The View March 4th Recap: Dr. Phil McGraw and RuPaul
Today on The View the scheduled guests are Dr. Phil and RuPaul. Feel free to comment here during the show. My recap will be up later tonight. (sorry! I have work committments during the day today. I know that now more than ever you need the recap to avoid watching yourself, but the delay is unavoidable today).
The View, Elisabeth Hasselbeck, Joy Behar, Whoopi Goldberg, Sherri Shepherd, Barbara Walters, Dr. Phi McGraw, RuPaul

March 4th, 2009 at 8:07 am
I’m so glad I’m going out for coffee. I’ll read the recap. I’ll spew my rants. Pretty soon I’ll have to give this up. I’m coming, rain!!
March 4th, 2009 at 9:18 am
i agree, i think it may be time to let go. eh’s constant puckering, finger in the face, let’s take a look attitude. sherri’s top-heavy, man-chasing religious hypocrisy, whoop’s doo-doo point of view, and bw’s fading self-important attitude just bother me more than anything. it’s not relevant anymore. i am ready for change.
March 4th, 2009 at 9:26 am
But the guest combo of Dr Phil and RuPaul could be a hoot, one must admit…
March 4th, 2009 at 9:27 am
Imagine the comments those two guests could exchange in the green room offstage…
March 4th, 2009 at 9:29 am
Dr Phil and RuPaul on the same show?
Maybe RuPaul will be able to “cure” Dr. Phil
March 4th, 2009 at 9:36 am
#5 Roger ROFL!!
March 4th, 2009 at 9:42 am
I predict that someone will be bitch-slapped.
March 4th, 2009 at 9:48 am
i think i will tune in..against my better judgement.
i’m interested to see the interaction between “i look like i’m sucking a lemon, puss” and rupaul.
March 4th, 2009 at 9:54 am
recap: sorry! I have work committments during the day today.
OMG WINNIE!!! How can you allow REAL life get in the way of our FANTASY life? Dang it!!
March 4th, 2009 at 10:02 am
So Barbara Walters would rather die than spend time with Elisabeth?
March 4th, 2009 at 10:03 am
Let the bitch-slapping begin!!!
March 4th, 2009 at 10:04 am
Barbara turned down Elisabeth’s invitation to her Bachelor party. Apparently BW still has some control of her faculties.
March 4th, 2009 at 10:06 am
VIEW PRODUCERS: Since when did this show become a reality show recap show? If you are trying to drive away viewers you are succeeding.
They may as well change the name of the show to Elisabeth’s View, because they only seem to talk about things EH is interested in.
March 4th, 2009 at 10:08 am
It has to be said to those of you that believe in American Idol
This is no different than a karaoke contest….. they decide who can sing by trying to emulate actual singers.
March 4th, 2009 at 10:10 am
Whoopi “what am I gonna do for a couple of hours”?
How about a little research on Hot Topics that you are planning to discuss.
March 4th, 2009 at 10:12 am
Now, now, WG hates the internet! Even though she blogs on wowowow.com. OTOH she may be waiting for a Hot Topic to come along.
March 4th, 2009 at 10:18 am
what name do u post under Mary? I post on wOw…. but it is turning into wing nut heaven …. all of the right wing nutcases have taken over that site…. and the wOw staff has allowed it.
They even go on Fox to promote that site.
Im just glad that Winnie put her foot down and didnt allow this site to become like that site is now.
This is a great site!!
March 4th, 2009 at 10:24 am
Good lord…. Berndoubt goes out for coffee and no one steps up, this leaves me taking to myself.
Where are you Pepperbird? Susieq, any observations? Heatherspeaks, Mary Evans…. dont be shy ladies…. tell us what you think.
I dont mind talking to myself…. but dont make me start disagreeing with myself too!!!
March 4th, 2009 at 10:26 am
Whoopi dressed up in red for Dr. Phil’s visit today…or was it for RuPaul? No drab little mouse outfit, for once.
March 4th, 2009 at 10:29 am
Imagine that…….
The View is having a guest on just to bash another person….. how is this supposed to help or inform anyone?
March 4th, 2009 at 10:30 am
Roger, I’ve been her for a half hour. Stop daydreaming about Joy and FOCUS on us here.
Anyways, having Dr. Phil on is just the View’s roundabout way to being able to talk about the Octomom without BW being able to get an interview. Pathetic.
March 4th, 2009 at 10:31 am
How many foster children has Dr Phil helped out? not his show…. but him and his wife?
going out preaching to others doesnt help out anyone.
March 4th, 2009 at 10:32 am
Keep challenging him Joy!!
Keep him stuttering, he doesnt expect his thoughts to be challenged.
March 4th, 2009 at 10:33 am
Dr Phil is weirdly obsessed with Octomom, in my opinion. He’s had a couple of his own shows in the same week concentrating on her, and gave his opinions soon after that on Larry King Live too. Now on the View he says he’s spent lots of time off-camera with Octomom too. He says his intentions are pure, but he’s either unhealthily obsessed or sees big bucks in it for himself.
March 4th, 2009 at 10:33 am
Is Bernie Madoff on home confinement? Mr. Susieq spent on 6 mos on hc a while back (for a DUI) and he wasn’t even allowed to walk outside to our mailbox. Madoff being allowed to continue to live a life of luxury is a DISGRACE. When he’s convicted I hope they literally take everything from him. And as far as his wife goes, hey if she enjoyed the spoils from his scheme then she should have to suffer the consequences too.
March 4th, 2009 at 10:35 am
Pepperbird, Dr. (yeah right) Phil is an opportunist. His only interest in helping Octomom is for his own self-interest.
March 4th, 2009 at 10:35 am
Hey Roger! Actually I don’t read wowowow often and I’ve never posted there. But I saw you today on Leslie interviews Mika. But appreciate your comments on the wing nuts there, kinda clarified why I don’t go over more often. Can’t stand Mika, btw.
March 4th, 2009 at 10:37 am
So Dr Phil’s “solution” for this woman is to split up all 8 newborns and adopt them out?
So then the press will have 8 more families to harass and report on….. when has it ever been a good thing to split up a family?
March 4th, 2009 at 10:40 am
susieq #21: “Anyways, having Dr. Phil on is just the View’s roundabout way to being able to talk about the Octomom without BW being able to get an interview.”
Brilliant insight! ITA. He seems markedly tense too, and so far is avoiding eye-contact.
March 4th, 2009 at 10:40 am
#24 Pepperbird–
He says his intentions are pure, but he’s either unhealthily obsessed or sees big bucks in it for himself.
He better be careful…. remember when he tried to “help” Britney Spears? He was charged with practicing medicine without a license.
Dr Phil is a hack…. remember when he put his fat butt on a diet book?
March 4th, 2009 at 10:43 am
Imagine that—-
Another “celebrity” defending Chris Brown…. a fine individual.
March 4th, 2009 at 10:44 am
Well, he seemed to be avoiding eye-contact with Baba.
March 4th, 2009 at 10:46 am
#21 susieq–
Roger, I’ve been her for a half hour. Stop daydreaming about Joy and FOCUS on us here
I knew you were here…. that was why you were included in my post…. but you werent being very vocal….. and I have to daydream about Joy…. you dont want me the way she wants me.
March 4th, 2009 at 10:48 am
Yes Roger, I was also thinking of how he seemed obsessed with helping Britney, to the point of being intrusive.
Part of me wants to believe that Dr. Phil does care about improving the world and helping people.
March 4th, 2009 at 10:50 am
OK, I talked to someone over at TWOP who went to the View Monday. During commercial breaks they asked the ladies questions. Elisabeth was asked if she knows the sex of her baby and she said no. Her reason, she said she procastinates.
Isn’t procastination when you put off doing something you DON’T want to do? What is wrong with her?
March 4th, 2009 at 10:54 am
#18 Roger, Aw shucks, Rog, I’d have come out to play, but you didn’t call on me.
March 4th, 2009 at 10:54 am
Let me say this a man should never and i mean never hit a women. But i do see were Whoopi was coming from because you having this Man who was a nice man never hit you, But you have these women and there are some out there who hit on there men every time they get into and argument and the men never do nothing, but one day you caught that dude on the wrong day and you started to hit him and he lose it and slap you, then the women come back to reality and say OH no i’ am a women you should never hit me well you should never hit a man either. and people are talking in that what happen in the Chris and Rhianna case. But Dr. Phil was right you should run away but people are human.
March 4th, 2009 at 10:59 am
I just realized that Dr. Phil was supposed to explain why he and Robin will never get divorced. But he didn’t mention that after all.
March 4th, 2009 at 10:59 am
#21 Susieq, very keen observation about BW not being able to get an octomom interview.
March 4th, 2009 at 11:04 am
That green pleather jacket Elisabeth was wearing was way too tight. I was so hoping Sherri would reach over and at least let that zipper down a bit. I felt strangled just looking at her in that!
She tried to get into it with Rupaul defending Texas BBQ wife Laura Bush over how ’strong’ she is. She can’t take it when anyone compliments Michelle Obama. Glad Whoopi cut her off.
March 4th, 2009 at 11:05 am
#35 susieq: Bitsy probably doesn’t know the sex of her baby because the baby was a surprise and she doesn’t really care. She can use the baby to get preferential treatment and special attention, and then retire from the show afterwards.
March 4th, 2009 at 11:08 am
“I just realized that Dr. Phil was supposed to explain why he and Robin will never get divorced. But he didn’t mention that after all.”
Pepperbird, the ladies are only interested in talking about important things. You know like Octomom and the CB/RH. I’m surprised they didn’t ask him about the Bachelor and AI.
Oh yeah, Sherri likes being entertained by dragqueens. Isn’t that nice, she just doesn’t want the gay ones to be able marry but as long as they make her smile all is right in her world.
March 4th, 2009 at 11:11 am
I’m worried about Joy. She seemed fairly preoccupied and quiet. I don’t record the show, so I can’t review my initial impression.
March 4th, 2009 at 11:12 am
(1.) Women smack men around all the time. If the guy calls the cops, the woman have to face possible arrest and consequences. Whoopi had a point. No one should be hitting anyone else, period. Ever.
(2.) Barbara W. looked like an alien had perched next to her on the couch when RuPaul sat down. Then, of course, she had to start telling him what a transvestite was and wasn’t! She just is the expert on it all…..Rupaul’s too much of a lady to tell her to shut the hell up.
(3.) Elisabeth just had to defend Laura Bush when the conversation was about Michelle Obama! Laura Bush was a lovely First Lady but she took a back seat to the politics whereas Hillary did not nor will Michelle IMO. I see both Hillary and Michelle as strong, brilliant and highly educated women- as capable as their husbands to be President of the US. Laura Bush, also educated, I never saw as being presidential material- but a good person and she served the country well. We don’t need that shrilling EH to tell us that…….
I am with berndoubt, etc. This show sucks big time and is getting worse not better. I may come here to read Winnie’s recap but my 10AM daily hour will be spent doing something smarter than watch that crapfest………..
March 4th, 2009 at 11:18 am
I posted this a couple days ago.. and there was never a response to it….. maybe today will be different.
The first thing that I heard about the Chris Brown/Rihanna “incident” was there was a stripper in the limo with them……. after that first report…. I have not heard anything else about a 3rd party.
Does anyone else know anything about that?
March 4th, 2009 at 11:21 am
#36 ds–
#18 Roger, Aw shucks, Rog, I’d have come out to play, but you didn’t call on me.
Id never leave you out.
that little rant of mine was to the people that were posting before the show, but when the show was on they stopped posting. Maybe Im the only one with the computer and TV in the same room.
March 4th, 2009 at 11:21 am
#44 lynn c (3). This is one of the reasons I find her unwatchable. Her specialty is bashing anyone on the other side, it doesn’t matter what the conversation is ever about. She never misses an opportunity to do this, further proving her stupidity.
March 4th, 2009 at 11:22 am
#46 Roger, thanks, I feel alot better now.
March 4th, 2009 at 11:23 am
#40 Vegas–
That green leather jacket Elisabeth was wearing was way too tight. I was so hoping Sherri would reach over and at least let that zipper down a bit. I felt strangled just looking at her in that!
I had just the opponent thought. I thought, if they snap that top snap…. she wouldnt be able to speak as well.
March 4th, 2009 at 11:24 am
I wish that instead of having AI and the Batchelor as hot topics, the panel would address a real one, brought to our attention by the Associated Press:
Certain Russian analysts are predicting:
*Barack Obama will order martial law this year
*USA will collapse in 2010 and divide into six parts before 2011
*Russia and China will be leaders in a new world order
*Alaska will revert to Russian control
He’d better rethink his gloating, in my opinion. This is a world economy now, and all of our fates are intertwined.
March 4th, 2009 at 11:31 am
#50 Pepperbird–
He’d better rethink his gloating, in my opinion. This is a world economy now, and all of our fates are intertwined
Who is gloating?
Certain Russian analysts are predicting:
What was the last thing that these Russian “analysts” predicted correctly?
March 4th, 2009 at 11:33 am
Vegas - I totally agree about that green sausage stuffer!!! I had unzip my own hoodie just to breathe myself!! She looked like a made over Dominatrix with that lime green pleather jacket and sour puss. I am sure her whip was under the table ready for a lashing for anyone who disagrees with her.
I’m just saying…
March 4th, 2009 at 11:33 am
#45 Roger- Well, I wasn’t there, but Chris and Rihanna were in a sportscar, Chris driving. So there wasn’t a limo involved or a third person although Chris had allegedly been texted a message from an unknown woman.
March 4th, 2009 at 11:38 am
Everyone is always talking about whether EH is playing a role by sticking to her republican talking points and never waivering.. even when her arguments are riduculous and I’ve wondered that too. And people have also mentioned that she keeps having kids to get more publicity for herself (which she definitely does when she’s pregnant). So anyways, I read something interesting recently about one of the women who auditioned for that empty seat left by Lisa Ling. She mentioned how the producers (BW and BG I guess) were specifically looking for someone who had conservative views and someone who would get pregnant in the next year so that she would be able to connect to the young moms who were watching. So I guess, you all were right, the way EH acts is part of her role.. thats what she was hired for and thats how she’s expected to act. I dont know if thats better or worse though..?
March 4th, 2009 at 11:46 am
Here’s the excerpt:
“A few years ago, I almost landed my dream job, filling the chair left by Lisa Ling on The View. I sat in for a couple of episodes, had some wholesome, well-lit laughs with Barbara Walters, trotted out on stage arm-in-arm with new BFF Meredith Vieira and felt an almost narcotic sense of belonging. Despite a career characterized mainly by bad, impetuous decisions to quit jobs and paralyzing self-doubt, I began to think: I could do this. I was about to link elbows with destiny, as I had with Meredith, who when you get close to her smells like a combination of baby powder, lilacs, and poise.
As my cab sped toward JFK to fly home after taping my second episode of The View, producers called my agent to say I was one of their top choices. Before I even checked my bags curbside, we agreed on contractual terms.
I spent that flight envisioning my move from Los Angeles to a furnished apartment on the Upper West Side. I fantasized about the breezy rapport and private jokes I would have with the full-time driver they promised, the non-pretentious but clearly expensive collection of Burberry trench coats I would acquire, and of course, the non-stop cold splash of “I told you so” my new post would throw in the faces of anyone who had doubted me. It would be hard to keep up my persona of self-deprecation with near toxic levels of smug coursing through my veins, but I would manage.
By the time I landed at LAX, I was out of the running.
The producers said not only did they want a conservative, but also, they really needed someone who was likely to get pregnant in the coming season. I was single at the time. Just like that, I was plunged back into an obscurity so profound it made Debbie Matenopoulos look like Gwyneth Paltrow. I cried like the babies Elizabeth Hasselbeck would eventually have, endearing her not only to her bosses at The View, but to the stay-at-home moms of America.”
It was at hmonthly dot com. By the way, the woman who wrote that is Teresa Strasser, she used to be the host of “While You Were Out”, I used to watch that show all the time
March 4th, 2009 at 11:52 am
#51 Roger: It was a Russian analyst/spokesperson. Maybe ignoring him is the best strategy, on second thought.
March 4th, 2009 at 11:53 am
Hmmm, very interesting, Stephanie, thank you for sharing that.
March 4th, 2009 at 12:03 pm
I am sorry about this, you guys, but can you stand one last recap about the Bachelor? I found this too funny to resist sharing, but if you never speak to me again, I’ll understand. Last night, on After the Final Rose 2, don’t know if any of you caught this, but ABC presented the smarmy, sleazy, “happy” couple with a special “gift”. While awaiting presentation of said gift, you could tell that the couple hoped it might be something like a fully paid for dream wedding in some exotic tropical locale. It turned out to be the actual tent they stayed in one night during the taping of the show! Their original den of iniquity! I guess ABC not only thought this was a very fitting gift for these people, but also that no matter how many times they hosed down the tent, it would never be usuable again!
Could not resist sharing this tidbit. A huge thank you to Winnie for letting us go off topic now and then.
March 4th, 2009 at 12:07 pm
If Alaska reverts to Russian control we’d at least be free of Sarah Palin………(sorry, people, I am just FED up with the waste of a great Am TV slot wasted on such a poop buffet)
#55: Very interesting thoughts, thanks for sharing the post, I’ll look it up. Can you imagine interviewing for a job where they’d WANT you to be pregnant??? Is that even legal? It sure isn’t legal to ask about pregnancies……..
I think we all give this stupid show too much importance. If you watch Keith or Rachel or even Leno and the latenighters, they aren’t taking The View seriously. Or Rush and the GOPers. Or little Elisabeth H. And by the time the primetime shows come on, whatever junk happened earlier in the morning on The View seem petty and insipid and irrelevant indeed. Mainly, other hosts show cips from The View when the women are screaming and fighting or saying something completely wacko………..
March 4th, 2009 at 12:08 pm
“clips” not cips, oops….
March 4th, 2009 at 12:24 pm
Stephanie - Thanks for sharing that post re: Teresa Strasser. Very, very interetsting . I also know who she is; she also had a short gig on New York local station channel 5, the local Fox affiliate.
Yea, they were looking for a conservative gal who was ready to pump out babies. Remember, Rachel Campos? She also tried out for the gig along with Hasselbeck. She was also a former reality star, A Real World alum,(apparently great experience for The View gig), who was and still is a rabid Republican. She has since had 5 or 6 kids, and is about the same age has Hasselbobble.
March 4th, 2009 at 12:27 pm
#61 Diane, I remember Rachel Campos and at the time I thought it would be her.
March 4th, 2009 at 12:37 pm
It was widely suspected Elisabeth was chosen to be the fertile Conservative. Who know, maybe she gets a bonus everytime she gets pregnant. Apparently TPTB were more interested in her reproductive organs than her brain.
March 4th, 2009 at 12:50 pm
Stephanie #55 thanks so much for posting Teresa Strasser’s post! She would have been a great addition to the show. She’s such an intelligent, and has a warm and engaging personality.
EH can have as many children as she pleases, but I really don’t get the great maternal vibe from her. I wonder how many young mothers can even relate to her? Contrast EH to when Rosie was on the show. It was so obvious that Rosie just adored being a mom.
The sad part is that EH always seems to have far more enthusiasm when talking about stupid reality shows than when she mentions her husband or children. These hot topics reality show recaps are just silly.
March 4th, 2009 at 12:58 pm
Whoopi, please! Just stop it! NOTHING Rihana could have done to Chrissie Brown should have led to that terrible beating. Sherri, when news first broke of this, you said ‘they’re just kiiiddds’ (whiney voice emphasis mine) A couple of days ago, you said she’s a grown woman and can choose what she wants. Personally, if she goes back to him, she’s not that grown. Legal, maybe. And I wasn’t there either. None of us were. Who cares? So what? It doesn’t take a genius to figure some things up.
March 4th, 2009 at 12:59 pm
#63 susieq, I didn’t know at the time that it was widely suspected EH would be the one. I just remember thinking that Rachel handled herself so much better than that twit from Survivor.
#64 real, We can expect alot more reality crap for hot topics, with Dancing (another ABC show) starting next week and they never let up on AI, and really, it’s just heating up too, with the selection of the top 12.
March 4th, 2009 at 1:00 pm
Just another reminder:
Did you all see Keith O. last night with guest Michael Musto (from the Village Voice) ??? They were discussing the ridiculous-ness of The Bachelor - and M. Musto disses Hasselbooble BIG TIME. You have to hear the interview.
Check out Rainlillie’s site where she was nice to post the 5 min. video for us.(scroll down on her site). Or you can go visit Keith at MSNBC.
March 4th, 2009 at 1:10 pm
Musto was fabulous on Countdown last night!
Man, I am so sick of The Bachelor and AI talk - 11 minutes this morning! and DWTS starts next week. Sigh
It seems to me WG is always “we weren’t there” when it’s a celebrity but when they’re not then she doesn’t hold back - like with Madoff this morning.
They may have wanted someone that may get pregnant when they hired EH, and the timing was probably right for her. But to represent a young mother she fails. She seems thrilled to be pregnant, but not being a mom. Never heard a word about Taylor’s first step, first word - nothing really except his food chart, dirt cake that she “baked” and that his hobby is rooting through the garbage.
March 4th, 2009 at 1:12 pm
Michael Musto seems like the type that Would diss EH. The Village Voice? You can’t more lib than that. Must be nice up there in the E. 70’s or even the W. 50’s, for that matter. Nicely nested next to The Park.***Oh, btw, I too don’t think EH showed us her home. Why shld sh? Hey, people make their cubbies feel like home. They do have dressing rooms, and I think families are welcome. That was work time. And it was probably impromptu, hence the ‘natural look’ and odd turtle neck as part of the wedding ensemble. (??) An act, like all else.
March 4th, 2009 at 1:13 pm
#59 lynn c : “If you watch Keith or Rachel or even Leno and the latenighters, they aren’t taking The View seriously…other hosts show clips from The View when the women are screaming and fighting or saying something completely wacko”. True, but why not try to change their perception of the show by improving its hot topics?
BTW, Larry King’s show usually boosts the View and draws positive attention to it.
March 4th, 2009 at 1:15 pm
Maybe I should have said I suspected it. I think they were trying to get the same audience that watched Kathie Lee and Kelly Ripa.
And it’s kinda ironic considering Elisabeth talks very little about her kids. I can understand not wanting to bring her kids into the limelight but there are soooo many issues her and Sherri too, could be discussing. Everytime EH tells a story about her kids there’s always some “greater” message in it. Who does she think she is? Aesop? And Sherri, when talking about Jeffrey always makes it sound like a comedy bit.
March 4th, 2009 at 1:16 pm
#71 “Who does she think she is? Aesop?” LOL!
March 4th, 2009 at 1:21 pm
I forgot to add that yes, when they tell stories about their kids it seems very unnatural, I can’t put my finger on it, but why is that?
March 4th, 2009 at 1:21 pm
“It seems to me WG is always “we weren’t there” when it’s a celebrity but when they’re not then she doesn’t hold back - like with Madoff this morning.”
She doesn’t want to burn any bridges with any celebs. The same as Barbara Walters. God forbid BW or WG criticizes someone they might want to hobknob with in the future.
Someone over at TWOP told me at the View on Monday someone in the audience asked how Barbara keeps her eternal youthful appearance (must have been a blind person). She said it was exercise and being comfortable by wearing her own clothes on the show. I think that was her snooty way of saying “Yes, these very expensive, designer clothes come from my closet. Don’t I have exquisite taste?” And if by exercise she means, bending down to kiss celebs asses, I’ll buy that.
March 4th, 2009 at 1:24 pm
#74 susieq, excellent point, I would have hoped Whoopi would be above that behaviour, but what you said sure seems to be ringing true.
March 4th, 2009 at 1:25 pm
Kathy Lee route. Everywhere I’ve worked there were mothers eager to talk about their kids. Some people liked, some…She knows she’s noWell, I think EH doesn’t want to go the t well taken and wants to play it safe. So, the producers tell them to come up w/stories. They do, but EH always gives us reports on GH’s tantrums. TH might not give her that much material. Both EH and SS make mommyhood sound exhausting. Let’s hear it from the older mommies!
March 4th, 2009 at 1:26 pm
#74 susieq Yep, the hypocrisy never ends. And BW’s comments sound alot like pilates and diet!
March 4th, 2009 at 1:26 pm
“I forgot to add that yes, when they tell stories about their kids it seems very unnatural, I can’t put my finger on it, but why is that?”
This is JMO but it doesn’t seem like she telling the story because it’s something that was funny or touching or whatever, it’s that she’s telling the story to put forth her (or Sean Hannity’s) agenda. Like Grace commenting on the troops in Central Park or Grace wanting to cut out pics of Sasha and Malia. Doesn’t Grace or Taylor ever just be kids? Like draw on the walls or I don’t know, say “Mommy can I go play with Vivi and Blake.”
March 4th, 2009 at 1:28 pm
It was amusing to see BW sitting next to RuPaul and wordlessly checking him out, wide-eyed, from the top of his head to his crossed ankles. Baba’s eyes were simply on stalks, and he wasn’t even dressed up.
March 4th, 2009 at 1:29 pm
I think Kathie Lee and Kelly were able to tell (usually) cute stories about their young children. Loved when KL called her daughter “casserole.”
EH really lucked out because Rosie came aboard and had tons of stories about her kids.
There are some questioning whether it really was Jeffrey Jr pulling the wagon last week.
March 4th, 2009 at 1:38 pm
Oops, posting not complete! I wrote that EH probably doesn’t want to go the KLG route and be critized for talking about her kids nonstop. Frankly, whenever she talks about GH, I say “Oh, boy! Here we go!”.
March 4th, 2009 at 1:47 pm
#74 susieq: “…someone in the audience asked how Barbara keeps her eternal youthful appearance”.
Baba has people who know how to make her live to be 150 with new body parts (remember her special on that in 2008?).

“Baba has people who know how to make her live to be 150 with new body parts (remember her special on that in 2008?).”
Oh yeah, Pepperbird, I forgot about that. So we’ve got what, 70 more years of Oscar Specials and Fascinating People. When Bill Geddie kicks the bucket maybe Tim Hasselbeck will take over as executive producer. He’s already got a start on the balding requirement.

Rosie had a way of discussing her kids and making it sound interesting, relatable and fun.
Same during the guest segments; she asked good questions and seemed to make the guests feel at ease. I also enjoyed the cooking and product segments.
I’m a little confused here: someone actually thinks BW has a “youthful appearance”? Really??
Really????
Not saying that there is something wrong with looking mature in age, but “youthful appearance” is probably the last thing I would use in describing Barbara.
March 4th, 2009 at 2:22 pm
Stacee, the exact quote was “eternally youthful”. If that person means full of plastic, OK.
I forgot one of the best tidbits she told me. Before they discussed Twitter Barbara actually asked the audience what Twitter was. And then when they went on air BW acts all “hip and with it” you know like she has peeps or whatever and talks about Twitter like she understands it. Didn’t Elisabeth or someone else even tell BW how cool she was? If BW is going to lie about Twitter then she sure as hell is going to lie about everything else. Pathetic.
March 4th, 2009 at 2:27 pm
susieq: Must add that ITA with your insight of Barbara’s “snooty way of saying ‘Yes, these very expensive, designer clothes come from my closet. Don’t I have exquisite taste?’”. Her phoney sympathy for the less-fortunate is painful. Funny that her expensive duds were decorated with a big wad of forgotten scotch tape on Monday!
March 4th, 2009 at 2:45 pm
susieq Says: ” Stacee, the exact quote was “eternally youthful”. If that person means full of plastic, OK. ”
MY RESPONSE: Ahhh, eternally youthful.
O.M.G.
Yeah, surgery helps. Funny she did not mention that. Wonder why not? Hmmm
I do feel she looks nice for her age. I love and admire the way she dresses; she dons clothes that are great for her body type, shape, great colors and appropriate. I think she has great taste and it looks effortless.
But no way do I feel she has an eternally youthful appearance.
March 4th, 2009 at 2:46 pm
Yes, her stories involving her children always seem bogus and forced, she has an agenda, and seems to always want to “teach us a lesson”. I never believed the nonsense about Grace asking about the troops in Central Park, or wanting to listen to tapes of Beverly Sills (BW’s BFF).
I think that may have been the real Jeffrey last week, just because Sherri made a gushy remark something like “oh, there’s my baby!”.
March 4th, 2009 at 2:50 pm
Rog,
I hear you about the WoWoWoW board. I went over there the other day and was like…
“Ohhhh, OK so THIS is where they hang out!!!”
It was straight up scary!

I caught Michael Musto on Keith last night and about fell on the floor….finally, someone telling it like it is!!!!
March 4th, 2009 at 3:11 pm
Yes, that was a great commentary from Michael Musto
March 4th, 2009 at 3:41 pm
I was so happy to see Musto on Countdown. I thought Keith was thrilled to be on The View and emailed him to set him straight about EH - you know, little things like she loved Bush, was a Hannity microphone, supported Iraq, was against gays marrying, and her views about the “unfortunate” troops and ‘where are the parents”. I truly don’t think he was aware. I’m sure others wrote as well, of course. LOL

I got this in an email today….. please clink the link
Lifetime wants to pay the Anthony family 2 million dollars for a movie about the Caylee Anthony case. Please sign to stop this madness, the parents are blinded and the money will go to the murderer herself.
Stop the Insanity!!!!
I know that there are many activists on this site….. thanks for your time.

Roger, that is horrifying, what an outrage!

I forgot to add that yes, when they tell stories about their kids it seems very unnatural, I can’t put my finger on it, but why is that?
Because it is all an act….. There is no realism in either of their stories…. Real people dont interact with their kids the way Sherri and Elisabeth “claim” to act with their kids.
March 4th, 2009 at 4:20 pm
I hope this link helps to stop the madness.
March 4th, 2009 at 4:20 pm
lol love Rupaul and lol at EH trying to make a case for Laura Bush who is great but traditional woman and it certianly seems that MO is a strong woman (I mean pres BO has even said she can take me downa peg and is one of the people who can make him (cool calm pres)mad.)

Roger i have to ask you dont have to answer have you ever worn a dress?
Of course I have worn dresses…. I have an older sister and a younger sister….. but it has been quite a while.
I will be honest though…. I want to dress in drag for Halloween sometime….. before I gained all of this weight… I would have been a babe.
March 4th, 2009 at 4:44 pm
Opps…maybe if I would have scrolled up juat a tiny bit….
My bad!
March 4th, 2009 at 4:46 pm
Oh…. Ill tell the story…. when I was like 11 or 12…. my sister thought I would make a great girl scout for Halloween… Mom thought it was a great idea…
So they dolled me all up and sneaked me out the back door. I knocked on the front door and asked fr my sister….. dad lead me into the other room and had no clue who I was.
March 4th, 2009 at 4:47 pm
Do any of the “moderation” posts actually go through?
March 4th, 2009 at 4:54 pm
Roger…I’ve always known the truth! You dirty little conservative!
Porn in the USA: Conservatives are biggest consumers
Americans may paint themselves in increasingly bright shades of red and blue, but new research finds one thing that varies little across the nation: the liking for online pornography.
A new nationwide study (pdf) of anonymised credit-card receipts from a major online adult entertainment provider finds little variation in consumption between states.
“When it comes to adult entertainment, it seems people are more the same than different,” says Benjamin Edelman at Harvard Business School.
However, there are some trends to be seen in the data. Those states that do consume the most porn tend to be more conservative and religious than states with lower levels of consumption, the study finds.
“Some of the people who are most outraged turn out to be consumers of the very things they claimed to be outraged by,” Edelman says.
Political divide
Edelman spends part of his time helping companies such as Microsoft and AOL detect advertising fraud. Another consulting client runs dozens of adult websites, though he says he is not at liberty to identify the firm.
That company did, however, provide Edelman with roughly two years of credit card data from 2006 to 2008 that included a purchase date and each customer’s postal code.
After controlling for differences in broadband internet access between states – online porn tends to be a bandwidth hog – and adjusting for population, he found a relatively small difference between states with the most adult purchases and those with the fewest.
The biggest consumer, Utah, averaged 5.47 adult content subscriptions per 1000 home broadband users; Montana bought the least with 1.92 per 1000. “The differences here are not so stark,” Edelman says.
Number 10 on the list was West Virginia at 2.94 subscriptions per 1000, while number 41, Michigan, averaged 2.32.
Eight of the top 10 pornography consuming states gave their electoral votes to John McCain in last year’s presidential election – Florida and Hawaii were the exceptions. While six out of the lowest 10 favoured Barack Obama.
Old-fashioned values
Church-goers bought less online porn on Sundays – a 1% increase in a postal code’s religious attendance was associated with a 0.1% drop in subscriptions that day. However, expenditures on other days of the week brought them in line with the rest of the country, Edelman finds.
Residents of 27 states that passed laws banning gay marriages boasted 11% more porn subscribers than states that don’t explicitly restrict gay marriage.
To get a better handle on other associations between social attitudes and pornography consumption, Edelman melded his data with a previous study on public attitudes toward religion.
States where a majority of residents agreed with the statement “I have old-fashioned values about family and marriage,” bought 3.6 more subscriptions per thousand people than states where a majority disagreed. A similar difference emerged for the statement “AIDS might be God’s punishment for immoral sexual behaviour.”
“One natural hypothesis is something like repression: if you’re told you can’t have this, then you want it more,” Edelman says.

Stacee, I actually like most of BW’s clothes too. It’s a sophisticated classy look which I like. Too bad I can’t say the same thing about BW the person.
Elisabeth’s clothes all over the map. Today, green leather, pleather, whatever, really!!!??? The jean jacket a while back. And sometimes I swear it looks like she’s wearing Garanimals. I think her or her “stylist” are trying different things to see if something catches on.
Sherri’s clothes accentuate her bustline too much. It looks like they’re squeezing bowling balls into a golf ball case.
I love Joy but she dresses too safe.
And Whoopi, please, the less said the better.

not till much later Jennie….
If there is a link in your post, it is better to put the link under the name and email address ….. where it says Website.
If it has any smiley faces…. just use 1…… other than that I dont know why it would be in moderation.

pepperbird - about phil discussing divorce and Robin - Robin probably told him DON’T YOU DARE discuss this (I read they are always on the verge of divorce). As for re-seeing The View - click on my name and there are daily clips at the link/website (formerly lester94111 at youtube) by Lester who opened up his own blog to put up daily clips of The View and Ellen Degeneres.
susieq - I totally agree about Madoff and his wife…keep reading on what she knew and what her assets are and where she got them from (the latter info to be available pretty soon online so I read).
southernexplosion: Totally agree with you about men shouldn’t strike women because the ONE MAJOR difference between men and women is physical strength - a man should never hit a woman. I also believe one shouldn’t punch someone who is wearing eyeglasses in the face either, but I grew up in a different time (the 50s) and we were taught those things.

pepperbird said: “….the panel would address a real one, brought to our attention by the Associated Press:
Certain Russian analysts are predicting:
*Barack Obama will order martial law this year
*USA will collapse in 2010 and divide into six parts before 2011
*Russia and China will be leaders in a new world order
*Alaska will revert to Russian control
He’d better rethink his gloating, in my opinion. This is a world economy now, and all of our fates are intertwined.”

and they may be right -
please google NWO (New World Order), The American 21st Century, and the CFR (Council for Foreign Relations, of which Michelle and Barack are members). Then read all about the FEMA camps in the USA, there’s like 600-800 of them (concentration/interment camps) - each one holds 20,000 people - easy math. They are being manned by US Marines and are devoid of inmates - so what are they for exactly? hmmmmmmmmm?
very scary world (USA) we now live in, who knew how things would change and change they will…this is just the icing on the cake…I hope I’m dead way before all this comes down.
I WILL DIE FOR FREEDOM, not just mine either.

real said: “EH can have as many children as she pleases, but I really don’t get the great maternal vibe from her. I wonder how many young mothers can even relate to her? Contrast EH to when Rosie was on the show. It was so obvious that Rosie just adored being a mom.”
Personally, and duckin’ from Kelly here, I think Octo-Mom has more maternal instinct than EH.

roger - I read today that Lifetime is 50% owned by DISNEY! Hope the petition helps but probably not - because it’s DISNEY.
American Idol just opened up a huge center in Walt Disney World too FYI - it’s a huge building/exhibit - so now Fox TV7 and Disney are hooked up too.
blech………………..
Disney is running this country. LOL

I’m leaving the martini shaker for Friday fun and heading for the door. I’m sorry that “The View” has become such a bad example of trying to showcase what women think; it’s embarrassing.
I’ve joined our version of ‘meals on wheels’ and will spend five hours a week helping those less fortunate rather than listen to the drivel that has become “The View”.
I enjoyed your company a whole lot, but feel that the entire tone of the show, and therefore the blog, has changed so profoundly that there is no way to condone my time spent hoping for change.
I wanted to say this yesterday, but as I was trying to explain in writing what I was feeling, Rainlillie, (very succinctly), said why she was no longer watching the show. I concur with what she said, and will not support any show that is supposedly about women that think parties for reality shows, represent what we as women want to talk about.
So…so… many smart, funny, wise and caring peeps here…
March 4th, 2009 at 5:52 pm
That thinks
March 4th, 2009 at 5:53 pm
No offense, but I’m applauding everyone who is stating they are fed up and no longer going to watch The View. I stopped watching months ago. Occasionally I will go see a clip (Judge Judy clip I sought out yesterday at yakety yak but today for me and my children to see. She said some important things about motherhood.)
I am working when the View is on but I used to stop and watch and I loved the first 9 years, but these last 3 years are really beneath us and every single day it seemingly is worse and worse according to your own posts here and over at TWOP, it’s so much better for my blood pressure to read the blogs (thanks Winnie!!) than to actually watch EH and BW and then Whoopi. Yet I seek Joy out on LKL and anywhere else she is going to be. I don’t have any bad feelings about Sheri except she needs to continue to educate herself which maybe she is.
To have a 20-something-year-old male choose women’s hot topics just reeks to me…..and who is behind that but the stinky Bill Geddie and Brian Frons who think they have a hit but really they haven’t got a clue! (No offense to 20-something-year-olds.)
Yep Roger - A Mickey Mouse country - you got it.
March 4th, 2009 at 7:20 pm
Ditto Miamivision.
If it wasn’t for this site I would stop watching. I don’t understand how ratings can be up. Since Rosie left I have not heard anyone say that the View is good. Well, maybe on days that Elisabeth is absent, but even EH fans find criticism with the show because they usually don’t like Joy.
Even when the View gets a good review by a magazine or something, they always highlight the hostility and controversy. Like those are pluses. I miss the old View. Before it turned into Politics for Dummies with a little 700 Club thrown in and a dash of reality show recap for good measure.
I liked hearing about Meredith’s gray roots and her house being taken over by fruit flies on the day of a wedding. I liked Star actually explaining a legal situation. I liked Joy not always being on the defensive and most of all I liked Elisabeth sitting there and not saying much.
If ABC is making money off this trainwreck then that train is going to keep rolling. It’s up to us whether we board it or not.
“Yep Roger - A Mickey Mouse country - you got it.”
Well we did have Goofy as President for 8 yrs.
March 4th, 2009 at 10:59 pm
I agree that there is no strong maternal vibe from EH. Lately Bitsy seems so ditsy that she could be her own kids’ sibling.

LMAO aint that the truth!!
March 5th, 2009 at 9:30 am
Eternally youthful Barbara Walters????? She never looked youthful when she was in her twenties.
I think in her senility that there is a lot of delusional drumming up of phony worship to the old doddering bat!!!! They seem to all be doing the ‘Brown nose Pilates’.
This year has really brought out the vain and know-it-all behavior to a head. She should go, too, with Elisabeth first out the door. She has grated so many of us right up the wall.

And I totally agree with you, GraceKelly #122…..time to retire The View actually - it’s never going to get better..once ya have a good thing (the first 9-10 years) and then it dies out - it’s very difficult to get it back to where it once was….
