The View December 21st Recap: Hilary Swank and The Lion King
Today on The View, Barbara wore a bright red Christmas sweatshirt that said “Cheer” and big green ornament like earrings. She had a sweater that had Santa on it and the word “Joy,” which she gave to Joy Behar as a gift, even though it was her favorite. Joy said that she doesn’t know where it is.
Barbara said that she is going to visit some friends for vacation and then will back for New Year’s, which she hates. When she was younger she had a New Year’s Eve date and she kissed him at midnight and he said that she kissed too hard. Joy and Steve are going to France for vacation. Whoopi doesn’t know what she will doing, but should probably rest. She will probably spend time with her better half in New York and Vermont. Barbara said that sounds nice and Joy said, “Not as nice as mine.” Whoopi said that if she wets her bed, then it is her bed, not a hotel’s bed. Sherri does not have plans for New Year’s Eve and might do stand-up at a comedy club. She is used to being with her ex Jeffrey. They were together 10-11 years. Whoopi said that she used to have chronic pain and when it left, she only missed if for five minutes and then she was happy.
Barbara was sad before because she had only two friends on her MySpace page, the two owners of the company. Someone on her radio show told her it was because she is too old. Now she has approximately 12,000 friends. Whoopi told her not to post any pictures of herself without clothes on.
Whoopi said that people don’t seem to realize the consequences of putting inappropriate pictures on the internet. Whoopi said that her “girls” have been on the floor for so long that she doesn’t think she ever took nude pictures. Sherri said that Kim Kardashian made a sex tape and it was huge and now she has a reality show. Whoopi said, “What, he was huge?” (or something to that effect).
The next topic was whether it was harder to date after a divorce. Sherri said that she needs time to heal, learn about herself and why she let herself get treated that way. Joy said that she can heal in bed. Barbara said bedding is not the same as dating. Joy said that you can date and heal at the same time.
They then talked about threatening a child that if they are naughty Santa won’t give them presents. Joy said that it is not like a three year old is robbing a bank; what is he doing that is so bad. She added that they shouldn’t threaten a kid. I am not sure what exactly Joy said, but then there was then an awkward exchange where both Whoopi and Barbara both assured all those listening that they all believe in Santa.
Should a college kid get presents if he does badly in school? Barbara says yes. Sherri had a girlfriend whose son flunked and didn’t get the presents that he wanted. Whoopi said that you might have to take into account a learning disability, adding that she is dyslexic. Joy said that she cannot ever remember having to punish her daughter for anything. Whoopi said that she walks on water.
Barbara’s daughter has three dogs and a ferret. Barbara is certain that she got the ferret because she doesn’t want Barbara to visit her. Her daughter came to visit her with a small dog, telling her that she thought she would like to meet her third grandchild. The dog was a problem and her dog didn’t like it. The funniest part of the segment was the complete and utter disinterest the other three seemed to have in the topic. It was funny. Joy and Whoopi were laughing, still hung up on the description of a dog, which was a mix of Greyhound and Chihuahua. Whoopi said that when her daughter visits with her three children, she has them stay at a hotel. The Joy asked what the ferret’s name is. Barbara said that she doesn’t like ferrets and is happy to call the dogs her grandchildren, but not the ferret. Joy said that Barbara will get nasty letters on her MySpace page from ferret lovers if she doesn’t say that she loves that ferret.
Hilary Swank appeared on the show to promote her new movie P.S. I Love You. She wore a red dress and told Barbara that she liked her sweater. Hillary said that new movie is a feel good movie, despite it being about a widow. She said that it makes you want to hold your family close to you and is a funny movie.
Hilary said that she is “quite a goofball” and likes to do comedies. Hilary said that her mom is glad that her character lives to see the credits of a film. Her mom is doing well. Barbara brought up how her mother gave up a lot for her and they once lived in their car. Hilary said that her mom is her biggest supporter and propelled her to success.
Kathy Bates plays her mother in the film and she said that it was great because she is perfect in every way and is “awesome.”
Hilary said that she never feels completely secure, because you never know what is going to happen tomorrow. She loves what she does and she can’t imagine not having it in her life. She gets a lot of scripts, but there is not a lot of great stuff out there. If she feels a script in her bones, then she knows that she wants to do it.
Marc Summers from Unwrapped appeared on the show to talk about the World’s Most Expensive Meals:
$1000 bagel with 23 k gold leaf and white truffles in the cream cheese
$1000 frittata with lobster and caviar
$40 coffee made from coffee beans defecated by an animal
$20/bottle Malaho water which travels from the North Atlantic to Hawaii
$5000 black truffle, foie gras, kobe beef hamburger (Whoopi came out from the back to try it. Joy said that she doesn’t approve of foie gras because it hurts the animal when it is force fed)
$6000/bottle or $1000 shot skotch (Sherri drank it and said “I feel hot like a ho.”)
The Broadway cast of The Lion King performed to celebrate its 10th anniversary.
At the end of the show, Barbara thanked everyone for a great year, especially Bill Geddie. In the end credits, it had all of the hosts faces in dancing elf bodies. Anyone else find that funny, considering how much Rosie O’Donnell promoted that elf-making site on her blog? Coincidence?

This was the last new View episode of 2007. I will keep posting on and off through the hiatus, so be sure to check back for updates. Happy Holidays everyone and thanks for making Watching the View a success!

I am tired of Joy saying how great this year is, like the previous year wasn’t? Or because Bits is on maternity leave? Or is she being forced to say this?
When I watched the Lion King it brought pleasant memories of the Rosie days and all she did to connect the audience to Broadway shows…I think The View audience owes her big time for the daily gifts and the magic of live performances!
I am beginning to think Babs will die with her boots on as long as ABC lets her keep the show. When they booted her from 20/20 I thought maybe retirement would be around the corner, I don’t see it ever happening now.
So let peace reign for the next two weeks… as a winter storm will blow in on the 7th. God bless one and all and bundle up!

“In the end credits, it had all of the hosts faces in dancing elf bodies. Anyone else find that funny, considering how much Rosie O’Donnell promoted that elf-making site on her blog? Coincidence?”
Of course, can’t say for sure, but that Elf thing is EVERYWHERE! I’ve gotten links from everyone, and it has nothing to do with Rosie…

Did anybody else catch what Joy said about the “last NINE years were good ones”? And that this year is the best of all? I believe this is the show’s 11th year, isn’t it? Maybe she was making a jab at the Rosie year? Hope not for I feel that it was the good year, though I haven’t been watching the whole 11 years. Oh I’m starting to confuse myself with all this rambling.
December 21st, 2007 at 1:20 pm
May,
I didn’t catch that, but they didn’t even send out a greeting to EH. Bw didn’t even mention her, when she was talking about how wonderful things have been in “View land.”
“BW talking about her daughter’s ferret…..shoot me NOW…”
LOL!
December 21st, 2007 at 2:43 pm
Leave Barbara Alone. She should be respected. After all, she started the show. I love her and I’ll be so happy when Elisabeth is back. I’m glad Rosie is no longer on the show. She was just so rude and such a loud-mouth.
December 21st, 2007 at 2:50 pm
May wrote —”And that this year is the best of all? I believe this is the show’s 11th year, isn’t it? Maybe she was making a jab at the Rosie year?”
I think that’s exactly what Joy was doing. Some of us would like to forget those tumultuous months when Rosie dominated the show. She made poor Elisabeth’s life miserable. I think she enjoyed doing that too. I wanted to have a party when Rosie announced her departure.
December 21st, 2007 at 2:59 pm
“Leave Barbara Alone. She should be respected.”
One earns respect and can lose it when they start trashing others. Babs lost my respect when she started mistreating her employees. As for Bits… we know she has an audience, that is why she is still on the show:)
Rosie is alive and well on this thread and Babs was made richer for the time Rosie was hosting. A win/win for both sides.;)
December 21st, 2007 at 3:07 pm
I’m surprised I even started watching again after Rosie left- I said I wouldn’t. Now I’m enjoying EH’s absence. At first, I thought Sherri was ignorant; but now, she and Joy are the only reason I watch. The novelty of Whoopi has waned for me.
I totally disagree with louise- Rosie was the one deeply hurt by EH and her live betrayal. I always thought EH was insidiously passive-aggressive.
December 21st, 2007 at 3:10 pm
Rosie was a bully who retracted when somebody was going toe to toe with her.
December 21st, 2007 at 3:19 pm
I had quit watching the View when she was on. She was defeated by Elisabeth and that surprised her that someone could actually stand up to her. She thought she was always right and let me tell you she wasn’t.
Yes, I am a proud republican.I have 2 sons, William and Richard in Iraq and I support them and our president 110%.
December 21st, 2007 at 3:22 pm
I think Rosie was passionate about her beliefs, but never malicious. I never considered her a bully.
December 21st, 2007 at 3:30 pm
On a lighter note I thought the dancing elf bodies were kinda cute. LOL!
December 21st, 2007 at 3:33 pm
I wonder if Sherri is having fun this year, I cant imagine her enjoying being treated that way by Whoopi.
And Whoopi doesnt look like shes having fun either. I wonder how long both of them will be on the show.
December 21st, 2007 at 3:38 pm
Well, I hope Sherri stays. I love her! Whoopi is just so…..ummmm…….what’s the word I’m looking for….so….depressing……Is that a good word? That’s the only word that comes to mind. I knew things were going to be bad after she did the little Halloween skit. Does anyone remember how much she complained about everything from the costume, her hair…OMG! I remember thinking, this isn’t good. She’s already complaining and she’s only been on the show for a few weeks. LOL!
December 21st, 2007 at 3:40 pm
Louise in Alabama,
I want to thank your sons for their bravery and hope they come home healthy and safe. I feel sad that you are so negative on Rosie who has spoken for our soldiers and has invested in a facility to help them get back on their feet. Fortunately many military families are thinking the opposite that you are and are writing her continually thanking her for her support.
That being said, Rosie was the brave one on the show as she stepped up and said what many were thinking and polls show that today. EH may flap her gums all she wants, she is just another blonde puppet joining the Coulter, Ingrahm and Malik crowd. I look forward to the day she joins the Faux News band and then she will vanish from my view.
December 21st, 2007 at 3:42 pm
I like Whoopi better than Rosie. Whoopi is more intelligent and she listens.
December 21st, 2007 at 3:50 pm
I just think she was disrespectful of other people’s views. She said she expected Elisabeth to defend her, yet she constantly said things like “spew your Republican crap” to her. If she didn’t agree then she didn’t agree. She could have actually tried to give some sort of intelligent argument rather than resorting to the “Your momma!” approach when she was frustrated. Rosie never even bothered to listen to other people’s views and would NEVER admit when she is wrong. She could have easily clarified and said, I do not think our troops are terrorists and I apologize if people took my comments that way. Instead, she blamed it all on Elisabeth.
December 21st, 2007 at 3:53 pm
Dee, bless your heart for saying those kind things about my boys. Thank you-They are good sons and never gave me an ounce of trouble.
December 21st, 2007 at 3:57 pm
“Dee, bless your heart”
Wasn’t that phrase mentioned on the show once? I think it was Faith Hill talking about how southern women would say something negative to you then afterwards say, bless your heart. LOL!
December 21st, 2007 at 4:16 pm
It’s sad what “Hot Topics” has become. The View has become just Barbara’s vain attempt at clinging to fame. Time has no mercy on anyone, especially those who don’t know when the deal is done.
December 21st, 2007 at 4:30 pm
Griping about Rosie’s departure of “The View” is kind of getting stale and crusty already. Reality must kick in and she’s like off the show and isn’t coming back. Write her and tell her to come back to TV fast with a show of her own and visit her daily blog! I’d like to see Rosie back on TV but she is taking her precious time because she doesn’t have to work. Excuse me, but girlfriend has got it like that. LOL
I was upset when Star Jones left “The View”, in the manner that she left too. But I forgave Babs, ABC or whomever was responsible for her leaving the show.
I’m happy that she was given another chance at television and is doing quite well on Court TV a la TruTV. I watch her show a lot.
December 21st, 2007 at 4:41 pm
Well Folks,
I read through the thread. All I can say is take Peaches advice. As the great Rosie would say same, same, same!
December 21st, 2007 at 4:48 pm
Same here Rain, some peeps who describe Rosie negatively, sounds like they are describing themselves… Im just saying…
December 21st, 2007 at 4:53 pm
What IS Peaches advice?
December 21st, 2007 at 4:58 pm
Aileen, who MIGHT be describing themselves? I wanna know. You don’t have to use roundabout talk.

Ken, I agree with you. I like Star’s show too. It had to grow on me though. I’m happy she’s gone on with her life and is doing quite well for herself. You’re absolutely right about Rosie being able to return to work when she’s ready. It’s not like she’s standing in line at a soup kitchen. I’m sure she’ll be successful in her future endeavors. Shes’s definitely a survivor.
December 21st, 2007 at 5:26 pm
GOOD LORD! THEY LET SHERRI HAVE AT THE FOOD TABLE AGAIN!!!! It’s like watching animals feeding at the troff! And what’s even worse: Sherri Shepherd “One of The Break-Out Stars of The Year”? What an insult to women of color. Entertainment Weekly has joined BabWa and Bill Geddie and all of ABC brass in perpetuating racist racial stereotypes and negative myths about us. (She must’ve been Eddie Murphy’s model for that shameful character, the mean, junk food-chugging queen, in that ridiculous movie of his) It’s their in-your-face retaliation for the Star Jones disaster. Sherri Shepherd demonstrates sub-moronic idiocy and waves her lack of education like a flag on national television five days a week and they are rewarding her for it. What does this says to young girls? That they too can fail in school and then grow up to milk black female ghetto stupidity to the max and laugh all the way to the bank. Shame on all of them.
December 21st, 2007 at 5:29 pm
What’s Peaches advice?
December 21st, 2007 at 5:52 pm
I have to disagree with you Williscript. I will refer back to an older reply I’d posted earlier during the week because this will apply to your comment:
She(Sherri) is maybe a bit naive and a little ignorant about certain things, but to question her beliefs or character based on her views is totally preposterous. So far, I’ve found Sherri to be a very warm-hearted and geniune individual. She’s also a very candid person with a what-you-see-is-what-you-get persona. That’s what Bill and Barbara wanted on the show, isn’t it? She’s real! Granted she has a lot to learn about life in general (managing money, parenting, love, etc) but hey don’t we all? The great thing about her is, she’s so open about very personal things in her life and she always seems to welcome any advice given by others to improve herself. I’d rather have a keeping-it-real Sherri Sheppard over a phony EH any day!
Sherri is a comedian. Sometimes she does crazy things just for laughs. I’m a woman of color (bi-racial) and I’m not insulted in any way by anything Sherri has done or said. Just because someone of one race is doing something some may think is unacceptable doesn’t mean ALL people of that race are like that. HELLO! Does Paris Hilton, Jenna Jameson, Britney etc. represent all White women? How about this, all illegal immigrants represent Latinos/Hispanic? The answer is: NO! We’re all individuals and we should be judge by: (great words of MLK) the content of our character and not the color of our skin!
December 21st, 2007 at 5:59 pm
Aileen,
You’re good…Real good!
December 21st, 2007 at 6:04 pm
Willis, I didn’t get that from Sherry, they usually put her on the demonstration segments due to her quick wit. She may not have a sophisticated taste, but I didn’t perceive any exploitation there. Not from my point of view. I do get that she hams things up for laughs. I think she is being honest with her admission of lack of exposure to the finer things in life until she became successful in her craft. Sherry’s success in her field should be commended in itself. To me she is a real person just like Rosie who doesn’t pretend they are somebody who they are not. That’s her likeability factor. Maybe the view should hire more sophisticated hosts but maybe they wont be targeting their audience.? I am not sure.
December 21st, 2007 at 6:14 pm
Ditto to both of Tina’s posts! Well put.
I am a man of color (first generational multiracial: African/Indo-European roots).
I haven’t been offended by Sherri “food at the table” jokes either. It is just humor.
December 21st, 2007 at 6:23 pm
I can see both side of the Sherri issue. Will is speaking as a woman of color. We all know that large women and minority women haven’t been portrayed favorably in film and television. I also understand that Sherri is trying to be funny.
December 21st, 2007 at 6:26 pm
As a black woman i never thought about sherri behavour as it relect on my race but it is intersting that willi cared enough to point it out it might not look good to some
December 21st, 2007 at 8:48 pm
Merry Christmas, Winnie.
Yes, I am still following this blog even tho’ I can’t watch The View any more. I read the comments and find myself realizing I am right to not watch. I watched from the very beginning of the hsow…taping it while I was still working, and watching it in the evening. My favorite time period was the Meredith, Star, Joy, Lisa, Barbara era, when discussion were usually literate and often amusing. I watched when Rosie was on because I am a Rosie fan. I have found EH annoying from the first time she was on. When the split screen thing happened and the obnoxious EH was kept on the show as Rosie left, I had to quit watching. I miss Joy, so I tried to watch after EH left for her maternity leave. Sherri annoys me almost as much as EH. Whoopi looks uncomfortable and out of her element.
I miss watching Joy but the show is a mess.
I wish all your commenters a Happy Holiday season. And I will continue to read…and enjoy.
December 21st, 2007 at 9:22 pm
RE: Bab-Wa’s MySpace Page: Do you think it would help if she received a significant number of messages demanding that she STAY OFF THE SHOW? I’m willing to post ’til my fingers drop off if that would help.
December 21st, 2007 at 10:15 pm
lmaoooooo willis!!! I will get on that campaign!! oh lord.. that would mean I would have to be her friend first..
December 21st, 2007 at 11:28 pm
Thank you williscript for your brilliant suggestion. I will join myspace just to ask Babs to please retire with some dignity. I personally cannot take the tone of her voice, the sing song manner in which she speaks when trying to be cute, or expressing some annoying tedious story with a high pitched monotone voice that grates every nerve in my being. For the love of God I wish she’d shut up, and go on vacation — permanently!
That would make for a Happy New year on the view. lol
December 22nd, 2007 at 3:07 am
omg Jolly you are killing me!!
December 22nd, 2007 at 1:04 pm
Jolly, You took the words right out of my mouth..which is pretty crowded now because of the many chocolate covered cherries in there. I keep buying them for presents and eating them ..then repeating. T’would be nice if Bawa and EH would get on Santa’s sleigh and just keep on going. Oh I should be nice..tis the season.
December 22nd, 2007 at 3:12 pm
I didn’t get to see the show yesterday,
and i appreciate the recap. Sounds like it was kind of dull though.
I found the comments more interesting I think.
louiseinalabama,
Best wishes to your brave and HONORABLE sons. I hope they come home soon safe and sound. May God watch over them. I know you worry daily about them, and my best wishes go to you and them.
I don’t agree with Rosie politically, but I admire her passion for her beliefs. I think she is a very compassionate person who does care about our troops, and has given a LOT to and for them, and my goodness to children, and many other charities. I think she’s a good comedian, and a loving mother. So while i don’t agree with her politically, I find that there are things I really like about her.
The view was certainly different during the year that Rosie was there, and she certainly brought many new viewers, and probably more revenue as well.
I don’t necessarily think that the View was the right venue for Rosie, more because of her passion for her beliefs, and her insistence that her View was the right or only view. She would be great on her own show. I don’t agree with her, but I think that there are many who do, and she is a voice for them. And that’s GREAT.
Just as I believe that E.H. is a voice for many who share her views,.. and I share some of them. Although many think she is just a voice for Fox news and others,I personally don’t see or believe that.
Anyway it is possible to like them both, I know because I do. I try not to judge someone because of their political views.
I like them BOTH. .
As for Sherri, I think everyone here knows that I really like and support her. I like Whoopi, …and I think some of what we see on the view is for T.V.
I respect B.W. and I honestly believe that some of things we see happening now are due to her aging,..and for that reads on i don’t feel comfortable putting her down.
December 22nd, 2007 at 3:37 pm
We’re all individuals and we should be judge by: (great words of MLK) the content of our character and not the color of our skin!
Thank you Tina..GREAT words of wisdom from you and Martin L. King.
December 22nd, 2007 at 3:53 pm
Your words have touched me Tina. Even though I have to admit, sometimes I’ve prejudged people by what I’ve seen on TV and heard from others without really getting to know them. Willi was right also about that in certain aspects I guess because I’ve had those same thoughts about Sherri. Willi wrote “Sherri Shepherd demonstrates sub-moronic idiocy and waves her lack of education like a flag on national television five days a week and they are rewarding her for it” I guess I’ve been kinda guilty for thinking that most black women are like Whoopi and Sherri. Where I live, there are hardly any other ethnic groups. This topic was very enlightning. Thanks
December 22nd, 2007 at 3:59 pm
Hey Sandy, I thought I was the only one that liked both Elisabeth and Rosie! (high five)
December 22nd, 2007 at 4:58 pm
“because of her passion for her beliefs, and her insistence that her View was the right or only view. She would be great on her own show.”
That also applies to EH. Although I doubt she could engage an audience the way that Rosie did.
December 22nd, 2007 at 5:33 pm
“I try not to judge someone because of their political views.”
It’s very hard for me not to judge someone who thinks torture is okay. I can’t fathom how someone can claim to be a “Christian” As EH has done, and still be in favor of such a vile act against their fellow human beings.
December 22nd, 2007 at 7:49 pm
“Granted she has a lot to learn about life in general (managing money, parenting, love, etc) but hey don’t we all? ”
Sorry, at 40 years old one should have a good grasp of things at this point. So not ‘all’ of us need to still learn those things still about life in general.
Sherri is likable enough and is on occasion funny. However, I don’t give her a free pass for all the ignorant comments she’s made because she can tell a couple of good jokes.
The show Friday was okay. I thought Whoopi not knowing Sherri’s husband’s name was a little odd. They claim to be such buddies off camera and loving one another and laughing together. You’d think with all of Whoopi’s guidance Sherri would have mentioned Jeff once or twice for Whoopi to inject her sage old advice. Methinks they are not as close as they claim….
Hot Topics was not all that hot. The discussion of gift giving to a child that does naughty was interesting I guess. I did not really understand the hosts or what they really felt. It seems like they talk circles around one another without sometimes saying anything. And Sherri’s girlfriend that still has the Nintendo or whatever in the garage still? Strange.
The Hilary Swank interview was good. She looks quite skinny though. Has she recently lost a lot of weight?
The food segment was interesting. I thought Sherri and the food part was a little over the top. It’s good to sample and all but she looked a little too grabby.
I enjoyed the Lion King performance. That was pretty good.
I don’t quite believe Barb’s assertion of how great the group is. I feel if that were really true, she would not have to say it so much. It would show. Plus, I recall her saying the same when Rosie was there. Then hearing the things she said and her behavior behind her back. Nope, don’t believe Barb.
December 22nd, 2007 at 10:15 pm
I had given up on The View before Rosie joined, because of the EH right wing hypocrisy, then I LOVED the show when Rosie was on. I really can not put up with the Bush-loving hypocrits who support their sex pervert, torture promoting candidates!
December 22nd, 2007 at 11:16 pm
“Sorry, at 40 years old one should have a good grasp of things at this point. So not ‘all’ of us need to still learn those things still about life in general.”
Going through a divorce, taking a new job in a new place and parenting a special needs child could be a challenge for anyone regardless of their age. Hopefully she’s learning from her mistakes through trial and error. Facing the obstacles and being in a different environment other than the comedic scene will help her grow. You’re never too old to learn.
December 22nd, 2007 at 11:19 pm
Rainlille,
I can’t disagree with your 2 points, 48 & 49.
I haven’t watched every show,..and didn’t when Rosie was on either. I haven’t heard what all E.H. has said about torture. So I really can’t comment on that.
I like you, do not understand how anyone can support torture, to anyone.
December 23rd, 2007 at 6:25 am

Stacee,
Your post is music to my ears! I agree completely. Sandy, yes, EH agrees with torture, as long as it provides good information. That’s my problem with her and folks like her. She doesn’t care how many rules are broken as long as she feels like she and her precious family are being “protected”. I remember she also said she didn’t care if the government listened in on her phone calls…WHAT THE HELL! This is America , not some third world country. We still have rights!
This is Winnie’s recap of the show, where EH is IN favor of torture.
“Elisabeth and Rosie got into another tiff during the discussion of the movie. Rosie told Elisabeth that she could ask Rory a question, but she couldn’t just “blather on” about whatever she wanted. Elisabeth tried to argue that torture should be allowed when when there is a high-ranking terrorist who has a lot of information that can prevent future terrorist acts. Rory Kennedy said that if the government is allowed to torture “a little bit,” then it will spread like wildfire.”
http://www.watchingtheview.com/march-20th-recap-ghosts-of-abu-ghraib-and-maude/
December 23rd, 2007 at 12:57 pm
Rory also said that torture does not work. Bottom line, it doesnt work and its certainly not a case where unless you torture someone, thousands of people will die. Rory said thats not realistic and real life is not like the show ‘24′. What was so disgusting to me was EH admitting that there were CHILDREN in AG prison and yet still trying to justify the whole damn thing. People in that prison were tortured to death and a VERY high percentage (I believe 80%) were found innocent of any crimes. Its very scary that someone can watch a documentary like that and come out of it thinking ‘well tortures not that bad’! And remember all of this happened in a country that did not attack the US in any way.

I wonder if the children were tortured too? I’m just shocked that we’re even having this discussion in the United States..It’s just unbelievable! To me it shows what type of character EH has.

I’m wondering why do some of you loathe Elisabeth so much? It was very obvious Rosie disliked Elisabeth due to her christian values and conservative views. She would spew her venom like she was speaking the gospel! She was always so quick to jump on the “HOMOPHOBE” bandwagon whenever it was convenient to prove a point. Remember the Kelly Ripa/Clay Aiken incident? She would be so quick to say whatever she wanted but had a hissy fit when anyone disagreed. I respect and admire Elisabeth for continuing her support of our President and our troops. Please remember that the enemy is not George Bush it’s the muslim terrorists that would love for every single one of us to be dead right now. Elisabeth never once said Iraq is our enemy, she was saying our enemies are IN Iraq. The majority of the violence and torture in Iraq is caused by the different religious groups within the country. If you want to blame 850,000 deaths on the American troops, that’s ignorant. Iraqi civilians were dying before we got there and they will continue to die after we leave. I think torture in any way shape or form is wrong
BY Americans or TO Americans-remember they’ve tortured soldiers and innocent civiilans as well. I definitely pray to God that we are successful in our fight and respect and praise all the soldiers from the United States and the other nations who have the foresight and guts to stay over there with us. War is never pretty.

I did see that particular show. However I have not seen the documentary by Rory.
As I recall E.H. did also say that some of the stuff that happened there she thought was “horrific”.
And although I haven’t seen the documentary, I certainly know what went on at AG. I think what happened there was horrific as well.
I also don’t believe that torture works to get reliable information. That to me is just common sense. Even if it did, I can not consciously say I would want it to be used, ever.
Do I dislike E.H. because we may not “totally” agree on this,..No, she has many things I do agree with and like about her…just as Rosie does.
I definitely pray to God that we are successful in our fight and respect and praise all the soldiers from the United States and the other nations who have the foresight and guts to stay over there with us. War is never pretty.
I agree, and I pray as well.
War is Hell, I HATE it. But I support out troops, and our country in this

It seems that words such as ‘rest’, ’sleep’, and ‘bed’ are always on Whoopi’s plans. We ALL need our rest Whoop, believe me!!!

I’m having a very difficult time understanding how anyone can support someone who thinks torture is okay. It’s not like EH is saying Pepsi is better than Coke. She’s saying that she doesn’t have a problem with people who haven’t been convicted of anything being tortured. It’s so bizarre to say, “just because I don’t agree with her on this issue, I still like her.’
It’s just amazing to me.. really amazing.
louisenalabama, all I can say is transparent and Same , same , same.

I dislike EH because she is ignorant. She used the example of same sex marriage as a lead in to humans marrying toasters in the future. This is intolerance of a segment of the human race that is biologically wired for this condition. I shudder to think if her precious children are born this way, what will she do shun them?
Rosie went out of her way when she joined the show to befriend EH. She invited her to Broadway shows, to her home and tried to include her in every way on the show. Like the rest of us she got tired of EH being rude to guests like Rory Kennedy and others who were not of her political persuasion. The final blow was when EH was not defending her on Faux News, which if she was a true friend she would have done automatically. All this happened after Rosie arrived, let us not forget the spectacle of EH sitting on Babs lap in August with her crocodile tears and her head on Babs shoulder. It was like a Nickelodeon segment.
She represents everything that Coulter, Malik and Ingrahm spew, except she has the MRS and motherhood to soften the image…

“I’m wondering why do some of you loathe Elisabeth so much? It was very obvious Rosie disliked Elisabeth due to her christian values and conservative views.”
I WISH she were showing her Christian values!! I’m sorry but those arent the values I was taught. I can name a whole list of things that I associate with “Christian Values” and EH does not represent them or me.
“She was always so quick to jump on the “HOMOPHOBE” bandwagon whenever it was convenient to prove a point. Remember the Kelly Ripa/Clay Aiken incident? She would be so quick to say whatever she wanted but had a hissy fit when anyone disagreed.”
I personally disgreed with Rosie’s assertion that Kelly’s remark was homophobic. I dont think that was KR’s intent and I also dont think Rosie should have put it out there w/o maybe talking to Kelly about it. With that said, I should also mention that I’m not a homosexual and I cant tell someone how they should feel about a remark. If someone feels offended by a certain remark then its really not my place to tell them they dont have a valid point.
“I respect and admire Elisabeth for continuing her support of our President and our troops.”
You wont find ANYONE who does not support the troops. I think you’re trying to equate support for the president with support for the troops which is just plain dishonest! Didnt Thomas Jefferson state that dissent is the highest form of patriotism??? There are plenty of troops who are grateful for people like Rosie to speak on their behalf.
“Please remember that the enemy is not George Bush it’s the muslim terrorists that would love for every single one of us to be dead right now.”
I dont think anyone is stupid or confused about the threats that are out there. That doesnt give GB a free pass. There are still free thinking people out there who will question the actions of ‘leaders’ b/c there are REPERCUSSIONS for mistakes.
“Elisabeth never once said Iraq is our enemy, she was saying our enemies are IN Iraq”
WTF?!?!? Maybe you should clarify who exactly the enemies are and what they are doing in Iraq.
“If you want to blame 850,000 deaths on the American troops, that’s ignorant. Iraqi civilians were dying before we got there and they will continue to die after we leave.”
How many were dying before the invasion and how many are dying right now????? Heres an article I just saw today on the toll this invasion has taken on CHILDREN:
http://www.mcclatchydc.com/iraq/story/23552.html
I mean, if these things dont matter to people who support this war I dont know what else to say.
“I think torture in any way shape or form is wrong BY Americans or TO Americans-remember they’ve tortured soldiers and innocent civiilans as well.”
Well I’m glad to hear you dont support torture! I would hope most rational people would not support something like this.
“War is never pretty.”
Hmmm, what should I say to this….I think I should just leave it but it definitely rubbed me the wrong way. Its like EH saying 650,000 dead Iraqis is “unfortunate”

Rainville,
I don’t want you to think that I am dismissing your ..?..concern, or what word..?, non-understanding, of how I can still like or support E.H. .
I just am unsure how I can respond to that.
Maybe if you knew me better, it would be easier for you to understand how I can feel this way,..or how or why I feel about a lot of things.
I wonder if I sat down and talked with E.H. would i find that she really doesn’t want someone to experience torture. See I don’t think anyone really wants for someone to be tortured, including E.H.
Does she think that it is a possible way to get information from some “suppose to be” terrorist about planning an attack against the U.S.? I think it might be safe to say yes she probably does, or so it appears. Does she think that is okay? It “appears” as she might.
I use words like probably, appears, and might, ..because I really don’t know for sure. So many things are just not black & white. Some things are said that might be taken the wrong way. Like for example Rosie saying that 650,000 Iraqis are dead, who are the terrorist? Many people took that the wrong way. A way she never meant at all.
I am NOT making excuses for E.H….these are just things that are in my thoughts. My thinking.
Perhaps E.H. views torturing of suppose to be terrorist as okay. It’s just I’m not positive of that. And if she does, ..I guess I feel that that is something she has to live with.
I am not her judge.
I don’t know if that helps you any or not.

Sandy,
I can only take EH at her word. “Elisabeth tried to argue that torture should be allowed when when there is a high-ranking terrorist who has a lot of information that can prevent future terrorist acts.”
Someone should remind EH that not only is torture immoral, but it’s also illegal.
“She represents everything that Coulter, Malik and Ingrahm spew, except she has the MRS and motherhood to soften the image.”
Excellent!
Great post Stephanie!

Is this the same EH who bangs on about her faith and Christian values. How does she reconcile being a so-called Christian with her condonement of torture (and war, obviously).
January 5th, 2008 at 6:09 am
People like EH think tortore is “fair” and is a means to an end. Torture is nothing to do with the person being tortured. Torture is EVERYTHING about the people committing the act of torture - doesn’t she get it??? The fact that she condones torture tells me everything I need to know about her. Every time she talks about her so-called Christianity I want to barf - does she think God condones torture??

Ann,
It’s called “morals” something she lacks. But hey as long as she’s cute and holds the same political position as some, a little torture can be overlooked. We are living in very strange times. Aren’t you just overjoyed that torture loving Barbie will be back on the View on Monday?
