The View August 3rd Recap: Fall Preview Special Edition

Caroline Rhea and Melissa Claire Egan were guests hosts for this Special Edition of The View, which previewed “everything that people will be talking about this fall,” including politics, television, movies, and fashion. Elisabeth Hasselbeck was off today because she started her vacation early. According to the ABC website, The View will be on hiatus for the rest of August.

Barbara Walters got irritated when Caroline did not want to talk about what was on the card and wanted to ask Melissa about practicing kissing scenes on All My Children.

Joy Behar’s daughter is getting married this fall. Joy joked that she was being tacky though, wearing a white dress after Labor Day. (I don’t think Barbara got the joke). Caroline said that she does not want to get married. She was engaged for four years but they did not get married. She said she was chicken about it.

Anderson Cooper appeared on the show to talk about politics. Here are some of his thoughts:

  • It will be hard to go back to debates without user-submitted content after the YouTube/CNN debate.
  • It is possible that there could be a woman and an African-American on the same ticket. It could energize a lot of people.
  • John Edwards is doing well in Iowa and the election is so far away that we cannot predict who will be the winners.
  • Although John McCain has faded a bit, he should not be counted out.
  • No one really knows Fred Thompson except that he was on Law & Order, so maybe he should stay out of the race for awhile and no one will learn anything about him.
  • The big issue for Americans is security.
  • During the discussion with Anderson, Barbara got irritated at Joy when she said that except for Rudy Guiliani, all the other candidates are “losers.” Barbara noted that Mitt Romney is successful and that Joy has judged them even before they opened their mouths. Barbara said it was a problem that there were no Republicans on the panel, although that no one knows her or Anderson’s political affiliations.

Jess Cagle from People magazine appeared on the show to talk about the fall television season. He talked about the following new shows:

  • Pushing Daises: A man can bring people back from the dead with his touch.
  • Big Shots: Called Desperate Housewives for men.
  • Caveman: Based on the characters from the Geico commercial. It “has possibility.”
  • Viva Laughlin: Musical involving a casino.
  • Back To You: Kelsey Grammar and Patricia Heaton are co-anchors on a news show.
  • Chuck: Science fiction about a geeky guy who has a government computer downloaded to his brain and he becomes a super spy.
  • Bionic Woman: Remake of the television show. Melissa was too young to know what it was.
  • Jill Bernstein from Entertainment Weekly appeared on the show for a fall movie preview.

  • Enchanted: Half cartoon about a princess who gets transported to New York City. Stars Amy Adams from Junebug.
  • Bee Movie: Jerry Seinfeld voices a bee who goes on a quest into the world of humans. Seinfeld also wrote the film.
  • Across the Universe: A musical love story featuring Beatles songs.
  • Fred Claus: Vince Vaughn plays the brother of Santa Claus.

  • Nina Garcia from Elle Magazine appeared on the show to give a fall fashion preview. Some trends:

  • Colors will be bold and bright. The accessories should be dark, neutral colors.
  • Turtlenecks
  • Lady-like accessories like hats and gloves.
  • Elegance: Tailored outfits, along with the gloves and hats. Vera Wang now has a line for Kohl’s.
  • Preppy looks.

  • If you want specific details on the clothes shown, check out the ABC website.

    1. jess Says:

This show is crap now. Too politcally correct. Its almost silly to think the silly people in the world will actually get offended by the word “boobs”. Walters must go…even my mother isn’t that straight laced. On a side note, Anderson Cooper= hottie with white hair.
