The View July 3rd Recap: Sarah Jessica Parker Re-run

by Winnie McCarthy

Today’s episode of The View originally aired on June 16, 2008. It features Sarah Jessica Parker, Dr. Gadget with great gifts for Dad, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan. You can read the original recap here.

fireworks.jpg I thought that in honor of the upcoming holiday weekend here I would make the question today a little more light and fun.

Today’s Watching the View hot topic:

What are your favorite memories of the 4th of July holiday? What were your favorite 4th traditions growing up and what traditions have you established as an adult?

I loved when I was young to wave sparklers around and watch my dad let off bottle rockets in the backyard. I also loved those little snakes and mini-tanks.

UPDATE: I decided to add a little feature called “What would they be talking about?”
My predictions on what the ladies of The View would have discussed today, had the show been live:
1) Whether Cynthia Rodriguez, wife of NY Yankee Alex Rodriguez, is having an affair with Lenny Kravitz.
2) Whether they are excited by the announcement of the Friends movie.
3) What they think Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt should name their twins.

Feel free to answer any of these even lighter topics if you so choose.

i lovei loved walkin up the hill to see the fireworks with family and neighbors. i think they would talk about all those subjects

  2. ShannonP Says:

Winnie, your hot topics you guessed they’d be talking about made me laugh. I think they’d definitely be talking about those.
My favorite memories include camping and fireworks shows. Or how my parents and my sister and I would buy those little things that when you throw on the ground they snap…and we’d try to scare each other with them by doing it when the other wasn’t expecting it.

  3. Winnie McCarthy Says:

Oh, I forgot those snap things! I used to love those, too.

  4. Lajet Says:

WINNIE: UPDATE: I decided to add a little feature called “What would they be talking about?”

RESPONSE: I love it. wicked :)

    1. First thing I thought of Angelina Jolie!!! Whether they think she really moved to France
Whether they think she gave the real reason why she moved to France
Whether they approve of her move to France
What effect the move to France will have on her children, career.

    2. Whether OJ Simpson is guilty, in light of the newest tape.
Whether we should withhold judgment because afterall, it’s innocent until proven guilty (fully expecting they will have no understanding that this only applies to jury members and judges; everyone else is allowed to make decisions for themselves regardless of the verdict - and if anyone would let their child spend the night with MJ, even though he wasn’t found guilty, should be examined for their judgment!

    3. EH will bring up how brilliant, intuitive, and prescient JMcC is because he was in Columbia when all the excitement happened and BO was sitting on his thumbs at home - who showed judgment this time!

    4. Wimbledon - which could be interesting, but will probably be boring. I’d actually like a fluff piece on the fashion and style at Wimbledon (and tennis in general) EH could wonder about the role of race in the contest.

  5. marilyn Says:

OMG WINNIE !!!!!!!!! You have hit the nail on the head with the combo. of serious and fluff hot topics. Our group of bloggers are capable of stepping up to the plate and discussing the lighter side or the serious stuff. I have enjoyed this weeks ” in depth” comments, even though I did not join in the responses. I felt I was in over my head, after the first few sentences of everyones great remarks. This week has been a blast, even if I did not share my limited point of view.
2- This 4th of July will be similar to my own childhood days. There will be a family picnic and after dark we will watch the fireworks. Some things never change, thank goodness.

  6. Stacee Says:

They’d be talking about monkey sex, which would lead into more “hot” topic discussions about another women’s sex survey that says women hate sex.
EH would then talk about all the teens she’s busted making out at the park.
Sherri would reminence about the sex she had with her soon to be ex.
Barb would mention the sex stories she talks about in her book (yes, another shameless plug).
Joy would bring up Monica and Bill.
And Whoopi would cut in with a stupid sex segue leading into commercial.
    :rolleye:

  7. Stephanie Says:

    LMAO at #6

    Wow that is… spot on!!!

  8. Sandy Says:

My favorite memory is of family picnic’s at the park. All the relatives got together, we’d spend the day playing all sorts of things. Stay for the fireworks at night.
It was wonderful, for there were a few cousins I didn’t see often.

    # 5 Marilyn,
I agree this has been a nice week, and I’ve enjoyed Winnie’s topics.
I wish you had joined in. I believe our seniors have GREAT insight, with so much to offer. You might think your point of view is limited, but I can bet that you have more to offer than you may think.

  9. carmen Says:

    #8,
Marilyn didn’t say anything about being a senior. Why assume that’s what she meant?

  10. Watching The View » Blog Archive » The View July 7th Recap: A Day of Hot Topics Says:

[...] Rodriguez and the fact that he is getting divorced from wife Cynthia due to reported infidelity. (Didn’t I say they would talk about that?) Madonna has denied having an affair with Alex and Lenny Kravitz has denied having an affair with [...]

  11. Sandy Says:

    # 9 Carmen,
I can understand your question, after rereading my comment to marilyn.

Although, I didn’t assume that marilyn meant at all, that she felt she had a limited view on the topics discussed, because she is a senior.
I sure hope that marilyn did not interpret my comment that way.

It’s just from previous comments, I know that marilyn is one of our senior citizens. I think our seniors have great insight in the present and our future, because of all the past they have lived and observed. I think there is so much to be learned from our seniors.

  12. carmen Says:

Generalizations and labels make me nuts. And just because someone might have mentioned before she is a senior doesn’t mean it should be brought up again if she has not, as if her being a senior is a reason for her comments. Maybe it is and maybe it isn’t.

I also don’t think just because someone is a certain age means they necesarily have great insight or wisdom.. Marilyn of course this is not a reference to you.

there is such a thing as commenting too much.
