The View July 31st Recap: Pamela Anderson and Toby Keith
(EDITOR’S NOTE: As I am waiting for this morning’s episode to begin, I realize that I am grateful for the August hiatus, as I, too, need a break from the daily grind of The View. I am heading out of town tomorrow for some much needed relaxation (from life in general, not just this blog), so I may or may not watch tomorrow’s show before I head out, depending on when we leave. I will be back posting next week).
Again today it was just the four hosts, with Barbara Walters absent. The first topic was how humid it is in NYC. Sherri Shepherd said that NYC is the only place where with the humidity you wake up wet. Whoopi said, “If you are lucky.”
Then Whoopi said that that they received a letter from a spokesperson from the Barack Obama campaign that the allegation that Obama allowed his prayer to be published was completely false. They didn’t discuss it and left it at that.
There is a new McCain ad about how Obama is a celebrity, which features Britney Spears and Paris Hilton. Whoopi thinks is it a little bit offensive because Paris Hilton has been in jail and the drunk tank and Britney had some mental illness. She said if he wants to compare him to a big celebrity, they should have chosen Will Smith or George Clooney. Elisabeth thinks the ad is successful because we are talking about it. Elisabeth said you learn from it that Obama will increase taxes. She added that Obama was on Access Hollywood. Whoopi said that is not the point. Elisabeth said to let her finish. She said he is on People Magazine next to Lindsay Lohan.
Sherri Shepherd said it was “very very high school” to use what people consider to be two “dumb” celebrities who both have criminal records. Joy Behar said that we love celebrities in this country and calling him a celebrity is not an insult. She said that it seems like McCain is jealous of Obama’s celebrity. Joy said that there are people who read those magazines. Elisabeth admitted that she loves celebrity weeklies. They showed a picture of Wilford Brimley with McCain and Joy commented that is the level of celebrity he can get or something to that effect. I could not quite catch it because Elisabeth started on one of her favorite topics, “If you want to talk about friends, let’s talk about Obama’s friends.” Whoopi (or was it Joy? I cannot keep up very well when they argue so quickly) said that is not the point we are discussing. The audience vocalized negatively when Elisabeth started naming people linked with Obama. She said that she doesn’t care if people are turning on her and you can only have one opinion in this country right now, but she will continue to give her differing opinion. Whoopi told her not to go there because she got burned by not having the right opinion in the past.
Then they all argued about the candidates and whether McCain or Obama are flip-floppers, the same argument they have had several times in the past. Joy said that McCain is a Bush clone and Elisabeth said that Obama has turned against his base who got him elected. Sherri asked, “He is turning on Black people?” Elisabeth explained she meant the extreme liberals, not Black people. There was more arguing and then Whoopi said that no matter who gets elected, you have to know that your taxes will go up.
There was more to the argument, but, like I said, I could not keep up. (Edited to add: There is a partial video clip of this discussion available here. Of course they disabled embedding, so I can only post the link.)
When they returned from commercial break, Joy told Whoopi to tell everyone that they aren’t mad at each other. Whoopi said that they are respectful of each other as people and don’t carry it on past the conversation. Sherri said people don’t want to hear the explanation, they only want to show the fights.
Ludacris released a song called “Politics as Usual,” where he criticizes Bush, Hillary Clinton, McCain, and Jesse Jackson. Joy then “rapped” the song. She said it was a “sad, sad rendition.” Elisabeth said Ludacris is crying right now, but Sherri thinks that he is smiling. (Video of Joy “rapping” is here)
Johnathan Rhys Myers said that celebrities should quit whining about privacy because they knew what they were getting into. Whoopi said that she doesn’t know if he has kids yet or if he has the celebrity where people invade his personal space and prevent him from going to the story. Elisabeth said that there is a sick obsession with celebrities and their children and soon the magazines will publish ultrasound photos. Joy said that some celebrities you don’t see on magazines. Elisabeth said it is based on who sells magazines. Whoopi said so many things get out of your control and you don’t anticipate a lot of things that happen to you with fame. Sherri said that it is hard with Jeffrey because people want to touch him, but he has sensory issues.
Whoopi and Joy will be appearing together to do stand-up in “Girls Uninterrupted,” which was named by Steve. The show will take place at the MGM Grand Theater at the Foxwoods Resort Casino in Connecticut on September 13th.
They showed a segment of behind the scenes of Whoopi’s work on the Broadway show Xanadu.
Pamela Anderson appeared on the show to promote her new television series Pam: Girl on the Loose. Joy said that Pamela is a “regular girl” in that she has no nanny, no publicity, and colors her own hair. Elisabeth said she has had a rough few years, with marriages, divorces, annulment, and a health scare. Pamela said why she is attracted to these man goes back to her dad and she is her mother. Sherri asked her how she looks so good. She said a lot of make-up and that chasing her boys around keeps her thin.
Whoopi “tipped her dred” to Pam for not including her children in the show. Pamela said she is an exhibitionist and loves performing, so the reality show was a natural step. She likes getting older and is taking more stock of her life in her 40s. Joy asked her what will happen when the men won’t be drooling over her in her 50s. Elisabeth and Whoopi said that she will be hot for a long time. Joy said to be real and that there is a cut-off and wants to know how she will react to that after having her career based on her appearance. Pamela feels sexier now more than ever.
They showed a clip from her show where she had a big sale of a lot of her stuff. She gave the money to PETA. She said she didn’t know that Tori Spelling had a yard sale in the first season of her reality show. Joy said that is a different kind of show. Pam said she hasn’t seen it.
Sherri asked Pamela how she and Tommy get along, asking for advice for how to deal with her soon-to-be ex-husband. Pamela joked, “Sleep with him.” She said, in reality, she and Tommy are like an old married couple — they live together and don’t have sex. She said she is living at his home while he is on tour and her home is being worked on. She said that she and Tommy are best friends and you never know what could happen. She became a United States citizen (she is from Canada) and this year will be her first Presidential election. She said, “Obama!” then said “Sorry” to Elisabeth. Elisabeth said she respects that.
Toby Keith was also on the show. He has produced a “southern comedy” film called Beer for My Horses. He said he would maybe like to do a film every other year. Growing up with his grandmother who ran a supper club with a 10 piece band changed his life and started his interest in music. Toby said he is on his own island in that he has own record label and has never been Nashville’s poster boy. He just came back from his 6th USO Tour overseas. Elisabeth said that is the best gift he can give to the guys over there.
Toby then performed his song “She never cried.”

Winnie - you are the best.
OMG! I hurt myself trying to climb through my screen. But luckily, for my plasma, I passed out before I could reach EH. I was so in shock at her acidic, relentless, torturous rhetoric (I hate that word, but that’s what it is) that I forgot to breath. I cannot type right now, my fingers are still blue and I might write something that will get me banned from WTV for life.
So help me God, if anyone defends TLB today…I need a Quaalude.
July 31st, 2008 at 10:17 am
Hey guys im new here! but yeah i dont think ive ever seen whoopi get that mad ever
and to be honest its getting disingenuous to keep pretending that they love each other when they dont
July 31st, 2008 at 10:18 am
You won’t find me defending her indefensible tirade. She was a rabid harpy today. I am sick and tired of them all giving her maximum oxygen to get her right wing talking points out and leaving little time to challenge her misinformation. Whoopie gave a sub-par delivery of the Obama response to yesterdays lies spread by Bits concerning his prayer at the Wall. Bits is despicable and a disgrace to the feminine gender.
On another note, did anyone notice how gray Bit’s roots looked on tv?
July 31st, 2008 at 10:27 am
EH is a hot mess. I wouldn’t be surprised if McBush asks her to please stop “campaigning” for him because her kind of support he doesn’t need. EH really needs some new “talking points”, to keep referencing Wright over and over again is LAME!!
July 31st, 2008 at 10:32 am
I think there is an absolute palpable movement away from hot mess. The audience is no longer clap-happy for her, the Republicans won’t claim her (spot-on misslingdow), the Conservatives call her a fraud, the Liberals, well, you know, and her own co-hosts dismiss her entirely…I think we’re on the cusp of something really great. Obama IN – BM (Bush McCain) OUT. 2008 is soooooo my year.
Did not notice her roots (too busy going for the neck), but I would not be surprised if she is going gray…she’s become increasingly neurotic.
July 31st, 2008 at 10:47 am
i did not get to watch the show (hope i get to see a clip later) but when i was home in ohio i saw nothing but Mccain ads literally 2 a commerical break at one point the whole time i was home i saw maybe 1 obama ad. so mccain can complain but he has his message out there and does not have to do ads with brit and paris.
July 31st, 2008 at 10:52 am
Kelly, Dee, misslingdow, you ladies have got this covered. So there isn’t anything to add.
I missed the first five minutes. I’m glad the Obama campaign responded to the misinformation that the ladies put out yesterday.
Winnie,
enjoy your vacation! Thanks again for providing us with this forum and more importantly for sitting through the show every day.
July 31st, 2008 at 11:01 am
Yuck. sounds horrible.
I’ve quit watching. EH is unendurable unless there is a smack-down waiting to happen - but I’ve become resigned to the idea that it’s never going to happen. And the topics, and responses are predictable for all of them - maybe not Whoopi so much as the others. But there’s nothing to be learned, you already know what they are going to say.
I think they should make puppets of each of the co-hosts and then hire actresses to play each. They could predict with excellent accuracy just what each would say and it could be an hysterically funny parody of the show. Do that about 2-3 times a week, and then have a new set of co-hosts:
-Phyllis Diller (she was great teh day she was on) or Betty White
-Maya Angelou or Aretha Franklin (grouped together becuase they are the same generation , I think - not because they are both black
-Jane Pauley (articulate and brings a mental illness perspective) or Billy Jean King (I LOVE Billy Jean King. Wish it could be both, but I thnk they are the same generation.
-Margaret Cho
-Kristi Yamaguchi - or another REAL athlete - they have an interesting approach to life. But if BIllie Jean says yes, then maybe Britney Spears (I’m serious, I bet she has lots of interesting things to say).
Other possiblities:
Brooke Shields, Cathy Rigby (athlete, actress, mental health issues)

I’m in Ohio too mibi, the great swing state that along with Florida, rigged the last two presidential elections compliments of Former Ohio Secretary of State Kenneth Blackwell (and reprogrammed voting machines) and Former Florida Secretary of State Katherine Harris (and the “scrub list”). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5gwdNIxecwY
Today local news reports enormous record profits for Exxon and a poll-tie for McCain and Obama. I just don’t see how that’s possible. I am sure the Democrats will have the voting police at the polls again (last Ohio election overthrew Republicans including Governor Taft). I recall the news reporting on a woman who held up her vote receipt that showed her vote for Kerry actually registered for BUSH. That clip never saw the light of day again, just like the congressional investigation into Ohio’s election.
July 31st, 2008 at 11:21 am
Hi Chris: You are so right IMO. I’m losing respect for Whoopi and Joy for suggesting they all respect one another. That can’t possibly be true. Joy please, you’re the only heroine I have left. I have to see Girls Uninterrupted…what a great title Steve. What a great idea.
Confession: I dreamt about all of you last night (with the exception of Michael). We were at some WTV convention in a sunny place, and we were all milling about. I distinctly remember rainlillie; she was about 5’4”, long brunette hair with sharp bangs and small purple flower barrettes (cool ones) and looked something like a cross between Evangeline Lilly and Lily Allen with the warm personality of Lili Taylor à la Mystic Pizza (The Lillies). I mean that as a compliment rain – I love Lili Taylor but don’t know a thing about the other two. Guess it’s official; I’m a WTV junkie.
July 31st, 2008 at 11:21 am
my 2004 absentee ballot was not counted because the united states postal service held all ballot for bulk mail so all those college students from ohio were not heard. sad face . your breaking my heart kelly
July 31st, 2008 at 11:24 am
For those of you who missed it, I just edited the post to include a link to a video clip of just a snippet of the argument from this morning.

My God!!! EH….. Such a disgrace! It is really sad and actually scary because unfortunately I can promise you, there’s lots of brained washed people like that out there!!! I live in Canada and I can only wish we’re gonna get so lucky to have such an amazing guy like Obama run for Prime Minister in our country! I have lots of Democrats and Republican friends in the States that think the same of her! It just seems like she’s lost it completely today! I used to be such a big fan of THE VIEW, but I find EH and her views sooo, soo close minded and irritating that I feel bad for the rest of those wonderful girls on that show!
July 31st, 2008 at 11:40 am
OK, I am brand new to this, but it looks like you gals need to balance this out a little bit so I am joining in with my conservative views. First of all, I have to say, Mibi, that you do know that any political ad that is being played on the air in Ohio is being paid for by the candidate, right? Tell me that you don’t honestly believe that they are playing McCain’s ads there for no fee. If McCain’s ads are playing more in Ohio, it’s simply because he’s putting up more money there. Just like Obama is putting more money into other states. He must not think that Ohio will be important enough in this election. When a candidate is covered in the media, however, that is usually for free and sometimes they even get paid for it (if it’s a magazine spread or something). That’s where the unfair advantage comes in. When Obama is on the cover of every magazine at the store and every article speaks of him as if he is some sort of child of God, it gets really old.
Secondly, I just have a few things to say about the inbalance on the set of the View. No matter how annoying you may find EH to be, you have to give her credit for standing up for herself on that set. When Barb’s there, it’s 4 agains 1 and I never see her back down. Although I agree with most of what she says (not all!) I do wish she’d shut up sometimes. She gets really wired and her voice gets really shrill, but she is on a liberal talk show with a liberal audience (as evidenced in these postings) and at least she doesn’t let those other women walk all over her. I would also like to point out, that on that panel, she is the happiest person. She’s the only one that doesn’t complain about how society has wronged her, or complain about men that have wronged her in the past. She’s the only one that takes care of herself… eats right, works out, tries to look her best. So what if her roots look gray? As a women, I won’t dog her for that because I KNOW that grayness happens to the best of us. She still had the cutest hairdo of the 4 of them today. Yeah, maybe she needs a day off to go to the salon, but it sounds like she likes to spend her time off with her kids, and you can’t really blame her for that.
Now I have said my piece. I’m sure I will get a mouthful from all of you. Maybe I will make a habit of posting, maybe not. Have a good one, I’m going for a run while I listen to Rush Limbaugh.
July 31st, 2008 at 11:41 am
Oh Kelly, I so hope things have improved since then. I heard that Ohio will impliment the vote confirmation print outs this year (?)
mibi, I have on occasion voted absentee. However, this year I will definitely go down to the polling booth and vote in person.
I liked that the View gave time to relay what the statement by the Obama camp but why oh why did they have Whoopi read it??? She was awful; stumbling over the words and not reading it clearly. It was very confusing to me!
Course Bits was just sitting there with a sick look on her face. Maybe that was what set her off. Boy she looked like she could spit nails today. And her pissy “I can say anything I want, free country rant” towards the audience made her look unhinged!
Lot of nerve too with her “you can only have 1 opinion” statement. O Really, Bits? Loved Whoopi setting her straight on that, especially since Whoopi lived it. That Bits would even utter “you can only have one opinion” is pure bs. Where has she been the last 7 and a half years? Not only that, but I believe Bits has played the “if-you-say-something-against-the-war-or-Bush-you-must-be-antiAmerican,-antiTroop,-antiPatriotic-and-ProTerrorist” card.
Please Joy, if you are reading this, print out a list of McCains flip flops so you’re prepared for Bits’ anti Obama talking points. Yes, the list will be long, but it will be worth it.
July 31st, 2008 at 11:48 am
Today’s show left me with feeling the blood pressure going thru the ROOF! That little s@!t had to even yell at the audience at one point..”I’m allowed free speech”..gads..she can’t even get along with the audience. I loved Pamela Anderson’s body language..pointing to and mostly talking to Whoopi, Joy and ignoring airhead bleached blond loud mouth twit nincompoop! And when she went thumbs up to Obama I laughed and said “Take that twit” with a few added expletives. What a nut! Whoopi tried to say that they’re not mad, blah, blah and said the tv shows will show only the arguing..that’s a big part of what happened so natch! I’m from Ohio and know about Blackwell too. I’d like to put him, Kathren Harris, EH, Rush Limbaugh,Karl Rove, Dick Chaney,W. Bush all in a plastic bag and go drop it into the Gulf…way, way out. Let them complain about the “liberals” on their way down! Now I feel much better. Thanx Winnie for giving me all these chances to vent. Enjoy your well earned month off! We’ll miss you.
July 31st, 2008 at 11:49 am
On ” America’s Got Talent” Sharon Osbourne suggested that a contestant tape their voice and play it back. I humbly pass along this pearl of wisdom for El Hassel to benefit from. It’s not her voice but what it is she’s saying at times which is in need of such attention.
July 31st, 2008 at 11:49 am
EH is not a…what did one person call her…a Mess? She, like all the other women in this country have the right to vote..and free speech. It is my opinion that all of us, men and women, need to fall on our knees and ask our god for guidence on this election. What has happened to us when we can’t even give our view or concern when it is followed up by the other person throwing up their hands and saying “whatever”. All this is nothing but childlike…I am not afraid of the president…whomever it will be…I am more afraid of all the people that won’t get their way….like I said…children.
July 31st, 2008 at 11:51 am
they really are getting into some heated arguments lately. I think their not doing well with the ratings. They hardly release View ratings. I think they only release them when they are decent, so now they are trying to create a little more drama to boost their poor ratings.
Right after the first portion of hot topics, i was thinking that Elisabeth might have burst in tears again because Whoopi had to reiterate how they all love each other blah blah blah.
July 31st, 2008 at 12:06 pm
Why do they have to keep saying (pretending) that they “love” each other, anyway? Do other women viewers need them to be best friends? Because I don’t. And I’m not buying it.
July 31st, 2008 at 12:16 pm
Wow– I am in Ohio too. Columbus, Ohio please do not get me started on Blackwell. Kelly I do rememeber that story about the vote receipt and you are so right, it disappeared from air in a snap.
Ohioians unite another 4 years with Mcbush will have us in a soup line. Waiting for cabbage water (Charilie and the Chocolate Factory) and bread!
July 31st, 2008 at 12:18 pm
Yeah, Bitsy did look like she was on the verge of tears.
I enjoyed Pamela’s interview. She was quite witty. She’s also very pretty. The part where she said “Obama” and then looked to the side and said “sorry” had me chuckling.
Boy, Toby Keith sure looked different from the last time I saw him. He’s really bulked up.
Anyone else notice that The View’s Thursday shows seem to constantly get a little heated?
July 31st, 2008 at 12:20 pm
May Says:
” I’m from Ohio and know about Blackwell too. I’d like to put him, Kathren Harris, EH, Rush Limbaugh,Karl Rove, Dick Chaney,W. Bush all in a plastic bag and go drop it into the Gulf…way, way out. Let them complain about the “liberals” on their way down!”
LMAO!!!
July 31st, 2008 at 12:30 pm
I think Elisabeth should have apologized for her statements about Obama/prayer when they announced their info was incorrect. I’m sure they kept their statement short and sweet as to not highlight the situation.
July 31st, 2008 at 12:43 pm
If you are unable to articulate your opinion without going shrill, shrieking at the audience, interupting your co-hosts and INVITED guests, bursting into invisible tears, and oh by the way that is your job to be able to interview professionally, and express yourself in a professional manner… then I would say you are a hot MESS.
Kay you are 100% correct, she also insinuated that was indicative of his character. An apology is needed.
July 31st, 2008 at 12:55 pm
abcnews.com has clips of Joy “rapping” the Ludicrous song and a longer version of the celebrity/opinion bit that huffpo has.
July 31st, 2008 at 12:57 pm
Why doesn’t anyone demand that Joy apologize for every lame-o joke she makes about Bush being dumb? We’ve heard them all before, Joy, we know you think you’re smarter than the president. Maybe we should demand an apology from her for disrespecting the office of the president?!?!!? EH was only disrespecting an arrogant dimwhit.
July 31st, 2008 at 1:04 pm
#14.
John McCain had 20 years to change things in Washington and he has failed to do so. His so called experience made him support the war in Iraq along with Bush’s disastrous foreign policy.
Obama was against the war before we even went in. He was running for the Senate at the time and the majority of the country supported it. I’ll take good solid judgment any day over years of bad experience.
July 31st, 2008 at 1:07 pm
>>When they returned from commercial break, Joy told Whoopi to tell everyone that they aren’t mad at each other.<<
Yes, I guess BW was watching, called in, and told them to put out the we all love each other BS. This show gets stupider by the day.
Enjoy your much needed vaca Winnie- you do stellar re-caps, and I actually enjoy reading them rather than watching the show. Today’s show was just painful, and I was thrilled to leave 10 minutes in.
July 31st, 2008 at 1:09 pm
well u know even rosie says that all tha is fake..and that they never spend time together off screen…its getting sickening
July 31st, 2008 at 1:10 pm
#28. I am not a fan of John McCain’s so say what you want about him. He’s too liberal for me. I just think it’s BS that the media glamorizes B.O. The only reason McCain didn’t get anything done in Washington is because he was too busy kissing democratic patooty.
Obama was against the war because he didn’t understand it. He still doesn’t understand it and that is why he is standing by his original judgement. Did you know that he was in the senate for like 141 or 142 days before he decided he knew enough to run for president? If that isn’t arrogant, than I don’t know what is. That’s less time than a 1st grader spends in his 1st grade classroom.
July 31st, 2008 at 1:11 pm
Joy,
please stop making jokes about GWB. You’re upsetting his base…You know the two people with the W stickers still on their cars.
July 31st, 2008 at 1:14 pm
# 38. ROTFLMAO!!
July 31st, 2008 at 1:16 pm
Hi—I am new here!
I watch the show every day. I have to say that even though EH gets on my nerves all the time, I think her problem is she doesn’t know how to adequately express herself. She doesn’t think before she speaks at all. Also, Joy has got to go. She makes me so uncomfortable with all the fidgeting and face making. Now she is even starting to whisper to Whoopi during the discussions. She is beyond rude. Even though EH is a twit she should be able to express herself without Joy having a heart attack every time. LOL
July 31st, 2008 at 1:17 pm
“I would also like to point out, that on that panel, she is the happiest person. ”
You think she looks happy? I don’t.
She alsways looks like she’s ready to snap. She has a whiny, “why is everybody picking on me” aura to her most days. Many days she looks nervous, like she has some sort of anxiety issues. Maybe it’s due to stress from her young kids, I don’t know. And today she looked to be on the verge of tears again. That’s not happy. happy people brush things off a lot more easier and don’t allow things to get to her. Bits has a major chip on her shoulder.
Out of all of them Sherri appears the happiest to me.
July 31st, 2008 at 1:19 pm

Kelly,
You are right about my height and hair color. No bangs though. I’m often told I look like Salli Richardson. Sounds like a cool dream. Oh and lavender is my favorite color.
misslingdow:
Love the term “hot mess”
July 31st, 2008 at 1:20 pm
Unfortunately, [for us viewers LOL ;-)], as long as Bill Geddie is part of the View the little Neo-Blonde will be as well. She is the tool BG uses to appease the right-wing agenda. And she gets paid very, very well to be their shill. How else can she and her football hubby (who only played part of 1 game last season) afford to live large in a $3.25 million high-rise Manhattan appartment? I think the GOP will keep her around for a while since it will take a while to pay back that amount of debt.
July 31st, 2008 at 1:20 pm
“Why doesn’t anyone demand that Joy apologize for every lame-o joke she makes about Bush being dumb?”
Because they are jokes? Because if the audience thinks it funny, they laugh and if they think it’s not they don’t laugh?
Comparing a JOKE to a baseless attack is really out there.
July 31st, 2008 at 1:30 pm
I think Babs is a Republican, she’s been hooking up with them for years and one of the major fund raisers is her good friend, Georgette Mosbacher. These people run in similar political circles and she is part of it. So lets be honest, it is not a totally “libral” panel, it is just that the mature Republicans don’t throw tantrums and screech soundbites that are fed from the party. I am enjoying the tantrums, she is nailing her coffin for future employment. Every time she acts up someone throws more money to Obama:)
July 31st, 2008 at 1:33 pm
i also agree that Sherri seems the happiest. Even when Whoopi would pick on her, Sherri just dismisses it with a smile or a laugh.
I think things will start to change for Elisabeth. Before, when she would cry, nobody paid attention. After Rosie came along, it was all about Rosie and even though Rosie was responsible for some of the bad press she got, she still got blamed for all of the arguments with Elisabeth.
But the last time Elisabeth cried, she got some negative media attention for it. You can only pull that off for so long and get away with it.
July 31st, 2008 at 1:42 pm
Sherri is constantly complaining about being lonely! How is that happy?
July 31st, 2008 at 2:00 pm
Thanks for the recap Winnie,
I think Sherri looks and seems the happiest as well.
I’m not going to bash Elisabeth, but I do so wish that she would express her view and opinions in a different way some times.
July 31st, 2008 at 2:00 pm
“So lets be honest, it is not a totally “libral” panel, it is just that the mature Republicans don’t throw tantrums and screech soundbites that are fed from the party”
Are you kidding me??????? BW is constantly reprimanding EH but no other hosts. And it is Joy who reads from her Daily Kos talking points. I find this site very mean spirited. It saddens me that liberals are so nasty. Fifty percent of this country do not share your view yet that panel is 80% liberal. I agree EH can be shrill but I honestly don’t think a good debater like Laura Ingraham would ever submit herself to having to always counter the misinformation spewed on this program.
July 31st, 2008 at 2:07 pm
Thanks Rain– I got a chuckle out of the “W” stickers LOL. Also, Salli Richardson = beauty– lucky you!! Why do people think he is arrogant? That puzzles me!?
July 31st, 2008 at 2:10 pm
Yes, Sherri has said that she feels lonely but her body language on the show always looks like she is happy to be there.
I also don’t see how complaining about men letting Sherri, Joy or Whoopi down makes them sad, angry people. I think all of us ladies and men can say that we have been broken hearted by someone. Joy and Whoopi have moved on. They both have said that they are happy in the relationships they are currently in. Sherri is going through a difficult divorce.
And maybe Elisabeth doesn’t complain about how men have wronged her but she has said on various occasions that she avoids having sex with her husband. She has said that she stays in the bathroom brushing her teeth for a long time just hoping that her husband will fall asleep or something so she won’t have to have sex with him.
Elisabeth and her husband also seem to have huge jealousy issues. SHe has said many times that she doesn’t approve of her husband having friends of the opposite sex. I would take Joy’s relationship any day over Elisabeth’s marriage.
Just my opinion. Sorry if i’ve offended anyone.

Anyone else notice that The View’s Thursday shows seem to constantly get a little heated?
YES………… I have been thinking the same thing.Sort of like having “cliff hangers” .
July 31st, 2008 at 3:45 pm
I also wish they would stop the “we all love each other”, blah, blah, blah. They lose all credibility when they do that, like why don’t they just come out with matching BFF t-shirts? I personally don’t care if they have a tantrum in the makeup room, don’t care at all if they hang out together. That’s their own private stuff. I just want to see good TV, and lately I can’t watch it. I just watch the clips and that tells me enough. EH just doesn’t tolerate anyone else’s viewpoints, has a LOT of growing up to do. If she is truly BG’s mouthpiece then she will never leave. I guess most people realize by now that all the mess last year wasn’t entirely Rosie’s fault, even Whoopie can’t seem to stand her, doth protest too much Whoopie.
July 31st, 2008 at 3:55 pm
Did not notice her roots

No, but I’m going to start noticing the roots of every woman I see from now on. And what again do dark roots mean besides it’s something to bash eh about?
rigged the last two presidential elections
I’ve already posted the NEW YORK TIMES link to their recount, bush had more votes.
a poll-tie for McCain and Obama. I just don’t see how that’s possible
The country is not as liberal as many wish it would be. Besides, don’t forget many conservatives sat out the last election to send a message to the party leaders. Since Mcsame is the nominee, it appears the party didn’t get it. The reps aren’t going to sit out this election, Obama has made sure of that.
(with the exception of Michael)
Even if I’m not in your dreams yet, at least you’re thinking of me.
When Obama is on the cover of every magazine at the store and every article speaks of him as if he is some sort of child of God
One can only imagine without the obviously biased support of the media how far behind in the polls Obama wold be. When the unbiased media talks about thrills up their legs over Obama it doesn’t take a 5th grader to see the bias.
credit for standing up for herself on that set. When Barb’s there, it’s 4 agains 1
I wonder how joy would do sitting next to Hannity, rush and Coulter. After nancy Pelosi admitted on the view a couple days ago that bush hadn’t commit any crimes to be impeached over even after rehearsing the bush crimes on the show Joy sat there and didn’t say a thing. What was it Nancy asked Joy, something about having the goods on bush. Joy’s silence spoke volumes.
Lot of nerve too with her “you can only have 1 opinion” statement. O Really, Bits?
So you hate eh and like her? Or just 1 opinion of her? Are you both for and against abortion?
She, like all the other women in this country have the right to vote..and free speech
God bless america.
I enjoyed Pamela’s interview. She was quite witty. She’s also very pretty.
She’s got it going on. She understands life and takes advantage of all her opportunities. Kudos to her. I’m not a fan of peta, yet her caring about animals is commendable the way she talks/promotes it.
Why doesn’t anyone demand that Joy apologize for every lame-o joke she makes about Bush being dumb?
Freedom of speech, just like eh enjoys. It goes both ways.
John McCain had 20 years to change things in Washington and he has failed to do so
Using that logic the ruling class has failed, both parties. How many decades have Kennedy, Pelosi, etc been on the public payroll.
Did you know that he [Obama] was in the senate for like 141 or 142 days
And of those days, how many votes did he miss or vote present on.
She doesn’t think before she speaks at all.
fire doesn’t melt steel.
You think she [eh] looks happy? I don’t. She alsways looks like she’s ready to snap
Imagine if conservatives outnumbered the liberals on this blog 4 to 1 and shared their opinion, how many would stay? Even because of little old me some have talked about not visiting this blog until I leave. And that’s 1 against XXX.
She is the tool BG uses to appease the right-wing agenda.
So Bill Gedde puts up eh to appease the right wing? He didn’t do them any favors did he. There are many many more qualified blondes that would do a much much better job expressing their views than eh. I feel it is more appropriate to say bg wanted to make republicans look bad. Imagine someone like Tammy Bruce instead of eh on the view.
And she gets paid very, very well to be their shill.
And yet in the same paragraph she’s also a very well paid shill.
i also agree that Sherri seems the happiest
Happy with her 2 year old on the other side of the country?
July 31st, 2008 at 4:08 pm
I’m just wondering ladies who are married or have boyfriends..How many of your guys watch the View?
July 31st, 2008 at 4:14 pm
“Freedom of speech, just like EH enjoys. It goes both ways.”
Thank you, Michael, that was the point I was trying to make. I like you.

My husband can’t even standing listening to the snippets I give him. I think he’d rather go to the dentist.
July 31st, 2008 at 4:16 pm
Married - he does not watch (when he’s home)…would rather fish. He does think EH is an impossible fool. The obnoxious behavior that conservatives exhibit is across-the-board…stepford wives and michaels.
July 31st, 2008 at 4:25 pm
LMAO! Lajet
Kelly,
I have to agree with you. I have Republican men in my family and every last one them are huge chauvinist. I’ve heard TLB say many times that her husband would not have married her if she didn’t agree to take his name. I have both my maiden name to honor my mother and my husbands last name.
July 31st, 2008 at 4:31 pm
Why do people think he [Obama] is arrogant? That puzzles me!?
The easiest example would be his use of his newly designed presidential seal. Until he found out polls didn’t approve of it at which point he threw it under the bus.
Imagine your outrage if bush had redesigned the presidential seal, before or after he was president.
July 31st, 2008 at 4:41 pm
First time poster here. I became aware of this blog after the n-word dust up and for whatever reason have kept up with show from these recaps/comments without actually watching the show.
I feel compelled to address the media coverage issue. I hope Michael can see that the media coverage is related to ratings and not to political bias. Whether you agree with him or not, you have to admit we’ve never seen a candidate packaged quite like this before. He’s fascinating and people tune in. I wish news was news-based and not ratings-based but unfortunately that’s the way it works now.
And the coverage of Obama isn’t always positive. Think of how many gaffes McCain has gotten away with and how scrutinized the Obamas are. if the media really is painting the Obamas out to be saints, why would Michelle need the image makeover that the MEDIA was saying she needed?
And look at McCain’s own ads — ads he’s putting out with his own campaign money. They’re all about Obama. McCain could take that opportunity to put himself out there but even he acknowledges that he’s just not interesting enough.
If the Republicans put out a candidate that was new and fresh and interesting that candidate would get more coverage. You only have to go back to 2000 when Bush got more coverage than the known commodity, Gore.

“Imagine your outrage if bush had redesigned the presidential seal, before or after he was president.”
I’d rather a president redesign the presidential seal than the Department of Justice.
(And it wasn’t a presidential seal anyway it was a campaign symbol. I doubt he’d stick BarackObama.com on the actual seal.)

Rain, Salli Richardson is very pretty!
July 31st, 2008 at 4:58 pm
Oh and Lajet - I REALLY like your replacement View panel suggestions…that would be a great show. I think we would also need Lilakoi Moon (Lisa Bonet).
July 31st, 2008 at 5:24 pm
I have to say I love Elisabeth now. She’s the only one who won’t go along with the Whoopi group think. Whoopi only wanted to talk about the OMG, so terrible! ad to make BO seem like a victim as usual, and Elisabeth thwarted her completey by mentioning all his many other flaws. Then Whoopi had to throw out her victimhood again. Didn’t she blame the same spineless Democratic Party for abandonning her in her time of need?
July 31st, 2008 at 5:51 pm
Rain, married here, 15 years together. He watches clips with me sometimes. He thinks Joy is goofy, thinks Sherri is “ghetto” and thinks EH is a bimbo or another name that wouldn’t be popular to say on here. The only thing I remember him asking about Whoopi is “can’t she read?” He called BW a cougar lol. That’s his new favorite term and he’ll say it about people to make me laugh.

I think the pertinent issue OUR nation needs to focus on at the moment is NOT:
- cleaning up the mess in the middle east
- impeaching Bush, Cheney and the rest of the gang for war crimes
- reduce our nation’s debt
- resuscitate our economy
but to get EH OFF of the view!!

July 31st, 2008 at 6:31 pm
I could not believe Elizabeth’s continued tirades, screaming, and overall unacceptable behavior. She doesn’t let anyone else talk-hense it should be a discussion - THE VIEW.
We stopped watching one time before and started again while Elizabeth was on leave. I like a good discussion, but until Elizabeth is gone or stops her tirades. We are are no longer watching The View in our
neighborhood in Vero Beach, Fl.
July 31st, 2008 at 6:41 pm
So I just watch a clip of the show and EH face when she said “there only on opion in this country” was deviod of any irony or jest and it makes me sick. I said before that she belives what she says and I do not know ho wthis grown woman could complain about a turning tided when the shoe has been on the other foot and she had no problem enjoying a pro bush world.
anyway it looks like am flying home to vote in novemeber.
ANT I know mccain paid for his ads (prefectly good ads)and that how I know he could do better.

Ohio Loves mibi, May, misslingdow and even me!!! See you at the voting booth.
July 31st, 2008 at 7:51 pm
So those of you who choose to keep your maiden name and take your husbands… what name do you give your child? I am a teacher and have many students with 2 last names. I often wonder what happens when Joey Smith-Thompson marries a woman named Susan Olson-Carlson. Do they name their kids Johnny Olson-Carlson-Smith-Thompson? Please, this is a serious question.
July 31st, 2008 at 8:11 pm
EH says that she likes celebrity magazines then bashes the media for promoting celebrity? Huh? I don’t see her skinny a** giving up her paycheck and her time in front of the camera (roots and mustache and all).
Hypocrite.

I was born, raised, and spent most of my life in good ol Ohio. (Toledo).
However now I live in a tiny little town in the South. Been here 15 years, and really love the small town atmosphere and friendliness.
My husband would never consider watching the View.
July 31st, 2008 at 9:09 pm
Kelly, I said I’m FROM Ohio, now living in NW Florida so I guess that means I can vote in both states…yea!
July 31st, 2008 at 9:16 pm
Lots of Ohians and an ex-Ohian (Sandy
)
I think a lot of eyes will be watching to see what Ohio does in the presidential election this year.
Rain, I am married and no my husband does not watch.

From Ohio, as well as family. Trust me, with gas $5, middle class loosing jobs, and iraq going to hell people are smart enought to vote for Obama.
July 31st, 2008 at 10:29 pm
oh yeah and fox noise is really fair and balanced
And the conservatives on abc, cbs, nbc, msnbc are??
Some stations don’t even try to be fair and balanced.
August 1st, 2008 at 4:04 am
Sandy - Toledo too (the stories I could tell you / and you me)!!!! I mentioned I was a whistleblower – well the headlines have been hot for three weeks and tomorrow a big announcement!!! Cleveland’s cleaning house too.
May, you are in both of the swing states? Perfect. My bet is Ohio has cleaned-up its act.
Hi Asha! They should move The View to Ohio. I do believe the majority of people will vote for reform (a liberal, thoughtful, reflective, wise view). Ohio already proved itself by removing a pile of corrupt Republicans and Noe. If Obama takes the Whitehouse, we just made history.
August 1st, 2008 at 6:53 am
Kelly, so we should all vote for Obama so we can make history, huh? Good enough reason for some, but not me.
My husband does not watch the View and can’t figure out why I am so intrigued by it. I am not sure myself, but I guess it’s nice to know that if those 4 idiots (everyone minus BW) can make it big than anyone can and that’s what I love about this country.

I will hold my uppity rant for another day!

Rumors are starting to swirl that Sherri is about to be fired and Barbara is denying it. We know what that means..
I hate to see anyone lose their job but Sherri really needs to be let go.. she is out of her league there, they need to hire someone with knowledge beyond knowing what was on TV the night before.
And as for her always looking happy…she always has that empty headed grin plastered on her face. She’s always grinning at herself in the monitors. She has nothing else to offer. This is from the TV show Extras website…

Sherri Getting the Boot from ‘The View?’
Posted by ExtraTV Staff on July 31, 2008 9:53 AM

“The View” is once again a veritable hotbed of controversy — and it’s only getting spicier! “Extra” is on rumor control as we track down talk queen Barbara Walters and ask her to set the record straight on stories that fellow host Sherri Shepherd is getting the boot from the Emmy-winning show!
The rumors follow Shepherd’s controversial remarks to a Christian magazine about “saving” Walters, who is Jewish. “We can argue but it is never personal,” reveals Babs. “There is no possibility of Sherri or anybody else on that cast getting fired.”
Walters also nixed reports that her memoir, “Audition,” will be adapted for the big screen. “I don’t want it. I won’t allow it,” states Barbara, “Because I don’t want anyone playing my sister — I don’t want anyone playing my father. I don’t care who they have playing me, but it’s the other family members I care about.”

August 1st, 2008 at 10:15 am
misslingdow, ROTFLMAO!
Kelly, we need more like you! You do the View crew proud!
ShannonP:
You summed up my husbands feelings about the show too.

I love the way you said “my husband would never consider watching the View”…LOL!
Must be something in the water in Ohio..there are some very awesome ladies coming from that state.
Am I the lone New Yorker?
August 1st, 2008 at 10:24 am
Yes Obama was heckled today, but instead of having the heckler removed like McCain has done in the past. He listened to him and answered his question. Obama is just so brilliant!
——
“What about the black community?” the protestors shouted, prompting Obama’s supporters to chant his slogan “Yes We Can” to drown them out.
“Excuse me, young man, this is going to be a question and answer session, so you can ask a question later,” Obama told one of the protestors.
“Sit down. You’ll have a chance to ask your questions, but you don’t want to disrupt the whole meeting. Just be courteous,” he said, before going back to his prepared remarks.
The unidentified protestor was later given a microphone, and accused Obama of neglecting the African American community.
“Why is it that you have not had the ability to not one time speak to the interests and even speak on behalf of the oppressed and exploited African-American community, or black community in this country,” he said.
Obama said the question was an example of “democracy at work.”
“I think you’re misinformed … when you say not one time,” Obama said.
“Every issue that you’ve spoken about, I actually did speak out of,” he said, arguing he had condemned predatory mortgage practices which hurt African Americans and spoken out on various civil rights causes.
“I was a civil rights lawyer. I passed the first racial profiling legislation in Illinois.
“I passed some of the toughest death penalty reform legislation in Illinois so these are issues I’ve worked on for decades,” he said.
“Now that doesn’t mean that I’m going always satisfy the way you guys want these issues framed … which gives you the option of voting for somebody else. It gives you the option to run for office yourself.”
Obama then leveraged the confrontation, carried on US cable television networks, towards his core campaign message.
“The only way that we’re going to solve our problems in this country is if all of us come together, black, white, Hispanic, Asians and native American, young, old, disabled, gay, straight.”

How will McBush and followers spin Obama’s addressing the heckler head on?
Kelly– You go girl– Fight the power!!
Nope, no View watching husband here either.

Ohio is well represented! LOL Thanks for the compliment Rain!
August 1st, 2008 at 11:22 am
Rain, lol I just saw the video clip of the heckling. Obama handled it very well, lol
misslingdow, they will probably say Obama was so aarrogant in answering them. Or claim it was some set up by the campaign.
Kelly, I am not familiar with James Hartung’s history. But I’m gathering that because of his position, the firing was a huge feat.

August 1st, 2008 at 1:08 pm
There was more than one heckler, and you know it, but I’m not going to get into that.
I’d rather focus on what we republicans mean by B.O. displaying arrogance. It also kind of goes to show how he thinks he’s some kind of Mesiah. Watch this new ad put out by McCain. I think it “speaks volumes.”

There’s no mention of more than one heckler on dailykos. So no, they didn’t know it.
August 1st, 2008 at 1:31 pm
Stacee,
Obama is so cool under pressure. No matter what they throw at him he just wipes it off and keeps going.
“Rain– you are correct– He is positively brilliant and a welcome breath of fresh air.”
I agree 100 percent.
From this little poll here, it doesn’t seem like the View has a large male audience. I wonder if the show was run by women from top to bottom, if it would be different. There are five male producers and three female producers. http://abc.go.com/daytime/theview/info?pn=producers
August 1st, 2008 at 1:33 pm
ANT I did not know how serios this obama thing is anyday now according to that ad you could get caught by light and find yourself saying I have got to vote for Obama. And of course someone smart, carismatic and ready for change is not ready to lead this country so you better keep your shades on
August 1st, 2008 at 1:45 pm

That ad just makes me like Obama even more. The reason people say he acts like THE ONE, is because he is THE ONE. The one that we need right now. I think McCain has some Obama fans in his advertising dept. because those ads just end up making McCain look like a fool and Obama even better. They’ve called him a celebrity and The One…two signs that they recognize he is something great, they just don’t know what to do about that. Mission not accomplished with those ads.
August 1st, 2008 at 1:45 pm
John McCain tells us in this ad that he learned not to lie, steal or cheat. Ask John Keating and his first wife, Carol.

Wow, small world, never thought there were this many fellow Buckeye’s here, and even a fellow Toledoan, and Winnie was born there.
Even though I don’t live there any longer, it’ll always be “home”.
Congratulations Kelly, and thanks for the link. I read the Blade once in awhile to keep up on things that relatives don’t tell me about.
I think I’m going to stay out of the political part of this discussion, at least for now.
August 1st, 2008 at 2:49 pm
ShannonP,
I just watched the ad on another site and I agree, someone in the McCain camp is working for Obama. ROTFLMAO!!
August 1st, 2008 at 3:01 pm
Okay – I cannot believe that you too Chris, are from Ashtabula, Ohio.
I do have a parallel story to share on what is going on with Toledo right now, and what is happening in this country (dems and repubes), but I have to take some precautions (the Toledo investigation is not over yet – not the real one – and we live in a very litigious society). Let me work on this a minute…but I can tell you now that Toledo is in mourning over Mr. Hartung, he was loved by many. I worked with him his entire 14 years…I was his Communications Director. Don’t bother looking for my bio Michael, they quickly removed it when I left.
So Stacee, I will have to answer your question through personal email or at a later time. I owe it to Winnie.
Today’s show…Monkeybone is Whoopi’s and Brandon’s skeleton in the closet – so funny. Awkward when the panel kept rehashing extra marital affairs with Ms. Walters, like they forgot she was sitting there. Even though Babs is a Republican, she sure has some very open-minded tendencies.
AND, the McCain ads are SO ridiculous, they will end-up costing McCain votes with anyone who was on the fence. They are laughable, weird, and childish. Not what you’d expect from a presidential nominee. Unbelievable how stupid his campaign bulldogs are.
August 1st, 2008 at 3:05 pm
i know it is silly but i am in a kind of silly mood today but I was thinking how obama could aswer these ads and i was thinking a couple quotes from mean girls could work. ( you know it is serious when you have to quote mean girls lol)
to the brit ad
“I sorry that people are so jelous of me but I can’t help it that I’m popular.
to ad posted here
“And I don’t wanna be punished
for being well-liked.”
am sorry could not help it enjoy your weekend everyone
August 1st, 2008 at 3:43 pm
Kelly, I totally understand.
When you get a chance and feel it is safe, I’d love to hear more about it. You can either contact me through this site if Winnie would be willing to forward my email address. Or Rain’s site.
I bet it was a long, harrowing experience.
I thought the ad was funny. I think it’s the McCain camp that has the obsession, lol
August 1st, 2008 at 6:08 pm
ANT: I don’t have THOSE problems; I have truth. It’s what separates me from you. I have gone public…
So, even though I have two last names, I decided that my son would carry only his father’s name (I remember how well my brothers related to my father and mimicked his every move). Have not had daughter (would love too), but might give her my maiden name as her middle. I know this will probably disgust you ANT, but I am half Mexican and half English/Italian/ Cherokee. Many Latin Americans keep both surnames as a sign of parental-respect. The children in South America usually carry the father’s surname and then the mother’s. It really isn’t because we want to confuse our child, but because we really want to pizz-off our child’s angry-conservative-snarl-lipped teacher. So, when did you stop being BUG and become Mrs. ANT?
August 1st, 2008 at 6:08 pm
I think it goes to show how ignorant his disciples really are.
I wouldn’t use the word ignorant. I think after bush many would pin all their HOPES for a CHANGE on any one that says what they want to hear.
According to the rasmussen poll Obama is up 45 to 43. The gallup poll has them tied at 44. It’s not looking good for obama even with all the help the liberal media is giving him.
Is rush a drug addict? Who cares, he’s not running for office. What about Obama admitting in his book his drug experience with pot and cocaine from someone that is addicted to cigarettes?
It was surprising that Barbs “had” the first black senator since reconstruction, Edward Brooke. Oh yeah, he was a republican. He was elected at the time when Martin L. King was still alive and fighting against the democrats.
Don’t bother looking for my bio Michael, they quickly removed it when I left.
Surprise surprise… I couldn’t care who you are.
But thanks for thinking about me enough to include me in your thoughts and words. I’m flattered.

Obama sure did a lot of stuttering and sputtering in response to the hecklers. Reminded me of Elmer Fudd. aaabdeeaaaabdeeaa…..that’s all folks!
August 2nd, 2008 at 9:25 pm
WOW!
How refreshing someone was allowed to protest at a presidential campaign rally — in the United States of America.
They were not wrestled down and hauled off.
WOW!
Folks, it is not 2004 anymore.
August 3rd, 2008 at 8:50 am
PRIOR PSOT: Obama sure did a lot of stuttering and sputtering in response to the hecklers. Reminded me of Elmer Fudd. aaabdeeaaaabdeeaa…..that’s all folks!
RESPONSE: Do I read an amusing anecdote? or a dig at Obama?
If the former, than yeah, I didn’t see it, but I can just hear what you are talking about.
If it’s the ladder, I’ll put BO’s eloquence and attempts to listen to those others won’t listen to up against the embarassingly mangled English of GB and the cowboy response to challenge, rather than BO’s considered response, and the “take them out and hang them” response of JMc to hecklers.
August 3rd, 2008 at 11:41 am
Lajet: Yes it was amusing. I didn’t see him give the speech but was listening to it on NPR on my way to work. Try as he might the words just wouldn’t come to him and the more he stammered and repeated himself the more the hecklers “gave it to him.”
No, I’m not going to dig Obama or McCain, there is already enough of that going on. And even though I lean toward the conservative side I am embarassed by and for both Bill O’Reilly and Sean Hannity. I won’t even mention Mr. Bush.

Sandy W and Lajet. if you have time check out the article that Stacee sent me on my blog. I think it would be a great topic for the ladies on the View.

The Oath:THE OATH:
I Kelly, do solemnly swear, not to interact with trolls – deliberate, antagonizers whose sole purpose is to disrupt the flow of debate to garner attention. These trolls are not expressing views, but inciting hate. If I should respond to a troll unaware, it is my hope that my fellow bloggers will advise me as such.
August 3rd, 2008 at 3:25 pm
Kelly,
Where do I sign? I second what Sandy said. Thank you so much for standing up for what’s right. They can’t win on issues so they’ll talk about nonsense like Paris and Britney. It’s so transparent, so sad and so pathetic.
August 3rd, 2008 at 4:21 pm
Kelly, I second what Sandy said. You have my admiration. Good job.
Rain, well said. Oh and please check your email.
August 3rd, 2008 at 8:50 pm
“I know this will probably disgust you ANT, but I am half Mexican and half English/Italian/ Cherokee.”
Kelly, why would this disgust me? You assume that I am a white European because I am conservative. Liberals tend to bring up race and gender more than conservatives, in my experience. That is one of a million reasons I choose to not associate myself with your party, even though it goes against the majority of my race, gender, and profession. Based on what you told me, I KNOW my skin is darker than yours, and I too, have a diverse ethnicity. This is what irritates me. Most liberals I have spoken to prejudge other people more than any conservative I know. That is what disgusts me.

Watching the view today, since it was a repeat it made obama look like he has flipped - flopped and flipped again.
EH asked a tough question of “the one,” about the difference between the speech obama gave in 2004 and his continued participation in the wright church.
Speaking of obama flip flopping-
In a dramatic reversal of policy, Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama on Saturday told supporters on the Space Coast he no longer favors slashing NASA’s budget, declaring that the United States “cannot cede our leadership in space.”
http://www.orlandosentinel.com/community/news/ucf/orl-obama0308aug03,0,4293362.story
Note he was on the “space coast.” Nothing like pandering.
Change you can believe in, on a daily basis.
August 4th, 2008 at 12:10 pm
Thanks everyone who answered my question about guys watching the view. It ’s a very odd thing to me that men would watch a show geared towards women… hmmmmm. In any case John McCain is going to be on the view and check out this video of him being stumped. At least Obama answered.

August 4th, 2008 at 12:58 pm
Lordy…what was the question again? I’d like to see FOX’s version of that speech.
Speaking of 3rd-term Cowboys, did anyone see the classic Dirty Dancing? Has anyone been to Moutain Lake Hotel? Nobody puts baby in the corner?
Anyone read Debra Winger’s book? How was it?
August 4th, 2008 at 1:01 pm
The Cowboy reference was actually in reference to Winger (Urban Cowboy)

PRIOR POST:Thanks everyone who answered my question about guys watching the view. It ’s a very odd thing to me that men would watch a show geared towards women… hmmmmm.
RESPONSE: And even odder that a man would admit it very publicly, and even odder that they would not only post, but post prominently and repeatedly. Is it odd that they would post in a manner to get a reaction rather than engage in stimulating and thoughtful discussion.
Just another example of how great a variety there is within one species, or perhaps an example of something else, but I’ll assume all is as it appears.
August 4th, 2008 at 6:30 pm
Lajet,
I really doubt that men set their clocks to watch The View. They might stumble onto it while surfing. And I really doubt that after stumbling upon it they would be inspired to seek out a blog to continue the discussion.
I think you hit the nail on the head as to why we question the motive –”Is it odd that they would post in a manner to get a reaction rather than engage in stimulating and thoughtful discussion.”
Huffingtonpost had a story about McCain actively recruiting Blog Trolls back in May.

August 5th, 2008 at 2:24 pm
What gets me is that Whoopi point blanked asked EH her opinion of the Ad then as soon as EH starts to respond…EVERYONE interrupts - this is from Whoopi who sits on her high Queen throne when she is talking! Then after EH finally is allowed to anwer the question she was asked, Joy cuts in with a snide..Let other people talk….WELL JOY if someone is asked a question, it’s polite to let them answer. And it was JOY who cut off Sherri when EH asked her her opinion. Heaven knows, if EH interrupted anyone with that kind of comment, she would have been booed off the stage.
Joy makes me sick. How can EH haters not see how Joy is even worse on the other side of the political spectrum - she is rude and crass.
I think The View watchers would find if EH ever left the show, viewership would plumment..
August 5th, 2008 at 2:42 pm
“I think The View watchers would find if EH ever left the show, viewership would plumment.”
Raise your hand if you’d like to try it and see. Just one hand per person ladies…LOL!
August 5th, 2008 at 3:22 pm
Rain,
LOL yes sounds like a great experiment to me.
I notice you limited the hand raising to the ‘ladies’.
Seems all the other panelists have side gigs. If EH were so popular, one would think after 5 years - she would be hosting some award show every now and then.
August 5th, 2008 at 3:33 pm
Thanks Sandy W., I missed that actual article on blog trolls. I know they have been virus-like during the W years, as I have seen it on celeb sites who dared to challenge the current Admin. It was an organized effort and almost totally male snipers.
Tragic how trolls see nothing wrong with a man who tells vile jokes about women and calls his wife a *#&%…oh wait, Bits doesn’t think there is anything wrong with that either.
August 5th, 2008 at 4:08 pm
“Tragic how trolls see nothing wrong with a man who tells vile jokes about women and calls his wife a *#&%…oh wait, Bits doesn’t think there is anything wrong with that either.”
i’m still waiting for Whoopi or Joy to mention this comment, but i doubt it. I think that certain things are banned from being said on The View because i doubt that Joy wouldn’t know about it.
August 5th, 2008 at 4:41 pm
Tragic how trolls see nothing wrong with a man who tells vile jokes about women and calls his wife a *#&%…
Tragic you have to resort to putting words in my mouth. Is that your idea of debate and discussion?
Seems all the other panelists have side gigs. If EH were so popular, one would think after 5 years - she would be hosting some award show every now and then.
What award show has joy hosted?
Since many of you are/have been mothers, isn’t raising children a full time job? How ever you feel about her politics, EH seems like a very involved parent.
August 5th, 2008 at 4:56 pm
I think Joy mothers Elisabeth a little. I think that is why she gives EH a pass from time to time. I think Joy, as many of us, believes that Elisabeth is going to have a hard landing someday.
Yes Dee, McCain has told many vile jokes and it is direct quoted reported that he in response to his wife Cindy commenting his hair thinning he said ‘At least I don’t plaster on the makeup like a trollop, you c*nt.’
What a gentleman. Does Cindy have a pre-nup?
I think Elisabeth does not know how ungentlmanly that was. Maybe she does not have the ability to recognise an abuser. Perhaps that is why Joy mothers her a little.
August 5th, 2008 at 4:58 pm

PRIOR POST: I just read on Celebitchy that Barbara wants Sherri to leave…says she is a loose canon. I say the loose canon on the show is EH. EH begone..henceforth and forever!
RESPONSE: Shaking my head. Sherri is the most humane, kind, real co-host of the bunch. I think she is also naive and not nearly as sophisticated as the others, perhaps not as intelligent (although I’m not convinced; she’s too funny to be stupid) and admit she does put her foot in her mouth at times.
I respectively disagree with you about EH being a loose canon. She’s totally, absolutely, predictable. Moreso than any of the others. Heck, we can predict what subjects she will bring up, and then what she will say.
If what BW wants if control, I can see getting rid of Rosie, and Sherri and keeping EH. Joy has been tamed (which must sting!) and Whoopi is just tired. Must admit, it never occurred to me until now that those were the employment considerations. Yuck. No wonder it’s so lifeless.

PRIOR POST: I just read on Celebitchy that Barbara wants Sherri to leave…says she is a loose canon. I say the loose canon on the show is EH. EH begone..henceforth and forever!
RESPOSNE: I just did a little surfing (why do I spend my time on this???) and learned an alleged major factor in the alleged desire to fire Sherri is her statement that she hopes BW gets saved.
This may not have been smart to say, but I don’t find it offensive. I wouldn’t find it offensive if you substituted my name for Barbara. Misguided perhaps. Not wise to state to a national audience. But not offensive.
Just suppose someone believes, with all their heart, that hte most important decision you can make is your decision about God and Jesus CHrist. And suppose you believe that if you make the wrong decision, it is an eternity of misery rather than peace. Would it not be reasonable for the person who believes this to want their friends to make the same decision/believe the same thing.
We can argue forever about whether someone should act on such beliefs, whether such beliefs are wise, true, false, fantastic, and whether evangelism is effective, rude, etc.
But I think if someone who believes they are “saved” wants someone else to be “saved” that it may very well because they care so deeply about the other person. I’ve not seen Sherri hitting people over the head with a Bible - that would be offensive. But to care about someone’s spiritual well-being seems kind. Perhaps misguided (I really don’t want to debate whether fundamental Christianity is the one “true” religion), but definitely not offensive.
I do think there are “Christians” who are VERY OFFENSIVE in their beleifs and attitude toward those “not saved.” I’ve not seen that with Sherri. Perhaps I am missing something.

I don’t think Sherri will be fired. She does not act like the brightest bulb on the show, but she is perfect for the “entertainment” label Barb touts for the show. Besides, they all love one another!

Open for debate and discussion. Is obama being disingenuous or does he know his supporters aren’t concerned with the truth.
Did anyone see the pics from the enquirer, maybe john edwards should come clean with his affair now. The liberal media has ignored the story long enough.

I am sorry Michael please refer to YOUR prior post above # 07 (107) which reads and I quote:
“Is rush a drug addict? Who cares, he’s not running for office”
Who cares– he’s not running for office and wow I never figured you for a tabloid source kind of guy–
August 6th, 2008 at 5:40 pm
#172 - Ohhhh, Michael - Misslingdow got you!
That Enquirer photo didn’t even look like J.E. (from Huffingtonpost.com) It would be interesting though — Gee, J.E. is human just like Rush!
The problem I have with Rush’s prescription drug problem is that he holds himself on such a pedestal. I once owned my own business (mid-90’s) and would sometimes work overnight — Rush was always there to keep me so p*ss*d off that I easily stayed awake!!
Winnie - looks like we’re really missing your recaps for something to re-hash & bash!!
August 6th, 2008 at 5:50 pm
Further troubling is that, IIRC, Rush Limbaugh used illegal means to gain access to prescription drugs. There is some evidence that John Edwards is loyally covering for a friend that is the real father of the child in question and even if he was the father, he didn’t break a law.
So, again, we go back to the debate about what is between a man and a woman in a marriage and what is against the law. How hard is it to understand the difference? Even if you’re sort of slow, it’s pretty easy to get the distinction.
August 6th, 2008 at 8:17 pm
So, again, we go back to the debate about what is between a man and a woman in a marriage and what is against the law.
Okay, let’s see if you believe what you write.
Since it’s about “what is against the law,” why does it matter what mcsame does at some biker rally with his wife. After all, there were no laws broken, I’m sure even you would admit that.
Who cares– he’s not running for office and wow I never figured you for a tabloid source kind of guy–
Comparing rush and edwards is not fair, rush has never ran for office, nor has he held office. Edwards has ran for senate, veep and president. If the looney faction of the democrat party got their way edwards would be the nominee. Edwards had a shot at obama’s veep or a cabinet position. Now, edwards has blown it.
There are many many more links now about the edwards affair besides a tabloid now. Did you know the same tabloid brought to light that jesse jackson was having an affair? It’s a pretty sleazy business, if it wasn’t true why would a filthy rich lawyer not be getting a cease and desist order. Or why not just take a dna test and prove his innocence. For those of you that think the swiftboaters made everything up (seared in my mind on XMAS eve, throwing medals over the fence, etc.), edwards saw the damage that occurred because kerry didn’t fight back and prove his side of the story. Why instead of fighting back does edwards duck and hide from reporters.
The problem I have with Rush’s prescription drug problem is that he holds himself on such a pedestal.
Prescription drug addiction, how many times a year do you think that happens to people not involved in politics. I was surprised he had a problem. If it had been recreational drugs it probably would have ruined his career.
August 6th, 2008 at 8:31 pm
But, Michael, what is YOUR opinion? I’m glad you mentioned that you were surprised at Rush’ prescription drug addiction because it’s a rarity that you offer up your own personal opinion for debate. Rush hasn’t run for office because no one is paying him to (my opinion). We can go round and round but bottom line for me is … at least these guys (as imperfect as they are) are putting themselves out there. Can you say the same for yourself?????
August 6th, 2008 at 8:35 pm
Berndoubt you are right what Rush did was illegal and he pled guilty and made a deal to avoid trial.
“updated 7:48 p.m. ET, Sat., April. 29, 2006
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - A three-year investigation into drug use by Rush Limbaugh ended abruptly when the conservative commentator was booked on a single charge of prescription fraud in a deal his attorney says spares him a trial.
The charge will be dropped if Limbaugh continues treatment, attorney Roy Black said Friday.”
August 6th, 2008 at 8:41 pm
Hey Bev,
Seriously that picture looked nothing like John Edwards. The man with the baby looks like Mark Harmon with a photoshopped sweaty t-shirt.
August 6th, 2008 at 8:52 pm
Hey Sandy W.! I agree, it didn’t look like J.E. to me either … I’m not a J.E. groupie but it seemed a stretch photo-wise.
August 6th, 2008 at 8:53 pm
we are all human and we make mistakes. But there is a difference between living your life and trying to make policy and force everyone to live by standards that not even you can live up to.
mccain’s insulting comments about his wife , along with his vote in the senate regarding women’s issues, clearly shows that he is sexist.
August 6th, 2008 at 9:01 pm
Red - you make a good point … what I can’t get my head around is — where are his “handlers” for these situations!?! These are such obvious gaffes…I just expect that during campaign season, everyone is on their best behavior. McCain’s sense of humor is simply lost on me.
August 6th, 2008 at 9:06 pm
@Beverly
i’m sure you heard about that horrible joke he made about Chelsey Clinton and Janet Reno. What an awful joke.
August 6th, 2008 at 9:22 pm
McCain could have been more decent about how he handled his divorce of Carol Shepp McCain. McCain divorced her on her proverbial sickbed (a la Newt Gingrich).
What kind of supposed war hero divorces the woman who waited for him to return from the war. Carol Shepp McCain had concealed her own life-threatening car crash injuries for his benefit.
McCain married Cindy, one month after dumping Carol Shepp McCain, who, as Sen. McCain so gallantly put it, “was on crutches and had gained quite a bit of weight.”
While serving in the military engaging in extra-marital affairs is a violation of the Uniform Code of Military Justice rules against adultery…
August 6th, 2008 at 9:33 pm
But, Michael, what is YOUR opinion?
I don’t care if rush takes drugs. From everything I’ve heard/read, he never put anyone else in jeopardy. I feel the government’s “war on drugs” is as stupid as the governments “war on poverty.” As long as the person enjoying getting high doesn’t have a negative impact on others, like driving or parenting, why should anyone care what someone does with their lives. Once their drugs (and alcohol) start impacting on innocent people (besides making their loved one sad), the penalty should be severe.
I’ve been on here late at night sharing my opinions and myself. They get deleted the next morning by Winnie for being off topic.
Why would rush want to run for office. Look how much he’s hated already.
August 6th, 2008 at 9:34 pm
Oops, hit send too soon.
If you mean my opinion about rush/hypocrisy. ALL humans are hypocrites. Even me, as hard as it might be for many of you to believe it.
August 6th, 2008 at 9:34 pm
I say leave Michael alone. He’s talking out of both sides of his mouth and just baiting everyone. Comparing Rush to JE is a red herring and irrelevant - not to mention the lack of knowledge and consistency in his comments. Just ignore - it’s like talking to EH. He doesn’t rely on logic and consistency, selectively quotes, and reports rumors as fact - which makes it an exercise in frustration and a total waste of time - sort of like listening to EH Hmmmm. Maybe he is EH. I wouldn’t be shocked. SHe probably thinks that’s a compliment. Back to Carly Simon and trolls.
August 6th, 2008 at 9:43 pm
Amen Lajet.
Has Carly Simon revealed any other letters than “a” and “e”?
Of course she did say she will never reveal the song subject’s identity.

You must have women in your life that you love and respect. Would you ever consider call them a c***. And yes let’s leave it as the C-word. Unlike what you did with the N-word — do not spell it out.
Truly I don’t think you would call any woman in your life that — even in anger. So address the hurt and stop with picking apart the words. McCain was wrong to call his wife Cindy a c***.
Don’t you agree?

No I would not call a woman the “c” word. I wouldn’t call a black person the “n” word. If you didn’t ask me not to, I would have spelled the words out.
I don’t feel it was very classy of mcsame to call his wife a c.

In my life I have learned that what a person doesn’t like about others is often what they see in themselves.

#184 - Michael thank you. I happen to agree with you wholeheartedly about the “War on Drugs”. Re: your comment “why should anyone care what someone does with their lives” … that’s it EXACTLY! Which is why I’m also Pro-Choice. Which is why we should protect our Freedom of Religion and all the others that encompass and overlap ALL various populations. We should have the right to pick and choose which of those freedoms and how we want to apply them to our personal lives.
My point is: We have 2 major political parties that concentrate on emphasizing the worst in the other rather than working from the position that we ALL (as humans) want the same thing. Opportunity — in ALL things.
What we’ve have are Opportunists at the highest level riding on the backs of the rest of us. We let perceived moral differences distract from the business of running this country. And look where it has gotten us. Opportunity for a few.
Anyway, not ALL of your late evening posts get deleted, Michael.
I read the ones you refer to (before they were gone) and it wasn’t just your comments, it was the whole exchange.

“I say leave Michael alone. He’s talking out of both sides of his mouth and just baiting everyone. Comparing Rush to JE is a red herring and irrelevant - not to mention the lack of knowledge and consistency in his comments. Just ignore - it’s like talking to EH.”
Lajet,
I completely agree! Thank you!
