The View February 24th Recap: Tom Jones

by

tom-jonesToday on The View it was Barbara Walters as moderator again, as Whoopi Goldberg is still in the process of driving home from Los Angeles on her bus. Barbara made sure to point out that the song they walked out to was Tom Jones. Whoopi e-mailed the hosts a photo of a dog saying that she still looks good despite the partying and travel.

The first topic was the Octo-mom and the fact that she got into a videotaped argument with her mother about whether she should have used all the embryos to make 14 children. Her mother questions how she will be able to raise them. Sherri said she can’t get over how much she looks like Angelina Jolie. Joy thinks she should be called “Octo-lips.” Elisabeth said that she is just a few weeks post-birth and is likely far from rational and exhausted. She thinks that all the attention on her right now will affect her emotional state.

Barbara said the big question is whether you have frozen embryos if you really need to use them all. Sherri said that this where she and the Octo-mom agree because she has three frozen embryos herself. If you don’t use them, you can either donate them or they will be destroyed. She calls the embryos her three sons and she will pay every year to keep them. Joy said that by having the eight children Octo-mom is destroying the lives of the other six kids. Barbara asked Sherri if she would implant all three at once and risk having triplets. Sherri said that at her age she will probably be advised to implant all three. Joy asked why it is more important to save an embryo than a living child’s life. She said there is no concern about whether the child will grow up in poverty and be abused. Elisabeth said that a statement like that places value on the judgment on someone’s life based on their financial situation. Barbara said that you have to think of the sanctity of the child being born and there are other considerations. Elisabeth said that if we were to abort children because they are going to be poor or have a defect would create a superhuman race. Joy disagreed, saying that there will always be naturally stupid people. Elisabeth said you have to be careful and it is a scary thing.

A man has come forward requested a DNA test, wanting to know if his sperm was used for the Octo-mom’s children. His wife is now angry because if it is proven that the 14 kids are his, he could be on the hook for child support. Sherri said that she would be so mad if her husband did that. The Octo-mom has said that she did not want to give up the children because she would want to know where her children have gone. Joy said that you never hear men wondering where their donated sperm will go. Elisabeth said it is different after you have carried a child to term.

Rupert Murdoch issued a statement in which he said that he is ultimately responsible for what happens in the Post. He wanted to personally apologize to anyone who was offended by the cartoon last week. Barbara thought it was good that he did that. Sherri said that he apologized after people were encouraging a boycott and John Legend took out a full page ad about it. Joy asked if she was questioning Murdoch’ motivation. Elisabeth said that he also promised to be in tune with the sensitivity of the community. Sherri said that sounds like rhetoric and wonders what he is really going to do about it. Joy said that what has been largely ignored in the cartoon is the fact that it depicted a presidential assassination and you can get investigated by the FBI for making threats on the life of the president. Barbara said if you send it in the mail.

Barbara’s SIRIUS radio show won a Gracie award given to women in the media. Elisabeth sucked up to Barbara about it and Joy reminded her that she has the job. Elisabeth joked that she wanted a raise.

The next topic was whether grammar critics will be paying close attention to Barack Obama’s speech tonight. Barbara said that it bothers both her and Joy when he misuses grammar and says “Michelle and me,” rather than Michelle and I. Sherri said that she does not really care if he misuses words, she wants to know that we are going to get out of the economic problems that the country is in. Elisabeth said that people criticized George Bush and Sarah Palin or their poor grammar choices like “You betcha.” Joy said that the “you bectcha” was not a grammar thing, but a personality thing with the winking. Joy also gets annoyed when people say “I feel badly,” when you should say “I feel bad.”

Sherri gave a shout-out to a woman in Kansas City who got shot by her boyfriend, but was not hurt because the bullet got stopped by her weave.

The next segment featured CNN Chief Business Correspondent Ali Velshi to talk about the Stimulus Package. He said that people are not spending money, so the government is putting money into the economy to replace what we are not spending. The package is made up of 26.9% tax cuts, 33.9% spending (like infrastructure projects), and 39.1% safety net (includes more food stamps, unemployment and COBRA). The government is issuing bonds to raise the money for the package. China owns the most U.S. bonds. People will be seeing $20 extra in their paycheck.

The housing plan includes help for people in a little trouble (refinancing help) and a lot of trouble (mortgage modification). You qualify for refinancing if you are not behind in payments, you have a conforming mortgage, your mortgage is not worth more than 5% of the value of your home, and your mortgage is insured by either Freddie Mac or Fannie Mae. To qualify for the mortgage modification, you have to be at risk or defaulting on your mortgage, you can be “underwater” on your mortgage by up to 50% and you have to prove that you can keep make payment on the new version of the loan.

Obama’s speech will set out the priorities for the government and will amount to a “mini-State of the Union.” Joy asked what all the pork the Republicans are talking about is. Velshi said that was in the original draft of the package and included things that people thought woud not stimulate the economy and that has been taken out. There are also worries that the new budget has too many earmarks. Joy said that it only a small part and Elisabeth said it depends on who you talk to.

Elisabeth asked about how they will sort out who lost their job or got in a tricky mortgage and could not make payments, versus those people that started excessively spending. Velshi said that a lot of people are concerned about that and the best way to help those people who did the right thing is to put a floor in the falling housing market, which will bring the value of everyone’s property back up.

He thinks that things are going to get worse and then will get better, with significant improvement a year from now.

Tom Jones appeared on the show to promote his new album “24 hours.” He has been having recurring nightmares where he has done something wrong like killing someone and he wakes up sweating. Joy said that he is in menopause. Jones thinks that the dream is that he has a fear of being locked up and unable to do what he wants to do.

Jones once took a shower and Elvis Presley came in because he wanted Jones to hear a song he had written. He joked that Presley was checking him out.

He said that the album is reflective of his personality and has a wide variety of music styles. He co-wrote most of the songs. He has been married to his wife since he was 16 years old and one of the songs on the album is a love song/relationship song where he puts his cards on the table.

Jones said that there was a rumor on the internet that he had died and he was able to read his obituary. His son Mark is his manager and he helped his career alive. Barbara asked him about wearing tight pants. Joy said “there is a reason that Elvis was looking over the shower stall.” Jones said that the sex symbol part comes from the voice and the talent, which is what you gets on stage. He said that there are plenty of good looking guys walking around, but they won’t be successful without talent.

He then sang “Give a little love” and “It’s not unusual.”

I love Tom Jones! I remember watching the Tom Jones show with my great-grandma when I was a kid and she would just ooh and ahh over him! He is still a good looking man I will take my lunch hour early just to watch him!

  2. Kelly Says:

Anyone think The View will address Rupert Murdoch’s apology (The Jerry Springer of Right-Wing FOX Media)?

Rupert Murdoch released a statement in the pages of the NY Post on Tuesday, saying in part, “I am ultimately responsible.”

Murdoch was responding to the uproar after last week’s controversial stimulus cartoon, for which the paper had already semi-apologized.

    The statement in full:

As the Chairman of the New York Post, I am ultimately responsible for what is printed in its pages. The buck stops with me.

Last week, we made a mistake. We ran a cartoon that offended many people. Today I want to personally apologize to any reader who felt offended, and even insulted.

Over the past couple of days, I have spoken to a number of people and I now better understand the hurt this cartoon has caused. At the same time, I have had conversations with Post editors about the situation and I can assure you - without a doubt - that the only intent of that cartoon was to mock a badly written piece of legislation. It was not meant to be racist, but unfortunately, it was interpreted by many as such.

We all hold the readers of the New York Post in high regard and I promise you that we will seek to be more attuned to the sensitivities of our community.

  3. Kelly Says:

a comment from HuffPo on Murdoch’s apology:

UofAZGrad Says: “I see this as a wonderful development. For the first time in history (according to Wolf and Olberman’s discussions), Rupert is acknowledging a screw up and is responding to public pressure. This at the same time his media empire tanks like all the others but with special problems caused by boycotts and potential waiver withdrawals. I hope of all of these things continue which is to say I hope Murdoch is forced to keep apologizing for this and other offenses while the boycotts continue and his media empire sinks. Best thing to do when the owner of Fox News offers a pound of flesh is to take it, thank him and then demand two more pounds please. Call it the Limbaugh/Hannity/O’Reilly/Beck/Savage/Malkin method of negotiation.

Sharpton is definitely not my favorite person 51 weeks out of the year, but he is this week. Good Job Al!”

I WANT TO THANK ROGER/rain/others for signing the petition…

  4. susieq Says:

I’m sure the only reason he made that statement is because there most have been enough people who were willing to pull ads and subscriptions from the Post. It all boils down to money.

As I’ve said before, if ABC were to lose money because of Elisabeth, she would be gone in a heartbeat.

Is Tom Jones the only guest? I doubt if that younger demographic that advertisers hold in such high esteem even know who he is. And I’m not putting Tom Jones down it’s just the younger generation doesn’t know people from his generation. Example: Last week Mr. Susieq went to the doctors, he had on a Dean Martin t-shirt (they have a DM festival in his hometown every year, we live near there) anyways, the nurse did not know who he was. She asked “is he like Elvis?”

Wonder if EH will act like she listens to TJ all the time. Didn’t she once say Grace listens to Beverly Sills?

  5. Kelly Says:

I always thought Dino was a lot like Elvis.

    Who are ABC’s advertisers?

You can also help by canceling your MySpace page.

I always thought Dino was a lot like Elvis.

    Who are ABC’s advertisers?

You can also help by canceling your MySpace page.

One of my fav CDs - “Legends of the Microphone” Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra and Nate King Cole - great dinner music. Clink

My guests always ask me where I got the CDs - and some have ordered.

  6. lurker315 Says:

Wonder if they will mention the suicide attempt of Danny Philbin, Regis’ rarely acknowledged son. A Pentagon 9/11 survivor, double amputee, lauded by the D o Defense now fallen on hard times. Very sad situation, maybe tied to the economy, maybe to 9/11, maybe to being virtually ignored by a talk show host parent who is always talking about his half-sisters.

  7. susieq Says:

As Barbara likes to say “Regis is a friend of the View.” I can’t imagine them mentioning his son. Like you said lurker, Regis doesn’t even mention him.

  8. lurker315 Says:

Sherri may be flaky at times, but she has always been open about Jeffrey’s problems and her love for him. Regis’ son has a congenital spinal defect. Regis could have used his celebrity for cosciousness-raising over the years. I now see Sherri in a much more positive light.

  9. rainlillie Says:

    Kelly,
Thanks for posting his apology. I think he should clean house at Fuax News, then we can talk.

  10. Roger from Ohio Says:

My mom has a Tom Jones story….

Mom and her friend Sandy went to see Tom Jones, When they get together they kinda go insane. Their tickets were in the “nose bleed” section but they didnt care….. of course, they were flirting with the ushers… when seats up front became available, their usher came back and got these 2 women and took them up front.

Mom says, “we were close enough that we could feel his sweat”…… at one point during the show they were offered to go up on stage for a kiss but they turned it down!!!

They said no to the kiss, because they had eaten Mexican food before the concert and were afraid that they had bad breath!!!

They kicked themselves all the way home…. and still to this day, they both are so disappointed that they didnt get that kiss.

  11. susieq Says:

So Sherri thinks life begins at conception. OK so when she was having multiple abortions did she consider herself a serial killer?

  12. marilyn Says:

I think it would be tasteless to mention Regis’ son, in hot topics. Not because Regis never mentions him…. but because this is a tragic situation and we all need to give Regis and family their “space”, right now.
    IMO

  13. berndoubt Says:

All right. I don’t want to do dishes, so I’m watching today. Everybody be quiet, because kind, compassionate Elisabeth is going to tell us that it’s not right to decide whether child is valued based on how much money the family has. She is such an authority. I mean, she cares so much about the poor, little children who are in poverty.

And, at the risk of making lots of people mad, why is it o.k. with God to create embryos, if it’s not o.k. to destroy them? Either way, aren’t you playing God and if you’re a God-fearing, religious person, don’t you think He gets mad about that? I mean, it’s not nice to fool Mother Nature, right? So, as long as it’s what you want, play God. If it’s what somebody else wants, well, then they are bad for going against the bible. Interesting how that works!

  14. Pepperbird Says:

Barbara is making a valiant attempt to be an animated Lead on the panel, but Whoopi can’t get back too soon for me.

  15. susieq Says:

Marilyn, I actually have to quote Whoopi “we don’t know enough, we weren’t there” regarding Regis’s son. But then again no one has ever accused the View of not being tasteless.

  16. berndoubt Says:

“Do they still teach grammar in school?” Really, Barbara!?!?

  17. Roger from Ohio Says:

    Imagine that…..

They cant criticize Barack Obama on his policies… so lets criticize him for his grammar.

Then Sherri is comparing him to Bush and his misunderstanding of the English language.

These women may have “perfect grammar” but they sure dont bother with facts.

  18. susieq Says:

Apparently today is English class. Tomorrow on the View, multiplication tables. Is it time for recess yet?

  19. Pepperbird Says:

So now grammar is a hot topic?

  20. berndoubt Says:

Yep, we are in the worst economic crisis of our lifetime and we’re worried that Barack Obama’s sentences aren’t properly diagrammable?

I think that the problem with Bush wasn’t that he didn’t speak properly. The city of Chicago has a mayor who is not exactly Mr. Grammar and no one seems to mind. The problem with Bush was/is that he’s not a thoughtful man…and not thoughtful in the “oh, you got me flowers for our anniversary” sense…thoughtful in the “I think, therefore I am” sense. Yeah. I’m gonna say that’s the problem with Bush, not his grammar.

  21. Pepperbird Says:

#17: “They can’t criticize Barack Obama on his policies… so lets criticize him for his grammar.”

Good insight, Roger! Fox news and the Republicans still can’t accept the fact that they lost the election.

  22. Roger from Ohio Says:

Arent they “playing God” when they are “planting embryos”?

If an embryo has the same rights as a child that has been born…. does that mean that if a woman has a miscarriage, that she should go to jail for manslaughter?

That is one of those arguments that has a lot of unintended consequences. You cant make a law with only one side.

  23. susieq Says:

Can someone please brush Elisabeth’s hair.

  24. misslingdow Says:

#10 Rog from Ohio Great story!! Hilarious I can totally relate!

On a side note, Rog, are you in Columbus?

  25. susieq Says:

“If an embryo has the same rights as a child that has been born…. does that mean that if a woman has a miscarriage, that she should go to jail for manslaughter?”

Roger, a lot of pro-lifers think abortion is murder. I don’t understand people like Sherri. She’s not going to use her embryos, she’s not donating them, so what happens when she’s dead? The embryos stay there forever? If she thinks life begins at conception does that mean her embryos are what, in some sort of prelife purgatory?

  26. Roger from Ohio Says:

    #3 Kelly–

I WANT TO THANK ROGER/rain/others for signing the petition…

Thanks for allowing me to “clink the link”

    #23 susieq–

Can someone please brush Elisabeth’s hair.

No way…. the “tousled” style is good… sexy even.

Havent you realized about EH yet? She is still trying to be sexy to other men…. she wants to be a “contestant” on “The Bachelor”…..
but she is still upset that Angela is with Brad and Jen isnt…… I still think that she is bitter because Tim is a fan of Angela Jolie …. How do you spell hypocrite? EH

  27. berndoubt Says:

Sherri called the three fertilized eggs her sons. That sort of gives you a peek into her simplistic thought process. If you use the logic that she applies, though, she shouldn’t have any babies. And (major disclaimer, this is NOT what I think, but an extension of Sherri’s logic) maybe her infertility is God’s punishment for all of the abortions she had…in which case, she skirted around the punishment and got what she wanted anyone. So, when a gay or lesbian person wants to get married, how do they get around the unfair marriage laws with which Sherri agrees (see how I did the grammar thing!)????

  28. Pepperbird Says:

susieq, LOL re: Elisabeth’s hair. She needs the roots done too.

  29. Roger from Ohio Says:

    #24 misslingdow–

On a side note, Rog, are you in Columbus?

Not currently…. but I did live there for 14 years…. I really miss it.

  30. berndoubt Says:

Terrible idea to interview a guest and have them go right into the performance, especially when you forget to keep the APPLAUSE light blinking. The clapping dies down naturally and then cranks back up again when an assistant director furiously waves his or her clipboard to wind up the lemmings!

  31. susieq Says:

Roger, if you think Elisabeth’s hair is sexy then clearly you have fallen and hit you head. If you are able to type please type
    9 1 1

  32. berndoubt Says:

#31, he’s fallen and he can’t get up?

  33. Roger from Ohio Says:

    9 1 1

  34. berndoubt Says:

If you have anchovy olives and bloody Mary mix, then help is on the way, Roger!

  35. Roger from Ohio Says:

No… really…. Elisabeth has a sexy side to her…. but it is her thoughts and ideas that makes her extremely unattractive.

There are many women on the right like that….. so there is the real truth about sexy women… it is all about her mind.

This is why Joy wants me…. we think alike.

  36. Roger from Ohio Says:

Alright…. the question of the day just came to me

Will Barbara Walters ask Tom Jones for a lap dance?

  37. susieq Says:

Roger, in all seriousness, I do believe if Elisabeth wasn’t what someone people consider attractive, she wouldn’t have her job and that to me is pathetic.

How many articulate, smart, well-informed women (and men) can’t get a job in front of the camera because they aren’t visually appealing? There is a discrimination in this country against “non-pretty” people.

  38. misslingdow Says:

I didn’t get to see Tom perform– Rog ask your mom if he looked hot! Does that sound as strange to everyone else as it does to me? LOL

  39. berndoubt Says:

Since I did not watch Barbara’s 28th Annual Oscar Special with The Jonas Brothers and The Bonus Jonas, Anne Hathaway, Mickey Rourke and Hugh Jackman, airing just before the Oscars everywhere but on the west coast where it airs after the Oscars, to enjoy all of the insightful, thoughtful, breathily-asked questions and be happy that you don’t need to hear about it anymore, except on Monday and Tuesday when Barbara can’t stop herself from pimping an already aired special that uses the term special loosely, so I didn’t get to see the Hugh Jackman lap dance until it was on both The Colbert Report and The Daily Show.

All I can say is, nice view, Mr. Jackman and if that’s insensitive of me as a woman to objectify a man, I respond, yeah, nice view.

  40. Roger from Ohio Says:

    #37 susieq–

There is a discrimination in this country against “non-pretty” people.

that is the ONLY reason that Im not on TV

  41. Pepperbird Says:

Roger: “Will Barbara Walters ask Tom Jones for a lap dance?”

ROFL!! Or tossing her underwear at him, as females did in days of yore when he appeared in Las Vegas.

  42. Roger from Ohio Says:

    #39 berndoubt–

I didn’t get to see the Hugh Jackman lap dance until it was on both The Colbert Report and The Daily Show.

Same here Bern…. I also saw it on Faux News during Gretta’s show.

The most creepy thing was when Jackman had to reach out and lift Barbara’s head so she would look him in the eye instead of in the crotch.

Oh…. speaking of creepy….. Ill ask her misslingdow

  43. Kelly Says:

I’d say ABC got the memo.

    -new Insider Access feedback forum
-actual money experts to discuss stimulus
-recognition of Murdoch’s apology for junk journalism

Even after the CNN guy told TLB that the Republican pronounced “pork” was cut out of the stimulus bill and only represented less than one percent of the package – she said, “Depends on who you’re talking to.”

Good grief – and the discussion on Barack’s use of “Michelle and I” vs “Michelle and me?” Compared to Bush’s “Too many OB-GYNs aren’t able to practice their love with women all across this country.”

    Has this woman no shame?

BTW – I’m having no luck potty training 3-yr-old son. Any tips?

  44. susieq Says:

Well that lapdance was probably the closest BW has been to ahem, you know, so I guess we should be thankful all she did was look.

  45. Diane from N.J. Says:

    O.K. lighthearted stuff first:

“Its not unusual…” - freaking fantastic performance Mr. Jones! All the mediocrity out there and you’ve still got it! You got this Jersey housewife to stop folding laundry and get dancing with her yellow Labbie on the living dance floor !

Well, well, well, View Producers - getting the hint? Some mood lighting, staging, and real LIVE MUSIC ??? You just may have blown the production budget for the year. Now get those 5 tacky card tables out from the coat closet with cheap tablecloths back out for tomorrow’s boring product placement segment.

And Barbara, really ? Did you think you needed to explain that the opening recorded song was Tom Jones’ “She’s A Lady” ?

I could have sworn it was AC/DC ’s flip side of Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap.

  46. susieq Says:

    “Has this woman no shame?”

    No, Kelly she doesn’t.

Potty training huh? Does he know before he has to go in his diaper? My son used to go off by himself right before he dirtied his diaper, so I would snatch him up and take him to the potty. He got the idea after a little while.

  47. lynn c Says:

#40: That is why the old saying “He/she has a face for radio” became popular. (non-pretties on TV)

    Loved Tom Jones!!!!

Some pregnant women don’t believe in hair dye while they are preggers. But I do think brushing is considered safe!

Hope WG doesn’t wear the Oscar gown tomorrow….the awards are over, move on, move on…..

Pres. Obama’s “I’s” and “me’s”- c’mon, people, give UP already!!!!!!

  48. berndoubt Says:

“Depends on who you’re talking to”, yup, I wrote that down with the intention of bringing up the fact that we really need a financial expert on so that Elisabeth Filarski Hasselbeck, expert on NOTHING, can debate him.

Potty training? Really want tips from this bunch? Well, my words of wisdom are as follows: Mostly they all figure it out before kindergarten no matter what we do as parents. Some kids take a really long time to get started, don’t even seem interested and then all the sudden, they care and they figure it out and bing-o, bang-o, boing-o, they are potty trained. Other kids take tiny, teeny little steps for months, have setbacks, are dry for weeks at a time and then forget about it. I think potty training is more parent training. Don’t stress. It seems really crucial, but honestly, it’s not. Don’t listen to whatever “expert” told you that “three is awfully late to still be in diapers”. It’s more important for you and your child to be relaxed about the whole thing. Easier said than done, yeah, I know, mine are potty-trained. Now, does anybody have any advice on how to parent teenagers???????

  49. berndoubt Says:

Oh, yeah, and one more potty-training thing. I remember reading that since diapers are so absorbent now, it’s not uncomfortable to be in a “wet” diaper, so by making things “easier” and “better” for our kids, we’ve once again made it more difficult for them! Damn, Denis Leary is right, WE SUCK!

  50. susieq Says:

“Now, does anybody have any advice on how to parent teenagers???????”

Bern, you know the answer to that. Martinis and brownies. Let’s hope we don’t find the special ingredient for the brownies in our teenager’s rooms though.

  51. Kelly Says:

Yes susieq - he hides under the stairs - but he’s quick. I’ll catch him soon.

He’s good at using the potty for number one – but the counting stops there.

I promised I washed my hands before resuming my post.

lynn c: “Some pregnant women don’t believe in hair dye while they are preggers. But I do think brushing is considered safe!”

    LOL - she’s “nesting”

  52. Roger from Ohio Says:

    #39 misslingdow–

Rog ask your mom if he looked hot!

I asked her… she said… I never saw a man sweat so much… it was so bad that he had to keep popping salt pills.

I told her that I did not think that is what they meant by “hot”…. she couldnt stop laughing.

She said he was totally hot!….. but they didnt toss their panties on the stage.

Then she said that the woman beside them brought a whole bag of panties with her….. kept tossing them on stage through out the whole show….. once he picked up one of her pair…. and wiped his face with it….. She was almost crying while saying I want them back… I want them back….

She told them that she was gonna be bad…. and she was….. the police even had to stand in front of her so she wouldnt crawl up on stage.

And Mom and Sandy wouldnt go get a kiss because they needed a mint.

  53. Pepperbird Says:

Winnie: Your synopsis of the show today, especially the details about the stimulus package and the housing plan, is very helpful and quite impressive.

  54. wendee Says:

It ticks me off that the refinancing is only for people who owe more than 5% of what their home is worth. We owe much more than that because of the housing crash, through no fault of our own, buying a house we could afford in an area that is super expensive. However, because the area is the cheapest of the surrounding suburbs, our property has dramatically decreased, because of so many foreclosures. It doesn’t seem fair to me that because we were responsible in buying and saving, that they will not let us refi because we have money in the bank and have lost too much value. Therefore we cannot take advantage of the 30 year rates. ARGHHH

  55. Diane from N.J. Says:

“Depends on who you’re talking to”…

This is a perfect example of:

FACTS HAVE A LIBERAL BIAS. (Yea, Rog, and Kelly - we love that saying in this house too !)

So after Ali Velchi very succinctly explained the package, Hasselbeck still believes otherwise. I am sure because “Sean-ie” says differently.

By The Way. It dawned on me today who Elzabeth Hasselbeck reminds me of:

PAT BUCHANAN. Yes really. If you see him on MSNBC (too regularly), when they get ready to make a serious, my-way-or-the-highway, only-i-know-correctly point, they both:

    - Stare down at the desk
    - lean foward, and hunch shoulders
    - elbows on desk, and both hands in front of face making gesture as if holding an object, except EH has that weird thing with both of her thumb knuckles.

I am watching them both way too much.

  56. rainlillie Says:

It would be nice for them to have an adult conversation about choice. There are some people who are anti-choice and it has nothing to do with religion. There are some people who are very religious and who are pro-choice. Sherri has every right to decide for herself when she thinks life begins. She should respect the fact that others may feel differently.

Since she has the means to support her “sons” as she calls them, why not get them implanted in her. What will happen to them when she’s too old to carry a baby to term? Also, does her ex hubby share joint custody of the eggs?

Yep bern - I suspected as much and have had him in his Dino-roos. He really went nuts the first time he wet himself in those…he stood stiff like somebody was pouring cold water down his back. LOL

I’ve tried naughty chair, reward (MnMs - toy cars) - and still the laundry is piling up. He’s just like his father (stubborn I mean– I’m not changing Mr. Kelly’s diapers)

wendee - I think he said refinancing is available for those whose mortgage is not more than 5% over its appraised value…

    Precisely.

Aren’t you all glad that big smart, hunk of a man, was on the View to explain to us how the Stimulus worked.

I gagged when BW said thanks for explaining it to us. She forgot to add, we shouldn’t worry our pretty little heads about money matters. Let the men folk do that.

  63. rainlillie Says:

“I’m not changing Mr. Kelly’s diapers”

  64. berndoubt Says:

Clink the pink link on #48, 57 or 59 for potty training tips (all the same link). I’m sure you’ve seen them all, but these seem pretty logical. Just remember that it seems like a huge deal right now, because you’re in the midst of it. Again, easy for me to say, right? Especially with a stubborn child, it becomes more of the child training you than you training the child. Don’t let it become a battle of wills. Frame it in such a way that he feels like he’s in control of his progress and again, don’t stress too much!

Is there a no-diaper deadline for preschool or something?

  65. Joey Says:

    #45 Diane

    Ha! LOL

Good posts everyone…you peeps are making it hard to stay in my current cranky mood.

Kelly re potty training, just relax and know that it’s just a matter of time. Many experts say that it is a matter of physical control and not of attitude…

  66. Pepperbird Says:

I’m glad that Rupert Murdoch apologized about that cartoon and admitted his accountability.

In the same humble spirit, I must admit to the world after snarking about Barbara’s bulky red tie yesterday that aujourd’hui her little black suit with the narrow red belt and tasteful pin was du dernier cri.

  67. Kelly Says:

wendee – I’m really sorry to hear that. Hopefully the market will stabilize this year – and values start to climb again by next year. I was watching something last week and this woman bought her home in Florida for $280K and today it is worth $60K.

I bought my house for $20K more than it was worth thanks to a bad/corrupt bank appraisal and an incompetent realtor.

  68. Roger from Ohio Says:

    #56 rainlillie–

Also, does her ex hubby share joint custody of the eggs?

Now wouldnt that be a “train wreck” in the making?

Could her ex-husband have those “boys” implanted in his new wife/girlfriend? They are his embryos too…. Is Sherri the only one that gets to decide what happens to them?

If she “freaked out” because another woman was sharing “her house” with “her man”….. she would be a basket case if she had to share her embryos.

  69. rainlillie Says:

“I’m not changing Mr. Kelly’s diapers”

    LOL!

    Kelly.
I gave both my children books to read and I started them off on the toilet. I never used the potty chair. I trained my sisters youngest son too. I also played their favorite CD’s while they sat. My hubby and I went and purchased big kid undies before they were trained, so it really motivated them to get out of the pampers.

  70. wendee Says:

thanks kelly… luckily as of right now we can still afford the payments, even if they do adjust slightly. i am grateful for that, and that we have a secure home :>

  71. berndoubt Says:

It makes me very angry that the American dream was home ownership and when people use a home as their main investment, which is what we were all taught, they are then screwed over by a completely corrupt system that benefits everyone at the top and rips off the people with the least to gain in the equation. Our pretend, on paper only, value is gone while the fat cats at the top are swimming in bonuses and looking for the next way to rip us all off, by mortgaging the future of the country to take care of what they screwed up!

Rant over. Maybe not quite a full pot of tea tomorrow morning!

  72. ShannonP Says:

Can’t help on the potty-training. We are hoping to be on our way to that stage pretty soon though.

Random thought: Two topics I wish I never had to hear about again are Angelina Jolie vs. Jennifer Anniston and religion’s role in pregnancy.

  73. Roger from Ohio Says:

    #60 wendee–

yeah, thats what i meant…. we bought ours for 280K and now it is worth way less, not allowing us to refi

It would seem to me that banks will want to “fix” these loans…. especially if the government is going to back these fixes.

If your bank wont refi… contact another one, in the next couple of weeks… there should be support for these problems…. ways to talk to your bank…. that type of thing.

They said that if you are in foreclosure, you can refi up to 150% of the value of your home…. ask the bank if you have to stop paying to become eligible for that program….. they might then understand the positive action of allowing you to refinance.

    “strawman” threats sometimes work.
    good luck.

  74. dana Says:

It was only a matter of time before Elizabeth started defending the OctoMOM.
She’s defending her right to have so many kids because she has these frozen embryos.
Elizabeth, try hard to focus and think a little deeper. I know it will hurt but concentrate… the OctoMOM got herself into this situation. She made bad choices for selfish reasons. Elizabeth… stay with me… the OctoMom may or may not be having postpartum but she is and appears to have been mentally unstable. Is this a good situation or a fair one to bring children into? I think not.

  75. Joey Says:

    #51 Rain

ITA and I thought the whole thing about SS and her embryos was bizarre. How could someone possibly think of these embryos as sons when she believes that if she implants all of them only one will take. The rational is just sad.

  77. Roger from Ohio Says:

    my take on potty training…..

Dont bother…. they wil figure it out on their own…. sometimes I dont bother… especially when Im in mid thought and typing here…. Depends was the best invention for those of us on the “cutting edge” of potty training.

I cant wait to go scuba diving…. they call it a “wet suit” because you get to wet in it to keep warm….. how fun.

  78. Teresa Says:

When they showed the clip from Radar( which has pulled it) of the Ottucmom auguring with her mom did anyone else notice her sly smirk and quick glance straight into the camera after she said she was going to have to swallow her pride and except help? God, I was waiting for them to discuss that.

  79. Kelly Says:

Thanks everyone for the potty tips – will try them. I really mean that.

If you want a free instant appraisal – Google: [Your County State] Auditor Property Search

Enter your property and find your appraisal. This tax-purpose appraisal is usually less than the actual market value – but should give you a ballpark. In today’s market – it may actually be more than market value.

You can petition to have your home reappraised if you would like to pay less property tax (if your home has lost value and you are not planning to sell).

Also, banks are making it harder to get rid of PMI – unless Obama repeals this – you can’t make home improvements to increase the value of your home and expect the bank to waive your PMI. Some banks are basing your home’s value on the original appraisal – and many homes were over appraised. DE-REG-U-LATION yeah

    –Danielle Steel’s next novel
–a “Movie of the Week” on TV

  82. rainlillie Says:

“We are hoping to be on our way to that stage pretty soon though.”

    Cool Shannon P, good luck!

If anyone is interested I just posted the interview with Nadya and her mom.

  83. Julianne Says:

I’m almost speechless (but you should all know me better than that by now).

Bitsy said something about she KNOWS, because “after I have a child” - you have two, whom you don’t care for. Your nanny and loser husband do that. You pretty much lie (not lay) on your back with your legs in the air then come on TV and talk about breast milk. Why are you being so irresponsible as to have yet another one instead of, I don’t know, adopting so we don’t have families of 14 who think they “couldn’t” have their children “out there.” What the Hell is “out there”?

Having a baby is not raising a child (I’m going to say this until people get it). Getting knocked up is not being a mother. I know this because I’m one of 5% in this country who is adopted. I’ve also been responsible enough not to overpopulate the planet for her spawn. At least one of us is thinking things through and not taking only ourselves into account.

Did anyone catch Joy telling EH, “You’ve got the job, Elisa-*****” when she was going on and on and on about Babs’ award? I love Joy.

Regarding the weave - why are we talking about the weave and not about violence? Seems like a more important conversation to me.

  84. susieq Says:

Actually Pepperbird, that was a plot on Law and Order, I kid you not.

And this Octomom, with all these interviews she’s giving, and manciures she’s getting, does she actually have any time to raise these kids? She’s on Dr. Phil tomorrow.

  85. susieq Says:

“Regarding the weave - why are we talking about the weave and not about violence? Seems like a more important conversation to me.”

Julianne, I wondered that too. It’s like saying “sure she got 2 black eyes but at least her mascara didn’t run” after seeing the victim of domestic violence.

  86. berndoubt Says:

#83, “Regarding the weave - why are we talking about the weave and not about violence? Seems like a more important conversation to me.”

Precisely because it is an important issue, I hope The View doesn’t try to cover it. I’m almost relieved that they haven’t talked about Rihanna and Chris Brown. I don’t want to know what any of them think about it. They should just go back to all fluff and sex surveys.

  87. ShannonP Says:

#78 Teresa, I haven’t watched the show today. But from a couple clips I saw of that Octo-Mom and her Mom, it just felt like they were trying to manufacture drama and tension and completely manipulate people into helping them out and get money wherever they can.

  88. Elsie Says:

Well, for once advise people care about. Not cheap toys or make-up. Thanks **Re. EH’s hair, seems that is the trend in Hllwd. Kate Winslet (who won BA O for 30+y/o having relations w/a 15 y/o minor, but oh well!) Renee Z., Naomi Watts, and others have sported that look. Don’t care much for it, but it is a far cry from the ‘anchor woman helmet’ ( a la Fox?). ;)

  89. ShannonP Says:

    “Cool Shannon P, good luck!”

Thanks Rain :-) We definitely haven’t rushed into it, we are coming up on 15 years together. So I think we are as prepared as we are going to get.

  90. Elsie Says:

#86 berndoubt. Yes, they talked about R. and C.B. last week. SS said that they’re just kids. Really? Some “kids” commit hate crimes. 19 is very young (sigh!!) but an adult. Rihana is a beautiful, sexy, talented young woman and it was heartbreaking to see her pic. I say, run and run fast. You have a whole life ahead.

  91. Mary Evans Says:

This is not my observation but one from a poster on another board which I find hilarius -
EH and SS think Palin is so smart BECAUSE she’s a mom.
Nadya Suleman must be Albert Einstein!

No BW, we didn’t realize you walked out to Tom Jones. Thanks too for letting us know that WG doesn’t fly and has her own bus.

I am not getting the frozen embryo discussion. If SS uses all 3 then she could potential have 6. Wasn’t Jeffrey a twin?
NS thinks there are only 2 options - use or destory. Her mom, have them adopted. SS keep them frozen for eternity.

I too loved Joy telling EH that she already has the award. SS pointed out Joy had a gracie award too but then BW just had to say well, she has one for TV and radio.

    Sigh.

  92. Pepperbird Says:

#87 ShannonP: “it just felt like they were trying to manufacture drama and tension and completely manipulate people into helping them out and get money wherever they can.”

ITA. I get the same creepy feeling from Octo-Mom and her Mom that I used to get from watching Casey Anthony and her parents. They seemed to enjoy the daily media attention and positively basked in it. Sickening.

  93. susieq Says:

“We definitely haven’t rushed into it, we are coming up on 15 years together. So I think we are as prepared as we are going to get.”

ShannonP, I wish you luck with your baby plans. Parenthood is so rewarding. It’s not all sunshine and roses but it’s the best ride of your life.

  94. Kelly Says:

rainlillie #56 says about Sherri: “Since she has the means to support her “sons” as she calls them, why not get them implanted in her. What will happen to them when she’s too old to carry a baby to term? Also, does her ex hubby share joint custody of the eggs?”

If Sherri wants to implant her embryos – I wish she would consider a surrogate. She would also need her soon-to-be-ex-husband’s permission – which may be why the divorce is taking so long.

Sherri will be 42 in April, and gave birth to Jeffrey on her 38th birthday in 2005 via C-section. Jeffrey was born prematurely at 25 weeks, weighing 1lb 10oz and spent 4 months in NICU and then 4 days a week in therapy.

Too many abortions can lead to Asherman’s syndrome– scarring of the uterus, which prevents the womb from stretching.

    Sherri Shepherd interview:
“It was hard because you go through guilt that something is wrong with you, or maybe you waited too long,” she says. “It was a lot of shots, a lot of false pregnancies, and a lot of tears.”

After many false pregnancies and tears, Sherri and then husband Jeff Tarpley were able to conceive twins with the help of fertility treatments. The happiness didn’t last for long. Just a few weeks later, Sherri miscarried one of the twins, a baby girl. Just when she thought it couldn’t get worse, Sherri went into early labor and delivered her other twin, a son by the name of Jeffrey.

“He was very premature, born with severe brain bleeding on both sides,” she says. “He also had a hole in an artery near his heart and in his intestine. He weighed one pound, ten ounces and the doctors predicted that he would have severe cerebral palsy. We thought we were going to lose him.”

Through all the heart monitors, Intensive Care Unit trips, and oxygen tanks, Sherri was able to find happiness again.

“There was one point where I thought I would never get on stage and make people laugh again. I thought I would never smile again.”

Today Jeffrey is a happy and healthy boy. “He has no cerebral palsy, his brain functions, but he’s just slower in learning. He’s our little miracle, except when he’s having a tantrum, then the miracle flies out the window!”-Source: Ok! Magazine

  95. Joey Says:

I believe the real issue with the octomom isn’t whether or not she chose to have all eight babies but rather why in the hell she chose to have ‘any’ more children in the first place. And why in the hell her doctor allowed this to happen; it boggles the mind. I think we all get that now that the children are here their welfare comes first.

When EH started in about abortion and poverty I almost tossed my martini in her face, but I came to my senses an drank it instead.

EH, being pro-choice means you believe women must have the right to not raise a child in poverty or in a home where it’s not going to be loved and taken care of. With your rational an economically challenged women should be forced to have a child and then put it up for adoption so someone richer can adopt it and fulfill their need to be a parent. Talk about economic bias!

  96. susieq Says:

Sherri said she pays every year to keep her embyros frozen. Like I asked before, what happens when she’s dead? Is she going to set up a trust for these embryos to stay frozen? For eternity? If she believes they are already a “life” then why not let them be born? If not to her then someone else.

If I were in her position, after dealing with infertility, and not planning on having another child I would donate them to another couple who were infertile. Sherri is all about being a good “Christian”, wouldn’t that be a “Christian” thing to do?

  97. Joey Says:

    #96 susieq

  98. susieq Says:

Joey, don’t you remember Newt Gingrich’s plan back in the 90’s. To get rid of welfare he basically wanted the kids of women on welfare to be put in orphanages. So I could believe EH thinking “poor” babies should be given to rich parents.

  99. Roger from Ohio Says:

I think that the “octomom” had more kids for the money…… this woman is going to get rich off of the backs of these children.

Im gonna say it first… when it comes true, I expect to be patted on the back by all of you.

Remember that I said this when it happens….

Nadya “octomom” Suleman will have more children.

  100. berndoubt Says:

#99, it wouldn’t surprise me, but it would make me sad, if you are right.

  101. Roger from Ohio Says:

    #96 susieq–

Sherri is all about being a good “Christian”, wouldn’t that be a “Christian” thing to do?

I always thought that “Playing God” was anti-christian……… Where in the bible does it say that you should put your embryo in a freezer until you are rich enough to have children………. If you DONT believe that ALL of the rules of christianity should be followed….. stop praying for people that dont believe the say that you believe….. I believe that what you have done Sherri is “against god” … how does your “christian beliefs” think that you should you be punished?

  102. susieq Says:

Roger, I can’t imagine another fertility clinic letting her even walk through their door. And as far as getting pregnant the other way, good luck to her finding a man willing to even try.

Those sweet babies will no doubt be a windfall for her but I hope someone is put in charge of some sort of trust for them. IMO Nadya shouldn’t have free rein over any money donated those kids. Remember this is the woman who instead of supporting the children she already had saved up money to have more. Cleary she is someone who thinks her needs come first. Hence, her well-manicured nails.

  103. susieq Says:

Roger, Sherri and Elisabeth are both “Christians” who pick and choose what rules they want to play by. For Sherri having multiple abortions is OK, but destroying embryos is wrong. For Elisabeth sleeping with married men is wrong if you’re a Democrat but if you’re Barbara or Cindy McCain it’s OK.

  104. berndoubt Says:

The bottom line is that we all pick and choose what rules are important to us and by which we will play (see, I did the grammar thing again!), but some people think they have the right to dictate to others which rules they will be for all of us.

  105. Joey Says:

Even the SPCA would have done a background check and I know they wouldn’t have allowed her to adopt eight dogs.

  106. susieq Says:

Bern, it’s the hypocrisy that makes me literally want to scream. GRRRRRR.

Sherri and Elisabeth sit there so smug and that is what I can’t stand. I am very pro-choice but for Sherri to sit there and say she can’t destroy her embryos because they’re her “boys” but yet she had MULTIPLE abortions. Weren’t those babies her “boys or girls”?

And Elisabeth, her hypocrisy is well-noted on this blog and many others. But I do predict one day karma is going to come and bite EH.

  107. Joey Says:

    Roger

“I always thought that “Playing God” was anti-christian……… Where in the bible does it say that you should put your embryo in a freezer until you are rich enough to have children………. I believe that what you have done Sherri is “against god” … how does your “christian beliefs” think that you should you be punished?”

There’s a world of hypocrisy in fundamental religion. Religious interpretations are generally based on the need to manipulate and control and not on rational thought and compassion.

  108. Elsie Says:

Is it ok for a 19 y/o man to beat his GF up. @ 19 you are an adult, not a kid! Sounds like double standard to me!

I was pregnant with him the summer of 92 which meant while he was in utero he was subjected to a lot of politics on TV. Now I was born on August 29, 1968. Smack dab in the middle of all hell breaking loose in this country. I’ve always thought that is why I am the way I am politically, that I picked it up in the womb or something.

My son was never spanked, rarely yelled at, but I do believe that there were rare times he was smacked upside the head for sexist, homophobic, racist and ‘intolerant of others’ remarks. Maybe this is why I have the urge to treat EH the same way. However, my son was a kid and EH is a/an….(you fill in the blanks). Today, he’s a kind, well-educated young man, a strong individual and a responsible member of society….oh god listen to me…I swear I have not yet started to plan the shrine. I’m watching Oprah interview Octomom’s dad. Man is she a better interviewer than BW. She comes across as so natural. BW always seems so rehearsed, like let me turn me head this way, maybe I should smile now. I don’t believe anything BW does isn’t planned ahead of time.

“This job comes with a lot of guilt ShannonP. Best of luck – children are a piece of heaven on earth.”

    Thanks Kelly and Susieq:-)
I hope we are lucky enough to start a family. I can’t believe how strong the desire to start one has hit this last year.

  128. gonnavent Says:

“FREErice.com” is the best site ever! My husband and I got all our friends hooked last year - it’s addictive!

  129. Mary Evans Says:

I just watched Bonnie Hunt because she had something to say about being on The View. She was fine with, just perplexed. They showed a clip of it and then because they might not get permmission to use it they did an re-enactment. The panelists were all men with wigs. Even though they did the interview word for word they were cracking up!

It showed how stupid The View was - Joy with her questions from the producers and especially BW.

  130. ds Says:

I love how Joy always calls them out (EH and SS) when they are sucking up to BW. Too funny!

  131. Pepperbird Says:

[Searching 360 degrees with binoculars]: Whoopi, where are you…Whoopi come home…Get back where you belong…
    you’re missed at the View.

  132. ds Says:

#129 Mary Evans, thank you so much for sharing that. I am so glad to hear that Bonnie had a bit of fun with it after how she was treated on the View!

  133. Roger from Ohio Says:

    #129 Mary Evans–

FIND US A LINK!!! that would be so funny!!!

  134. gonnavent Says:

    Aileen,

THANKS SO MUCH FOR THE RE-CAP of the insider access session yesterday! I didn’t think my comment got posted yesterday as I got errors after pressing the button - then I realized to day that it did go through…..so thanks!

Hey Winnie - Thanks so much for everything….you may want to take a look, as those weird errors are coming back, but the comments do seem to be posting! BTW - You’re awesome for providing this forum!!! :-)

  135. Diane from N.J. Says:

SusieQ - Most assuredly, your family is very, very fortunate to have you. And if you give them the wit, smarts, and humor that you share on this blog, then they are extra fortunate.

(I knew Michael Jackson was 8/29, but the birth year makes all the difference.)
    :)

    RE: #135 ‘What Diane said’.

You add tons of fun and insight to this blog. Staying at home to care for your family is rewarding and tough and sometimes draining. I think it is the ultimate service career…

And if you weren’t here to party with things would not be quite the same.

Thanks for the ‘heads-up’ about the Oprah show…I want to be compassionate (and I think I am) but the more I see the more I want to save the wee babes.

  137. Mary Evans Says:

    susieq - ditto
I wish I could find a link for Bonnie.
IMO O did a great show on Octomom, I may just watch it again tonight.

  138. susieq Says:

    Thanks Diane and Joey.

As far as I’m concerned the View might be what brought us all together but I could live without it. But this site is something I look forward to every day.

On another note, are we taking bets on how shrill Elisabeth will be tomorrow about Obama’s speech tonight? I’m thinking on a scale from 1-10 she’ll reach a 9. And since Gov. Jindal(did I spell that right?) is giving the Republican response, he’ll be her new crush.

  139. rainlillie Says:

    Kelly,
    Thanks for the info.

Shannon, you’ll be a great mom.

SusieQ, much love to you! Being a stay at home mom is one of the hardest jobs in the world. No holidays, no sick days on call 24/7.

    Joey,
I feel the same way about the babies. You just hope whatever happens, they’ll have happy, healthy lives. The whole thing is just sad and strange to me.

  140. susieq Says:

Mary, I also looked for a link to BH. I don’t watch her show but I love her as an actress.

BTW, over at insideraccess I commented that EH owes Michelle Obama an apology. That is something I will never forget.

  141. ShannonP Says:

You can have a live chat over at that site too.

I just watched a bit of today’s show and I liked it a lot better without Whoopi there. Everyone seems to get their own view points in without Whoopi just waiting for a chance to make it about her and tell everyone else how they should really think. No Valley Girl, no strange faces when other people talk. I just liked the vibe better.

  142. gonnavent Says:

    SusieQ,

“BTW, over at insideraccess I commented that EH owes Michelle Obama an apology. That is something I will never forget.”

    Me neither!

OK Ladies (and Gent - what’ up OHIO!), does anyone know why Lester4111 on You Tube stopped posting the Episodes? I have actually stopped watching on regular TV - in defiance of EH and BW - and I went there today to actually watch and catch up and it seems like he stopped - but I can’t find an explanation as to why?! Do we think that ABC was like “STOP!”?

P.S. - EVERYONE should click on my name. BEST website evah! Make sure you have the volume UP!!!!!!!!!!

I’m DYING to see the clip of EH being all Irritating with the Financial Expert! But, alas, if it means I actually have to watch, and hence, give them ratings - than “No Thank You!”

  143. ShannonP Says:

“does anyone know why Lester4111 on You Tube stopped posting the Episodes?”

He gave a short reply that he didn’t have the time to do it anymore.

  144. Mary Evans Says:

I didn’t get the MO point in the insideraccess but will on Thur. I need to be much faster and have my bullet points more succinct. Outing MO and “where are the parents” are the 2 most despicable things EH has said although there are quite a few to choose from! I did, however, get in that she is a bigot and offered up “glitterglasses.” I see you have 4 votes and 100% thunbs up!

  145. Julianne Says:

Susieq #124- I was born December 31, 1967 and have thought the same exact thing. We lost a LOT in 1968, MLK, Bobby Kennedy, Tet…….(dianefromnj - I’d love to hear anything you know about that, but I’ve heard that I’m a Capricorn, Capricorn, Aries rising…then, they roll their eyes and say they’re sorry to hear that)

Related note - any of you in NYC? I’ll be there next week and would love to put a name with a face over some coffee. (I’m not a freak just like meeting new people.)

  146. ShannonP Says:

Sherri displaying ignorance; take 1000: Today when they were talking about the woman who’s weave stopped the bullet. Sherri spoke in such an excited and happy tone, they were laughing and joking like that was so funny. It is crazy that it happened and the lady is lucky, but hello…the lady was shot at by an ex-boyfriend. Violence and attempted murder is not something to turn into a joke. Oh ha ha ha the weave saved her head from being blown apart, ha ha ha. I just didn’t think it was funny, not in the extreme that Sherri was going at it.

  147. susieq Says:

I just read over at TWOP that the View’s rating have stayed up since the election. You know what that means, they’re going to think “hey things are going well, let’s keep doing what we’re doing.”

Has anyone seen their new commercial? Apparently CNN said “forget the Sunday morning shows, the View can’t be beat”.

Are we the only people that see this show as the trainwreck that it is? It’s like that Seinfeld episode, Bizarro World. Everything is the opposite. The View is as good as Meet the Press? Yeah right.

  148. susieq Says:

Julianne, you and I could totally be friends. I always say I’m a hippie with a better wardrobe.

Diane, really 100% thumbs up? As I pat myself on the back, cool. I think I’m going to do the access again tomorrow night. Like you I will be prepared this time.

ShannonP, from how Sherri talked about the Chris Brown case I hate to say it, but she doesn’t seem like domestic violence is important to her. Maybe I’m wrong but that’s the vibe I get.

  149. Mary Evans Says:

Yes Shannon, ITA. It was not funny.

OTOH, maybe the boyfriend is just a young kid. Just like Chris Brown. IMO SS is stupidly ignorant.

  150. Sarah Says:

“And, at the risk of making lots of people mad, why is it o.k. with God to create embryos, if it’s not o.k. to destroy them? Either way, aren’t you playing God and if you’re a God-fearing, religious person, don’t you think He gets mad about that? I mean, it’s not nice to fool Mother Nature, right? So, as long as it’s what you want, play God. If it’s what somebody else wants, well, then they are bad for going against the bible. Interesting how that works!”

You make an interesting point bern. I have never understood Sherri’s “logic” - and I wouldn’t even care how faulty her reasoning was on that if she wasn’t so self-righteous and preachy about it. I’m sick and tired of the Pick-and-choose-Christians (which is my little nickname for people like Sherri and Elisabeth) trying to cram down my throat how I should be living.

  151. susieq Says:

Did anyone else get 2 emails from insideraccess?

I think we’re making our point about Elisabeth. But they spelled Sherri’s name wrong. Why am I not surprised.

  152. rainlillie Says:

I would love to see the View do shows on issue such as domestic violence and other issues that women have to deal with on a daily basis. It seems they are more interested in entertaining people than informing them. Why not do a informative show once a month?

  153. Joey Says:

Has anyone ever watched “The American Future: A History”? Well worth ‘begging, borrowing or stealing for’. PBS, you will love it. Tis for sale on DVD.

Rain you must watch….it’s Canada as well…

  154. Carmella Says:

#152 Why not do a informative show once a month?

Then they’d have to replace their hosts (or two of them)? Ignorance is bliss - the View mantra or so it seems.

Why not go back to 1-1 interviews with celebs, question of the day (allowed some silliness but not the cross talk), 4 or 5 decades of ‘view’, Informative, educational, interesting, tolerant, accepting….WHY why why? Hmmm guess they’d need to bring back Rosie, Lisa Ling, Meredith..EVEN Star for that matter (she DID do her homework in the early days)…

When Lil Lizzy made her ridiculous pregnancy (act of God blessing) announcement I have wondered why the stupid, “gonna try and put this out before we summer break” or words to that effect…was she sending a sublimal message that:
    a) she’s not telling truth about due date
    b) her contract is not going to be renewed
    c) setting the stage for I’m going to stay at home and raise my children and develop my clothing line

Here’s hoping. Thanks for the vent. Still giving up watching the view for Lent.

  155. msroncon Says:

Good ole Tom Jones. He’s been running around with women his whole life.

His wife isn’t going to give up that gravy train.

  156. Joey Says:

    #54 RAnna is that you?

  157. Aileen Says:

Oh Lord I have been babysitting my crazy grand babies al day.. they finally asleep and I am finally relaxing.. now i have to catch up

  158. Aileen Says:

not sure I want to.. just watching the show now and the Octo mom stuff. Cant have a stand on eliminating babies.. but the irrisponsible aspect of making so many babies I can! With No job!! and no means! I would not side with Joy here and as she says.. after the fact.. to eliminate babies for any reason.. It’s my choice.. but I dont expect others to follow my choice for I do not live in their shoes…

    I’m just saying…

  159. Aileen Says:

Today.. I must say, BW was totally relevant and a good moderater.. for a change but good.. wtg BW

I am commenting without reading the posts.. just watching..

  160. rainlillie Says:

Let’s play how is TLB going to go after President Obama? If you watch the show today keep the volume control nearby. She’s going to have one of her tantrums, if they discuss the Presidents speech.

  161. rainlillie Says:

    Aileen,
I’m not a BW fan, but I like her better than Whoopi as moderator. I posted the Bonnie Hunt reenactment of the View on my blog. I was really surprised at how rude BW was and how snotty Joy was.

  162. berndoubt Says:

I’m going out for coffee with my girlfriend, so I’ll miss the live show and since lester94111 is too busy, I won’t see the show at all. I’m sure the howler monkey will be using the Bobby Jindal phrase “Americans can”. He said it a bunch of times and I’m sure she will, too.

And as to yesterday, Aileen, I think Barbara was pretty good at moderator, too. Is she just too feminine and high society to be the boss lady? So she chooses Meredith, Rosie and now Whoopi who are all more coarse, so she doesn’t have to break a nail. She seems to play up Bill Geddies bossman role, which also seems to be part of her iron fist in a velvet glove crap.

  163. Roger from Ohio Says:

    #160 rainlillie–

Whoopi will be back… so she might start a rant…. but they will go to a commercial break shortly after that. Then come back talking about a reality show.
