The View January 7th Recap: Tim Daly and Greg Behrendt

by Winnie McCarthy

Today on The View, Joy Behar was absent because she “had something to take care of,” whatever that means. The first topic was, um, The Bachelor. Whoopi Goldberg said she tried to watch it, but hated it. They showed a clip. Whoopi said she hated all the women and Barbara Walters said the show is enough to make men celibate. Sherri Shepherd said she couldn’t get into the show because the couples never stay together. Elisabeth said that you just need to have fun with it and not take it seriously. Whoopi suggested the man would be a good date for Sherri because they both have a small child and he seems like a good guy.

Whoopi likes Battlestar Galactica (I love that show!), Lost (that one too!) and The Cleaner. Barbara said that her favorite shows are always in limited run, liked Mad Men. Whoopi explained to her that the show was coming back next summer, but Barbara seemed in disbelief. (I also love that show! Really I do not watch that much television, they just happened to mention my three favorites).

Ronald Burris was turned away from the Capitol yesterday, but today Senator Harry Reid said that they will seat him. Sherri said that she feels bad for Burris because the seat is tainted. Whoopi thinks that it is outrageous for them to suggest that they will seat him only if does not run when the term is up. Elisabeth said that they are thinking that he will not be able to get elected when the term is up. Barbara said that is his decision to run or not. Elisabeth said it is hard for people to separate Burris from Blagojevich because he is so tainted. Whoopi said that as long your record is good, you should be seen as who you are, not the bonehead who appointed you. Barbara said that just because Elisabeth likes The Bachelor does not mean that she is a bonehead. Elisabeth said that she can like The Bachelor and understand The Constitution.

The former presidents are meeting with President -Elect Obama. Elisabeth thinks they will do presidential yoga together. They suggested that they could talk about the following topics: What to wear in a helicopter. The art of the salute. Some other stuff that was equally uninteresting. Whoopi thinks they should talk about a good tailor, because by the end of the term their suits are not looking as good.

Barbara wondered who Obama would choose to sit next to him. Elisabeth said that Barbara is obsessed with table seating. Barbara said that you put the most important person o your right. Elisabeth excitedly said, “Really?! (because she is normally to the right of Barbara). Today Sherri was to Barbara’s right, so Elisabeth asked three times if Sherri was her favorite today, but Barbara ignored her. They talked about how the presidents would be eating Mexican food, Whoopi said it gives her gas, and then they talked about gas. I’ll spare you the details.

A Michigan reverend tried to spend a year living like Jesus and found it to be difficult. He found it difficult to keep kosher and follow other rules. He picked up people who needed rides, which Barbara said is dangerous. Sherri thought it was interesting that the man voted for Obama because he was more like Jesus, even though he disagreed with him on some issues. Sherri said that she could not live like Jesus because of all the lustful thoughts going on in her head., but she tries. Elisabeth said she also tries, but falls way short. Whoopi said that she could live like Jesus because he was just a man who had emotions and uncertainty like the rest of us. Whoopi thinks the reverend, at the end of the year, probably called a lot of women.

Sherri was trying to keep Jeffrey from coming into her bed at night. Barbara told her to stop it by letting Jeffrey cry and not letting him in her bed. She had to keep taking him back to his bed all night.

Barbara showed another clip of her interview with Patrick Swayze, which airs tonight. In the clip, his wife talks about her love for him. After the clip, Barbara teared up a bit and Sherri asked her how she manages to keep it together during the interview. Barbara said that she just manages to do so during the interview, but now she is very emotional. Whoopi said that Patrick is a funny guy and always wanted to be a comic. During Ghost, he would try to make her laugh off screen by mooning her and other things.

Tim Daly appeared on the show to promote his show Private Practice. He was recently named “Sexiest Spin-Off Star” by People. He said it was silly and asked “Could they have narrowed the category anymore?” He said that a big bomb will drop in an upcoming epsiode of his show. He said that it is strange for his character to date Amy Brenneman, because she played his sister’s daughter in another show. Amy was on The View and said kissing him was like kissing her brother.

Whoopi was in a movie with Tim called The Associate.

There are a lot of babies on the set of Tim’s show. Tim said that he doesn’t understand parents who want their four month year old to be on television. He doesn’t understand the moms who let their baby cry for a scene.

Tim lives in Vermont and loves it there. He has been married 26 years and they have two adult children. His son did a guest starring spot on Grey’s Anatomy.

Greg Behrendt, author of He’s Just Not That into You, appeared on the show. The book has been made into a movie. He was inspired by The View, who talked about an episode of Sex and the City that he wrote that included the line “He’s Just Not That into You,” to write the book. The book is about how to evaluate your relationship if the man is not treating you the way you want to be treated.

Greg said that occasionally there are extenuating circumstances, but usually if a guy doesn’t call you, it is because he doesn’t like you. He said that you should be honest in a relationship and should tell the other person your intentions, like that you want to get married. He said just don’t push it on the other person.

He also has a television series called Wake-Up Call that will be on SoapNet. He helps couples sort through their issues. They showed a clip where he counseled an engaged couple where the woman forced it upon the man. He made the woman give him the ring back. Barbara said that she makes people face the truth. Elisabeth says he breaks them up. Greg said that if you try to force a couple to break up, they will fight it, but if you have them face the issues, they will reach the decision on their own.

Greg is also a stand-up comedian. He said that looking for the kernels of truth in everything is what makes things funny.

  1. Vegas Says:

Is it just me or is all the emphasis on this Patrick Swayze interview a bit morbid? Why is Barbara talking about this every single day and showing a new clip of the interview every day too? I can’t stand how Barbara is promoting what seems to be the countdown to Swayzes death!

And that clip they showed today was way too sad! How could Barbara ask Lisa (Patricks wife) has she contemplated life without Patrick yet! And then cut to all of them with tears welled up in their eyes, and Barbara proudly proclaiming how she can keep it together during the interview but just lost it seeing that particular clip. Whoopi is noticable very upset by this, I wish she would tell Barbara to stop capitalizing on his terminal illness.

Anyway, on a lighter note, I thought Whoopi looked good tday, and all it takes is a bit of lip gloss. Elisabeth looks like she got a new hairstyle, I like it.

I thought the explanation of Joys absence today was odd. I wonder what happened. Barbara made sure to blurt out ‘nothing serious’ but what did Whoopi say? Something about her having a conflict she needed to take care of?

  2. kaytee Says:

I really want to know what Joy had to take care of! hehehehe

  3. kaytee Says:

I am always amazed at all of the people that Whoopi has worked with.

  4. marilyn Says:

recap :”They suggested that they could talk about the following topics: What to wear in a helicopter. The art of the salute. Some other stuff that was equally uninteresting. ”

    * I thought this conversation was done with “tongue in cheek”. It was funny, IMO.

    * Although it feels like I have already seen BW ’s special tonight……. I am going to watch it. There must be something we have not seen on The View clips.

    * Did anyone else notice Elisabeth’s fuller cheeks? Cosmetic treatments or weight gain? I think she looks healthier and prettier. I like her hair, too.

  5. Stacee Says:

FROM THE RECAP: “They talked about how the presidents would be eating Mexican food, Whoopi said it gives her gas, and then they talked about gas. I’ll spare you the details.

    MY RESPONSE: Thank you!
I still have not gotten past the areas Whoopi washed when she travels by bus. TMI!!!

  6. Stacee Says:

Wimnie, we love Battlestar Gallactic too :-). This is (supposedly) the last season and frankly I am glad. They really need to sew up the storyline.

I can’t wait to see who is the last Cylon!
    :-D

  7. Peach Says:

I wonder if someone has a record of the days that Joy has been away and we could see if there is a pattern.

It is apparently something personal or it seems that way because of the way they explain it. Of course, if it’s personal - than we shouldn’t really know the reason.

They just need to explain her absence in a better way - and not seem so scattered about it. Surely one of the writers on the show could come up with an explanation that would not make us wonder.

  8. Stacee Says:

That should have been Winnie….sorry about the misspelling

  9. Stacee Says:

FROM THE RECAP: “Today Sherri was to Barbara’s right, so Elisabeth asked three times if Sherri was her favorite today, but Barbara ignored her.”

MY RESPONSE: LOL, that was funny.

  10. ShannonP Says:

When a host is gone, I think they should just say “so and so won’t be joining us today but will be back tomorrow” and move on. Unless the person wants people to know, like for a funeral or a gig or whatever. Otherwise it’s really no one elses business and no need to overcomplicate it.

  11. marthe Says:

BW calls herself a journalist and she doesn’t even know how to pronounce a senator’s name? And then of course bitsy repeats BWs mispronunciation of Feinstein.

bits has the same haircut as Jenny on Gossip Girl.

  12. Roger from Ohio Says:

    From the recap…..

This is one of those “uninformed” comments. One of the “talking heads” came up with this idea to give Harry Reid a reason to “flop flop” It was picked up by other shows after that.
Harry Reid, or any other person in charge, never suggested that he could be seated if he promises not to run in 2010.
It would seem after 3 days of not talking about it, they could have discussed facts instead of rumor.

  13. Stacee Says:

ShannonP Says: “When a host is gone, I think they should just say “so and so won’t be joining us today but will be back tomorrow” and move on. Unless the person wants people to know, like for a funeral or a gig or whatever. Otherwise it’s really no one elses business and no need to overcomplicate it.”

    MY RESPONSE: I agree.

  14. Roger from Ohio Says:

I agree too Stacee… Im sure tomorrow Joy will tell us all about it.

It makes me wonder though…. when a host is gone, and they dont tell the reason why, do they get all kinds of phone calls asking about what the deal is? Maybe they tell so they dont get bombarded with phone calls.

  15. Roger from Ohio Says:

I know this will be “off-topic” I hope you all dont mind…. This has been bothering me for quite a while and I can never get a good answer.

Yesterday we had one of those store brought Rotisserie chickens. It was quite yummy, but it wasnt finished. Today, I took it out to finish and as usual, there was this gel attached to the bottom of the chicken and surrounding it.

Where did this gel come from? is it good for you? should it be eaten or tossed out? It seems icky so I dont eat it…. am I missing out on something?

Yes I do think too much….. sorry for the interruption….. back to our regular scheduled comments.

  16. Vegas Says:

Roger that ‘gel’ is just coagulated fat. Yummy huh?

  17. ShannonP Says:

    gag

  18. SouthExplosion Says:

I think Joy was suspended for 1 day because she told the ending to Marley and ME.

  19. berndoubt Says:

    #15, Schmaltz. Chicken fat. I don’t think it’s off-topic at all, really.

  20. Vegas Says:

#16.. Joy suspended? I don’t think so. Who cares that she said the dog dies in the movie?… I already knew this, didn’t read the book, have no desire to see the overated movie, and it’s obvious to me anyway that there was a death in the movie even before I knew the dog dies at that end because of so many people warning me to ‘take a box of tissues’ if I go see it. @@

  21. marthe Says:

I broke off a comfy relationship with a guy because I knew he wanted to be a father and it wasn’t going to happen for him with me. I told a girlfriend it was not like we had even talked about marriage. She said that is because you didn’t prep him.

At the same time, his roommate’s girlfriend gave the roomie a six month ultimatum. Either you agree to get married or it is over. They have 2 children now.

  22. Heather in LA Says:

ok, what was all that innuendo with whoop and tim? when bw said you guys go back a little ways he said ‘ we go back more than a little ways’ and WG beamed. were they involved? then later he mentions his wife of 26 years and she was not smiling. she does like her white men - Frank Langella, Ted Danson…

I love how, for the most part, guests come on and the warmth of their greeting progresses from a handshake with Bits to a peck on the cheek with Sherri and culminating with a bear hug for whoopie.

  23. Jennie Says:

Don’t eat that stuff! Ewww!! I usually pull all the skin off and tear it up. We make all kids of stuff with the leftover chicken. Fast super is chicken tacos and always a crowd pleaser.

I agree with Vegas. I think EH is expecting. A couple of months ago I posted on cafe mom that I thought Eh was pregnant. Due to mood swings and just looking different. Fuller face…healthier hair…shall we say a glow to her??? Wish it was me! I am so ready for #2. But my timing is bad and I really want my first to be done with diapers before we start that all over again.

Did I miss hear Babs today..or did she call EH a bone head?

I must admitt I am hooked to the Rock of Love show. What a train reck! I don’t know if any of you have seen this but…well not waste your time. It’s a bunch of STD ridden sluts who are trying to **** Bret Michaels. God help us.

  24. Heather in LA Says:

    Roger from Ohio Says:

Where did this gel come from? is it good for you? should it be eaten or tossed out? It seems icky so I dont eat it…. am I missing out on something?

that’s how you make chicken stock! skim the fat off and all the flavor is in the gelatin. if you reheat it with the chicken it makes a great sauce.

  25. Vegas Says:

Jennie, I also watch Rock Of Love. I think it’s hilarious! I also think Bret Michaels is a pretty nice guy and that he is only doing this show for entertainment. He cannot possibly think he will find the love of his life via this show! I recorded Rock Of Love Bus, haven’t had a chance to watch it yet but it looks even more trainwreckier than the previous seasons from what I have seen from the promos. LOL

  26. Roger from Ohio Says:

    #23 Jennie–

I must admitt I am hooked to the Rock of Love show. What a train reck! I don’t know if any of you have seen this but…well not waste your time. It’s a bunch of STD ridden sluts who are trying to **** Bret Michaels. God help us.

Ill admit, so you wont be the only one, that I tried to watch Rock of Love too….. I thought “what fun” a bunch of 1/2 naked chicks running around trying to impress….. I couldnt do it…. it was just way too nasty, none of they were “sexy”. There was another one called something like I love New York or something… that wasnt so bad.

I think these might be the new “reality” shows though… I am waiting for the next hot show…. something along the lines of ….. Americas next top hooker.

  27. GraceKelly Says:

    Roger;

I’m a retired dietitian to qualify myself. That is not fat but a gelatin caused by the combination of juices and the substance from the bone marrow that creates Jello. It melts down to a nice ‘au jus’. There is fat in it but it rises to the top to pick off.

    Famous dish called Consomme Madrilene.

    http://suzette.typepad.com/the_joy_of_soup/2001/09/jellied_madrile.html

  28. Roger from Ohio Says:

    #27 GraceKelly–

I went and looked at the “famous dish” Ill be honest…. it sounds just nasty. I can see how it could be made into a nice sauce, but as a soup?

Since you sound like an expert, in the receipt, it says to use condensed beef soup, could this Chicken gelatin be used instead?

It sounds nasty…. but Ill try it if you arent just messin with me. Not this time though, I already threw it away  If you arent foolin, Ill make a “soup” next time.

  29. Jennie Says:

    I have a question for you guys…

So if Blagojevich hasn’t been charged as of yet…does it mean he is innocent? I mean if he is guilty what are they waiting for?

If he is innocent then I think he could seat someone. If guilty then he shouldn’t.

    Just my thoughts….

I wonder what is “really” going on here.

  30. GraceKelly Says:

Don’t bother, I tried it once at a fancy restaurant and did not like it. Gelled cold beef with lemon. Yuk!

Now gazpacho is a different story. Very nice.

We may get thrown out of here with our recipes!

  31. Roger from Ohio Says:

    #29 Jennie–

So if Blagojevich hasn’t been charged as of yet…does it mean he is innocent? I mean if he is guilty what are they waiting for?…….. I wonder what is “really” going on here.

I have wondered the same things for a while now. What are they waiting for? They have been investigating and wiretapping for either 3 or 5 years.. I have heard both… how long does it take to get “evidence” of corruption?

Here is another wonderment…. while he has been under investigation, he has signed laws… pardoned people… done other things that governors do….. none of these other things were “tainted” and went through without a problem.

Im with you…. whats really going on here?

  32. Stacee Says:

Roger, it was first Flava of Love, starring Flava Flav. And I agree with what Vegas said, it’s more entertainment because there is no way these people are really truly looking for love

That show had spin offs; Charm School, Rock of Love and I love New York, which spun off to the Real Chance at Love (or something like that.

And yes I’m guilty of watching Flava of Love (he did like three seasons “looking for love” )& I love NY. They all come back year after year. It’s all ratings and entertainment. I finally stopped watching because at some point the entertainment turned into a train wreck.

Sorry for the many eye rolls, it’s just that it’s so eye roll worthy, IMO
    LOL ;-)

  33. marilyn Says:

    CHICKEN :

    * Because the word FOOD, was used in a sentence, by Whoopi………….. I think we are safe talking about the chicken.
I know it is a stretch but where there is a “will”, there is a “way”. ;-)

  34. Vegas Says:

    Stacee..
I never watched Flavor of Love, but I liked when Flava Flav and Bridgitte Nielson had a ‘romance’ on Surreal Life, and then they too had a spinoff ‘reality show’. She used to call him Foofi Foo. Those two were funny together, but I never believed for a minute they were a real couple. It was just for entertainment.

  35. berndoubt Says:

My understanding of the Blagojevich case is that there are perhaps other fish to dry in this investigation and they’re waiting for the evidence or that some people who were under investigation are now informing. I think Fitzpatrick decided to go public to avoid the senate appointment from being sold, because if it came out later that he could have stopped it but didn’t it wouldn’t look good. (I can hear my English teacher and see the glaring red marks all over that last sentence!)

Roger, you asked about this over the holidays and I didn’t get a chance to answer then, but this is probably what I’d have said.

Oh, and one more thing, in my opinion, Blagojevich is more bark than bite. Not to say that he isn’t corrupt, but this is Illinois and we have a pretty high standard as far as corruption goes. His father-in-law is a long-time Chicago politician and they are at odds and have been for a long time. I think the FIL wishes his SIL was more bite and less bark. See, when you’re corrupt, you should at least have the good sense to be quiet about it.

That being said, I don’t really see that Obama was any part of the machine politics and corruption. He may have had his picture taken with a few people who don’t like getting their pictures taken lately, but as a lifetime Chicagoan, I can tell you he doesn’t have that aura about him. I can’t explain crookedness, but I know it when I see it.

  36. berndoubt Says:

#35, fish to FRY. FRY. Or, you could dry them, if that seems like fun!

  37. marilyn Says:

    #32 STACEE ,

I’m lovin’ your “eye roll worthy” statement. IT reminded me of the Old Seinfeld Show, where Elaine,is stashing her birth control supply , because it was not going to be sold anymore. The men had to be “worthy ” of the limited supply. LOL

  38. Stacee Says:

    Vegas,

ahhhhhhhhhhh! How could I forget that one?!?
I never watched those shows, but I recall the Surreal Life re-launching Flava Flav’s career. He’s actually very funny and entertaining.
But when he would kiss girl after girl on the shows, I wanted to hurl. Ick.

  39. Stacee Says:

    LOL, marilyn!
I really really tried to hold back, but as you can see I could not contain myself!

Yes, I remember that Seinfeld episode!!! It was very funny! :-D

  40. Roger from Ohio Says:

    ahhhh the Surreal Life…..

I had to watch when Tammy Faye Baker and Ron Jeremy were living in the same house. There was one point where I thought the 2 of them were gonna “hook up” but (as far as I know) they didnt. I didnt realize that that was the show that started the whole “train wreck reality show”

All of those shows that Stacie mentioned in #32 along with the bachelor/bachelorette shows are just shows trying to show off future prostitute gold diggers.

  41. marthe Says:

When the Blago story first broke, I read up on him and he seemed to support good laws [read, liberal, pro-women], but he has no finesse.

My apartment gets insect plagues now and then. Who knew that ants liked dried shrimp?

Huffpo is reporting that Joe the Plumber is being sent to report on the Israel/Gaza issue by a conservative radio station.

I have less than six degrees of separation from Obama! A college buddy of my brother has been appointed the official White House photographer! Pete Souza was Reagan’s official photog, so again the wide tent. And we are going to get great photos!

  42. Jennie Says:

    I would like to ask a question…

Winnie, feel free to delete, if I may not talk about stuff like this anymore.

I am not looking for a fight. It’s a real question and I am wondering if you all are thinking the same.

How do you guys feel about the French president going to the middle east to try to negotiate peace, and our president is..well doing more important things????

People are all upset that Obama hasn’t been talking about what’s going on. He said today, that he will do something when he is in office and that the job for now is for President Bush. OK, Great…someone please let me know what the president is currently doing….

    http://www.csmonitor.com/2009/0105/p01s02-wome.html

  43. Aileen Says:

Marilyn - That was: “SPONGE” worthy. I still use that line today. I use that line if I think a man is sexy enough…

VH1 watchers - OMG… I am a VH1 Reality junkie watcher. I watch all the “Of Love” shows. Its something that is totally outrageous but cant stop watching. This new episode of Rock of Love was hysterical when that crack ho mumbling idiot silcone woman was reading a rap song she wrote to Brett and on the back of the page staring at Brett was instructions for STD’s treatments.. LMAOOOOOO  It doesnt take a genius to figure out why she was the first to go….

I cant believe we are blogging about these lame arse shows that we should not even admit to watching without losing our credibility here..

    Back to politics.. eh hem.

    I’m just saying….

  44. joey Says:

I thought EH was all about “girl power”.
“The Bachelor”,is the most horribly sexist show on TV. Yes world, that’s what all woman want to do…lose all their dignity competing with many other women over the ‘love’ of a man. This also may require sleeping with the guy only to be dumped on national TV a few days later. Then the most fun part is being carted off in a limo, weeping over a man they have known for a few weeks. I know it was always my dream. IMO

Oh and a pet peeve… about the “girl power” thing…after a certain age EH, girls become and are called WOMEN.

  45. Roger from Ohio Says:

    #42 Jennie–

How do you guys feel about the French president going to the middle east to try to negotiate peace, and our president is..well doing more important things????

Im actually glad that Bush hasnt said much about it. In my opinion, he could only make it worse (if thats possible) Bush wouldnt go over there looking for peace, but he would be looking to expand the violence.

It is time for peace in the middle east…. enough blowing up schools and hospitals…. If they dont want peace…. take away the American funding.

  46. Roger from Ohio Says:

    #43 Aileen–

I cant believe we are blogging about these lame arse shows that we should not even admit to watching without losing our credibility here..

Ill fall into your trap here….. I dont have the video, but I saw that Sharon Osbourne took offense on what one of the chicks on the “Rock of Love Charm School” and kicked her butt….

nevermind…. I went and found the video…. this is too rich.

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/01/05/sharon-osbourne-lashes-ou_n_155203.html?show_comment_id=19461796

  47. Aileen Says:

    Roga Dahlink…

I dont need the video, I watched it on Sunday when it aired. I rewound it 5 times and lmaoooooo. I made sure I watched the show before i flew out on Monday to San Diego. I dont get upper channels in my hotel room. You got to check out the Rock of Love new season. Its to trashy to be true. Good TV

    I’m just saying..

  48. Jennie Says:

    Hey Roger,

I think I may have found a new gf for you….

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cPUoNJdNGds

    <Vomits

  49. Aileen Says:

OMG Jennie!!!! You da best!!!! Roga Dahlink.. that it the skank ho I was talking about!!! Now that she is eliminated off the show, maybe she is available??????

    I’m Just saying…

  50. Aileen Says:

    Bring along your penicillin thou…

    I’m just saying..

  51. Roger from Ohio Says:

    #48 Jennie–

I think I may have found a new gf for you….

That video was called “DJ Lady Tribe (NIKKI) on Rock of Love Bus”

I need to get me a bus!!

  52. mibi Says:

whoppi wore makeup today she looked nice. I like eh hair.

  53. Roger from Ohio Says:

    In the recap….

The former presidents are meeting with President -Elect Obama……Barbara wondered who Obama would choose to sit next to him. Elisabeth said that Barbara is obsessed with table seating. Barbara said that you put the most important person on your right.

    The order was as follows:

    Bush 41
    Obama
    Bush 43
    Clinton

    Carter

And that was how they stood…. all were shoulder to shoulder except for Carter.. he stood off to the side… some say because he doesnt like Clinton…. some say because he doesnt like the spot light….. I think it is the latter.

  54. May Says:

Berndoubt, I had a good laugh over your correcting your earlier (#35)post from fish DRY to fish FRY! That struck me as funny!
When they spoke about Joy being absent today, Whoopi said “We’re thinking about you” as if some sort of test was being done..hope it’s ok. The hair of EH did look good today. She was given a fresh bleach job and bangs were cut. She does seem to look fresher and more puffier.I think it was funny that Whoopi seemed to dis the Bachelor show that EH had just swooned over.
on another note we saw “Marley and Me” today and the first half was cute but last part seemed to drag out forever with the dog lingering. It especially affected me in a sad way cause my yorkie has a bad heart murmer and passes out more and more (she’s 13 yrs old).

  55. Roger from Ohio Says:

    #55 Aileen–

What does Whoops voice’s have to do with us? I didnt know my fingers have audio?

I dont think she likes your “Roga Dahlink” accent, but I dont know why she put in Jennie

  56. Aileen Says:

    Jennie,

I think you have this “Come Hither” accent with all your making up for lost time from your childhood.

    I’m just saying..

  57. Jennie Says:

    Aileen,

Are you flirting with me? Cause I like it:-)

  58. Roger from Ohio Says:

I like you for those reasons Jennie….

    You seem pretty real…..

sometimes I think Im too real on here…. and not real enough off line.

I really enjoy this site…. all of the people… all of the drama… It isnt said enough, but…..

    WINNIE IS THE BEST!!!

there should be a way to vote for her.

  59. Erika Says:

Mibi, maybe Whoopi wore the makeup for Tim Daly. They were extra smiley with each other. And he IS a very good looking older guy(although, I prefer him mustacheless). I didn’t catch Whoopi’s face when his wife was mentioned, but I read Heather in LA’s comment, so who knows?

I must be the only one who didn’t like EH’s new do. It made me notice how thin and wispy her hair is and I liked the style better before. Do you really think she just knew the number of the Article b/c her mom and brother are lawyers? I think she was briefed as usual before the show.

And if someone is living as Jesus, they can eat a chicken burrito- they just couldn’t use dairy or would have to use a soy alternative. My Kosher Hasidic sister uses all soy substitutes so she doesn’t have to worry about mixing with “milchig.” (I only like the real thing though.)

  60. Jennie Says:

Why haven’t the ladies talked about what’s going on in the middle east? Not news?

    The unfilled/kinda filled senate seat?

Am I the only one who thinks these might be some hot topics?

Vegas, I tried to find Eh’s diet secrets and they don’t seem to be listed. If anyone knows where I can read them online that would be great! Thanks!

  61. ShannonP Says:

Regarding them showing multiple clips of the Patrick Swayze interview:

I would much rather see them talk about that and make people aware of the interview and see clips than to hear about a waste of brain cells show like the Bachelor repeatedly. Plus, he said he wanted to do the interview with her to get the truth about it out. In order to get viewers they need to remind people that the interview is coming up.
I just watched the clip of what they showed today of him and his wife and it really made me choke up.

  62. Roger from Ohio Says:

    #60 Jennie–

Why haven’t the ladies talked about what’s going on in the middle east? Not news?

    The unfilled/kinda filled senate seat?

They did talk about Ronald Burris today, but not Al Franken. It seems to me that they are “touching” on politics but not actually talking about it.

Maybe this is the new “look” of the show.

    Lord I hope not!!

  63. ShannonP Says:

“Why haven’t the ladies talked about what’s going on in the middle east? Not news?
    The unfilled/kinda filled senate seat?

I personally don’t turn to the View for my political news. I wouldn’t take what they said seriously on it anyway. So if they stay away from that stuff, I don’t really care, the country is probably better for it anyway. Because the majority of the time when they do talk politics I get ticked off by all of their inaccurate statements and misguided ignorant opinions on things. That is just stuff they spread on to their audience who are often too lazy or apathetic to find out if it’s the truth or not and they just swallow it up and spit it back out to other people they know in conversation.

  64. Winnie McCarthy Says:

Jennie-If you are talking about the US Weekly article, she did not really say anything new and just repeated what she told Fitness mag last year about her post-baby diet. You can read about that here:

  65. joey Says:

    Hey May,

I’m so sorry to hear about your wee pup. I am a huge dog lover and have a real commitment to my dogs having a comfortable and good life. They give us so much unconditional love and many people give up on them in their geriatric years. My last dog lived to be 18, but one day after she suffered a severe stroke she came to me and asked me to help her end her pain and confusion. I did…man I loved that dog. Yorkies are adorable pets…I want one but I have a tiny poodle cross and a huge Goldendoodle who is just a year old. We travel a lot and always take them with us so maybe three dogs is a stretch.

Aileen, I told my hubby about the electrical grounding and he thought it was very funny.

Roger, you are coming out of yourself and you are an enjoyable flirt…you go guy…

To all the other bloggers, I also enjoy this site and am grateful to Winnie for the opportunity to share ideas with such great peeps…

On that note, I still believe “The Bachelor” sets women back at least a 100 years. Love and marriage are good things but equality is as well…how can a relationship be based on someone begging for an other’s attention. Saying that I do enjoy me a good old Sunday sit- me-down with “The Great Race”.

  66. Erika Says:

Jennie, I think that since she has to live gluten free helps. It almost forces you into a low carb lifestyle unless you substitute with a bunch of GF bread, rice pasta, and rice.

I’ve recently been forced to go gluten free and have naturally became leaner because of it. I don’t care for GF bread that much, so I end up eating more salads with protein and greek yogurt or eggs for breakfast(although, there are GF cereals available). I don’t know if I have celiac’s disease, but I don’t want to have a tube put down my throat in order to be tested b/c there is no medicine for it anyway; you just have to avoid gluten: found in wheat, rye, barley, and sometimes, oats. I just know if I accidentally ingest something with gluten, it makes me feel like I have food poisoning and lasts up to 5 days. I feel better eating this way, but it can be difficult.

  67. Roger from Ohio Says:

    #66 Erika–

I’ve recently been forced to go gluten free and have naturally became leaner because of it.

I never heard of a “gluten free” diet until just before the holiday break on The View…. that comic they had on and he said…..

I dont know what gluten is…. but it is delicious!!

Cracks me up as I type it in.

I have a lot of respect for all of you out there that diet… I couldnt do it…. Im not big on sweets, but I just LOVE starches. If it werent for potatoes Id probably starve. When I lived on my own, I lived on pizza almost exclusively.
One day ill be active again, until then Ill just think of myself as a blob in progress. lol

  68. marthe Says:

Are there any other sites that talk about the view?

I’m gonna stop contributing here, cuz nobody gives a rat’s patoot what I say.

  69. Heather in LA Says:

    Erika says:

    Erika,

if/when you have a colonoscopy they can do it then and you won’t feel a thing or remember it :) but if you feel sick for 5 days after eating gluten - yowza. unless it’s just an allergy to wheat or some other food allergy. regardless, your body is talking to you.

Whole Foods has whole sections devoted to Gluten Free - have you seen those? Just found these really delicious brown rice marshmallow treats from Glennys - only 100 calories. Also, Elana’s Pantry has great recipes for gluten-free (esp the choc chip cookies!)

    Thanks Winnie,
Enjoyed the recap as always, & didn’t get to see the show.

I really enjoyed reading all the comments.
Enjoyed the many laughs they gave me. :)

Aileen, :) so nice to read your comments again. I have missed your wittiness.

  73. Sandy Says:

    # 68 marthe,
    I do!!!!

  74. Sandy Says:

    # 68,
read your comments, and do give a rat’s patoot, that is. :)

  75. Erika Says:

Thanks, Heather. I actually do shop at WF- it’s my closest store; I live in SF and don’t have a car, so I just walk a few blocks to get there. I have tried some of the GF products, but got “glutenized” when I had Amy’s GF mac-n-cheese. Afterwards, I read that it is processed in the same facility as wheat! I know it’s not a wheat allergy b/c I first was affected by oats and once was affected by a salad dressing with malt in it, I think. I tend to avoid a lot of packaged foods, but it just makes me eat more healthfully, so I don’t mind. When I get a craving for sweets, I’ll have to check out those treats and the website. I can still eat most good chocolate though :) I like Dagoba dark.

And Roger, luckily, potatoes don’t have gluten; but, I do miss pizza :(

  76. Erika Says:

Heather, I missed your link at first and just checked it out. Wow! I love her food photos; I didn’t realize when you mentioned it that ALL of the recipes are GF. Thanks again for the info.

  77. Roger from Ohio Says:

    <Passes the patoot…

  80. Roger from Ohio Says:

    *whisper*

Hey Jennie… a patoot is a polite word for butt… so you cant really pass it.

  81. Jennie Says:

Oh no! was I saying passing the butt? LOL My bad. What I was trying to say is that I value her comments on here and I’d like her to stay. Passing the kind words for Marthe to the next person….

Well, since you went there…yes you can pass patoot around. But I wouldn’t encourage that kind of behavior.

  82. May Says:

Thanx Joey for the kind words. Your dogs sound cute but I’ve never heard of a goldendoodle!
Eighteen is a long time in dog years you must be doing something right.
Marthe, I do read your comments…AND do give a patoot also.

  83. msroncon Says:

I love EH’s comments about how she likes the Bachelor and can understand the constitution because her father and brother are LAWYERS!!!!!

  84. marthe Says:

I am so ashamed that I threw a viewlike hissyfit.

  85. Heather in LA Says:

    Erika Says:

    I like Dagoba dark.

well then you’ll love Elana’s recipes cause she ONLY recommends using dagoba!

  86. Stacee Says:

May, I am sending well wishes and hugs to your Yorkie. 13 years? I bet she’s bought many years of comfort and joy, and I am certain your family has done the same for her too.

marthe, PLEASE don’t go! As you can see, many of us here value what you have to say!

  87. marilyn Says:

    Marthe-

I am the Queen of hissyfits, I totally understand your need to tell us your feelings. I’m glad the “moment” passed and all is well. You are one of the good guys.

  88. rainlillie Says:

I despise shows like the “The Bachelor” where women have to compete for a man. Don’t these women have self respect? I’m sure the concept was created by man. I just looked it up and yes a man came up with the idea. His name is Mike Fleiss. How sad that women allow themselves to be viewed in such a way.

    May,

I also wish your dog a happy long life. My dog is my third child.

  89. berndoubt Says:

#88, is he related to the great feminist leader, Heidi Fleiss?

  90. Stacee Says:

berndoubt, According to IMBd, they are second cousins.

  91. Stacee Says:

    that should have been IMDb

  92. susieq Says:

Berndoubt, they’re cousins. It amazes me that Elisabeth who proclaims to be a defender of womens rights likes this degrading, sexist, show called “The Bachelor”. But then again Elisabeth proclaims to be a Christian while showing no compassion or understanding for anyone but herself.

  93. rainlillie Says:

Are you guys serious? I had no idea he was related to Hedi.
    susieq,
I totally agree with your points. The guy may as well hand out dog biscuits at the end of the show. The women beg with their eyes, sort of like my dog.

  94. berndoubt Says:

This is perhaps unfair, but it seemed odd to me that Bitsy’s excitement over The Bachelor was not in proportion to her sadness over her grandfather’s death. She is immensely unlikeable, but at least she’s consistent.

  95. Roger from Ohio Says:

    Im gonna defend Elisabeth here…..

It is an act… no one gets that excited about a reality show…. EH treats the “Bachelor” the same way that Sherri treats “Dancing with the Stars” They are both ABC shows. This isnt actually their “views” but an advertisement for another show on their channel. Elisabeth was just doing her job…. lame as it is.

    Marthe–

If it werent for hissyfits, I wouldnt have a reason to say 1/2 the things that I say.

  96. berndoubt Says:

#95, Rog, I’m sticking with my opinion on this. Let me know if we have to drop the gloves and sticks and go all hockey fight over this…kidding…well, only sorta…I love a great hockey fight.

Anyhoo, the only time Elisabeth seems genuinely excited is when she talks about reality shows. I agree that she is pimping for her network at the same time, but she’s much more animated when discussing losers on reality shows than when she talks about her kids.

marthe…let me weigh in…stick around…there might be a hockey fight!

It’s a beautiful, Go Blackhawks! day in America!

  97. joey Says:

    #95 Roger

I love how fair you are…I agree with you that “The Bachelor” is an ABC show and therefore it is politic for EH to support it….that said it also seems to be part of the confusion we have with EH and her values.

  98. rainlillie Says:

I still go back to susieq’s point.

“It amazes me that Elisabeth who proclaims to be a defender of womens rights likes this degrading, sexist, show called “The Bachelor”. But then again Elisabeth proclaims to be a Christian while showing no compassion or understanding for anyone but herself.”

I recall Rosie finding the whole concept silly. The stuff that’s being sold to the ABC female audience is just shameful IMO.

Another show that bugs the hell out of me is “Wife Swap”, the title is just disgusting to me. They act as if women are property. That’s also on the ABC network. Then we have the women on the View dumbing things down.

  99. susieq Says:

I do believe that Elisabeth gets genuinely excited about watching these reality shows. I think it’s the competition aspect. IMO she does think life is a game, you’re either winning or losing.

  100. ShannonP Says:

Shows like The Bachelor don’t stay on because of Elisabeth. They stay on because there are enough pathetic people out there that lap it up and the ratings stay high enough to keep the show going. It’s my personal opinion that anyone that would watch that show isn’t worth hanging around.
It doesn’t even surprise me that Elisabeth pushes the show. I think she’d enjoy it even if they didn’t tell her to. She seems to have a very outdated take on marriage and relationships. From some of the discussions they’ve had on the show, I have the impression that she thinks all women must beg and give ultimatums to get a man to marry them and that she’s the type of woman that when she got engaged would run to all of her girlfriends high pitched squealing and dancing up and down to show off the ring. I can’t relate to women like that, they make me cringe.
As for having more excitement about a show than her own kids, that’s her job. She’s not paid to promote her kids, she’s paid to talk about what they want her to talk about and to push what shows and products they want her to push.

  101. Roger from Ohio Says:

    #100 ShannonP–

There wasnt a particular quote that made me comment, but the entire thing.

I know some of you ladies think that it is “weird” that Im the “only” guy that comes to this site. ShannonP’s post is the reason why. I have always liked hanging around with women, which in turn, made me appreciate strong women.

weak women…. women that “needs” a man….. fake women…. women that cant do anything “because Im a girl” … all of those types of women are a big turn off. EH is almost like that… her athletic style is what makes her confusing.

The women on this site, IMO, are strong opinionated, real women…. Thats why I enjoy coming here… thats why I love to debate with you all….. I can act like myself and will been seen as one of the group… not like an outsider.

    Thanks.

  102. berndoubt Says:

#101, Roger, drop the gloves and let me show you how strong I am!!!!!!!!

  103. Roger from Ohio Says:

*Crushes berndoubt’s left cheek with a right cross and knocks her off her skates*

Lets see u cover that bruise up with make-up

  104. berndoubt Says:

    L Ow L

  105. May Says:

Stacee and Rainlillie, Thanx to you both for your good wishes to my Yorkie. She is doing well today, pestering me to play ball so I’m hopeful.
The show was interrupted but it was worth it to hear the good speech by Pres. Elect Obama.

  106. rainlillie Says:

    May,
    That’s great news! :-)
