The View January 6th Recap: America Ferrera, Ana Ortiz, and Joy Bauer

by Winnie McCarthy

Today on The View, all five hosts were present. Elisabeth Hasselbeck spoke about her grandfather who recently died. They showed a photo of him as a young man singing on the BBC. She said that the service was beautiful and he had a peaceful passing. She added that he lived a great life and they will all miss him.

The next topic was that Jeremy Piven sent Sherri Shepherd a text message at 1:30am in response to her comments about him being annoyed on the plane about her son Jeffrey. He apologized for not recognizing her at first and said that he could tell she is an incredible mother. She said that he also said he looked forward to seeing her “sooner rather than later” and she wondered what that meant. Joy thought maybe it was a booty call. (Barbara repeated several times that Piven was in a different time zone, so it was not that late when he sent it. Who cares?)

Barbara Walters talked again about her Patrick Swayze special which will air tomorrow night. She showed a clip of the interview where he talked about having angels supporting him, including his father.

Barbara said that people should be left alone when they go through their grief, mentioning the Travolta family. She said that the media say they will leave people alone, but then talk about it anyway. Then she acknowledged that she is doing it too, by mentioning it. She said that this interview is different though because he wanted to do it. Elisabeth said that no one is off limits anymore from the press and exploitation and often they write your story for you,. Joy said that the press gets a bad rap, but a lot of time the celebrities are looking for the attention. Whoopi said that is not the case most of the time, speaking from experience.

Sherri said that people are talking about the Obama girls being left alone, but they took pictures for People magazine and other things, so it is hard to know where to draw the line. Whoopi said that she would never let her daughter be photographed until she became pregnant and then she had to, so that she could control the situation. She said that in the last 15 years there is a new breed of paparazzi that won‘t respect your wishes not to photograph your children. Elisabeth said that they are even in your uterus these days and will show ultrasounds.

Barbara mentioned that she regretted making her daughter do press for her book, because she is so private. She thinks that the press will be respectful of the Obama children, because they stayed away from the Carter daughter and have not covered Caroline Kennedy until recently.

Oprah Winfrey has admitted she weighs 200 pounds and admits to relying on food to deal with anxiety. Joy said that there is medication available for anxiety. (They covered the Oprah story at the end of last year, why do they need to talk about it again?) Barbara said that Oprah said she is overwhelmed and that is expected because she is doing so many different things.

Whoopi said that she is not overwhelmed like Oprah, but just convinces herself that she looks good and that she can have chips. Then she cannot stop herself. Joy said that it is like alcoholism. Sherri said that she was addicted to Pinkberry, but now is addicted to M&Ms and even got them out of the trash after she threw them away. Elisabeth said to put soap on it so you won’t eat them. Then Barbara said, “Back to Oprah…” (I guess Barbara thinks that the hosts themselves are not interesting enough and people would rather hear them talk about Oprah? I would have rather heard more of their own thoughts/experiences).

Joy said that Oprah is more popular when she is overweight. Barbara said that she did not think that was the reason. Joy said that personally she loses weight when she gets paid. She lost weight when she was spokesperson for Jenny Craig. Sherri said that Kirstie Alley did that, too, but gained it all back. Whoopi said that she was paid to lose weight, too, but still ate the potato chips. She had a bag and a half yesterday. Elisabeth told her that was okay and to own that. Whoopi said, though, that when you are feeling bad and the clothes aren’t fitting and you don’t like looking in the mirror, then that is a problem, noting that someone will be on later in the show to talk about weight loss (what a coincidence!!)

The White House cat died over the weekend. I think Whoopi’s cat sent a message to the Bush family. I am not sure, because my area had a test of the emergency alert system at that point.

Joy gave away the ending of Marley and Me.

Whoopi mentioned that Al Franken has won the recount in Minnesota.

Elisabeth read an article that said that the attack on Caroline Kennedy and her career path is unfair because the way women’s career path may go is different than men. The article also said that people should focus on the fact that they have raised a family. Elisabeth said that moms need a CEO label because of the organizing that it requires, noting she ran out of craft projects during the break. Joy joked that her own career path was like a drunken sailor, bouncing around to different jobs. She noted she worked at a mental health hospital, which prepared her to work on The View.

America Ferrera and Ana Ortiz from Ugly Betty appeared on the show. Barbara said that America is very pretty, even though her character is not attractive. America said that people often tell her that she looks like America Ferrera or like Betty, usually accompanied by “I don‘t mean to insult you, but . . .” She said that sometimes people will tell her she looks like America Ferrera, only prettier.

America and Ana have a joint New Year’s resolution to get their Spanish on point, especially because many fans of the show approach them speaking Spanish. They know Spanish, but don’t feel that comfortable speaking it. Both grew up in Spanish-speaking homes, but their friends growing up spoke English.

The biggest adjustment of moving the show to NYC is the weather. Ana grew up in NYC, but got spoiled living in LA. She said that they get a lot of support while filming, especially from the people in Queens. America is nominated for a Golden Globe. She has not picked out a dress yet. She said that Betty and the red-carpet persona are extreme versions of her and neither is really her.

America said that this season is much more about Betty’s relationship to her family and that her truest love will come when she blossoms into who she is supposed to be. Barbara said that in an upcoming episode she has to chose between family and work and asked if they have had to make that choice. Ana said that when she moved to LA from NYC, it was huge adjustment for her husband, who had to leave behind his family, but he was able to pick up and move with her. She said that had he not agreed, she would have still moved and they would have had to make it work living on separate coasts.

America campaigned for Hillary Clinton this year, her first foray into the political movement. She said it was exciting because everyone was getting involved, no matter which side they were on.

The next segment was “six weight loss secrets for life,” featuring Joy Bauer, author of Joy’s Life Diet. Here are her secrets:

1. Get your head in the game: remind yourself everyday why you want to lose weight to motivate yourself.
2. Cut out added sugar (both real and artificial) for the first seven days.
3. Revel in unlimited foods: non-starch vegetables, herbal teas
4. Walk off craving; take a brisk 30 minute walk everyday
5. Start dinner with vegetables, like a soup or salad
6. Lose the high calorie beverages, like soda

During the part about walking, to make the point of how many calories that would burn in a year, they had a giant pile of M&M packages. Sherri said, “So if I walk 30 minutes a day, I can have all these?” Bauer said no, that was how much she could lose. Sherri seemed rather disappointed.

  1. susieq Says:

So, the View has Perez Hilton as a guest yesterday and today they are again saying the media should give celebs more privacy. That’s like serving prime rib for dinner while insisting you’re a vegetarian.

You just knew Jeremy Piven was going to have to acknowledge Sherri’s airplane story. But it was probably his publicist that sent the text.

Still no discussion about Bill Richardson pulling out as Commerce Secretary or what is going on in the Middle East but yet they talk about Bush’s cat.

Marley and Me is still #1 at the box office so people are still going to see it. Joy should not have talked about the ending. I remember years ago seeing Michael Douglas on a show give away the ending to “War of the Roses”. I was furious.

  2. lurker315 Says:

Perez or TMZ (I forget which) is reporting that Kathy Griffin is unbanned from the View.
Do you think they will have her back? Will she agree to tone it down? Should she?

I’d love to see her take on some of the Hot Topics and the hosts.

  3. Jenn Says:

Shame on Joy — she should have known better — you don’t ruin the storyline of a good movie — even if it was a book and the ending is undoubtedly the same. That was really rotten….

  4. rainlillie Says:

Oprah looks fine to me. I don’t understand the whole obsession with being thin. Just eat healthy and stay active. I don’t know how anyone can live life constantly being on a diet. Are we ever going to reach a point where people will realize that everyone can’t be the same size?

  5. NOTIMPRESSED Says:

Yah..it amazes me that because Oprah has gained 40..I would guess more…that she has to bring it to the national media and apologize that she has let herself go…who gives a rip…just get back on track and lose it again like everyone else has to do at some point in their life…

Celebrities always feel the need to cover their asses..not matter what their problems.

    Everybody’s human..deal with it!!!

  6. rainlillie Says:

    NOTIMPRESSED,

Your posts always make me …. Thanks!

  7. heatherspeaks Says:

love the recaps because i often miss the show due to my daughter winning our tv viewing rights. she loves yo gabba gabba and i can never deny anything to that sweet little face.
i’m only able to watch if she happens to take an early nap.
    thank goodness for winnie’s recaps.

  8. Vickie Says:

I haven’t seen the show yet because I am at work but took a peek at Winnie’s recap. I look forward to Patrick Swayze’s interview. However, I am always intrigued by the notion of angels. Apparently he said that angels, including his father, have been watching over him. I have had situations in my life in which people, books, songs, sun have been like angels to me, no doubt helping me through. But angels are not departed human beings; they are two separate entities. For what it’s worth.

  9. berndoubt Says:

I have to say that I am sick to death of diet experts who have to show the mountain of sugar or the pile of candy packets to demonstrate their latest take on dieting, which is just the same as it’s always been, fewer calories in, more calories out. Yes, as an aside, I am carrying a few more pounds than I’d like, which may make me a little more sensitive to it, but do we really need to put a huge pile of M&Ms in front of a woman who clearly has no will power. Is that fun? Is that entertaining? And Bitsy giving Whoopi the green light to “own” her ingestion of chips is so clearly part of Bity’s need to be the thin one, that it reeked all the way through my television into my front room.

Hey, anybody who doesn’t live around Chicago, which needed it’s emergency broadcast system tested today, what great pearls of wisdom did we get from Whoopi’s cat Oliver about the death of Bush’s cat? Please, enlighten me with the deep insight!

  10. Roger from Ohio Says:

    BREAKING NEWS!!!

    OPRAH WEIGHS 200LBS

The killing paused in Iraq, The killing paused in Gaza, The new 111th Congress had a moment of silence to morn this news.

I was embarrassed for the show for covering this “important” information.

  11. Elsie Says:

Ha! I noticed Winnie’s irritation w/BW in parenthesis (sp.?). I, too totally agreed w/Winnie on all those points. Time diff. between NY & L.A.(We get it Bab, Jeremy did NOT stay up ’till 1am emailing Sherri!) Oprah’s weight (yawn!) is soo last yr.! (And I’m taking this a little personal!);( But, back to Oprah!, she’s so overwhelmed. Hey, me too. Working all the time, kids, laundry, cooking, mall trips, etc. Oh, but I don’t have not one eighth of a mill. Joy, the ‘Sea Food’ diet joke is so tired. Put it to rest.

  12. lynn c Says:

I know I said I wasn’t watching but the TV was on and I was,um, busy(read: lazy)- egads, what a pack of boring people! Can BW never shut up? She treats audiences like dimwitted 5 yr olds. She was so busy trying to brown nose Jeremy Pivens she hardly let SS tell the darned story! Who cares??? Idiots. This show, really, is baloney. I would love a panel of smart women who could bring their views to us, not these has beens………….

  13. Jennie Says:

Show was alright today. The text message thing was silly. I couldn’t never televise my text messages. :-)

    Btw, Hi Roger!

I was happy to see the diet stuff on the show. Yeah same diet info different year. I wasn’t impressed with the author. Yeah, I giggled when EH said it was ok for Whoopi to eat a bag and a half of chips. Think EH would ever do such a thing? I would love to know what her diet secrets are!

I am very happy to report that my partner has joined me in eating healthy. I started exercising with “My fitness Coach” for the Wii 30 mins a day and I have lost 6 lbs since last Friday. This game is a lot better than Wii fit. I actually get a sweat going and feel great after. I definately recommend it for those of us who can’t make it to the gym.

  14. marilyn Says:

It is very unusual for me to “post” before I have seen the show. However, because Oprah’s weight gain came up in the discussions, I have to put my two cents worth into the pot. I totally agree with those of you who think Oprah has “milked” this weight gain / lost to death. I suppose she feels a need to show the world she is “common folk”, too. After all, she is the one who has talked about heath and diets: FOREVER. Good luck to you, Oprah….. but I see no reason to make 2009 another Rehab Show. Been there- done it. IMO.

  15. Sandy Says:

    Thanks Winnie,
Even if i watch the show, I like to read your recap, it helps jog my memory.

I did see the show today, it was alright. Nothing really stands out, that I feel compelled to comment about.

  16. Aileen Says:

This show is on the fast track to becoming totally irrelevant. BW facial expressions are killing me these days. She looks like a deer in the headlights bug eyed with her skin so taught from all her face lifts. She can hardly move her lips now. How the heck is Oprahs weight the top story of the day? Is her poop no longer the leading story? (Oprahs obsessed with S shaped poops for those of you who dont know)

Actually I thought it was kinda cool that Jeremy P had text SS but what I got from it was that if SS was not somewhat famous, would she of received the text and sort of apology? NOPE.

    I’m just saying….

  17. Roger from Ohio Says:

Alright… I may be out of line her…. but here goes.

Has The View decided to remove the interest from its show? Are they going to stop being informative and work on “dumbing down” their audience?

Lets take a look at today’s “Hot Topics”

    – Elisabeth Hasselbeck spoke about her grandfather who recently died.
    – Jeremy Piven sent Sherri Shepherd a text message (follow-up from yesterday)
    – Barbara Walters talked again about her Patrick Swayze special (showed another clip…why watch it now?)
    – the “disrespecting” press and paparazzi… and how “THEY” are bad… The View is part of the “press”
    – Oprah Winfrey has admitted she weighs 200 pounds
    – The White House cat died over the weekend.
    – Joy gave away the ending of Marley and Me.
    – Whoopi mentioned that Al Franken has won the recount in Minnesota.
    – Elisabeth read an article that said that the attack on Caroline Kennedy and her career path
    _____________________________________________________

Which of these topics were suppose to be HOT? I dont want to be critical all the time, but I do kinda expect to be talked to on an adult level…… I do know that California is on a different time zone…. I watch to be informed and entertained… today, neither happened….. very disappointing.

  18. heatherspeaks Says:

    i agree roger.
i’m starting to wonder if i’ll ever tune in again.
    after the election, show seems…blah.
i remember around that time the panel was wondering what they would talk about once the election was over…we now know.

  19. Roger from Ohio Says:

    Hi Jennie!

Im gonna have to look into getting one of those Wii

a side note that I just thought of thanks to Aileen—

Actually I thought it was kinda cool that Jeremy P had text SS but what I got from it was that if SS was not somewhat famous, would she of received the text and sort of apology? NOPE.

How did Jeremy P get Sherri’s email address or phone number? Did this email/text message actually happen, or did “his people contact her people” and they had this “public relations” event for the both of them?

  20. Aileen Says:

    Heya Roga Dahlink,

I am assuming, his peeps called her peeps. Who actually knows if it was his phone or his peepers phone. All I know this this is definitely a stunt to make him less chilly in reacting to peeps wee ones. Like I said, if she was recognizably famous, his reaction would of been different in fear of just what happened. One wouldnt need an apology if he acted appropriately to begin with.

    I’m just saying….

  21. lilkunta Says:

    @berndoubt
    I AGREE

  22. Roger from Ohio Says:

I want to say sorry for being so harsh about parenting. Not having a child, Im sure I have missed out on many joyful and painful moments that most of you have endured.
I would never mean to belittle the experiences that you have enjoyed with your children. Im sorry if you felt that I did that.

I suppose that I feel like I can say here things that I was not allowed to say to my sister or my brother. I feel that both of them made mistakes with their children, but it wasnt “my place” to tell them what I thought… I was also dismissed by them because I didnt have kids. They made excuses for misbehavior on medical reasons, and by saying things like…. they are so young they dont understand, but declined to use “teaching moments” to help them understand.

I could go on but it would just be rambling…. so I just want to say…. Im sorry if I offended, it wasnt my intent.

  23. kaytee Says:

I missed the show today and just read the recap. It doesn’t sound like I missed much. Thanks for the recap Winnie, its very detailed.

  24. Roger from Ohio Says:

dang it… my 22 post was supposed to be on the other thread…. sorry to interrupt :)

  25. susieq Says:

I think the View has finally been exposed as being……irrelevant. When the election was happening they were actually discussing what the rest of the country was discussing, although not as articulately. But now Sherri and Elisabeth are using the show as a forum to get apologies after they feel they have been slighted. Whoopie is collecting a paycheck, Barbara is using the show as a commercial for her specials and even Joy seems bored.

Barbara has always said she created the show to showcase issues relevant to todays women. Well, she is failing.

Without the partisan fireworks between Elisabeth and the rest the show is lacking in any sort of spark at all.

I actually get greater pleasure coming to this site blogging with all of you than I do watching the show.

  26. Erika Says:

BW got on my nerves too. ITA with Winnie’s observations and thought the same thing about the time zones. She seemed extra-pushy today and interruptive. I also agree with Aileen on BW’s face, especially in the PS interview-I think her hair style exaggerated her face-lift look.

I caught part of Oprah’s show last night in repeat where she was talking about meal planning and exercising and making yourself a priority; I thought she focused more on health and less on weight and gave good advice in general. I didn’t feel it was exhibitionistic or gratuitous, but thought it was more a real-life struggle that she is continually learning to deal with in a better way. I think the biggest part for her was recognizing the mindset that accompanies her over-eating. She really didn’t know she had disconnected until it was pointed out to her by her trainer. Psychologically, I found that interesting.

  27. berndoubt Says:

Others have said it before, but I think it bears repeating that a panel of five of us would make for a more interesting show than what I witnessed today.

Hey, Roger, I was one of those aunts that didn’t hold my tongue when my older sibs were raising their kids and I didn’t have any kids yet. I got plenty of grief for it, too. And I got grief when I really did raise mine the way I said I would (for the most part). My oldest brother complimented my parenting by saying that I was lucky to be able to learn from their mistakes.

So, here are my two cents on parenting…not everyone wants to deal with your “sweet, precious darlings”, who aren’t really so sweet or precious when they are tearing up and down the grocery store aisles…so, you wanted them…you got ‘em…now take responsibility for ‘em. And one more thing, on a recent vacation to a waterpark I watched a couple with a son about my own son’s age (fifteenish) and size (biggish). Their son had a developmental disability which was not very obvious until he acted out a little at the pool or in the hotel restaurant. I really didn’t see anyone that seemed to mind it, because the couple was with him and helped keep his minor upsets from escalating. I think that’s another key to parenting as has been pointed out here, if it looks like the parents are trying, most normal people won’t mind. It’s when parents seem to ignore bad behavior, whether or not the child has a disability that I get upset and not just for my inconvenience, but because a child with developmental problems needs consistency and boundaires even more than other children.

  28. rainlillie Says:

Maybe I should send my niece to visit aunt Bern for a week or two. I agree with all your points.

  29. berndoubt Says:

I’m strict, but loving! You might want to give your niece one more chance before you punish her with a trip to boot camp with Auntie! LOL!

  30. kaytee Says:

    berndoubt,
thank you so much for your comments #27, my sentiments exactly. I just pretty much said the same thing on yesterday’s page.

  31. berndoubt Says:

I guess this belongs on yesterday’s page, sorry about that, so I’ll click over there! Great minds think alike!

  32. Sandy Says:

I fully agree with Berndoubt and most of what I’ve read concerning parenting issues, yesterday & today. Children NEED boundaries and discipline, just as much as love & as much of your time as you can give them.

I myself, just don’t want to comment on Sherri’s parenting style. I don’t feel I know enough about her parenting to comment on it.
I’ve heard her mention a few things that I would handle differently, I will admit.
I just wouldn’t feel right saying she doesn’t parent her child well. that’s just me.

  33. Sandy Says:

    oops sorry, me too

  34. joey Says:

One of the things that bothers me the most is when parents put their children in situations they don’t need to be in. For most toddlers, symphony concerts, theatre presentations, most movies and fine-dining are just a few of the things that are inappropriate for the wee ones. When they act out there they are truly interfering with others enjoyment.

My son loved eating out but he soon learned that poor behavior meant certain removal from the restaurant, even if the meal had just been served. He also knew it meant staying at home with a sitter the next time we ate out; it didn’t take long for him to get the picture and dining out is something we continue to enjoy and share. We have had several concert and theatre experiences ruined by people who think that a three year old might enjoy a three hour of Mozart or a serious drama. As they get older they can, and should be, exposed to a wider range of situations but it should be for them and not for the parent’s convenience.

Travelling with a babe is often unavoidable, and tired cranky overexcited kids are part of the package…but when I have saved up my few pennies and waited months to dine out in a great restaurant I resent my time their being disturbed by a four year old who would prefer to be at home with a PB&J sammie or at Micky Ds.

Age appropriate activities are very important and help kids feel successful.

  35. joey Says:

Please excuse the many typos…my medication hasn’t qiute kicked in yet…Just Kidding!

  36. Jennie Says:

I agree Joey! I haven’t been “out” in awhile now. Last outing was an Elmo concert. We had a blast. Great for all ages. Eating out is hard and he decides how long we stay. Those little fish crackers and some coloring usually does the trick tho.

Oh and btw my little guy is also a huge Yo Gabba Gabba fan!

  37. Roger from Ohio Says:

I dont know Jennie….. Yo Gabba Gabba sounds kinda scary to me

    #34 Joey–

That is a very good point.

This just came to mind….. How would it be accepted if a couple of adults came into a children’s program…. drinking, cussing, acting like adults, ignoring their surroundings.
I think that most parents would freak out, talk about how bad these people are acting around their children.
That might be a little extreme…. but is it really all that different?

  38. Aileen Says:

    Roga Dahlink…

You dont have to apologize for having an opinion. It is so much easier raising kids with a spouse than doing it yourself. You have someone to bounce things off on and support you and also take turns as the bad/good guy.

My oldest (daughter) I made alot of mistakes with. Should of been easier on her, maybe not of made her take responsibility for the household and babysitting her brothers after school, less rewards for all her hard work… But seeing my mistakes, her brothers benefitted from it! They will be more normal. I now am paying for it for the rest of my life babysitting her kids on my few days off in lieu of therapy for her.

    I’m just saying….

  39. Roger from Ohio Says:

I bet babysitting is a lot cheaper than therapy would be…. more rewarding also.

One day, if I ever become a parent… I promise to pop in here to get guidance from you “experts” …. and no Im not being snarky… I do respect all of you parents and what you have gone/will go through.

    BTW Aileen…. love the accent.

  40. Aileen Says:

Very good points Joey and Roja,

I remember taking all my 4 kids into the city for a play and dinner. I had made reservations weeks in advance in a fine dining establishment. When we finally arrived, they looked at all my kids in tow and just stared at me. Then they tried to seat me by the kitchen, I screamed and they finally sat us in the Dining room. Needless to say, the dinner was perfect and not one issue with kids ranging from 3 - 15. My kids knew how to behave and had impecable table manners. Not an elbow on the table. People were always surprised by my kids behavior out or in their home.

How you do it is.. when they are little, you can threaten them with god, a little older, you can use Santa Claus, a little older, I called it eletrical grounding. (indoor grounding is meant to punish the parent not the kid) Electric grounding is anything that runs on electricity or batteries are banned. Then a little older, when none of the above works anymore, you just threaten to smash their face in. That works the best.

    I’m just saying………

  41. joey Says:

    #40

LOL!! I can’t tell you the visual I got when I read “electrical grounding”. Sort of a home version of Electric Shock Therapy involving electric outlets…I’m glad you clarified…

  42. Jennie Says:

Roger you don’t have any kids yet? Wow! Either you are very young and or smart. I can’t stand the family who just had # 18. I mean seriously get some birth control already! Anyways, with 17 kids who has the time to do it??!!

  43. Jennie Says:

Grounding didn’t work when I was growing up. We weren’t allowed to do anything anyways. My parents were uber strict. No wonder we all moved out on our 18th b-days. I ran off to Europe with my boyfriend and made up for many lost years.

  44. berndoubt Says:

New hot topic…what Jennie did to make up for the many lost years…we’re waiting…**head in hands propped up in front of monitor**

  45. Aileen Says:

    Bern….

    I wonder if it involved….

    whips… chips…. chains and dip…..

Sounds like a funky soiree to me…

Joey - LMAOO!!! You gave me the visual too!

    I’m just saying….

  46. Jennie Says:

U know the usual. Drink, party, lots of sex, and rock n’ roll. My point being…too strict is never good.

  47. Jennie Says:

Woah, Aileen…that’s kinky in a weird way. What kind of soiree’s are you having?

    Atleast your guests leave satisfied.

  48. Aileen Says:

LMAOO Jennie, its actually a line from the movie “Weird Science”.

usually my guests are certainly satisfied.. I aim to please…

  49. NanC Says:

I am sure that BW had already given away the ending of Marley & Me, off to check the blog for the day Jennifer Anisten was a guest.

  50. Roger from Ohio Says:

    #42 Jennie–

Roger you don’t have any kids yet? Wow! Either you are very young and or smart. I can’t stand the family who just had # 18. I mean seriously get some birth control already! Anyways, with 17 kids who has the time to do it??!!

Nope… no kids yet…… Im not all that young… I guess my “biological clock” is ticking  Im not sure how smart I am for not having kids, but it does help me keep my youthful figure.

Think about it a little… with 17 kids…. you have at least 5 “parents” to free up a lot of time to “create another miracle”

alright…. maybe that was a bit snarky.

Im with Berndoubt…. I want more “lost years” details.

  51. Roger from Ohio Says:

    #48 Aileen–

usually my guests are certainly satisfied.. I aim to please…

Sounds like more details are needed here too!!

Really Elisabeth they have printed photos of ultrasounds? I would like one example.

I am one of those people that believe if you are in the movies and fans pay your wage, then you give up your privacy.

Political figures also. Extended families are off limits unless the parent or they themselves want their picture or story.

These people are millionaires. I do not feel sorry for them one single bit.

  53. Jennie Says:

Lost years…well I was 18 in Paris and Brussles. Sex, drugs, music. It was a blast! Then I got married…oh god…yes…I did at 19. Not such a good idea. Divorced a year and a half later. Dated a lot. Got my own place right by the EU in Brussels. Dated my boss for a while. Euh, then decided to come home to go to school.

That’s really it. Now, I am new mommie and live with my partner (hope one day husband)in our new home. I am very happy.

I totally agree with you msroncon

If it is too difficult for these people to be famous, then they should get out of the public eye. There are plenty of people that have been more famous than Whoopi Goldberg, who hung up their fame and got out of the public eye. There were some people that were disappointed but they got over it. It took a couple of months, but they became fans of other people.

Yes these people are “special” because they are in the public eye, but each and every “famous person” can be replaced without a problem. We all know the stories… being famous just means you were in the right place at the right time… simple as that.

If being famous is too tough…. you have enough money… hang it up…. just stop complaining that you dont have all the privacy that you feel like you deserve.

  55. Aileen Says:

I am not so sure about the fame thing and losing privacy. Some peeps get into the game for a craft..not the paps. Like I say SOME. A just job, does not entitle the world to peer in and you lose your ability to have a relationship that is plastered on the web. How did the job as an actor = no privacy because you make more money? The few celebutards seem to of make that a standard for all. How did they all agree that is a truth? I am shocked that some of you think that should be a law. Regarless of our trade, we all deserve privacy. We may all enjoy our craft but because some are telented with a gift does not mean they lose their privacy. Fortunately for most artist, they know how to preserve their privacy which we dont see. Good for them. For the udda celebutards who we see in the media day in and day out.. well they are just looking for it. My opinion is that, No one deserves their privacy to be taken away due to a job title and fame. But one who acts out in the public surely does. The rest is smarter.

    I’m just saying…

    #13 Jennie..
Get the latest issue of US Weekly, Elisabeth is one of the featured celebrities discussing their ‘diet secrets’.

  57. Vegas Says:

Did anyone notice it was never mentioned when Elisabeths grandfather passed away? Yesterday she only said that she was in Ohio becuase of his death. I would think she would have said when she attended the funeral. And she didn’t even know how old he was! When she was asked she said ‘umm 86, 87?’ Wouldn’t she know this?
I think Elisabeth didn’t come to work Monday because Perez Hilton was on. After all, he refers to her as ‘Elisabitch’ and constantly ranks on her on his blog.I think she just didn’t want to be there with him.

  58. Vegas Says:

I also think Elisabeth is pregnant. I think she’s going to have one more and I wouldn’t be surprised if she announces a pregnancy soon.

  59. berndoubt Says:

Just weighing in to say that I am appalled that Jeremy Piven needed to send an apology to Sherri. It’s rumored that he’s a bit of a jerk, so I’m sure when his assistant sent the e-mail or text or whatever, it was part of an effort to save face.

Elisabeth might want to hire that assistant, since her save face campaign doesn’t seem to be working. Operation-Make-Her-Seem-At-Least-Partly-Human is a terrible failure!

  60. ShannonP Says:

I completely disagree that just because you are an actor or entertainer that you should lose your right to privacy, especially when it’s taken to the extreme like it is now and it basically turns into stalking. Some bring it on themselves, the Paris Hilton types, but most don’t and don’t deserve never have a moment of privacy just because they are rich or in the movies.
And Vegas, I think Elisabeth did talk about his funeral and that it was nice. Maybe she was talking quick about it so that she wouldn’t get emotional. Also, if he had Alzheimers like I think I heard her say, then it’s a slow process in losing them and you gradually can make peace with that and it’s not such a shock when they finally do die.

  61. mibi Says:

vegas he did satrday i’m pretty sure and the paper said the service was monday so i belive that is really were she was. i also agree with shannonp that she talk fast to not cry

  62. mibi Says:

    should say died saturday

  63. NanW. Says:

Vegas, I posted last weekend that EH’s grandfather died. I saw his obituary in our local(Cleveland) paper. It was under Filarski and it listed EH, Tim, Grace and Taylor, so I knew it was her family. I believe he died Friday or Sat. of last week.

  64. NanW. Says:

But I also thought it rather insensitive of Whoopie to make a big thing/silly joke about the White House cat dying on the day EH came back from her grandfather’s funeral.

  65. Roger from Ohio Says:

    Aileen, ShannonP

I re-read my post and I wasnt clear…. The tabloid “journalism” and the paparazzi that stalk these celebrities are just insane. It seems to me that a lot of law suits arent being filed that should be.

When I was talking about the complaining of the lack of privacy, I meant how Whoopi gets “offended” when she is confronted by fans…. How she says she cant be bothered when she is doing personal things.

Celebrities arent news makers, in my opinion, but when you meet someone that you are a fan of, they shouldnt get all up tight about that fan speaking to them…. if it werent for the fans these celebrities would be just another one of us. I dont think any of them really want that.

  66. cindyM Says:

Did anybody catch what Elizabeth was saying about men’s career by decades? What exactly did she say? I missed it.
