The View December 8th Recap: Lisa Ling and Paula Abdul

by

Today on The View, all five hosts were present. Barbara Walters interviewed Patrick Swayze over the weekend. He has pancreatic cancer. He sent Whoopi Goldberg a hug. Then Barbara talked about her “fascinating” special and Joy mentioned the high ratings. Barbara said it was the highest rated since 2004. She said that everyone knew that Barack Obama would be the most fascinating. Sherri and Whoopi said they didn’t know. Then Barbara renamed some of the other people in the special, as though we forgot. Elisabeth said that she did not vote for Obama in the election, but voted for him for most fascinating. Then they showed the clip of Joy Behar’s appearance at the end of the special where she asked Barbara what she had to do to make the list. My favorite suggestion Joy had was “breastfeed Cha Cha.” Tom Cruise called her after the special, as did Will Smith.

Elisabeth tried to “get all Christmas-y” this weekend and make a gingerbread house with Grace. They showed a picture of it and Whoopi said it looked like the gingerbread projects. Joy said it is lopsided because there is a housing crisis. Elisabeth said it was pathetic because she has an industrial design degree. Whoopi said that her gingerbread cookie supplier died and she cannot find a good replacement. She likes the cookies chewy, but likes to set them out so they get a little crisper. Barbara said that on Wednesday they will bring her a selection of cookies to choose from.

The next topic was O.J. Simpson being sentenced to prison last Friday. A CNN analyst said that maybe the kidnapping charge was improper or an overcharge. Barbara said it is very hard to weep over O.J. Simpson and that a jury found him guilty based on the facts of the current case. Elisabeth wonders if it mattered that the jury was mainly female in terms of sympathy. Joy said that some people think it is karma that he was sentenced in this case on the anniversary of his acquittal in the other case. Sherri said that Simpson had such an ego to go into that room and do that. Shouldn’t he know that people would be watching him? Sherri said that the sentence was very long, though. Joy said it reminds her of Al Capone getting convicted of tax evasion when he had killed many people.

Then they talked about the ban on squeegee guys in NYC. Whoopi said that they could not find work and that is why they did it, noting that the former mayor did not have a lot of love for the homeless. Barbara said that sometimes they could find work and they would squeegee even if you said no. Joy said that sometimes they made her nervous. Elisabeth said she doesn’t mind the squeegee.

Sunny Van Bulow died after decades in a coma. Her husband Claus Van Bulow was convicted, then later acquitted in a retrial of her attempt murder. Whoopi said of course you know who interviewed Claus Van Bulow–Barbara. Whoopi said that is why she doesn’t want to get too rich; she doesn’t want that to happen to her what happened to Sunny Van Bulow.

Reverend Wright reportedly made a comment about Elisabeth in his sermon. Elisabeth said that he called her a dumb broad and that proves her point about what she has been saying all long. She said that for him to call her that because she disagreed with him is archaic and sexist. Barbara pointed out that he also called CNN and ABC the gates of hell. Sherri said that he should not have called her that and if he disagreed with her, he should say that they should pray for her. Elisabeth said that he called her a dizzy blonde, but he should know better that she is not a natural blonde.

Caroline Kennedy’s name keeps coming up to replace Senator Hillary Clinton. Joy said that she has never served in government, so maybe she does not have the chops to do it. Elisabeth wonders if there is a political gene that people are born better to serve the country than others. Sherri asked what qualifications Hillary Clinton had. Barbara said that she had to run and was not appointed. Whoopi pointed out that being the wife of a governor also gives you experience. Barbara said that Caroline Kennedy has raised a lot of money for education.

Paula Abdul appeared on the show to promote the new season of American Idol. Barbara asked her about the former contestant who committed suicide near Paula’s home and was apparently obsessed with Paula. Paula said that it was extremely tragic and a few months prior the woman tried to do the same thing in front of her home, but she survived. Paula knew her and the woman was a stalker/fan for about 17 years. It was not until she auditioned that she knew how to get in touch with Paula. She wants to sell her house, in part because of what happened.

There will be a fourth judge on the show this season. Paula said that Simon is the one starting the rumors that she does not get along with the new judge or that she is going to replace Paula. She already knew the woman because they used to be roommates and wrote songs together. She met her on the street and later let her move into her house with her.

Paula has a jewelry line which will debut this weekend on HSN. Her line also includes belts, bags, and fragrance. She then showed off several of the items.

Former View host Lisa Ling also appeared on the show. She is hosting the new CNN special “Planet in Peril: Battle Lines.” Barbara asked her about her husband, who is a doctor (he was in the audience). Lisa said that things are great, as did her husband. He said that her travel is tough, but what she does is so important. Joy said that he is cute.

They showed a clip from the special which was about the shark population, which has declined by more than 50% in the last 15 years. When sharks disappear, ecosystems change and fishing industries can collapse. Lisa said that the number of people who are killed by sharks is very small in comparison to how many sharks are killed by humans. The major culprit is for shark fin soup. The shark is killed and the fins removed and the body thrown back into the ocean.

Lisa also investigated a militant group in Nigeria, which is the fifth largest supplier of oil to the United States. The groups have been attacking pipelines because the average person there does not see any of the money from the exports. They special airs Thursday on CNN.

  1. Roger from Ohio Says:

    *cross thread post*

It was really interesting on The View today….

I heard on Friday that Caroline Kennedy was being suggested to be given the Senate seat that Hillary Clinton will be vacating. I wrote a little opinion, but didnt post it on here…. Now that it was discussed, I think Ill post it here as well.

They are talking about Caroline Kennedy taking over the NY Senate seat after Hillary becomes Secretary of State. My question is just how is she qualified? What experience does she have that would qualify her to help to run this country? Yes she has relatives that were great men and politicians. She is famous because of who her family is.
When she came out and endorsed Barack Obama, she said that she is going to back him because her children wanted her to. She wont have that privilege in the Senate…. she will have to make the decision on her own.
I know it sounds harsh, but shouldnt we have someone that is qualified instead of someone that had the right relatives. Didnt we learn anything from the Bush family?

  2. susieq Says:

I wonder if Sean Hannity will come to Elisabeth’s defense tonight? Bill Geddie probably loves Rev. Wright mentioning Elisabeth. Anything to keep the View in the news is good for ratings, right?

  3. red Says:

well they mentioned Rev. Jeremiah Wright dissing Elisabeth lol. At first they didn’t even bother to quote him exactly and later on they kind of did- in a half-assed way. He was too kind to her in my opinion. I’m now waiting for Ayers to diss her. lol

  4. red Says:

    @susieq

you beat me to it :)

So basically Elisabeth is doing what Rosie did. She wants to criticize and attack and then not expect the other person to fight back.

  5. wendee Says:

While I do not necessarily disagree with Rev. Wright’s comments, it seems to me that just mentioning her gives her way to much credence and publicity. I just don’t think she should be brought up at all like this in a sermon…. aren’t there real issues and real problems and real people we should be worrying more about than Elisabeth Hasselbeck?

  6. May Says:

Winnie, You sure do get the info of today’s “View” out in a hurry..boy you do a great job!
Roger from Ohio: I agree with you about Caroline Kennedy taking Hillary’s senate seat with little experience. I like her and adored her dad but I still think of her as the little girl of yore. There must be many women(or men) with more experience. Maybe later. IMHO.
Poor Lizard, Rev Wright spoke against her. That is what happens, EH, when you spout off about someone. They are likely to do the same thing to you, dumbo! Bleached blond or not, you ARE a ditsy person and MEAN to boot!

  7. susieq Says:

If I remember correctly, before Hillary announced her Senate run, there were rumblings about JFK Jr. possibly running. He was a lot younger and inexperienced than Caroline is now. I’m surprised the panel didn’t mention JFK Jr. Wait a minute, no I’m not surprised.

  8. mibi Says:

I have some collegue who are strong christians who were angry or maybe just disapppoint that Pe Obama did not “stick with” the church mostly and wrigth second. They feel it bad form. I dont get it.

But it was funny to me eh that would say we just disagree you dont have to call me names ( which is true and she is correct) when she did the same to someone else a week ago.

The lisa ling video with the sharks ( which reminds me of a video with dolpins) makes me want to try being a vegaterian.

Oh and people calling caroline kenndeny palinesque for wanting the senate postion when she has not nessicarily shown the chops is mean to both but the point is good

  9. Sandy Says:

    Thanks Winnie,

I did watch Barb’s special, I had no doubt that P.E. Obama would be the most fascinating person of the year.
I got a kick out of Joy’s appearance at the end. Laughter is good for my soul, and I did laugh.

    Elisabeth’s gingerbread house…well..
They are not easy to do. A few months ago I and my granddaughter made a house that is in Rosie’s Crafty U book. It wasn’t gingerbread, but similar, using graham crackers. It was NOT easy, and took some patience, and time. We got it done. I am proud to say that it looked better than Elisabeth’s attempt. I do give her credit for trying.

O.J…I do think that the charges and sentence were a little high, but, like Barb said, It is hard to have sympathy for him.
There is something to be said for karma, I think.

Rev. Wright…Certainly he is entitled to his opinions. However I don’t think he expressed his opinions at the right place.
I would not want my paster or preacher to give those kind of personal opinions from the pulpit.

Caroline Kennedy. I’m not sure if she has the qualifications to be a senator, or not. I honestly don’t know enough about what she has and has not done, and what her education is. I’d have to know much more before I made that decision.

I liked some of Paula’s jewelry.

It was nice to see Lisa again. Her special sounds very interesting.

  10. rainlillie Says:

“My question is just how is she qualified?”

How was Hilliary qualified to run for the Senate when she ran?

“Kennedy is an attorney, editor, writer and member of the New York and Washington, D.C. bars. She is one of the founders of the Profiles in Courage Award, given annually since 1990 to a person who exemplifies the type of courage examined in her father’s Pulitzer Prize-winning book of the same name. The award is generally given to elected officials who, acting in accord with their conscience, risk their careers by pursuing a larger vision of the national, state or local interest in opposition to popular opinion or powerful pressures from their constituents. In May 2002, she presented an unprecedented Profiles in Courage Award to representatives of the NYPD, the New York City Fire Department, and the military as representatives of all of the people who acted to save the lives of others during the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001.[4]

From 2002 to 2004, Kennedy worked as chief executive for the Office of Strategic Partnerships for the New York City Department of Education. During this time, she helped raise more than $65 million for the city’s public schools. [5] She currently serves as the Vice Chair of The Fund for Public Schools, a public-private partnership founded in 2002 to attract private funding for public schools in New York City. [6]

In addition, Kennedy is currently President of the Kennedy Library Foundation,[3] a director of both the Commission on Presidential Debates and the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, and Honorary Chairman of the American Ballet Theatre. She is also an adviser to the Harvard Institute of Politics, a living memorial to her father.”

  11. rainlillie Says:

“I honestly don’t know enough about what she has and has not done, and what her education is. I’d have to know much more before I made that decision.”

    Great point Sandy,
She has lived a very quiet life and has accomplished a great deal. I had no idea she had achieved so much. As a New Yorker I would love to have her as my Senator.

  12. rainlillie Says:

    #11. You’re welcome.

  13. NanC Says:

Wonder if TLB ever heard of the “pot calling the kettle black”, how DARE she critize Wright for his comments by saying because he didn’t agree with her, that his comments were archaic and sexist. She can defame all she wants, with BW offering hugs but……do not say anthing about me. BTW, whoever looks at EH know she is NOT a true blonde with her black roots always showing, very obvious. Is she trying to put words in Wright’s mouth. She has not a professional nor intellectual bone in her body.

WHY…….. I ask myself do I still watch, today it was to see Lisa Ling & wish she were still on, but…she has far too much intelligence, thankfully she is doing so well with her great documentaries.

  14. Sandy Says:

    # 10 & 12 rainlillie,
I second the THANKS for the information about Caroline Kennedy. I had no idea either that she has accomplished so much.

  15. Vegas Says:

I didn’t know about Rev. Wright making comments about Elisabeth over the weekend. Isn’t it something how insulted she was by his calling her a dumb broad, and yet, she still won’t acknowledge her inaccurate comments about Michelle Obama having to ‘hide’ things when she was a guest on The View. Is this BROAD for real? Does she not realize what a hypocrite she is?! And for Barbara to give her a few moments to address Rev. Wrights comments about her is absurd. She actually asked what gives him the right to call her dumb when all she ever did was ‘disagree’ with him? Oh is that all she did? @@

Anyway.. her story about Grace and the gingerbread house.. another attempt at appearing like a hands on parent, and yet, she made a point to say how she wouldn’t actually bake the gingerbread herself. I have seen those pre fab gingerbread houses at Michaels that she said she bought. They are disgusting and full of artificial flavors and preservatives. Maybe she should think about that rather than insinuating that actually making homemade gingerbread is outrageous.

Paula Abdul.. she wasn’t loopy at all. She looked and sounded great. Her jewelery looked nice too.

Lisa Ling.. she has such gorgeous hair, but every time she is on, Elisabeth acts like she is superior to her. Don’t you just love how she tells her ‘GOOD JOB’ as if Lisa need that idiots approval for the remarkable work she has been doing since leaving The View. Lisa new hubby is so handsome. What a nice couple.

Barbara was extra annoying today. Her boring stories about celebs that call her on her cell phone. She seems to need extra reassurance that she is fabulous. Always talking about herself. And I find it sickening how the ladies cater to her ego. It’s ridiculous.

Sherri didn’t really say much today. She may as well not have been there.

  16. Roger from Ohio Says:

    #10 rainlillie–

How was Hilliary qualified to run for the Senate when she ran?

Im sure you know the credentials that Hillary Clinton had then and has now…. no need to repeat what you already know….. The key point to your statement is, she RAN for the senate. The senate wasnt given to her by the people in power…. she won that seat by a majority of the people of NY voting for her.

It sounds like she is pretty impressive in the Education department. That is great. My problem, all of the things that you stated as reasons that she should be given the NY senate seat… I didnt see 1 thing that showed any leadership experience.
An ambassadorship would help her to get that experience, or maybe help President Obama to improve Education throughout the whole country like she has in NYC.

Experience is what is needed now… not more nepotism

  17. Roger from Ohio Says:

I can understand why EH would be upset because she was called a “broad” Im sure she doesnt want to be “disparaged” incorrectly…. she is more like a “bimbo” than a “broad”. EH uses her sexuality more than she uses her intelligence. She fails miserably at both if you dont mind me saying.

  18. rainlillie Says:

    Roger,
I’m not sure what the proper procedure is when someone leaves the senate. All I know is Mrs. Kennedy is just as qualified as Hilary was when she ran. By the way Hilary hasn’t done such a bang up job for my state IMO.

  19. red Says:

Hillary Clinton aside, what about other people are perhaps more qualified like for example Carolyn Malony. Why should they be over-looked because of Caroline Kennedy’s last name. Kennedy is a smart woman and her resume from what i’ve read here is impressive but there are people better suited and more directly involved in politics who should be given the opportunity. And after all, the person that takes the job will have to campaign to hold it in two years. Like Roger said Caroline Kennedy has never run for anything.

  20. Roger from Ohio Says:

I totally agree with Whoopi…. yes I know it is rare.

They “piled on” when they charged him. What they said was…. telling people to sit down and shut up is the same thing as grabbing someone, putting them in the back of a van and selling them for ransom.

I dont think it is the same thing….. He should have been tried for assault and conspiracy to using a gun.(or whatever those legal charges would be)
OJ didnt have a gun…. the people that testified against OJ did have a gun…. I dont believe the gun toting people are going to jail.

  21. rainlillie Says:

No one can run for the seat until 2010. Until that happens a replacement will be chosen not elected by Governor Paterson.

“The task of choosing a successor falls to David Paterson, New York’s Democratic governor. Whomever he picks would serve for two years, before a special election in November 2010 to decide who fills the last two years of Clinton’s term.”

  22. Roger from Ohio Says:

    #7 Susieq–

I’m surprised the panel didn’t mention JFK Jr. Wait a minute, no I’m not surprised.

I heard over the weekend, that JFK Jr. said he didnt want to be considered for the seat. It was implied that he backed away from the seat so there wouldnt be a “family fight” for the position.

Im not sure if that is the true reason…. you know how much those talking heads love their drama.

  23. susan brown Says:

I hope I don’t get edited - but tuff shit, Elisabeth!!! Calling people terrorist, telling all the lies you told, so much mud slinging you did is coming back to bite you. It is called Karma. You had is coming and I’m very happy I get to see and hear about it.

  24. Kimberly Says:

Elisabeth has more class than all of the other ladies. Everybody picks on her because of her conservative views. News flash– this great country is full of them.

  25. marthe Says:

Lol, the producers of this show are such geniuses, not. Right before Paula Abdul comes out to plug her jewelry collection, they give the audience certificates for a different jewelry line.

I was confused how bitsy got to Massachusetts blue laws from the oj trial. And what her point was.

bitsy calling out Wright for referring to a dumb blonde and that such name-calling was inappropriate just because she disagrees with him? This is the woman who called Gloria Steinem evil and people like Susan Sarandon should leave the country.

I thought in a group shot bitsy’s hair actually looked pretty good; with the black sweater she was channeling Elizabeth Montgomery. When they got to the couch, though, I at first thought she was wearing knee socks [per bg's request].

Some say Kennedy would be good b/c she has Obama’s ear and her name would bring out voters in 2010. Some say she’s not ballsy enough. Others say she would just be warming the chair until Chelsea Clinton is old enought to run.

I think if you have a certain level of intelligence and intellectual curiosity, you get yourself up to speed very quickly.

  26. Roger from Ohio Says:

    #25 Kimberly–

Elisabeth has more class than all of the other ladies. Everybody picks on her because of her conservative views.

Im sorry Kimberly, but you are incorrect. People point out when EH is wrong not because she is a conservative, but because she lies and smears.
Most conservatives that I talk to are intelligent, and are respectful when they vocalize their views. When anyone, liberal or conservative, vocalize their views then cant back them up with facts or instead, turn the question around and attack the other side… those people will be “picked on” every time.

If Elisabeth would use her intelligence instead of talking points….. she would be given more respect.

Just like George Bush…. Elisabeth has earned her criticism.

  27. diane10 Says:

I think everyone on that panel has earned their criticism.

  28. June Says:

Hey Roger re: #23 I think you mean RFK Jr.
    _______________________________
Aside from that-the whole show was wierd today except for Lisa Ling’s segment, which I liked.

I’m gonna say it again, will someone please tie down BWs maniquin hands! :)

  29. Stacee Says:

FROM THE RECAP: “Elisabeth said that he called her a dumb broad and that proves her point about what she has been saying all long.”

MY RESPONSE: Whaaaa??? That’s not what he said. He made reference to a “dizzy broad on the View”. Why did she spin that? Is she deliberately lying?

  30. Stacee Says:

    Correction:

FROM THE RECAP: “Elisabeth said that he called her a dumb broad and that proves her point about what she has been saying all long.”

MY RESPONSE: Whaaaa??? That’s not what he said. He made reference to a “dizzy BLONDE (not broad”) on the View”. http://www.chicagobreakingnews.com/2008/12/reverend-jeremiah-wright-trinity-united-baptist-church-chicago-obama.html Why did she spin that? Is she deliberately lying?

  31. Gayle Says:

Hello! Does anyone know where to send the gingerbread Woopi requested? I’ve had people tell me about it, but I can not seem to find it on the website. Thank you! Gayle

  32. Barly Says:

roger,(if thats your name) why are you on a mostly women site? so you can be a BULLY? go home to mama.. and leave eliz. alone..just because she has her opin. you hate it.. get a life..Kennedy can do just as good as hc.I think anyone can..

  33. Stacee Says:

This is a site for people that want to discuss the View and other things. If you don’t like Roger’s presence here, perhaps it is you that should “go home”.

  34. marthe Says:

I just did a hasselbeck google news search and came up with this story on her brother-in-law calling the quarterback he lost a super bowl to a girl.

    You said:
“”Elisabeth has more class than all of the other ladies. Everybody picks on her because of her conservative views. News flash– this great country is full of them.”"

IMNSHO EH’s biggest problem is her total LACK of any class. She cannot/will not listen to any view but her own borrowed ones & if this is what you term her “conservative views” then please do not insult other people by saying:
“”News flash– this great country is full of them.”"

  36. Roger from Ohio Says:

    #32 Barly–

why are you on a mostly women site? so you can be a BULLY? go home to mama.. and leave eliz. alone

What does my gender have to do with pointing out your hate and lies? I dont care what your gender is…. all I know is you are a hater and liar…. you cant back yourself up…. you cant defend your views (if they are really yours)

There isnt anything that I say on this blog that I wouldnt say to your face…. your thoughts and ideas were tried the last 8 years….. they failed…. it is time to correct the problems that your ilk has caused. It is time to make America great again.

    one more thing… I am home… thanks.

  37. Kelly Says:

Winnie says: “Elisabeth said that he called her a dumb broad and that proves her point about what she has been saying all long. She said that for him to call her that because she disagreed with him is archaic and sexist.”

    Elisabeth says:

“Whats-his-face, glitter glasses…go burn some incense.” About Deepak Chopra

“I’m sure Jeffrey Dahmer started out eating peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.” About Rev. Wright

“…she has nothing to hide…unlike some people who shall remain nameless.” About Michelle Obama

The troops over there are “protecting her freedom to run her mouth…which in my mind is evil, pure evil.” About Gloria Steinem

    BUT DON’T CALL ELISABETH A DUMB BROAD…

    oookaaay

  38. Kelly Says:

I’m heartbroken over Patrick Swayze. I’ve watched Dirty Dancing more times than I can count – we even vacationed this year at Mountain Lake Resort in Virginia during Dirty Dancing Weekend– the location of most of the film.

The chef is the same chef that was there during filming – and he said Bud (Patrick Swayze) was such a great guy. He hung out with the staff, had some beers with the chef, rode down the mountain on the chef’s bike (very winding, steep,) too fast, scared and holding on tight to the chef.

Patricks’s such a talent. I am so sorry he and Lisa never had children. We need to push for stem cell preservation in umbilical cords. Anyone having a baby – keep your cord – make plans ahead of time. The hospitals will steal them.

    Anyway, I pray for Patrick.

I highly recommend Mountain Lake Resort for the clean-air, cabin retreat for the soul.

My son is pictured here in front of the Tee-Pee (scroll down):
    http://www.mountainlakehotel.com/Section_Home.asp?SID=36

He’s so cute – Sweet baby boy.

  39. NanC Says:

Well said #37 Kelly, well stated!!!

  40. Stacee Says:

    Kelly, your son is adorable!
And thanks for posting your thoughts about Patrick Swayze.

  41. berndoubt Says:

#31 and that, Stacee, proves that Elisabeth is a liar and a hypocrite.

  42. Kelly Says:

Thanks NanC & Stacee (he looks like his papa)

  43. Kimberly Says:

I just feel that the liberal bias is sooo obvious on that show. Elisabeth can sometimes come off as shrill because she is just trying to get a word in edgewise. I give her a lot of credit for hanging in there. They need more balance on that panel. Another conservative to help back her up. It’s so lopsided now, it makes me crazy! But, I do tune in!

  44. Diane Says:

Kelly #37 - excellent recap on Elizabeth Hasselbeck’s clear on-TV record of name calling and demeaning of people that she disagrees with….

Yo, Kimberly ? Did ya get that ?

  45. Barly Says:

I’m with you Kim they do need some one else on the show to make more BALANCE..and talking about name calling what are you people doing? you should be ashamed of yourselfs..and that roger I pretty sure its a woman hiding behide a mans name..ELIZABETH is one of the bravest perons I have ever seen being on T.V. and having to go though that day after day..but that’s what happens when people can’t HANDLE THE TRUTH!! trust me she will come out on top..

  46. Lopez Says:

    ELIZABETH maybe. Elisabeth is not.

  47. Barly Says:

pick, pick, pick, is that all y’all know what to do? Just put yourselfs in her shoes for awhile..she is doing what she is suppose to do..and doing great at it or y’all wouldn’t be talking about her..you all make me sick at my stomach..how can you sleep at night?

  48. Lopez Says:

    #47 - huh?

  49. Kimberly Says:

Joy is very vocal and snarky sometimes. But, I guess that’s o.k. because her views are more popular? Joy sometimes makes me want to hurl something at the television. Not everybody embraces the views of the Democrats. That’s all I’m trying to get across. It’s not a given that everybody can’t stand Elisabeth. She is no more snarky than those other ladies, IMO. But, she sure gets some people fired up! It’s interesting…

  50. Phillip Says:

All I can say is, wow. How can you SMEAR someone for at least three months, during the course of the campaigns, and he finally calls you out on it, then it’s, “Oh, I’m so offended”. Go cry into the crap kool-aid you’re so insistent on drinking every morning, Elisabeth.

  51. Kimberly Says:

    Wow.

  52. diane10 Says:

All of the women on The View have been stuffing their political views down our throats in one way or another all during the election. Elisabeth’s tactics are often times inappropriate because she doesn’t do her homework to back up her allegations. The same can be said for Joy, Sherri, Babs and Whoopi.

People dedicated to this blog have had a long term dissatisfaction with Elisabeth long before the election. Since I am relatively new to this, I am not quite sure where and when the total divide occurred but it is rampant as anyone can see. For me, I find that all of them need to let up on the election and settle into what we have at hand and support it.

All of them need to be replaced. Sorry, Roger, I know you are in love with Joy but she really is too old for you.

  53. Lajet Says:

Count me as a NYer that questions the appoitnment of Caroline Kennedy. Yes, there are others inthe Senate less qualified. But they WON elections. They did the campaigning. Caroline wants/would avoid all that and just waltz into one of the most prestigious clubs.
I think she is a very bright, competent and compassionate adult. That puts her ahead of a lot of Senate members. But htere are others in New York who are bright, cojmpetent, compassionate AND experienced.
Caroline has no experience campaigning. Not really. She grew up in a “political family” but only sort of. Jackie kept her distance from the rest of the cousins. Not totally - but they weren’t as involved as some of the other cousins were with each other. She didn’t grow up with her dad. Jackie was definitely not politically inclined - she wanted to get away from the Kennedy’s (not saying she hated them, just didn’t buy the whole lifestyle thing that others in the extended family bought into.)
She’s a lawyer, but I don’t think she has ever practiced law, so that only counts as passing an IQ tests of sorts (and I’ll grant you she is bright and well-educated.) Her business experience is more of the volunteer variety - sitting on boards, etc. It speaks well of her values, but not exactly the same thing as business experience.
I’ve never ever heard of her having any interest in politics prior to this. She doesn’t campaign - didn’t even really campaign for Obama - just endorsed him.
New York could do a whole lot worse than Caroline. I like Caroline (well, what I know of her she seems to be an admirable person.) But there are others in New York who would be better picks.

Note: Her cousin Robert may not have had much more experience - but he campaigned and won. People’s choice. Andrew Cuomo is also mentioned and he has some excellent experience. There are others who are lesser known by well-respected in Albany. Caroline is an unknown in political terms.

#46..Barly…Funny you should mention Roger/Ohio hannging out on this blog…which
he/she has the right to do. I always thought
    Roger femme myself.

  55. Roger from Ohio Says:

    Barly, notimpressed–

you cant beat me in debate…. so you resort to name calling and accusations. Now Im a chick?
I guess I could be more crass…. a little more insulting…. I could use threats and smack my chest a few times…. would that be less “femme” for you?
If thats what it takes… threats… accusations… joke about death and destruction…. get my hands all bloody by huntin and stuff…. If thats what it takes to be a man in your eyes…. Sarah Palin would have been a great man.

  56. Roger from Ohio Says:

    I just peeked…. there are 3 choices…. Im male… a deformed female… or I have a tumor.

Lets hope it is the first one.

Im not sure why your gender should be insulting to me Barly, notimpressed…. maybe you could clarify it for me. Why do you think so low of yourselfs?

Oh… since u seem to be concerned…. I just took the garbage out.

  57. diamondlil Says:

    Roger:
You are way too funny….you and Joy would make quite a team! Don’t let BW interview you on that subject.

  58. msroncon Says:

It’s no surprise that EH can’t get her news right.

OJ did not have a gun. Yes, I think the kidnapping charge was much, and I do believe that he had the book thrown at him because of the other case.

    Anyway, again EH…..ding dong.

  59. msroncon Says:

Also, Rev. Wright should be ashamed of himself. Why his congregation still sits there is beyond me.

In regards to the sharks, that disgusted me worse. It is sick and barbaric and I hope that there will be a way for this to end.

  60. Catherine Says:

It was great to see Paula Abdul on the show today and sorry to learn she had a stalker who killed herself near her home. That is scary. I was wondering, though, was something wrong inside her mouth? It seemed that maybe she had some dental work or something because she did not speak very well.

  61. msroncon Says:

Roger from Ohio….right on!!! (msroncon from Ohio)

Lajet, I totally agree. Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg does not have the political experience.

Although, many of the people that are in office are already bought and sold by others to get what they want. Maybe someone with less experience like people say about Obama, would work.

Who knows……I’m sick of politics for now.

  62. rainlillie Says:

    “But they WON elections.”

Anyone who takes Hilary’s seat is going to be appointed. They can’t run until 2010. P-e Obama assigned Caroline one of the most important jobs during his campaign. She seemed to worked behind the scenes and I’m totally confident in her qualifications.

If you look at Hilary’s resume and Caroline’s they are very similar. Some say it’s all name recognition, the same argument can be made about Hilary during her senate run.

  63. diane10 Says:

#61 Catherine I cannot put my finger on what is wrong with Paula Abdul in terms of her speech. Since she is the same way all of the time one would think she is on some type of daily medication. She is often childlike in the way she expresses herself. Pauls swears she does not take any medication but who knows? Her inability to be articulate is bewildering…

  64. Stacee Says:

She says she has a neuropathic disorder, which makes her experience debilitating pain.

I do find it hard to believe that she is not using pain medication. I think that may be the cause of her sometimes strange behavior.
I know that some pain meds affect speech and behavior. Someone close to me experiences this. This person takes the meds and will start to slur words, appear rather sleepy and act incredibly loopy. This person will also emphatically deny that they are acting like that.

I don’t really like Paula but I empathize with her and her struggles with pain.

  65. diane10 Says:

I do remember hearing that she had a disorder which should require some type of medication. Perhaps that is what is affecting her speech. And, she does act loopy at times….and denies it.

Not a fan of hers either but I, too, emphathize with her.

Great…now she wants to be on “dancing with the stars.”

  66. Stacee Says:

diane10 Says: “I do remember hearing that she had a disorder which should require some type of medication. ”

MY RESPONSE: Exactly. And she said she was taking medication, then opted out of taking them and would just live with the pain.

I think this was back in 2005-2006 or so, so it may be that she’s back on now or that her condition has improved — I don’t know. But yes, those are things that could affect her speech and odd behavior.

I did not see her on the show yesterday, but I do hope she is doing well and that her pain is managed so that she is cofortable.

You peeked, so you must know what you are!!
You say we can’t beat you at debate? I don’t
recall ever engaging in one with you. It
would simply be a waste of my time.

Do I think so low of myself??? NEVER, I have
too much self-esteem. Your rambling is simple and does not make much sense at least to me. Ramble on!!!!

    HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!!!

  69. Pat Says:

I am sorry to hear about your gingerbread cookie supplier. I know what it’s like to loose a flavor that you have grown to love over the years. Here is my very own Gingerbread Cookie Recipe. 1 Tbls. Ginger
    1 Tbls. Cinnamon
    1 Tbls. Baking Powder
