The View April 9th Mini Recap: Trisha Yearwood and Eddie Izzard
This is going to be a quick summary of The View rather than a comprehensive recap, because I am under some time constraints this week. They talked about General Petraeus speaking before Congress. Elisabeth Hasselbeck said that he seemed to give a note of caution and things could go either way, adding that it was nice to hear from someone who has been there and knows what the real situation is. Joy Behar said that he would not give a definite timeline for withdrawal, taking the path, like the Supreme Court did with pornography, saying he will know it when he sees it. Whoopi Goldberg says that she wants the troops to be taken care of when they get back home.
They talked about American Airlines canceling flights due to failed inspections. Whoopi seemed highly upset about it considering she never flies. She was worried people would lose their money, but Joy said that she thought that they put them on other flights.
They talked about American Idol. Sherri and Elisabeth liked the guy that sang “Somewhere over the Rainbow.” Joy said that Brooke White acted like she had hemorrhoids. She also pointed out how Carly was thrown off during her performance because she saw Simon Cowell sitting there with his arms crossed. Joy said that it is like that for comedians in that she will focus on the one person not having fun. Whoopi said that she does that too, but will go out in the audience and ask the person if they want their money back. Sherri said that she admires Elisabeth because she says things that the panel and audience don’t always agree with. Joy added, “or the country.” Elisabeth said that maybe the perimeter of the country disagrees, but the middle of the country is with her. (This Illinois woman disagrees). She also added that her mom agrees with her.
They also talked about Dancing with the Stars and then discussed if there should be a law for paparazzi to stay a certain distance away from celebrities. Sherri admitted to running the credit reports of celebrities like Prince when she worked at her office job as a form of entertainment, but now realizes it was wrong.
Trisha Yearwood appeared on the show to promote her new cookbook Georgia Cooking in an Oklahoma Kitchen: Recipes from My Family to Yours. A wide spread of food was laid out on the table in front of them and Whoopi started eating the ribs about a minute into the segment. Sherri had a plate of deviled eggs in her lap and she and Joy also had some ribs. They basically were eating the entire segment, which was really funny. Trisha’s husband Garth Books wrote the forward of her book. Check out the video of the Trisha Yearwood segment.
Eddie Izzard was on to promote the television series The Riches. He said that the way for Whoopi to get over her fear of flying is to learn to fly. She said that she learned about all kinds of things like that and it didn’t help. He then suggested that she tell herself the plane is going to crash into a mountain and then just enjoy the flight. If it lands safely it would be a bonus. Although Eddie started out in comedy, he always wanted to be a dramatic actor.

It’s fine that people have varying opinions. We are lucky to live in a place where we can express them. It’s not that EH and I don’t agree; it’s that she’s not remotely interested in possibly seeing another point of view.
If her Mom agrees with her, she must be “right.”

“This Illinois woman disagrees”
And this Indiana woman disagrees as well.

The Yearwood interview was funny…but awkward. I kept thinking how inappropriate it was for them to start chomping down while trying to talk to her.
Don’t get me wrong, Sherri did provide comic relief (”Trisha, make Whoopi give me a rib”, lol). But I thought Trisha looked uncomfortable, like she did not know what to do. At times, the hosts did not seem to either.
Still, Trisha was good spirited about it.
The food must have been great. Even picky eater Whoopi ate some.

Anyone see this segment on TODAY this morning.

AT first it may seem that this is irrelevant to Watching the View, except that I think what he talks about is seen on WTV every day, particularly with one co-host (IMO - and I imagine there others who would select someone different from me for the same honor.)
Here’s a quote that summarizes much of the article.
“I don’t see it that way. I’m concerned that calling it a Culture War presumes a few things, like, if it’s a war there is an enemy. This kind of adversarial posture serves to further entrench us in our own positions. The sad fact is our country is polarized because we like it. It so much simpler to pretend the world is black and white. An “Us versus Them” attitude is just simpler than critical self-reflection, and allows us to blame the Other.”
This is the funniest line (although it’s funnier in context)
MORGAN: Oh, yeah, this one [bumper sticker] cracked me up, “The Agnostic Dyslexic Insomniac Who Lies Awake at Night Wondering if there really is a Dog.” That’s funny.

I thought the Trisha interview was funny and comfortable…like a bunch of girlfriends sitting around having fun. To me, having them eating the food and enjoying it so much will sell way more cookbooks than just seeing them talk about it…and that is the purpose of her being on the show…to promote her cookbook and get people to buy it.

I didn’t see the show. I like Trisha Yearwood, and would have liked to have seen it.
Thank you Lajet, for the link. I didn’t watch the Today show either. I found this article very interesting, and thought provoking.
It “seems” accurate of not only the View, but America today, in a few areas, and that is sad. Really.

Hey ShannonP, I agree with you about the show. It was so great to see everyone seemingly having a good time. Trish didn’t look uncomfortable at all to me. Actually, I think she was having a blast watching them enjoy the great meals from her cookbook. I’m even going to Barnes & Nobles today to pick up a copy. I’m having a barbecue next Sunday and I can hardly wait to try some of those tasty recipes for our guest.
