The View June 18th: Michelle Obama guest hosts (Video)

UPDATE: Video clips added below. There are four altogether. I haven’t even gotten a chance to watch them myself, but I wanted to post them for all of you.
Today is one of the biggest days on The View in awhile because Michelle Obama, potentially the next first lady of the United States, will be guest hosting on The View. I am sure that you will understand how thoroughly annoyed I am by the fact that I won’t be able to watch the show live today because of work commitments. That being said, I am sure that a lot of media outlets will be covering today’s episode, so check back to this space for links to transcripts and video clips if you can’t see the show either. I will try to post them when they become available in between my work meetings.
If you are able to see the show, please comment away on this post about how you think Michelle did, whether you think the hosts asked good questions, and what you think of Elisabeth Hasselbeck’s treatment of Michelle Obama versus how she interacted with Cindy McCain. (I bet they are quite different).
I will be able to watch the show tonight and will provide my usual recap (I mean it this time!), even if it will seem old news by then.
The View, Barack Obama, Michelle, Obama, Elisabeth Hasselbeck

June 18th, 2008 at 6:29 am
This is one show I won’t miss. I hope the ladies will do their homework and ask her some tough/fair /important questions. Winnie, I know you’ve heard this a dozen times, but I also appreciate your commitment to this blog and to keeping us informed on all things the View.
June 18th, 2008 at 6:49 am
I am never satisfied with the interview questions on The View. And today I have a feeling will be even worse being that she is a guest cohost.
As for Elisabeths treatment of Michelle, I see her being very overly chummy and respectful of her. There will be no mention of Rev. Wright. She isn’t as tough as she tries to portray herself.
And I remember I was surprised when Cindy McCain guest cohosted. Elisabeth didn’t act much different then she usually does. I thought she would have been falling all over her but she didn’t.
June 18th, 2008 at 7:09 am
It certainly should be an interesting show today. I am definitely looking forward to it.
June 18th, 2008 at 8:48 am
Because Michelle Obama will be in the role of a “host”, rather than a guest interview, I think there will be some low key, well scripted, “chit chat” at the beginning of Hot Topics. Then, on with the show !! I see EH as a gal, who CAN show respect and manners . I noticed that CNN is advertising Joy Bahar on LK ( I think ) tonight, in an interview about The View show with Michelle Obama.
I am looking forward to the show. If there is an ABC news alert or power failure, I will scream.
June 18th, 2008 at 8:59 am
It’s being reported that EH will be on one of the Fox shows to discuss the interview as well.
June 18th, 2008 at 9:19 am
I live in Manhattan and I saw an extra long line today outside of the studio where they broadcast the View and it seemed like more people showed up extra early. Who knows how many disappointed Obama fans will be turned away because they don’t have enough space for them in the studio audience.
June 18th, 2008 at 9:26 am
It’s about 20 minutes into the show…I can do WITHOUT Barbara Walters! She annoys the hell out of me. I feel so weird typing that since she has accomplished so much but my goodness!!((vent over))
I can’t wait to see what all of you think of the show.
June 18th, 2008 at 9:26 am
Michelle was beautiful, poised, and well spoken as usual. EH, as usual, made it about herself, commented endlessly and even spoke about herself in the 3rd person. EH was attempting to be delightful, but just watch her FOX interview, you’ll see another side. Michelle seems so down to earth. What you see is what you get. She was gracious to EH, stopping short of calling her smart - and instead decided “funny” was the appropriate description. I couldn’t agree more. Michelle is one smart cookie.
June 18th, 2008 at 9:30 am
I thought it was shockingly honest how Whoopi made the comment how most black women you see on the news at night have no teeth. I know everyone must of been thinking OMG.
But in reality, people are really looking for a direct honest discussion about race in this country that we have never had before. Unfortunately, I see Fox News pouncing on this big time.
June 18th, 2008 at 9:41 am
“Michelle was beautiful, poised, and well spoken as usual.”
I totally agree. She came across very down to earth and she seemed very at ease with the ladies.
“Unfortunately, I see Fox News pouncing on this big time.”
Andrew,
I was thinking the same thing..Here we go again.
June 18th, 2008 at 9:43 am
#9, Totally awkward comments from Whoopi today. It was clear to me that she made Michelle uncomfortable, and she noticeably didn’t respond to her, but turned towards Barbara as she changed the subject. Whoopi even sat there afterwards looking stunned as if she was expecting Michelle to be so gratful for her comments.
I think Michelle is beyond adressing those kind of comments. I think if Whoopi wants to thank Michelle for being a ‘dark toned black woman’ she should thank her by not even bringing that up. Lets concentrate on the fact that her husband will make a great president and I look forward to her being the First Lady.
June 18th, 2008 at 9:50 am
Most surprising (other than Whoopi’s comment on gold-toothed black women poorly representing) was that Michelle did NOT want Barack to run. That does say A LOT about her, her concerns as a parent and wife and her lack of interest in power and status. She decided, as a citizen, and in the interest in a better America for her children that Barack should do what he was called to do. Stunning to me. Also, no mention of Rev. Wright. EH pulled out her daughter’s feeding schedule in the middle of Michelle’s Q&A. Please Ms. Walters, why? Just why is she still there? EH gets more airtime than all the other co-hosts, Barbara and guests combined. I loved the fist-bump through-out the show, knowing that EH was very critical of the Obama’s love-tap as being “distracting” and calculating…but EH sat there with a frozen smile on her face and said naught. Ah, if only she could hold that pose…
June 18th, 2008 at 9:54 am
“Lets concentrate on the fact that her husband will make a great president and I look forward to her being the First Lady.”
I must admit I cringed when I heard Whoopi say what she said. How did she expect Michelle to respond? I understand the sentiment, but she should have chosen her words differently.
A lot of disadvantaged people can’t afford dental insurance, and therefore they neglect their teeth. Not being able to speak proper English isn’t limited to one group of people.
June 18th, 2008 at 9:59 am
Elisabeth pulling out that obsessive compulsive feeding list and asking for Michelles approval was absurd. I was sitting there in awe of what a nut job of a mother she is. I feel so sorry for those kids. She can’t even just feed her baby without making some dictator like instruction set up in calender form.
And Sherri…
just as I thought, contributed NOTHING to the interview.
Her burning question to Michelle? Asking her if Barack still takes out the garbage and mentioning that if her son takes the binky out of his mouth he too can become president. @@
June 18th, 2008 at 10:02 am
What was Whoopi thinking?????? No, I have a better question than that…what is she SMOKING? OMG! I couldn’t believe it. That was totally inappropriate! Wow! Unbelievable!
June 18th, 2008 at 10:03 am
Fox is advertising this:
Exclusive Interview: When Michelle Obama guest co-hosted on ‘The View’ there was no lack of excitement as heated arguments with fellow cast members unfolded. Elisabeth Hasselbeck gives us her view…
********************************************
Michelle was extremely gracious to EH after all she has said about her…she will make a great first lady. I also loved her note to Laura…which I agree Laura has come out for both Teresa Heinz Kerry and Michelle.
They did treat Michelle different from Cindy, as Cindy seemed to be more of an observer. Regardless, Michelle did wonderful, in spite of this group!:)
June 18th, 2008 at 10:05 am
Well, Whoopi said it: Whoopi’s ‘favorite extraordinary woman’ EH will be on Sean Hannity tonight, same time as Joy’s interview on Larry King Live. I would love to know which show garners higher ratings…because I would love to know how America is leaning in this election. God help us.
June 18th, 2008 at 10:05 am
Before HT ended Whoopi mentioned that Joy was going to be on Larry King tonight, but no mention of Elisabeth doing any shows. What show is she going to be on tonight? Probably Hannity and Colmes.
June 18th, 2008 at 10:07 am
Tina,
I have a feeling Whoopi’s comment is going to get more attention than Michelle’s interview. I just watched it again…WOW!
June 18th, 2008 at 10:09 am
Rainlillie…
I agree with you, Whoopi remarks to Michelle will be all over the media any minute now. As Whoopi would say, she stepped in some deep dog doo doo with those comments. I hope it doesn’t PISS HER OFF too much.
June 18th, 2008 at 10:21 am
Whoopi’s comments remind me of the time Bill Cosby took to task our young black men (and women?) for wearing their pants around their ankles, their profanity-laced rap and slang/ebonics. Whoopi’s remarks will grow some legs but Joy will keep the focus on Michelle tonight. If the Obama camp’s intention was to show a nurturing, soft side to Michelle on The View…I’d say mission accomplished. She’s someone you feel you could sit down to dinner with and have a marvelous time. However, no tough questions…not enough time.
June 18th, 2008 at 10:32 am
i think michelle did a great job on the show and looked wounderful unforutnaly am not sure her detractors are not going to continue to try and paint her as a sinnister character.
i think whoppi ment well with her comment but it came out wrong.and am sure there are many light skin peolple(including whoppi daugther) going what i do not count and what was michelle supos eot do thank her parents for her dark skin genes.
but i think whoppi ment well and i see what see was tring to say. however as i said before i would not want anyone to look at the black people on tv and assume that I as a black person is anything like them
( though in the case of MO it would not be a bad thing)
June 18th, 2008 at 10:34 am
“I was sitting there in awe of what a nut job of a mother she is. I feel so sorry for those kids. She can’t even just feed her baby without making some dictator like instruction set up in calender form.”
I’m so annoyed that I missed the show. Could someone please elaborate on what EH said about feeding her baby. Thanks.
June 18th, 2008 at 10:35 am
#13 Rain– You totally hit the nail on the head!
June 18th, 2008 at 10:43 am
I’m in a charitable mood, so I’m going to cut TLB(EH) some slack with the feeding schedule. It must be tough to leave your children for a few days, especially a baby.
I think she made the list to make herself feel involved even though, she isn’t physically there.
Mothers always feel no one can care for their children like they can. At least that’s how I feel.
June 18th, 2008 at 10:49 am
I enjoyed Michelle Obama’s co-hosting. I feel Whoopi’s comments re: seeing more positive images of Black women in the media was well intentioned–not enough time to discuss in detail. Good line Joy following the gambling bit - “Change We Can Believe In”.
June 18th, 2008 at 10:49 am
Hi All. Video clips added to post above for those of you who missed it. I haven’t gotten a chance to watch them yet because no video allowed my work computer.
June 18th, 2008 at 11:16 am
I sure hope Whoopi has small feet (unlikely) because she sure put one of them smack dab in her own mouth. I mean, what was she thinking. Some of the most beautiful images I have of black women are seen on T.V. daily. Michelle handled that comment, with little or no acknowledgement.
E H thats a great format you use for your babies organization. I use it for lesson plans.
Excellent job having Michelle on a whole hour. Thank you ladies!
June 18th, 2008 at 11:18 am
In case you can’t run the video: Elisabeth stopped Michelle in the middle of the much-anticipated Q&A (which started out with Whoopi asking Michelle to explain her “I’m Really Proud of America Right Now” comment) to show the nation her feeding schedule for son Taylor. EH and HER show, The View, are heading to Las Vegas to film, and it never occurred to EH to stay home that week (month?) with her infant, but it did occur to her to tout how many hours she spent preparing a computer-generated feeding chart for her non-ball tossing husband. God I feel sorry for him – no – no I don’t. Not only did she bring the show-and-brag item, she had Bill Getty place the image on the overhead screen. The feeding schedule detailed what and when little Taylor could eat (he’s on the 3-4 day food introduction plan designed to prevent food allergies – looks like Sweet Potato and Chicken dinner for 4 days straight). EH has a gluten thing I guess. EH managed to usurp the focus and kill the usefulness of the program. I feel really sorry for all the people who had to stand in line. The EH demonstration only served to show EH in another self-absorbed, self-centered light – she really doesn’t get it….it’s all about her. Poor Mrs. Obama, what a waste of precious time she could have spent with HER kids.
June 18th, 2008 at 11:32 am
Oh man oh man I’ve been waiting for this one since they annonced Michelle Obama would co-host. I also hoped that EH would’ve taken the day off today like Sherri being out when Cindy McCain was on (even though I believe Sherri was off for personal reasons).
It’s on right now here in LA and I can watch it here in my office but I’ve grown so accustomed to go home make dinner, sit back and watch from my comfy couch. So much that ‘The View’ to me is an evening talk show LOL! I want to be able to watch it with no distraction and scream at the TV if I have to.
From what I hear..Whoop may have really ’stepped in it’ (as she would say) with that remark. I cannot wait to see it for myself. I just may watch that sneek peek above even though I want to wait.
I’m also looking forward to Joy on Larry King and am curious about EH on H&C. It’s interesting that they did not do outside interviews when Cindy McCain was on a few weeks back. Not that there would’ve been much to discuss since she did not contribute much and really just engaged in the ladies’ usual banter.
Anyway…I’ll be checking in to see others as the day rolls on.
Happy Michello Obama On The View Day!
June 18th, 2008 at 11:48 am
Hello again. I have taken up a gig with Fox Entertain…er, uh, News, so make sure you all tune in there for a different view.
From the 10 minutes I saw, it looked to me that Michelle seemed well poised but perhaps a little nervous being surrounded by questioning hosts–except for Sherri Shepherd who was mostly nodding and smiling. I admire Michelle. Certainly anyone may be intimidated by not only her intelligence but also by her strong physique which, compared to mine, makes me look like Ron Paul.
May God bless this show and this blog. Without either my job here at Fox would be that much more boring. Is the View in need of a guitar player?
June 18th, 2008 at 11:52 am
Vegas & all others…All the comments about Elisabeth being a nut job or a bad parent is just RIDICULOUS! How can you speak harshly about someone’s parenting skills when you don’t know them personally?!?! WHO cares if she made a food chart? How does that make her a bad parent or a nut job? I definitely don’t agree with EH political view, but that won’t stop me from calling some of you out on your outrageous comments about her. It’s one thing to say I don’t like her “View”, but it’s another to constantly pick at every little thing she does. ((Back to lurking))
June 18th, 2008 at 11:54 am
exactly!!!!!
June 18th, 2008 at 11:58 am
Michelle did a great job as cohosting today. The ladies seemed nervous..Whoopi spilled her drink while trying to talk to her, the rest sat there with grins from here to there, unblinking to say the least. EH jumped right in there at the start saying the papers said “watch out for a fight between Michelle/EH” and she bent over backwards with a false grin for rest of show. The showing of the schedule for her kid was totally ridiculous..making the show about herself as usual. I laughed when Sherri took the paper from her and threw it over behind her back on the floor. EH raced over to get it. Bawa called EH obsessive/compulsive..how true!! I enjoyed the food segment with all ladies except miss bleached blond know it all!
June 18th, 2008 at 12:22 pm
SweetLaydy - we all know how well EH prepares for the show by reading up on her Hannity, TMZ, Limbaugh, and FOX News - but today, she prepared for one of the most-anticipated shows with a feeding schedule? Why not just bring in a homemade frog race obstacle course for that matter? I mean, what the heck did that have to do with Michelle Obama? EH tried desperately to find a segue from Michelle to her chart – you had to notice. What a waste of valuable time with someone we all tuned in to see – Mrs. Obama. I wanted some Meat & Potato Politics, not Sweet Potato & Chicken Dinner for Taylor. I don’t know a thing about EH’s parenting, but I do know she has no credentials or talent for that coveted spot on The View. She is obliviously out-of-her-league. One does not have to try hard to find things to pick apart with EH; she offers them up readily and often.
June 18th, 2008 at 12:27 pm
Gosh, I hope the terror fist jabs weren’t too distracting for EH today.
Whoopi sounded so dumb and stupid with her no teeth comment. WTF kinds of shows does she watch anyway? Yet she thinks she is all knowing and so intellectual. Even ditsy Sherri knew it was a stupid thing to say. And I know a lot of people like Whoopis style but I thought she looked sloppy today.
Michelle looked great. Loved the dress, it was very flattering. I thought she came off as fun, poised and really easy going.
Not quite getting the whole food meal chart, but whatever.
Whoopi really bugged me when she had to come out during the food segment. If she wanted to be a part of it, she should have from the start. Her jumping out from backstage to get in a cute quip reeks of desperation and attention whoring. I did not find it endearing nor funny.
Best parts of the show was Matthew Broderick (who seems like a really nice, fun guy) and Michelle. I also liked how Joy presented herself too.
For the most part though, I found the show to still have an awkward vibe. I see I haven’t missed anything, nor has anything really changed.
I’ll be watching Joy tonite on LK.
June 18th, 2008 at 12:29 pm
I had wanted to see this show, and I got to. I’m glad that i did.
I very much enjoyed it.
I thought Michelle did a great job as guest host. I found her interesting, poised and down to earth.
She seemed very at ease, and comfortable with the other lady’s.
# 22 Mibi,
I agree, I don’t think whoopi’s comment was meant to sound as it may have. I think she meant it as a compliment to Michelle, and I don’t believe that she meant to imply anything negative about lighter skinned Black people.
As to Taylor’s feeding schedule, I might have done the same thing. Prepare it I mean, if i was going to be gone from my baby for a week. Most especially if I had allergies, and didn’t know if my baby may have inherited them. From what I understood Taylor is just now beginning to eat foods.
As well, it would make me feel better about having to leave him.
As to the timing of bringing it up, I too felt it was an awkward time. But I don’t believe it was done on her own, ..as in without direction.
all in all I really enjoyed the show.
June 18th, 2008 at 12:30 pm
Regarding EH, like many of us she does the best she can as a parent..personal opinions on her parenting (based on her volunteering stories) are just that, personal. Perhaps if she didn’t have to break into the “get to know Michelle” segment with her chart, many might not be so upset.
As for tuning into Faux News, with global warming I am ensured that Hell hasn’t frozen over and I will stick with Jon Stewart showing me daily why I won’t tune in anytime soon. Perhaps our Creator could get EH a job there too?
June 18th, 2008 at 12:30 pm
I DITTO Kelly!! Well put .. I was hoping to have some real discussions or hear Michelle’s views on any hot topics as well. I was disapointed in the lack of hot topics and the useless rhetoric again interjected by EH. As far as EH goes, I dont think anyone is calling her a bad mother.. a mother… maybe.. hehehee
I’m just saying…..
June 18th, 2008 at 12:38 pm
What’s with the Whoopi uproar…she wasn’t criticizing black women, she was criticizing the media’s portrayal of black women, complaining that the only one’s that ever seem to appear on networks are not representative of how black women are in reality. Which was a very astute point.
June 18th, 2008 at 12:44 pm
I really enjoyed MO on the show today, especially her story about her daughter. Joy was beaming next to her.
I think it was a good thing that Whoopi showed the clip of MO’s speech saying “really proud.” I was taken aback by BW’s snippy response of “I read that that way.”
I wish MO had said “empathic” instead of “empathetic” b/c I also heard it as “and pathetic.” But, it was funny
June 18th, 2008 at 12:54 pm
Michele seemed to hit it off with all the ladies, but I thought she and Joy had the best vibe. It was the same way when Obama was on, he seemed to really like Joy too.
“I also heard it as “and pathetic.” ”
I heard it that way too.
“WTF kinds of shows does she watch anyway? ”
LOL!
“#13 Rain– You totally hit the nail on the head!”
Thanks, that’s my grandmothers favorite saying…LOL!
“As Whoopi would say, she stepped in some deep dog doo doo with those comments.”
LOL! Yes, they’re talking about it now on my local station.
June 18th, 2008 at 1:08 pm
I thought Michelle did great on the show. She came across as someone you could relate to, fill at ease with and just respect for how well put together she is.
I think the Whoopi comment was unnecessary and counterproductive. This is just my opinion, but if she has a problem with the images of black people on TV…she might want to start with Sherri. Small steps even, like getting Sherri some history books and telling her she looks foolish on the food segments and that bugged eyed stupid look expression she does isn’t really that funny.
I thought I heard Whoopi call attention to the food chart thing, not EH just randomly interrupt. I could be wrong but that’s what I remember.
You know what’s funny, when I was just thinking of how everyone did on the show…Michelle was BY FAR the most natural and put together person on the panel.
If I was given that clip to view and select who I would like to see again on a daily show to get their views and perspectives on things, I’d choose her.
June 18th, 2008 at 1:12 pm
Manny,
I just wanted to say hi, and welcome to you
June 18th, 2008 at 1:18 pm
I may not like EH or agree with her politically but I’ve had lists for my husband on caring for/feeding our daughter when I had to be away. My mother was dying so I was away for a few days and made some lists. Also sometimes I had to be away for a full day (early a.m to late p.m) and I had some notes written for him. I new her routine better because I was with her more(he has an intense work schedule) so I was wanting to be helpful and he appreciated that.
Taylor is still really young maybe Tim wanted EH to make the list just as much as she felt she needed to make the list.
June 18th, 2008 at 1:20 pm
“I wanted some Meat & Potato Politics, not Sweet Potato & Chicken Dinner for Taylor”
LOL!! Kelly, your words are on point!
June 18th, 2008 at 1:24 pm
@Kelly - I agree with some of what you sai. I’m not a ‘fan’ of EH. I just get tired of reading all the BS comments concerning her.
Back to today’s episode. I thought Michelle Obama was GREAT. I was really looking forward to today ever since they announced she would be on. She’s so down to earth!
@Erika - I was also shocked by BW’s response.
I wish today was a full day of hot topics…I felt they should have asked MO more questions. All in all I enjoyed the show.
June 18th, 2008 at 1:31 pm
Cheers Ladies- Michelle Rocked Today!
June 18th, 2008 at 1:33 pm
I loved the interveiw. Michelle is beautiful and graceful and will be an excellent first lady SHe didn’t need any tought questions
June 18th, 2008 at 1:40 pm
Great show! I think most of the ladies did a great job! I was a little disappointed with Whoppi… That seems to be happening a lot. However, I do think that EH did a fantastic job today co-hosting wtih MO. I think it shows EH true character that she can be polite and corgual with someone that she disagrees with. I wish more of us could do that! No one ever said we all have to agree on everything! Good episode!
June 18th, 2008 at 1:56 pm
# 31,
pretty good
June 18th, 2008 at 2:45 pm
First of all, EH is a professional woman who makes lists to ensure things are done in the right manner. Why would she treat her #1 priority in life any differently? I did the same when I needed childcare and wanted to ensure a safe and happy experience for both my child and provider. Whoopi opened up the line of questioning and the shows writers clearly wanted them to engage here. Give EH a break.
Does WG think shes a Valley Girl. Knock off the act, at your age its nauseating.
Joy contributed nothing as did Sherry. Can Joy only extend a view if its written for her?
As for the content, I would imagine that Michelle had strict guidelines in terms of what could or couldnt be asked. I’m sure she controled the content. As for the the 1st lady acting 20ish with the handshake punches…she’s no Jackie Kennedy (or Laura Bush). Not quite the US respresentative I’m looking for. She did come across warm though.
June 18th, 2008 at 3:05 pm
To Sandy (Line 44)…Thank you! I feel so welcomed here. I had been wondering if there were other ‘View’ers such as me that love this show even through its flaws (and hanging on by a thread at times) as it makes for interesting conversation and I FOUND IT HERE!
This is great…I get made fun of (in a friendly way) at work with my View mugs on display and hear ‘oh I cant stand that show’ or ‘what a sqwak fest’….and here we can all discuss whether we wear our love for this show on our sleeve or watch it in the dark under a blanket.
Having said that Donna J: I could not agree with you more on the Whoopi ‘Valley Girl’ voice…it makes me cringe. I think Sherri is funny during the food segments but I think it was when Tony Danza and his son were on trying to talk about their cookbook…she and Whoopi really were not paying attention and were inhaling the food instead and you could not hear above the audience laughing. Having said that…the lasanga looked amazing and I may just have done the same!
Peace out!
June 18th, 2008 at 3:20 pm
The fists bumps were all in good fun. Not everyone behaves like a stuffed suit. Joy did a good job and she’s a natural. Sherri’s just Sherri. I would imagine that Michelle’s guidelines (if any) weren’t anymore strict than Cindy McCain’s.
Michele was very forthcoming IMO. By the way a few weeks ago President Bush chest bumped a guy, I thought it was funny.
I don’t think Michele is trying to be Laura or Jackie, she’s her own woman. The majority on this blog like what they saw today and so did I. She has much grace and class and she really did an excellent job! We need a fist bump smiley LOL!
June 18th, 2008 at 3:37 pm
PRIOR POST: I think it shows EH true character that she can be polite and corgual with someone that she disagrees with.
RESPONSE 1: I’ll wait to see what she says on Hannity and Whatever before judging her act today
RESPONSE 2: Are you talking about her true character as shown when she yelled at Rosie “Defend your own insinuations” when the issue was what EH believed about her very good friend (or so Rosie thought), not what others thought Rosie said.
RESPONSE 3: Are you referring to her character when she pouts when she doesn’t get all the air time she wants?
RESPOSNE 4: Are you talking about her true character when she called Joy a liar (when under the circumstances, if Joy had been wrong in what she said she was most likely mistaken or misinformed, but in fact, Joy had her facts correct.)
June 18th, 2008 at 3:44 pm
F><B
June 18th, 2008 at 3:48 pm
I echo echo RainLilllie - Michelle is an original and would make a lovely, smart, sharp, warm, first lady. She is a woman of the times. And I will never stop taking swipes at America’s favorite punching bag EH - that is my constitutional right and I will exercise it until she leaves The View and all other basic television programming (I don’t have cable - so I hope you all post tomorrow on Joy’s/EH’s interviews)! F><B
June 18th, 2008 at 3:52 pm
I enjoyed the segment today very much, however Whoopi has no class. Her comment about blacks with gold teeth - could not have been worse. She needs to go back to L.A. and live her small little life. She does not belong on an intelligent talk show. She dresses like a slob and says the most inappropriate comments ever!!! Do we only care about the numbers and reviews. I dont know whose worse Rosie or her. They’re awful. I dont think I will ever watch. What are you producers and head honchos thinking putting someone like her on your show???
June 18th, 2008 at 4:00 pm
Amen Lajet!
June 18th, 2008 at 4:13 pm
This is the most posts I have saw on here ever before! (Does anyone know what the top posted show since this site has been up is)
My take:
1. Stop picking on Elizabeth. I don’t agree with her politics either. But she has the right to speak and believe anyway she wants. She talks more because she is the only one on the show representing her point of view.
2. Whoopi: I forgave her when she made the Nancy Pelosi comment “and if you weren’t in office I would do you too” because she’s a comedian and Barbara opened that joke right up for her. But this today I can’t forgive. The valley girl act to me is a direct swipe at Elizabeth. I’m getting really tired of her also acting bored or getting the sour-puss face when she doesn’t agree when someone is talking. I agreed with her race comment because I do think minorities are painted a certain way on the news to reinforce certain stereotypes. But the true dark black, or the light black came out in left field for me. I think she really suffers with the likability factor. ( I saw a poll online, and of all the cohosts she ranked last)

Stop telling us who we can or can’t “pick on”. Just like you are entitled to your views and feel she has the right to speak and believe any way she wants, so do we.
June 18th, 2008 at 4:21 pm
Stacee you are right. But then are you any better than the people calling Rosie a fat dyke? The problem is is works both ways. Attack Elizabeth’s ideas, not personal attacks against her children. I though we live in a civilized society where child attacks were considered out of line.

“Stop picking on Elizabeth.”
She’s on the show therefore she’s fair game. I don’t agree with all of the comments about her, but just like you said:
“she has the right to speak and believe anyway she wants.”
That also applies to the people posting on this site. If you believe the criticism is wrong, just tell people why you thinks it’s wrong. Please stop with the whining about her being picked on.
June 18th, 2008 at 4:26 pm
Andrew,
Stacee hasn’t made any attacks concerning her children.
“calling Rosie a fat dyke? ”
Were you just looking for an excuse to post that..It was VERY unnecessary.

Re: the comment that Michelle isn’t quite the First Lady you are looking for and that she is no Jackie Kennedy or Laura Bush.
I say good…she’s her own person and she is exactly what I’d be looking for in a First Lady by all I’ve seen so far. She’s smart, family-oriented, likeable, and well-spoken. I am curious what you are basing your opinion on that she isn’t quite the First Lady material you are looking for? A fist bump? Help us all if that is the criteria people are basing things on in this election.
What traits does she not have that you are looking for?
June 18th, 2008 at 4:36 pm
I get tired of seeing Joy and Sherri slammed too, but everyone has a right to express their own opinion, just don’t dictate to others.
I am always suspicious when people say “I don’t like her either but”….Operation Chaos at work, e.g. Rosie a fat dyke.

Who attacked her children?
June 18th, 2008 at 4:37 pm
PRIOR POST: 1. Stop picking on Elizabeth. I don’t agree with her politics either. But she has the right to speak and believe anyway she wants. She talks more because she is the only one on the show representing her point of view.
RESPONSE: Why is it the the EH supporters keep accusing others of “attacking EH for her views” when the message has CONSISTENTLY been that we really don’t know what she believes because it seems what she believes is the conservative talking points, even if it means contradicting her previous positions, changing the subject or setting up a false straw man.
Please elaborate on what it is you think EH believes that we are picking on her for.
As RAinlillie said - tell us why you think the criticism is wrong, not why we shouldn’t criticize her without any supporting data (sort of like EH)

When I think of black women on TV with bad teeth…..hmmmm…..only one name comes to mind……WHOOPI!
Sorry, I just couldn’t take the irony of her statement.

#69-LOL!
Also, did anyone else notice Matthew kinda snub EH. He looked like he waved at her from a distance and then realized that he had to shake her hand. He showed a warmer welcome to the other ladies. It seems not to many guest greet her the same way they do the other co-hosts.
Just my observation.

From an older person’s view,, I do not agree at all, that Michelle was “acting 20ish with the handshake punches”. (bumps).
I thought it was all in good fun too. (as rainlille said). As well I think it was very fitting, since the hosts’ discussed this last week.
# 53 Manny,
You’re welcome. I have watched The View since it came on 11 years ago,..on & off, when I could.
I’ve always enjoyed it, and still do. Although I only get to watch now about 2 days a week.
I have to agree that I too think it is hanging on now by a thread.
I really enjoy this site, and the community of posters. At times there is very interesting conversation, and points of “view”.

I agree Elisabeth doesn’t express herself that well–often interrupts the other hosts, frequently sounds shrill–at least partially because she is the youngest and only conservative voice on the panel, so I think she feels a little outnumbered, which is understandable.
But there are definitely some who seem to attack her parenting skills (i.e. read past opinions here that she didn’t toilet train Grace on a timely basis, that she ignores her children to work out or watch reality shows, that she came back from maternity leave too fast). My impression of her as a mother is that she is trying to do the best she can—like we all do as mothers. None of us are perfect, but I certainly think she loves her children and wants to do her best for them. Unless someone who is posting actually knows Grace and Taylor and knows they are neglected or mistreated, I don’t think it is fair to criticize her parenting; however, her political views are fair game.

I just read through this entire thread again and laughed MAO – I REALLY enjoyed every comment, down to the last drop. I hope this was not an anomaly and we get to read about the ‘interviews’ tomorrow.
Regarding EH, I would like to point out that that feeding schedule was not the POINT of my disgust, it was her (or Whoopi’s) introducing it during Michelle’s Q&A that dumbfounded me. What were any of them thinking? It had no place on the show. How is an Excel spreadsheet of Taylor’s feeding schedule conducive to the Obama introduction? Hey, I’m a mom, we all know about spreadsheets and schedules and taking care of our precious little angels with everything we’ve got – but I don’t take my son’s daily routine into my important board meetings and interrupt the president and say, “Hey! Look what I did. Yeah baby, and I did it all by myself!” EH drains the energy out of the show by demanding so much attention, forcing others to tiptoe around her emotions, always preparing her next argument and never really taking it in and living in the moment. She is too young, too naïve, and she is undeniably rude to some of the world’s most talented and accomplished human beings.
That said, Lee, I agree that children are always off limit but personal attacks are open to interpretation…if it’s funny, I have to type it. (For the record, this is my first visit to this site)…Fist><Bump

If one of the hosts bring up something about their parenting on the show, I will remark and express my opinion on it.
June 18th, 2008 at 10:03 pm
I second that Stacee. As far as I know, this is still a free country.
IMO when they talk about their ‘parenting’ then it is up for discussion. We can express our opinions on what they say on their ‘parenting’. All I know about any of the ladies’ ‘parenting’ is what they talk about.

I agree that MO was fantastic on The View. I got a very comforting feeling from her calm and poised manner (exactly what we need in a First Lady!) and felt that if EH had been dumb enough to attack MO in any way (with her Rev. Wright!!! 20 years!!! ravings, for example), MO would have remained unruffled and put a stop to it intelligently and without batting an eye.
(I forced myself to watch EH on H&C and she did not disappoint - what a smug and phony piece of work.)
