The View May 12, 2009 Recap: Melina Kanakaredes and Maya Rudolph
Today on the May 12, 2009 version of The View, it was just four hosts, with Elisabeth Hasselbeck absent because she “has the day off.” The teaser they showed prior to the episode makes it sound like it will be a dull day. Barbara Walters was criticized on TMZ because she wore the same dress to the Time 100 Dinner that she wore to the White House Correspondent’s Dinner. Whoopi Goldberg said that she did the same thing. Barbara wore the same dress again last night to a charity event. Joy said “who cares so what,” noting she has wore the same bra for 40 years. Whoopi said that people bitch if you wear the different things every night, so you can’t win.
David Tutera, a party planner, was on Barbara’s SIRIUS show last night. He said that he was supposed to decorate a room for Joan Rivers on Celebrity Apprentice, but quit. He said on Barbara’s show that Joan Rivers’ behavior was unacceptable and she was a “monster.” Whoopi said that Joan is on the phone. Joan said that all said she told the man was not to make the room all red and didn’t want lounge chairs for a cocktail party. She said who is this guy. She said that the man is getting on her back for publicity and she doesn’t want to defend herself to this idiot. Joan said she probably did ask him if he was gay because she loves gay people. She said to tell him to go on “Dancing with ‘who’?” Joan added if you want a nice party, don’t go to him.
The White House has said that 9/11 is an issue for reflection, not one for comedy, in response to the joke that Wanda Sykes told about Rush Limbaugh being the 20th hijacker. Barbara said that Wanda Sykes was very funny and it was hard to follow the president, who was funny. She thought it was wrong for Wanda to say that she hopes Rush’s kidneys fail, because that means she wants him to die. Joy said that Rush is capable of going very low, noting that he accused Michael J Fox of exaggerating his symptoms. Whoopi said that the comment about him dying didn’t bother her because she says that she wants people to die all the time and doesn‘t mean it, but the 9/11 part did get her. Joy said that the joke was about Limbaugh, not 9/11. Barbara asked why he hasn’t responded. Whoopi asked what he would say. Barbara said that he could have attacked Wanda back. Then she mentioned her interview with him and how he said he is warm and fuzzy.
The next topic was how Donald Trump is (Right! Now! This! Very! Exciting! Minute!) holding a press conference about whether Miss California will lose her crown for the partial nude photos that have surfaced. Miss Rhode Island did a topless in Maxim and is not being held to the same standard. Sherri said that Miss Rhode Island disclosed that she did it, but Miss California did not. Barbara said that we are all looking at her with more interest because of her response about gay marriage. Sherri said that Trump stood up for Tara Connor and said that everyone deserves a second chance. Barbara said we don’t know what he said because it is happening right now. Then they had to explain to Barbara that Sherri was talking about a previous contestant. Then Whoopi got the “breaking news” in her ear. And sat their listening and repeating it word by word and pausing a long time between each word. Barbara suggested they get it all and then come back to it. Then Whoopi said she is keeping her crown. (Oh my word, this is so sad that they are treating this like an urgent matter, when really it is completely unimportant useless crap. What a waste of my time.)
The next topic was renewal of vows, which celebrities like Seal and Heidi Klum have done. Whoopi thinks it is a great idea. Sherri said that it is great that a man will say every year that he wants to marry you. She is just trying to get one proposal. Whoopi said that she already had one. Barbara said it is not a proposal, it is vow renewal. (She is annoying me more and more each day. I cannot quite explain why, but I think it is her obsession with stating the obvious). Joy said that vow renewal each year it is like marital OCD or Tourette’s. Barbara hates to go to weddings. Whoopi thinks it is good to do every two years and is also a good chance to say you don’t want to be married anymore. Joy said that if she gets married in the fall, which she will probably do, she doesn’t want people there, except maybe her daughter and his husband.
Whoopi asked Joy about getting married. She said it will be private and will just tell everyone after it happened. Barbara asked if Steve has proposed to her, even though she is saying she will marry him in September. Joy said no, but they talk to each other and have discussed it. Barbara told her she cannot wear a white dress. Joy said that she would look like an ambulance. She said she wore white at her first wedding because she was a technical virgin. Barbara then told the joke (for at least the third time) about how her grandmother said on her deathbed that she was a virgin because never participated in sex. Sherri wants to be at Joy’s wedding so she can celebrate them and bless them.
Whoopi has not smoked in the last week. She doesn’t know how long it will last.
Sorry, no recap of the guests today. The scheduled guests are Melina Kanakaredes (”C.S.I. New York”); Maya Rudolph (”Away We Go”).
The View, Sherri Shepherd, Barbara Walters, Whoopi Goldberg, Elisabeth Hasselbeck, Joy Behar, Melina Kanakaredes, Maya Rudolph, Away We Go, Wanda Sykes, Donald Trump, Joan Rivers, Celebrity Apprentice, Seal, Heidi Klum, David Tutera

Elisabeth has the day off! WOOT!
May 12th, 2009 at 9:02 am
Day off or day at her lawyer’s office?
May 12th, 2009 at 9:04 am
#2, you beat me to it! Karma!
May 12th, 2009 at 9:06 am
As my dear father(gone but never out of my heart) used to say, “What goes around, comes around.”
May 12th, 2009 at 9:08 am
I wonder if this guy can sue Joan Rivers and The View for ripping him up on the air.
all this nastiness could hurt his business.
May 12th, 2009 at 9:09 am
I’ll bet her lawyer’s office! We’ll see if she shows up on Huckabee on 5/16.
May 12th, 2009 at 9:09 am
What is this world coming to when Babwa explains jokes to us?
May 12th, 2009 at 9:10 am
Roger, I wondered the same thing.
May 12th, 2009 at 9:14 am
Missed the first few minutes:
what was their phrasing on why Hasselbeck is off?
May 12th, 2009 at 9:14 am
Whoopi… you are an idiot.
A comic should know better than to criticize and analyze another comic’s routine.
I remember a while ago when Whoopi was still “edgy” she was criticized about things that she said and wasnt happy about what was said at all.
more hypocrisy
May 12th, 2009 at 9:16 am
Diane from N.J., Whoopi said “Elisabeth has the day off.” nothing more
May 12th, 2009 at 9:17 am
Diane, I believe it was “Elizabeth has the day off.”
May 12th, 2009 at 9:17 am
Trump’s decision re Carrie Prejean is that the pictures are fine, acceptable…..bla bla bla. She remains Miss Calif.
SURPRISE !
May 12th, 2009 at 9:17 am
Is that God talking to Whoopie in her ear?
May 12th, 2009 at 9:18 am
Wait. Barbara and Bill had the designer on the Sirius show? Or did they just talk about the issue on the show?
May 12th, 2009 at 9:19 am
I wonder if Bitsy pulled her “pregnancy excuse” to get the day off? Or maybe all her frantic activities actually did cause some health problems?
May 12th, 2009 at 9:21 am
What is Whoopi eating?
May 12th, 2009 at 9:22 am
Ok, I have too much time on my hands today. But I must say that my husband and I “renew” our vows everyday, by living together, working together, and sharing our lives each and every day. That is our life.
Whoa! Joy is getting married in the fall!
May 12th, 2009 at 9:22 am
Whoa! Joy has made an announcement about getting married in the Fall!
May 12th, 2009 at 9:22 am
#15, sorry to be vague. Did Barbara and Bill have the designer in the fight with Joan Rivers on their show or just quote him?
May 12th, 2009 at 9:22 am
AWW Joy getting married in the fall how sweet LOL.
May 12th, 2009 at 9:23 am
Pepper… that is too funny, whoa!
May 12th, 2009 at 9:23 am
#10 NanW we had the same reaction!
May 12th, 2009 at 9:25 am
ok, Pepper, this has to stop…teehee!
May 12th, 2009 at 9:25 am
#18, I used to think I was hopelessly romantic, until I realized that it’s much more thrilling to have a man who does dishes and cooks and fold laundry together with you while you watch television at night. Keep the roses, go pick the kids up from practice without being asked and I’m putty in your hands!
May 12th, 2009 at 9:25 am
I noticed that without Bitsy-Lou, the crosstalk isn’t so nerve-wracking. The conversation can actually be followed at a normal pace.
May 12th, 2009 at 9:26 am
There is something delightfully nice about the show today - - cant quite put my finger on it…hmmmmm. Its lighter, FRESHER (get that reference, friends?)….there’s no stench.
Harsh? Nahh.
May 12th, 2009 at 9:27 am
Bern, I believe they have had him on the show in the past and today they just had a statement from him.
May 12th, 2009 at 9:28 am
OK for real what is Whoopi Eating?
May 12th, 2009 at 9:29 am
imagine that…..
the self proclaimed “christian” that got a boob job…. posed for nude pictures….. displaying her body on stage for money (one step from prostitution)….. The people on the right dismiss all of that because they agree with her.
In my opinion, there is nothing wrong with what she did….. until she said that her christian upbringing is the reason why she holds a certain opinion.
What about her christian upbringing helped her to decide to become a voyeur? Thats a church I want to go to.
May 12th, 2009 at 9:31 am
#25 bern, I am so very, very lucky. And you know what? So is my husband. I think the best advice to soon-to-be-marrieds is, appreciate each other and be generous to each other. It may sound simple but it works for us. And after 34 years I think we have it down pat.
May 12th, 2009 at 9:31 am
#17 SouthernExplosion Whoopi has some apple slices. Wanna bet Sherri is going to–dang she did it before I could type it! Sherri eating.
May 12th, 2009 at 9:32 am
Kelly and all - YuppieLawyer over on TwoP (post 72441) has said that there are computer programs that detect plagerism.
May 12th, 2009 at 9:34 am
Lawd…Lawd, No food is safe near Sherri Shepherd.
May 12th, 2009 at 9:35 am
Roger, I’ll bet her church also preaches “family values”. Since they agree with her stance on gay marriage and are so proud of that, wonder if they would put her pictures up on their bulletin board?
May 12th, 2009 at 9:35 am
#31, tomorrow is our 21st wedding anniversary. I’ve always known I was lucky to have found him! I only recently realized how lucky my husband is, but he’s known all along and has been trying to convince me! Bless his sweet heart!
May 12th, 2009 at 9:36 am
Zow - NanW - 34 years. God Bless - you must be doing something right.
I had an unconventional wedding - so while I understand bigger weddings, ceremonies, all the fanfare and accoutrements - I really find small, unconventional weddings refreshing. Un- bridezillas.
I was married at 43, kids. Yeah first time. Just me, hubby, mom and dad. Historic chapel
Cool honeymoon. Nice ring. Nice ivory suit.
That’s its baby.
May 12th, 2009 at 9:38 am
Bern - 21 years - Congratulations. Mr. Bern is the lucky one.
May 12th, 2009 at 9:38 am
Congratulations to you and Mr. Berndoubt!
We celebrated on May 3! Must be a good month.
May 12th, 2009 at 9:39 am
Well their outfits all look a little more in control and elegant today. But Barb-bra’s bosoms are being plumped out majorly by an industrially padded bra. There’s no way Ms Skinny Osteoporosis has a rack like that naturally.
May 12th, 2009 at 9:43 am
Congratulations to all of you happily married View-watching people! It’s wonderful to hear of your happiness! I wish you many peaceful, prosperous, contented, happy, healthy years in the future.
May 12th, 2009 at 9:44 am
Diane, sounds like a perfect start to a lovely marriage. I like small weddings, too.
Little backstory: we were both 20, baby on board and both families scoffed at this working…ha! Somehow we were lucky enough to find each other so early and knew what we could have. And many divorces around us, from those who scoffed. Each day I realize how special our marriage is and so does Mr. NanW. Oh boy, now I need a tissue!
May 12th, 2009 at 9:44 am
Pep - LOL ! I noticed the same thing !
May 12th, 2009 at 9:45 am
That Mr. NanW is one lucky guy…..;)
May 12th, 2009 at 9:48 am
#2 NanW - Day off or day at her lawyer’s office?
Naughty Nan! Me likes!
May 12th, 2009 at 9:49 am
Glad to see you here, too mokka. things are pretty good at twop today, too.
And love Maya Rudolph!
May 12th, 2009 at 9:50 am
Ohmygod…that is Maya’s mother?!! What a blast from the past!
May 12th, 2009 at 9:53 am
Here’s to the lucky dudes who scored such hot, smart babes!
Yeah, it’s been work and some times we’ve each wondered what the hell we were thinking, but even in the worst times we’ve managed to love each other enough to care about making it work. And, yes, that just made me cry, but it’s a good kind of cry! I needed that!
May 12th, 2009 at 9:54 am
There are online plagiarism sites - I used to use them when I taught language arts. Anything more than 3 words Bitsy. OF COURSE it is all stolen - she can’t speak a sentence let alone write one! Refreshing show without stupid.
May 12th, 2009 at 9:55 am
May I say, what a pleasure both those interviews were without a background buzz of “Oh sure…hmmmhmmm…of course…but, but, but!!!”
May 12th, 2009 at 9:59 am
Rog if Joy is getting married in the Fall, you still have time to change her mind and capture her heart.
May 12th, 2009 at 10:00 am
Good Morning to All! What a pleasant show…still inane topics, but at least there’s a flow of ideas and I’ve actually watched so far without cringing and changing channels.
Re: The ongoing saga of ‘Miss California of the Plastic TaTas’; the entire issue is so beyond ridiculous, and once again world, let’s focus on objectifying women…
Just read Pulitzer Prize, Nobel Prize winning, Toni Morrison’s newest book and it was brilliant.
Most people struggle to be able to afford one wedding, yet alone one wedding a year.
Sincere question as I rarely watch the show anymore; has there even been one mention of the auto industry and the bankruptcies?
Still glued to my couch with a bad back. I was getting better but then last night Diane, Nan, Marilyn and Roger convinced me to accept drinks and join their conga line.
May 12th, 2009 at 10:01 am
#13 Mary Evans Says:
“Trump’s decision re Carrie Prejean is that the pictures are fine, acceptable…..bla bla bla. She remains Miss Calif.:
MY RESPONSE: I really don’t care about this issue …..but I prefer Miss California keeping her crown — rather than The Donald giving to Joan Rivers!

I feel like singing!
You’re out of the woods
You’re out of the dark
You’re out of the night
Step into the sun, step into the light….

congratulations to the long term wives on here.
I was married May 13th so yes May is a good month… it actually snowed the week before lol
Got married just before my birthday…. got divorced on my MIL’s birthday….. best present she ever got!!
I will say…. all these months that I have spent blogging with you ladies…. I have come to the conclusion that you all would make a great wife…. all but 1 of you that is

Rog if Joy is getting married in the Fall, you still have time to change her mind and capture her heart.
I just wish she would have stopped by here once.
It is probably better this way…. Id hate to ruin what she has….
But Joy…. if you change your mind…..

Joy announced it again. the wedding but don’t want to talk about it . it was already forgotten, then , boom out again. SS wants to Bless THEM??? ok. BW hates going to weddings. Gee, hosts who extend invites to her must be thrilled to hear. Then decline, someelse would love to go. I would! She didnt’ seem to hate going to Stern’s wedding.Havent seen show yet, but BW explaining that diff. between renewal & proposal, I wonder if she pressed the side of her hand against the arm of the person next to her. She does that alot when ‘explaining’.
May 12th, 2009 at 10:15 am
Mom Babs’ attempt to correct Sherri when Sherri mentioned the Donald gave Tara Conner a second chance was pretty pitiful. Her age is really starting to show. And that staring off into space during the guests’ interviews is actually kinda scary.
May 12th, 2009 at 10:16 am
Wanna bet that JB’s low-key, ’secret’, simple, discreet wedding will be integrated into The View’s programing w/countdown, viewer interactivity, and input, and the ladies adding comedic value to it. SS performing the ceremony. EH planning the small reception. WG acting as MC. BW ‘hooking them up’ w/thing, people essential. Just a wild, wild thought.
May 12th, 2009 at 10:20 am
#60 it is scary when BW stares into space. Combined with WG’s total boredom with most guests that does not make for a good talk show.
But WG should be very excited tomorrow since Garcia and Emerson (from Lost) - I can’t wait either!
May 12th, 2009 at 10:22 am
#59 Elsie says:
“I wonder if she pressed the side of her hand against the arm of the person next to her. She does that alot when ‘explaining”.
MY RESPONSE: Elise, after all of these years of watching The View — you are the only person who has ever mentioned this.
BW needs the theatrics because she SO BORING!
May 12th, 2009 at 10:23 am
We got married on Friday the 13th, twice, on purpose. The second time was a marriage blessing in church on our sixth anniversary and it was Friday the 13th again! So far, it’s been lucky for us! We jokingly say that we’d either have to get married on Friday the 13th or April Fools’ Day!
May 12th, 2009 at 10:32 am
“But I must say that my husband and I “renew” our vows everyday, by living together, working together, and sharing our lives each and every day. That is our life.”
That made me smile NanW. That’s my life too.
May 12th, 2009 at 10:32 am
Felt sigh of relief when elisababble didn’t show up. What a relaxing, non-interrupted, pleasant, you speak, then I speak show!
No new twitter from twit this am. Checked to see if she was in trouble yet. Remember when Jerry Seinfeld’s wife was accused of plagiarizing a cookbook about pureed foods? I
don’t think anything ever came of that, did it?
Let’s have more sane shows like today but with a few more entertaining guests. JMHO
May 12th, 2009 at 10:36 am
#51 Elsie - I bet you’re right. Joy - another hypocrite. Didn’t she say over and over that she didn’t need to get married and then when she decided she needed to, said that we would know “after the fact”? I wonder where it will morph to now? Hypocrites all around!
May 12th, 2009 at 10:36 am
Bitsy is off today because she had a number of urgent things to do: go to her lawyers office, a meeting with Elaine Monarch of the Celiac Foundation, coffee with her best friend Sean (can’t tell Tim though ’cause he doesn’t like it when she is alone with another man))then over to the NY Public Library to look up some books on McCarthy. After that she will go to the bank to deposit the check from her book publisher before a stop is put on it, and then home to actually watch a video of the WH Correspondents Dinner (might be a good idea to see the video of Obama for yourself before you go spouting off on national television) and finally, give her father in law Don a call to cry her heart out to and get him to make everything ok.
Seriously, when Bitsy watched back yesterday’s show she is so self-absorbed that I’m sure she thought she was being ganged up on by all the ladies for trying to comment on Obama laughing at Wanda Sykes’ jokes. She is off pouting and feeling sorry for herself. I believe she has done this before with similar events preceding other unplanned days off.

actually, I think she will show up one day and announce that she got married yesterday. and the whole panel will be “shocked”
May 12th, 2009 at 10:40 am
May #66 I was just looking that up! Missy Lapine sued the Seinfelds for defamation, plagiarism, or copyright and trademark infringement in the Manhattan US District Court on 1/7/08. The case is still pending.
May 12th, 2009 at 10:42 am
#68 Sunny–
then home to actually watch a video of the WH Correspondents Dinner (might be a good idea to see the video of Obama for yourself before you go spouting off on national television)
But there was no video of Obama laughing. I watch the Dinner…. there was 1 camera…. it was locked on the person speaking….. no video of audience reaction….. and just the 1 camera where everyone shared the feed.
All that she said was either told to her or was her own personal illusion….. but was probably just Hannity’s illusion….. he wasnt there either.
May 12th, 2009 at 10:45 am
Roger, there is video. You can probably youtube it.
May 12th, 2009 at 10:47 am
Odd that BaWa didn’t remember the Tara Conner defense by The Donald. Isn’t that what prompted the whole dust-up between Rosie and Dumptruck and BaWa tried to play both sides?
May 12th, 2009 at 10:51 am
Early Congratulations Bern and I’m very happy for you…
I’ve been with my husband for 33 years and married for 30 of them…our 3 month old son helped cut the cake. Diane, we also had a small, quiet, backyard wedding. We exchanged our vows by our apple tree. We decided to use the money it would have cost to have a big wedding, to put a downpayment on a home…it was a good decision. Some friends and family got together and planned a potluck dinner…it was wonderful!
May 12th, 2009 at 10:57 am
#72 vickie–
Roger, there is video. You can probably youtube it.
I dont know where it came from…. I recorded and watch the video. it was just one camera with no panning through the audience, or table during the routine.
I could be wrong, so if you know of another video, please direct me to the link.
May 12th, 2009 at 10:58 am
Mary Evans, # 70 - Thanks for the reseacrh and update.
Joey - Sounds like my kind of affair - with a happy ending.
May 12th, 2009 at 11:03 am
#75 Roger, you can find it on youtube.
May 12th, 2009 at 11:05 am
Roger - you are correct. I saw the entire video of Wanda Sykes routine. Agreed - there is NO video of camera on Pres. Obama’s face showing laughter at Sykes’ Limbaugh remarks.
Hasselbeck was clearly put up to throwing that lie out there.
Maybe she is ‘off’ today to physically recover. Maybe lying when pregnant makes you even sicker than lying when not pregnant.
Maybe she is off today to strategize with Faux Evil Right Wing Cabal to brainstorm about having better daily mechanism to get her Daily View Talking points.
May 12th, 2009 at 11:08 am
I wonder what is posted on youtube if not the correspondence dinner. Any takers?
May 12th, 2009 at 11:27 am
Video is on Huffingtonpost “WS Knocks Limbaugh, Hannity” - shows President Obama smiling but not laughing, imo, and looking uncomfortable. It’s a short video

I’m sure you know how to go to youtube, if you are interested…you don’t need me to do it for you.
May 12th, 2009 at 11:39 am
president was smiling during the jokes and shook his head a bit. he was lauging less than some in the crowd.
overall she was hilarious
May 12th, 2009 at 11:40 am
#77 Vicki–
#75 Roger, you can find it on youtube.
I stand corrected Vicki…. I searched google and found a youtube video that was posted by CSPAN…. the video I saw was aired on MSNBC
Thanks for the correct info.

#55 Roger: ” I`have come to the conclusion that you all would make a great wife…. all but 1 of you that is…”
Who dat? Unless you mean a troll.
May 12th, 2009 at 11:43 am
I don’t think the point is whether the president was laughing, smiling, or nose spewing his wine. The point is that there is a video of the president reacting to Wanda Sykes, a couple of posters stated that there wasn’t a video. Just wanted to offer the information.

May 12th, 2009 at 11:45 am

May 12th, 2009 at 11:47 am
mibi and roger, thanks for acknowledging the correction.
May 12th, 2009 at 11:49 am
I don’t think they’re talking about you Vic - but will say this was hilarious:
“…nose spewing his wine.”
Have to remember nose spewing…chuckle
May 12th, 2009 at 11:52 am
I’m not so sure, Kelly, but I am thick skinned. thanks and glad I made you chuckle!
May 12th, 2009 at 11:54 am
#68 Sunny, I liked your list of reasons why Bits was “taking a day off”. Here are a few more I thought of:
* The Discovery Channel and Disney wanted to use her voice in a chipmunk and screech owl documentary.
*She’s taking one day off to write the entire sequel to her book: Celiac II. (Hey–the Internet is a rich mother lode of info to copy.)
* She was afraid Whoopi’s snack had gluten, and she would’ve broken out in hives and diarhhea to be near it.
*She and Hannity are collaborating on some dress designs he can wear during his private time.

Roger, I was first watching the White House/Press dinner on MSNBC and there was only a camera on the person speaking at the podium, but I switched to C-Span and they had cameras on both the podium and the dias and lots of audience shots. I think there may be video from there at HuffPo.
May 12th, 2009 at 11:59 am
hello all.
i’m enjoying the recap and posts.
didn’t see the show today because i was out running errands.
wish i had though, i love maya rudolph.
my husband was surprised to know she’s minnie riperton’s daughter. i miss that beautiful singing voice.
congratulations to all celebrating wedding anniversaries this may.
i married late in life and i’m glad i did. hubby and i couldn’t be happier.
no empty nest but, our 3 year old keeps us feeling young.

Liked the guests today. Loved Melina since ‘Providence’. Of course Maya Rudolph is great. Lover her, love her. Not sure if I’ll watch the movie, though.( Joy’s wedding came up again? oh b. ) One poster, last week called Melina ‘horse face’ because of something her character on CSI:NY said. Sarah Jessica Parker gets called that name too. I don’t like that. What facial characteristics are acceptable? Who is the ideal model for women, hmm?
May 12th, 2009 at 12:03 pm
#59, Elsie “Joy announced it again. the wedding but don’t want to talk about it . it was already forgotten, then , boom out again. She does that alot when ‘explaining’.”
Love this post, Elsie!

#65 ShannonP…glad I could make you smile.
heatherspeaks…early or late doesn’t matter. The right person is what matters. And my husband and I don’t call it our empty nest, we call it our “happy nest”. And always made happier when those children and grandchildren come for visits.

Where wanda sykes went wrong with the rush joke was saying she hoped his kidneys fail. Since rush has avoided that dreaded socialized medicine, he’d probably find his way to the head of the line and deprive someone else who could have used the replacement kidney he’d get. better to say “I hope his air bags fail.”
babs is right; this is all good publicity for miss calif. she’ll likely get some quasi-reality show slot after this.
these gals think that their body exposure will make them richer or more famous. I was the first girl in school to develop breasts. I did not care for the attention. [And 3 of my teachers had those piano bench bosoms. I was terrified that that was to be my fate also.] So I’ve never dressed to flaunt what I got. Plus long skirts let you get away with knee-highs.
As sherri said, if you have the money, what is wrong with basically throwing an anniversery party every year?
I enjoy most weddings that I attend and they have included backyard ceremonies up to the Ritz Carlton. Maybe babs is just cheap, because in her circle, a wedding is preceded by an engagement party, then a bridal shower, then the wedding, so that is 3 gifts to buy.
I’m not a diamond fan and unless you can get a good deal wholesale, I’d say forego the engagement ring and put that money into the honeymoon. The brides at the last two weddings I attended did not wear white. One wore a light green and the other a deep burgandy.
At one wedding, the couple included their dogs in the [outdoor deck] ceremony. The dogs got intimidated by all the people and balked at walking down the aisle. The groom stood at the front, calling them to come. It was hilarious, like the pooches were saying “We do not approve of this union!”

It’s me, I’m the one!! I admittedly am not marriage material! LOL
I make a much better friend than a wife.

#93 - Pepperbird - LOL. your list is much funnier than mine! On your last point, I wouldn’t not be surprised if Lizzy was looking into options for how to induce premature labor and have the baby as soon as possible. A new baby popping out now would certainly suppress some of the bad news about her book that is rapidly making its way around the blogosphere (well at least for a few hours, then I know we at WTV would be right back at it)! I can see father-in-law Don Hasselbeck recommending this approach (yeeewww!!).
May 12th, 2009 at 12:35 pm
I was the one who made the Melina remark. I was furious with the conclusion of the does she have HIV storyline when she found out she was negative. She said something like “Thank goodness. I couldn’t have dealt with having HIV.” You, a scientifically educated wage-earner with health insurance could not handle having HIV? You should know that it is no longer a “You will be dead within 2 years” deal. It just sent the wrong message to others that may have to deal with this reality.
The first two women that come to mind for horseface are Jerry Hall and Giselle Bundchen. It means they have a long face.
Hey, I don’t have any obligation to “be nice” to any celebrity. It is not my practice to make snide comments about people I know personally, but celebs provide my outlet for snarkiness.

#71 Roger But there was no video of Obama laughing. I watch the Dinner…. there was 1 camera…. it was locked on the person speaking….. no video of audience reaction….. and just the 1 camera where everyone shared the feed.
Which network did you watch it on? I watched on C-Span and they were focused more on Obama and the audience.
May 12th, 2009 at 2:00 pm
#80 Mary Evans: Video is on Huffingtonpost “WS Knocks Limbaugh, Hannity” - shows President Obama smiling but not laughing, imo, and looking uncomfortable. It’s a short video
Yep. He did look uncomfortable. In fact, Wanda turned to him and said, “Too much?” and he said, “Yeah”. And then she said something like, “But all of you will use it later!” LOL!

I watched it on MSNBC….. they had a locked shot.
I saw part of the video on youtube like vickie pointed out.
May 12th, 2009 at 2:20 pm
I agree with you, mokka and Maryy; Pres. Obama did look uncomfortable and seemed to be smiling more out of politeness. I also thought he had a look like “I can’t believe she said that”.
Doesn’t matter though; it’s okay to make comments like “bending over to the ankle because the President’s dad is Kenyan” and saying “Barack the magic Negro” and “Obama is the second terror attack after 911″ and all the other nasty, disgusting things he says on a daily basis is ok, but when someone hits back, it’s some big no-no.
May 12th, 2009 at 2:36 pm
I just read a funny blog by Phil Bronstein, publisher formerly married to sharon stone, until he got bit by a komodo dragon.
He gave a funny clintonesque explanation for miss calif keeping her crown. When she posed for the topless photos, she was only exposing her natural breasts. by the time the pageant rolled around, she had gotten implants, so, technically, she has never posed topless with her Miss California breasts.
May 12th, 2009 at 3:06 pm
Mr. O’Reilly had clips of bo laughing–he looked pretty nervous—and had to drink some water.

marthe Says: “When she posed for the topless photos, she was only exposing her natural breasts. by the time the pageant rolled around, she had gotten implants, so, technically, she has never posed topless with her Miss California breasts.”
MY RESPONSE: LOL
May 12th, 2009 at 3:27 pm
FROM RECAP: “Then she mentioned her interview with him and how he said he is warm and fuzzy. ”
MY RESPONSE:
FROM RECAP: “Barbara Walters was criticized on TMZ because she wore the same dress to the Time 100 Dinner that she wore to the White House Correspondent’s Dinner.”
MY RESPONSE: I actually like that Barb is the type of person to wear an article of clothing twice. I hear about these people that buy clothes and wear it once, and I always think “how wasteful”.Perhaps the reason they wear things once is because of people like TMZ publicly pointing it out so I guess I can see both sides now.
Still, why did BarbW even bring it up? Seems like she wants pity. Poor Barb, someone was talking about her! Boohoohoo. She ought to be grateful she can choose how many times she can wear things, as well as being invited to such an affair so she can schmooze and kiss up to an important person.
FROM RECAP: “Barbara said it is not a proposal, it is vow renewal.”
MY RESPONSE: Barb was obviously not following the entire exchange at the table.
But I guess you don’t have to if your intent is to be Miss Know It All.
May 12th, 2009 at 3:33 pm
I think what is needed is a large dose of perspective…
First, the world watches as the conservatives take President Obama to task for eating a burger with fancy mustard, and now for smiling at comments made by a comedienne…
He didn’t know what she was going to say and sitting there frowning would have been odd at best. Even a genius takes a while to process info…it’s that simple. It’s not like he was starting an illegal war, illegally torturing people and actively participating in bringing the economy to it’s knees…
So if all the conservatives have on him is fancy mustard and an inappropriate smile…he’s in pretty good shape. The Republicans who are participating in this nonsense should know how foolish they are making themselves appear.

marthe Says: “When she posed for the topless photos, she was only exposing her natural breasts. by the time the pageant rolled around, she had gotten implants, so, technically, she has never posed topless with her Miss California breasts.”
HAH!!!
May 12th, 2009 at 3:41 pm
Joey, “The Republicans who are participating in this nonsense should know how foolish they are making themselves appear.”
Yes, they should, but sadly they do not. And that is why SH and RL are now the leaders of that sad party. I just hope the rest of the world knows that many, many of us do not listen to or condone anything they say.
May 12th, 2009 at 3:46 pm
I read that in Carrie Prejan’s contract (all of their contracts actually) with Trump it says that *anything you did before had to be disclosed* (paraphrased) and the problem was that she never disclosed that prior to the win.
I also read that she posed again or tried to AFTER she got the implants but I saw that at not a very trustworthy website so I’m not believing that.
Cheney is looking mighty stupid too pushing Rush Limbarf for the GOP.
May 12th, 2009 at 4:03 pm
MV - loving the Limbarf name!
It bothers me a lot that CP lied and got away with it and that was dismissed by Trump. Plus not fulfilling her Miss Calif duties. Not much for beauty contests but does anyone even know the name of Miss USA?
Paraphrasing here, but CP was saying this morning something abouj how the wind caught
the vest she was wearing (modeling, snicker) and hence her her breasts were revealed. Funny thing is the vest was so small she NEVER could have buttoned it. Photos from TMZ.
Trump went on and on about how relevant the Miss Universe and Miss USA contests were, not so much Miss America. He’s dragging us into the 21st century. I would suggest that he change the contestants contracts in that case. What a hypocrite.
May 12th, 2009 at 4:30 pm
The Donald said that Miss CA said the same thing that bo believes in and also the sec. of state. I think that was an upstanding remark on The Donald’s part.
May 12th, 2009 at 4:31 pm
I have to agree that Bonnie Hunt is a fun show. She has some boring parts; I wasn’t interested in the search for a date for her buddy Holly.
But she isn’t staring into space or admiring herself in the monitor or taking off her invisalign to eat or talk or fidgeting or scratching. Honestly it looked like bits was trying to scratch a hemorrhoid yesterday. Lol and even though I’m just posting to our little circle, I took the extra time to do my research on the proper spelling of the h-word. Hey gals, it took 20 seconds.
Bonnie has better researchers; she honestly seems to enjoy each guest and actually wants to hear about them; she does a witty sexual innuendo/self-deprecation with most of the male guests. It is funny, not crude.
Hey, Lester seems to have recently added Oprah, maybe if you ask him to add Bonnie?
I like Ellen, but I almost never watch her, cuz she starts out with her dancing schtick and I change the channel.
May 12th, 2009 at 4:31 pm
RE: DTRUMP
I guess that the 21st century is relevant because of silicone, misogyny, and showing young women that you are of more value if you alter yourself physically, are a Christian who believes your religion gives you the right to deprive others of human rights. Yes, young women of the world you too can get ahead, can join the men in business if you wear 4 inch heels, spend hours, deep concern and big bucks on your appearance and humbly accept the judgement of your male bosses. And if you are unfortunate enough to have a female boss, you should know this will be a negative experience because women don’t get along and don’t work well together.
Yes, beauty pageants are terribly relevant, and a better choice than stripping and prostitution…
Did I mention that I’m still on painkillers??
May 12th, 2009 at 4:32 pm

Bitsy should really be proud of herself! Grace and the boy and the expected one can all read about what a thief their mother is when they are older. Isn’t plagerism almost worse than grand theft or the same? Could someone be sentenced to prison for plagerism like they can for other such crimes as grand theft auto? At least if someone steals a car it is only one car but if that same person steals another’s thoughts and words for profit they stand to make millions. Bitsy might have just gone in a bank, handed the teller a note and demanded a million or two.
May 12th, 2009 at 5:07 pm
Whoopi was as insulting to the audience today when she was fiddling with her teeth and eating those apples as Sherri is every time she eats on camera. It is good Barbara called her on it. Whoopi seems to have an inordinate need for attention, as does Joy.
Joy focused on herself AGAIN by announcing she planned to marry Steve in the fall. It was good Barbara asked her if he’d proposed and she had to admit he had not. I doubt very much they will ever marry unless Joy threatens him with kicking him out of the million dollar lifestyle she provides him.
May 12th, 2009 at 5:08 pm
I belive that kellyjo once mentioned that people tell her that she looks like Elizabeth Hasselbeck. Wow , kellyjo, what an honor. And you think like her too.
Do you wear a big Christian symbol around your neck and condone torture too ?
Who does Jesus torture?
Do you go to church every Sunday?
Do you wear a flag pin?
Do you have military family serving in Iraq? Afghanistan?
Do you have any family on medicare? Social Security? Veterans Benefits?
If so, I suggest you tell them to give it back - that’s SOCIALISM. Plus, any elderly in YOUR FAMILY should have been smart enough and thrifty enough along the way to save and invest - - so I don’t have to pay for YOUR old people getting sick or just living. That’s YOUR PROBLEM - not mine.Sorry.
Do you have kids in public school? UH OH - that’s socialism. My taxes are paying for your kids education. Pay for YOUR own kids. And no, I don’t have kids in public schools - so you are not paying for mine.
Oh you better take your money out of ANY bank that is insured by the FDIC - because the government is insuring you money of that bank goes under. I’m not paying for your money to be kept safe. That’s YOUR problem - not mine.
Sorry - you and your family are on your own this time little American girl. Fend for yourself.

Most people on Medicare and Social Security PAID INTO IT FOR YEARS while they were working. They don’t get it for free. Some people on SSI and other forms of welfare might get Medicare but I don’t think so.
People receiving Social Security also have to pay high costs for prescriptions unless they have supplemental insurance THEY PAY FOR and THEY have to PAY for PART B if they want it, even though they were taxed during their working lives. You have to have 40 quarters of paid earnings in to be eligible for Social Security and Medicare, basically.

It wont register with those people though.
The right wing nut cases dont want to follow the rules…. they just want to set the rules for others to follow. That way they can steal from the people that follow the rules that were set up by them.
And once they get caught… they go screaming to the government demanding a bailout.

Most people on Medicare and Social Security PAID INTO IT FOR YEARS while they were working.
yes they did Rachel…. but they receive 4 times or more than what they paid in.
The money they paid in is gone, it was used to pay off the people on SS at that time. All of the money and benefits they receive today are paid by the tax payers of today.
When they “pay for” part B…. the money they pay come from the federal government and go to private insurance companies.
These right wing nutcases dont want the American people to gain by government money…. but they are drooling for businesses to profit from government money.

May 12th, 2009 at 5:32 pm
Rachel - you are correct - a - mundo:
“People receiving Social Security also have to pay high costs for prescriptions.
I believe it was Medicare ‘Part D.’ I think.
You know why the cost for prescriptions is high? Because while the Republicans held the majority in Congress these last 6 - 8 years, they re-wrote the laws on this - and guess who helped them - yep - the PHARMACEUTICAL COMPANIES. They had a seat at the negotiating / law writing table.
Democrats in Congress wanted to keep prescription costs for seniors LOW - ala our veterans benefits which offers very low costs for drugs to vets.
BUT - the PHARM companies lobbied so that the U.S . government could NOT negotiate low cost rates . Yeah - powerful lobbyists.
This was IMMORAL. Christians - taking care of those “who are least of us” - our elderly who are sick.
LOBBYISTS RUNNING CONGRESS:
Big Pharma
Big Oil
Big Insurance
Big Banks
That why our U.S. seniors go to Canada to try and purchase needed medication.

“BEAUTY FADES, DUMB IS FOREVER.”
May 12th, 2009 at 5:51 pm
Those who pay into Social Security have no choice in the matter. That is why many of them want/ed a system where a person would have the option to invest the money on their own. Some felt they could do better. Or if a person were allowed to save the money taken in a CDl, they might do the same or better? Who knows but a wise person would try to save on their own in addition and one big key is not to live beyond one’s means as so many do!

RE: My Mom
As a Canadian veteran of WW11, and the widow of a veteran of WW11, my Mom gets her perscriptions for free…she also gets free eyeglasses, all kinds of health benifits, including a scooter and hearing aids. She also receives money to hire a house cleaner once a week…while we’re not in the best financial state, Canada is also aware that these kind of social safety nets and outreach are not the reason for our financial problems, and they add greatly to our well-being.
Corporate welfare is our biggest problem…’huge’ tax breaks and limited required financial reporting by the government, are the villians.
Social kindness should not be an option, it must be required. I’ve paid into Unemployment Insurance all my life and never used the benifits. I’m so grateful that the wee amount I was required to pay is helping someone now.

Dee, AT FIRST when I read “Bo”, I thought you meant The Obama dog.
Some of O’Reilly’s and Hannity’s photos of President Obama were shown out-of-context.
Donald Trump: He has made the statement more than once that “Miss California did not say anything wrong. 70% agree with her”.
70% of who or is it whom?

Or is it Bho?

Joey - - calling all dear Canadians on this blog. Thanks you Joey for sharing your very personal experience up close. I am so happy that your other is taken care of.
Honestly it had been on my mind to ask any of you to share your experience with NATIONALIZED HEATHCARE in Canada. Called SOCIALISM in this country to scare and confuse the populace.
Stay Tuned ON THIS IMPORTANT & TIMELY SUBJECT.
This is the next fight.
The next bastian of scare tactics for Republican far right in the pockets of corporation and powerful insurance lobbyists.
Obama must get some strong legislation pushed thru Congress in this first year on this subject. IT IS CRITICAL.
FYI - Ed Shultz is a major refreshing liberal media voice on the subject . Universal, single payer healthcare is his passion. On his afternoon radio show and now on his new evening MSNBC show.
I must sign off for the night - but I will be happy to read later any add’l thoughts on this subject. But I will re-visit this again.
Nite. Keith O. is on. 8pm est.
Must go pick up pizza.

#36 Diane from NJ - excellent post. Very interested in Kellyjo’s response because they never can but she has probably slithered back into her hole.
Like the troll she is she stirs up trouble but it just makes me so happy we have Barack Obama as President. I just cannot imagine what would be if McCain had won. Frightening.
So, thank you kellyjo.
May 12th, 2009 at 6:24 pm
I was wondering if bo was the childhood slur for body odor, since both the POTUS and Madame Secretary of State were in lower case, while the colorful Dump and O’Liely were given titles. Obviously we know who kellyjo champions:)
Perhaps Ms. Cali has a title of Mrs. Trump in her future. I haven’t seen Melania in any magazines recently and she has to be pushing 40.
May 12th, 2009 at 6:28 pm
Diane, but don’t ya know that canada is really a third world country and we are just protecting our us citizens from potentially harmful drugs that are manufactured by the same companies, but because every other country in the world bargains more effectively, we just can’t take the chance.
but the dragging of the feet on curtailing air pollution is okay because the respiratory deaths can’t be pinpointed to factory x.
London fog wasn’t because of normal weather conditions; it was because the good quality coal was exported and the locals used the smutty cheap stuff. wiki it; in the 60s I think, the smog was so bad that you couldn’t see a movie screen; thousands died. and the country took action.
I think mj is pretty benign and would certainly bring in much needed tax revenue. It will never be legal though until Monsanto gets a patent on genetically-altered strains that they can make a profit from.
Yeah, I understand not just wearing a dress once only, but 3 times in one week? when you know you are getting photographed at all 3? and it wasn’t very attractive. I think babs looks great in her gold necklace and blue blouse on the view intro.
that said, I do have my standard wedding dress. I call it my Monet dress: big pastel florals. It has pockets for my tissue and lip balm, is long enough that I can wear knee-highs, and I can dance in it! I am old fashioned enough that I don’t think it is appropriate for a guest to wear either all white, that is for the bride, or black, that is for a funeral.
May 12th, 2009 at 6:31 pm
Dee, it is interesting that you mention the absence of Millania in all the photos of Donald. In those I’ve seen, he’s either alone or with his daughter, Ivanka.
May 12th, 2009 at 6:33 pm
I have also wondered where Millania, Mrs. Trump numero tres (?) is or is it now Ms. Millania Trump?
May 12th, 2009 at 6:35 pm
I also thought it odd BW wore the same dress 3 times in one week. She has beautiful clothes and probably 100 dressy gowns to choose from. Now me, I have to wear a dress over and over. But BW? Being photographed? I sincerely hope the last 2 times she wore regular pantyhose rather than kneehighs. LOL
May 12th, 2009 at 6:38 pm
I thought I’d seen that dress before and agree it is not the prettiest one she has. I think the see-through fabric with the flowers or lace things on it is not attractive on a woman her age even though she looks pretty good for it. Too much skin showing IS NOT GOOD! Then, I think she was wearing too much jewelry with it.
Maybe Babs wanted to be sure people noticed that she was wearing the same thing so she’d get some publicity.
May 12th, 2009 at 6:39 pm
Was Babs seen wearing kneehighs?
May 12th, 2009 at 6:40 pm
Cool Jesus? There are two of them?
Well, that explains it - I’ve been worshiping the one without the Rolex.

Joy would deserve Roger and I’m sure he’d enjoy the lifestyle she’d provide him even more than Steve does.
Thanks for lookin out for me Rachel…. there just might be some good in you after all.
May 12th, 2009 at 6:52 pm
Rachel - the pic was shown on the view but just google hasselbeck michelle time100 and clink on Getty Images (about 4 down).
It’s the photo where BW is leaning over a barrier and the twit is practically on her knees clutching Michelle’s hand. LOL
May 12th, 2009 at 6:56 pm
Should have added after Michelle’s hand in a death grip.
May 12th, 2009 at 7:09 pm
Thanks for this Mary Evans:
YuppieLawyer over on TwoP (post 72441) has said that there are computer programs that detect plagerism.
May 12th, 2009 at 7:11 pm
You’re welcome Kelly - whatever it takes!
May 12th, 2009 at 7:12 pm
Wow! Thanks, I’ve seen that picture but missed the knee high’s as Bitsy looked completely nuts and my attention was focused on her.
I think Bitsy’s days are numbered, thank you Jesus! I have Hannity on and he is interviewing Miss California and seems very enamored of her! She is only 22 and I must say, much more poised and well-spoken than the “alleged” plagerist, Bitsy Hasselbeck. I doubt very much that Fox News has any interest or desire to associate themselves with copycats better known as thieves.
May 12th, 2009 at 7:17 pm
Rachel - EH is scheduled to be on FOX’s Huckabee on 5/16 (Sat). I suggest an email campaign to bring him up to date. It will be interesting to see if she actually appears.
I’m hoping she was at her attorneys today.
Some say her book is doing ok, however, I think presales on Amazon accounted for that.
May 12th, 2009 at 7:23 pm
“Some say her book is doing ok, however, I think presales on Amazon accounted for that.”
The righties will buy up her book and give it away, just so she gets good numbers. She is a valuable squawkbox for them, as long as she has The View gig.
May 12th, 2009 at 7:32 pm
Her book went from 5 to 20 to 30 today on Amazon.
May 12th, 2009 at 7:40 pm
The Hasselbeck and Filarski families probably account for most of those presales.
I like your idea of emailing Huckabee. It is so good to know that Sue Hassett has retained a lawyer. Hopefully, they will pursue this until this dangerous book Elisabeth wrote is taken off the market.
Aside from the allegations that she stole the material, I don’t think she truly has celiac disease and think she has misrepresented that, as she has so many other things. She said she followed the diet before she got pregnant, during the pregnancy and when she wanted to get back into her bikini so she could strut around. Well, what about all the other times? I thought this diet was the only “cure” for the disease. Another reason I think she may be lying about even having the disease is because she has not mentioned one other relative of hers having it, despite the fact that it is hereditary.
Is there anything written anywhere about her and this book besides here and TWoP? I can’t wait for TMZ or someone to get on this!
May 12th, 2009 at 7:41 pm
Dee, #48, you said what I was thinking.Well said.
DiannaC, Dee was quoting another post. See trolly comment #27
Hope that helps.
May 12th, 2009 at 7:45 pm
I saw coverage of Prejean on Countdown with Keith Olbermann (great show). She came of as a flake and a liar. She claims someone took her pic without permission, implying the wind blew her top apart.
While she’s posing.
Looking straight at the camera.
Yeah. Right.
May 12th, 2009 at 7:46 pm
I will email Huckabee but since I am challenged with cutting and pasteing can someone forward the article about the Executive Director of Celiac Disease Foundation on TwoP for me? Post 72458
Many thanks
May 12th, 2009 at 7:51 pm
Stacee, I like Countdown too. I agree - problem with CP’s photos is that the vest was 5 sizes too small. Who would wear that to the beach?
Anyone curious just go to TMZ. It is rediculous.
May 12th, 2009 at 7:53 pm
I just checked out the book on Amazon and it is sinking fast. It is now down to #33. I read some of the reviews and comments and was glad I did as most of them are very critical and they had the warning from the Director of the Celiac Foundation there!
Oh how I can’t wait for tomorrow a.m. to see if Bitsy shows up and if so how she is acting and just what she has to say for herself. Will BW or anyone else on there ever mention the book again?
May 12th, 2009 at 7:56 pm
Did you all see that Alltel commercial? “So what if I smell like ‘sour cream’ and ‘failure’ and my mother thinks I’m part ‘troll!’”
anywhoooooo - this from Jesse ‘The Body’ Ventura:
Ventura came out against the Bush administration, calling George Bush the “worst president in my lifetime” and saying he has “no respect for Dick Cheney.”
Claiming that he was water-boarded as part of Navy Seal training he received during the Vietnam War era, Ventura says:
[Water-boarding] is torture… It’s drowning. It gives you the complete sensation that you are drowning. It is no good, because you — I’ll put it to you this way, you give me a water board, Dick Cheney and one hour, and I’ll have him confess to the Sharon Tate murders.
May 12th, 2009 at 8:08 pm
I wonder why Donald Trump would have had Perez Hilton, a gay man, as a judge for the pagent in the first place. He probably won’t be invited back to it again.
May 12th, 2009 at 8:19 pm
I don’t think Perez’s question was out of line. Just how it was answered. CP is entitled to her opinion but she said “in my country and my family”. Yet 4ish states at the time had legalized gay marriage. IMO she either implied Calif was a country or not up on the subject. Hard to believe, being Miss Calif. Perez has said she is entitled to her opinion, should never have called her a bitch, however. A more PC answer coujld have been…leave it up to the states. In my family we are against opposite marriage.
JMO
Evidently people ask to be judges, they are not appointed. They seek it out and are not paid. Of course Trump would want “famous” people to “apply.” Even he said, IIRC, the question was not out of line and even that there were more difficult questions.
Lying on her app - a whole other can of worms.

I discovered this site quite by accident a couple of months ago. And may I say that I get such a kick from reading and having the opportunity to contriubute to this site everyday (Thanks Winnie)!
A wide range of personalities who are smart, funny, articulate. It makes such a difference when people actually research — but NOT just research “what they want to believe”.
Different Topic: Once again, a segment on Oprah’s show (w/ her boyfriend Dr. Oz) was around people successfully losing large amounts of weight — while she looks like she is (once again) getting fatter and fatter. Lately, she has been really getting on my nerves.
I am still trying the lose the 60 pounds which I gained from taking steroid painkillers for my back injury 4 years ago, not being able to exercise and being an emotional eater because of the former.
I realize that I am in a bad mood because yesterday I spent 6.5 hours in the Emergency Room where I received several IV Steriod Flushes for pain. Sorry, but I am venting ….
May 12th, 2009 at 8:22 pm
#182-Rachel - excuse moi? What does being a judge for a beauty pageant and being gay have anything to do with one another?
are you a homophobe?
or what………..
and gays have been involved in fashion for oh I don’t know - 4-5 decades?
May 12th, 2009 at 8:29 pm
rachel 182 i belive donald has said he would love to have perez back. i may be wrong but i bellive he said it is great to have him.
May 12th, 2009 at 8:37 pm
The question may not have been out of line but Perez’s reaction was. He obviously had a hidden agenda. If she had answered differently and said she supported gay marriage, none of this would have happened and Perez Hilton would not have made any comment.
I’m sure Donald Trump could have selected a better judge. Judges are supposed to be “neutral” no? CP is entitled to her opinion and Donald Trump said she is to be admired for not wavering in that opinion.
May 12th, 2009 at 8:38 pm
Go ahead and vent DiannaC. Pain is awful and debilatating. Hope you’re feeling better soon.
May 12th, 2009 at 8:53 pm
Perez (or Paris) Hilton (who is he anyway?) should not been allowed to ask such a polarizing question in the first place.
The question was “inappropriate” for a Beauty Pageant contestant – and Ms. Prejean’s answer was honest, yet “inappropriate” under the untimely definition of the word. Not quick enough to give a “neutral” answer. – whatever that may be.
Ms Prejean should be added to the short list of EH’s replacement on The View: Megan McCain, Pistol Palin, Patricia Heaton.
As for The Donald — He has been on my crap list since the many personal attacks he made against Rosie!

Rachel Says: ” The question may not have been out of line but Perez’s reaction was. He obviously had a hidden agenda.”
MY RESPONSE: Hidden agenda? Oh please. There is no “hidden agenda”
Stop talking nonsense, Rachel.
The way she answered was not poised. She sounded like she was spouting gibberish. Her answer was all over the place, she sounded a lot like Gov. Palin.
So what that he asked the question. She should have been confident and smart enough to answer in an eloquent manner. She failed in that. Miserably.
I’m not sure why you would suggest that just because he is a gay male that he’s not qualified to judge the pageant. You may disagree with how he acted after Prejean’s blustered answer, but that has nothing to do with his sexuality. That you would feel it does says more about you than it does him.
And of course Donald Trump would say certain things regarding her being admired and blah blah blah. . He’s protecting his asset. It’s a business decision. Just because he says it doesn’t make it true, nor does it make me admire her. And yes she’s entitled to her opinion, just as we are entitled to our opinion regarding her opinion. Donald nor you are the end all in that.
May 12th, 2009 at 9:04 pm
DiannaC - I read somewhere about 2 weeks ago that Ms. Prejean would be considered as a replacement for EH during her pregnancy and possibly full-time…..but it was not a reliable source online.
May 12th, 2009 at 9:05 pm
Religous-based bigotry smells funky. When we are assulted with a rose that is rotten to the core the public outcry must be ear piercing.
Minorities…women, black people, gays…have all been maligned in the name of religion. Sadder than that reality are those minorities who have gained their position of acceptance in the eyes of Fundamental bigots and forget or can’t emphathize with how it feels to be the odd man out.

MiamiVision Says: “sniffs around, trolls abound…”
MY RESPONSE: Yeah, I sorta figured that one out awhile ago. Strange personality, seems a bit all over the place. I sometimes wonder if this is a case of someone having different usernames and forgetting to log out after spouting one thing, therefore the true nature comes out.
That or someone is starved for attention.
May 12th, 2009 at 9:10 pm
Perez Hilton has been on The View several times. Has a popular website.
The National Inquirer has said that CP may be on The View when EH is on maternity leave and possibly after. Consider the source. I don’t read it but it is all over the internet. As some said, they did get Edward’s affair right.
So that should make some very happy, that she may be on TV.
Man, I just don’t get how some are homophobic and just can’t understand that the Miss USA pagent has become political. It is owned by Trump, after all. Controversy equals ratings equals profits. He saved Tara and Carrie. Lots of mileage.
Can anyone really believe these young women are representative of young women - drugs, boob jobs, being inarticulate and not aware of current events, let alone modeling topless?
May 12th, 2009 at 9:13 pm
# 95 Stacee says” I sometimes wonder if this is a case of someone having different usernames and forgetting to log out after spouting one thing, therefore the true nature comes out.”
Ok, am I naive or doesn’t Winnie have the capability to see if someone is using different names? Wouldn’t she see that they have the same email? I’m confused or maybe too trusting.
May 12th, 2009 at 9:14 pm
I really haven’t been paying close attention to the whole CP thing but I think Donald Trump explained the pictures and said she did not violate her contract. Then he said something about this being the year 2009.
I am not a homophobe and well aware of all the gay fashion designers. Any one of them would have been a superior judge imo of a beauty pagent. Perez Hilton is very low class, tacky and would make a better judge of the Mr. America contest. Have you ever been to his site or read about some of the stuff he’s said and done? I really doubt that Perez Hilton admires the female form. He has had the lewdest pictures of himself on his site and crude doesn’t begin to describe him.
May 12th, 2009 at 9:14 pm
Well, I really don’t think I should comment any further until we get the expert opinion of bits, who once judged a miss teen usa pageant.

Gay marriage is a huge issue in California. It was on their ballot, and it has been a national issue because of it. Miss California is the perfect person to ask this question.
If he would have asked someone where this wasnt an issue in their state then it wouldnt have been as relevant.
May 12th, 2009 at 9:18 pm
I think people can have different emails.
I am really getting tired of the trolls that come in and act all nice, ask for sympathy, really add nothing, throw a zinger, and slither back to where they come. A lot of work to eventually figure them out.
Gotta agree Stacee - starved for attention.
If someone questions me, I’ll respond. But not the troll don’t. And I’m thinking different usernames. I hope they get help.
May 12th, 2009 at 9:18 pm
How many of you can name the actual winner of the contest (without using Google)?
I can’t.
Seems CP is the person that came out on top here; she gets to play the poor, persecuted victim, she’s getting a lot of press, attention. She probably has lots of gigs lined up once her time representing the state (or country!) of California has concluded.
She should probably send Perez champagne and a big thank you card for that.
May 12th, 2009 at 9:19 pm
Roger, Perez didn’t choose who received the question. Cali picked the index card out of a bowl. Any of the finalist could have chosen the question.
May 12th, 2009 at 9:23 pm
Thanks for answering my question, Mary Evans.
More than one email and different user names? Now that is someone looking for a fight or lots of attention. And also seems like they have too much time on their hands.

Everyone,
You can email Mike Huckabee at huckmail@foxnews.com to let him know what questions you would like him to ask Elisabeth when she is on his show this coming Saturday, May 16.
May 12th, 2009 at 9:29 pm
OK, getting late but fascinating questions. Googled it and one question was “is universal healthcare a right of a citizen.”
Not sure if the question was asked by a gay or straight. LOL But, imo, CP is a lying victim, about the photos. And right on Lopez.
But a victim is a victim. Like poor little pregnant Elisabeth.

Interesting….. I didnt see the show so I didnt know….. but I am still skeptical.
I have seen enough “reality” shows to know that the fix is in…. DumpTruck has a reality show himself, so he knows how to fix “random” events
Even if it was random, Miss California getting the question was a lot more relevant than a different state.
May 12th, 2009 at 9:31 pm
Nan W and the rest … have you ever paused to consider that sometimes there is more than one person using a computer and ergo, diffent email addy’s and names?
May 12th, 2009 at 9:33 pm
Thanks Sunny. Can someone let me know that they have cut and pasted the Executive Director of Celiac Disease Foundation? I am not able to. sob
But will email my opinion, nevertheless.
I think we bombarded LKL in a flurry, this time we have time.
May 12th, 2009 at 9:36 pm
Perez Hilton is a flaming homosexual and the kind that many in the gay community despise.
He has become infamous and very, very wealthy from his celebrity gossip site. A year or so ago, he posted a picture of himself standing on a sidewalk exposing himself. He has dyed his hair pink or orange among other things.
May 12th, 2009 at 9:38 pm
Winnie has made it clear that there is only one IP address per name and email addy.
However, those that are computer savvy can manipulate the IP address. I’m not suggesting anyone has done that. My opinion is that stupid people think alike and that’s why the posts sound similiar. We can’t expect independent thinking from those who lack intellict. IMO, that’s asking too much. Poor things have enough trouble keeping their talking points straight.
May 12th, 2009 at 9:39 pm
Roger - sometimes you surprise me. Now I know I can’t cut and paste (chastised) but can you not google?
You’re sounding like Whoopi - I don’t know, I didn’t see.
I posted to go to Huffington post earlier today regarding the Obama reaction to WS on Limbaugh. Yet you didn’t. And kept asking.
Now, I know I am the one, but really…………..
May 12th, 2009 at 9:41 pm
LOL…I misspelled intellect. Put me in the stupid category.
May 12th, 2009 at 9:44 pm
May 12th, 2009 at 9:52 pm
If more than one person uses a computer, the IP address would be the same but the names and email addys would be different. That could easily be the case in any household with more than one person or in an office, school, library, etc.
May 12th, 2009 at 9:54 pm
Lopez says stupid people think alike but does not say that some intelligent people think alike. He and some others seem to love insulting posters who disagree with him.
May 12th, 2009 at 9:56 pm
That’s true. But I do believe Winnie said one email and name per IP address. If the name or email is changed and the IP address is the same, the post goes into moderation. That’s how Winnie explained it last year.
May 12th, 2009 at 9:58 pm
Yes, that Lopez fellow. What a jerk.
May 12th, 2009 at 10:03 pm
LOL You’re not a jerk, Lopez.
May 12th, 2009 at 10:04 pm
Ha, ha…Lopez insults even himself. However, Lopez is a common name so it is possible that comment above was made by another person with the same surname.

If he would have asked someone where this wasnt an issue in their state then it wouldnt have been as relevant.
MY RESPONSE: Yes, I do believe that it was an inappropriate and polarizing question because: We already know that it is a division of opinion. Making differences between groups or ideas extreme, hardening opposing between them – becoming even more extreme and controversial. A Beauty Pageant is not the place.
Mr. Hilton stated on MSNBC that he asked Ms. Prejean that question because she is Miss California and she represents that State (what is the name of the previous Miss California?), he felt that it was a legitimate question.
What is next? Asking a contestant from one of the Southern states how she feels about black people? Is this a stretch?
The debate over Same-Sex marriage may be a huge debate in California. But many, many people are not comfortable taking a stand on the issue publicly and/or privately — and DID NOT even vote on the ballot. I live in California and I know for a fact many people are being harassed, victimized, homes vandalized, etc. simply for opposing same-sex marriage. It has been quite nasty since November 5th.
It is becoming a question of Civil Rights or Civil Unrest.

May 12th, 2009 at 10:23 pm
DiannaC,
How do people know who to attack? How do they know who voted for or against gay marriage? Are the bigots vocal? Putting up bigoted signs?
May 12th, 2009 at 10:26 pm
“That’s true. But I do believe Winnie said one email and name per IP address”
There are programs that block your IP address or change it. So someone could very well have multi-personalities on here and it’s been mentioned that it’s one of the regulars. They create personalities to cause trouble and then come back under their regular name and get right in the middle of it. Sometimes they slip up and use similar expressions or writing styles.
May 12th, 2009 at 10:31 pm
I made mention of the IP address manipulation earlier. Since my guess it just as good as anyone else’s, I’ll stick to my “stupid people think alike” theory. The comment upsets some. In turn, that makes me happy. Ying and Yang. Life at its best.
May 12th, 2009 at 10:35 pm
@ Mary Evans: to find Celiac Foundation warning; just google “Elaine Monarch + Celiac + Hasselbeck…several references will come up that you can go to. If still having problems, I will repaste here.
@ All: just realised, even though Huckabee show is broadcast Saturday - it is likely it is taped prior; to be safe, should try and send in Questions before Thursday afternoon if possible

Some families might have that arrangement and all that would differ would be the names.

Since you say you like to upset people, does that make you a flamer, Lopez?
May 12th, 2009 at 10:47 pm

#227 Stacee- “Who is being harassed”?
MY RESPONSE: Stacee, I will provide a couple of examples: (a) Companies or invidivuals who donated to “Yes on Proposition 8″ campaign names being leaked online and via the media– these companies losing business because of their views. Individuals having their homes, cars spray-painted as being Anti-Gay, Homophobic, attacked, bullied etc.
People who voted “No” ARE NOT ALL, anti-gay — it is a question for many of religious beliefs. And the question was confusing to some people who do not have a problem with Same-Sex Civil unions — but for them marriage is between a man and woman.
The really big problem was that prior to the November 4th election, the proponents to Prop. 8 did not do their homework, make their case, research different religons, explain what rights they want and …. ASSUMED that Prop 8 would not pass in California. The vote was extremely close — but it was quite shocking and unbelievable even to other states. And the vote was close because many, many people did not event vote on the measure.
African-Americans only made up 12% of the vote, however an overwhelming of them voted “yes’ on Prop. 8 because most religious Afr. Americans are Baptist. No one reached out them prior to Nov. 4th. No one reached out to the Latin Community or the Asian Community. Ages 18- 40 tended to vote “No” — over 50 voted “Yes”.
The ads on TV for “Yes” on Prop 8 scared a large number or parents — because it stated that “Same-Sex” marriage would be taught it school. The proponents did not even counter that ad.
And the rioting beginning on Nov. 5th — I could go on and on, but it has been really sad and disturbing!

Nice work, Rachel. You’re using a derivative of flaming in a non-derogatory fashion this time. Showing off your broad vocabulary in this thread, huh?
May 12th, 2009 at 10:52 pm
@ Mary Evans: not sure how I can help? if I cut and paste the Celiac Foundation warning here you will still need to cut/paste to put it into your email??
May 12th, 2009 at 10:55 pm
#213 Mary Evans–
Roger - sometimes you surprise me. Now I know I can’t cut and paste (chastised) but can you not google?
Yes I google… I google all the time.
The posts that I made about the Whitehouse Dinner were directed to that troll…. I have trolls tell me to google all the time. I saw your post after I responded (incorrectly) the 2nd time…. and I did google it, and admitted to my mistake.
My comment about the beauty pageant was about the question and not the way the question was chosen.
I seldom go look at clips of programs that I dont want to watch in the first place. Maybe it is irresponsible of me to comment on something that I didnt watch live, but I usually have a basic idea about what happened if I make a comment.
I saw the question and the answer….. and I heard about the hubbub that it caused…. but I didnt watch the actual pageant….. seems I didnt miss much.
Nice to see you back Lopez

Thanks, Raj.
Nice to see some familiar names.

#228 Stacee Says:
#DiannaC, do you remember the MSNBC show that Perez stated he asked her the question?”
MY RESPONSE: I just remembered — actually, it was on CNN on the Larry King show — the following is a short-version:
Perez Hilton Responds to Miss Calif’s Gay Marriage Stance in ‘Larry King Live’
April 21, 2009 08:38:21 GMT
Just a day after Miss California said that she believes marriage must be between man and woman, Perez Hilton discussed his decision to put up such question in ‘Larry King Live’.
Perez Hilton refused to lay down the issue of gay marriage that was controversially opposed by Miss California at the Miss USA pageant on Sunday, April 19. The celebrity blogger who was made a guest judge at the event, appeared on “Larry King Live” on Monday, April 20 to address why he asked such question.
“I felt it was a very important question for me to ask,” Perez explained. “It wasn’t meant to be a big bomb, or a very hard question to answer for that matter. She knew she had lost because it was a bad answer.”
He continued, “Miss USA should be all-inclusive. I heard very loud boos, and to my knowledge it was the first time a contestant had been booed. …I am very glad that I asked the question, and that we are having this conversation.”
21-year-old Carrie Prejean, representing California, answered a question from Perez which was: “Vermont recently became the fourth state to legalize same sex marriage. Do you think every state should follow suit? Why or why not?”
Her answer was: “Well I think it’s great that Americans are able to choose one or the other. We live in a land that you can choose same sex marriage or opposite marriage and, you know what, in my country and in, in my family, I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman.”
Perez was not pleased with that but Prejean did not regret her answer. “It did cost me my crown,” she said on Monday’s Billy Bush Show. “I wouldn’t have had it any other way. I said what I feel. I stated an opinion that was true to myself and that’s all I can do.”
At the same time, Perez also took it to his blog, calling her a “dumb b***h”. Keith Lewis, Co-Executive Director of Miss California USA/Teen USA also released a statement saying “Although I believe all religions should be able to ordain what unions they see fit, I do not believe our government should be able to discriminate against anyone. Religious beliefs have no place in politics in the Miss CA family.”
Below is an excerpt of the interview with Larry King , while the full version can be viewed on Perez Hilton.com.

DianaC, the percentage you provided for the black vote on Prop 8 was quickly refuted. Precint-level percentage was fifty something. The number was still higher than the average, but only by five percentage points or so.
May 12th, 2009 at 11:27 pm
Mary Evans–
I re-read my last post to you and it seemed harsh…. Sorry, I didnt mean to be harsh.
I do love the discussion that we have here, sometimes I dont do my homework….. I am very opinionated, sometimes that is a negative, but mostly, I try and make it a positive.
I will try and make a stronger effort in the future.

#242 Lopez
Yes Lopez. Thanks, that is true about the percentage points. My brain is on fire trying to remember everything. There has been so much anger!
May 12th, 2009 at 11:44 pm
LOL…things haven’t changed, Raj! You’re still apologizing. Man, it’s great to be back. That’s some funny shizz.
DiannaC, I’m sure it’s stressful.
I do think that a violent revolution is sometimes necessary. However, since gay marriages are legal in some States, the numbers will grow and the US Supreme Court will weigh in favorably on a federal level.
Because of that opinion, I believe the violence isn’t necessary. Especially when the Cali Supreme Court hasn’t made a decision on the matter. Stats from other States indicate that the Supreme Courts are trending toward legalized gay marriage. I suspect Cali will follow suit.
May 13th, 2009 at 2:17 am
DiannaC says: “The vote was extremely close — but it was quite shocking and unbelievable even to other states. And the vote was close because many, many people did not event vote on the measure.”
Actually – low voter turnout should have resulted in the failure of Prop. 8. It has been widely unreported in our corporate media that vote flipper Mike McConnell helped the GOP rigged the California election for Prop. 8. The vote count was outsourced to a private company – he has several. He was later killed in a single-engine plane crash in Ohio for ‘allegedly’ planning to testify against Kritter Rove and the GOPfia.
So, it’s 4:04 am and I can’t sleep - and Lopez pops into my head. So I get up and log on and what do I see? Ms. Lopez has retuned…as a HE.
Welcome back man.
Hope all is well, good to have you on the playground again.

Attorney in Ohio Election Fraud Case Offers Cooperation for Investigation into California’s Proposition 8
Arnebeck cites exit poll discrepancy
“Cliff Arnebeck, the Ohio attorney currently litigating the groundbreaking suit regarding alleged manipulation of the 2004 presidential election in Ohio, has written a letter to California Secretary of State Debra Bowen expressing concerns regarding the proposition 8 vote count.
Arnebeck raises questions about the Prop 8 vote count based on discrepancies between exit polls — which are used worldwide to flag suspicious election results — and official vote totals. The California portion of the National Exit Poll initially showed Prop 8 being defeated; then the poll results were adjusted to match election night vote tallies and showed Prop 8 passing.
Arnebeck writes, “Based on information we have received, it appears that this year’s California Proposition 8 election reflects such an exit poll discrepancy. The issue presented in Proposition 8 is part of the national culture war that Mr. Rove and his associates seek to perpetuate.”

Story of the Day: Threatened Rove IT Guru Dies Tragically, MSM MIA
Philosophical corporate media question: If the biggest potential whistle-blower since “Deep Throat” dies an untimely death and the mainstream media doesn’t cover it, did it really happen?
12/23/2008 “Last Friday evening, Michael Connell, a top IT consultant to Karl Rove, the Bush administration and the Republican National Party died when his single-engine plane crashed into a vacant house in Ohio. No one else was on board. Connell, Rove’s IT guru, created the alternate email system for the White House — the one about which the Bush administration claims an untold number of emails were destroyed — and was set to testify as a key witness in a lawsuit claiming fraud in the 2004 Presidential Election in Ohio, in which he was alleged to have helped electronically flip votes.
[...]What could possibly be the mainstream media’s justification for so conspicuously ignoring a story of this magnitude?”

May 13th, 2009 at 3:27 am
Had Cliff Arnebeck not put Mike McConnell on the stand one day prior to our Presidential election…John McCain would be president of the United States.
Upon learning that the Ohio Courts had put Mike McConnell and the GOP on notice, Rove called off the vote flippers by going on national television the day before the election and declaring a victory for Barack Obama. This was on Nov. 3, the same day Mike McConnell gave his deposition.
Up until that point, The Architect - Karl Rove, John McCain, Sarah Palin, Rush Limbaugh, Hannity-Hasselbeck & Murdoch Fiends all said we should expect a “major upset”…that the polls were tightening. This was a lie – only FOX polls showed a close race – but FOX has called elections before – and managed to get the major “news” organizations to fall in line.
GOP decoder ring says – they had rigged the 08 election and planned to flip it for McCain until Mike McConnell was put on the stand. Allegedly.
Then he died a month later.
May 13th, 2009 at 3:42 am
Lastly - Sarah Palin won her race for Governor on Diebold Voting Machines - the same Ohio-based machines used to rigged the 2004 election for Bush, the same machines banned in California - which is why Mike McConnell came in so handy - for awhile.
Palin also hosted Tim Griffin in the great state of Alaska. Griffin was a key player in the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth campaign against John Kerry. And he worked for Rove.
Griffin got on a plane “over 20 times last year” to work against Ballot Proposition 4, the Clean Water Initiative?
The apparatice is still there – another election can be stolen.

Sorry you couldn’t sleep last night, Kelly. But thanks for opening my eyes so wide this morning. I have read about this a little, but you have a way of putting things together in a very concise way. DiannaC Says: “I live in California and I know for a fact many people are being harassed, victimized, homes vandalized, etc. simply for opposing same-sex marriage. It has been quite nasty since November 5th.”
DiannaC Says: ” Stacee, I will provide a couple of examples: (a) Companies or invidivuals who donated to “Yes on Proposition 8″ campaign names being leaked online and via the media– these companies losing business because of their views. Individuals having their homes, cars spray-painted as being Anti-Gay, Homophobic, attacked, bullied etc.”
MY RESPONSE: Okay, maybe it’s just me, but your first statement implied you know people who are being harassed personally. However, your next reply points to businesses being targetted. Now I don’t condone anyone being attacked or harrassed but this is a far cry from what you initially alluded to.
I do recall posts informing people of businesses and people who donated to the Prop 8 initiative. As far as I know, donations are public records. That is not a “leak” by the media or otherwise. People only know who or how you voted if you tell them, so IMO you also implied that the state voting officials released that info. That is wrong.
In this instance, I feel the public has a right to know who donates to certain causes. I also feel people have the right to choose whether to give their business to these companies. That’s the chance one takes when they take a position that goes against certain beliefs of the consumer. There are certain business I personally refuse to support, and that is my right. I don’t feel that is harassment.
Now, vandalism and cars being painted and homes targetted such is another issue. That’s wrong, and is not to be condoned. Where are the news reports that this is occuring? I noticed you mention things have been ugly since Nov. 5th. Can you please elaborate?
May 13th, 2009 at 7:07 am
Here is the TRANSCRIPT of Carrie Prejeans’ answer to the Gay Marriage question:
Perez Hilton: “Vermont recently became the 4th state to legalize same-sex marriage. Do you think every state should follow suit. Why or why not?”
Prejean: “Well I think its great that Americans are able to choose one or the other. We live in a land where you can choose same-sex marriage or opposite marriage. And you know what, in my country, in my family, I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman. No offense to anybody out there, but that’s how I was raised and that’s how I think it should be between a man and a woman. Thank you very much.”
May 13th, 2009 at 7:08 am
Sorry NanW - if only all Americans knew what the GOP has been doing…we could shut down FOX and arrest Rove. We could send Bush/Cheney to Iraq.
Actually, that not true – many right-wingers know – they just don’t care so long as they’re in power. What they don’t realize is they are digging their own graves.
Should be Mike Connell - not McConnell.
BTW - it was FOX News that invited Palin to the White House Correspondence Dinner. Fair and Balanced Fox Nation - trying to lift Palin’s profile and sagging poll numbers.
She canceled last minute.
May 13th, 2009 at 7:13 am
Thanks for the MSNBC correction, DiannaC. I knew I did not see it on that channel.
I appreciate you clarifying that it was CNN.
My understanding is the contestant picks a judge’s name out of the bowl, and the judge that was randomly picked gets to ask a question. Prejean was not targetted because she is from California, she just had the bad luck (or good luck!, depending how you look at it) to pick Perez’s name from the bowl.
Obviously the questions were presceened by pageant officials, so they felt it was an ok question to be asked.

And while we’re talking about beauty pageant contestant intellect - - here’s an oldie but goodie :
From Miss Lauren Caitlin Upton, Miss Teen South Carolina - 2007.
QUESTION: “Recent polls have shown a fifth of Americans cannot locate the United States on a world map. Why do you think this is?”
UPTON ANSWERS: “I personally believe that U.S. Americans are unable to do so because, uh, some, uh… people out there in our nation don’t have maps, and, uh, I believe that our education like such as in South Africa and, uh, the Iraq everywhere like, such as and… I believe that they should, our education over here in the U.S. should help the U.S., err, uh, should help South Africa and should help the Iraq and the Asian countries, so we will be able to build up our future for our children.”

I was just reading the reviews of EH’s “Pulitzer Prize contender” at Amazon & this review was very interesting, it mentions the warning by the Celiac Foundation:
“Caroline Gruzin (Sunny)
This book by Elisabeth Hasselbeck is so poorly written and so full of inaccurate information that the national CELIAC FOUNDATION took the highly unusual step of issuing a warning to people that the book is full of inaccuracies, dangerous and trivializes celiac disease.
Anyone thinking about buying this book needs to consider the serious warning issued by the Celiac Foundation.
The Celiac Foundation, a national non-profit organization dedicated to researching celiac and helping victims of celiac is warning that Elisabeth Hasselbeck’s book is INACCURATE, DANGEROUS AND TRIVIALIZES THE DISEASE. ”
LOL The “Pulitzer Prize contender” was my early morning sarcasm already working!!!

A poster at TwoP said this:
“I hated Sherri’s Rod Blagojevich wig.”
LOL! That was a horrible looking wig, not flattering at all. But I’m lol’ing because Blago hair is a perfect description of the wig! ha!
Also, I saw her outfit. Again, not flattering. She should burn it. And throw the wig into the fire too.

Prop 8 Donor Web Site Shows Disclosure Law Is 2-Edged Sword
February 7, 2009
FOR the backers of Proposition 8, the state ballot measure to stop single-sex couples from marrying in California, victory has been soured by the ugly specter of intimidation.
Some donors to groups supporting the measure have received death threats and envelopes containing a powdery white substance, and their businesses have been boycotted.
The targets of this harassment blame a controversial and provocative Web site, eightmaps.com.
The site takes the names and ZIP codes of people who donated to the ballot measure — information that California collects and makes public under state campaign finance disclosure laws — and overlays the data on a Google map.
Visitors can see markers indicating a contributor’s name, approximate location, amount donated and, if the donor listed it, employer. That is often enough information for interested parties to find the rest — like an e-mail or home address. The identity of the site’s creators, meanwhile, is unknown; they have maintained their anonymity.
Eightmaps.com is the latest, most striking example of how information collected through disclosure laws intended to increase the transparency of the political process, magnified by the powerful lens of the Web, may be undermining the same democratic values that the regulations were to promote.
With tools like eightmaps — and there are bound to be more of them — strident political partisans can challenge their opponents directly, one voter at a time. The results, some activists fear, could discourage people from participating in the political process altogether.
That is why the soundtrack to eightmaps.com is a loud gnashing of teeth among civil libertarians, privacy advocates and people supporting open government. The site pits their cherished values against each other: political transparency and untarnished democracy versus privacy and freedom of speech.
“When I see those maps, it does leave me with a bit of a sick feeling in my stomach,” said Kim Alexander, president of the California Voter Foundation, which has advocated for open democracy. “This is not really the intention of voter disclosure laws. But that’s the thing about technology. You don’t really know where it is going to take you.”
Ms. Alexander and many Internet activists have good reason to be queasy. California’s Political Reform Act of 1974, and laws like it across the country, sought to cast disinfecting sunlight on the political process by requiring contributions of more than $100 to be made public.
Eightmaps takes that data, formerly of interest mainly to social scientists, pollsters and journalists, and publishes it in a way not foreseen when the open-government laws were passed. As a result, donors are exposed to a wide audience and, in some cases, to harassment or worse.
A college professor from the University of California, San Francisco, wrote a $100 check in support of Proposition 8 in August, because he said he supported civil unions for gay couples but did not want to change the traditional definition of marriage. He has received many confrontational e-mail messages, some anonymous, since eightmaps listed his donation and employer. One signed message blasted him for supporting the measure and was copied to a dozen of his colleagues and supervisors at the university, he said.
“I thought what the eightmaps creators did with the information was actually sort of neat,” the professor said, who asked that his name not be used to avoid becoming more of a target. “But people who use that site to send out intimidating or harassing messages cross the line.”
Joseph Clare, a San Francisco accountant who donated $500 to supporters of Proposition 8, said he had received several e-mail messages accusing him of “donating to hate.” Mr. Clare said the site perverts the meaning of disclosure laws that were originally intended to expose large corporate donors who might be seeking to influence big state projects.
“I don’t think the law was designed to identify people for direct feedback to them from others on the other side,” Mr. Clare said. “I think it’s been misused.”
Many civil liberties advocates, including those who disagree with his views on marriage, say he has a point. They wonder if open-government rules intended to protect political influence of the individual voter, combined with the power of the Internet, might be having the opposite effect on citizens.
“These are very small donations given by individuals, and now they are subject to harassment that ultimately makes them less able to engage in democratic decision making,” said Chris Jay Hoofnagle, senior fellow at the Berkeley Center for Law and Technology at the University of California.
THANKS to eightmaps.com, the Internet is abuzz with bloggers, academics and other pundits offering potential ways to resolve the tension between these competing principles. One idea is to raise the minimum donation that must be reported publicly from $100, to protect the anonymity of small donors.
Another idea, proposed by a Georgetown professor, is for the state Web sites that make donor information available to ask people who want to download and repurpose the data to provide some form of identification, like a name and credit card number.
“The key here is developing a process that balances the sometimes competing goals of transparency and privacy,” said the professor, Ned Moran, whose undergraduate class on information privacy spent a day discussing the eightmaps site last month.
“Both goals are essential for a healthy democracy,” he said, “and I think we are currently witnessing, as demonstrated by eightmaps, how the increased accessibility of personal information is disrupting the delicate balance between them.”

Judge Rules Prop. 8 Donations Be Made Public
SACRAMENTO (AP) ―
January 9, 2009Close
Related Stories
A federal judge on Thursday denied a request to keep the names of donors to California’s anti-gay marriage initiative secret, saying the public has a right to know who’s giving money to state ballot measures.
Supporters of the initiative, which was approved by voters in November, had sought a preliminary injunction to hide the identities of those who contributed to their campaign.
They had asked the judge to block disclosure of late donors, who gave in the final weeks of the campaign or shortly after the election. The state is scheduled to release that report on Monday.
They also asked him to order the state to remove the names of all contributors to Proposition 8 that already had been posted on the secretary of state’s Web site.
U.S. District Judge Morrison England Jr. sided with the state. In his ruling from the bench, England said California’s campaign disclosure laws are intended to protect the public and are especially important during expensive initiative campaigns.
“If there ever needs to be sunshine on a political issue, it is with a ballot measure,” England said.
He said many campaign committees have vague names, obscuring their intent. The public would have no way of knowing who is behind the campaigns unless they can see who’s giving money, he said.

Thanks DiannaC for copy/pasting the article.
“Some donors to groups supporting the measure have received death threats and envelopes containing a powdery white substance”
Yeah, that is not right at all.
“and their businesses have been boycotted. “
I don’t see the problem with that.
So homes have been vandalized and cars spray painted? Didn’t see that mentioned. If so, wow.
It still does not make it clear that people are currently receiving these threats, like you intimated in a post above. I realize the article was written in February, however the article seems to have an interest in highlighting the eightmaps site, and not actions of supposed vandalism.
I don’t have a problem with publicly disclosing names of people that make donations. It’s been happening for years. Where this site differs is they have compiled the names and pinpointed locations on a map. That’s the internet for ya.

DiannaC Says: “A number of the “harassment” incidents were reported on the “local” news speaking with people who had their homes/cars sprayed with paint, etc. I did not see on CNN or MSNBC.”
My RESPONSE: Wow. You’d think something like that would have made national news. Particularly since there was huge spotlight on the whole Prop 8 issue, and people blathering how many black people voted against it and all.
That’s really sad that people’s property was damaged in that manner.
Kelly, please check your email.
