The View June 6th Recap: Sarah Jessica Parker and Jeffrey Dean Morgan

by

sarah-jessica-parker.jpg Today on The View it was all five ladies again. They came out to the Sex and the City theme song. Whoopi Goldberg said that she has never seen the show because it is hard to watch a bunch of ladies walk down the street that she will never look like. Sherri Shepherd never watched the show, but loved the movie. Sherri said that in the one scene when they were helping Sarah move, they kept changing into different outfits. Barbara warned her not to reveal too much about the movie. Sherri said that it has been out awhile. Joy said that it isn’t exactly a mystery. Whoopi said that fashion on the show is great. Elisabeth said that the show changed how people dressed and what people had to drink at the bar. Joy said that she doesn’t want to watch people have sex in movies.

Barbara said that Kim Cattrall’s character had sex like a man, that is whenever she wanted. Barbara said that some critics said that was a bad role model. Whoopi said that if you a woman who is free, you should have the sex that you want. Elisabeth said that how many women become emotionally attached in a sexual relationship. Barbara said that men don’t get attached. Whoopi said that women can have sex without emotional attachment. Barbara asked if her if she was speaking about herself. Whoopi said that when she was single she would have sex without a relationship. Elisabeth said that she doesn’t want to lose that it is a union of two people. Whoopi said that she doesn’t have to lose that because she is married. Sherri said that she is horny all the time, but she won’t give it up to just anyone because it is special.

Barbara said she wanted to tell a story. Whoopi joked, “Is it not in the book?” Barbara said it is in the book and she has told it before on the show. It was the story about her grandma who on the death bed who said she was a virgin because she never participated in sex with her husband.

There is a survey that revealed the reasons that women don’t want to have sex: She feels fat, she has her period, she has a yeast infection, she is sweaty or unclean, she is wearing Grandma underwear, she is waiting for her wedding day, she is grossed out by man’s lack of hygiene, parents are too close for comfort.

The Space Station now has a fixed toilet. Whoopi wondered where the plumber they sent up was from. Elisabeth joked “Mission Uranus is complete.” No one laughed.

George Clooney broke up with his girlfriend. Whoopi wonders why she is devastated because he should have known that he will never get married. Barbara showed two clips of interviews she did with George about not getting married. Joy said that George gets better looking as he gets older. Barbara said that women always think that they will be the one to change him. Sherri said that there are couples where the woman sticks around and he does marry her eventually. Barbara said that Warren Beatty was a big playboy, but finally settled down. Joy said that women are concerned about their biological clock. Elisabeth said that maybe she didn’t want to get married at first, but changed her mind. Whoopi said that Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn and Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins who have been together so long, but are not married, are doing it right. Elisabeth asked if everyone else was doing it wrong? Joy said that the key is to hook the man within the first two years when he is hot and bothered.

Whoopi then announced another book signing that Barbara will be doing this weekend in Long Island (using an Long Island accent). Barbara asked her if she would move in with her, but they didn’t have to get married. Whoopi said that they could talk about it during the break. (I didn’t quite understand the joke).

Sarah Jessica Parker appeared on the show to promote the Sex and the City movie. She didn’t have a specific number in her head for how the movie would do, but she had an instinct that the timing was right. She said that there aren’t any movies with four women over 40 to compare it to. Sarah said that we have put a spotlight on the fact that women want to go to a movie where they relate emotionally to the characters. She said that 40% of the audience had not been to the movies in the prior two months.

Sherri showed off some magazine covers that Sarah is on. As producer, Sarah had to stay up nights making lists of what needed to be done to make the movie. There were a lot of details to get the right crew, marketing, and production team. That was much harder than getting all four women to commit to the film. There was a scene where her character goes through a bleak period in which she did not wear any make-up. Sarah did not even think it would be an issue to not be in make-up given the despair that the character is going through and there is no vanity that is attached to that; she would not be concerned about what she looked like.

Sarah had 81 costume changes for the film, although some were cut out. She became attached to one belt, which she nicknamed “Roger” and wore in many different scenes. It came from a thrift store.

Sarah was reluctant to say yes to the series, because she was afraid of losing the freedom she had to do Broadway and a movie or so a year. She has not discussed doing a sequel to the film with the director Michael Patrick King, but the studio is interested it. She wrote the forward for the Sex and the City book, which includes plot points and costumes that were not in the movie.

Dr. Gadget returned for a segment called “Dads & Grads Gadgets.” Here is what he talked about:

  • Amazing Dad DVD
  • Neat Receipts: scans paper products up to 22 inches and puts them on your computer
  • Photo Frame Speakers
  • Philips Norelco Arcitec
  • Lasershield: Home security system that covers up to 1200 square feet, great for a dorm or apartment
  • Palm Centro Smartphone

  • Then one of the phones rang and Dr. Gadget said it was Bill Geddie who said that everyone in the audience gets to take all the items home. Lame and cheesy, considering Dr. Gadget always gives away all the items.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan appeared on the show to promote the film The Accidental Husband. They showed a clip from when he was “Denny” on Grey’s Anatomy. His character died and he had to lay there for five minutes and pretend to be dead. The director kept stopping because he could see his carotid artery moving. He found at the table read that his character was going to die. He was going to do a television show, but it didn’t happen.

He has a scar from when he first moved to LA. He got in the middle of a woman who was getting beaten up by her boyfriend. The woman cocked him in the head with a bottle.

The film co-stars Uma Thurman who is a love doctor who discovers that she is technically married to him as the result of a prank only when she goes to get her marriage license. She has to convince him to get an annulment.

He spent out some time with firefighters and their traveling soccer team because his character does both things. He ripped his hamstring on the first day of filming play soccer.

    1. Sandy Says:

      thanks Winnie,
Didn’t see the show, but will make a few comments.

I have never watched Sex In the City either. (As Whoopi) I’m not really a big TV watching person. I doubt that I will see the movie either.

I must say that I agree more with Elisabeth & Sherri (going by the recap) concerning sex. I think sex is, and should be, something shared between 2 people who are “very meaningful” to the other. IMO.

I think George Clooney is a handsome man, but he isn’t someone I’d want to have a relationship with.
I have always been very fond of Kurt Russell, ever since he was a little boy. I remember him in the “Travels Of Jamie McPheeters”. As a young girl then, I had a crush on him. (that was a long time ago). :)

Some of the gadgets sound pretty neat.

    2. Eddie Says:

How many times has Barbara told that story about her Grandmother being a virgin? I’ve counted 75 times. Any one care to dispute that? Has it been 80? Sometimes the show get preempted.

    3. Paula Says:

How did Joy get the huge bruise? I missed a couple of days shows…Did she say on another show? She showed Jeffrey Dean Morgan her arm and it looked bad..and she said, “you should see me ass”.

    4. Andrew Says:

Whoopi’s attitude about Sex in the City seemed a little rude to me. If she have never watched it and “it wasn’t her thing” then why did she have to pronounce that the day Sarah Jessica Parker was on.

BTW, I was thinking 1 year ago we were just out of the Rosie- Elizabeth feud. How do you think the show has measured up since then?

    5. Dana Says:

The show is nothing but sex and fluff. booooring

    6. Brooke Furcht Says:

I don’t know who is the bigger idiot, Sheri or Elizabeth? Shame on you for giving a public forum to two people who are so biased.

    7. Erika Says:

” Shame on you…” Does the “you” refer to Winnie? I noticed another “you” in the first comment on today’s recap too.

Winnie, you’re getting a lot of blame today! Lol. I’m sure you’re used to it, but it’s kind of funny :) The View should be paying you!

    8. Tina Says:

“Shame on you for giving a public forum to two people who are so biased.”

No, you should be ashamed for posting that comment because no one is forcing you to be here. If you don’t like the forum and the way things are done go somewhere else. Bye!

    9. Linda Says:

It looks to me like Brooke meant shame on The View for giving Sherri and Elisabeth a public forum. Apparently she doesn’t realize that this blog is not sponsored by the show.

Great job Winnie… love the blog.
