The View February 7th Recap: Gary Dourdan and Iron Chef Cat Cora

by

gary-dourdan.jpgWhoopi Goldberg started The View telling the people in the south affected by the tornadoes on Tuesday night that everyone’s thoughts and prayers were with them.

Chelsea Clinton called Elisabeth Hasselbeck Thursday morning while she was getting ready for work. She missed her call, but Chelsea left her a message asking her to call if she had any questions and maybe should could consider supporting her mom down the road. Elisabeth said that she would love to support Hillary Clinton down the line because she would love to have a woman in the White House, if only Hillary would “tweak” some of her policies. The Huffington Post criticized The View because when they did their impression of Chelsea their voices were “drippy.” Joy said that they were not making fun of her, they were just saying that she came off as shy.

Joy went to a Friars Club event where she dedicated a room named after Lucille Ball. It is the first time that a woman was named after a woman and they only did it after Joy “made a stink” about it. Joy was the first woman to be a “roast master” at the club.

On Good Morning America, Robin Roberts modeled on a catwalk, showing off her bald head. The hosts were all dared to do something and hers was that she would do that without her wig that she wears after her chemotherapy. Sherri said that she just looked so beautiful. Elisabeth shaved her mom’s head once she started losing her hair from chemotherapy. She said that Robin being bald in that setting, at fashion week, is really a statement.

Sherri Shepherd said that Paris Hilton had an event, where 50 Cent performed. At one point she jumped on the stage and he told her to “get the “blank” off the stage” and she started crying. Sherri said that you shouldn’t jump on the stage when he is performing unless you are invited up. Joy said that she should let someone else get the attention for once. Whoopi said, “It was her party, she can dance if you want to.” Elisabeth said that 50 Cent is denying that he said that to her.

Lindsay Lohan said “What was I thinking” about her behavior in the past. Whoopi said, “Well done,” to her for doing some reflection. Sherri said that she admires her for admitting that it is a struggle and she still wants to go party. Sherri said that now that she is older she can’t go out and get up and go to work like she used to and now has to get to bed early. Joy said that everyone has a party stage and hers happened when she was 40. She said it was better then because she was older and knew what she was doing.

Heath Ledger’s autopsy results have come back and he died accidentally as a result of a mixture of prescription drugs. Whoopi said that people are told on television to get all these medications and it can lead to adverse reactions. Elisabeth said that there have been some commenters saying that you don’t know it was an accident unless you know his intent. One article called Heath greedy and selfish. Elisabeth said that he was dealing with demons and it was sad to her to read that because the author doesn’t know him. Sherri said that the article was completely devoid of an compassion. Whoopi said that if you say cry for his wife and his daughter, then you should cry for him too. Whoopi said that it has happened to her where you take a pill and it doesn’t work right away, so you take another one, or maybe something else instead and it can really affect you negatively. Joy said that if you are taking anxiety medication you should see a psychopharmacologist to monitor your intake.

Britney Spears took herself out of the hospital and they showed a clip of the paparazzi swarming her on the highway when she was stopped in traffic. Whoopi said that when her daughter had her first baby, someone at the hospital called the press because they wanted a photo of her daughter, who was very young at the time. Britney did not tip off the press though. Sherri said that she is praying for Britney because she is scared for her children. Joy said that they should ship to her some country where no one knows her. Elisabeth said that she is known worldwide.

Elisabeth then announced a giveaway of the Motiva Fitness watch by Mio.

If Hillary Clinton was a man would you vote for her? Elisabeth said that she would not vote for her either way because of her politics. Joy said that for her it is all about policy and as long and she is on her team she would vote for her. Sherri said that she thinks that if Hillary Clinton was a man, she would vote for Barack Obama because he is a Black man and she would love to see a Black person in the White House. Whoopi said that it is good to have someone in office who can explain why she may disagree with you and may help you think a different way. Elisabeth said that she likes John McCain because he has gone against the party on issues that he believed in. Joy said that she doesn’t understand why the Republicans are concerned about him because he is conservative in all his policies. Whoopi said that people don’t like the immigration reform ideas that he suggested. Joy said that is why Rush Limbaugh hates him. Also he is against water boarding and torture which angers them. Whoopi said that she wonders how they would feel if it was done to them.

Gary Dourdan from CSI appeared on the show. Last year he had a run in with the paparazzi after telling them to back off with the video camera and he lost his temper. He warned others not to lose their temper. He said that they need to make some laws to protect people’s privacy and their conversations.

His character on CSI is a compulsive gambler and a drug addict. He said when he started, “Why did the Black guy have to have the problems?” He said that all the actors he admired have been bad guys, though, so he embraced the role. The show is the number one show in Black households.

He said that he learns a lot on the show, but could never do the CSI stuff in real life. He has a film on DVD called Black August about George Jackson, a man who became a prison activist.

Iron Chef Cat Cora appeared on the show to the audience how to make a meal “to get your man in mood’s for Valentine’s Day.” Here are the items that she made:
*Pomegranate and White Wine Sangria
*Grilled Basque Rubbed Shrimp and Avocado Skewers with Romesco Sauce
*Grilled Asparagus with Meyer Lemon Butter and Kasseri Cheese
*Candied Ginger and Berry Clafouti with Chocolate

FROM RECAP: Elisabeth said that she likes John McCain because he has gone against the party on issues that he believed in.

    Huh?
How does this differ from Barack Obama? (this isn’t a plug for Barack, just that he too had a MAJOR disagreement with his party.)

Can you say flip-flop? (I can see EH supporting him as a much better choice than the Dem candidate, but that’s not what she said!)

  2. Stephanie Says:

I’m not really sure why Chelsea Clinton felt the need to call someone who has repeatedly criticized her father and openly said that she will NOT vote for hilary…

  3. Sandy Says:

I didn’t get to watch the show..but will make my little tid-bits about the recap.
    Thanks Winnie.

As to H.L. my sympathy to his family and friends.
Prescription meds can be just as dangerous, if not more so, than street drugs, absolutely! I have a big problem with the big drug companies and all their commercials. Everyday, if you watch TV, countless times a day, you have commercials telling you that you need this drug, or that drug. People who have pain, or sleepless nights, or are a little depressed, or hyper children, or whatever, just name it, and there is a drug for you. Of course people want to feel better and or be healthy, so they ask their DR. for these drugs. Mixing certain things is dangerous, even over the counter meds.
Our society is WAY TOO OVER drugged. Many Dr.’s prescribe meds, that are addictive too often for longer periods of time than necessary. And that’s my opinion. This is a big problem with me, and maybe you can tell. Prescription drugs at home where teens have easy access. …okay you get the idea, I’ll quit.

I am very saddened by the events going on with Brit. Just the whole situation is sad.

I really like Gary Dourdan, and CSI.

I understand Elisabeth’s position on John McCain. I like him as well, ..and it doesn’t bother me that he some times parts with his party. I like that about him. To me it infers that he’ll stand up for what he believes. He won’t just go along with what the rest of his party thinks or believes. IMO it takes a strong person to do that.
