The View March 11th: Tori Spelling and Kirk Franklin

by

kirk-franklin.jpgThe first topic on The View was New York Governor Elliot Spitzer who has been caught up in a prostitution scandal. His wife was by his side at the press conference where he apologized for the incident. Barbara Walters said it always seems that the morally righteous people who get caught up in these things and they are holier than thou and then they have a scandal. Elisabeth Hasselbeck saw him use his position to create laws to give him more power. She thinks he is power hungry. Her heart breaks for her three daughters because he destroyed their world. Joy Behar said, “Aren’t you just sick of men and their sexual proclivities?” She said that Viagra is ruining the government. Elisabeth said it was a female hooker, so a woman was involved in this too. Sherri pointed out that his wife wouldn’t even look at the camera. Barbara said we don’t know why the wives always stand next to husband. Whoopi said that by standing there it is the easiest way to get the press of her and her children.

Barbara said that we don’t know their marriage or their sexual relationship. She pointed out that he didn’t have a mistress, so he was not attached emotionally and he tried to be anonymous. She asked if his wife should stay with him. Barbara said that Hillary Clinton would not be a Presidential candidate had she left her husband. Joy and Whoopi said they didn’t think that was true and Joy pointed out that is what Chris Matthews said and it isn’t fair at all to say that.

Joy said that she would love to see a scandal where the woman is getting great sex. What would happen if it was a female governor? Elisabeth said that she would be “just as furious,” Joy said the woman would be burned at the stake, and Sherri said that she would be vilified. Elisabeth wants to know if he is sorry or sorry that he got caught. Sherri said that he was sorry he got caught. Elisabeth finds the apology to be useless. Joy said that the hooker makes $1000/hr and that is why people don’t want to work at McDonald’s. Barbara thinks it is a tragedy all around. Elisabeth said it is a “disgusting, wrong thing” and feels bad for the daughters.

Whoopi said prostitution is not going away, has been around forever, and they should find a way to legalize it. She said after Adam and Eve, then there were two other ladies, and the fifth lady was charging. If it is legalized, the women could be in a union and be taken care of it. That way they could be safe. Barbara said that even if it was legal, it would not have changed the fact that Spitzer hurt his family, etc.

David Patterson, the Lt. Governor who will take over if Spitzer resigns, is African-American and blind. Sherri joked that his wife doesn’t need to worry because “he can’t see to cheat.” I heard Whoopi say “Sherri” softly as Joy started talking about Larry Craig. Sherri looked over, Whoopi said something to her with her hand blocking her mouth, and then Sherri put her head down. Trying not to laugh, maybe?

An Iowa Congressman said a lot of ignorant things about Barack Obama, which I will not repeat. Barbara said that what he said is “stupid” and “disgusting.” Joy said that the dirty tricks stick, so people will believe it. (All the more reason for me to refrain from recapping when they discuss such things on here from now on, I think).

Hillary Clinton hinted that Barack Obama could be her running mate. Barack responded by saying that it was strange that the person in second place is offering the role of VP to the person in first place. He added that if he is not, in her eyes, ready to be President, how can he be VP? Sherri said it went back to what Whoopi said about wanted to know who the running mate will be. Whoopi wondered if they are watching her. She thinks Barack shouldn’t have responded to her and should have just chuckled and waited.

Joy is afraid that the democrats will strike each other out and we will be stuck with another Republican president. She said that the planet cannot afford another eight years with a Republican. Elisabeth disagreed, saying that John McCain is a friendly Republican to Democrats as you can get. Joy said that he has been attached at the hip to Bush lately and doesn’t trust it. Elisabeth said that they had one day together and shook hands.

Five soldiers died in Iraq and that is a minor story in the press compared to the other things that are going on. Whoopi said that they need a commander in chief with a plan. Joy said that they need a commander in chief with a brain.

When they returned from commercial, Barbara said that the thing that annoyed Elisabeth the most was that the prostitute that was with Eliot Spitzer was 5′5″ and weight 105 pounds. Elisabeth said, “That would piss any wife off, okay?” Whoopi said, “I believe they call those spinners.” There was a long awkward pause and then Barbara said, “what?” and Whoopi said, “Huh?,” then said, “Don’t worry about it.”

Tori Spelling is on the show today to promote her new book. She had a wealthy parent, Aaron Spelling, who died and gave her $800,000, which was just a tiny fraction of his estate. Sherri joked that he dad said he would leave her his old Pontiac. Joy’s mom told her there was $50 under the mattress and $100 in a credenza. Should the parent be obligated to give money to the children? Parents sometimes don’t give a lot of money to their children because it could ruin them. Joy said that they should give money to the children while the parent is alive so that you can see them spend it and enjoy it.

Sherri is in Good Housekeeping magazine. She said that she loved the waist they give her; she looks like one of the hookers.

Tori Spelling appeared on the show to promote her book sTori Telling. She is pregnant with her second child. She is due in the early summer and feels good. She said that it is harder this time, though, because she has a one year old. She was pregnant when she guest-hosted on The View, in November, but hadn’t revealed it yet.

While growing up she lived in a huge mansion and had lavish parties. Her life was “pretty surreal” growing up, but thought that it was normal. One Christmas, her dad her brought in snow. She doesn’t think all of that has had an effect on her as an adult. She inherited a great work ethic from her father. She thinks that even if she could afford to give her children a childhood like she had, she probably would not. She would rather that they have a more normal childhood.

Tori said that people have spent so much of her life telling stories about her that she thought it was time to tell the real story. The biggest misconception about her is that she is a filthy rich girl now. She works really hard for her money.

She said that she loved the script for Beverly Hills 90210 and really wanted to be an actress. She was worried the others would resent her because she was the producer’s daughter. She got to the set an hour early and always knew everyone’s lines, and proved herself to the others. She said that once she started earning money on the show, her parents stopped giving her money and it really wasn’t discussed. Elisabeth asked her if she thought about quiting work at that point.

Tori’s relationship with her mother today is “fine.” She is a great grandmother and that is really all Tori can ask for at this point. She said that now with the book, the truth is out there and people can’t talk about her anymore. She is no longer running the Inn and has moved back to LA. Joy said that was a mistake and that she needs to live away from that environment.

Gospel singer Kirk Franklin appeared on the show and performed the song “Declaration” from his album Fight of My Life. His background singers were very good, but I thought it odd that he didn’t sing more than four notes and spent the entire song talking to the audience. Sherri clarified that with him in the interview part. He said that he can’t sing. He just tries to make people forget what they are going through and make them feel good by speaking positively.

In the closing segment, Barbara said that she didn’t realize that Kirk Franklin wasn’t singing. (?) Joy said that Barbara could have a music career that way. Barbara said that they should all sing the closing for the show. She counted off and then no one sang. They all laughed and then “sang” “Take a little time to enjoy The View.”

re Musical Act getting the audience to clap along in time:

okay white people really shouldn’t try to clap along

(before you crucify me, read my comments from yesterday, I’m a white woman that attends a predominantly black church, and I say this comment often, I’m not being mean, I’m just being playful with a stereotype -playful, silly, funny, ok?)

  2. May Says:

I’m happy that EH wasn’t able to rant and rave too much today since Babs was there and the others were sorta talking to each other. EH really had her mean look on especially when they were discussing the NY gov and his undoing actions. She just ranted and you could see the hatred she has for mistakes others make. When they mentioned that Hillary suggested having Obama for a veep (which was questionable but not too outlandish) I thought EH would have an orgas**m when reading the comment from a newspaper condemming Hillary’s suggestion. EH smiled and threw her arms in the air in a victory movement. She really hates the Clintons. Funny I feel about the same way about EH! She should depart the show and go on over to her best bud, Hannity/fox

  3. Sharon Says:

I wonder if EH ever watches the show. I wonder if EH’s parents ever try to tell her how she comes across. I think I remember Rosie saying once or twice that her parents are/were hippie’s. Does anyone else remember that? Elisabeth, sugar, if you are reading this please know that you are making a fool of yourself. You speak too loudly and pass judgement on other people’s unfortunate situations. You spew contempt and hatred. One day this will come back to haunt you and the measure of mercy you gave is the measure you will receive. You are self-righteous and refuse to consider the “other side’s” point of view. And although I too am Christian/Republican, I don’t want anyone to think my views and way of doing things are anything like yours. Live your truth quietly and peacefully. That is what Jesus did.

  4. Dana Says:

    Sharon, thank you.

  5. Real Says:

    >>Sherri looked over, Whoopi said something to her with her hand blocking her mouth, and then Sherri put her head down. Trying not to laugh, maybe?<<

Sherri looked down too because the audience had an audible sigh, and voiced their dissaproval over her joke, which was in very poor taste. She quickly realized it, and one could tell that she felt sorry for speaking before thinking. It happens. Patterson is super cool though, and I hope Client no. 9 vanishes soon because he’s been one of the worst governors in my state’s history. Hillary will lose a superdelegate if he should resign too.

  6. Lajet Says:

I swore I wasn’t going to watch today, which was going to be easy to accomplish since I woke with a tooth ache, called the office, and had an emergency dental appointment for 11:15 this morning! So what is on the TV in the waiting room when I arrive! Yep. And they are in the middle of the Spitzer discussion. Actually glad I saw it. I was glad EH was on the defensive, and I particularly loved when BW said something to the effect of “I don’t think we should be ______(can’t remember the word, but something like angry, or gleeful, or judgmental), I think it is very tragic” To which EH responded something like: “I agree. (and I think she said ‘I’m not ______(whatever the word was)’; I think it’s very tragic too” - in her most judgmental, angry voice.

  7. Sandy Says:

    thanks for the recap Winnie.

A lot of political discussion. I guess that’s what in the news though.
My heart goes out to Gov. Spitzer’s family.
i think that the wife stands by her husbands, for several reasons, that may vary. I think it takes and show courage and strength, and I respect them. I can well immagine their hurt and pain.
It’s a sad thing all around.

    I wanted to make a comment about something Winnie wrote in her recap;

One thing I really have a distaste for is the “dirtiness” of politics. I use to think that most people wouldn’t believe, or at least take a lot of this stuff for what it is. (crap). I’m not so sure about that any more; as i read things at different sites and blogs.
So i understand Winnie’s reasons for this.
And another thing, I do have compassion for both sides of the political isle. And I think that the nastiness goes both ways.
Actually I dread the coming months, politically).
I’ve never been a real political person. I mean in years before the 1990’s. You really have to be now, we are forced to be, with all that is going on. And I’ve found I don’t like it.

  8. annon Says:

EH has a dream job, two healthy children and a loving husband as far as I can tell. Why is she so hateful and nasty? I truly feel sorry for her when she falls and it will happen; it’s going to be very big and very hard. The people out there shouting the loudest; words will always comeback to bite them in the ass.

  9. Marilyn Says:

I’m with May and her comments. I can’t stand watching EH. She ruins the show. It was sooooooooo much better without her!

  10. Lajet Says:

I’m beginning to think there is more to the EH story than meets the eye. RO has talked about celebrity status is like a drug and does wierd things to you. I remember Elizabeth’s first stint on The View. She brought her fashion tennis shoes and was all excited and friendly. I don’t remember any heavy politics, or anger, or righteousness. And she clearly doesn’t understand all that she is saying. I’m suspecting someone (guess who) has “taken her under his/her wing” and coached/mentored her - and she didn’t have a clue what would happen (nor would most of us - I know I wouldn’t have.) From descriptions I’ve heard, she seems to be personable and a good friend, and wants to get along. And yet….that isn’t what has happened on screen. I’m guessing someone is coaching/mentoring/manipulating her, someone much older who has experience in the entertainment business, and she is too young to recognize the pitfalls and costs. I actually feel kind of sorry of her (sometimes). I suspect in 10 or 20 years she’s going to look back and what she has said and be unhappy. Many (most?) of us have been there/done that - in the presence of our fmaily and friends - not on a public stage, encouraged to give a platform on a daily basis.

  11. marilyn Says:

    Winnie-

I appreciate your hard work and wonderful job you do with this web site.

I thought you might want to hear my reaction to your “”censorship” of a small portion of today’s view. I see no reason to refrain from recapping whatever goes out over the air, at the view. To me, it feels like you are making the decision for us, as to what we hear or not hear. I guess my point is…. that we are suppose to be reading a RECAP and as much as your point is well taken, as to why you left out the Iowa Congressman’s words, arn’t we intitled to hear and make our own judgements ?
Perhaps you fear the “comments” would stir up the “crazy people” and I understand that. But, it was part of today’s show.

  12. marilyn Says:

    To # 9 Marilyn-

There are now 2 marilyn’s on the blog. To the “other Marilyn”, I will identify myself with no capital letters in my name. I am also the “old one ” :-)

    # 11 marilyn

  13. Lajet Says:

Winnie - I support your stance on not repeating stuff that doesn’t deserve repeating. You’re not being paid for this and have no obligation to us. We can decide if we want to take advantage of your generosity with your time and whatever it is that your gifts have to offer us (which are substantial!). If someone wants to know what was said, they can tape it for themselves. I think it is laudable that you inform us what is missing so that those who care can adjust. Thank you for your efforts and an honorable website.

  14. Sharon Says:

Dana, thank you for saying “thank you.”

  15. mibi Says:

sharon comment tell me what i aready know. some republicans like some democrats are rational and intelgent people who can think and express views beyond th eparty line even when agreeign with there party. and of course some democrats and some republicans are limited and closed minded.

jen poeple have on this blog critized babs, whoppi and sherri and even joy but perhaps you notice the critism of elizabeth more be cause you identify with her. also want to bring up that poeple who critize her are not trying to get rid of the repblican view but maybe get a republican with more depth of argument and less anger.

  16. Dee Says:

I wonder how BW felt about the dirty trick that Bits pulled by repeating Faux’s Obama inquiry? She seems to have a tight rein on Bits when she is on and there is a lot of silencing if the chippy bird begins her blithering. I don’t remember BW ever treating any of the staff this way previously. Perhaps Bits fatigue is setting in for BW???

I don’t know how Bits kept her job after the lap episode in August of 2006, but she certainly hasn’t improved. Sherri has blown her out of the water with her progress.

  17. NickP Says:

Did anybody notice that Ms Spelling dress was a little short and she was having a hard time not showing her undergarments?

  18. May Says:

Marilyn, Thanx for the agreement note re EH. Sometimes I have to stop myself from getting too riled up over that bleached blond (there I go again). I don’t want to sound like an old grouch but I do often feel grouchy after listening to EH grimace when mentioning democrats and shouting with glee at their misfortunes. Many times I just shut off the tv and go on with my chores out in the clean air (well sometimes it’s clean)just to calm down. I do love Joy and her wit…she comes up with funny remarks at the drop of a hat. Sherri is getting better too. She’ll be better as time goes on. I do like Whoopi too..her expressions are priceless IMO

  19. Tina Says:

Has anyone else noticed how defensive EH is whenever there’s any discussion about infidelity? Not only with this latest issue with the NY Gov but any time when there’s a discussion about cheating husbands. If you haven’t, just watch her response. Could it be possible that little Ms. Goody 2 shoes perfect husband Tim may have been, uh hmm…well, you all do know he is a professional atheleteI’ve just always picked up a funny vibe from EH whenever this topic is mentioned. Hey I could be wrong……I’m just saying…

  20. Stacee Says:

No, you’re not the only one, Tina. She goes bat CRAZY over the subject of infidelity comes up.
My guess is her dad cheated on her mom.

I hope Tim does not ever cheat on her. I think EH would lose her eff-ing mind!

  21. louiseinalabama Says:

No, I think you’re wrong. It goes against her religious beliefs. Elisabeth believes adultry is WRONG because it breaks one of the first covenants established in the bible. I love her because she’s not afraid to say how she feels.

  22. Stacee Says:

    No, I think you’re wrong.
It may very well go against her religious beliefs, however her REACTION is over the top.

Adultery is personal. If my neighbor cheated on his wife, I’d say that’s terrible and go on about my business. That is for them to work out. But the way she reacts is atypical. She goes absolutely NUTS.

I still suspect her dad cheated on her mom.

  23. Dee Says:

Bits only has a visceral reaction when it is a democrat…notice the whitewash of McCain. The Bible doesn’t apply to Republicans?

  24. louiseinalabama Says:

I can’t believe whenever someone speaks out against something as awful as adultry, they’re looked at as being over critical or people like you and Tina think there’s an underlying problem. We are getting away from the sacred institution of marriage and adultery is totally immoral and there are still some people that truly believes in that.

  25. Stacee Says:

I can’t believe people like you choose to misunderstand a point.

Adultery is wrong. HER REACTION is over the top.
SHERRI, who’s husband has cheated, doesn’t even have the same type of off the wall reaction that EH does. The girl was darn near in tears when she was ranting and raving.

Dee, she did come unhinged when the story of McCain possibly cheating with Cindy look-a-like came to light. Course she attacked the Times. “Her man” is innocent. I can’t wait till they bring up the subject of McCain cheating on his first wife. Or rather *if* they do so. I’d love to hear her response.

  26. louiseinalabama Says:

What a terrible thing to say about her father cheating on her mother! It’s difficult for me to understand how anyone could come to that conclusion without even knowing those people.

  27. Stacee Says:

What? Why is that so terrible?

So you can make judgements about EH based on what you see and hear her say but noone else can?
YOU can come to conclusions without even knowing these people but others can’t?

  28. rainlillie Says:

    I’m with you Stacee,
We all can agree that adultery is wrong. No one here is defending it. The problem is the lack of compassion TLB has shown towards people who have made mistakes.

A few weeks ago she flippantly said that Bush made mistakes when it comes to the war, surely if she can forgive someone who has made a huge mistake that has impacted millions of lives, she can… although it’s not her place, forgive a man for being unfaithful to his wife.
This family is broken and TLB isn’t doing anyone favors by sitting on her highhorse casting stones. As human beings we are all flawed and we all have weaknesses. Lets hope if she ever makes a mistake, people will show her the compassion she has denied others.

  29. ShannonP Says:

They didn’t put the clip up on The View site of EH’s adultery reaction so I didn’t get to see it and how she was.
I did watch the Tori Spelling interview and no wonder they have such problems getting guests to come on the show. The questions they asked might have been done in this sugar sweet way, but they were catty and rude. I have never been a fan of Tori, but she handled herself very well in that interview considering the questions they were throwing at her. It’s like BW was wanting an expose on her and it was the shrinks chair.

  30. Meredith Says:

Winnie: Do you have any idea if anyone on The View reads our comments? That would sure be nice, wouldn’t it??? This fan base is overwhelmingly united that the show would be far better without EH! I wonder if anyone related to producing the show cares about that.

  31. ShannonP Says:

I thought it was kind of funny that Whoopi said “she’s a spinner” on the show too. I bet EH’s butthole really clinched at that one lol.

  32. Sandy Says:

Nice to see a comment from Rainlillie.

As one of the few people here who does like E.H..(I don’t see her as being as awful as some of the other posters).
I do have to agree that she does seem to over react when it comes to infidelity.
As to why this is, I won’t speculate.
I do feel that our views, feelings and reactions, and actions, for the most part come from life experiences. So…whatever her reasons, even if they are simply based on her religious beliefs, one can tell it is a very strong emotional opinion for her.

I’m a religious person too, ..and I don’t have any horrible words for Gov. Spitzer. My feeling is it was a horribly big mistake, and one he will undoubtably pay for in many ways.

    # 30 Meredith, Although I’m not Winnie,
I do believe that Sherri reads this blog, don’t know about any others from the view.

  33. Stacee Says:

    Thanks Rainlillie!
Good points and very well stated :D

  34. louiseinalabama Says:

Thank Goodness, Sandy, it sure is nice to know that I’m not the only one that likes Elisabeth on this site.

  35. louiseinalabama Says:

Oh Amy, I agree with you 110%. I was beginning to think I was the only one on here that could see that we should all be very grateful to have someone like Elisabeth that thankfully represents and shares our core values, morals & a great sense of integrity. She’s not afraid to say how she feels. I often shake my head in astonishment at what the world is coming to when adultery becomes common place and when someone’s disgusted by it, they’re criticized.

  36. May Says:

Amy, EH overacts to infidelity, the Clintons, Obama, right to choose, all democrats, McCain, Georgie porgie bush, Al Gore, global warming, Rosie, Iraq, religious beliefs, etc. Ta ta

  37. ShannonP Says:

How many times do people have to point out that they don’t dislike EH just because she has different views but because of the way she expresses them? It’s not that difficult of a concept to grasp. Joy and Sherri also have many different views than I do, but they don’t rub me the wrong way like EH does. EH thinks her views are THE views to have. That anyone that doesn’t share her views is wrong. She gets on her pedestal and preaches with that hand under her chin and head bobbling back and forth and I get embarassed for her.
It is true that those that put themselves up there so much higher above others fall twice as hard.

  38. Lajet Says:

Anyone wonder if the sudden influx of pro-EH posts are part of an organized effort? They remind me of EH, choosing to ignore what is said so she can make the point she wants to make. While there may be some, I don’t think most people who dislike EH on The View (as opposed to how she may be off the stage) do so because of her views. If so, more people would dislike Sherri. And I didn’t like Kathy Griffen, and she espoused ideas more in tune with mine. It’s been said numerous times, and I suspect some people just don’t want to hear, admit, acknowledge: it’s EH’s style and manner of expressions, not her ideas (or lack of substance thereof), that bother us. I don’t agree with Dan Abrams and George Will frequently, but I could listen, or talk, to them for hours. While I may come to a different conclusion after balancing all the issues, I find his opinions thoughtful and full or legitimate points to consider, deep and well-thought out.

  39. Julianne Says:

Yes, EH’s husband has cheated. I know nothing about her parents, but yes, he dipped his stick elsewhere (wouldn’t you?)

  40. Julianne Says:

Eventually, she’ll catch him, but yes, there’s a personal reason EH is concerned

  41. annon Says:

I think her husband cheated too. The world can do without the kind of core values EH has.

  42. Dee Says:

“Anyone wonder if the sudden influx of pro-EH posts are part of an organized effort?”

Yes, it is happening elsewhere too.

I do have a problem with her Coulter-lite views. She is not as blatant, nor as searing as Coulter, but just as manipulative in the way she puts her hateful bias in the air. I got cold chills when she expressed her views on torture and the deaths of innocents as unfortunate byproducts of the war. And then there is the uninsured children who should ask “where are our parents”. She shows little to no compassion for people she does not identify with and that is a majority of the world.

  43. Sandy Says:

Anyone wonder if the sudden influx of pro-EH posts are part of an organized effort?”

Umm.. if it is an organized effort, then it’s a pretty small one, IMO. 2 people? (I’m here all the time) I don’t know about anywhere else though.

I do understand what some of the others complain about, or dislike about her. It just doesn’t bother me that much.
Actually I like all 4 of the host pretty well. My favorites being Sherri & Joy.

  44. Ann Says:

What does “she’s a spinner mean”?

  45. annon Says:

“Anyone wonder if the sudden influx of pro-EH posts are part of an organized effort?”

It doesn’t matter if a few for whatever reasons fail to see how hateful, nasty and judgmental EH is. The majority here knows the truth. Actions speak louder than words. EH can say she’s a Christian or whatever. I fail to see her display any characteristics of a real Christian. She is and always will be an opportunist and a cunning backstabbing witch. Not a fan of Sherry’s but she practices what she preaches. EH should try to learn from Sherry.

  46. ShannonP Says:

Ann, a spinner is a woman that is so small and thin you can sit her on your pecker and spin her around.

  47. Dee Says:

    WOW! I didn’t know that…I am glad I didn’t ask one of my children..sheesh.

  48. Sandy Says:

    # 46 & 47
Ok, that is another I haven’t heard.
I usually have to ask my 17 year what some things, and or words mean now a days.
Like Dee I’m glad i don’t have to ask her that. She probably knows, but would have been embarrassed to tell me.

  49. ShannonP Says:

If you ever hear a slang word that you are unsure of and want to check it out, a good site to use is http://www.urbandictionary.com
