The View March 28th Recap: Barack Obama

barack-obama-on-the-view.jpg

Today on The View was the long awaited appearance by Barack Obama. The show was taped on Thursday, which is typical for Friday shows. Everyone (except Whoopi of course) looked a little dressier than they typically do on a Friday.

A hotel chain in Oregon has taken bibles out of the drawers in the rooms, but you can order it like room service. Sherri Shepherd doesn’t like it because she has to wait to get the bible and might have to tip. Whoopi said that it is better that way because they would need a big drawer to fit all the relevant books for different faiths. She suggested they have a “hotel religion” that combines them all. Elisabeth said that maybe she should BYOB. Sherri has a travel bible, but the print is hard to read. Joy said that she read that some people think that Noah’s Ark is related to Joan of Arc.

Reverend Wright made a statement about Italians “looking down their garlic noses” during the time of the crucification of Jesus. Whoopi said people were worried about JFK because his spiritual leader was the Pope. She said that Wright is not running for president and stupid things are said all the time. Barbara said that you cannot compare them because we are not talking about Barack’s religion, but rather his mentor saying discriminatory things to the people in the church, including children. Sherri said that he has also taught the children about the importance of community. Barbara said that we know that and that is not what we are talking about.

Joy said that those recent comments were not offensive, because the Roman nose has been celebrated in art and it should be a complement. Elisabeth compared it to the uproar when people exaggerated Jewish people’s noses. Joy said that is different because the Jews have been oppressed and discriminated against and the Roman nose has not been used as a negative thing.

There are greeting cards for loved ones serving time in prison. Whoopi read a few out loud in a mocking tone. Sherri read one and dedicated it to her cousin in prison. The “Merry Christmas” card had handcuffs on it and said something about how the prisoner had been naughty. Barbara said that she has been to lots of prisons and said that the prisoners need quarters for the vending machines when they have visitors.

There is a new book that says that women lie about how much clothing costs, whether they had plastic surgery, and their husband’s job. Sherri said that she would lie if sex was bad with her husband. Joy said that you have to have a photographic memory to be a good liar. Elisabeth said that is a quote from Lincoln. Joy asked Barbara if Lincoln said that to her.

Barack Obama got a standing ovation when he came out and cordially greeted all of the ladies. Barbara said that she re-read Dreams from My Father. She asked him what she should do when Joy makes fun of her. Barack said to let jokes roll of you and it is the only way that you can survive. You have to be able to take constructive criticism, but you have to know that not everything you say will make everyone happy.

Joy Behar said that she heard that Barack was related to Brad Pitt. Barack said that they are ninth cousins or something. He joked that Brad got the better looking part of the gene pool. Barbara told him that they all think that he is very sexy looking. He looked a bit embarrassed and said thank you.

Barbara asked Barack about Reverend Jeremiah Wright. When the Don Imus situation happened, Barack said that no one would remain on his staff who made comments like that about any race. Barack said that people need to understand that the reverend has retired and is no longer preaching. He added that the United Church of Christ itself is mostly white denomination, but he attends one of the few black churches. It is one of the most active churches in the community and Reverend Wright had a reputation as one of the best preachers. He never heard Reverend Wright say many of the things that have offended people, as he gave three sermons a week. He said that the statements were more offensive for their characterization of America than race. It doesn’t excuse what he said, but he was someone caught in a time warp after having lived through the 1950s and 1960s.

Barack stated, “Had the reverend not retired. Had he not acknowledged that what he had said had deeply offended people and were inappropriate and mischaracterized what I believe is the greatness of this country, for all its flaws, then I wouldn’t have felt comfortable staying at the church.”

Elisabeth said that his speech at the Democratic National Convention was captivating because it talked about one America, but that the person he chose as his spiritual adviser said these divisive statements. He said that you have only seen snippets of this man. He said to imagine that someone took the five stupidest thing you ever said and put it on a continuous loop. Elisabeth said that they sell it on DVDs at the church. He said that he doesn’t buy all the DVDs or read all the bulletins.

Barack said that his speech at the DNC was not to suggest that we don’t have real divisions, but rather a speech of hope for the future. He said that people have some good and some bad about them. His goal has been to get people to understand each other who have very different opinions on things. Whoopi said that sounds like The View. Barack said that he talked to Reverend Wright since this has happened and he is saddened by what has happened. Barack feels badly that Reverend Wright has been characterized based on these isolated comments. He read an article recently that a white parishioner wrote about how Reverend Wright had counseled his African-American girlfriend (now wife) to marry him when she expressed doubts about marrying a white man. Barack said that these are things that you don’t hear about.

Whoopi asked him what the first three things he would do if he were elected President. He will call in the Joint Chiefs of Staff and give them a new mission to responsibly and honorably begin a withdrawal from Iraq. He wants us to be careful getting out and protect our troops, but the only way to stabilize the area is to make sure the Iraqi government functions. He said that won’t happen if we remain there. He would then put forward legislation to give every American health care. If you have health care, they will work with your employer to lower the premiums. If you don’t have health care, you can get it, subsidized if necessary. The third thing that he would do is deal with the energy crisis. He said that we make Iran and Russian wealthier by pushing up the price of gas. He said we need to invest in alternate fuels and lower emissions. He added that there might be some crisis management with the economy that he may have to tackle first.

Joy asked Barack if he will be able to handle what comes at him during the campaign, noting that John Kerry thought he would be able to, but then he got swiftboated. Barack said, “I’m skinny, but I’m tough.” He added that “there have been some tough punches thrown in this Democratic primary. It’s not like I’m been taking a cake walk through this primary.” He handles the attacks by answering “honestly, swiftly, forcefully and truthfully. I think the truth is a powerful weapon.” He added when you say what you really believe, without exaggeration or retaliation, it can be disarming. He said that Kerry didn’t answer quickly enough.

Barack said that his wife, Michelle, will not sit in at his cabinet meetings. She doesn’t want to and her priorities are their two children. She will find projects if she is first lady to help children in the United States. She does not have a burning desire to be a policy maker on a day-to-day basis. He added that everyone knows by know that she is even a better speaker than he is.

Sherri said that after she heard his speech on race, she changed her opinion and wants to campaign for him. She then asked him whether he thinks the campaign has gotten dirty. He doesn’t think the campaign has gotten dirty, but it has gotten contentious, especially among the surrogates. He said that Hillary Clinton is a bright strong public servant and they will remain friends. He said once this is all done, the party will come together. He said that once he beats John McCain, he will try to bring both sides together He doesn’t believe that the Democrats have the monopoly on wisdom. He wants to listen to people, which the current President has not done, and get a diversity of people. He said that we have more in common than what drives us apart. Most people want the same things, like a job with a living wage, health care, safety, and dignity and respect when they retire.

Barack said that he doesn’t want taxes to increase. He would rollback the tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans. Sherri said that Barbara will be in trouble. He wants to cut taxes for those who make under $75,000 a year, which should make it revenue neutral. He wants to give help to people who bought homes and didn’t know what they were getting into. He doesn’t want to reward those who took on too much knowingly, but those who didn’t know what they were getting into need help.

Barack said that they should have his wife Michelle on the show because then she can “dish the dirt.”

At the end of the show, Whoopi said to John McCain that they would love him to come on the show…and Hillary too.

    Just five?
    :D

  2. Harlemnites Says:

As Whoopi would say, Sherri really stepped in it today. When she attempted the joke regarding Barbara Walters being rich and would have tax problems, Ms. Walters became very angry and told her, “that is something we do not do”
Poor thing, she was just trying to be funny.

  3. Makita Says:

I don’t know how you always manage to do it. But you give the best damn recaps EVER!!!! I watch The View daily and always come over here to link to my friends who might of missed it and your recaps are always on point. Great job!!!

““He said to imagine that someone took the five stupidest thing you ever said and put it on a continuous loop.””

I LOVED THIS because he was looking straight at EH & saying YOU when he said it: “the 5 stupidest things YOU ever said.” A golden moment & he seized it. Thank you, Senator Obama. And she asked for it, too. She was trying to turn the entire segment into a one-topic swiftboating of him regarding that preacher.

Also: EH has said hasn’t she that she wants to know how all of the candidates will “keep us safe” because to her that’s the no. l concern. Did she ask him today about that? I didn’t hear it. She was too busy on her swiftboat campaign.

  5. Andy Says:

I was surprised by Whoopi mocking the prison cards. For one, African Americans make up the largest percent of our prison population. Yes it’s an injustice of an imperfect judicial system. Wouldn’t you at least somewhat support something that would impact your culture?

  6. Lisa Says:

“Also: EH has said hasn’t she that she wants to know how all of the candidates will “keep us safe” because to her that’s the no. l concern. Did she ask him today about that? I didn’t hear it. She was too busy on her swiftboat campaign.”

    Great Point! :D

  7. Lisa Says:

    I agree Harlemnites.

  8. May Says:

Good show today! I’m not a fan of Obama but he does charm the socks off of people when he speaks…hope he means to do what he promises. Today he did seem to look at EH when he said the “5 stupidest things” remark…wunnerful, wunnerful! She was chomping at the bit to get her tinny voice fox baiting him..anything her littlest brain could come up with…I’m sure her dear hubby and faux news was proud of her “interviewing” Obama. They’ll have plenty of praise for her on tonight’s yak yak recap. Anyway the show was enjoyable. Bawa did jump on Sherri about the money she was making and the tax thing. Sherri will have to learn the line that she cannot cross is thin.

  9. Julianne Says:

I didn’t see it, but I wondered if he looked at EH when he said that. That’s AWESOME! Good for him.

    I’m embarrassed for her husband.

  10. Sandy Says:

Great recap Winnie!, there was a lot of substance to get in.

I got to see the show and enjoyed it. I thought that the ladies did well in asking some important questions.
As well I thought that senator Obama did a great job in responding.
I can’t disagree with anything he said.

All in all I thought it was a good show.

Funny how some can watch the same show and perceive things differently. Yes senator Obama was looking at Elisabeth when he made the comment “imagine if someone took the 5 stupidest things you ever said and put it on a continuous loop”. I believe that was because she had just finished asking him a question. I didn’t hear him emphasize “you” I don’t think it was to make her feel bad, or directed soley at her. I don’t believe he would intentionaly do that.
He made a VERY good point.

Yes Elisabeth was asking some questions about Rev. Wright. I don’t see it as such a bad thing, for either side. Elisabeth isn’t the only one with these questions and concerns. It gave senator Obama a chance to address these things, nationally. That’s a good thing.

One thing that senator Obama said that I really liked was that no matter if you are Republican or Democrat, we have more in common than what drives us apart. We all want basically the same things.

To Sherri’s attempted joke about Barb’s income. Yes Barb did say “that is something we do not do”. She didn’t sound angry to me though. And yes Sherri will learn what lines you shouldn’t cross.

  11. Lisa Says:

I really was embarrassed for EH.
She really made a jackass of herself. She was very confrontational and his calmness just made her look like a fool.
    :D

  12. Carol Says:

I didn’t see it either, but it’s interesting that some people (including me) wondered or surmised that he looked at Ms. Stepford, excuse me EH.

  13. Dee Says:

I am tired of the drip drip drip technique that EH is using regarding Pastor Wright’s sermons. Everyday she has something new that she wants to use to incite a schism in the American populace and today it was the “looking down their garlic noses”. Her barely hidden dislike for all things Democrat is tedious. Grow up for God’s sake or find a job on Faux News.

Like Hillary, Obama did a masterful job of handling Bit’s and I am pleased that Joy got to sit on the couch with him after being out ill yesterday.

  14. Judy Bow Says:

Bill Maher published a blog today that enumerates exactly what I have been wishing I could ask Elisabeth to consider:

    Mar 28, 2008 3:44 PM
Subject: New Rule: Catholics Must Get Up Out of the Pew and Walk Out
Body: When Barack Obama didn’t hear Reverend Wright say those awful things about America, he still should have rushed the stage, smite Reverend Wright with the cross, and left the church. If there’s anything the right wing can agree on, it’s that. And that gays are going to hell, right after they suck them off in the airport bathroom.

But it raises an obvious question, one that I haven’t heard asked, which is strange because it’s so obvious: If you leave a church when the head of the church says bad things about America, what do you do when your church hierarchy is caught up in a systematic and decades-long sex abuse scandal? And did I mention the people being sexually abused were children? Hundreds of them?

How about when the head of that church, or Pope, associated with and promoted members of the clergy who not only facilitated the sexual abuse and rape of hundreds and hundreds of children, but engaged in a decades-long cover-up of those crimes?

Reverend Wright associated with Farrakhan. The Pope works with Cardinal Law.

Which is worse? Isn’t it the man who shuffled “priests” like Shanley and Geoghan and many others from parish to parish with the full knowledge of their crimes, and then claimed he had no idea?

Yes, by Sean Hannity’s own logic, Catholics like him, en masse, would be expected to abandon their church. Which shouldn’t be a problem, because they worship Reagan anyway.

COLMES: Then shouldn’t John McCain say he doesn’t support the views of a man who makes anti-Catholic statements?

    OBENSHAIN: He did, I believe.

    He said I’m not–I don’t agree with everything — a
COLMES: And Obama says he does not support anti-Semitism, as expressed by Louis Farrakhan.

    HANNITY: Leave the church.

Well, what about it, Sean? Shouldn’t you leave your church? I mean, like, five years ago?

And since you haven’t, how do we know you’re not also a secret child fucker? Again, just using your logic:

HANNITY: …What if he really deep down in his heart thinks like Pastor Wright?

LUNTZ: It’s not for anyone to answer that question.

HANNITY: Well, is that dangerous for this country? I think that would be dangerous. That would mean we would have — if he agreed with Wright, and I don’t know that he does, but if he did, that would mean a racist and an anti-Semite would be president of the United States.

Side note: Does it occur to anyone that, for the past five years, the nuts every politician has been busy distancing themselves from–Reverend Wright, Reverend Falwell, Reverend Hagee, Reverend Haggard, Reverend Robertson–are all, you know, reverends?

Why don’t we just go back to the days when politicians kept their religions to themselves? Wasn’t that better?

  15. Stacee Says:

I have no idea why Whoopi was even there. She looked bored and had a weird look on her face the entire time. The only time she seemed to speak was to ask that question that she has asked every presidential candidate. How original (NOT!).

EH really needs to polish up on interviewing people. She took an awful long time to ask her question to Sen. Obama. I was wondering when she’d shut up so he could answer.
She was also rude in trying to interupt when he was answering said question. Thankfully, Barb put her finger up to silence her (Thanks Barb).

I got a kick out of Joy’s interaction with Sen. Obama today. He seemed to warm to her the most. And I think Sherri has improved greatly on the show. Barb seemed sour and sometimes I find it hard to believe she was/is a journalist.

As for Sen. Obama; I found him to be a good, engaging guest. I enjoyed his appearance on the View.

  16. Mindy Says:

I did not watch the show simply because I already know what he’s going to say. He is strictly Rhetoric. Pretty words said in pretty sentences - As one candidate put it a long time ago, “Where’s the beef?” I am for neither candidate but I do feel Clinton is the more capable one. Let’s face it: As that brilliant journalist, Charles Krauthammer put it, “Where did this guy come from? Three years ago we had never heard the name Obama. It started with his speech at the convention.
Very pretty speech. That’s all he’s got. Words. Have to quote Clinton again - as much as I hate to - “Talk is cheap.”

  17. rainlillie Says:

    Mindy,
You are so wrong. He specified what his plans were for America. It would be nice if you could communicate without using taking points or quoting someone else.

Obama has shown good judgment and he has built an organization from the ground up, with people from every walk of life, coming together to support him.

Now that’s leadership. It will be a welcome relief to have a President that is the opposite of what we have now.

  18. Ann Says:

did anyone notice , after Sherri said that, after hearing his speech , she wanted to campaign for him on the weekends. Elizabeth added that she felt the same way. Maybe she’s a budding Obamican .

  19. ShannonP Says:

    Mindy,

If you feel Clinton is the more capable candidate, why in the same paragraph do you say you hate to quote her?
Look at all the damage Bush has managed to do in 3 years. 3 years can be a long time, for bad and good. We were definitely long aware of the Bush name before he got into office, there was plenty of experience behind that name…and look at the damage he has been behind. The fact that we haven’t heard much about Obama before, to me, isn’t really that big of a deal. Sometimes if you want change you do need something fresh.
I voted for Clinton, but I am increasingly drawn to Obama.

  20. ColoredSpirit Says:

    Great synopsis.

EH got on my nerves! Whiny, complaining and THEN making comparisons w/Jeffery Dahmer! Good grief little girl…don’t you know that serial killers are not the same as Obama.

BW was pissed at SS! Let’s hope that SS’s positive contributions on the show will weigh more than the single BW joke that flatten cuz Bawa can’t take a joke nor will she have one directed at her.

I’m ready for EH to get booted…she’s become Rosie.

  21. ShannonP Says:

I watched the clips of Obama on the View site but all they showed was EH’s (too long) questioning of him and the Brad Pitt thing. I’d like to see where Sherri made that joke and BW’s reaction. Has it been posted online?

  22. RosiesBiggestFan Says:

    #20
“I’m ready for EH to get booted…she’s become Rosie.”

    That insults Rosie big-time!

  23. ShannonP Says:

    http://youtube.com/watch?v=z_aJ0ydcxDw

    Never mind, I found it.
YouTube has a bunch of clips from the interview. I was highly impressed with Obama. I think EH was trying SO hard to put him on the defensive but he remained calm and cool the whole time. She failed in all attempts.
And what was up with Whoopi??? Does someone have any insight as to why she acted so aloof and like she was just a body there but not really there? Is it because she is friends with the Clintons? She dressed and acted like she couldn’t care less who was there.

  24. Dee Says:

There is no comparison between Rosie and EH.

  25. Stephanie Says:

Ann, I noticed EH make that comment, but she was joking…except nobody really laughed

  26. RosiesBiggestFan Says:

2 questions from today’s ask rosie

Uh oh! Sherri made a joke about how rich Walters is on the view today! “That is one thing we DONT talk about!!!” said walters.
    A.
    yup

what bothers me about Elisabeth is often she doesn’t think before she talks. Today Barack handled himself with grace when E got ‘excited’Often it looks like ‘anger’ from E rather than passion.

    A.:
she is hard to figure out

  27. Elsie Says:

I think Rosie has joked about BW’s $$ B4, and I didn’t sense anger from her. And, if I’m not mistaken, so has Joy. But, I guess Sherri doesn’t get a pass. Sensitive subject!

In case you missed it, Obama gave a big speech to the nation about Rev.Wright on 3-18-08 and theView talked about the speech a lot. The speech&topic have been discussed daily since then, all over the Net & news. Almost 2 weeks now, daily. Obama has been interviewed about it since his big speech.

  29. Tina Says:

Great Show! After Sherri made the joke about BW having a lot of money, Whoopi got out of her seat & turned away from the audience, umm was she laughing or was she embarrassed for Sherri? Or was she just really being weird today? Did anybody else wonder about that? I just thought it was a bizarre reaction. Sen Obama never missed a beat and didn’t seem distracted at all but the look on BW’s face was priceless. Sherri is a riot!

  30. DeeDee Says:

Sherri is a pistol! Almost dancing a jig with excitement when she met him. Blurting out, “I was gonna vote for Hillary till I heard your speech!” Then the joke about Moneybags Walters. She is so unscripted, so real. Breath of fresh air!

  31. DeeDee Says:

Sherri’s outfit looked like a short version of that gown and jacket EH wore to the White House dinner.

  32. Sandy Says:

    # 28 Sarah,
No I didn’t miss senator Obama’s speech concerning Rev. Wright and racism. I thought it was a great speech.
I know that the View has discussed Rev. Wright, and just about every news organization, and person.
I know it is still being talked about, even aftert 2 weeks.
I know that Elisabeth has her own reasons for asking these just about same questions.
I just don’t see it as a bad thing for senator Obama, or that big of a deal. It gave him another chance nationally to express his feelings about Rev. Wright. He’s going to face a lot harder things than that, and these same questions again, if he is the nominee,..whcih I believe he will be.

  33. LouiseInAlabama Says:

You’re so right Sandy. The questions certainly will get harder and this Rev Wright issue will definitely resurface if he wins the democratic nomination. I thought Elisabeth did very well considering she’s out numbered by the democrats on the panel.

  34. Dee Says:

The assumption that anyone knows how many Democrats sit at that table is amusing. Joy is definitely a Democrat, Bab’s certainly does not act like one and Whoopie is in tight with a whole lotta Republicans. The fact that they try to balance the rudeness and ranting of EH does not make them Democrats, it makes them parents/adults.

If there was true balance on this show they would be discussing Hagee who has denounced the Roman Catholic Church as “the great whore of Babylon” and “a cult. Another right-wing preacher Parsley… “Mr. Parsley who “has called upon Christians to actively confront the “false religion” of Islam with the aim of destroying it”…”McCain has called Parsley a “spiritual guide”. This is bigotry of religious practices by US citizens. So McCain doesn’t want the Catholic or Muslim vote? If there were true Democrats on this panel this would be part of the discussion too.

I agree that Obama did an excellent job and Bit’s once again had a hard time not interrupting him, which is extremely rude of her considering he is a guest.

Sherri is the only reason I watch these days and even that isn’t going to be enough to turn it on again.

  35. Lisa Says:

#28. I agree with your entire post. I don’t give a damn about Wright. I want to know what Obama is going to do about the real issues. Louise it’s strange to me that rev Wright would be a concern to you, considering you have sons serving in Iraq. The increase in violence should be more of a concern. Aren’t you more interested in Obama bringing your sons home, than this Rev. issue?

  36. Lisa Says:

    Sandy,
The reason it’s a bad thing is because it takes time away from real issues.

  37. Dee Says:

#37…I don’t think we can agree at all. Even Rosie switched her registration to Independent. I have worked for both political parties and neither Barbara nor Whoopie can be pegged. Your absolute theory that all Hollywood is voting Democrat is foolish, especially since California has a Republican actor as a Govenor.

Whoopie can be tight with Republicans just like she can be with Democrats…it doesn’t mean you know that she is a Democrat. She seems to speak very highly of McCain, how do you know that she is not voting for him?

I think we can agree that four out of five at that table think that Bush did a disastrous job for the country, it doesn’t mean they are Democrats.

  38. Dee Says:

#37 Part II “Also, I think it’s kind of silly for the co-hosts to treat Barack Obama like he is a Messiah (To me, it just seemed that they were all trying to make a favorable impression on the guy, and to me he is just a guy. period.) I do think he is an excellent speaker, and really draws me in, but I don’t really agree with him.”

I thought this was an interesting pov. I didn’t think that WG or BW treated him special. In fact, WG seemed to be bored by the whole interview and BW seemed catatonic at times. The only enthusiasm was on the other side of the couch and two were into him and the third was looking for a fight. If looking for a leader to bring this country back to the respect it once had is being a Messiah in your eyes then so be it, but my interpretation was that they were tickled that they finally got someone on the show of stature and they were taking advantage of the moment.

So John McCain, with his tasteless sense of mockery (Chelsea joke, song of bombing Iran) flip flopping on right-wing rhetoric, his spiritual adviser who wants to destroy the Islamic religion and his lack of understanding of who we are fighting in the Middle East works for you…should you meet him, would you not be enthused?

And yes, maybe many of us are looking for that savior to restore this country’s economic stability, pride and unity we once had as a nation. May it only take four years to restore after the last eight years of destruction.

  39. sarahsmith Says:

There are many tough questions for a candidate to be asekd. Asking one question over another during a brief group interview does not mean you are brushing other questions aside. Especially when the media has asked it daily & the candidate has made a speech & follow up interviews. We all have reason to believe the Wright issue will continue to be talked about. Everyone across party lines wants to know how Obama or any candidate plans to tackle the biggest messes we have on our hands, Iraq and our economy. The Rev. Wright issue swept the war & our economy under the rug. Elisabeth was holding the broom.

  40. rainlillie Says:

“especially when the media has asked it daily”

The only people still interested in talking about Rev. Wright are people who weren’t going to vote for Obama in the first place. This issue has hardly been swept under the rug. He gave a major speech about it, talked to every media outlet in the country about it. It would have been so nice if those same people stood up and asked question before we went into Iraq. This is overkill and a waste of time.

  41. rainlillie Says:

“I don’t believe for a second that John McCain doesn’t understand who is fighting in the Middle East”

ROTFLMAO! Yeah Lieberman was just whispering sweet nothings into McCain’s air.
Here’s proof McCain= Bush… Only older..but still just as dumb.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ERiQsdP4w9A

  42. rainlillie Says:

“And yes, maybe many of us are looking for that savior to restore this country’s economic stability, pride and unity we once had as a nation. May it only take four years to restore after the last eight years of destruction.”

    Amen to that.

  43. Sandy Says:

    # 36 Lisa,
I think you made a very good point.

    # 39 Dee & # 44 Rainlille,
I think we “all” are looking for and want that savior. Don’t you think? There is just a difference of opinion on who that could be.

  44. Sandy Says:

    # 36 Lisa,
    I think that’s a good point, I have to agree :)

    # 39 Dee & # 44 Rainlille,
I think we “all” are looking for and want that savior. Don’t you think? There is just a difference of opinion on who that could be.

We know it won’t be someone who has embraced the failed policies that haave gotten us into this mess. How many cliffs do we have to fall off, before we realize we need a new direction?

I’m not looking for a “savior” so to speak. I’m looking for someone who will be the opposite of Bush in every way..and McCain isn’t it.

  46. Sandy Says:

    so sorry for the duplicate.

  47. DeeDee Says:

Sherri’s gotten better & better at getting informed & educating herself & challenging Elisabeth’s stupid insights. She does it without hysterics too. So it’s no surprise she’s endorsing a Democrat!

    :)

  48. Sandy Says:

    # 47 rainlilie,
I understand, as I have just about the same feelings as you. I think the majority of us do. Our country is in a sad, sad, place, that’s not going to be easy to recover from.
I myself haven’t made up my mind whom I will vote for, not yet.

  49. anon Says:

I have had it with Whoopi and her skeptical face all the time. Enough with the ‘above it all’ puss.

  50. rainlillie Says:

“I myself haven’t made up my mind whom I will vote for, not yet.”

I’m happy to hear that Sandy.

  51. May Says:

Rainlillie, thanx for the Youtube bit showing McCain saying that AlQaeda is being trained in Iran. Liberman (former dem) had to correct him that the extremists were being trained in Iran. Oh boy, another bush,jr trying to make it to the WH. Spare us! Can’t you just see McCain answering the WH phone at 3a.m.? He’ll prob come out with his famous line, “bomb, bomb, bomb Iran”.

  52. Stacee Says:

“Also, I think it’s kind of silly for the co-hosts to treat Barack Obama like he is a Messiah (To me, it just seemed that they were all trying to make a favorable impression on the guy, and to me he is just a guy. period.)”

He’s not “just a guy. period” He was a GUEST.
Most hosts try to make a favorable impression to someone visiting. They do that to a lot of stars/people that come on the show.

  53. Sandy Says:

    # 52 rainlille,
I really do not want to mislead you.
I’m not so sure that you would be that happy with me. I really like senator Clinton, and hope that she gets the nomination. I am very much considering voting for her if she does. Although that looks doubtful.
If she doesn’t then, I’m really …I don’t know who I will vote for.

  54. rainlillie Says:

    You’re welcome May!

    Sandy,
I can’t tell you who you should vote for. I’m not a fan of Clinton’s or McCain’s. I think my issues with McCain are pretty much the same issues I have with Bush. The 100 year war thing is a turn off and his ignorance doesn’t help matters either. I think Hilary has shown bad judgment when it comes to her votes.

She voted for the war and she voted to label the Iranian guard a terrorists organization. I personally don’t think she’s anymore qualified than Laura Bush is to be president. She speaks of experience, but she hasn’t used that experience to make good choices.

Obama on the other hand, had the foresight to know that Iraq was a mistake, when he was running for the Senate and when the majority of the country were in favor of the war.

Those are the kind of qualities I look for in a leader. I also find Hilary to be cunning, and calculating. Which is pretty much how I feel about the current administration.

  55. Sandy Says:

    # 56 Rainlille,
I pretty much know your views. I read your blog every once in awhile. You are very on top of what is going on with the Bush Admin. and other political issues. It’s informative, and saves me times. I like to keep up with what is happening on both sides, and read a lot.
    :)

I hope that whoever is our next President can end the war in Iraq. I really have doubts about that though, no matter who it is. I fear that we will sooner or later be in some sort of conflict with Iran, no matter who we elect as well. I hope & pray I’m wrong.

  56. Sandy Says:

Sorry, I meant that our next president will be able to bring our troops home quickly and safety. The war in Iraq itself (sectarian violence) I don’t think will end for years to come.

  57. Helene401 Says:

On Dan Abrams’ show tonight there were clips from Sean Hannity praising Elisabeth for her fabulous “interview” of Obama on the View….

  58. annon Says:

Sean Hannity isn’t a Rhode Scholar. of course she would appeal to him and he would appeal to her. They’re in the same sinking boat.

    :-D

  59. maryellen Says:

Sean may not be a Rhodes Scholar, but he does have an honorary degree from Falwell’s Liberty University.
    :)

  60. annon Says:

Oh my! Now that’s very unimpressive. He really does come across as a dope on TV. No wonder EH likes him, they’re on the same level intellectually.

  61. maryellen Says:

    Uh … hell-O … I was being sarcastic.
    :)

  62. May Says:

Wow…how did I guess that Sean Hannity would ever praise EH for her “perfect interview” with Barok? I must be a mind reader..yeah that has to be it! When oh when is she ever going to quit “The View” and become a perfect pundit for faux newsshow? If Kathy Lee Gifford can get a job on tv again (Heaven help us all) then move over for EH to take over the news.
