am
It was so fun hearing about all the nominees on the View. I just wish some of my favorites were nominated. Oh, well, there’s always next year!
June 5th, 2008 at 7:14 am
This year’s award show is going to be great! Although cbs took a lot of the noms, I’m rooting for OLTL to win best drama series!
