The View December 4th Recap: Ron Paul, Abagail Breslin, and Kate Walsh

by

kate-walsh.jpgKate Walsh, of Private Practice, sat in as guest host today on The View. The final new episode recorded prior to the writer’s strike will air tomorrow night. She said that the strike is crippling the business and affecting a lot of people. She thinks that they should be negotiating 24-7.

Joy Behar hosted Larry King Live last night, where the topic was Don Imus. They showed a clip of Larry Elders and Al Sharpton arguing with each other. Joy said that she chastised them during the break to not talk over one another. She said that it calmed down after that and she enjoyed doing it. She said that Al Sharpton was a lot more fun during the break. There is video of the show here, although I think it is only a partial clip.

The next topic was photographs of Jennifer Love Hewitt that showed a bit of cellulite. Kate said that Hewitt was a normal person on vacation without airbrushing. Kate said that they got her on vacation, not looking her best, too. She said that the tabloids are like modern day coliseum where people go to see other people knocked down. Sherri said that Kate, a newlywed, could not even do “freaky stuff” in jacuzzi because the paparazzi would take pictures. Joy said that we love our bodies more when we see that stars have cellulite. Whoopi said that this is an old issue, it is expected when you are in public eye, and only objects when they take pictures of people’s children.

The next topic was “Is perfectionism bad?” Joy said that it just gives you anxiety, because you cannot achieve it. Whoopi said that maybe you can achieve it if you set your own standards. Kate said that she has moments where she feels perfect or like a “stone cold fox” and you just have to live in that 30 seconds where you feel really good about yourself.

Sherri Shepherd is paying an astronomical amount for rent and now she is looking to buy a place. She saw a great loft apartment, but it was next to a methadone clinic which worried her. Whoopi said that she once looked online to see where the sex offenders were in Los Angeles and said it will “shock you” to see how close they are to you. Joy said that New York City is one of safest cities right now. Whoopi pointed out that people that are cleaning up their lives, by going on methadone, are not the ones she should worry about.

Joy went to get coffee this morning and there was a child in a stroller who pointed to a lollipop and kept saying “I want dessert!” She did not know what she would do with a child like that and also wanted to know why a child would think that a lollipop is dessert. Sherri said that her mom would threaten them before going into a store.

Ron Paul will be on the show today. He is running as a Republican, although he is Libertarian. Joy likes him because he wants to get out of Iraq, but does not like that he is not pro-choice, despite being a gynecologist. Kate said that he is a big supporter of home-schooling.

Joy said that she saw a show on The History Channel about Greek philosopher Epicurus and happiness. He said that happiness is “friendship, freedom, and thought (do you know yourself).” Joy said that Paris Hilton, based on those criteria is not happy. Whoopi thinks that Paris knows herself, is leading the life she wants to, and is happy.

Sherri thinks that happiness is a temporal thing and she is surprised that the list did not include family or spirituality. Whoopi said that the Greeks predated Jesus. Sherri said that Christianity came first and no one predated Jesus. Whoopi said “not on paper.” Epicurus lived on simple meals of water and vegetable and, for a treat, a pot of cheese and was happy. Joy said that today we are so connected with technology that we are on the edge of disaster.

Actress Abigail Breslin, from Little Miss Sunshine, appeared on the show to promote a project called “Power a Smile” with Duracell. If you go to Power a Smile and upload a picture of your smile, Duracell will donate $1 to children’s hospitals.

Going back to the earlier hot topic, Abigail said that she is happy, but does not like math because it doesn’t make sense to her sometimes. She gets tutored when she is on a set. Kate suggested she ask her tutor, “When am I ever going to use this again?”

She filmed a movie called Nim’s Island where they had a swear jar on the set. Co-star Gerard Butler swore a lot and she made a lot of money.

Congressman and presidential candidate Ron Paul appeared on the show. He is a 10-term congressman from Texas and also a gynecologist. He wants government to get out of people’s lives. Joy asked then how he can want the government to prevent women from getting abortions. He said that the issue is whether an eight pound baby in the eight month of gestation has rights. He said that Roe v. Wade allows abortion in the third trimester. He wants the states to handle the issue of abortion, not the federal government.

Whoopi said that women do not make this decision lightly and if everyone has the kids, what will we do with them? He said that abortions were done under rare circumstances before Roe v. Wade. He thinks it should be mandated at a local level. Kate said then women will have to have money to travel to other states where they can get an abortion.

He thinks that the immigration problem comes from the fact that we have a poor economy and people use immigrants as scapegoats because they are afraid about losing their jobs. He is not for amnesty because he doesn’t want to reward people who break the law.

Paul said that he would treat China like any other country. He would not fight them or put sanctions on them and would want to be friends with them and trade them. He said that the problem with China stems from problems in our economy and we keep printing money, causing the dollar to weaken.

Joy asked him that since he knows that he was probably not going to win, who would he vote for if he was not running? (There was an audible gasp from the crowd when she said that). He said that he doesn’t know that he is going to lose. He added that he doesn’t have anyone in the Republican party that he would vote for at this time. If they came around to his anti-war stance and some of his other policies then he might consider it.

Winnie thanks for the quick post.. I was quickly composing my response to todays show which finally had some real content to discuss!!!

In regards to Jennifer Love Hewitt. I cant believe Whoopie said she had stuff hanging off the back of her body. I know she tried to clarify what she meant.. but I dont think it helped JLH issue. Except for Kate Walsh, i dont think any of the woman can be photographed in a bathing suit without being scrutinized themself and they should of done more to promote acceptance of impferpect bodies in todays society and how it leads to eating disorders..

“they should of done more to promote acceptance of impferpect bodies in todays society and how it leads to eating disorders.”

I agree, most of the so called beauties are air brushed to death.

  3. Lisa Says:

no one predates Jesus??? WHAT???? HOW STUPID IS THIS WOMAN??? GOD, DON’T THEY GIVE SOME KIND OF TEST BEFORE THEY HIRE COMPLETE ILLITERATE, IGNORANT AND UNEDUCATED FOOLS. UMMMMMMMMM, no one predates Jesus???? someone better call Alexander the Great and let him know….(note to Sherrie: does B.C. mean anything to you??)…wow…so pathetic.

  4. Dee Says:

“Sherri said that Christianity came first and no one predated Jesus. Whoopi said “not on paper.”

I am so disappointed in Sherri’s statement, did she not have history courses in her schooling?

AS for Ron Paul, I didn’t know much about him before today and I can say today am not impressed. Edwards wants the troops out too and I see a vast difference between these two men.

I liked that Kate Walsh was a guest host today, she would get my vote any day.

Looks like Winnie was winning last weeks challenge…hope it is real!

  5. rainlillie Says:

    LOL @ Lisa.

    Dee,
I like Paul’s stance on the war too.

Hi guys I have been reading WTV for a little while and have fond you all o matter if agree with you or not to be a balance, smart, well rounded group. I wnate dto know from someone who maybe saw todays show in what siince did sherri think christanity was first? because if she ment it in some otherway way like religion alway been around or something. i would realy likt to think she is smarter than this comment

  7. New Linda Says:

There are other issues besides the war than are important. I’m not going to base my vote solely on whether or not a candidate promises to remove troops. In fact, that’s not even in my radar screen. It’s an added bonus, but not an issue that will make me vote foolishly for a man like Ron Paul.

  8. mibi Says:

For me the war is the number one issue, as polling have shown most Americans think so too. I also would like someone who is going to protect a womans right to choose. Those are two of the issues that I’m very much concerned about. own.http://www.pollingreport.com/prioriti.htm

  10. Rachel Says:

I’ve missed the 1st HT segment today, but I understand that JLH’s not-quite-perfect body (OMG!) was part of it… Ah, don’t we love hearing women discussing other women’s body parts…!
Regardless, this is getting ridiculous, I find. Tabloid trash treats cellulite on stars like it was a third nipple or a devil’s tail. It’s just so shallow, petty and stupid, I don’t get how this garbage sells at all.

Sherri’s “Jesus was here first” comment is, to me, another ingredient from her creationist pie. Since “the Earth is flat”, I don’t bother with Sherri on that issue anymore. I don’t know precisely what religious denomination Sherri belongs to, but I kinda get that evolution is something that simply doesn’t exist in her equation. I hate making sweeping generalizations, but I think her brand of christianity is so hell-bent on God creating the whole thing, that trying to use logic and scientific and/or written evidence to explain some phenomenons is simply a waste of time.
So when she said that, I had this kind of “Here she goes again” reaction, but no kick in the head type thing. I expect to hear many more similar statements from her in the future, and I’ll just go:” Well, it’s Sherri”.

I’ve seen Ron Paul in a couple of interviews previously, and I quite liked him. However, today, he annoyed me.
Do you guys know what I mean when I say: “Talking like a politician”? Not aswering questions clearly, or at all, or with another question, double-speaking your way out of an issue?
To me, that’s exactly what he did today, with the abortion thing. I think what Joy was focusing on, are the abortions that are “the legal norm”, the ones who are done in the first 12 weeks. And Ron Paul kept sliding towards partial abortions, that can -apparently- be done up to 8 (!!!) months.
I actually see these as two separate issues, and the way he kept mixing the two up really got on my nerves.
As for his views on home-schooling, I don’t share them at all.
There’s that documentary “Jesus Camp” that I have been going on about a lot lately, because it really kicked my butt. Basically, Jesus Camp is a Bible-study camp for evangelical kids age 9 to 13. Most of the kids, if not all, featured in that doc were home-schooled, and a statistic said that 75% of home-schooled children come from evangelical families.
There’s one scene where you see the mother teaching her two sons, and the title of the book she’s reading from is: “Exploring creation with physical science”. Then goes on to tell them that global warming is basically bull, and that creation is the one and only answer to all the questions.
That to me, is not “schooling” whatsoever. It’s transmitting one’s knowledge, but also one’s personal beliefs to the younger generation.
And there is also the fact that I consider school to be not only a place where kids gain knowledge, it’s also a social experiment, and a necessary one at that. You learn discipline, you learn to get along with other kids, you learn that everyone is different; I think that is a very important step in a kids life.
Sorry if I’m ranting, it’s an issue I easily get fired up about.

These are my comments for today’s show, I’d just like to add that Abigail Breslin’s voice was like nails on a blackboard and I could have totally done without that interview; I’d have gladly taken another helping of Ron Paul instead.

[...] predated Christians by Winnie McCarthy There have been some questions about Sherri Shepherd’s comments on The View today about Christianity and Jesus predating the time of Greek philopsher Epicurus. Here is a video [...]

  13. jess Says:

What do I have to do to get a job on the View, make millions of dollars, and influence thousands of women worldwide?

Oh, I remember….have absolutely no knowledge of history or scientific theories and an intensive knowledge on celebrity gossip and old lady sex topics.

Silly me….I should throw this degree out…its absolutely worthless.

  14. Cheryl Says:

    Rachel,
of course you have the right to your opinion about homeschooling, but drawing your conclusions about all homeschooling, based on what you saw in the Jesus Camp video is like having an opinion on all public education based on the quality of education in the poorest, worst school in America. I for one am a Christian, who homeschools my children, and yes(gasp!!!!) believes that God created the world and yes (double gasp!!)
have the nerve to teach my children what and why I believe it, and YES!!!! I do use logic and i’m guessing you’d have a hard time believing this, but i actually do believe “scientific evidence to explain some phenomenoms”. if you “hate making sweeping generalizations”, then please don’t make them. and so what that “75% of home-schooled children come from evangelical families”? big freaking deal!!!!! what is your point? guess what? i can rant and get really fired up to,especially when people put me and my family down who don’t know a thing about us, what were doing, and apparently not about homeschooling at all. oops, gotta go! time to take my kiddos to the local KKK meeting for their indoctrination!

  15. Cheryl Says:

    Rachel,
ok, i’ve taken my pms pill and taken a deep breath and want to say more calmly:
just like you don’t want people mixing up 2 different issues, please don’t mix up your reaction to the Jesus Camp video with homeschooling or evangelical Christians, at all, for that matter. that’s prejudice. i’m sure you believe in respecting people and making educated, informed decisions about issues (and i mean that seriously, not smart-assy) and therefore, please understand, that those kind of conclusions you drew about homeschoolers were both disrespectful and uninformed. that’s all i’m trying to say.

  16. Aileen Says:

Crap.. My first entry posted before I was finished.. Vista is killing me with this new puter..

Here is a good post in regards to JLH fat shaming.. http://www.feministe.us/blog/archives/2007/12/04/kiss-my-larger-than-usual-ass/

Sherry’s is killing me.. another stupid ignorant statement.. “Nothing predates Christianity” ??? Who feeds her this crap? Just because biblical history may go back to a certain time, doesn’t mean it predates certain religions.
Although this subject is highly debatable “Zoroastrianism is the oldest of the revealed world-religions, and it has probably had more influence on mankind, directly and indirectly, than any other single faith.” Mary Boyce. Also, it is said that religion was created (prior to science) for environmental issues. The fertility god hence the earth goddess, and other gods to explain the seasons, the moon, etc. Male gods were introduced later due to men having a .. er.. Um.. Hand in the conception and well as men who were administrating the words of the religion. It is said that Islam, Judaism, Christianity are based off older religions since these religions did not first identify an all knowing god, good and evil.. Etc..

On the real issue today~~~~~~~~~~~~ It so pisses me off that none of these woman were prepared to debate the issue of abortion.

Prior to the U.S. Supreme Court’s famous Roe v. Wade decision, abortions were permitted in certain states but banned in others. The court ruled in 1973 that, anywhere in the U.S.:

    - a woman and her doctor may freely decide to terminate a pregnancy during the first trimester,
    - state governments can restrict abortion access after the first trimester with laws intended to protect the woman’s health.
    - abortions after fetal viability must be available if the woman’s health or life are at risk; state governments can prohibit other abortions.

Since Roe vs. Wade, many attempts have been made to further restrict abortion. Over 30 states have banned partial (late term) abortion unless it affects the health of the mother. This has been recently upheld by the supreme court if the procedure performed is not for the benefit of the mothers health. This is what Ron Paul was speaking about when discussing having an abortion when the fetus is 8 months or so. This is a small percentage of abortion and I feel more important questions should of been asked regarding his political stance on the issue. Not fall into the grotesqueness of woman having to make decisions that may be the biggest decisions they may ever have to make as Whoopie pointed out.

1).. Does he plan to overturn Roe vs. Wade completely and allow all states to decide whether woman have the right to an abortion at all?
2).. Does he plan to have a woman obtain permission from a man if they obtain an abortion under the current law. (They typically do not permit abortions after 20 or 21 week gestation unless the woman’s health or life are seriously at risk)
3).. If partial abortion (late term) is successfully banned in all states, Will they provide federal or state aid in raising children that are severely disabled as diagnosed during a woman pregnancy which why the option for partial birth was introduced. Some woman obtain these late term abortions due to the fact that they are unable to care for or support a severely disabled child. (I am not supporting all these views here personally, but these are some of the circumstances.
4).. What are his thoughts or plans if any on criminalization of woman who obtain abortion if he does plan to have it illegal?

    http://www.progressive.org/media_mpreagan030106

I am personally pro life in my decisions that I have made and the circumstances I have been in, but I have not walked in another woman shoes who have made such decisions. Here is a great article which I think advocates pro choice.

  18. New Linda Says:

The poll indicates that most are concerned with the Iraq war. That is a broad statement. Under that umbrella can be lots of issues…war on “terror”…oil prices…troop withdrawal.

The reason that the war isn’t a deciding factor for me is because all the major candidates sound the same on the issue. Dems and Reps. They just use different wording to say the same thing.

  19. Rachel Says:

That’s why I mentioned my dislike of generalizations, but they are sometimes necessary, when you want to express a general idea.

I want to apologize if I offended you, or other people like who home-school their children and/or are Christians.
I also want you to know that my opinion on that matter is not solely based on watching Jesus Camp; I’ve watched it recently, so it’s quite fresh in my memory, and yes, what I saw on it shocked and shook me up deeply, but it an issue I’d thought about way before that movie was ever made, and that I was already feeling uneasy about.
I get scared when I see religion mixed with politics, and I also get scared when I see it mixed with education. It is my personal opinion that religion should be kept out of the classroom. I don’t mean to be disrespectful, it’s really just the way I see it.

Maybe it’s just me who has my head way up my …, but I have difficulty looking at home-schooling as a positive, although it’s very possible that it has good aspects too. I’m aware that school is very far from being perfect, there are many problems, bullying, violence and so on, and maybe it’s because I grew up a very rural area, where these problems were minimal at worst, so for me, going to school was a good experience as a whole, and a necessary one, I think. But then, again, I’ve never known anything else, and you probably are able to tell by my posts that I’m not religious, so it’s much easier for me to see religion and education as two absolutely different and separate entities, and which should, IMO stay that way.

Once again, I’m sorry if I offended you, I didn’t mean to judge or lack respect, and if it’s the way my post came across, I apologize.

  20. Ann Says:

Arrrggh. I’m trying not to dislike Sherri because of her ignorance and stupidity. She does know that Jesus was JEWISH doesn’t she? That the Jewish religion is about 6000 years old compared to Christianity which is 2000 years old. Buddhism (and Zoroastrianism) mentioned above are about 8000 years old. Sherri’s type of blinded Christianity and Osama Bin Laden’s blinded type of islam are people cut from the same cloth - both sides terrify me equally.

  21. New Linda Says:

Based on the fact that he’s a libertarian, I think his responses would be the following.

I’m using caps to distinguish my comments from your questions.

1).. Does he plan to overturn Roe vs. Wade completely and allow all states to decide whether woman have the right to an abortion at all?

    YES.

I WOULD SAY TO THIS ONE. LIBERTIANS BELIEVE THAT THE GOVERNMENT SHOULDN’T BE A CHARITY. CHARITABLE CAUSES SHOULD BE LEFT TO NON PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS. ALL GOVERNMENT FUNDED PROGRAMS TO HELP THOSE IN NEED WILL BE GONE.

This is precisely what I mean by the fact that I WOULD NEVER vote for a candidate solely on the fact that s/he will begin immediate troop withdrawl. Paul will remove the troops and strip away benefits for children, equal protection under the law, and employee protection. You name it…it’s gone.

Making a voting decision based on one issue can cripple this country.

  22. New Linda Says:

Nope, it’s not just you Rachel.

  23. Sandy Says:

I didn’t get to see the show,…but sure wish I had..based on all the comments it seems to have been an interesting one.

they should of done more to promote acceptance of imperfect bodies in today’s society and how it leads to eating disorders.”
    I agree 100%

I won’t comment on Sherri’s statement until I see the video. Which I want to watch, even though it’ll take forever with this slow dial-up. :) ..I have a feeling that she didn’t mean it as it came out though.

I’m not a fan of Ron Paul, although I would have been interested in what he had to say.
I as well will not be bassing my vote souly on the Iraq war. There are so many other issues that are important as well.

Home Schooling I am in favor of, if a family chooses it. I don’t know anything at all about this Jesus camp. However I do know some families that Home School their children. They use all the standard text books that are used in public schools. They have “mandated” state, and grade level test to take and pass that are administered by teachers. As for social involvement, with other children, the families I know have many, and many friends, As well they also are involved in sports, they play baseball and soccer.
I don’t have young children, my youngest is a senior. However if I did, given all that transpires in public schools now a days, I think I might opt to Home School as well.
I consider myself a fairly religious person, and I think some people may misconceive the idea that religious people can’t or don’t have scientific knowledge or viewpoints. They would be mistaken. One can believe in Creationism, and be a very intelligent and knowledgeable person.

  24. rainlillie Says:

People will and should vote based on issues that are important to them. I think there are differences between the candidates on the issue of the war. I don’t have time to list them all, but all you have to do is google each candidate and read where they stand. I said the war was a big issue for “me” I would expect others may feel differently , and I’m sure they’ll vote according to their own priorities.

  25. rainlillie Says:

“Sherri’s type of blinded Christianity and Osama Bin Laden’s blinded type of islam are people cut from the same cloth - both sides terrify me equally.”

    I totally agree.

  26. rainlillie Says:

“I am personally pro life in my decisions that I have made and the circumstances I have been in, but I have not walked in another woman shoes who have made such decisions. Here is a great article which I think advocates pro choice.”

    Aileen,
I agree with you 100 percent!

  27. Rachel Says:

I agree that many Christians do believe in both Creationism and evolution. I know a few myself, but the religious folks I know personally, practice their beliefs in a more “old-school” type of way. By that I mean, none of them -except one, whom I have not seen for ages- belongs to a specific religious group, like we see more and more of; like here, in Montreal, we have one called (possibly clumsy translation ahead): the Church of Jesus-Christ of Montreal. They do their sermons not in proper churches, but in large rented venues, and these sermons attract hundreds of ppl. And their group doesn’t mix with other similar ones, it’s their specific denomination, and I believe there are many groups like this, similar, but with some specific differences.
I grew up as a Catholic, I used to go to church on sundays with my parents, and I had one religious ed. class a week. Mega-churches are not something I grew accustomed to, and they’re extremely different from what I’m familiar with.

It seems to me that the face of religion has changed a lot in the last few decades.

Once again I went off-topic. Back to the Creationism vs evolution thing.
I don’t want to judge anyone who believes in Creation alone.
But on my own personal level, I have a really really hard wrapping my head around this concept, and I just don’t get how one can negate the scientific evidence around evolution. I’m aware the theory is not without its flaws and loopholes, but there is definite physical, tangible evidence for evolution, and… I don’t know what else to say, but I just don’t get how one can simply reject the idea of evolution as a whole.
And I want to add that the above is stricly MY opinion. I really don’t mean to diss anyone.

  28. New Linda Says:

I personally know where they all stand. No one impresses me on the issue.

  29. rainlillie Says:

I like Joe Biden’s as well as Edwards, Kucinich’s and Paul’s stance on the war.

  30. rainlillie Says:

My husband and I thought about home schooling our children, but after research and talking to friends who have home schooled, we decided against it. One of the main reason was the socialization factor.
I wanted my children to go to school and be with children their own age and experience new people. My sons friend was home schooled and now he’s in public school. He likes going to school outside of the home better than staying at home. Each family is different and people have a right to chose. Choice is a beautiful thing!

  31. rainlillie Says:

“I have a really really hard wrapping my head around this concept, and I just don’t get how one can negate the scientific evidence around evolution. Well said!

  32. Aileen Says:

    Rachel,

I think I understood your meaning.. Watching a show like you did does make some people generalize and disaprove. Although regardless when children are home schooled, they will get their racist, right wing, left wing anti science point of views regardless from their parents. It amazes me when I read about the fundamentalist religions and what they stand for and how they have the ability to still brainwash people who are recruited into their congregations. I guess we have to accept the fact that some people are unable to think for themselves and need others to lead and direct them regardless how absurd the direction is. There are plenty of children who are raised in these environments who emerge thinking for themselves which is all we can hope for. The people that I know who homeschool do so for other reasons. They are good enough reasons for me to do as well for the few that are still left at home.. but lord have mercy… I NEED MY QUIET TIME TO BLOG HERE!!!!LMAOOOO

  33. Stacee Says:

Whoopi really bugged me today. First with the funny faces while the others were discussing she JLH cellulite incident. First she said Jennifer was ‘hanging’ then she tried to backpedal when Joy indicated it was cellulite that was photographed. Cellulite does not hang! You goofed Whoopi.
Then she tried to say Paris is happy because she has a clothing line or jewelry line. Then later on she agreed that we can’t determine who’s happy. So which is it Whoopi?
She really comes off to me as someone who can’t be wrong.

Kate said something about why the papparazzi can’t pay more attention to the world affairs. Go Kate.
That Sherri would get some type of thrill to read about a celebrities blemish because it makes her not feel so bad about her saggy boobs is WEIRD to me.

I thought Kate looked a little uncomfortable when Sherri was talking about her and her husband ‘getting freaky’.

Then Sherri and the noone predated Jesus comment.
    OMG. Wow.

The Ron Paul interview: I totally agree with Rachel’s comments; they really should have been better prepared if they were going to debate abortion. Joy and Whoopi came off as weak and uninformed. I also agree that a second dosage of Ron Paul would have been preferable to seeing Abigale.

Joy’s comment to Ron Paul about there being NO CHANCE of getting the nod was in bad taste. What a thing to say!

I really wish I had seen the Joy on LK show last night. I hope they replay it.

Who said they’re voting based on “one issue?”
I would hope that people have a long list of issues that concern them. The war is the main issue for me, not the only issue.

  36. New Linda Says:

    Rain,

Please stop taking my posts personally. I’m on a rant…it has nothing to do with you.

  37. williscript Says:

WOW! THE ONE CHILD LEFT BEHIND OPENS HER MOUTH AND STRIKES AGAIN. Watch for a forthcoming Herculean effort to clean this one up! By Sherri and Den Mother Emeritus, “Bab-Wa”. She must be somewhere clutching her bleached balding head in despair. Her shameless self-promotions notwithstanding, she is useless on the show and should be called to task by ABC execs for hiring this moron. Come to think of it, most of her other selections weren’t so great either. Star Jones was a disaster, Elisabeth is a reality TV-minded idiot, and Meredith is a mental case. “Bab-Wa” long ago lost whatever credibility she claims to have had, and her judgment is clearly flawed. Both Whoopi and Sherri should stay in their careers as comedic actors. Whoopi is truly out of her element and can’t even maintain a façade of interest, and her segues are painful to watch, and Sherri is an embarrassment to women in general and women of color in particular. The selection of these two was a social experiment that is not working, so I say to ABC programmers: Cut your losses and re-vamp The View. Get rid of Barbara, Elisabeth and Whoopi and Sherri, and start all over with Joy at the helm. As evidenced by her recent refreshing turns in Larry King’s seat, she would be great. There is definitely an audience for this type of daytime programming, especially for those of us who are not soap opera fans.

  38. rainlillie Says:

“WOW! THE ONE CHILD LEFT BEHIND OPENS HER MOUTH AND STRIKES AGAIN”

    ROTFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  39. Aileen Says:

    Willi,

Holy crap.. I hope you don’t own a gun .. ur skearing me.. :-)

  40. rainlillie Says:

    New Linda,
I thought maybe I didn’t explain myself well enough that’s all. I just wanted you to know that I wasn’t voting based on one issue.

  41. rainlillie Says:

    williscript,
Thanks for the laugh. I just reread your post and it’s pretty darn funny.

  42. New Linda Says:

I get you, Rain. Really I do.

Last week I had a conversation with a libertarian that really upset me. We both agreed that Ron and Dennis are not going to win the nomination and will probably run together as independents.

Dems will vote for them and thereby splitting the vote for the Democratic candidate. This will leave a Repub in office.

Ron will be next years Nader and we know how that turned out.

So that’s the backstory about my rant.

  43. Rachel Says:

    LMAO, williscript, that was hilarious!

I think maybe you’re a bit rough on poor Meredith but I guess that’s because I’m totally biased about her, I really liked her on the View, and they don’t air the Today show over here, so I don’t know how’s she like now. Having to get up at 3 am would sure make me mental!

But I agree with you, and I did wonder, after Rosie left, why they didn’t let Joy have a shot at moderating. Instead, we had to suffer through Babs’ moderating, and that period, I like to call “the dark Ages of the View”.

I’d love to see Joy hosting Larry King (or any show for that matter, just to see how she does on her own).
From what you guys say, she seems to do a good job.

  44. Sandy Says:

Okay I had to go earlier,…but now had an opportunity to watch the little segment of Sherri. i wish i had been able to see and hear what lead to this subject.

Obviously Sherri made a big boo-boo.
What I don’t understand is what the big hoopla is all about?
Well I don’t condemn her because of mistake.

  45. Aileen Says:

Sandy.. you are just to kind and probraly wouldnt hurt a fly.. but come on woman!!!! who doesnt know Jesus was a jew prior to being crucifed??? We also know the Romans threw Christians to the lions..not the greeks.. ok we all watched the religous shows growing up… and if she really knows her bible.. wouldnt she know some of this stuff?? Im just saying… in the words of Homer Simpson… D’OH!!!!!!!!!

  46. Aileen Says:

Ok… I will bite.. maybe she didnt own a tv growing up…. atleast one for picture and one for sound.. oh and her bible study groups dont have bibles??? Im just saying… :-)

  47. Nick Says:

Here is an overview of why you should vote for Ron Paul…

So called free trade deals and world governmental organizations like the International Criminal Court (ICC), NAFTA, GATT, WTO, and CAFTA are a threat to our independence as a nation. They transfer power from our government to unelected foreign elites. If those un elected foreign elites think Roe V. Wade should be overturned then you have nothing to say over it and protesting & writing your representatives will be a thing of the past..

The ICC wants to try our soldiers as war criminals. Both the WTO and CAFTA could force Americans to get a doctor’s prescription to take herbs and vitamins. Alternative treatments could be banned. Along with abortion across the board, not just state by state..

The WTO has forced Congress to change OUR laws, yet we still face trade wars. Today, France is threatening to have U.S. goods taxed throughout Europe. If anything, the WTO makes trade relations worse by giving foreign competitors a new way to attack U.S. jobs.

NAFTA’s superhighway is just one part of a plan to erase the borders between the U.S. and Mexico, called the North American Union. This spawn of powerful special interests, would create a single nation out of Canada, the U.S. and Mexico, with a new unelected bureaucracy and money system. Forget about controlling immigration under this scheme.

And a free America, with limited, constitutional government, would be gone forever.

Let’s not forget the UN. It wants to impose a direct tax on us. Ron Paul successfully fought this move in Congress last year, but if we are going to stop ongoing attempts of this world government body to tax us, we will need leadership from the White House.

We must withdraw from any organizations and trade deals that infringe upon the FREEDOM and independence of the United States of America.

So in conclusion, if we let ourselves be involved in these organizations, what you think will NOT matter. And your vote will just be something to do for kicks every four years. Ron Paul wants OUT of these groups & wants YOU to have control. I think MOST states will uphold Roe V. Wade if it was left up to them, but if we are involved in WWIII then I dont think you will be too worried about R V. W.. Am I wrong here?

  48. Nick Says:

Oh. And if you would like you can visit the web site fish dont walk to get a better grasp of how Christians view evolution. =)

  49. Nick Says:

    Sorry… New here..

    http://www.fishdontwalk.com

  50. rainlillie Says:

    It’s cool New Linda :-)

Is it possible that Sherri was talking figuratively and not literally…I know I’m reaching here, but what do you guys think?

  51. rainlillie Says:

    Aileen,
    :-) You crack me up!

  52. Dee Says:

williscript! I agree, even about Meredith!

  53. Real Says:

Sherri actually grabbed my attention when I heard her use the word “temporal.” Moments later, I was snapped back into reality when I realized she was still stuck on stupid. Why do I picture the producers giving her one new vocabulary word a day, defining it, and then telling her to practice using it in a sentence? Tomorrow, they seriously need to start on world history. Wow, wow, wow.

  54. New Linda Says:

    “Am I wrong here”

    Since you asked, yes. :-)

  55. Lisa Says:

Nice try Rain…but no, I think Sherrie is a total incompetent and should be fired. It’s not just about today. ABC needs to suck it up and realize they made a big mistake (i.e. fire Sherrie) before the show loses the little credibility it has left.

  56. New Linda Says:

Remember Deb? She got fired for being ditzy. But I don’t think Sherri will get fired for being incompetent because a good percentage of Americans agree with her view point. (I’m talking in general, not about this specific issue because I don’t know)

I believe it was Gallup who conducted a poll, perhaps within the last three years, that indicated a third of the American population believe the bible verbatim.

  57. Aileen Says:

Nick.. ur skearing me tooo… its kinda of late for me to ingest all your post and investigate.. (I do best in the early a.m.) So in lieu.. I am sipping wine and hoping to get into the groove.. (only because it’s a slow t.v. evening) but I gotta tell ya.. This ironically sounds like more rhetoric to impose fear. I would imagine foreign countries are always trying to buck our system for their benefits which is why Ron Paul has a job thus far. It appears he is diligent at his work. I would also imagine the white house would continue to employ someone of his expertise to deflect and protect our constitution to the outside world. I think the bigger issue is, is how our constitutional rights are being amended to reflect a dictatorship here in the U.S. and imposed on U.S. citizens by the current administration. I am more concerned right now on how our civil liberties are vanishing before our very eyes. We are identifying on a regular basis how this current administration are crooks and thieves and we should start here at home to restore our civil liberties and eliminate war mongering and resolve the Iraq war without creating a mass murder of the remaining Iraqis once we pull out. This concerns me more than what foreign organization would want to try to change our laws from overseas. I am not saying this is not an issue.. But I think there are more impending issues to deal with. I would rather hear more of what Ron Paul intends to do about those issues. I am all for reconciling our constitutional rights here at home before we address what countries want to do to us that we can blow up J ok too much vino.. I will visit the site in the a.m. and look into it further.. But the above statements I stand by. POWER TO THE PEOPLE!!! J

  58. Aileen Says:

    j = :-)

  59. Peaches Says:

Aileen, I thanked you on the wrong thread. I appreciated what you said today about Roe. I like all your posts, the rollicking ones about dirty martinis and the more restrained ones. But thanks in particular for today’s writing on Roe.

  60. Aileen Says:

Rain… thanks for getting my humor.. seems you are the only one :-)

I feel so unapreciated.. i get no respect :-)

  61. Sandy Says:

    Aileen,…and others,
Nope you’re wrong, I would kill a fly if it was in my home. :)

I really don’t want anyone to think that they should defend their thoughts or views to me.

Some times I write a comment purely based on emotions, or feelings at that time. So it may not have anything at all to do with facts.
I’m not sure in which way Sherri was speaking, figuratively or literally,. To me it just doesn’t seem all that big a deal.

I just am the type of person ..?..I don’t know, I usually try to look for positive things about people. Just me :)

  62. Aileen Says:

Your welcome sweet Peaches.. I was gonna make mention to your wrong post just a post a go.. but i coudlnt find it to make mention too.. still cant.. think the wine has impeeded my brain like the bush administration to the US Media.. lord help me.. my brain could shrink like a man in the cold ocean.. HEEEELLLP MEEEEE!!!!!!!

  63. Sandy Says:

    #57 Great post Aileen…IMO.

  64. Aileen Says:

    Sandy…

I think that makes you a bleeding heart.. you care about people and their a) ignorance based on lack of experience meaning they may the ability to truly understand the circumstances if they were properly educated.. or b) you are a soothsayer and can detect the real meaning of ones words.. :-) I am kidding woman.. I love your posts and do enjoy your feedback.. but this time I have to point out that you just missed it. Thats all.. i missed a few before and was corrected. (btw i gave kudos to those :-) who did ) anyway woman.. you are a lova at heart.. and i appreciate that.. But for real.. peeps on tv who influence others with their opinion should be more educated/informed before they spread their views on tv before millions. From the words of Homer Simpson again… D’OH!!!!

  65. Aileen Says:

I am shocked you would kill a fly in your own home.. I hope your children dont know buot that.. seriously.. my oldest son is a fly lova.. we kill bugs outside his view.. its rediculous..lmaoooooooo no kiddin.. so lady i know you and love u..

  66. williscript Says:

For those of you who thought I was a bit rough on The View Ladies in my previous post, I have an excuse:I BLAME THE WRITERS STRIKE. After witnessing this morning’s latest demonstration of Sherri Shepherd’s idiocy, and realizing how much I am looking forward to tomorrow’s show to watch her try to clean up the mess, I began to realize that I have entirely too much free time on my hands lately. Due to the Writers Strike, The View, in all its verbal GORY has become my guilty pleasure. And as long as I’m confessing, I will admit here to two secret indulgences that fill me with joy and shame in equal measure. A combo so humiliatingly good, it must be sinful. #1: Hostess Ho Hos, those Chocolate-bathed, cream-filled, tubular confections with absolutely no nutritional value whatsoever, they are an endless rotation of sugar and carbs, pointlessly decadent and completely wonderful. And #2: The View: My weekday morning treasure trove of ill-conceived pairings, loose-lipped gaffes, annoying cross-talk, linguistically impoverished co-hosts, and a self-promoting Den Mother Emeritus long overdue for retirement. But like a long-time alcoholic in total denial, I know I can quit any time I want to. PLEASE HELP ME!!! TAKE ME TO MY 12-STEP PROGRAM!!!!!

  67. Lisa Says:

I’m still LMAO….I forgot about the “temporal” part…oh god, I needed a laugh today. Have you all seen the stories about Sherrie on the Huffington Post and other sites. Poor Sherrie. OK, but seriously folks, don’t you have to sort of KNOW SOME STUFF before you can have a “View” on it. I think they should start mandating private tutoring for the new hosts. You know, at least the basics…the world is round, there were thousands and thousands of years of civilization before good ol Jesus popped up. Hitting children is bad…talking aobut your boobs everyday gets old fast….you get the idea. Just a thought, note to Babs :)

I’m not a fan of Sherri’s either, but I don’t think she should be fired. I just don’t take her seriously. Someone said maybe they hired her, to make EH look smart…Hmmmmmmmmmmmm.

  70. Aileen Says:

    Willie

your killin me.. you have a way with words that roll of your tongue in a procrustean manor. Your tomfoolery slays me with your autological guilty pleasures. The view hosts are fun to watch with their flibbertigibbet manors and wait with baited breathe for their ineluctable demise.. We will no doubt reduplicate this constant rant.
