Hi Roger et al. Is Whoopi doing a Scottish voice? I know she is trying to sound like Shrek but it sounds Scottish to me too.
I’ve seen this show before but I like seeing the gals on the panel, especially their hairdos and fashions.
April 6th, 2009 at 9:06 am
Joy and Whoopi seem to be participating so much more than on recent March shows.

We got four inches of snow last night and this morning here in Chicagoland. The White Sox had to cancel their opening day game. C’mon, Spring!
I reviewed this show’s original thread. That was a fun day. We got to meet gonnavent. We met up for steaks in Omaha. There were cabana boys and pina coladas. I guess we just need to make our own fun without any help from the ladies of The View.

Yes ! It is spring break week !!!! Lets go back to sunny south and get you out of the snow.
April 6th, 2009 at 9:33 am
We had spring break last week, so it’s nice and quiet here with the old dude back to work and the kids back to school. We painted the kitchen last week, so this week I’m cleaning everything we neglected last week. I didn’t miss you, toilets, but you obviously missed me!
I can’t go too far south anyway…my pale Irish skin can’t take it.
April 6th, 2009 at 9:36 am
Chicagoland is one great town. On the Magnificent Mile, the buildings are like an outside museaum to me–I love their architecture so much. And the foood! Taste of Chicago and fireworks…and shopping! Lincoln Park…Glencoe’s flower shows and gardens…Art Institute and Science Museum. Going out on the Lake and looking back at the City…Chicago is like a Disneyland for me.
April 6th, 2009 at 11:10 am
This is really going to suck all week. I’ve got an entire house to clean and no one to give me any respite. I love to sneak back to the computer for ten or twenty minutes and find something to laugh about when I’m up to my elbows in socks to sort and what-not. I can’t wait until next week.

Pepperbird: I was typing to you but this place wouldn’t take my link which was from McClatchy’s article/website, so I copy/pasted the entire thing in here. Oh, and have I mentioned lately how MUCH I DETEST HUGO CHAVEZ? He’s a lying pig….we know this here in S. Florida. We ARE hoping for the best regarding Cuba, however, and our relations with Cuba. (Pppsssst - this trip is also not jet setting…*grins*)
Have a great day everyone! I’m outta here for the day *S*

Up next for Obama, the Summit of the Americas
By Lesley Clark, Jacqueline Charles and Frances Robles | McClatchy Newspapers
WASHINGTON — Blood is being shed on the streets of northern Mexico.
Venezuela’s Hugo Chávez is ratcheting up his anti-Washington rhetoric.
And pressure is mounting on the United States to make serious changes in its relationship with Cuba — changes beyond the imminent loosening of restrictions on travel to the island and on Cuban Americans sending money to their relatives back home.
Against that backdrop, President Barack Obama will make his official entrance into Latin America next week when he attends the fifth Summit of the Americas. He will be one of 34 heads of government assembled in Port of Spain, the capital of Trinidad and Tobago, for what experts say will be a major step in reconciling a bruised and neglected relationship.
It will be the first hemispheric summit in which every head of government was democratically elected. Cuba, which isn’t a member of the Organization of American States, was not invited to participate, much to Chávez’s irritation.
It will be Obama’s first summit in the hemisphere, and the first for several of the presidents who will be jockeying for face time with the man who is arguably the world’s most popular leader.
`CRUCIAL MOMENT’
“This is an important summit,” Thomas Shannon, assistant secretary of state for hemispheric affairs, told experts and diplomats assembled at the Inter-American Dialogue think tank last month. “The summit of Mar del Plata [in 2005] in many ways was evidence of the growing pains that are taking place in the region. I think what we’re facing in Trinidad and Tobago is a crucial moment in the history of summitry and in the broader relationships within the Americas.”
Officially, six topics are on the summit agenda: prosperity, energy, the environment, security, democratic governance and the summit process itself.
The economic crisis that threatens to erase the gains in the fight against hemispheric poverty promises to be a vital point of discussion.
The Associated Press and The Wall Street Journal both reported Saturday that Obama would announce before the summit that he is lifting long-standing restrictions on Cuban Americans visiting the island and sending money to their relatives in Cuba.
That could conceivably help push Cuba to the sidelines of the summit agenda, although some hemispheric leaders insist it is time for the United States to consider easing or rescinding the trade embargo on Cuba. Obama has given no indication he would go that far.
The president faces the prospect of a grandstanding President Chávez, who during the 2005 summit in Argentina held a rival event nearby. The two leaders are expected to meet face to face at a closed-door retreat with only the 34 heads of government in attendance.
“The last summit, we all know, was not diplomacy’s finest hour,” said Jeff Davidow, a former ambassador to both Mexico and Venezuela who is now a White House special advisor for the summit. “It would seem to me unfortunate if that were to be replicated, and I know there are topical issues that the United States could raise that any country could raise. I think it’s important to go beyond those.”
The United States has long been criticized for dictating policy not just on Cuba but throughout the region, and this summit is Obama’s first chance to show his closest neighbors a different kind of foreign policy. In a region still smarting over decades-old interventions by the United States, not everyone is convinced.
McClatchy correspondent Tyler Bridges contributed to this report from Caracas.

Plot to assassinate Obama foiled in Turkey
Turkey resident of Syrian origin arrested
Man appeared to have press credential, planned to stab Obama
U.S. officials confirm allegations, say man’s story being checked
Obama was in France on day of man’s arrest, and arrived in Turkey on Sunday
By Ed Henry
CNN Senior White House Correspondent
ISTANBUL, Turkey (CNN) — U.S. officials have taken “very seriously” a plot to assassinate President Barack Obama involving a Syrian man who was arrested late last week in Turkey, according to two U.S. officials familiar with the matter.
President Barack Obama addresses the Turkish parliament on Monday.
But the officials strongly cautioned that American presidents are frequent targets of threats that are all watched very carefully, and in this case the alleged plotter did not appear to get anywhere close to Obama during his European tour.
The officials also noted that while Obama gets more threats than usual as the first African-American U.S. president, this particular threat did not force any change to his schedule.
“Life goes on,” said one of the officials familiar with the matter, who suggested the threat may be getting more attention because there has been a heavy international focus on Obama’s first overseas trip since taking office.
White House officials declined to comment on the matter, citing a policy of not talking about security and threats around the president. U.S. Secret Service officials spoke only briefly about the case.
“We work closely with the host country whenever there is an arrest, which we are doing in this matter,” Secret Service spokesman Ed Donovan said.
The plot was first reported by the Saudi Arabian newspaper al-Watan, which revealed that Turkish security services arrested a man of Syrian origins Friday in connection with a plan to kill Obama during his visit to Turkey. Obama was in Strasbourg, France, on Friday for a NATO summit and did not arrive in Turkey for the final leg of his trip until Sunday.
The Saudi paper reported the suspect, who was carrying an Al-Jazeera TV press credential in the name of “M.G.,” confessed to authorities after his arrest that he and three alleged accomplices plotted to stab Obama with a knife during the Alliance of Civilizations Summit in Istanbul, which Obama attended on Monday evening. The U.S. officials confirmed those allegations, but stressed to CNN that the information provided by the man is still being verified.
Al-Jazeera’s bureau chief in Ankara, Turkey, Yucef al-Sharif, told the newspaper his news organization knew nothing about the man and suggested he may have obtained a forged press credential. According to U.S. officials, it’s unclear whether the man, a permanent resident of Istanbul, had obtained a real press credential.
On Sunday, U.S. and international journalists covering Obama’s trip did face more extensive searches of their baggage than usual by the U.S. Secret Service before boarding a press charter flight from the Prague, Czech Republic, region to Ankara. The same extensive searches were conducted Monday before a flight from Ankara to Istanbul.
But U.S. officials downplayed the possibility the more extensive searches were done out of concern that plotters may have infiltrated the media. Instead, the officials suggested that since Turkish security officials had not necessarily handled such a large crush of media before, U.S. Secret Service officials simply wanted to go the extra mile in their searches.
April 7th, 2009 at 1:29 pm
Now the Turkish authorities are saying that the plot was a hoax and the U.S. Secret Service is saying the President was never in immediate danger.
Evil needs to destroy goodness and love to survive and I will hold my breath until the next eight years are over. I’m tired of evil in big and little ways. It’s exhausting. It’s horrifying to watch people’s need to ruin all that is good in life. (Guess who’s having a bad day?)
April 7th, 2009 at 2:42 pm
unrelated to anything above but interested in lieu of the fact that today’s show was a repeat about teenagers:
In the show airing April 6, Johnston tells Tyra Banks that he believes Sarah Palin knew he and Bristol, 18, were having sex when they lived under her roof. “I’m pretty sure she probably knew. Moms are pretty smart,” Johnston says.
In other Palin family troubles, the half sister of Palin’s husband Todd was accused of breaking into the same Wasilla, Alaska, house twice to steal money, the Associated Press reports. Diana Palin, 35, was charged with felony burglary and misdemeanor criminal trespass and theft stemming from two break-ins this week.
April 7th, 2009 at 3:38 pm
(((hug))) to Bern for having a bad day….
Right, he was NOT in immediate danger as he wasn’t in Turkey yet (BO) -
The Syrian perp was arrested while Barack Obama was still in France (hadn’t gotten to Turkey yet, and I think went to Germany after France and then to Turkey).
Bern, hope you have a nicer evening!! *S*
April 7th, 2009 at 4:56 pm
Thanks, Miami, I needed that.
For the record, I don’t believe the Turkish authorities. I also don’t believe the 17-year-old Pakistani girl who was flogged on video, when she now says that she wasn’t actually beaten.

Thanks for the additional info Miami. I read an article that said the anonymous tip was tracked to an IP address in the US.
Staying on topic of the 4/6 show and to answer Meredith’s question: I saw the interview and Levi says he thought Palin knew, though he does not know for sure. I don’t believe that, but anything is possible.
I don’t think he lived with them during that time frame; I think he mentioned he moved in around the time the baby was due. Palin denies this. On this, I believe him.

Boy kellyjo - couldn’ t agree with you more on those dang far left a$$ libs . Nothin’ but trouble, they are. You know when you review the history of this country, you know what those far left crazy a$$ libs gave us:
- women’s right to vote
- the civil rights act
- medicare
- social security
- clean air
- clean water
- the 40 hour/ 5-day work week
- minimum wage
- child labor laws
- family leave act
- a women’s rights over their reproductive choices
- the free public school system - education for all
- inter-state highway system
- an end to the Viet Nam war, 58,000 deaths
- regulations on banks
This is a short list.
Any of you “crazy a$$ libs” care to add to the list ?
April 8th, 2009 at 9:41 am
Well Diane, I could be completely superficial and say “crazy a$$ libs” gave us some the best music ever and some of the best movies ever. Which they did but in all seriousness, I think Head Start can be added to your list.
And the most important thing “crazy a$$ libs” have given us is HOPE. That is something all “liberals” believe in is hope. The left is always trying to make things better for EVERYONE. The right is always trying to make things better for the people who need the least help. The left believe you help people by giving them HOPE, the right believe you can control people by causing them FEAR.
“Begone with them, once and for all. Oh, for the love of country—-let this happen.”
Kellyjo, this will be the last time I ever acknowledge your presence on WTV. If you are in such disagreement with the “crazy a$$ libs” in control then why don’t YOU begone. President Obama is doing everything he can to fix the huge mess GWB left behind. He is willing to admit mistakes were made and that problems won’t be solved overnight. GWB and his administration will never take responsibility for the damage they have done and the lies they told. When this economy turns around and you benefit from it will then use Hasselbeck logic and say “Well if GWB hadn’t screwed things up then Obama wouldn’t have had anything to do.”?
The right wing can try to lay everything at President Obama’s door but the American people know better. For the love of THEIR country they elected HIM.
April 8th, 2009 at 10:09 am
Well said SusieQ - you are one crazy A$$ Lib.
Oh - I just have more Crazy A$$ LIB ideas: kellyjo, have you ever heard of “COBRA”.
Do you know anyone that has lost their job and their health insurance lately? What are they doing about healthe insurance for their families if they are unemployed?
COBRA = The Health Insurance Portability Act - authored by Senator Ted Kennedy.
The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) provides rights and protections for participants and beneficiaries in group health plans. HIPAA includes protections for coverage under group health plans that limit exclusions for preexisting conditions; prohibit discrimination against employees and dependents based on their health status; and allow a special opportunity to enroll in a new plan to individuals in certain circumstances.
HIPAA may also give you a right to purchase individual coverage if you have no group health plan coverage available, and have exhausted COBRA or other continuation coverage.
What a crazy A$$ idea. The nerve. Giving Americans the right to purchase health insurance if the suddenly lose their jobs.

I doubt you will respond kellyjo… I have heard many right wing nut cases make these comments…..but this is for you.
“You are either with us or against us”
“America, love it or leave it”
So kellyjo….. pay attention now….. If you dont like the way YOUR president is running things….. then you are against us…. if you dont like how things will get better then get the hell out….. your kind isnt welcome any more…. I think Russia is looking for people to control their population.

On 3/3 Juliaanne was chatting about picking her former HS boyfriend from the airport and she was appalled when “He claims that Obama having been in charge for 3 months (his words, not mine) is entirely responsible for the economy and Bush is faultless.
Kellyjo replied “Your HS boyfriend is ok in my book.”
Several posters asked her to clarify. I guess she just did.

Kellyjo - no offense, but it seems to me that you would be much better off at some blog site that encourages your point of view; however, WTV and this particular group of posters does not seem to fit. Yes, freedom of speech and you have a right to be here and post whatever you like. However, seems to me that you’d be far happier at a blog/website where others support your view(s).

I tried to put up a post with a link to my paint color and it went into moderation. I will try again to put the link in the body of the post. Put a www and a dot in front of it, then replace the (DOT) with a real one and move the spaces together and see if it works. When you get there, try to imagine a color that is the combination of pickling spice and canary grass.

Re: Post # 25. I clearly recall kellyjo’s remark from the other day. Didn’t feel the need to respond. Oh, but today - gosh, I just felt like it. I also recall kellyjo mentioning that people tell her that she looks like Elizabeth Hasselbeck.
Nah, I’m not touching that one - its just too dang obvious.
April 8th, 2009 at 1:27 pm
I have to warn you if you use the site, the numbers and names are NOT the same. I just bought the paint and it’s actually Pittsburgh Paint N-284 called sprawling wheat. I couldn’t find it, which is why I had to give you a pair of colors and ask you to imagine.
IMAGINE.
Imagine there’s no countries
It isn’t hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace
IMAGINE.

I wonder if she’ll resurrect as SusieCujo or Diane from F.U.? Perhaps NuclearVision or 2ndDegreeBern? Never can tell with these trolls. Interesting little creatures.
April 8th, 2009 at 2:10 pm
I am going to ask a question.I ask it with affection and friendship to all of us. Please explain to me, when it is okay to have a different point of view with each other and still be welcome to the blog.I never felt that we had to be left wing nuts in order to enjoy each other and the view. I do not think that Winnie intended for us to have an Elisabeth / Rosie smackdown.
Maybe it has to do with the way someone ( troll? ) slants a comment. I never thought of this site as a policial blog. I thought it was simply people watching the view and sharing conversation and views about the day’s show.
I am taking a terrible chance by submitting this ” dumb-dumb” question. I am happy here and just have to wonder why things like Kellyjo get so out of whack.
April 8th, 2009 at 2:11 pm

On a lighter note…………… I am LOL.. at your comment.
April 8th, 2009 at 2:25 pm
Marilyn, your question is quite understandable and you framed it very diplomatically, New York blogger friend.
I will speak for myself: I ’stumbled’ on to this blog last October-ish, when I had enough of E Hasselbeck’s spewing regarding the spirited election debates we all witnessed on The View last year. I unexpectedly discovered, that although this site, as you say, was to talk about the day’s show - I found, to my delight, commraderie, insight, shared concerns, intelligent thought, and even humor(which usually accompanies intelligence in anyone) among many on other issues of the day. It’s a natural. That said, the election is over; the View is most often boring. BUT, the voices on this blog are still watching the news of the day, sharing concerns and ideas over universal problems tht Americans face - so we still talk. And in between talk of serious issues, we may get silly or may share a personal anecdote, and I find it wonderful. And most human.
So kellyjo and others with different ideas are certainly welcome - but when you put an idea , especially in an unexplained sort of ‘passing remark’ way out there on a community board, you have to expect comments, criticisms, compliments, questions, counter-points, support, whatever.
April 8th, 2009 at 2:31 pm

April 8th, 2009 at 2:36 pm
Oh and just a little more of the back story on counter point posts:
Sometimes when detailed counter point posts are made on this blog to a brief post earlier on the same thread, it is often a response to a pattern of posts and like remarks from that same person. Thus, my post#18 today was no just in response to kellyjo’s post #15 - I was dialing back to a same pattern of thought expressed by her on several earlier occassions.
Kind of like when new bloggers here, say’ gosh why are you picking on Elizabeth Hasselbeck today - she didn’t say anything wrong…..”. Thus, we respond while trying not to urp up our food.

Marilyn, you’re question wasn’t dumb. I have no problem with having an intelligent debate with posters who don’t share my views. I do however have a problem with someone who purposely says things to get a rise out of posters who don’t share THEIR view. Which IMO is what certain posters do here. Kinda like what Elisabeth does on the View.

Now mibi, I don’t know what Kelly told you about the 12 step program but just because it’s free doesn’t mean it doesn’t come with a price. You have to have your tv programmed to only play Fox News, you have to have the 10 Commandments tattooed on your arm, since we all know that’s the REAL Constitution and most importantly, you have to be willing to relocate, you know if you are currently living in an unamerican state.

AAhhhh susieq - you don’t know HOW true this is for me - my ex-husband, a former lover of leftist ideals, after I divorced him went thru the real 12-step program and eventually came out clean, sober, and a right-winged fool!!! I still don’t know how things like this happen!
April 8th, 2009 at 3:36 pm
yep, YOU got it, Kel *S*
April 8th, 2009 at 4:54 pm
YOU MIGHT BE A REDNECK IF:
- you have one working TV on top of a non-working TV.
- you have 3, 4, no 5 hound dogs underneath your front porch.
- you go to family reunions to meet eligible potential spouses.
OH WAIT - so sorry - I forgot what we were talking about.

TRUE CONFESSION:
I am re-reading my earlier posts # 35 and #37: Yikes: they are way too friggin’ verbose. Sorry. I aspire to write with more clarity like many of you here….

I never mind debate (as I’ve said before). Smart, informed debate can make you think of things that you’ve never considered before. I’m a huge fan.
I don’t care for fights (unless they are among hockey players) because they are characterized by name-calling and stupidity (like hockey fights).
I like to think of myself as Third Degree Bern…intense!
Excellent names for trolls, Kelly. You rock!
April 8th, 2009 at 6:59 pm
That’s the thing Bern, you can’t “debate” with certain people. Elisabeth Hasselbeck is a perfect example. She will never debate, she will just regurgitate talking points. And if you confront her with logic she turns into someone who has Tourettes and starts shouting Ayers, Jeremiah Wright and I’m sure the new word of the day will be tyranny.
I have pretty much always had the same political leanings and I will respect someone who doesn’t share my leanings but I expect the same in return.

“I have pretty much always had the same political leanings and I will respect someone who doesn’t share my leanings but I expect the same in return.”
Great point, susieq. Talking points are not debate.

Great discussion everyone!
I have always been an Independent and have voted across party lines. Which is why I relish a “debate.” Now I’m a CAL, however!
Suppose that is why Elisabeth drives me mad. I would really appreciate a thinking and articulate Republican on that panel, or at least an Independent. Somehow, for me, SS doesn’t count. Palin could manage chairs for the PTA and Jeffrey could dream comments come to mind.
I love this board for being thought-provoking. Something The View no longer is.
Plus a lot of fun.
Kelly - I loved your troll names too. LOL
April 8th, 2009 at 7:51 pm
Mary, that is what is wrong with the Republican Party. There ARE thinking and articulate members of the party but they never get the press that the wing nuts do.
And speaking as a longtime CAL, welcome and I hope you make it a lifetime membership.

If you all make a fortune with your CRAZY A$$ LIB stand-up tour, I want 10%! I figure if Foxworthy can make a mint with his redneck jokes, you guys will soon be rich.

Tell ya what Winnie, I’d be willing to give you 20% because you’re the one that brought all of us stand-up comics together. The View on the other hand doesn’t get a dime, I feel like they’ve gotten enough from me over the years.
April 9th, 2009 at 8:20 am
Have been enjoying the vacay from watching The View (cannot watch repeats!) but just read all your comments and am laughing- thanks for all the great thoughts! And, yes, the “hit-and-runs” here don’t debate, they just drop off their load of poop like a bird flying low and wait for reactions…..trolls,all. You know who you are…..lOL!

#32 Marilyn–
Maybe it has to do with the way someone ( troll? ) slants a comment. I never thought of this site as a policial blog.
I have been keeping myself distracted and am just now keeping up.
Im sure this has been answered Marilyn, but I felt that I should respond since you worded your question so eloquently.
I welcome opposing views… thats how we all grow…… thats how we learn and understand. People like Kellyjo arent putting out their views to share… but to shoot down those that disagree with her. She shot out her thoughts and left… she didnt want to discuss them… she didnt want to defend them… she didnt want to explain them. It didnt seem honest to me.
I am taking a terrible chance by submitting this ” dumb-dumb” question. I am happy here and just have to wonder why things like Kellyjo get so out of whack
I can only speak for myself…. but Im sure that Il be backed up when I say this….. You are not taking any kind of a chance by asking this question….. and there is nothing dumb about it…. You marilyn may have different views than I do, you may have different ideas than mine, but there is one thing that you always have when you disagree with me…. that is why you are always welcome in any convo that I am having….. that one thing that you have is respect…. and I thank you for that.

TRUTH: As a fence sitter to the very end, I merely voted against McCain/Palin is why I voted the way I did and chose Obama. Also, I found (still do find) Michelle very endearing.
