The View July 10th Recap: Antonio Banderas
Today on The View it was only four hosts, with Barbara Walters absent. Yesterday, Elisabeth Hasselbeck kidnapped Joy Behar’s Blackberry and left a ransom note saying it would be returned if she voted McCain.
Jesse Jackson is in the news for commenting (when he thought the microphone was off) that he thought that Barack Obama was talking down to Black people regarding the faith-based initiatives and he would like to “cut his nuts off.” Whoopi Goldberg said you forget microphones are on sometimes. Sherri Shepherd one time accidentally said she didn’t know “what the hell” some give-away item did. Elisabeth said that even if he didn’t know the mic was on, he still made the comment. Whoopi said that people keep saying Barack is too black and then not black enough, etc. Joy said that people never say he is “not white enough” and she heard people say he should be called “Half-rican American.” Whoopi said that anytime you use a phrase like that it puts aside that they are first and foremost an American.
Sherri said she doesn’t have a problem with what Jackson said because it is how he felt. Joy said that it was a violent thing to say, adding that even Lorena Bobbit didn’t go for the nuts. Whoopi said she has said that phrase before. Jesse Jackson, Jr came out strong against his father. Joy said it is because he is running for mayor. Elisabeth said it is hypocritical that he says he supports Obama, but wants to cut his cajones off. Sherri said you don’t have to agree to everything a person stands for. Whoopi said that she doesn’t think that Jackson really wants to snatch and tear his cajones (they bleeped “cajones” and also did so when Elisabeth said it, but allowed several uses of “nuts”) and Joy said that as long as it is not scratch and sniff. Joy said that Jackson doesn’t like that Obama is talking a personal responsibility because he believes it is more about the social programs. Joy said that is it all “in a nutshell.”
DNA evidence has finally cleared Jon and Patsy Ramsey, as well as their son, in the death of Jon Benet. Patsy died prior to having her name cleared. Elisabeth said that the man who claimed to have done it, but didn’t, is still giving interviews and it is creepy.
Elisabeth has a fear of tomatoes because of the salmonella outbreak. She loves and misses tomatoes. Sherri thinks it is okay because when she goes out to eat they put tomatoes on it. Whoopi said maybe it is personal. Joy said that the FDA has cut its budget and Whoopi said that has cut down on the inspections. She said that we import food from other countries and we don’t know what their standards are. Sherri said that you could grow your own tomatoes. Whoopi has a machine where you can grow vegetables.
Christine Brinkley and Peter Cook had a settlement in their divorce. Alexa Joel said that in 2003, Cook, her step-father, berated her and yanked her out in the shower to clean up a mess and stuck her head in a bucket. Sherri said that you should protect your children. Alexa said her mom is very nice, but idealistic. Joy said that Brinkley is not stupid, but when it comes to men “she is an air-head.” Whoopi said some people make bad choices and you have have to learn to be alone and be picky. Elisabeth said that they had a lot of money, so they could distract themselves from their problems.
Antonio Banderas appeared on the show to promote his new fragrance, “Blue Seduction.” He has been married almost 14 years to Melanie Griffith. There are many things that he discovered about Melanie and her personality after they got married. She is very caring and funny. Sherri asked him to say, “I want to take the garbage because I love you” and he obliged.
“Blue Seduction” is a woman’s fragrance which is “sensual and fresh.” It was made by a company in Barcelona. The fragrance will be launched tonight at Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. He wanted it to be attached to charity when he promotes it all over the world. There will be a performance by the cast of “In The Heights,” accompanied by children.
They showed a clip of him as Puss in Boots in Shrek.
The next segment was “Summer Shoes Under $100,” with a woman from In Style Magazine. Some of the brands they showed were Nine West, DV Dolce Vita embellished sandals (with an owl on them), Gabriella Rocha patent leather black pumps, Jessica Simpson green suede very high-heels, Naughty Monkey wooden-heel wedge, Old Navy gladiator sandals, Chinese Laundry gold corked platform shoes (modeled by Sherri).
The final segment was “Sherri Gone Wild” which showed some of Sherri’s Adventures by Disney trip to Costa Rica. They showed a bunch of different sights and Sherri zip-lining, which looked like a lot of fun.
The View, Sherri Shepherd, Whoopi Goldberg, Antonio Banderas, Joy Behar, Elisabeth Hasselbeck, Barbara Walters, Costa Rica, Adventures by Disney, summer shoes, Gabriella Rocha, Chinese Laundry, Naughty Monkey, Jessica Simpson, Nine West, DV Dolce Vita

I didn’t care for how Whoopie spent more time talking about “hot mics” than talking about the “I want to cut his nuts off” comment. I wished Joy or Sherri or even EB would have talked about that more.

it is not hypocritical to disagree with something your candidate does or says as long as it not a deal beaker change or statement (Barack has done a couple things that bothered me over the last couple weeks). people are saying that jesses statement in a crazy way may help barack with some white americans.
lol at half-rican american
on the tomatoes it seems that they migth not be the only problem source and a garden maynot be such a bad idea.

“half-rican american”
You know it’s just not cool in 2008 for someone to use that term. Whoopi is really slipping IMO. People who are of mixed race have a hard enough time in our society without those kind of slurs being tossed around. I do believe that Pill Popper Rush , was the first to use that derogatory term when speaking of Obama.

I just feel the show is really slipping as compared to when Whoopie first came on. I didn’t want to miss it then….now I’m like why bother watching when I can read it online? (although I did see it today).
July 10th, 2008 at 12:13 pm
It was Joy who said ‘halfrican American’.
Todays show was such a bore.
I am fast forwarding it more and more every day. Between Elisabeths shrill voice, to Sherri asinine interview questions, (asking Antonio Banderes to say to her ‘I want to take the garbage out’ @@
I can’t stand to watch this trainwreck anymore. Needs recasting, needs new format, STAT.
What is with Sherri and her obsession with men taking out the garbage? She asked Michelle Obama if Barack still does it for her when she was guest cohost. She is such an idiot. And she really needs to stop wearing those skin tight dresses. She looks like a walking, talking street walker caricature.
At least she got rid of that horrendous beehive wig.

Trainwreck is the perfect word for the show right now….keep repeating: NEW CAST; NEW CAST; NEW CAST !!! maybe it will come true.

oh…except for Joy !!

Did mostly “listening” to today’s show since I was in the next room sewing my new dress I just designed. I usually laugh a lot when looking at my new creations..they look somewhat like what Lucy/Ethel would create. Anyway being away from the tv, it was amazing how those women talking over each other shows up without seeing the pic. (If that sentence makes any sense). Yes I agree Sherri could use someone to help her dress but her bit today on the zipline was funny and showed her free spirit! Liked it a lot. On the other hand, EH hiding the Blueberry from Joy in a kleenex box was sophomoric just like EH.

Thanks Winnie,
I watched today and the show was not too bad. IMO anyway.
I agree with mibi, you don’t have to agree with everything your candidates does or says.
I don’t agree with Jesse’s thoughts, as opposed to senator Obama’s idea of personal responsibility., But, I feel both are important, personal responsibility and social issues.
I was very happy to hear about the DNA evidence in the Jon Benet case. I never thought her parents were guilty. I didn’t like the way the media treated them.
I loved the segment with Sherri at the Disney Costa Rica visit.
# 3 Rainlillie,
I believe that Whoopi was saying the same thing as you, basically. It was Joy who said she had “heard” this term used in regards to senator Obama.

When watching that video of Jesse Jackson, I got the feeling he did it on purpose and like it wasn’t an accident, but it was something he thought up to do before hand. I don’t have TV so I don’t get the round the clock coverage of it or what other people thought of it, but it just seemed a little off to me and contrived.
Whatever the case, I am so sick of media in this election. Completely sick of it. I am glad I only see the stuff online that I want to see, because if I watched TV and the news channels and the crap they put out, I’d be even more livid about it.

Thanks Sandy,
I went back and reread the recap.
I do agree with Whoopi’s point of View.

Race is always a touchy subject but its a conversation I’ve had with many of my friends of many different races. My friend who IS Half African and Half Caucasian does actually refer to himself as Halfrican.. and I do the same to him. I think the subject it pretty touchy for some people but the ladies weren’t using it in a condescending tone or subject so I don’t think anyone should take offense to it. It is interesting how everyone focuses on Obama’s African roots and not his Caucasian side. The ladies actually brought up a good point.

When they do a comfortable summer shoes for under $35 dollars segment, let me know. None of those shoes are shoes I’d wear. I wear shoes strictly for comfort, if they aren’t comfortable, I don’t wear them. (Just a personal belief of mine, that women that stuff their feet into heels and cry about how bad their feet hurt, aren’t that intelligent and maybe they should spend more money on building their self esteem up and less on shoes.)
I think the way Sherri behaves towards men is just out of control, especially when the guy is married. Have some respect…for yourself first, and also for the man and his wife. It’s funny how someone that acts like marriage is so sacred has such a hard time treating other’s marriages as such.
They seemed to have listened a little more and talked less during Antonio’s interview, at least to me it seemed like they were making an effort. It wasn’t as bad as it usually is when they all interview someone.
Last thought for now, I really love humor…humor gets me through a lot in life and I love a good laugh almost more than anything else…that said, there is a time and a place for it. I wish when they were talking about serious or important topics that they would just leave the jokes out of it, period. When it’s something that I want to think about and process and reflect on, it irritates me to have it thwarted with a joke.

I never watched this show until retirement. Rosie came on and sparked the content waaay up and was enjoyable til she melted down. I thought Whoopi was going to The Voice of Reason but she is a huge disappointment. I get tired of BW trying to “educate” the viewing audience by “explaining” to us various OBVIOUS things. BW has become so politically correct and afraid of being sued she is useless. And she shilled her darned book to the point of embarrassment! This is my “view” and I will not be tuning in any longer…………
July 10th, 2008 at 2:54 pm
I LOVE LOVE LOVE the shoes Sherri was wearing! Super cute.

PRIOR POST: Trainwreck is the perfect word for the show right now….keep repeating: NEW CAST; NEW CAST; NEW CAST !!! maybe it will come true.
RESPONSE: suggestion for a WTV Hot Topic: Who would you like to see cast as the 5 co-hosts (1 to be named as moderator.)

So True, Rain!

Does Bill Geddie ever read what people are saying about the Show? And How everyone is complaining about the Show, as I do. Or
doesn’t he even care!!!!! I agree they need
to get a New Cast or a New Producer!!!!!
July 10th, 2008 at 10:37 pm
I complain. There is an email address for Bill Gedde (The Viewmaster). When I really get annoyed I email him.
Shoe deals for under $100.00??!! Are they serious. Who do they think their audience is?
July 11th, 2008 at 8:52 am
Another vote for trainwreck. This show bores me.
July 11th, 2008 at 8:56 am
Big applause to Winnie who has the fortitude to even watch this show in its entirety! Lately, I’m totally gone by the first commercial break!
July 11th, 2008 at 9:15 am
I was channel surfing and tuned in at the point where they were showing the sandals (the Old Navy, gladiator style ones). I remember Joy trying to ask the guest a question and know-it-all Bitsy cutting in and chirping the answer. It was very annoying, IMO. Why not allow the guest to answer, EH can lend Joy her fashion expertise some other time. It’s like she always has either be the center of attention or show she is knowledgable about any and everything.
It was cute Sherri being a model in the shoe show, but I’m sorry that dress was NOT flattering to her figure. Nice color but it made her boobs look like one huge hump!
I ended up turning the channel. Even during that short time of viewing, it bored me.
