The View March 16th, 2009 Recap: Hot Topics, Meghan McCain and Jean Chatzky

by

day-of-hot-topicsToday on the March 16th, 2009, episode of The View, the four main hosts were present for another “day of hot topics.” Whoopi Goldberg just got off her bus an hour prior to the show airing. She went to see her mom in Berkley before she left California. Sherri Shepherd stayed in LA to spend time with her family and go to comedy clubs and party. Joy Behar and Elisabeth Hasselbeck came back after the show ended. They slept together on the plane. Joy told her she looks like a hot pregnant lady today, with an off-the-shoulder top. Sherri said that Bill Geddie said that it was like “pregnant girls gone wild.” Whoopi asked her if she wanted to borrow her bus.

The next topic was weight/looks/age in political discussions, like Laura Ingraham’s comments about Meghan McCain, where she made fun of her voice and called her “plus sized.” Also, Ann Coulter said that she loved going on The View because it made her feel younger and prettier. Sherri said that women have the same issues about their appearance and aren’t worried about whether they can debate someone, but it always comes down to whether they look good in the jeans. Elisabeth said it undercuts the point that anyone tries to make, because people will focus on what they look like.

Joy said that Coulter will always say things just to get attention. Whoopi said that Ann doesn’t look better than Elisabeth. Joy said that women attack other women and men don’t know what buttons to push on women the way other women do. Whoopi said that is painting all women with one brush. She wondered why attacking McCain’s weight has more pull than attacking what she said. Joy said that she wants more press. Sherri said that Ingraham cannot debate Meghan McCain on the points and had to attack her personally. Joy asked if anyone even knew who Laura Ingraham was. Sherri said that she is the girl from Little House on the Prairie. Joy was once on a conservative radio station and women would call and tell her she is ugly and it was because they hated her politics, since they did not even know what she looked like. Sherri said that she got in an argument with a woman in traffic who called her a big fat pig and that pushed her button. Joy said that she should say, “I can lose weight, but you will be ugly forever.” Joy said it is wounding for someone to say you are ugly, even if they haven’t seen you.

Jon Stewart went up against CNBC’s Jim Cramer last week on The Daily Show. Elisabeth said it was a tactical decision by Stewart to pull all the clips from the past where Cramer said the economy was fine and played them in front of him. Joy said that Stewart was also troubled by the fact that Cramer was being entertaining, rather than just informative.

Whoopi said, “What about AIG?” and the audience booed. They just announced they are giving million dollars in bonuses to top employees because they are contractual obligated to do so. Whoopi said that she understands contracts, but we cannot be bent over this way. She said that they don’t deserve all that money because AIG is in the toilet. Sherri said what about the mail room guy and secretaries at AIG who are worried about money, shouldn’t they get something? Elisabeth said it doesn’t work that way and what about the contract with the public and their inability to uphold that? Joy said that AIG said they needed to give the bonuses, in order to maintain “ the best and the brightest.” She said it was the best and the brightest that got us into this mess, so bring on the stupidest.

The White House is saying that despite the situation with the economy, it is fundamentally sound. Whoopi asked Elisabeth if they quote sounded familiar. Elisabeth said that there were plenty of advertisements attacking McCain for saying the exact thing during the election. Joy said that adding the money to the economy, it is more sound now. Elisabeth said McCain said the exact same thing. Sherri said that she thought they meant because they gave money to people to refinance their mortgages that the economy is improving. Whoopi said at least the market is going up a little bit, which she is happy about it. She think that they are trying to say that things are getting better. She said that maybe John McCain was looking into the future and she tips her dred to him.

McCain and George Stephanopoulos will be doing a twitter-interview. Joy said that it sounds risqué to say that McCain will twittering Stephanopoulos. (or vice versa. Can’t remember which she said)

Then they talked about relationships in the press, including Rihanna and Chris Brown getting back together, Jennifer Aniston and John Mayer breaking up again, and Bristol Palin and Levi Johnston also broke up. (I don’t really see how the Rihanna/Chris Brown story is in the same category as the other two, but aside from mentioning it at the beginning of the conversation, they never touched on it).

Sherri said that Bristol is a statistic now as a teen with a baby and not being married. Joy asked if the Palins will not be pro-choice now. Elisabeth said that teen pregnancy is not a joke and they are in dilemma about whether they should get married for the baby and maybe divorced later. (or something like that. It did not make sense to me). Whoopi said that they know whether they are going to be together and thank goodness that Levi realized he was not ready to get married. She also said that it is good that Bristol wants to talk to other young girls about this issue. Elisabeth said that people were attacking Bristol and the unborn child and that is why Palin had to get into the issue. Whoopi said it is because when you talk about teen pregnancy you are pointing fingers, so you have to be ready to have it pointed back at you. Joy said it is similar to when someone is against stem cell research until their family member gets Parkinson’s Disease and then they are for the research. Elisabeth asked if she means that they look at the baby and wish they would have aborted it. Joy said that if you are raped, you should be able to have an abortion. Elisabeth said that conservatives across the board have always made that exception. Both Joy and Whoopi said, “She didn’t.”

Ron Silver, an actor, passed away over the weekend. Whoopi said he was a good guy and Joy said that he was an interesting guy who changed his political affiliation. Whoopi said that he was a good friend.

SNL had another View skit (as I posted yesterday). They played part of it. Sherri was glad she was finally portrayed n there and said that Tracy Morgan did a good job playing her. Whoopi said that he looks good. Joy said at least Elisabeth had a woman playing her, the rest were all men. Whoopi said that her guy looks just like her.

Meghan McCain appeared on the show (although I don’t think she was on the original guest list. Unless I missed it). She said that the majority of the readers on her personal blog are young women and wonders what they think when Ingraham came back with “she is plus sized” when McCain just wanted to engage in a political discussion about the future of the Republican party. Meghan also writes on The Daily Beast.

Meghan does not understand why in this day and age she is attacked for her appearance, saying she goes to the gym and tries to eat healthy Sherri said that she should not have to defend herself and we have come this far and wonders why women are so focused on weight. Meghan said that she feels like when Tyra Banks said, “Kiss my fat ass.” Whoopi said that Ingraham says that she stands up for conservative women, but is not doing that in this case. Joy wants to know what it was that set her off. Meghan said that she had not heard of Ingraham before this and there is not place for weight criticism in 2009. Whoopi said that she also said that Meghan sounds like a Valley Girl, but wanted Ingraham to know what a Valley Girl really sounds like, so Whoopi did her VG impression a bit. Then she said that Meghan does not sound like a Valley Girl, she sounds like an intelligent woman.

Sherri said they got criticism on The View for their treatment of her parents. Meghan said that she loves her parents and it was clear that the interview was very different from when Barack and Michelle Obama were on, but she wants everyone to look forward. Joy pointed out that the timing of the interviews were different, with Obama being on earlier in the campaign process.

Meghan said that her dad was on Twitter before her and she thinks it is an amazing medium and encouraged them to join. Joy said that she doesn’t have enough time.

Meghan said that is critical of some aspects of Republican party, but with the right leader they can have a resurgence.

The final segment was “8 steps to financial success” with Jean Chatzky, author of The Difference. Chatzky said it is a prescription to get from financial struggle to financial success. It is about resilience and optimism that you need to get a hold of to succeed in this economy. Elisabeth asked what about people who are out of work. She said if you need a job, you have to think about what skills you have and who you can contact. You need to challenge yourself to do something different in order to change things.

The steps are:

1. Happiness
2. Resilience
3. Connectedness
4. Passion
5. Intuition
6. Habitual saving
7. Invest in stocks
8. Gratitude

Sherri said on a practical level what do you do when you have the bill collectors calling you? Chatzky said to prioritize what bills need to get paid first, call and ask bill collectors to work with you.

Whoopi asked about the effect on children. Chatzky said that the problem is that parents aren’t talking to their kids about money, but are yelling at one another about it. She said that kids will be better off if they know what is going on.

She said that you need to exercise a few times a week. Joy said that is a bit too much. Sherri said that the endorphins will help you out of a depression.

The wealthy do not spend a lot of money proportionally and save more money. Joy said that they have more to save. Chatzky said that saving feels good and it is a form of self care. Whoopi said that a lot of people saved, but got boned by AIG. Chatzky said that there is a difference between saving and investing and your savings should be a in a safe harbor.

  1. susieq Says:

    Whoopi is blending into the backdrop with that color of shirt.

    It was cold in LA? Really? Geez we couldn’t tell with, what, you wearing gloves and scarves.

    WTF is Elisabeth wearing? Perhaps she’s hitting the cocktail party circuit after the show.

  2. Pepperbird Says:

    Looks like Whoopi got the memo about her dull mousy outfits! She looks fine today in her beautiful silk blouse.

  3. susieq Says:

    Joy, I love you, but you and all your tablemates are guilty of saying things to get press. And they all comment on people’s weight. They are in no position to judge LI, IMO.

  4. Roger from Ohio Says:

    Will Elisabeth keep defending Megan McCain if she starts to “criticize” the Republican party for not being “moderate”

  5. susieq Says:

    Whoopi, it’s all publicity. Jim Cramer is on TV, he’s going to want to stay in the news so people will watch HIS show.

    AIG is the most horrendous example of greed. I say let them have there bonuses but subtract it off of any future earnings. In other words, they don’t make another dime in salary or commissions till the bonus money is worked off. And they can’t leave the company. I would change their pay rate to minimum wage so they would have to work there forever.

  6. Pepperbird Says:

    IMO Sherri’s outfit is a trainwreck. I can’t even concentrate on what she’s saying.

  7. Roger from Ohio Says:

    This “outrage” about money drives me nuts….. Chris Brown beats the crap out of his girlfriend and “we werent there” A woman teacher abuses her student…. “she is too pretty to go to jail” Airplane crash when like 40 people die…. not a word about it.

    But when there is a money problem….. lets get all enraged and rant about how terrible those people are.

  8. berndoubt Says:

    Meghan McCain has already criticized the Republican party, but maybe Elisabeth hasn’t heard that yet. Since there’s no election right around the corner, hence no win or loss, it’s not quite as important to her. Knowing that Elisabeth likes to back a winner, she should start following the moderates now, because the far right has no chance from here on out.

    Triple EWWWWW! about Bill Geddie calling Elisabeth ‘pregnant girls gone wild’. ICK! YUCK! GAH!

  9. Vegas Says:

    That was annoying when Joy told Elisabeth she looks like a ‘hot pregnant lady’. That’s all she needed to hear. I thought for sure Elisabeth was going to start puckering her lips, feeling up her boobs and rubbing on her belly.

  10. susieq Says:

    McCain seeemed to be ignoring the economic problems. Obama wants to instill confidence in the economy.

  11. Pepperbird Says:

    I just don’t buy that any company is obligated to pay bonuses. Somebody is lying. Isn’t it a given that the bonuses are predicated on excellent performance? Thus such spectacular BAD performance should incur FIRING, not just a lost bonus.

  12. susieq Says:

    Elisabeth is such a hypocrite. If it was anyone other than SP’s daughter she would be criticizing Bristol for being irresponsible. And Palin had no problem using her own daughter for publicity.

  13. berndoubt Says:

    OMG! Kristen Wiig on SNL is spot on with Elisabeth. I saw the skit before, but the listening to Elisabeth just say, conservatives have always allowed for abortion in cases of rape and incest, and then having to backpedal sounded EXACTLY like her portrayal on SNL. She is an idiot who acts like a bratty little beast.

  14. mibi Says:

    why was whoppi just getting back when they were done on wendsday?

    I feel bad for Meghan Mccain. Ingram was hating. She (MM) seems like a nice girl and they needed to stick to the issues. Compliment to EH yes she is cuter than that witch Ann Coulter.

    Loved Jon Stewart breaking Cramer down. He did it humourously and intellengently left Cramer blabbering.

    I’m so so so so done with AIG they all need to be slapped. They need bumper stickers about this much more than the people who are trying to save there houses . ( honk if im paying your bonus.)

    Obama is trying poor baby. From what I understand the economy is getting causiously better.

    * Note to View staff Riahnnan and Chris have broken up ove the weekend.

    Levi said he would like to be back with Bristol at some point but he is too young now. I wish them all the best.

    Eh you cant have it both ways. You cant be this is the standard and then become understanding about not living up to it when it someone who is republican but not with everyone else.

  15. Pepperbird Says:

    #9 Vegas, ITA. She still has time left on this show [shudder] to treat us to that Mommy act. Did you see the wiggling and writhing when she was trying to sit down in that getup?

  16. Roger from Ohio Says:

    #11 Pepperbird–

    Isn’t it a given that the bonuses are predicated on excellent performance?

    There is a few different ways to look at this.

    Id like to know how many people are going to be receiving this $165 million….. Even though AIG lost a lot of money over all, not all departments lost money….. so they say, the departments that made money, those people “earned” their bonus.

    Think about it as a baseball player… in his contract he gets a bonus if he gets over 150 hits in a season…….. it doesnt matter if the team wins or loses…. if he gets his hits, he gets his bonus.

    Another thing to look at, is this bonus part of his “salary” Did he take a lower base salary because of the “expected” bonus?

  17. Roger from Ohio Says:

    I read that Levi isnt able to see his kid as often as he wants to, Bristol makes excuses when she can.

    If that keeps up, he needs to file for custody. If she wont allow him access to his child, she should give up custody. If he isnt being abusive, he should have just as much time with his child as she does.

  18. Roger from Ohio Says:

    Only a right wing nut case would call an attractive woman with “womanly curves” fat.

    It seems to me that the only way should could be considered fat is if you compare to her to a 14 yr old girl.

  19. Diane from N.J. Says:

    Come on , somebody on panel say it already - Hasselbeck you know the truth on who Laura Ingraham is….

    SHE’S ANOTHER REGULAR FOX NEWS CONTRIBUTOR.

  20. Roger from Ohio Says:

    you are right Diane…… they know who she is

    then again, maybe they dont know since they dont do their own “research”

  21. mibi Says:

    Did Eh really say in her own snarky little way agree that they were mean to the mccain after she defended them on huckabees show. Eh stop lying.

  22. mibi Says:

    defended the views treatment of the mccains to be clear

  23. Diane from N.J. Says:

    WHAT DO AN COULTER, LAURA INGRAHAM, AND ELIZABETH HASSESNARK HAVE IN COMMON?

    they are all…

    - blonde
    - white
    - Republican
    - mean sprited and hateful
    - Fox news goddesses
    - flaunt their Christian ideals
    - wear prominent crosses around their necks
    but Coulter & Ingraham are:
    - late 40-something and never been married

  24. Pepperbird Says:

    #16 Roger, I don’t know from sports bonuses.

    But in businesses, in my personal experience, bonuses tend to be predicated on vectors of good individual performance, group/department performance, and overall company performance for a quarter or some time period. Executive bonuses are typically a variation of this combination, and other factors can be included for them too, if the business is MANAGED WELL and honestly. [In America, a sad minority.]

    With poorly managed businesses, all bets are off re: bonus policy. So executive scoundrels can write their own tickets, and do. Some of them loot the company in the process, and now they’re looting the American taxpayers.

  25. Stacee Says:

    Roger from Ohio Says: “If that keeps up, he needs to file for custody. If she wont allow him access to his child, she should give up custody. If he isnt being abusive, he should have just as much time with his child as she does.”

    MY RESPONSE: I wonder if Palin will use her office to go after Levi (like she did with her sister’s ex)

  26. Stacee Says:

    Pepperbird Says: “But in businesses, in my personal experience, bonuses tend to be predicated on vectors of good individual performance, group/department performance, and overall company performance for a quarter or some time period.”

    MY RESPONSE: That’s my understanding as well.

  27. Roger from Ohio Says:

    #25 Stacee–

    MY RESPONSE: I wonder if Palin will use her office to go after Levi (like she did with her sister’s ex)

    Why do you think his mom was arrested when she was? No one will be able to convince me that the Palins didnt know what was going on her their daughter’s boyfriend’s house.

    and since they were “white trash” (Bristol’s words) they had to be “taken care of”

  28. mibi Says:

    SS she is saying being open/positive in order to be open to innovativation. which sounds like is needed to come up with a way to make money

  29. Vegas Says:

    Meghan McCain would be perfect on the show as a permanant cohost. She’s 24, fits the ‘young one’ catagory, and she’s smart. I thought as I was watching her I would love to see her on a more permamant basis. Maybe when Elisabeth leaves to have this next baby, she won’t come back and Meghan can take her place. Meghan is certainly more likable than Elisabeth.

  30. mibi Says:

    you guys know whats funny as I was listening to levi’s interview I keep thinking he better not say nothing bad about the palins they will get you.

  31. Roger from Ohio Says:

    AIG is an insurance company…… they “insured” the bad loans that were sold to so many different companies.

    When these loans went bad…. they had to pay out the dough.

    Many different departments made money, but when the insurance policies had to be paid off…. as a whole they lost money.

    The departments that made money are the ones that are getting the bonuses…. That is the only part that makes any sense.

    Think about when Katrina hit…. lots of insurance companies lost money that year because of the payouts that were done….. many of them got a “bailout” back then by the government, but it wasnt called a bailout.

    Im not defending the criminals that did this to our economy…. Im just passing along my prospective on this whole thing.

  32. Pepperbird Says:

    #25 Stacee: “I wonder if Palin will use her office to go after Levi (like she did with her sister’s ex)”

    Very good point! Don’t be surprised if Palin does it again, despite the trouble she got into last time, misusing her office and charging her personal expenses to taxpayers. She was found out in the limelight, but that won’t stop her now, even if she has future plans in national politics. I “read” her as that arrogant.

  33. mibi Says:

    Roger dear I hope the people gettign the bounus are the people who are making money for AIG. but i hear tale of an exc signing on his department tanking and he had to leave 2 weeks after taking the postion he still got his multimilllion dollar “bonus”. some of these folks are not playing fair.

  34. berndoubt Says:

    In order from the beginning of the show until I got bored with it. I took notes in the first hot topics section. I don’t know how Winnie does it.

    It’s a day of Hot Topics, except for two guests. What? Why do they do this?

    Elisabeth’s shoes were too tall and her pants were too tight to get up in the chair.

    Elisabeth said “Joy and I slept together”, but Joy said Elisabeth it either asleep or “yak, yak, yak”.

    Whoopi, in response to Ann Coulter saying that after being on The View she felt younger and prettier, points to Elisabeth and talks about how young and pretty she is. WTF?

    Then they start the next set up hot topics, they mention Rihanna and Chris Brown and the audience groans. They never come back to the topic, because Elisabeth can’t keep herself from defending Sarah Palin.

    Now, when Meghan McCain was on it would have been interesting to ask her what SHE thinks of Sarah Palin.

  35. berndoubt Says:

    Someone over at TwoP made a good point about the ugliness in the Republican party and their views on women being partly a result of John McCain, so as much as you can feel sorry for Meghan McCain, her father is at least part of the problem with the misogynistic views of the right.

  36. Diane from N.J. Says:

    “Now, when Meghan McCain was on it would have been interesting to ask her what SHE thinks of Sarah Palin.”

    Bern - Oh, yes, yes, yes.

    And I’m not quoting Meg Ryan in the diner scene in When Harry Met Sally.

  37. Diane from N.J. Says:

    Vegas - Was also thinking same thing re: Meghan having permanent position on panel. Hmmm… very interesting food-for-thought possibility. Wonder if she is positioning herself to go after the job. She’s not that bright - but she’s not that hateful either.

  38. Roger from Ohio Says:

    #33 Mibi–

    Roger dear I hope the people gettign the bounus are the people who are making money for AIG.

    Im sure there were many illegal things that went on, that are going on….. but all of this “outrage” that has been going on, in my opinion, is a distraction on what really has been happening.

    Jon Stewart did a good job calling out CNBC for their lack of journalistic actions.

  39. berndoubt Says:

    I’m not sure if Meghan McCain isn’t bright. She doesn’t sound very smart because of her speech pattern. If Laura Ingraham (yes, EH you KNOW who she is) would have stopped her critique at the Valley Girl voice and not made an issue of weight, she may have even had a point. But, it seems conservatives, especially conservative women, can’t get the hang of debating issues without making it personal.

    If anyone in the leadership of the Republican party had an iota of intelligence, they’d embrace her and use her name recognition and pleasant, moderate manner to attract young people to the party. I’m so glad they’re too busy sucking up to Rush!

  40. susieq Says:

    Pepperbird, I “read” Palin as vindictive.

    On another note, I wonder if anybody at the View gets bonuses when their rating go up. Wouldn’t that explain when they do things to intentionally stay in the news.

    IMO Meghan McCain might be too smart for this show. I’m going to hold her father’s actions against her. Now Cindy McCain, is another story. If my hubby called me “See You Next Tuesday” (thank you Charlotte York) he would have gotten at the very least a smack.

  41. Kelly Says:

    It must be Hard out Here for a Pimp – if Elisabeth can’t afford maternity clothes.

  42. Diane from N.J. Says:

    My compliments to Pepperbird and Roger on your analysis of the AIG debacle. I still am having difficulty understanding the mess.
    ~~~~~
    Also - re: the Jon Stewart/ Jim Cramer showdown. HAVE YOU ALL SEEN LAST THURSDAY’S (3/12) THE DAILY SHOW WITH THE SHOWDOWN?
    The entire last week of Jon Stewart calling out CNBC and Jim Cramer’s complicity on their role, of NOT REPORTING TRUTH on the finanical market and therefore DELIBERATELY misleading viewers that take their advice.
    Stewart was fantastic.
    Ya gotta go over to HUffPo , Comedy Central, or YOuTube to see it.
  43. Diane from N.J. Says:
    Bern - Goodpoints re: MMCain
    SusieQ - Agreed on Palin.
    And, Kelly ! She’s back and we’ve got her!
    My apologies for any over-use of ALL CAPS, dang there I go again. Its not always meant to be shouting; sometimes I think its just makes the thread easier to scan.
  44. susieq Says:
    Meghan McCain who was the DAUGHTER of the Republican nominee can speak for herself, she doesn’t blindly go along with the GOP but Elisabeth will follow them into a burning building if Hannity said to. I’ve always said the only reason EH publically acts like a Reublican Right Wing Christian is because that was what was “in” when she came to fame. I really do think she used it as a career boost. And now, she’s stuck. Her team isn’t in vogue now and she’s the odd woman out. She hitched her star to Bush and Limbaugh and all the other Republican biggies and now Bush is political poison and Limbaugh, if the way he dresses is any indication, apparently is looking to join the low end of the Mafia. Seriously all he needs his some gold chains and a bowl of spaghetti in front of him. Sorry Elisabeth, your “kind” is hopefully on the way out.
  45. mibi Says:
    it hard out here for a pimp
    when she trying to pay this 3 million dollar rent
    for when the disney and diaper money spent
    got a whole lot husband jumping ship
    i think she having twins. random i know.
  46. marilyn Says:
    #13 berndoubt- I agree with your remark that Kristen Wiig, on SNL, is “spot on “, as EH. I think KW is the best new addition to SNL. All of her segments are “right on” and funny. Have you seen her “do” Kathy Lee Gifford”, from the today show?
  47. berndoubt Says:
    #43, Diane, stop apologizing. You’re expressing yourself well so use whatever you can to do it. Typing this stuff is a little like painting…you only have two dimensions to express yourself, so do it to it, baby!
  48. marilyn Says:
    # 14 - Mibi
    Whoopi did not get home until Monday, because she stopped to see her Mother and family, on her way back to NY.
  49. berndoubt Says:
    #45, did you hear Elisabeth’s question to Jean Chatsky, one of the “non-guests” on today’s full day of Hot Topics? It was something like, “What if you’ve got three kids and a mortgage and you’ve lost your job, what do you do then?” I don’t know, Elisabeth, but as mean as this sounds, I hope you find out!
  50. susieq Says:
    “What if you’ve got three kids and a mortgage and you’ve lost your job, what do you do then?” I don’t know, Elisabeth, but as mean as this sounds, I hope you find out!”
    Now Bern, Elisabeth, will be fine. She’ll have the residuals from the “Pregnant Girls Gone Wild” videos. With Geddie producing of course.
  51. marilyn Says:
    Diane from N.J. Says:
    March 16th, 2009 at 10:29 am
    My compliments to Pepperbird and Roger on your analysis of the AIG debacle. I still am having difficulty understanding the mess.
    ~~~~~

    response-
    ME TOO.

  52. Roger from Ohio Says:

    #49 berndoubt–

    I don’t know, Elisabeth, but as mean as this sounds, I hope you find out!

    I thought the same thing… but EH will never quit…. she will have to be fired…. she has a $3 million house to pay for.

  53. Diane from N.J. Says:

    THANK YOU BERN.
    Now if I could only type in a really great font. I like a nice font.

  54. berndoubt Says:

    Pregnant GIRLS, it’s the GIRLS part that is most disconcerting. We all know Bill is smacking the mackerel in his office when he thinks about his precious Elisabeth, but to call her, at 30-something, a pregnant GIRL, is SO DISGUSTING! Yes, even more disgusting than my reference to his mackerel. It seems Republican men can’t seem to separate women’s value from their looks. Sad. We’ve got so much more to offer than arm candy.

  55. susieq Says:

    “I thought the same thing… but EH will never quit…. she will have to be fired…. she has a $3 million house to pay for.”

    You bring up an interesting point Roger. If she had been pregnant when she made those remarks about Michelle Obama I would have said she was intentionally trying to get fired so she could sue for being fired while pregnant. IMO she’s calculating enough to do that. And she loves to play the victim.

  56. susieq Says:

    Bern, if say Bill Clinton, or any other Democratic man called Elisabeth a “girl” she would act outraged, like how dare he, I’m a woman, maybe he can’t handle a real woman, blah, blah, blah. But if Geddie calls her a “girl” she giggles like a…girl. Enough said.

  57. Roger from Ohio Says:

    #44 susieq–

    I’ve always said the only reason EH publically acts like a Reublican Right Wing Christian is because that was what was “in” when she came to fame. I really do think she used it as a career boost. And now, she’s stuck.

    Yep…. most of it is an act…… I would love to sit down with Rosie and ask her all about it…….. but if that opportunity every came up for me…. I doubt I would even bring up that little twit in my convo with Rosie. There are so many other parts about Rosie than her making Elisabeth famous.

  58. Pepperbird Says:

    #44 susieq Am still laughing about your comment “…Limbaugh, if the way he dresses is any indication, apparently is looking to join the low end of the Mafia.”

    Thanks to all who said they liked the Aig bonus discussion…I can only think about the bonus mess in small “mind-bytes” because I get nauseated quickly and can’t go there anymore.

  59. mibi Says:

    I missed that comment bern but im sure if Eh ever ended up in that unfortunate situation she would take a fair and reason stance and ask and seek an appropriate level of help since she is a white chirstian republican who this does not happen to so she would deserve the help.

  60. Roger from Ohio Says:

    *on the outside looking in*

    Is “girl” “chick” really “offensive” to women?

    I doubt I would be able to stop using those words….. so I guess Im destined to be “offensive” without trying :(

  61. mibi Says:

    Roger your a grown man do you want someone calling you boy?

  62. Pepperbird Says:

    Rog, Were you also offended like me and #34 berndoubt about Bitsy’s ““Joy and I slept together”?

    Buh?? At first I thought she opened mouth and inserted foot, but maybe she was trying to grab the spotlight or wanted to provoke Joy.

  63. Elsie Says:

    welcome back to nyc ladies! wow, the gals are reenerginezed after the disney overdose last week. hot topics are really hot. can’t wait to read the recap. I’m writing on Word. will copy/paste my comment. watching hot topics now. logging in to wtv.

  64. berndoubt Says:

    #62, as with everything else we discuss here, it’s all about context and intention. I would find it offensive to have an old, white Republican call me a girl. I would know that it meant that he thought of me as less than him. From you, Roger, it MIGHT not feel offensive. From my girlfriends it is absolutely not offensive. I guess it’s a matter of using a term to describe yourself, as opposed to someone else.

  65. Roger from Ohio Says:

    #61 mibi–

    Roger your a grown man do you want someone calling you boy?

    I dont think it would bother me, unless of course it was mean to be offensive. It would bother me if it was an insult, but that isnt what I was asking about.

    If I was talking to a friend of mine and I said… thats my girl over there… is that offensive? or if I said… did you see that chick that almost got hit by that car? is that offensive?

    or “should” every reference in regards to a female over the age of 18 be either lady or woman?

    personally, I hope not.

  66. berndoubt Says:

    #64, for someone who doesn’t seem to want to treat homosexuals to equal human rights, it sure doesn’t bother Bitsy to tease her Geddie-Weddie with a lesbian reference. SUCH A HYPOCRITE! I can’t stand the hypocrisy! She is vile!

  67. kellyjo Says:

    Weren’t they talking about women attacking women? Why are so many of you carrying it a little too far?

  68. Julianne Says:

    There’s nothing “hot” about that twit. Gross.

  69. Pepperbird Says:

    I was glad to see that Whoopi was alert and vocal, participating and leading again. She was just a zombie during Disney week–had a hangover, or was cold, or worried about something. Visiting her mom obviously helped her.

  70. Roger from Ohio Says:

    #62 Pepperbird–

    Rog, Were you also offended like me and #34 berndoubt about Bitsy’s ““Joy and I slept together”?

    Not really…. I usually discard her when she does that.

    Personally I think, like most republicans, she is a closet bi-sexual. She tries to be “edgy” with that kind of chatter….. remember when she was “bragging” about “sleeping with her best friend” on the girls night out a few months ago?

  71. Stacee Says:

    FROM RECAP: [...] Elisabeth said that conservatives across the board have always made that exception.

    MY RESPONSE: That is SO not true!!! What is she talking about? There are many “conservatives’, particularly the religious ones, that say even though a girl/woman is raped and is impregnated, it’s not the fetus’ fault and that the woman should not abort it. No exceptions!

  72. mibi Says:

    no rog the references you made would not be offensive. but someone you work with calling you over by saying “woman come here.” as if woman was your name might be offensive(. but personlly I find it funny but dont tell anyone.) or refering to a 45 yr old woman as a great girl when a wounderful woman might be better. but it mostly context as everything is

  73. Stephanie Says:

    Did the hosts act like they didnt know who Laura Ingrahm was? She was a guest co-host when EH left for maternity ..??

  74. Roger from Ohio Says:

    #69 Pepperbird–

    I was glad to see that Whoopi was alert and vocal, participating and leading again.

    I think it is because of Barbara Walters. I dont think that Whoopi feels comfortable when BW is on the show…. like she doesnt have a part to play.
    But then I believe that BW brings the show down and the show is 50% better when she isnt on that day.

  75. MiamiVision Says:

    DianeinNJ #19 - did they say they didn’t know who Ingraham was? She freaken cohosted the view for a week in Nov 2007 when EH had her 2nd baby.

    I tried posting the link from gawker but my posts were not taken, so I had to remove the link from my name.

  76. Roger from Ohio Says:

    Recap: Elisabeth said it undercuts the point that anyone tries to make, because people will focus on what they look like.

    Doesnt EH COUNT on that?

  77. Diane from N.J. Says:

    “Elisabeth said that conservatives across the board have always made that exception.”(re:Repubs allowing for choice in cases of rape & incest).

    Stacee, YOU ARE CORRECT.

    Hasselbark - YOU LIED. AGAIN.

    Unfortunately no one on the panel called her on it.

  78. Pepperbird Says:

    #74 Yes Roger–very good insight about Barbara being absent.

    Today Whoopi was feeling more free to be herself, and more confident. Last week maybe she was even more uncomfortable by BW’s presence and the heavy Disney atmosphere (as owners of ABC). It surprises me that anyone could intimidate Whoopi, but as the song says we all have to “serve somebody…”

  79. marilyn Says:

    The Weight issue :

    I thought I heard Meghan McCain say she was a size 8. If that is so………… When did a size 8 become a Plus Size? Check out Lane Bryant. No way !!!!

    Also,Last night,on “Desperate Housewives”, they addressed this issue. Hubby hired a plus size ex-girlfriend to work for him and the wife thought this was safe. Then he explained how her weight was never a problem between them and she was beautiful. etc etc etc. Anybody catch it? It was on ABC and it would have been a good hot topic comment, as they were on this subject.

  80. Real Says:

    I’m lazy today to read through the comments at the moment, but quick question- DID ANYONE NOTICE THAT THEY NEVER MENTIONED THAT LAURA INGRAHAM HAS BEEN A GUEST PANELIST ON THEIR SHOW?!

    Sorry to shout, but to paint this woman as totally anonymous seemed very shady.

  81. Elsie Says:

    Loved the SNL clip.

  82. berndoubt Says:

    #75, good point, Stephanie, I forgot about that. Thanks for bringing it up.

    If you google “Laura Ingraham The View” the Gawker clip comes up.

  83. Stacee Says:

    susieq Says: “I’ve always said the only reason EH publically acts like a Reublican Right Wing Christian is because that was what was “in” when she came to fame. I really do think she used it as a career boost.”

    MY RESPONSE: I agree. I’ve said she wears the “Republican” badge. So she embraces the ideals and parrots the right wing talking points not because she fully believes them but because it’s like her JOB to. She does not realize you can identify strongly with one party yet agree with certain ideas or philosophies of another. And that it’s okay to acknowledge them.
    That’s the biggest problem I have with her, it’s all about Republicans vs them. She is such a hypocrite. If a dem does something - like, oh I dunno, cheat on their wife, they are a bad husband or father and not fit to run a country. However, if a Republican does it *coughMcCaincough*, and is running for President, you don’t hear a peep from her.

    And she can spare me with her usual Bristol was being attacked, her unborn baby, oh no!!! drama nonsense. We all know that if this were President Obama’s daughter, the right would have not treated the pregnancy with the same kid gloves they handled Palin with. And the soon to be husband/fiancee/boyfriend on the stage at the RNC??? The media would have had a field day if this were Obama’s daughter.

    And no one attacked Bristol for her pregnancy; they went after Palin for her hypocrisy as well as the Republican party and their idea of what “family values” entails. It seems to have changed within the past year, hasn’t it?

  84. Pepperbird Says:

    [Bow to Bob Dylan:]

    “You’re gonna have to serve somebody, yes indeed
    You’re gonna have to serve somebody.
    Well, it may be the devil or it may be the Lord
    But you’re gonna have to serve somebody.”

  85. Diane from N.J. Says:

    Miami - YES! Ingraham WAS ON THE VIEW SEVERAL TIMES.

    From: IMDB -

    “The View” …. Herself / … (3 episodes, 2003-2007)
    - Episode dated 12 November 2007 (2007) TV episode …. Herself - Co-Host
    - Episode dated 4 November 2003 (2003) TV episode …. Herself
    - Episode dated 23 October 2003 (2003) TV episode …. Herself

  86. Hallie Says:

    Was EH’s fake laugh during the SNL skit to cover her cringe gasp at the negative emails to EH coming from their own office?

  87. Diane from N.J. Says:

    By The Way - “IMDB” is a great web site to look up any TV or Movie record, plus celeb birthdate and other trivia. If you love movies - it’s a must-have-this-site bookmarked.

  88. Pepperbird Says:

    #83 Yikes, Stacee! [Memo to Pepperbird-self]: Don’t want to tick Stacee off. :)

  89. MiamiVision Says:

    Thanks Diane!! So EH was on the View starting November of 2003…see? These people’s memories are fubar…fooked up beyond all repair. Unbelievable. Thanks on IMBD too!

  90. berndoubt Says:

    All right, Diane from N.J., I have two, yeah two, posts in moderation because of links that were directed at you and your love for fonts. I love them, too! My niece and I found this great clip on “yew toob (daut) kom”. Look up “font conference”. It’s awesome!

  91. mibi Says:

    um guys just cause some comes on your show 3 times and interacts wiht you for several hours does not mean you know who they are or what they stand for. it just means.. you know they were there.. and stuff that all

    so im going to class where people make sense.
    xoxo

  92. Roger from Ohio Says:

    #90 berndoubt–

    “yew toob (daut) kom”

    Have you been hitting the sauce early, or did you eat the left over brownies?

  93. susieq Says:

    The View always acts like the people they’re dissing, like Laura Ingraham today are irrevelant, like they’re nobodies, but they the View panel are somebodies. Yeah right.

    And did you all catch Sherri telling MM Jeffrey loves his McCain book. Sure, he does, just like Grace loves Cha Cha and Beverly Sills music.

    And what was the point of mentioning CB and RH and JA and JM breaking up and then not discussing it? Even Page Six gives some details. What are they going to do tomorrow, blind items? If they are, I have one, “Which talk show twit is dressing quite unlike the “Christian” she claims to be? Is it contract renewal time already?”

  94. Elsie Says:

    Laura Ingraham has John McCain on her show. His quote is featured as quote of the day on her internet page that is also named lauraingra ham. He could be considered a friend. Wow, to have a ‘friend’ make such a comment about ur daughter, and during lent. She’s catholic. (To see her in her 20s, cli ck on my name.)

  95. berndoubt Says:

    #94, I was afraid that if I put in anything even resembling that place on the intranets where you can look at videos I might go into moderation again. It’s weird…today for the first time, I can see the comment in the middle of the posts, but it has a little line at the top that says it’s in moderation.

    Does anybody else see #56 or #58 with my links to that place that shant be mentioned?

  96. Kelly Says:

    FACT: Sarah Palin advocated abstinence only programs. Her teen daughter’s pregnancy punched big gaping holes in the practicality of her ideology, thereby forcing her to ‘refine’ her position on teen pregnancy prevention during Bristol’s ‘surprise’ interview on FAUX.
    FICTION: Palin herself sets high standards? WRONG Eli$abits. There is a difference between practicing what you preach and the “Do As I Say Not As I Do” methodologies. Not only did Sarah Palin’s teen daughter become a single mother, Sarah herself was pregnant before her elopement. Abstinence? Todd and Sarah eloped on August 29, 1988 and had son Track on April 20, 1989. Sarah gave birth to her 5th child at the age of 44 to a baby with Down’s Syndrome. Shouldn’t abstinence be practiced for women over 40 considering the high rate of Down’s, especially at age 44 (1 in 52 births)?

    FACT: Joy and Whoopi were discussing Palin’s hypocrisy and failed ideology.
    FICTION: Joy and Whoopi think Tripp should have been aborted? WRONG. Try to stay inside the lines Eli$abits.

    FACT: Laura Ingrahm looses credibility when she called Meghan “plus-sized.”
    FICTION: Eli$abits doesn’t loose credibility when she calls someone “glitter-glasses-what’s-his-face?”

    FACT: John McCain claimed the fundamentals of the economy were strong when denying the US was in a recession. “If we keep talking about the economic crisis, we’re going to lose.” – McCain aide.
    FICTION: Obama did the same thing? WRONG. Christina Romer, NOT Obama, said, “The fundamentals are sound in the sense that the American workers are sound, we have a good capital stock, we have good technology,” she said. “We know that — that temporarily we’re in a mess, right? We’ve seen huge job loss, we’ve seen very large falls in GDP. So certainly in the short run we’re in a — in a bad situation.”
    The point: Obama’s economic advisor is trying to build consumer confidence so you won’t lose your 401(k) Eli$abits. She isn’t denying the recession.

    FACT: The McCains were interrogated on The View after they ran a nasty and dishonest campaign.
    FICTION: Obama wasn’t asked any hard questions during his interview? WRONG – the imp asked him about Rev. Wright and his ‘associations.’ FAUX didn’t bother to include that portion of The View interview in their side-by-side analysis.

    FACT: The View ‘ladies’ love Obama. Deal with it Eli$abits.

    (clink the link to see the Obama/McCain side-by-side interviews)

  97. Cassy Says:

    I’ve only seen the clip on HuffPo, but I look forward to seeing the tape of today’s show and I’m basing that solely off of the great comments posted so far.

  98. Lala Says:

    I liked the SNL clip too. And I really loved the fabric in Whoopi’s blouse. Very pretty!

  99. susieq Says:

    Kelly, dear, you know Elisabeth has NEVER had any credibility.

    IMO Elisabeth dislikes any and all well-known conservative women. She’s very territorial and I can see her wanting to be THE face of the Conservative part of the GOP. Give her time, she’ll at some point turn on Sarah Palin.

  100. Kelly Says:

    Here Meghan McCain – this link is for you. As you can see – Obama was in the hot seat too. Don’t hold it against the ladies of The View for not warming up to your father – the majority of Americans weren’t able to either.

    Why is it always the Republicans who want to “just move forward” when discussing their failings? Like McCain. Bush. Cheney. Rove. It’s time to play the blame game. And it’s time to put some people in jail.

    I have a feeling Meghan and Elisabeth have NO idea of the criminality of the Bush Administration – that was perpetuated by John McCain.

    Click on my name.

  101. Elsie Says:

    *Laura Ingraham-always comments on people’s weight. Both en and women.(Michael Moore,Ted Kennedy, but not Rush, hmm.)She even had a section called Pork Busting Tip of the Week on her site,Works out alot,has a daughtr.
    *Ann Coulter-She’s just ‘lucky’ I guess or sick(?)made ref. to Hil clinton’s ‘fat little ankles’.
    *’Dr.’Laura-berrates fat people. fffat!she says.works out like maniac. not pretty, has issues
    *EH-defends ‘+sized girls’also works out like heck,even when preg.
    *Joy-always slips in a fat ref.ie, smoking pot makes u fat, laughs, Michell O. should wear black (can’t get over this 1)b/c sh’s not a ’skinny bit*#.
    *BW-feels relieve that OW is 200 lbs, b/c she is not as pressured to wtch own wght, noticed how HC looks thickr, nver mind she was wearing a thick coat.

  102. May Says:

    Glad to see the hosts back in NYC. How is Sherri going to do a tv show in L.A. and still work on “The Veiw? I hope she can do both..would hate to see her leave the show.
    Yes (a word EH says every 2 seconds when someone else is talking but not about democrats) I did see the little “twist, wiggle, look at me everybody I know you all like me better when I’m preggers”bit EH did before sitting her buttinsky down in the seat. What a flaming show off twit she is.
    Someone said she came on the show in 2003. Does anyone know if they sign 5 yr contracts or yearly? If 5 years we’re screwed.
    Oh I should just relax and go get my bp pills.

  103. Kelly Says:

    We all remember Obama asking EH to “Imagine if somebody compiled the 5 stupidest things you’d ever said…and put them in a 30-sec loop that was played everyday for two weeks.” (Watch Joy’s face)

    Notice how this portion of the Obama/View interview was MISSING from the FAUX clip in my #96 link above? How selective –

    Google: 5 stupidest things Elisabeth Hasselbeck has ever said

  104. Aileen Says:

    #67 KellyJo – I agree about the personal attacks

    #71 Stacee – ITA You took the words out of my mouth before I could!

    #73 Steph – ITA look above. So weird they acted like they didn’t know who she was. It makes their point almost moot. They are playing dumb.

    #79 Mar – I saw that and was taken back. Hubby said the weight was not an issue for him. But I do remember calling his wife out and not looking the same when he married her so that was confusing to me.

    I’m just saying…

  105. susieq Says:

    I’m pretty sure they’re long-term contracts May. Except for Rosie, her contract was for one year and when they wanted her to re-sign she says they wanted more than one year and she didn’t want more than that.

    Now when Lisa Ling was on she was there from 1999-2003, that’s four years. When Star was asked to leave she had been on for nine years. So I’m assuming she had been re-signed at some point and it was the second contract that wasn’t renewed. I do know that a lot of contracts work in 13 wk. cycles usually tilted to the employers side. Meaning every 13 wks an employer can “reevaluate” an employees performance and act accordingly. Not sure if the employer has to pay off the remaining contract though.

    I do know that it was 3 yrs ago around this time that Star was told she was being cut loose. Hopefully EH will find out the same thing.

  106. Pepperbird Says:

    [Donning sackcloth and ashes for penance]: I am continuing to think I was ‘way harsh on Whoopi for being so quiet and unresponsive while they were in LA last week. It had to be caused by the combined presence of BW and the imposing Disney godfathers surrounding them everywhere. Didn’t one of them visit the stage for BW’s silly “hands award” too?

    Whoopi, I apologize.

  107. Kelly Says:

    “Honk If I’m Paying Your Bonus”

    Excellent mibi-

    Big difference between people who think we’re actually paying someone’s mortgage – someone who lost their job due to these crooks and needs to refinance their loan terms – and us actually paying millions in bonuses for failing performances.

  108. Elsie Says:

    UDATE, update on Laura Ingraham DOTtydotty COMmunication. (gee,getting tuffer to outwit the sys. to avoid going into mod.) This is what Miss Ingraham posted. Earlier she posted ‘Meghan McCain, Intellectual Heavyweight?’ as headline. To see Laura 20+ years ago, click on Elsie. Wow, hard to believe, whn thrs a nat. crisis.
    “USEFUL IDIOT” WATCH…
    Memo to Meghan McCain: Enjoy the media coverage while it lasts, but know you’re being used. You are the flavor of the month in left-wing media land because you are a Republican bashing the GOP. Likewise, your dad is most popular among the same people when he is slamming his Republican brethren in full-blown “maverick” fashion. At least he backs up his views with a lifetime of sacrifice and public service. What is Ms. McCain’s own political, business, or real-world experience that lends credibility to her argument that the GOP needs to “moderate” (read: abandon its core principles)?
    Now the Left is seizing on one satirical line from our show to paint Meghan as the victim of a right-wing hate crime. This comes from the same playbook responsible for the ongoing demonization of Rush Limbaugh — where his take on President Obama’s economic policies are misrepresented as some kind of attack on America.
    The left’s over-heated indignation over my throw-away satirical line in a five-minute monologue is totally phony. They look the other way when obvious personal attacks are used against conservatives. Remember when Al Franken was the toast of all media for his book “Rush Limbaugh is a Big Fat Idiot”? Last month The View’s Joy Behar called him a “fat guy”; and when I was a guest on The View a few years back she ridiculed Ann Coulter and me as “peroxide” blondes on Fox.
    Next time, just for fun, Meghan should pretend that she’s had a change of heart and is now a pro-life conservative. Then she’ll really see how the Mean Girls treatment feels.

  109. Roger from Ohio Says:

    #93 susieq–

    “Which talk show twit is dressing quite unlike the “Christian” she claims to be? Is it contract renewal time already?”

    Which one susieq? Sherri or Elisabeth?

  110. Elsie Says:

    “”Click here to listen to the entire segment from March 13th, instead of the version that was edited and sent around by left wing smearmongers.”" Forgot to add.

  111. May Says:

    “Hopefully EH will find out the same thing”
    Amen to that, susieq. Thanx for the info. We can only hope.
    I misspelled “The View”. After all these years (about the time Rosie entered the picture) you would think I would know how to spell it.
    Gary Sinese is coming on tomorrow. Remember how EH bragged that he is a good friend of hers? Guess she’ll get extra hugs,kisses,etc from him..
    I liked him in “Apollo 13″. Saw it many times.

  112. susieq Says:

    I don’t understand how the AIG people can expect a contract that has bonuses written into to be legit, when the company holding the contract needed a massive bailout.

    You know all these people that lost money to Madoff and all these people who lost money in all these other now bankrupt companies, didn’t they have contracts with those companies? So how come their contracts are now worthless?

    Rich people always seem to think that they are still entitled to everything they had even though they no longer can afford it. Bernie Madoff’s wife is a prime example. She shouldn’t be allowed to enjoy a penny of his ill-gotten gains. If it was up to me she would be the old woman who lived in a shoe box. Literally.

  113. Pepperbird Says:

    I take issue with one of Chatzky’s smug little points: #7 invest in stocks. (BTW I hated her chic helmut haircut; it was smug too):

    This “invest now” advice can be self-serving for well-off types who float it in the media (for example, on those conservative talk shows). Hello–the landscape has changed, Dudes! Someday this old-fashioned advice might fly again as sound, but look around you.

    Invest if you must, but veeeeery carefully.

  114. Pepperbird Says:

    helmet hair I meant

  115. susieq Says:

    Roger, I meant Elisabeth. What she was wearing today, is IMO something a pregnant “Christian” doesn’t wear. But what do I know, I’m not pregnant or a Christian.

  116. Kelly Says:

    Roger:

    AIG bonuses are bogus. The US automotive union workers HAD to take pay cuts –forced on them by the Republicans. Didn’t the auto assembly linemen do their jobs well? Didn’t their union contracts stipulate what they should be paid? Didn’t the union workers forgo their bonuses as well? Weren’t their contracts re-written and pay cuts ordered and agreed to when Republicans wanted to punish the unions? Weren’t the auto CEOs forced to take a pay cuts – or forgo bonuses? YES

    [When AIG modeled their operations after hedge funds, they leveraged their off-balance sheet operations to create massive unfunded counterparty exposures that made the firm “systemically important.” Reports suggest that there remain some $300 billion in net notional exposures that must be resolved. Hence, I think the magic number for government infusions here is $300 billion, because the bleeding won’t stop until Treasury commits at least that much if they want to “reduce the systemic importance.”] - CLINK

    AIG engaged in Off-Balance Sheet Financing – and that’s why they are giving our bailout dollars to partner banks. They put the banks at high exposure while cooking their books. They hid their losses and took on more risk – GREED.

    Where were the whistleblowers?
    Where were the auditors?
    Where was the federal oversight?
    How many top executives will receive bonuses at AIG? All but seven.

    “The bonus plan covers 400 employees, and the bonuses range from as little as $1,000 to as much as $6.5 million. Seven executives at the financial products unit were entitled to receive more than $3 million in bonuses.”

  117. Kelly Says:

    Bush did the same thing. Off-balance sheet accounting. He kept the Iraq War off the presidential balance sheet - hiding the escalating costs (embezzlement) from the public.

    I guess the lesson here is; if you’re a Republican, you can pretend your debt/liabilities don’t exist. And when your house of cards come crashing down – grab your golden parachute and blame it on the American homeowner/consumer.

    That’s all they want us to be anyway – just mindless consumers. Sheep.

    I say – the captain must go down with the ship. And no bonuses at the bottom of the open seas. People need to learn to speak up – and fight for justice. Even AIG workers.

  118. Pepperbird Says:

    Ye gods, #116 Kelly: After reading your post I’m even more farklempt about AIG. So are the banks getting double taxpayer dollars:

    1. From their government bailouts AND

    2. Indirectly from government bailout of AIG?

    Farshtunken!

  119. Pepperbird Says:

    #117 Kelly. It sounds like American homeowner/consumers are swimming with the sharks. In your opinion, did the Dems get control in the nick of time, or is is too late?

  120. Kelly Says:

    Cocktail Pepperbird? How about Lemoncello?

    This crisis is worse than most Americans know. Which is why economists say Obama will need double what he has obligated so far. Which is why Obama has budgeted for it.

    Bush deregulation – Reaganomics - off-balance sheet financing – Iraq War and Homeland Security.

    Greed.

  121. Roger from Ohio Says:

    I know that AIG and the bonuses are crooked. Im not surprised that they are stealing this money…… IMO, we are paying attention to the wrong things….. hence, the distraction.

    1 billion is 1000 million. so $160 million in bonuses is less than 1/1000th of the whole $170 billion package.

    Another way of putting this… for every $1000 that AIG is receiving, it is giving $1 in bonuses. Do I think they are deserved? no… but that isnt the point.

    What is going on with the other $169.84 Billion? That is the transparency that I want to know about. it may sound harsh…. but these bonuses are irrelevant in the over all package…. just another distraction.

  122. gonnavent Says:

    kelly, I would love to see you debate Elisabeth about the stim and bailout.

  123. Roger from Ohio Says:

    #118 Pepperbird–

    So are the banks getting double taxpayer dollars:

    1. From their government bailouts AND

    2. Indirectly from government bailout of AIG?

    That is exactly what Jon Stewart asked )I think Wed night) when he interviewed that financial journalist….. I think from the New York Times.

  124. Pepperbird Says:

    BTW, I agree with observers who said (above) that Meghan McCain is a wannabe career girl without viable, practical solutions and ideas for resurging the Republican party.

    I don’t know why she’s bothering to care about politics. As the Princess said, Mommy (multi-millionaire Cindy) has been so good to her. She must be angling for Elisabeth’s job, since it obviously takes no talent, training, or preparation.

  125. Roger from Ohio Says:

    #122 gonnavent–

    kelly, I would love to see you debate Elisabeth about the stim and bailout.

    It wouldnt work gonna…..

    EH would scream ABORTION!! then start crying….. Whoopi would go to commercial, then Kelly would be berated for a week for “attacking” Elisabeth and being pro-abortion. :roll:

  126. Kelly Says:

    Good point Rog –

    But bonuses paid to unethical workers – who helped to put so many Americans out of work – and then out of their homes – should be exposed.

    Call it the ripple effect. Their actions contributed to a larger problem, and innocent Americans are paying the price.

    AIG paid HALF of its bailout funds to banks/counterparties: $90Billion.

  127. Kelly Says:

    Roger says: It wouldnt work gonna…..
    EH would scream ABORTION!! then start crying….. Whoopi would go to commercial, then Kelly would be berated for a week for “attacking” Elisabeth and being pro-abortion.

    Roger’s right. It wouldn’t work because I would choke the chyt out of her before they could rush to commercial break. Of course, by the time we came back on air – she would be a Democrat – debate over.

    Thanks gonnavent *wink*

  128. gonnavent Says:

    Rog,
    ‘EH would scream ABORTION!! then start crying….. Whoopi would go to commercial, then Kelly would be berated for a week for “attacking” Elisabeth and being pro-abortion.’

    LOL!!!!!! you are so wise and correct!

  129. Kelly Says:

    I’d like to point out that we were in a recession long before any Republican would admit it. People were losing their jobs because of bad Bush policies (Iraq War – free-trade with China - deregulation) and then they lost their homes. Then the bubble burst. Domino effect, and more people lost their homes, and now more layoffs and more people are at risk – until the stimulus package. We’re all connected, especially in the financial world. Wall Street gets drunk; China wakes up with a hangover.

    And Wall Street, CEOs, Republicans, Bush and the entire axis of evil blamed it on Americans – and now Obama.

    Pity no one is falling for that anymore. Except Meghan and Elisabeth.

  130. Pepperbird Says:

    The outsourcing trend–years of jobs bleeding away to citizens in other countries overseas–has weakened America so much. We can’t police the world by starting wars, and we can’t employ the world without destroying our own economy. The Republicans and conservatives never see that long-term effect, preferring to enjoy their short-term gains instead, and looting what they can.

  131. mibi Says:

    Kelly would eat EH for lunch in a debate Let put EH with ‘loving republican” steven cobert. she would still end up crying about sexism but at least it would hilarious.

  132. mibi Says:

    I would love to hear what EH thinks about her snl portrayal and what joy thinks of hers? WG and SS seem ok with it there.

  133. gonnavent Says:

    if I remember correctly, I don’t think Joy cares. Didn’t she even mimic the “Who cares” and preface it with something like “As my character on SNL says…” on one episode. She didn’t seem annoyed and I think said something about imitation being the best form of flattery. But I could be melding two episodes into one….

  134. Diane from N.J. Says:

    Pepperbird says: “The Republicans and conservatives never see that long-term effect, preferring to enjoy their short-term gains instead, and looting what they can.”

    Yes, also as in the ‘looting’ our natural resources. Repubs think the planet’s natural gifts are ‘ours’ for the taking - rather than to be responsible stewards of our resources.

  135. susieq Says:

    I’ve always thought when Amercian companies started outsourcing so many jobs that eventually it would come to this. I never bought the argument that it would keep prices for Americans low. IMO all it did was bring less tax revenue into the system, line the pockets of the millionaire owners of these companies and deprive Americans of well paying jobs with benefits. And now people in power are bemoaning the fact that Americans aren’t educated enough to perform some the jobs they now want to bring back to the U.S. Well, you know, when you can’t afford to go to college it’s difficult to become educated in some of these fields. Isn’t ironic that some of the people that started this mess all those years ago are now crying about it.

    I would love for Elisabeth to have to survive (no pun in intended) in this economy like a real person. Of course her idea of economizing would be to read US Weekly online instead of buying it.

  136. mibi Says:

    thanks gonnavent i did not think joy would mind much.

    another random question how manywill guest stop coming on the view because the host will pretend not to know them days later if it suits there agenda?

    that is all xoxo

  137. Kelly Says:

    I actually think the AIG bonuses are being paid as HUSH money.

    Got to keep people quiet. Not everyone has an “executive assassination ring” like Cheney.

    “Behind every great fortune there is a crime.” – Honore de Balzac, French realist novelist

    (I’d investigate the largest bonus payouts)

    Great Points Pepperbird and Diane from N.J. Looters – exactly.

    I think you’re right about Joy gonnavent.

    Hi mibi - I think EH is pretending to have a sense of humor about her SNL portrayal. xoxox

  138. MiamiVision Says:

    susieq - i’m hoping that if EH’s contract is not renewed, she’ll have to downsize her entire life….we can hope now can’t we?

    off topic - but somewhat related - I just read that the govt is going after Ruth Madoff’s homes, cars, boats, and that $62 million that she has stashed away, oh and her Steinway piano. She lied - she said all that $$ her parents left her. Her parents left her under $2 million when they died.

    Personally, I hope they both are sent to jail for the rest of their lives. Nobody is going to let him out of jail on his appeal, because by June, when he is really sentenced, if he was out on bail, he’d just kill himself and probably along with Ruth. This is a man who cannot be in a tiny place like a jail cell. He will absolutely lose his mind, and I think he’s already lost it after 4 days in jail. He hurts so many people, the list is almost endless, and all over the world he did this. I read too he might have all his $$ stashed in Israel!

    ABC has the story, though not the Israel part.

    No, I didn’t invest with him nor do I know anyone who did except the famous. He turned out to be a skunk of the nth degree.

    JMHO

  139. Diane from N.J. Says:

    Worth Repeating:

    “I actually think the AIG bonuses are being paid as HUSH money.”

  140. susieq Says:

    Miami, I wonder if more “regular” people had lost their money with Madoff, would there be such an outrage and media coverage. A lot of times it seems like we only hear about things when rich or famous people are affected.

    Domestic violence is another topic that is covered widespread now because of CB and Rh. But what would the coverage have been if Chris Brown’s girlfriend wasn’t famous. Would we have even heard about it?

    When is the last time the View had on a regular, normal person. They used to do segments on people that weren’t famous but not anymore. I feel safe in saying most viewers would rather watch real life people who are making a difference than the latest reality show star.

  141. Aileen Says:

    #116 Kelly – ITA . Additionally, if the government did not bail out AIG, the contracts would become invalid. So maybe there is the loophole they are looking for.

    Meghan Mc is young and still has a lot to learn and experience. I don’t think this makes her moot, but she does represent a lot of young voters who are either swayed by their family values and maybe interjected with her own. It would be interesting to watch her and see where she goes with politics. She won’t really talk about Palin since she was her fathers running mate which tells me she doesn’t have anything nice to say. She already speaks out on Rush L and Ann Coulter the tranny mess so at least she sees the far far right as ridiculous which is refreshing and who has the guts to say it out loud. Without intentionally doing so, she is now making Laura Ingram look ridiculous and now the new goptart who just came out and spoke out against her is Michelle Malkin. Taking swipes in her blog. So far, Meghan is good politics for everyone.

    I’m just saying…

  142. MiamiVision Says:

    susieq: ITA! It was Tina and Ike who shed light on domestic violence, another famous couple. I think what I like about Ellen’s show is that she always has regular people and/or deals with regular people and I love her little games/contests on her show. Bonnie Hunt, another person who loves regular people!

    And it’s because both of these women ARE regular people, famous or not.

  143. MiamiVision Says:

    another regular person/type is Meredith Vieira! These women I mention just seem to NOT be so affected by *celebrity* and I appreciate THAT.

  144. Roger from Ohio Says:

    #130 Pepperbird–

    The Republicans and conservatives never see that long-term effect, preferring to enjoy their short-term gains instead, and looting what they can.

    But all of that is good Republican policy.

    Profits were increased…. money was made…. the stock market was booming…. everyone was making money. If people were hurting from it, well it was their fault…. they didnt reach out to get a piece of the pie.

    That is the difference between a Republican and a Democrat….. Republicans are pro profit….. Democrats are pro people.

  145. Pepperbird Says:

    Well said, Diane #134 and susieq #135.

    Despoiling of our resources–for example, drilling for oil and gas in our national parks–is another problem fueled by sheer greed. The respect and cooperation of other countries for America was squandered with Buah and Cheney’s wars too. And oil prices last summer were pumped up artificially for profit greed while oilmen (Bush) were in office. The consequent price collapse played into economic bumps and shock for many countries, and banking too.

    Everywhere we look around us, we see the fallout of these barbarians without ethics. It’s not a stretch to say that our very civilization and middle class could be at stake unless attitudes change.

  146. MiamiVision Says:

    Does everyone know that yesterday Cheney attacked Obama on National Security? Click on my name for confirmation of article and you will see FAKE PASSPORTS are alive (copy/pasted below) and well in the USA (obtaining fake passports) and this has been ongoing SINCE 2001! Talk about national security and attacking OBAMA???!?!?!?!??? Obama is cleaning out THEIR FREAKEN MESSES.

    I cannot believe how easy it is STILL to get a fake passport now in 2009! OMG

    The art of passport fakery is alive and well
    Investigator gets documents for dead man, boy

    By EILEEN SULLIVAN
    THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

    WASHINGTON — Using phony documents and the identities of a dead man and a 5-year-old boy, a government investigator obtained U.S. passports in a test of post- 9/11 security.

    Despite efforts to boost passport security since the 2001 terror attacks, the investigator fooled passport and postal service employees four out of four times, according to a new report made public Friday.

    The report by the Government Accountability Office, Congress’ investigative arm, details the ruses:

    One investigator used the Social Security number of a man who died in 1965, a fake New York birth certificate and a fake Florida driver’s license. He received a passport four days later.

    A second attempt had the investigator using a 5-year-old boy’s information but identifying himself as 53 years old on the passport application. He received that passport seven days later.

    In another test, an investigator used fake documents to get a genuine Washington, D.C., identification card, which he then used to apply for a passport. He received it the same day.

    A fourth investigator used a fake New York birth certificate and a fake West Virginia driver’s license and got the passport eight days later.

    Criminals and terrorists place a high value on illegally obtained travel documents, U.S. intelligence officials have said. Currently, poorly faked passports are sold on the black market for $300, while top-notch fakes go for about $5,000, according to Immigration and Customs Enforcement investigations.

    The State Department has known about this vulnerability for years. On Feb. 26, the State Department’s deputy assistant secretary of passport services issued a memo to Passport Services directors across the country stating that the agency is reviewing its processes for issuing passports because of “recent events regarding several passport applications that were approved and issued in error.”

    In the memo, obtained by The Associated Press, Brenda Sprague said that in 2009 passport services would focus on the quality, not the quantity, of its passport issuance decisions. Typically, passport services officials are evaluated on how many passports they issue. Instead, Sprague said, the specialists should focus all their efforts on improving the integrity of the process, including “a renewed emphasis for Passport Specialists on recognizing authentic documents and fraud indicators on applications.”

    Over the past seven years, U.S. officials have tried to increase passport security and make it more difficult to apply with fake documents.

    But these tests show the State Department — which processes applications and issues passports — does not have the ability to ensure that supporting documents are legitimate, said Janice Kephart, an expert on travel document security who worked on the 9/11 Commission report.

    Kephart said this is the same problem that enabled some of the 9/11 hijackers to use fake documents to get Virginia driver’s licenses, which they used to board airplanes. Since 2001, states have taken measures to make driver’s licenses more secure.

    State Department spokesman Richard Aker said the agency regrets that it issued these four passports.

    “The truth is that this was human error,” Aker said.

    He said the State Department plans to have facial recognition screening for all applicants in six months. The agency is also talking to states to see if passport officials can check states’ electronic databases to verify licenses and identification cards.

  147. susieq Says:

    Miami, I would even say Oprah comes across as a regular person. With all the money and fame she has she still tries to good in the world.

    Now the ladies of the View, well…Joy and Whoopi have both spoken of charities they are involved with. Sherri IIRC did a March of Dimes event. Barbara, yeah right. She’s such a famewhore if she did anything for charity I’m sure we would know about it. And getting dressed up to go to a fancy dinner with a bunch of other rich people doesn’t count. But Elisabeth, doesn’t seem to do anything that doesn’t involve reality TV, Republican politics or oh yeah, sometimes her kids. Oh, wait a minute, didn’t she read to kids at McDonalds or something? Maybe that was her way of supplying dinner that night for her family. Sorry, if I seem extra snarky tonight. For some reason EH just irked me more than usual today.

  148. MiamiVision Says:

    susieq - none of them on the panel come across to me has humble enough. ITA about BW and it’s getting worse as she ages, it’s not going to get better w/BW, they all have *chips* on their shoulders, the least one being Sherri (though I’m not a big fan of hers).

    EH just irks me period to the point I cannot watch the show, as y’all know and some times when I see clips, it’s painful. I like Lester’s blog because he isolates each clip and one can pick and choose what to see (though I don’t have enough time).

    I *heard* that The Big Plan (nothing to do with Obama folks) is to keep inundating the masses in the USA with more and more and more reality TV, and I see this as the dumbing down of America.

    I really today have little respect for any of them on The View….the fact they hush up because they want that juicy paycheck instead of challenging bullchyt - galls me the most…and especially with Joy and Whoopi. Whoopi was never a brown-noser and now she is a brown-noser - could her nose get any further up BW’s arse? Joy wants to shout it out but stifles herself (or been told to stifle by the penises - or is that penii) - running the show. Not that I have anything against penises *L* - only running anyone’s life is what I have against them.

    I divorced for FREEDOM! *snickers*

  149. MiamiVision Says:

    susieq - YES ON OW too! Very humble and nice and loves people….

  150. Pepperbird Says:

    Cheney has always scared the life out of me. When he was leaving office in his wheelchair, glowering with anger, I couldn’t look at him without shivering. He’s still trying to defend the torture he and Bush authorized, according to recent media interviews.

    I agree that passports need to be authentic and secure, but we always need to remember the threat that Big Brother politicians can assume if it goes too far. As Sec’y of State, Condi Rice pumped up the price big-time for passports, and started requiring them for formerly “open border” countries. I can understand the security concerns (for example, from Mexico since I am in the Southwest), but Condi’s changes also generated a big fat wave of money for the government from all the new passport revenue.

  151. Pepperbird Says:

    Susieq and Miamivision–I think Oprah could do a lot more with her money. Maybe she is keeping mosy of her charity private, but if you compare her financial resources to other celebrities, she doesn’t seem to be a real leader in my opinion. I think we’d hear about it if she was giving like she is able to give.

  152. susieq Says:

    I totally believe “they” are trying to dumb down America. Just look at the crap on TV anymore. My hubby and I watch movies most nights(gotta love NetFlix) because there just isn’t anything on to watch. And no matter how many reality shows the View pimps out to us I AIN’T WATCHING THEM and you can’t make me. I just read CBS is either going to cancel Cold Case or Without a Trace. They both get very good ratings but are too expensive to produce. I shudder to think what they’ll replace them with.

    Also this is a quote from Whoopi in the new TV Guide.

    “I love it, because it’s a great group of strong women with strong voices and strong opinions.”

    If you substitute “catty” for the first “strong”, “overlapping” for the second “strong” and “predictable” for the third “strong” I believe her.

  153. susieq Says:

    Pepperbird, Cheney is even more despicable than Bush, and that’s saying something. I honestly believe Cheney’s motivation for everything that happened over the past eight years was GREED. I think Bush was greedy too but I also think he thought he could change the world to his liking.

    That to me is a clear difference between Republicans and Democratics. Reps always seem to want you to live your life to suit them and Dems want you to live your life to suit yourself. Also Reps are all about telling you what you can’t do and Dems are all about helping you do what you want to do. Now I know these are broad generalizations but it’s how I see the differences. So in other words it’s my VIEW.

  154. MiamiVision Says:

    Pepperbird: Me too, Cheney scared me and I felt he WAS the president, behind closed doors.

    So, regarding the passports, we are damned if we do and damned if we don’t. My father was a victim of a caregiver from a subcontracted agency for one day who got to this country on a bogus passport from Jamaica, so this is a very sensitive subject for me.

    Additionally, I live by Port Everglades (Ft. Lauderdale Airport) which houses all the gasoline for several airports in the south half of Florida. The chain link gates there have cuttings and easy access for over a decade or longer to get in there, they never fixed/repaired the chain link fences. Something happens there at Port Everglades and one can kiss the southern half of Florida goodbye! The area I’m talking about isn’t 5 miles from where Mohammed Atta was hanging out just prior to 9/11. I don’t feel any more secure than I did on 9/10/2001, and as a matter of fact, I feel less secure all these years.

    All this is JMHO.

  155. Pepperbird Says:

    ITA #153 susieq. I wish Cheney would stay in his musty lair and not slither out to do media interviews.

    At least Laura has Dubya on a proper leash now. He was buying batteries in a local Dallas hardware store the other day, and told the other customers that she had sent him there.

  156. MiamiVision Says:

    susieq said: Also this is a quote from Whoopi in the new TV Guide.

    “I love it, because it’s a great group of strong women with strong voices and strong opinions.”

    If you substitute “catty” for the first “strong”, “overlapping” for the second “strong” and “predictable” for the third “strong” I believe her.

    ————-

    RIGHT ON TARGET!!!

  157. Pepperbird Says:

    ITA #156. I think Whoopi’s just so intimidated by BW and the Disney suits that she has to be pc when she thinks they are listening.

    I don’t know why, since she must have more money than God by now.

  158. MiamiVision Says:

    pepperbird: I agree w/you on OW and giving more….in THIS country! She did open that school in Africa, a good thing, but I wish it had been in Darfur. She doesn’t do enough for THIS country, I think.

    OMG - he’s underfoot, gotta feel for Laura. Say, was that the hardware store that offered him a job (when he left office) as a greeter? Having a man home 24/7/365 might just drive Laura nuts! Poor dear. She’ll have to up her meds. *smirk*

  159. susieq Says:

    Well Pepperbird, at least he’s spending his time harmlessly. I could make a joke about why Laura would need him to buy batteries, but that’s like shooting fish in a barrel. And since Cheney was the shooter in that duo, I’ll leave it alone.

    Miami, if you ask me, the reason we haven’t been attacked since 9/11 is because the terrorists just haven’t attacked us. I think it is because of their INACTION not our ACTIONS. And also, the terrorists can sit back and watch our economy collapse and watch that do more damage than any attack by them could do. Less people die but more people are affected. And I’m not sure deaths are what terrorists are necessarily trying to achieve, isn’t disruption to our everyday lives, you know chaos, their endgame?

  160. MiamiVision Says:

    ROFLMBO….Susieq…HAHAHAHAHA (batteries)

    Oh I think you’re not off-base on that, lack of their action! Meanwhile before Bhutto was assassinated, she said Bin Laden was murdered! I believed her then and still believe her now.

    There are many look-a-likes - Remember Saddam had like 40 men who looked like him - that he used as decoys and in other positions of govt, or being seen, public relations.

  161. MiamiVision Says:

    gotta go, folks - it’s been nice (and real) -keep on keepin’ on. *S* CYA later!

  162. susieq Says:

    You know Miami, my hubby and I watched the movie Dave last night with Kevin Kline. I’m pretty sure our own government has lookalikes to fill in for our leaders.

    Oh, speaking of Oprah, she had Valentino on as a guest today. And she had the “lion guys” on Friday. It seems the View is getting Oprah’s reheated leftovers.

  163. MiamiVision Says:

    that may be true susieq but I have seen videos of Bin Laden that were not him over the years now…and I have no knowledge of this in the USA…all this stuff is usually googleable. I am going to check it out.

    I will see Oprah at 1:30 a.m. repeated, as it comes on at 4 p.m. and I’m working at that time.

    CYA later! *S*

  164. Elsie Says:

    What does ’strong’ mean? It seems that every woman on TV is ’strong’. Strong woman this, strong woman that, geez. Also, everyone says ‘at the end of the day’. The newest now is ‘throwing someone under the bus’.

  165. kellyjo Says:

    Oh, believe me, meows, you people have got the word “catty” all wrapped up in a bow here. I can hardly believe what I am reading. I would have to quote so many #’s to get my point across–I can’t do it.

    C’mon for heaven sake, be grown women. I’m saddened that the people who watch the view can be so mean spirited. Saddened for women, that is.

  166. Kelly Says:

    Pepperbird says: “In your opinion, did the Dems get control in the nick of time, or is it too late?”

    Sorry I missed this earlier.

    Yes. I think the Dems got control in the nick of time, and I mean by the skin on their teeth. We will recover – but it will take time. And some losses will never be recovered, but the lessons learned will be invaluable to newer generations.

    Thomas Jefferson said: “God forbid we should ever be 20 years without such a rebellion.” He believed that every 20 years, a revolt is necessary to safeguard the democracy.

    1920s – Roaring Twenties: End of WWI, Wall Street Crash, Great Depression
    1940s – WWII and the Cold War
    1960s – Kennedy and King assassinations. Vietnam
    1980s – Reagan and the Iran-Iraq War (no revolt)
    2000s – Bush steals 2 elections: enter mass govt corruption/Iraq War followed by citizen revolt – Obama elected

    Every 20 years.

    Next revolt – circa 2020

  167. Kelly Says:

    Thanks for the info MiamiV:

    What’s most alarming to me is Cheney is out there promising an attack on US soil because of Obama’s policies (you know, no torturing, no spying on US journalists or innocent civilians, no executive assassination rings, no FEMA camps, no rigging of elections).

    I think Cheney knows something we don’t.

    I expect an attack – and I expect that the US tax payer financed it.

    The Republicans will do anything to regain power – and continue their assault on Americans – and whoever else gets in their way.

    Cheney is the devil.

  168. southernexplosion Says:

    If there do be and Attack the conspiracy theory will go up and i will believe them. Because if a man going around saying we going to be attack . What else could you believe, If the president did not come out and say we should be worry all of a sudden we attack by someone i will believe Chaney had something to do with it.

  169. southernexplosion Says:

    LOL Be careful Kelly they’re watching us.

  170. kellyjo Says:

    #67 Kelly, a little absurd, don’t you think? You are the scary one–yikes–do you actually wish this??? You actually expect an attack? Hoping and praying you are WRONG, girlfriend.

    #68 If there do be and attack…..did you go to a Detroit school, of which the prez wants to throw $540M into that school system where the graduation rate is 35%???

  171. Aileen Says:

    #170 Kellyjo.. strike my support of your earlier comment.

    I’m just saying..

  172. Roger from Ohio Says:

    #170 kellyjo–

    #67 Kelly, a little absurd, don’t you think? You are the scary one–yikes–do you actually wish this??? You actually expect an attack? Hoping and praying you are WRONG, girlfriend.

    Kelly didnt say that she thought there was gonna be an attack…. Dick Cheney did…. What Kelly is saying… it is clear to me….. that since Cheney is predicting an attack…. the man that just left office…… If he thinks that there will be an attack, he has inside info…. If he is “warning us” does he know something that the rest of us dont? Is he going to have personal knowledge of the “up coming” attack?….. Will “his people” help to fund this attack?

    Cheney has been a dangerous man for a long time…. he made himself VP and took as much power that he could….. and now he is predicting another attack.

    You have to read the whole post kellyjo…. not just bits and pieces.

  173. gonnavent Says:

    Kellyjo,

    “…did you go to a Detroit school, of which the prez wants to throw $540M into that school system where the graduation rate is 35%???”

    Did it ever cross you mind that money may be going to schools with such stats to improve said schools? To actually give it the resources it needs so they can increase their graduation rate…With your logic, only schools that are already well funded and, thus have higher graduation rates, would get funds - thus furthering the class divide.

  174. MiamiVision Says:

    Kelly - Cheney knows TONS that we don’t know! (Devil is too cute a word for him, IMO too. SATAN comes to mind!) - I expect something too and probably by the repugs to regain power, like you say.

    They are livid that Obama is so well liked and that people want to give him a huge chance (it’s only been 2 months so far) to help this country and I’m sure he will. The GOP party, like The View, is dying out. I don’t think many of them want Limbaugh as their leader either! And the repugs who jumped ship and voted for Obama…are thankful they did, so far, from all I read.

    Eyes wide open to nonbelievers is all I have to say….and continue reading as much as possible! The info is all *out there*!

  175. Kelly Says:

    LOL- I smell a troll.

    The “ladies” of the View ARE catty. Even when they aren’t outright criticizing people (usually women) they are talking about people who are criticizing people. It’s their way of trying to “stay above it all”.
    And Elisabeth’s remarks about Michelle Obama were soooo catty I’m surprised she didn’t show her claws while saying them. And it’s not just her, Joy, Whoopi, Sherri, and especially Barbara have all meowed.

    kellyjo - I hope you get to read this. I had to comment about yesterday and your attempts to be heard and to offer you some support. Don’t waste your time. This site is has been coopted from commenting on the View to a forum to engage the lowest of social commentary. I think you were attempting to raise consciousness to the usual posters on this site, i.e. that what you accuse the View of being and doing (especially related to comments about Elisabeth), this site duplicates to a pathological overdrive. Winnie had a great idea but she lost control and it now belongs to the regulars who profess to be open minded and compassionateand very clever and smart. THEY chose to shoo away the Trolls and others who dare to redirect the conversation or to question the blogspeak. Kellyjo the irony that this site replicates what they criticize about the view is lost. Is it not a little pecular that a group of adults would spin their entire day around a tv talk show that they have begun to hate? The posters often begin before the show starts with their prognostications about how they anticipate the show will be (how many times Elisabeth will scratch, what she will look like, etc.) and the comments often go through the night and into the next day. Not much else going on in your worlds? The site was supposed to be fun and enlightening but sorry Winnie, outsiders BEWARE…

  181. Kelly Says:

    There are those on this site who choose to focus their remarks on public personalities – and then there are those who choose to direct their remarks at other posters. Therein lies the difference.

    Thanks for the lol mibi.
    #10 susieq says: “McCain seemed to be ignoring the economic problems. Obama wants to instill confidence in the economy.”

    Pinpoint precision. ITA
    “If we keep talking about the economic crisis, we’re going to lose.” – McCain aide.

    From HuffPo peacekitten:

    a periodic injection of FACTS, if i may:

    1. AIG did NOT inform the treasury prior to negotiating their bailout of the existence of these bonus contracts.

    2. what we own is nearly 80% (actually just a little less for the sake of bookkeeping purposes) of NON-VOTING stock in AIG. that means we have no control over their board, we cannot influence or change company resolutions despite the size of our stake in the corporation. the issuance of NON-VOTING stock is fairly irregular, because of the disadvantages. it was done so as NOT to dilute the power of those originally in control, courtesy bush and paulson.

    3. had glass-steagall not been repealed, this would NEVER have happened. the INSURANCE arm of AIG is in fact financially very healthy. under glass-steagall, an insurance company could not go into the investment banking industry, but that’s the problem here. it’s the financial products division that’s nearly sunk the company.

    4. the CDS originated in the london office, the base of their investment banking operations. about a decade ago, the british had the chance to put the lid on this kind of exotic trading once before when a rogue derivatives trader took down barings bank in exactly the same way. apparently they didn’t learn much because the same kinds of trades are still legal, and what we’re on the hook for right now.. most of this bonus money is supposed to go to the financial services division.

    5. the reason we don’t have any real power over this situation can be laid squarely at the feet of the republican party. every provision for oversight had to be removed before they would even entertain the idea of giving the three votes needed in the senate to pass the bailout. one of those votes was needed because the republican national committee is spending hundreds of thousands of dollars to perpetuate norm coleman’s futile bid to hold on to the senate seat the people of minnesota decided to give to al franken. the republicans’ only interest is to keep franken out of congress as long as possible, and they have stated as much.

    the way to do battle over this is going to be through congressional regulation and strict enforcement, starting as soon as possible. ((clink))

  182. Vickie Says:

    Kelly: “…There are those on this site who choose to focus their remarks on public personalities – and then there are those who choose to direct their remarks at other posters. Therein lies the difference. ”

    Just saying that does not necessarily make it true. The point is, again, being lost. But the post was in support of kelljo, she can chose where she will spend her energies.

  183. Kelly Says:

    You’re trying to force a square peg through a round hole.

    There is nothing peculiar about concerned women connecting on a community board. Women who are mothers, students, daughters and wives, struggling through the crises Bush left behind, looking for an outlet to express themselves.

    There is nothing peculiar about curious minded adults watching a show that has become a macrocosm of today’s political debate and pop culture decay. Within The View are America’s ugliest neurosis, false political arguments, covert obstructionism and the occasional injection of truth via Joy or Whoopi.

    The only people who need to make an apology are the self-professed exiled trolls who keep returning to insult the host and her guests.

  184. Vickie Says:

    #175 Kelly said, “…LOL- I smell a troll.” And what public personality were you commenting on?

  185. Kelly Says:

    And you should know by now – I don’t like people insulting the posters. They may be catty – but they’re OUR catty posters.

    Kellyjo says:

    1. “Weren’t they talking about women attacking women? Why are so many of you carrying it a little too far?”
    2. “Oh, believe me, meows, you people have got the word “catty” all wrapped up in a bow here. I can hardly believe what I am reading. I would have to quote so many #’s to get my point across–I can’t do it.
    C’mon for heaven sake, be grown women. I’m saddened that the people who watch the view can be so mean spirited. Saddened for women, that is.”
    3. “#67 Kelly, a little absurd, don’t you think? You are the scary one–yikes–do you actually wish this??? You actually expect an attack? Hoping and praying you are WRONG, girlfriend.
    #68 If there do be and attack…..did you go to a Detroit school, of which the prez wants to throw $540M into that school system where the graduation rate is 35%???”

    THREE comments; FOUR personal attacks.

    I guess that makes it true.

  186. berndoubt Says:

    People come here to discuss what they like and don’t like about The View. Issues raised on the show are also topics for discussion. There is no pathology in finding other people with common interests for a discussion.

    “Not much else going on in your worlds?” We’re here discussing a small part of what’s going on in our worlds with other posters. I’d rather do that then go around trying to pick fights. Although, in honor of St. Patrick’s Day and my people back on the old sod, I could throw down today, even without a belly full of beer.

  187. Diane from N.J. Says:

    ‘Kelly’s’ (our own dear OH-Kelly) excellent #181 post mentions “Glass-Steagall”.
    So I had to educate myself on what this was.

    LO AND BEHOLD -

    “In 1933, in the wake of the 1929 stock market crash and during a nationwide commercial bank failure and the Great Depression, two members of Congress put their names on what is known today as the GLASS-STEAGALL ACT (GSA). This act separated investment and commercial banking activities. At the time, “improper banking activity”, or what was considered overzealous commercial bank involvement in stock market investment, was deemed the main culprit of the financial crash. According to that reasoning, commercial banks took on too much risk with depositors’ money. Additional and sometimes non-related explanations for the Great Depression evolved over the years, and many questioned whether the GSA hindered the establishment of financial services firms that can equally compete against each other. We will take a look at why the GSA was established and what led to its final repeal in 1999.”

    MORE LO AND BEHOLD -

    “The GRAMM*-LEACH-BLILEY ACT also known as the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Financial Services Modernization Act, enacted November 12, 1999, is an Act of the United States Congress which repealed part of the Glass-Steagall Act of 1933, opening up competition among banks, securities companies and insurance companies. The Glass-Steagall Act prohibited a bank from offering investment, commercial banking, and insurance services.

    The GRAMM-LEACH-BLILEY Act (GLBA) allowed commercial and investment banks to consolidate. For example, Citibank merged with Travelers Group, an insurance company, and in 1998 formed the conglomerate Citigroup, a corporation combining banking and insurance underwriting services under brands including Smith-Barney, Shearson, Primerica and Travelers Insurance Corporation. This combination, announced in 1993 and finalized in 1994, WOULD HAVE VIOLATED the Glass-Steagall Act and the Bank Holding Company Act by combining insurance and securities companies, if not for a temporary waiver process [1]. The law was passed to legalize these mergers on a permanent basis. Historically, the combined industry has been known as the financial services industry.”

    FINAL LO AND BEHOLD -

    “Gramm’ is Former Senator Phil Gramm (R-Tx). You may recall that he was John McCain’s Sr. Economic Advisor for about 5 minutes last year, until he stuck his foot in mouth and said: “…we have become a nation of whiners, reagrding the economic probems.

    AND LASTLY -

    SEN. PHIL GRAMM was being touted as the future SECRETARY OF THE TREASURY had McCain been elected. SHUDDER

  188. Vickie Says:

    Kelly “…And you should know by now – I don’t like people insulting the posters. They may be catty – but they’re OUR catty posters. ”

    I think that makes the point perfectly. Insulting the insulters because they are insulting OUR catty posters. I think the site is semi-public and “our” posters do not own the right to an opinion. Like you, my hairs get crossed. When I see someone who is new to the site or seldom posts get slammed, I feel the need to defend them. I wish you (collective you)could give them a chance to learn how to participate on this site, to learn the way to get a point across without making others defensive. People sometimes need to learn how to become correctly articulate in a forum like this. That is what aggrivates me and I jump on my white horse to defend their right to post.

  189. Diane from N.J. Says:

    So apparently there’s enough interesting discussion here to keep you coming back….

  190. berndoubt Says:

    What does it mean to be “correctly articulate”? And take off your cape and let the horse get a drink of water, nobody here needs defending. We are all putting our opinions out there. We’re all free to do so. We are also free to disagree. I ignored a post from kellyjo that I thought was offensive, about Detroit schools. Would it have been correctly articulate to say that I didn’t care for her remark or better to just ignore it? I didn’t “attack” her for her opinion. Perhaps I should have.

  191. mibi Says:

    Vik

    Diane from N.J. Says: ” So apparently there’s enough interesting discussion here to keep you coming back….”

    MY RESPONSE: LOL, so true.

    Thanks for the info Diane (post #187).
    Very interesting.

  195. Vickie Says:

    berndoubt -”…What does it mean to be “correctly articulate”? ” Using my own experience as an example, I have not been as clear in my writing as some of you (that’s a compliment). There is a skill to writing in a shortened forum and with the emotion up for a reader’s interpretation (I personally despise the little smiley faces and will never use them - my disadvantage).For that reason, sometimes raising an alternative way to look at things or asking an unpopular question has gotten me into trouble (with name calling, I might add). So when someone is attempting to bring their question to the site, it is seen as fighting or insulting when I don’t always think it is; instead, it may be clumsy phasing. It shuts out broader dialog and expanded viewpoints.

  196. Vickie Says:

    Diane from NJ and Stacee..”So apparently there’s enough interesting discussion here to keep you coming back….”

    My response: You are so right! There is always interesting discussion here, that has never been in question.

  197. Kelly Says:

    lololol

    mibi is on a roll…catty b*tches….lol

  198. berndoubt Says:

    Let’s drop the pretense that there has only been name-calling by a select group of people. It has been done by everyone in this particular conversation, my own sweet self included.

    I will speak for myself only, not because I don’t think what I’m about to say is true for most posters, but because it is only fair. Bringing a new opinion is not what has caused me to be upset. I enjoy hearing differing opinions. I don’t much care for the mud-slinging, but I’m not above flinging some, if that’s what’s happenin’.

    The beauty of language is that it is precise, when used correctly. If you can’t be precise, try being more detailed and explaining your point. There is then less chance that you will be misunderstood.

  199. Stacee Says:

    Vickie Says: “My response: You are so right! There is always interesting discussion here, that has never been in question.”

    MY RESPONSE: So, so true, Vickie!!! Always interesting….

  200. Roger from Ohio Says:

    When I see someone who is new to the site or seldom posts get slammed, I feel the need to defend them. I wish you (collective you)could give them a chance to learn how to participate on this site, to learn the way to get a point across without making others defensive.

    I agree with you on this point vickie. kellyjo was right about the cattiness on this site… but kellyjo took it one step further and wrongly accused kelly of “wanting a terrorist attack”
    Anyone is welcome here, they can have any opinion they want, what isnt appreciated here is “incorrect truth” and personal attacks. personally, hypocrisy and disrespect are 2 things that bug me.

    Kellyjo said there was too many “women attacking women” and to make her point…. she started attacking women.

  201. Stacee Says:

    Vickie Says: “I wish you (collective you)could give them a chance to learn how to participate on this site, to learn the way to get a point across without making others defensive.”

    MY REPONSE: But according to you, Vickie, the site “has been coopted from commenting on the View to a forum to engage the lowest of social commentary” and “this site duplicates to a pathological overdrive”. And after riding in on the white horse, bashing the site, and in the process the people that post here, you feign concern and want people to learn how to participate on the site - the same site that you just bashed and said “don’t waste your time”?

    Roger made a great pont above; kellyjo spoke about women attacking women, yet specifically targetted Kelly. Girl power?

  202. Kelly Says:

    Blarney – here I go taking the bait.

    KellyJo came on board to a very warm welcome. She was given advice, brownies, wine (her preference) and feedback on her posts. I’d say she got the warmest welcome of any newbie.

    Yesterday – she decided to attack posters (myself included – which I ignored) because she didn’t agree with their politics. She didn’t really care about the name-calling IMO – she just didn’t have an argument to stand on – so on with the personal attacks. Posters overlooked her first two insults.

    Her final attack was on southernexplosion and completely uncalled for, and people finally called her out on it: “If there do be and attack…..did you go to a Detroit school, of which the prez wants to throw $540M into that school system where the graduation rate is 35%???”

    How might kellyjo have “correctly articulated” that comment?

    No one responded to her insults against them personally – people responded in defense of southernexplosion.

  203. Stacee Says:

    Ahhhh, thanks for explaining, Kelly.

  204. marilyn Says:

    I thought she meant that this blog was very “HARD” on The View. I think some Lurkers would agree.

    I also feel that blogs, can not express body language, a tone in the voice, and several other expressions, that are part of vocal conversation. The reader interprets the sentences, with their own judgements and thoughts.IMO

  205. Kelly Says:

    You make excellent points Stacee and Roger. I posted my remarks before seeing yours. ITA

    Okay – here comes Gary Sinise. Will he or won’t he claim EH?

  206. Stacee Says:

    Laura Ingram recently called Meghan McCain a “useful idiot”.
    She makes reference to Meghan being plus sized and uses a Valley Girl voice to mock her, and it’s “the left’s” fault. Wow.

  207. susieq Says:

    Geez I leave the house for a couple hours and wow, and now I’m reading posts saying we’ve become unruly children that Winnie can’t control? Yeah right.

    IIRC Winnie had to shut down the offtopic thread because of what appeared to be very disagreeable posters trying start flamewars with our regular posters. One particular poster even used a racist term to comment on Obama’s Inauguration. Everyone is welcome here, they can have any opinion they want, just as we can.

    And I 100% stand by my post that the women on the View are catty. I’m surprised they don’t all have a bowl of milk in front of them.

  208. berndoubt Says:

    No, susieq, it’s all us. We’re narcissists. I just found that out from Dr. Drew Pinsky.

  209. Elsie Says:

    Re. above comments: oh,no! I’ve been to other site, and the comments that are posted are vicious, obscene, and vulgar. Here, it seems to me, we like to have fun. Some posters have gotten to know each other. Yes, sometime there is more comments on the comments than on the actual recap. At first, I took offense to a comment someone made about my comment. Something to the effect that the ladies act different when someone ‘hotter’ than them is on the show. I was called upon it, or rather questioned about it. I took it hard, but Winnie brought me back to my senses. That poster was in her right to comment. This was last year b4 SS and WG. So, let’s get along.

  210. kellyjo Says:

    Ok, I’m sorry. I get so defensive when I read things that are stated as such fact when, in reality, they are the personal ideas of a person and I strongly disagree.

    I didn’t mean to attack. On other sites, you can say whatever, so I’m sorry, I should have known, but didn’t.

    Thanks Vickie–you sound like a level headed person.

  211. Aileen Says:

    Taking out gun from toilet tank,

    Loading,

    Cocking it,

    Raising to my temple,

    BLAST!!!!

    Phew I feel better,

    I’m just saying….

    p.s. Mibi and Bernie you guys crack me up but now that I am dead I will no longer be able to read your posts and cackle..

    I’m just saying again…

  212. berndoubt Says:

    Quit sayin’ and start applyin’ pressure! I’ll miss ya!

  213. Stacee Says:

    HUGS to Elsie.

  214. Elsie Says:

    Aww! Thanx! xoxo!

  215. Aileen Says:

    lmaoooooo bernie… how much blood does one have? The carpet is a mess and I am out of paper towels..

  216. susieq Says:

    Aileen, you keep the gun in the toilet? Is that so if you miss and pee your pants you’ll be in the right room?

    Oh, and if you’re not dead yet, I think gin or vodka, or whatever you have on hand would be good for cleaning the wound. Now if it leaves a scar maybe Elisabeth will let you borrow one of Grace’s bows to cover it up.

  217. Kelly Says:

    HuffPo:
    • The top recipient received more than $6.4 million;
    • The top seven bonus recipients received more than $4 million each;
    • The top ten bonus recipients received a combined $42 million;
    • 22 individuals received bonuses of $2 million or more, and combined they received more than $72 million;
    • 73 individuals received bonuses of $1 million or more; and
    • Eleven of the individuals who received “retention” bonuses of $1 million or more are NO LONGER working at AIG, including one who received $4.6 million.

    Again, these payments were all made to individuals in the subsidiary whose performance LED TO crushing losses and the near failure of AIG. Thus, last week, AIG made more than 73 millionaires in the unit which lost so much money that it brought the firm to its knees, forcing taxpayer bailout. Something is deeply wrong with this outcome.

    “Behind every great fortune there is a great crime.”

    While we worry about layoffs and home payments, these newly minted millionaires walked off with our tax dollars – the VERY men who brought about the collapse of Wall Street and your life savings.

  218. Kelly Says:

    Hank Greenberg Blames Paulson for AIG Collapse

    March 9, 2009 (LPAC)–Maurice Hank Greenberg, the deposed CEO of AIG, accused Hank Paulson of turning over the US Treasury to his former employer Goldman Sachs, and others of his Wall Street and City of London cohorts, at the expense of letting AIG itself collapse.

    As reported in yesterday’s briefing, Rupert Murdoch’s Wall Street Journal confirmed the widely-held suspicion that the $180 billion in taxpayer bailouts to AIG were being passed on to Goldman, DeutscheBank and others. So the Financial Times held a video interview with Hank Greenberg, the man who built AIG into one of the biggest derivative machines in the world, only to be ousted in 2005 for cooking the books, and is now suing his old firm over several issues.

    Greenbeg told the FT that the first $30 billion Treasury bailout of AIG last November was paid out not to AIG, but directly to Goldman, Deutschebank, and so on. “Christmas came early for many of them,” said Greenberg.
