Aileen’s Recap part 1
(disclaimer: this post is not intended to look like Winnie’s since she is an actual writer, can spell properly, doesn’t misuse the English language and doesn’t stalk Webster to add her lazy butt words to the dictionary.)
Yuck, I think I have the flu.. I am gonna give today’s recap another whirl but it may be spotted with wooziness and speckled with reflux.
For those of you who where confused in regards to yesterdays comments surrounding Joy’s comments on Huckabee, the fabulous commentator “NewLinda” provided us with much “Need To Read” articles that clarify why Joy was so insistent on revealing some old dirt. Below are the links.. Please make sure you don’t eat before or after reading.. Rain could attest to that.
http://www.radio.villagevoice.com/news/0110,harkavy,22841,1.html
http://www.slate.com/id/2179388/nav/fix/
Special Co-host is Ricki Lake. She has a lot of nerve showing off her new body and they discussed her new sway and confidence. Skinny Biotches can exit stage left.
Whoopi is explaining “Friends with Benefits” She says she never heard of this.. Yeah right.. Ricki thinks it could be a healthy thing. Hanging out with your friends drinking late and having that moment like.. As Whoopie says “I’m horny…. You horny?. Lets go do it!!!!!” Ok Whoopi said that she didn’t understand this concept and she seems to be going on and on with examples of friends with benefits almost sounding like she is speaking from experience.. Hmmmmm… Ok my idea of friends with benefits are; a friend to clean my house, a friend to cook the meals, a friend to do the shopping, OH OH and a friend to do my yard work. Its all as exhausting as sex so they shouldn’t know any better. Those are the kinda friends I want.
Ok.. Joy is rambling about something in code.. And no one gets her. I am not going to elaborate. My head hurts.
On to divorce. Whoopi says its easier to get divorce online. She is getting agitated with everyone not listening to her and going off subject. Whoopi says she just loves the party. The wedding. She says everyone is happy for you even the people who hate you. Ok back to online divorce, geeze they quickly moved to marriage counseling and my head is spinning. I am getting nauseous. They cant stay on topic today. Whoopi wonders if quitting the divorce is a failure even though it’s the right choice. Lord have mercy.. Who wants to divorce? I remember standing in the court house when I was getting a divorce, I was crying my eyes out regretting that the I was firing the yard/pool boy, the carpenter, the babysitter and eliminating the second income… It was devastating for me. I replaced him with a Sugar Daddy and friends with benefits.. ( hand over mouth with a Mutley the dog snicker)
They go on to talk about getting married again. Joy said she wont because she has a tough time leaving a relationship. She was fired from every job she had because she didn’t know when it was time to leave. I am more interested in why she got fired from all her jobs. She did say that “The View” is the only job she has not gotten fired from.. Yet.. “ (breaks out in song.. Tomorrow.. Tomorrow.. Theres always… Tomorrow.. .. )
The audience all gets some stink water that Whoopi did not want to go near.
Omg, I cant believe that was hot topics.. I have to re-watch HT cause there really is not a shred of humor or controversy I can find in it. Ok.. That was it for HT

Aileen’s Recap part 2 - (please see the disclaimer on part 1
)
Steve Cusack is on promoting his movie “Grace is Gone”. Wow he is tall compared to the boring woman. In the movie he loses his wife I think in the war and he somehow doesn’t tell the children and takes them on an adventure prior to telling them to maintain their innocence. Finally they talk about “Say Anything” and how he never got an Oscar nod or award. (yikes) The look on Whoopi’s face is priceless. Its like another.. Oh no you didn’t go there!!!!! Ricki and Sherry go on to ask if he did get a nod for this movie, who would he take as a date? Then they ask would he take his sister Joan, then Ricki says I will be your date.. WHOOPI IS GOING TO EXPLODE!!!!! Sherry and Ricki’s interviewing skills are as good as 2 grade school girls who are boy crazy and who wear underwear with the days of the week on them. Whoopi cuts them off, and shakes her head and exclaims “Jeezy Peezy” (I had to rewind twice to get that) and tries to ask a real question while she looks dumbfounded wondering how did I get this gig? Lord that woman cant help but express herself. Ok Joy now asks John, what would be a signal for a woman to get his attention.. Whoopi is going to explode again!!! This is too comical and Whoopi is dying. Omg.. Todays show is so cheezey that my cholesterol just shot up.
Another guest, Ernie Hudson is on promoting the movie “Everything Jake” Please god let them ask good questions cause I am gonna die from a heart attack from all this cheese!! ELIZABETH.. IT’S THE BIG ONE!!!!.. I suddenly feel like I am watching the Nickelodeon channel. Ernie’s movie is about him being a homeless man teaching another homeless man to survive on the streets. Some one should of taught him how to survive an interview on “The View“. Ernie did some research and tried living on the streets but couldn’t make it past 3 hours. Too cold and hungry. I would like to see him survive in my house for one hour after my mother had her xanax. She is sitting across from me right now staring at me wanting to engage in conversation as I write this post. Where is that bridge. Ernie goes on to say that there are no victims on the streets. Once you accept your circumstances and the choices you made, you will then have the ability to make different choices to move ahead. (something like that). Joy asked him about people who are truly victims in some circumstances like woman with children who lost their homes due to financial reasons or fires. Ok.. Get this.. Ernie says.. Well I don’t know the circumstance.. (I think she just gave two) but he continues to say “Life is what it is”. “You can fight against it or be in denial or blame something, or hate, you need to ask yourself now what do I do” Ummmm.. I don’t know bout you guys.. But it is pretty easy with someone with a pretty decent career and income to make such statements about a woman with children who don’t have the means. Joy did her pursing of the lips thingy. Cracked me up. Her only push back of the day.
Ok time for the give away of 3 Dodge Caravan’s for the Caroling for a Caravan contest. After looking at the first 2 videos.. I think I can do this myself. My daughter is begging me to write the song and she wants a new Van for her 2 kids. I wonder if there are nudity restrictions? Are we allowed to have lyrics like.. Gotta, geeze, friggin and OMG?? The third winner who performed on stage is a girl band who needs to the van to tour. All three girls had amazing hair and clothes and I think I hate them.
OMG!! In closing of the show, they showed a clip of Ricki Lake’s documentary “The Business of Being Born” which opens January 9th in select cities. It’s a documentary on her delivering her child and the entire experience of delivering at home. (ok, there was a clip of her mostly nude leaning on the kitchen island and all I can look at was the design of her kitchen and the utensils in the lovely matched containers. They closed it with the Co-Hosts talking about Ricki Lake’s documentary event opening in NYC and Whoopi asks “Who is the host of the event? Ricki responds… ok get this.. You never thought this would be repeated on the View…you ready???? You sure???? Ricki says.. “The Co-Host of the event is….. ROSIE O’DONNELL” !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Pigs did fly!!!!!
December 7th, 2007 at 12:30 pm
“Ok my idea of friends with benefits are; a friend to clean my house, a friend to cook the meals, a friend to do the shopping, OH OH and a friend to do my yard work.”
LMAO! Yeah those are the kind of “friends with benefits ” I want too. That’s so cool that Ricki mentioned Rosie’s name. How did the audience respond?
“Sherry and Ricki’s interviewing skills are as good as 2 grade school girls who are boy crazy and who wear underwear with the days of the week on them.”
ROTFLMAO!! That is too funny!
Once again another brilliant post Aileen. It was very humorous and entertaining.
December 7th, 2007 at 12:44 pm
Aileen, my how you do run on…(kidding). I watched most of the show and am glad I missed the part about Ricky and her “birthing experience”..gads how many more times is she gonna show that? I can’t see Cusack and Ricky on a dinner date as he suggested. Since your post was lengthy , I won’t feel guilty about telling my dream last nite. I dreamed I “worked” for Bawa and she called me into her office, for which I was sorely afraid, only to find out that she asked me if I would date John Dean ( lawyer from the Watergate era) in the hopes that a local union might go back to work(???). I said that he is married and she remarked “but you don’t know what goes on in it”. Hardy har har. Methinks I’ve been watching the “View” too much!!! This was off topic but I couldn’t resist telling my nightmare er dream.
December 7th, 2007 at 12:48 pm
May,
John Dean is very charismatic, smart and articulate. He has some great books out. I hope to get both for Christmas.
December 7th, 2007 at 12:54 pm
Holy Cow Aileen!! Too funny!
LMAO
I haven’t watched for awhile but I have been reading the recaps. Doesn’t sound like I missed much lately. Rosie’s name being mentioned on the view though is pretty big news. If BW and BG had their way I’m sure they’d like to brainwash everyone into thinking last year didn’t happen even though she was the best thing to happen to the show since…ummm… EVER!!!
December 7th, 2007 at 1:07 pm
Aileen, I really enjoyed your recap. You’re a very natural writer. I started reading it during Cusack’s interview and was only listening, not watching, and I ran over just in time to see Whoopi about to explode- just like you said! I also liked your lateral commentary. If you had a blog, I would read it.
December 7th, 2007 at 1:23 pm
Rainlillie, I believe I saw John Dean not too long ago being interviewed and his book was mentioned but I can’t remember what it was about. Must have been why my dream included him but I agree with you, he is very smart and to me was one of the heroes of his era!
December 7th, 2007 at 2:04 pm
Thanks Aileen. Your recaps are so funny. I really enjoy them.
I believe I have something close to the flu myself. So a very big thumbs up to you for being able to be so humorous, and taking the time to write your very good recap.
All I want to do is lay down.
And that’s what I’m going to go do.

I don’t own a tv - not because I can’t afford cable, but by choice. I’ve given it up for a year so I can learn a third language - and I rely on these posts to update me on the view. I could have been on today’s show. I’ve been fired from every job I’ve ever held. I never lasted a job for more than one year. I don’t know about Joy, but the reason I was given the boot was due to insubordination. In the end, I knew I had to start my own business (which I did at the age of 24 or 25).
The View and I were in sync again with the JC. I wrote a bit about Say Anything today.
My favorite quote from Aileen today was “fabulous commentator “NewLinda.”
December 7th, 2007 at 3:42 pm
May,
Deans books are:
“Conservatives Without Conscience.”
“Broken Government.”
“Worse Than Watergate.”
“he is very smart and to me was one of the heroes of his era!”
I agree.
December 7th, 2007 at 3:53 pm
Dee,
Thanks for the link. WOW! She didn’t even pretend to disagree with him. So many people benefited from Rosie being on the View. Faux News ran a story about her every night. The way they bashed her, you’d think she is the one responsible for getting us into this war.
EH wouldn’t even be on those lame entertainment shows if it weren’t for her fights with Rosie. Now whenever her name is mentioned they throw in Rosie’s name too. Rosie made a ton of money for the show and Disney.
Remember Bill (the sexual harasser) is a “friend of the show”, so it’s not surprising that BW didn’t take him to task.
December 7th, 2007 at 3:56 pm
“Remember Bill”
who falafel?
December 7th, 2007 at 4:01 pm
“O’REILLY: But I’m glad, I’m glad that the show’s calmed down.”
This is such a gross statement to me. In other words he’s glad that TBTB gave in to the Faux News bullies. Now women are talking about “women stuff,” not hard topics like the war and such.
As long as they cover it very lightly, everyone on the right is okay with that. God forbid they go into detail about the NIE report or any of the other scandals involving this administration. Joy could’nt even go into detail about the rapist yesterday.
December 7th, 2007 at 4:03 pm
New Linda,
LOL! I read the transcript from his case. It’s really strange. He’s into some weird stuff. In other words Bill is quite the freak.

if anyone can find it, please post it.

” like my men freaky.”
ROTFLAMO!! I’m not going to touch that.

December 7th, 2007 at 7:22 pm
Thanks for the link rainlillie (even though I wanted to gag)
Why didnt Barb correct BillOFalafel when he said ‘glad you got rid of her’. Didn’t Rosie quit?
Yeesh, Barb really sucked up to that windbag. Her and Rosie were supposedly good friends and she pretended to defend her while she was on the show but now that Rosie’s not she doesn’t stick up for her. What a phony. She just lost what shred of respect I had for her. Next time one of the hosts says something BillO doesn’t like and encourages a boycott of the View, I hope Barb looks back and reminisces about the wonderful interview she had with that gasbag.
As for today’s show:
I loved Ricki. She looks great! I enjoyed her contributions.
The John Cusak interview was good. I thought it was cute when Ricki said “I’ll be your date”. Good for her.
Good recap, Aileen!
December 7th, 2007 at 7:23 pm
Whoops…sorry - meant to say thanks to NewLinda for posting the link…:)

Aileen,
I hope everything turned out ok with your grandson. When they’re that age everything goes into the mouth. I would love to read your blog. I’m sure I’ll find it as entertaining as your recaps.
December 8th, 2007 at 11:13 am
Re: O’Reilly’s interiview with Babs —
I thought his pronouncement that The View is better now because it has “calmed down” was very very typical. It’s always interesting how effective a choice of words can be. “Calmed down.” Give me a break. Could he be more obvious? Or are there some viewers who don’t pick up on his code and who just subconsciously incorporate the dictum that’s behind it: Women shouldn’t *really* speak up too much, certainly not too loudly or untidily (with some exceptions, of course: Coulter, Malkin, EH …). Interesting also that he approves of The View now that it is in its most cowardly season. And isn’t he the one who is constantly labeling anyone who doesn’t come on his show to debate him a coward?
He spent A LOT of his time dissing Babs about the lameness of her choices for her special (e.g., Timberlake; Posh & Becks) when he could have asked her about Sherrie’s recent comments. And when she said she wanted to explain what Sherrie meant, he cut her off and said something like “anyone can make a mistake.” I thought defending Christians was one of his big concerns. Here was his chance, on his own show, where HE controls the agenda. Why didn’t he take it?
I’m VERY curious to know how the right-wing disinformation outlets have treated Sherrie’s comments. Have they by and large ignored her, have they come to her defense, have they spun it into a “liberal media twisting her words” story line? I’d love to know what anyone here has observed…. And, are there web sites that track these things?
(Hope all is well with you & yours, Aileen. And yes, your blog would be so fun to read…..)
December 8th, 2007 at 11:43 am
Hey Peaches,
I don’t know how the right wing parrots have responded to Sherri. Some people were saying she’s being bashed because of her religion, not because of her ignorance. I agree with your points about Bill. He just had BW on his show to try to add some credibility to his views about Rosie. He loves to pick on women. He’s too much of a coward to even mention Keith’s name on air.
December 8th, 2007 at 12:17 pm
Rain:
Oh, yes, the Rosie bashing was the cherry on top for Billo. Breaks my heart Babs played along. Infuriated that they are bosom buddies & go on each other’s show. I just didn’t mention it because I was focusing on how he tried to sweep Sherrie under the rug—not just her recent comments but her appearance in general on the show. I wonder what he thinks about her being there? Since part of their discussion was about the new season of The View, isn’t it odd he didn’t bring Sherrie up, but he did bring up Whoopi (with another dig at Rosie by saying that “he knew people” on the show who implied Whoopi is nicer to the crew than Rosie was)?
If you ever listened to (or were exposed to) Howard Stern’s old radio show you will be familiar with the clip he constantly played from his childhood, where his father would scream, “Shut up! Sit down! Shut up! Sit down!” all the time to him. The voice and words of the elder Mr. Stern ring in my head every single time I’ve hear Billo ranting & raving about Rosie. At a lower volume, it was the same when Tucker, Scarborough, etc., constantly beat the drums for ABC “to do something about her.”
December 8th, 2007 at 12:39 pm
The only thing Rosie has said about BW, that could be taken as “not too nice” is maybe she should retire. Other than that she’s always defending her on her blog.
I wonder if she’s going to stop defending her, now that Bw has gone on Bill’s show. I really do think Bill has a problem with women. I heard he was really mean to the female sidekick.
I really had a huge problem with women going along with the men that were bashing Rosie. It always seemed chauvinistic to me. That’s one of the MANY problems I also have with EH, her views are very anti-womans choice. Not just choice about their reproductive rights, but choice about anything independent from men.
IMO she has a very 1950’s attitude.
I cringed when she made that lame football analogy when she and Rosie were having a heated discussion.
December 8th, 2007 at 2:10 pm
“I cringed when she made that lame football analogy when she and Rosie were having a heated discussion”.
Rainlillie, I’m sure that her 3rd string QB hubby sat her down and gave her his analogy to use against Rosie. Her lawyer mom probably did the same with giving her talking points, not to mention producer Bill. At least we have a few more weeks with the know-it-all gone. I remember when Mr. Bill O’Rantandrave worked on a gossip show similar to “Entertainment Tonight” when he actually was nice. Boy did that change when he became more famous!
December 8th, 2007 at 3:04 pm
May,
The first time I heard of EH was when she was on the View, I’m not a fan of reality shows, therefore I’ve never watched them. There are conservatives that I happen to like, she’s just not one of them. As a matter of fact I think there’s a difference between Conservatives and people who support Bush. I like John Dean, and Bruce Fein just to name a few. I also like David Gergen.
I also remember Bill on that tabloid show. I use to listen to his radio show, until I realized that he isn’t really a “Independent.”
December 8th, 2007 at 4:12 pm
It’s my impression that EH’s mom isn’t a R. A while back she was on the view and revealed that people ask her how she raised such a conservative daughter and her response was i have no idea.
December 8th, 2007 at 4:39 pm
Elisabeths’s mom was on the view? I had no idea, I’d like to see the video of it but its probably not on youtube. I too heard her parents were “hippies” and that her brother is the polar opposite of her politically so I dont think she got those views from her family. Now her husband and his family are a different story.
December 8th, 2007 at 4:46 pm
LOL when Whoopi pulled away from Joy during hot topics after she almost sprayed her with perfume. Whoopi’s expression on her face was so hilarious!!
December 8th, 2007 at 6:12 pm
Yes, she was in the audience and they gave her the microphone. This was years ago.
EH says her husband is much more conservative than she is. That’s scary.
December 8th, 2007 at 8:51 pm
I found this sort of interesting. The conversation as to How E.H. got to be so conservative. Perhaps it doesn’t have much to do with her family or husband.
My parents are both Democrats, although not quite as liberal as some today. I have 5 brothers and sisters, 4 of which are Democrats, 2 VERY Liberal, and 2 sort of moderate democrats. A younger sister and I are both Conservative. Probably me more conservative than her.
My husband is an independent,.more democratic views.
So where did I learn to be so conservative??
IIt is interesting when yiou think about it.
December 8th, 2007 at 9:34 pm
Joy has said that she believes EH is conservative because she’s rebelling against her father. Her father has a “live and let live attitude” and perhaps EH wanted more structure in her life. EH’s response to that was “maybe. that could be it.”
Not one incident makes a person. So there are many reasons why EH is a conservative. Her father could be one reason, her catholic school upbringing is certainly a part, and her husband’s influence could also be a factor.
I believe that if EH’s husband was progressive she would be more tolerant. By tolerant I don’t mean that she wouldn’t be a R, but that she would respect others views and not feel that only hers were correct.
Sandy, you are conservative but you aren’t a EH conservative. There is a difference…a huge difference btwn the two of you.
December 8th, 2007 at 10:04 pm
Sherrie
wrong in every way
ABC made mistake
make her go away
December 8th, 2007 at 10:11 pm
I also would like to know more about how EH came to be conservative. I always got the impression that she is close with her parents, so I am surprised she doesn’t agree with them politically.
December 8th, 2007 at 10:34 pm
I’m going to give an example as to why I feel EH’s husband has a lot of influence on her.
Over the years, EH has given a different opinion on a woman changing her last name. The first few times I heard her talk about the subject she mentioned that when everyone shares the same last name there a stonger family unit is formed. And that was the reason she changed her name.
The last time I heard her talk about the subject what she had to say was vastly different and I had a physical reaction to it, which is why I remember it.
EH mentioned that her mother didn’t change her last name and she wouldn’t have either but she did because Tim told her that was important to him and she felt that if she didn’t change her last name he wouldn’t have married her. Joy turned to her and said, “of course he would have.” EH said “No, I don’t think he would have.”
From that point on, well…I was going to say I lost all respect for her but the truth is I never had any respect for her…so I’ll end this post here.
December 9th, 2007 at 1:34 am
New Linda,
You’ve made some excellent points. I’ve always believed, for some reason that her husband had a lot of influence on her.
December 9th, 2007 at 12:50 pm
Sandy, thats really interesting about your family. Obviously a lot of factors and individual experiences are involved in a person’s political views.
I guess what bugs me about EH is that she acts like she really despises people with really liberal views and its just disappointing when she has family members who also share some of those views. I would expect her to be a little more tolerant and open to other ideas given how close she says she is with her family.
December 9th, 2007 at 1:03 pm
Stephanie,
Rosie wrote on her blog once something like the EH that she has come to know was totally different than the way she was on TV. So maybe it’s just an act.
December 9th, 2007 at 2:20 pm
I wonder how Mr. and Mrs. EH feel about Mrs. bringing home the money to support her not so talented Mr.
December 9th, 2007 at 3:10 pm
Hmmm, I guess its possible she feels that thats her ‘role’ on the show and she needs to say certain things to represent perticular people…but when she was interviewed by Sean Hannity, I remember her saying something about not feeling like she has to make certain points but just saying things b/c thats what she truly believes.
December 9th, 2007 at 3:20 pm
Stephanie,
I have to agree with you. I think there are many factors and life experiences that help form who you are and your views in life may be.
I don’t think I could begin to explain why I tend to be more conservative.
Anyway I find it an interesting topic.
I do try to respect the views of others. And my own personal view is, I wouldn’t want everyone to think the same way,..politically I mean. I like that we have republicans and democrats, and independents as well. It helps keep things more on a moderate level. Or it is “suppose” to anyway. I don’t want our government to be more one sided.
As right now, the executive branch is too controlling. The congress is doing poorly in this area I think.
December 9th, 2007 at 3:28 pm
I don’t know Sandy, you may be a conservative Democrat. Come on over to the darkside.
December 9th, 2007 at 3:32 pm
I like E.H. myself,..at times i think she may come across more..?.. unaccepting of others views, than she really is.
I do think she she believes what she says, though.
December 9th, 2007 at 3:34 pm
New Linda,
Maybe so… I wouldn’t call it the dark side.
December 9th, 2007 at 3:42 pm
For some reason I think a lot of the pundits are fraud. I think they’re trying to play to a certain type. It’s their goal to keep people divided based on race, religion and sex.
December 9th, 2007 at 3:45 pm
I wanted to add each week they give their listeners a new group to hate. When people realize what’s going , these people will be out of business. It’s all about money to them. It’s like the old movie “A Face in The Crowd.”
December 9th, 2007 at 3:49 pm
“Hmmm, I guess its possible she feels that thats her ‘role’ on the show and she needs to say certain things to represent perticular people.”
I don’t think there’s anything authentic about her. I’ve always saw her as an opportunist. It doesn’t matter if she believes what she is saying or not. That doesn’t make it right.
December 9th, 2007 at 4:02 pm
I just found this website and really enjoyed reading all your comments.
Like Whoopi, I cringed when Sherri and Ricki carried on (and on) like grade school girls. Yes, Sherri brings a lot of “fun” to the program, however, it would be nice if she could adjust herself to the person that is being interviewed. For someone like Cusack, who is a serious actor and capable of in-depth converation, it’s a shame that they couldn’t pull themselves together. Although I always admire when someone can be put in an awkward situation and handle it as deftly as he did. He seemed very thoughtful and sincere while responding to their giddiness. I think that Ricki and Sherri were feeding off each other and that Sherri is, as she often says, one of those people that read those magazines. So she is probably just still in awe of the fact that she gets to meet all those people.

I think you’re right on that. I feel Whoopi and Sherri are at far spectrums: Whoopi seems disinterested at times and Sherri sometimes seems over enthusiastic. Now with Sherri I am sure many find it endearing but sometimes I find it to be too much. IMO, Rosie found that happy medium. She showed excitement and interest without being over the top or stand-offish. She made a great host.
I’d like to address the liberal/conservative issue before I sign off for the eve.
I find many times people grab onto their label and it becomes part of them. I feel that is true with EH. She is very adamant and forceful with the fact that she is a conservative and became a shining mouthpiece for the ‘typical’ conservative view. For me, I think if one would let loose of that tighthold of a label, we’d find we have more in common than we thought or were led to believe. I think the labels (liberal & conservative) actually tend to divide us and it then becomes an ‘us vs them’ mindset.
I also think the definitions are pretty screwed up. “Conservative” became synonymous with Christians, anti abortion, PRO war, patriotic, anti gay/gay rights, etc. “Liberals” became synonymous with godless, sinners, tree huggers, anti war, anti American, non patriotic, - you get the message. With EH, I think she grabbed onto the ideology of ‘conservatism’ and won’t let go. To be frank, I think it’s part of a character with her. I think she enjoys the attention from it, because she is the center of attention because of it. So she’s playing the part. It’s her badge and she wears it well.
Don’t get me wrong, I think someone can be a true conservative. However I am somewhat distrustful of people that constantly proclaim “I’m a __________”! Maybe some do it as a constant reminder to themselves, I don’t know. Words are not always necessary, nor is you pledging an allegiance to an ideal. Just BE. Actions speak louder anyway.

Stacee,
Concerning Liberal/Conservative. Very interesting, and I find I have to agree with the points you made.
Most especially I agree with. Just Be!!
Actions speak louder than words.

As Stacee said:
” It’s her badge and she wears it well.”
Ditto. I think what makes EH unique in this discussion of political labels is that her badge is also her ticket to ride—on TV, as a celeb. She’s become a star, or starlet, in the right-wing media’s pantheon. Since she doesn’t have any other entertainment skills or background, this is her way of extending not only her 15 minutes of fame from Survivor but parlaying it into other career opportunities. It is not a small thing that she was asked to speak at that GOP convention. Even if she wanted to lie low with her political affiliation, no matter what side of the aisle she may be, she now “can’t” really, as long as she wants to stay a media darling. Because this is what defines her. I personally think she must be thrilled with it—especially since her husband & his family are on the right. She must have garnered quite a few brownie points with them.
I’m one of those people who isn’t reluctant to proclaim that I’m a liberal/progressive. But a lot of it is because I’m so turned off by what this current crop of the right has been up to since 2000 that I flinch at being even remotely associated with them. And it’s been my own experience that sometimes if I don’t say anything at all, people like to assume I’m on the right side of things. So I have to speak up lest they misinterpret my silence as agrement. And also I am trying to do my bit toward making other people who are liberal/progressives not afraid to say so. I hope I am not mistrusted, but if I am … it’s a price I’m willing to pay. Also, I’ve noticed the center itself has moved so far right, that labels are a little tricky.
As for respecting other people’s views …. well, I have to say, that I do not. And I do not expect them to respect mine, either. If I think it is immoral to discriminate against gays, how can I say that I respect a viewpoint that does discriminate? I can’t. However, for my loved ones on the far right, I love them—in spite of their views. And I will definitely “agree to disagree” and change the topic and not badger them to agree with me. And I hope that they feel the same way toward me. But respect their views? No.
