The View March 27th, 2009 Recap: Susan Sarandon, Geoffrey Rush, and Carol Leifer
Winnie McCarthy will not be posting this week on Watching the View. Today’s guest poster is Aileen. You can visit her own website at I’m Just Saying. The content of this recap represents the thoughts and feelings of the individual writer and not necessarily that of Winnie McCarthy.
Today’s scheduled guests are Susan Sarandon and Geoffrey Rush (Broadway’s Exit the King); Carol Leifer.
Sorry for the late post peeps, I am up to my eye teeth in diapers and peanut butter and jelly. I considered telling my daughter that I can’t baby sit since I have to guest post today but thought she would hire a lawyer and get conservertorship on me for lunacy.
Since the show is taped, Whoops is still sick and Barbara is moderating.
Barbara starts off with woman who are straight and becomes gay over 40 years of age. She read this in Oprah’s magazine so it must be true.
Joy thinks woman have just been faking it for so many years and they finally got the noive to do what they wanted to do originally.
Now Sherry likes men and made it quite clear… again.. Sherry like’s men. One more time… Sherry likes men….
Barbara seems to think woman are more affectionate then men. Uh Barb.. maybe its you and not them and I would feel better if they stopped this conversation. I am starting to think that Barb is an ice queen and thinks maybe woman are sweeter and softer and I feel yucky.
Joy seems to think that men know who they are at a much earlier age since they walk around with “Heated Missiles”. She tried to get 2 unsuspecting men in the audience to agree with her a nd they just stared at her.
Elizabeth is talking about a website where mom’s blog in the most desperate feelings. Sherry mentions that she loved when Jeffrey said mommy for the first time and now she just wants to stuff a sock in his mouth. I have said a thousand times, MY NAME IS NOT MOMMY!!! I tried telling them they were adopted but I can’t shake them.
Barbara told the story again about Jeffrey wondering in her dressing room looking for his mommy and took her hand. Is she trying to tell us something or does she have oldtimers and forgets that she told this story already this week. Wait it’s taped, this could be the first or second time she told this story. I dunno.
Barbara is now talking about James Gandolphini talking about kids wrecking your life and not having brats late in age before your body becomes ridden with old age. Ok, I said it first and he stole my line. My life and body is now wrecked and am always referred as someone’s mom and not Aileen the magnificent. Joy thinks having a kid is necessary and is like having a third leg? Someone explain that one to me. One kid brings on unnecessary furniture in the living room, boundless toys you step, endless feeding and diapers, pukey smelling shirts, speaking in tongues and bad hair days.
Joy has romantic love but won’t talk about because it’s not funny. Bitsy says if she digs a hole, Tim likes it and its somehow romantic. I have all kinds of evil things in my mind and I am trying to respect Winnie here.&nb sp;
More sex talk from the ladies and I am going to barf. Not worthy of recapping.
Susan Sarandon and Geoffrey Rush are guests from “Exit The King” and dressed in regal attire. Joy asked Susan if she will become a lesbian now. Geoffrey says he might become a queen. It’s hard to not notice their long trains of their regal robes spilling down the stage. Geoffrey looks like he has the burger king crown and now I am hungry.
Ok now they talk about how great they are as actors, blah blah. Movies, broadway etc. I wan’ t dirt and I am not getting any. Susan won an Oscar and the following year actually presented an Oscar to Geoffrey. They also performed together in the Banger Sisters. This week is truly a 6 degrees of separation week.
Joy asked Geoffrey if he has licked himself yet since his face is now on an Australian stamp. Geoffrey prefers others to lick him instead. I myself prefer to be licked than be the lickee.
Doctor Gadget is presenting the Best in Electronics and am glad the Mr. Man is not home. He is a techy nerd and my electricity bill is outrageous. We buy 100 batteries a week and even the grandbabies know how to insert batteries.
Ok I missed the first item but it appears you can locate your lying ass kids and tell them to get home. Next item is a DVD TV combo. Perfect for the kitchen? Who watches TV in the kitchen? That would assume I am cooking for forgettaboutit.
The next item is a shredder that can even shred staples and DVD’s. What I always wanted. Until you can insert kids and men, I aint buying it.
Next gadget is a pen that records what you hear and write. This sounds too techy for me and have no idea why I need this item and it appears the ladies don’t know either.
Now we got something I want. A Sing Stand! This item was made for me. It’s a microphone where you can place an IPOD in it.
I can scream… DINNER!!!! CLEAN YOUR ROOMS!!!! GET THE HELL OUT OF MY HOUSE!!!!!
Now we got Carol Leifer, an author whose book title is too long to remember. I still don’t know what they are talking about. She is 52 and that is all I know. She thinks she is smarter now than in her 30’s and thinks it should be talked about. Ok, I was smarter when I was younger since as I get older the kids suck the life out of my brain and my waistline only gets bigger. I want to be 30 again. I still have no idea what the heck she is talking about. OMG, this woman also decided to bat for the other team as she got older. What is up with this? Maybe I should switch but Carol said being with a woman is like being on The View 24 x 7 and that is a horrible thought. I keep thinking of having an affair with suzq, Bernie but girls, I can only handle you so much. If I had an affair with Kelly, I would be peppered with facts and concise arguments that I would shoot myself quickly. So I have decided not to become a lesbian consciously.
I’m just saying…
- Aileen

Dr. Gadget???? OH! NO!
March 27th, 2009 at 9:04 am
OK, I know Barbara meant it as a segue but her telling Sherri women are going to come after her, was stupid. A lot of religous people, like Sherri, believe gay people are predatory.
March 27th, 2009 at 9:06 am
Why are they discussing this? I’m not even gay and I’m offended by them analyzing this.
March 27th, 2009 at 9:06 am
Joy is right. People don’t TURN homosexual. There was denial to begin with and now these women feel free to express their true feelings. Barbara is an idiot. It’s not an intimacy thing. Elisabeth is an idiot. It’s not hormonal. Sherri learn to protect yourself and you won’t have to rely on cheaters.
March 27th, 2009 at 9:10 am
What if there was a study that said older women are now dating outside their race more. Would they analyze that? I don’t think so.
March 27th, 2009 at 9:11 am
Someone wrote an article so that means it becomes fact…. no one other than Joy read it, so instead of researching (or having someone research for them) they just speculate about what might be true.
On a side note… it sounded like Elisabeth was “looking forward” to her 40s so she could switch teams herself.
March 27th, 2009 at 9:14 am
Instead of speculating, how about they wait for Carol Leifer to come out (pun intended) and ask her.
Yes, they do manage to make their opinions awfully offensive (emphasis on the awful).
Joy is right. Women aren’t as driven to express their sexuality (in general), so it takes longer to push back against society’s “norms”. It is more acceptable now to be gay or lesbian, so it’s easier to come out.
March 27th, 2009 at 9:18 am
Roger, between yesterday and today, Elisabeth is making it clear that she is just biding her time until 40.
Every time Elisabeth folds something or digs a hole, she is telling Tim that she loves him in his language. She every time she folds up her morals and digs a deeper hole in an argument gone wrong, she’s not just being an idiot, she’s secretly telling Tim that she loves him. Everybody say, “Awwww!”
March 27th, 2009 at 9:22 am
Joy ‘read’ it or a producer watched Oprah yesterday. Gonna be catty - but EliSabeth looks like hell - this pregnancy seems to have run over her…
March 27th, 2009 at 9:22 am
What did Barbara say that Elisabeth doesn’t know how to do? I missed it while I was trying to make my computer work.
March 27th, 2009 at 9:24 am
Im gonna get me one of those robes…. I DESERVE ONE!!
March 27th, 2009 at 9:26 am
Bern, she said Elisabeth needed to learn what makes a woman pregnant. Yeah I know, lame.
March 27th, 2009 at 9:30 am
I love Susan Sarandon and damn does she look good.
March 27th, 2009 at 9:32 am
#12, doesn’t Elisabeth need to learn what makes a woman insufferable?
March 27th, 2009 at 9:34 am
Isnt Joy just great!!
“Geoffrey Rush, now that you are on an Australian stamp….. have you licked yourself yet?”
His response….. Im waiting for others to do it for me.
what a gal…. Im glad she wants me
March 27th, 2009 at 9:36 am
Susan/Geoffrey interview - could anyone from the view shut the f up and let them speak!!??
LOL, hormones changed, now I’m gay.
Does E ever mention her son?
March 27th, 2009 at 9:38 am
#11, I can picture you in the robe.
#16, my hormones just changed and now I’m a gay man! Wait, I’m a straight woman again. Oh crap, I’m bisexual now! I just don’t have time for this today!
March 27th, 2009 at 9:39 am
Oh, isn’t that great! Now we can spy on everyone in our lives that we claim to love instead of trusting them! Yeah!
I wonder if the audience will get each item after they tease them about whether they are giving them out or not??????????????
March 27th, 2009 at 9:41 am
The hot topics weren’t.
March 27th, 2009 at 9:43 am
Did Mr. Gadget just say “explanation point”?
Karaoke was embarrassing! Elisabeth is sassy.
March 27th, 2009 at 9:43 am
I see why these people WATCH American Idol…. because they SUCK at singing.
March 27th, 2009 at 9:44 am
“#12, doesn’t Elisabeth need to learn what makes a woman insufferable?”
All she has to do is look in the mirror.
So now Elisabeth is suggesting we lowjack our husbands. I wonder if she would approve of Tim tracking her every move.
OK EH and SS are “singing” I Will Survive. EH a Stepford Wife and SS who is constantly saying a man makes her feel safe should NOT sing that song. That song is for strong independent women.
March 27th, 2009 at 9:44 am
#19, why didn’t you find another survey/article about sexual behavior thrilling, Pepperbird? Aren’t you “with it” like Barbara?
March 27th, 2009 at 9:47 am
Aileen, good luck with the recap. Very boring show today. I’m having trouble coming up with anything remotely funny.
OK, I got one. Bern if you’re bisexual you could fantasize about Brad Pitt and Angeline Jolie at the same time. Two for one, cut your “alone” time in half each week. More time to blog with us.
March 27th, 2009 at 9:50 am
Why are dumb and dumber asking about same sex relationships?
March 27th, 2009 at 9:53 am
Sherri….. you got divorced and had a “fling with a woman”
Reality….. Carol Leifer has been with her partner for 12 years……. just how do you define “Fling” Sherri?
Dumbass!
March 27th, 2009 at 9:56 am
#26, it must be a fling, because it is not sanctioned by God and the Holy Bible, so it cannot be a relationship, even if it lasts twelve years.
Did anybody else yell out, “Yes!” when Carol Leifer said that she didn’t know anything when she was in her thirties?!? Take that, Bitsy!
March 27th, 2009 at 9:56 am
#23 berndoubt I’d say Barbara is “without it” and that’s why she is acting “with it”. *snicker*
March 27th, 2009 at 9:57 am
I understand that CL is there because she wants to sell her book but me personally if I was a gay person, I couldn’t sit at a table with two people who have said clearly many times before they don’t think I should be allowed to marry the person I love. And for Sherri and Elisabeth to ask the most questions just seemed so hypocritical.
And when Elisabeth asked her what the difference was between being with a woman instead of a man, I swear I was hoping CL would have pulled out props. Such a missed opportunity LOL.
March 27th, 2009 at 9:58 am
I actually think SS looks nice in EH’s animal print top……..
March 27th, 2009 at 10:03 am
Whaz up with Barbara Walters’ hair today ?
Looks like last year’s Robin’s nest that just blew down from the porch roof.
March 27th, 2009 at 10:04 am
#28, I would argue that Barbara is with it, but we have yet to determine what “it” is.
March 27th, 2009 at 10:07 am
#31 Diane and #32 berndoubt ROFL!
Ain’t it the truf!
March 27th, 2009 at 10:08 am
Ok I’m recovered now [sits up straight].
March 27th, 2009 at 10:10 am
#30 lynn I agree. The animal top looked graceful on Sherri, and the matching earrings were stylin’.
Joy looked incredibly glam in that color combo and delicate necklace, but Barbara must have just returned from a funeral.
March 27th, 2009 at 10:10 am
I’m going back to my job search. I’ll check back to see what Aileen has to say.
March 27th, 2009 at 10:13 am

I actually think SS looks nice in EH’s animal print top……..
Ill betcha that EH made her buy it.
March 27th, 2009 at 10:26 am
#29 susieq I usually agree with you, but… the View is supposed to accommodate and juxtapose differing perspectives. The show sometimes fails or succeeds at this goal.
For me, part of the enjoyment is watching the balance point slide back and forth. To be fair, even the courts and various state voting populations are still trying to determine the gay marriage question, so I think it is fair to include both sides in the show.
I understand that the earlier years were better for this give-and-take way of watching the View.
March 27th, 2009 at 10:46 am
#30 lynn c–
I actually think SS looks nice in EH’s animal print top……..
RESPONSE; I am not an animal print person, but I agree with you. The top looked very nice on SS.
I also liked the top EH was wearing.
SS and EH singing : I think it was intended to be a “tongue in cheek” act. I thought it was funny and enjoyed it as a silly part of the segment.
March 27th, 2009 at 10:58 am
#38 I understand that the earlier years were better for this give-and-take way of watching the View.
It was - there were 4 or 5 generations speaking with sincerity on a question or topic - not the gossip driven, insipid choreographed nonsense of today…”I talk louder therefore I am”
March 27th, 2009 at 11:18 am
I missed the opening of the show and I haven’t see any comment or recap yet on what Whoopi’s excuse is THIS time for not showing up? Thanks.
March 27th, 2009 at 11:22 am
#38 Pepperbird–
To be fair, even the courts and various state voting populations are still trying to determine the gay marriage question, so I think it is fair to include both sides in the show.
Susieq isnt saying that they shouldnt have their views (no matter how wrong they are) What she is asking is, why should any gay person go on the show when 2 of the hosts have said repeatedly that gay people should not have equal rights as straight people?
I dont think that anyone would expect that a person of color should go on a show when hosts agree with the views of the Klan…. so how is this different?
March 27th, 2009 at 11:26 am
#41 Pepperbird–
I missed the opening of the show and I haven’t see any comment or recap yet on what Whoopi’s excuse is THIS time for not showing up? Thanks.
Barbara said that she needed her rest…. but Friday’s shows are recorded, so who knows why she wasnt there….. if they were truthful… would any of us believe it any way?
March 27th, 2009 at 11:30 am
#42 Rog, Have you considered that the gay person is going on the show to dialogue with the two who hold opposing views?
And I doubt that 2 of the hosts “have said repeatedly that gay people should not have equal rights as straight people.” That’s an exaggeration, surely. They might hold a different opinion about the marrying rights of gay people, but not ALL the rest of the rights of the gay ones.
March 27th, 2009 at 11:38 am
Oh I forgot Friday’s show is recorded. Thanks Rog for reminding me.
I personally think that Whoopi is job-hunting. She seemed moody, intimidated, or rebellious at the Disney shows. Then they came back and she was quiet, but exploded in that rant about the TV Guide article.
Now she’s been MIA this week with inconsistent stories (respiratory or intestinal illness?).
When she had those very serious tooth problems awhile back, Whoopi actually came in to the studio to prove to Barbara that she was truly and seriously ill. Barbara sent her to the doctor.
Of all the panelists. Whoopi seems to be the one who “calls in sick” most often. EH is praignant, but she’s always there.
March 27th, 2009 at 11:39 am
“pr-”egg”-nant
March 27th, 2009 at 11:43 am
Maybe Whoopi’s too-small dull little vest and oversized man’s white shirt were being washed, and she had nothing to wear. *snicker*
March 27th, 2009 at 11:59 am
#44 Pepperbird–
No I dont think that “the gay person is going on the show to dialogue with the two who hold opposing views” because both of those 2… Sherri and Elisabeth was asking all of the “whats it like to be gay” questions…. there wasnt one time where either of them had the guts to share their “views” in the presence of someone who they believe should lose their rights.
A question for you… you said They might hold a different opinion about the marrying rights of gay people, but not ALL the rest of the rights of the gay ones…… my question to you is this…. how many of your rights should be given up because someone else is “uncomfortable” with who you are and how you live your life.
March 27th, 2009 at 12:08 pm
Why on earth would they have the women getting together later in life as a Hot Topic and not have the panelists read the article?
susieq -it bothers me too that SS and EH led the interview with CL. They even had to chat to discuss who got to ask the question about the fling. If CL and her partner have been together for 12 years and have a son then it is not a fling.
IMO EH and SS try to be pc about gays, but in their hearts they are against it. SS is even terrified about it. Remember her son turns 4 next month and a long time ago when he was late 2 or a young 3 she was appalled that he would be allowed to dress up in inappropriate costumes at preschool. Also, there was no way in hell he would ever be allowed to be read the Penguin Book.
It is the hyprocrisy of EH and SS and their black and white, or in SS’s case who she just talked to that drives me nuts.
I would much rather hear from Lisa, Mere, Star and Rosie than SS or EH. And I won’t even go into the hyprocrisy of Rosie and EH’s “friendship” on EH’s part.
Man, I wish today were not taped, I’d love to hear about their take on the Republicans Budget. But there will be plenty of time next week when they put some figures in the budget! LOL
March 27th, 2009 at 12:11 pm
Pepperbird, Sherri and Elisabeth have both said they don’t think gay people should have a union that is called “marriage”. It’s just a word, why should matter it to them what it’s called.
Also Elisabeth compared gay marriage to someone wanting to marry a toaster. In her own insane way she was trying to make a point that if you legalize gay marriage it opens the door to other type of marriages. But as far as I know gay people think of the person they love and want to marry as more than a kitchen appliance. But IMO Elisabeth can’t comprehend that gay people are the same as straight people.
March 27th, 2009 at 12:21 pm
#48 Rog: As I understand it, my civil rights, like yours, are set, defined, or changed by the laws of our country and my (your) states, and of course by the Constitution of the United States and its amendments. Certain case law and constitutional law interpretations also may set boundaries on rights, I believe (for example, Brown vs Board of Education Topeka KS for desegregation of schools and Miranda vs. Arizona to avoid coercive self-incrimination of an arrested person).
Currently, gay marriage as a civil right is an area that various state voting populations and/or courts (and maybe Congress) are working out. Some states have made different state laws about it, I think. Some persons have suggested a Constitutional amendment to cover it. Judges in some states have taken it upon themselves to issue rulings that were reversed by higher courts or by public referendum.
It’s not yet a universal civil right “to be given up”.
March 27th, 2009 at 12:22 pm
OK, since i’m on the EH/SS train 2 more things bugged me today.
When EH asked if the phone that the Gadget guy was showing “will breast feed my next child.”
Sherri’s divorce had to be awful - her husband cheating on her at a time like that (or any time) and having another child. Yet she hasn’t grown much, to me any way, because even today she still lives in that dream world that she “feels nurtured and protected with a man.”

what it means Pepperbird is that today’s show was taped Monday or Tuesday when Whoopi was out *sick with a cold* - oh wait - intestinal problem - oh wait - was it a cold or was it her stomach? If you’re gonna tell a lie, all folks involved in the lie should get it straight LOL -
March 27th, 2009 at 12:25 pm
oops - I should have read all the posts first before I responded LOL - sorry guys/gals!

#50 susieq says “…both said they don’t think gay people should have a union that is called “marriage”. It’s just a word, why should matter it to them what it’s called.”
It’s not just a word, susieq. Marriage is a contract and we have hundreds of years of statutory law, common law, and case law interpretation about it. If a couple adopts, divorces, or one of them inherits, there are laws that are on the books, for example.
I missed the toaster dialogue from EH and the panel, but it does sound like EH thought gay marriage opens the door to other types of marriages. That’s her opinion, to which she is entitled, the last time I checked the First amendment to the Constitution.
March 27th, 2009 at 12:39 pm
Thanks MiamiVision for the show information (taped).
March 27th, 2009 at 1:03 pm
It wasn’t too many decades ago that people of different races were not able to marry.
If gays marry I don’t care whether we call it a marriage or a civil union, just that they can. And that they are protected by contracts too.
March 27th, 2009 at 1:04 pm
Joy Behar is on Rachel Ray’s show right now where I live! She’s wearing a black dress and that orange flower necklace from earlier this week.
They are talking about why Letterman got married.
March 27th, 2009 at 1:07 pm
Pepperbird–
I love that we can disagree civilly…. our dialog is one of the things that make America great… we both are amazing arent we
There are a couple of thigns that you posted that arent completely correct.
It’s not yet a universal civil right “to be given up”.
This was a civil rights issue when it came to interracial marriage. The ruling came from Loving v. Virginia…. so marriage is a civil right.
This is a quote from Wikipedia… it seemed quite relevant.
On June 12, 2007, Mildred Loving issued a rare public statement, which commented on same-sex marriage, prepared for delivery on the 40th anniversary of the Loving v. Virginia decision of the US Supreme Court.[9] The concluding paragraphs of her statement read as follows:
“ Surrounded as I am now by wonderful children and grandchildren, not a day goes by that I don’t think of Richard and our love, our right to marry, and how much it meant to me to have that freedom to marry the person precious to me, even if others thought he was the “wrong kind of person” for me to marry. I believe all Americans, no matter their race, no matter their sex, no matter their sexual orientation, should have that same freedom to marry. Government has no business imposing some people’s religious beliefs over others. Especially if it denies people’s civil rights.
I am still not a political person, but I am proud that Richard’s and my name is on a court case that can help reinforce the love, the commitment, the fairness, and the family that so many people, black or white, young or old, gay or straight seek in life. I support the freedom to marry for all. That’s what Loving, and loving, are all about.
March 27th, 2009 at 1:07 pm
As her wedding gift, Rachel has just offered to cater Joy’s wedding if she marries!
March 27th, 2009 at 1:11 pm
This is the other one.
#55 Pepperbird–
It’s not just a word, susieq. Marriage is a contract and we have hundreds of years of statutory law, common law, and case law interpretation about it.
Many people have said that a civil union is alright, but not a marriage. They say that marriage is a “religious” bond, but it isnt…. there are legal differences between marriage and a civil union….. but basically the only difference is the wording.
March 27th, 2009 at 1:11 pm
Ding. Ding. Ding, Mary Evans. You have correctly answered the question and completed the Human Rights Category, so please choose your next question from another category.
Oh, and clink-a-link!
March 27th, 2009 at 1:13 pm
Joy is a pistol on Ray-Ray’s show! Roger you are missing it!
March 27th, 2009 at 1:16 pm
Extra credit to you, Rog, for looking up the Constitutional law on this one. You can choose the next category.
Your Final Jeopardy category is The Supreme Court.
Clink it!
March 27th, 2009 at 1:18 pm
Thanks bern LOL :-D- and rog for your poignant Loving v Virgina quote.
March 27th, 2009 at 1:21 pm
Roger quotes: “Government has no business imposing some people’s religious beliefs over others. Especially if it denies people’s civil rights.”
But if you study constitutional law and our great Constitution and its amendments, you will see that the federal government usually protects civil rights, more than undermining them.
The varied states have a spottier, more debatable record with civil rights.
March 27th, 2009 at 1:31 pm
Sorry for the late post peeps…
March 27th, 2009 at 1:39 pm
I’m fixin’ to read your recap now Aileen, but FYI the martinis are supposed to be quaffed AFTER the recap, not BEFORE it!
March 27th, 2009 at 1:43 pm
LOL - Sherri likes men. Got it. Back to recap.
March 27th, 2009 at 1:45 pm
Thanks Aileen for the Great Recap! You are very, very funny!
LOL@Pepperbird #68! Aileen having martinis prior to recapping *lol*
March 27th, 2009 at 1:49 pm
Oh fudge, now we are hearing that BaWa herself is going to be on Ray-Ray’s show next week. Will Sherri, Whoopi, and EH also get their turns?
Ray-Ray got Joy to admit that Joy sautes, and actually can make Chicken Parmesan. Maybe the Raymeister can provide BaWa with a gourmet recipe for boiling water too.
March 27th, 2009 at 1:52 pm
Thanks Erma, I mean Aileen, for the fun recap!
March 27th, 2009 at 1:54 pm
Your Welcome Miami!

Put the paint gun away Aileen - too funny. I think I’ll make my husband a nice candle-lit, fact-free dinner tonight. He’s earned it.
LOL
March 27th, 2009 at 2:04 pm
Aileen, your recap was so much more enjoyable than the show today.
I think we all appreciate how hard it is for Winnie to do on a daily basis.

Tanky Susq, I am still not gonna swap spit wit ya.
March 27th, 2009 at 2:23 pm
Aileen, just because I’m over 40, barely, doesn’t mean I’m going to suddenly wake up and decide I’m gay.
But if you’re offering me a weekend of martinis, brownies and some good music I might change my mind.
March 27th, 2009 at 2:40 pm
THANKS FOR TODAYS RE-CRAP!!!! JUST SAYIN!!!!
March 27th, 2009 at 4:12 pm
Boy Aileen…. there are so many comments that I want to make about your recap…. but I have already been yelled at by 2 or 3 ladies on here because of my “gutter” thoughts. So I guess Ill just have to keep them to myself so they all dont get all offended again.
Smooches Aileen….. nice recap…. thanks.

First off…. the quote that you attributed to me wasnt mine…. it was pasted from a quote from Mildred Loving.
….you will see that the federal government usually protects civil rights, more than undermining them.
That is true Pepper…. but in this case the Federal Government has been trying to undermine the right of marriage.
After Massachusetts allowed same sex marriage, the Republican lead congress, in a panic, enacted and passed the Defense of Marriage Act in 1996. This Act states that marriage is between 1 man and 1 woman… so no federal agency currently recognizes same-sex marriage. Even the LEGAL ones in Massachusetts and Connecticut.
By our constitution, it is illegal for the Federal to enact a law that steps on the laws of the states.

“Gonna be catty - but EliSabeth looks like hell - this pregnancy seems to have run over her”
Yeah, I’d say that definitely falls under catty. From the clips of the show I’ve seen yesterday and today, I actually thought she looked pretty. Different strokes…
To the guest recapper’s this week…thanks! I thought you all did a fantastic job. That would be hard to do, especially Kelly when I read she did that without any pausing, TIVO or anything. I hope Winnie is doing okay.

You know BW was planning on interviewing Mrs. Sadat - right? Well, I just read this over at TWoP:
“BW got scooped. Rachel Maddow interviewed Mrs. Sadat on last night’s show.”
HAHAHAHAHA - I LOVE IT!!! See? Barbara is just very irrelevant in 2009…time to permanently go *offstage* Barbara! It’s too late to go out graciously after the last 2-3 years of The View, “your” show, so you claimed at the outset.
I also read at TWoP that BW via Perez Hilton’s site is “definitely not renewing her contract.”
I think perhaps 2 things might have happened. Either Barbara got some kind of diagnosis (diagnoses, as by 80 one usually has several diagnoses) and/or perhaps her friends and family DID AN INTERVENTION a la along the lines of what Beverly Sills was trying to tell her before Beverly died and BW was just too thick-headed to pick up on…
or…is it possible? Perhaps BW has seen the light all on her own, perhaps she had a lucid moment…and saw the show for what it has become…..
dunno - but it also could be a combination of factors too….like ALL OF THE ABOVE?!?!?!?!??? *LOL*

Miami, ABC will still promote BW’s interview as the only “major network” interview with Mrs. Sadat. Now I know who she is and I know who her husband was but a lot of the audience today probably does not. Every once in a while Barbara does an interview with someone not in show biz and I guess we’re supposed to put all her vibrator and other stupid talk out of our minds and see her for the “serious” journalist that she is. But that doesn’t work with me. IMO her being a part of the View and enabling the unprofessional, childish and all-around self-indulgent behavior of her co-hosts has forever tarnished her reputation as a pioneer for women.

I totally agree #84 susieq…it doesn’t work for me either….and your last line too…

Hey Aileen - I meant calling you Erma as a compliment.
Erma Bombeck was a treasure and wrote a column called “At Wit’s End” about motherhood. Hilarious. She died in 1996.
Just shows my age….but do ask your mother or grandmother about her.

RESPONSE : Erma was the best. I have all of her books. It is nice to see “some” of us older Mothers and Grandmothers are Watching The View and voicing our “retired” views.

Hey Aileen, Jersey Gal ! Exit 114 chiming in a day late here….great job on the recap.Did we expect any less from you?
Have to also back up Mary Evans and Marilyn. Comparing you to the hilarious Erma Bombeck is a compliment. Always remember her line, ” The Grass Is Always Greener Over The Septic Tank.”

SusieQ says # 84 - “IMO her being a part of the View and enabling the unprofessional, childish and all-around self-indulgent behavior of her co-hosts has forever tarnished her reputation as a pioneer for women.”
Agreed. Loved that Rachel got the ‘get of Mrs. Anwar Sadat interview.

Thanks for the recap, Aileen! Nice work:-)
I don’t know how any one could - with a straight face - suggest that if gay people are allowed to marry, that next people would marry toasters. How asinine is that?
It’s also an insulting face slap; if I were gay I’d wonder if someone equates my love for another consenting human equates to a metallic appliance. Last I checked, an appliance can’t express love, caring, compassion or any other human feeling.
I just don’t get it. And yes, Bits has the right to her opinion, as do I in questioning it.

Barbara Walters Is Not Quitting TV
by Liz Smith
March 29
Flash! As much as I dislike disagreeing with the excellent reporters at the National Enquirer (they are so often right), I do dispute their story this week that Barbara Walters is “quitting TV.” I had an in-depth interview with Barbara only two weeks ago for the April issue of Avenue magazine. In that talk, she told me in no uncertain terms how much she loves her show “The View” and that going to work there with the women she has chosen is like “going on vacation for me.” She expressed her love for each of them. Barbara is very proud of the success and importance of “The View,” which she created herself with her partner, producer Bill Geddie.
And I don’t see Barbara giving up her successful Sirius radio talk show which she does, again, with producer Geddie.
So, even if Barbara cuts down her contractual obligations to ABC News when her contract ends this summer, we’ll still have her on “The View.” When we talked in her Fifth Avenue apartment recently, Barbara was indeed mulling over just how much she wants to undertake in the future. She doesn’t want to work as long or as hard as she has over the glorious years of the most astonishing female success in television. I, for one, hope she will go on doing her famous “specials” — the Oscar special and the Most Famous People special. These are both media hits.
I was particularly amused by the Enquirer’s certainty that Barbara “wants to spend more time with her boyfriend, Dr.Robert Butler.” The doctor is a good friend and a distinguished authority on geriatric problems. But there hasn’t been any romance between these two for well over a year.

Bill O’Reilly is scheduled to be on the View tomorrow.
Blech.

I have been coming here for quite a while…. the one thing that I have discovered is that each and everyone one of you is a good person. We may not always agree, but I really enjoy this site. (thanks Winnie)
I am in a facebook group with another bunch of wonderful women, one of them is having a special day tomorrow. It is the 32nd anniversary of the day that her 2 granddaughters were kidnapped.
Please click on my name…. that is the facebook site that has the pictures of her grandchildren from back then to what they might look like today.
Wouldnt it be a joy for her to find out what happened all of those years ago….. I know that you all will give this all of the respect that it deserves. I hope that this will help her in some little way… it is the least that I can do.
Thanks.
