The View December 14th Recap: Sean “Diddy” Combs, Chris Botti, and Sara Evans

by

sean-diddy-combs.jpgSara Evans returned to co-host today on The View. Whoopi Goldberg said that she would love to have a country song written about her and her dread locks. Sara tried to come up with a song, but it didn’t really work.

Sherri Shepherd said that she had a bad habit of eating fast food and she only stopped when she learned she had diabetes. Diddy asked her backstage what diet she was on and she called her it was the “You get your foot cut off if you don’t lose 20 pounds diet.” Sara agreed that people have to get scared in order to quit a bad habit. Joy said that she has a friend who gets sick when she overeats and she wished that she had that. Joy used to smoke but quit when she “got smart” and also because it made her voice sound like she had Jimmy Hoffa in the back of her throat.

Whoopi used to have an addiction where she would buy 20 books at a time and she never read any of them. She added that she is down to two cigarettes a day. She (again) talked about the commercial that encouraged her to quit smoking. Joy would love to get addicted to exercise. Sherri said that sex burns 500 calories and Joy said “Not the way I do it,” adding that she only burns about 100 calories at most.

Whoopi asked whether they would cheat if it was acceptable? Sherri said that if it morally acceptable, she probably would. She added that she cheated on all of her boyfriends in the past, but not on her husband. She said that people might cheat more if it was morally acceptable. Sara said that if you want to cheat, then don’t get married. She wouldn’t cheat because she wouldn’t want to be cheated on. It would hurt her feelings and make her feel bad about herself. Whoopi said that if people are honest at the beginning of a relationship about not willing to tolerate cheating, then they would not get married and then later be cheated on. She said that people are afraid to have that conversation because they don’t want to be alone. Sherri said that people were not surprised when her husband cheated on her. Sara said that you have a feeling in your gut that something is wrong, like if he flirts with a lot of women. Joy said that more married women are cheating these days. Sherri joked that it was “too much laundry.” Joy said that it is because more women are in the workforce, giving them more opportunities to cheat.

Would you freak out if your mom gave you a vibrator or other sex toy? Sara said that she would not want that, adding “Ew!” Sherri said that she doesn’t want to be talking about sex with her mother. Joy said that her daughter can buy her own vibrator. Whoopi got her daughter “the rabbit.” Sherri said that she doesn’t want to think about how her parents got her and is embarrassed just thinking about it. She said that she doesn’t even want her mother thinking about her having sex. Whoopi said something about hoping her mom doesn’t watch the show. Sherri added that she gets embarrassed when her father calls her and says that he heard something she said on the show. (I know that Sherri’s mother passed away, so I thought she was speaking sort of hypothetically about her mother, but then Whoopi said that comment about hoping she doens’t watch the show. Either Whoopi doesn’t know that Sherri’s mother died or thought she was speaking about her step-mother?)

Do you think that men make good mentors for women? Sara said that she had a male mentor, so she thinks they make good mentors. Whoopi said that they didn’t have mentors in her day. Sherri said that she didn’t have a mentor either, but wished that she had. Sherri thinks that Lindsay Lohan and other young celebrities need a female mentor. Whoopi then remembered that she did have mentors when she was on stage. She told her what to expect with fame, etc. Sherri said that Whoopi told her what to expect from fame and was right about a lot of what she said. Joy said that she got her best advice from Rush Limbaugh, who told her “Whatever you do Joy, be bold!”

Sean “Diddy” Combs appeared on the show. He said that he would not want his mother to give him a sex toy. He has two sons, 13 and 9, and twin girls who are 1. He joked that he put homing devices in the girls’ diapers and is very overprotective of them. He added that is he is so in love with them and loves just watching them.

Joy asked him all of the names that he has had in the past. He said that she can call him any of those names and they were just an evolution. She asked if he was a puffy kid and that is where the nickname “Puffy” came from. He said that “Puffy” was a “private nickname that I can’t really talk to you about.”

Sean wants children to dream about future goals, but also be realistic about how to achieve those goals. He has worked hard in life, starting back when he had a paper route. When times were bad, he would think that everyday is not perfect and you have to roll with the punches. He said that educating himself in every aspect of business that he wants to conquer and faith in God have helped him along with way. He added that you get out of life what you put into it.

Sean in partnered with Ciroc vodka to “preserve sexy,” encourage people to drink the best vodka, and to drink responsibility and not drink and drive.

He said that acting on Broadway on “Raisin in the Sun” was the hardest thing that he has ever done. It is a crazy schedule and it was the first time that he was fully engulfed in acting. The movie version of the show will appear on television this February. He said that people won’t recognize him.

Holiday gifts under $50:

* Ugg knock-off slippers from Old Navy
* Personalized wine
* Pamper yourself products
* Things with funny quotes on it
* Men’s wallet with digital photo player inside

* DVD with child’s photo put in the movie (they had a sample with Sherri in it, which cracked her up)
* Christmas Classics on dvd (Includes Frosty, Santa, and Rudolph)

Chris Botti, jazz trumpeter, appeared on the show and performed “Ave Maria.” He is up for a Grammy award. He said that holding his breath while he plays is like a tightrope balancing act. He quit school and toured with Frank Sinatra, which was his first break. His first big break, later in life, was when he toured with Sting. He knew he wanted to be a jazz musician after hearing only three notes of a Miles Davis song.

  1. Stacee Says:

A lot more lively show today.

It was sort of weird when they were discussing cheating and the ladies all seemed to be looking toward Sara. Then I think either Joy or Whoopi said “you’re divorced, right?”. Okay that seems pretty normal typing it, but it was just this vibe like they wanted to ask her something but didn’t. There was a few quiet, awkward pauses during that discussion…

Speaking of the cheating scenario, I totaly did not get Sherri’s answer. She said “if it was morally okay, she would”. Hmmm. If it was ‘morally ok’ it would not be called CHEATING, would it? Strange answer, I thought.

It was interesting during the mentor segment and how Sherri disclosed Whoopi mentored her about celebrity-ism. I was taken aback that Sherri did not realize her life became an open book and her divulging certain details of her life would open her up to intense scrutiny. I am not a celeb and even I know that! Besides, she would peruse the rags while employed as a legal secretary, wasn’t that a clue to what these stars go through?

Whoopi giving her daughter a vibrator ewwwed me out too. I can’t imaging giving my daughter one BUT if someone is comfortable in their relationship with their child and their child is receptive I say more power to them!

I really don’t like Sean Combs but I actually enjoyed his interview. It was interesting.

I was a little shocked that the ladies had never heard of the woman that sued her ex-husband’s mistress/wife and won. I thought everyone had heard of it. It’s old news (I can remember hearing about it years ago, and the lady was indeed recently on Oprah).

Sherri really looked like she lost weight today and Whoopi really needs her own show where her opinion can always be showcased.

  2. Winnie McCarthy Says:

I know what you mean about the vibe during the cheating, like they expected Sara to say something.

  3. rainlillie Says:

OMG! I have a great relationship with my mother. We really are best friends now that I’m an adult. She’s one of the funniest people I know. Yet I can’t imagine her giving me a sex toy. That would be extremely weird.

“If it was ‘morally ok’ it would not be called CHEATING, would it?”

LOL! So true. I just don’t understand why people just won’t end the relationship they’re end , if they would like to see someone else. I had a friend who tried to use me for her cover, while she cheated on her boyfriend.

I told her I wasn’t going to lie to him. After realizing I wasn’t going to play apart in her deceit, she stopped telling him she was with me and used another friend.

I just don’t get it, just leave if you have to sneak around. Those type of relationships never last, because the trust is already broken.
I agree about Sean Combs, he’s not one of my favorite celebrities either. I do believe he’s an excellent businessman.

  4. Erika Says:

I agree that the hosts seemed to wait for Sara to elaborate about her divorce; and I wanted her to too!(ha) Did her husband really cheat with the nanny?- or, was she wrong about that? I remember both parties
    publicly denying having an affair.
Also, does anyone know what “Puff Daddy/Puffy” really means? I think it refers to smoking marijuana, but the ladies acted like maybe it was a sexual reference.

  5. rainlillie Says:

Sara’s hubby was supposed to be an upstanding conservative Christian guy who preached “family values.” That’s why it was a real shocker for people to read her allegations against him.

  6. rainlillie Says:

    http://www.nationalledger.com/cgi-bin/artman/exec/view.cgi?archive=5&num=9072
Here’s more on the nasty divorce.

  7. Viva Says:

I missed today’s show but just reading Joy’s comment “Not the way I do it!” cracked me up.
I really hoped BW would be there for the Sean Combs interview. For some reason when I imagined her interviewing him I saw disaster. Oh well, the way she’s going lately there will be plenty of other celebrity interviews where she will behavely oddly or say something completely inappropriate.

  8. Ken Says:

Sherri’s blouse and hair looked really good. I loved her style today. She looked really hot! I also think Sara Evans is a looker also! :P She is a very pretty woman. :) I really like her personality also.

I agree with the comments made about Sean Combs not being one of my favorite celebs - (Because he is had controversy about owing several people that worked for him money and the like) but the interview was pretty nice. It was particularly inspirational to me being a younger male embarking on entrepreneurial ventures. He is going through an ugly separation also with his wife that just left him. I wish him well with that.

I can’t believe how witty and funny Joy is. She is always coming up with those ingenious one-liners. Man she’s good! Like when they were talking about the vibrator the rabbit and she said “Happy Easter.” I thought it was so hilarious and on point.

Whoopi seems more perky, rather refreshing and awake these days IMO. I’m glad she’s down to two a day cigarettes. She’s on her way! Congrats to her. :)

  9. Ken Says:

Oh yeah I forgot to mention, we’re less than a month away until Elisabeth Hasselbeck comes back. I know you guys are thrilled of her return. hehe LOL! ;)

  10. Doug Robertson Says:

Puffy Diddy Daddy pulled off a good interview, although I’m not a fan either. I think probably because I still think of him as the rapper guy from years ago, but he has certainly matured and seems to have dropped that cocky, arrogant act. Erika - I hadn’t thought in terms of the puff/puffy thing being about weed, but now that I think about it, you’re probably right. My mind immediately jumped in the gutter as did the ladies’. But that’s just me.

Sorry, I love jazz and everything, but I was bored with that hornblower guy. I switched channels to Rock Fest on VH1 Classic.

  11. rainlillie Says:

    Ken,
    You had me with,

“I can’t believe how witty and funny Joy is. She is always coming up with those ingenious one-liners. Man she’s good! Like when they were talking about the vibrator the rabbit and she said “Happy Easter.”

And then you had to mention EH..Thanks a lot! LOL!

  12. rainlillie Says:

    “Puffy Diddy Daddy ”

    LOL!

  13. Stacee Says:

I knew Puffy married Misa Hylton but I’ve never heard that he married Kim Porter. I know they had a recent breakup (supposedly because he still liked to play the field) but I was not aware that they were actually married.

Doug, I believe he’s still cocky and arrogant. He pulled off a good interview but I’m not convininced that he’s shed the fact that he’s full of himself. Don’t get me wrong, he’s successful and has certainly earned his way but I just don’t care for the personality that I’ve seen him display. Too too cock. It’s a turnoff.

  14. Stacee Says:

    Ummm, that should have read:
    Too, too COCKY.

Oh boy, what a time for a typo!

  15. Winnie Says:

Stacee: I knew what you meant. :)

  16. rainlillie Says:

    Stacee,
This IS a “family” website…LOL@ your typo :)

  17. Stacee Says:

LMBO!!! Guys I am so embarrassed. We need a blushing emoticon! :) ;) :)

  18. Winnie Says:

It reminds me of the time in law school when someone answered a question and meant to say “against penal interest” and he said “against penile interest.”

I also had a friend in college who turned in a term paper with the word “pubic” when she meant to say “public.”

  19. May Says:

I could be wrong but I thought Whoopie said that she was down to 4 cigs per day, not 2. Anyway she’s well on her way to quitting and I’m glad for her. The chatter this a.m. was free flowing between all the women as it is when the Bawa is absent. I love the faces Whoopie makes such as the one where she is acting like she’s an old woman and toothless. She is hilarious!

  20. Sasha Says:

Today’s show wasn’t bad, although I still have yet to see a show that I actually, thoroughly enjoyed, since Rosie left. (Sigh…)
Anyway, I thought the cheating-on-your-spouse thing was weird…Sherri saying that she would cheat if it was socially accepted?! For someone who herself has BEEN CHEATED ON, you’d think she would feel differently. Just odd.

And I agree with Rainlillie: I have a GREAT relationship with my mom, she’s my best friend, but getting a vibrator from her would be super weird :)

  21. Sandy Says:

    I didn’t see the show.
Enjoyed the recap and everyones comments.

I can’t imagine my mother even “thinking” of giving me a vibrator. I have a 32 year old daughter, and I know she would NOT want me to think of such a thing either.
But like someone else said above, if that works for some Mons & daughters, then great.

  22. Doug Robertson Says:

Stacee - I had no problem with the typo. It kind of made me a bit tingly in my naughty parts, but I digress. Yeah, I think you’re right, he probably is still cocky, and that’s probably why I still don’t particular care for the guy. I do admire his accomplishments, he’s obviously a hard worker and a good business man, and I’d bet he really is a good daddy (puffy or not), so I have to give him props for the positives.

  23. Pumpkin Says:

To add to typo funnies. I’m a CPA and one time I was reviewing a potential employee’s resume. For objective he put “To obtain a position as a certified pubic accountant”. Ahhhh, what a difference an “l” makes. He didn’t get the job, but he did make us laugh. (And yes I did call him and let him know about his typo.)

  24. Doug Robertson Says:

Typos are waaay off-topic, and not hot I know, but I ran across this and thought it was funny:

    http://tootiredtodeal.blogspot.com/2007/05/unfortunate-typos.html

  25. Ann Says:

I can’t stand that Puffy or as I like to call him “Piffy”. I loathe his vulgar perfume & aftershave advertisements. I also dislike his chin.

  26. rainlillie Says:

Here you go Stacee, I hope this works. If it does it’s a blushing smiley.

  27. rainlillie Says:

Nope didn’t work. I’ll try again.

    :”>

  28. rainlillie Says:

  29. rainlillie Says:

Okay I give up, where Aileen when you need her?

  30. rainlillie Says:

    “I also dislike his chin.”

  31. rainlillie Says:

OOOPS! I meant to tell Ann LOL about the chin. What’s wrong with his chin?

  32. Lisa Says:

    Puffy really likes himself.

  33. Ann Says:

His chin is small and weird - kind of a half chin. You couldn’t notice yesterday because he has grown a goatee. It’s no big deal, just that he is so arrogant, always talking himself up, saying that he should be the next James Bond (yes, he has said this) and I just think NO WAY, not with that chin!

  34. rainlillie Says:

He has a very huge ego. I couldn’t see him as James Bond either.

  35. Real Says:

Sean Combs has never been married.

  36. msroncon Says:

Puffy refers to when he was a child and would hold his breath when he pouted. His mother called him “Puffy”. Him acting like there is more to it was specially for the View to wonder about.
