I didn’t listen to your advice re posting on the message board at the view site, perhaps I am related to EH & can NOT listen!!!

Here is what I posted, where it is negative to EH, wonder if it will be deleted:
    ===========================================

“Submitted by cybergram 14/05/2009 05:55 am PDT

Why is ABC, Disney etc allowing Elisabeth Hasselbeck to be on “The View”?????

She brings absolutely nothing to the table. She constantly
makes statements that are wrong and could easily have been researched but….she would rather shriek that she is being “baited”,when questioned on her statements that others are “jealous” of her, that her being a Republican makes her a “scapegoat”

I have watched “The View” since 1997 and enjoyed Meredith, Star, Joy & Lisa Ling & Rosie so much. They had great chemistry and actually listened to each other and respected the “views” and opinions of each other & the guests.

Elisabeth Hasselbeck has turned this show into a tabloid show. If ABC wants ratings based on her actions & reactions they have truly lowered the bar on daytime TV.

Thank you to whoever started this message board, many, including myself, have been looking for a place where our impressions of “The View” could be expressed”
    ============================================
My comment about being glad to have the message board was sincere, because I have been wanting to express my feelings about the show ever since EH started taking it so far down hill!!!

  2. Sunny Says:

For some reason I thought Elizabeth Edwards was on today. Guess that is not until next week?

  3. MiamiVision Says:

Click on my name for 7 photos of Rahm Emanuel and Nancy Pelosi - looks like they have been very.close for over 2 years now.

  4. marilyn Says:

    Sunny-

YUP…. Elizabeth Edwards is next week.

  5. NanC Says:

EH said on Larry King Live that Elizabeth Edwards would be on “this” week.

  6. marilyn Says:

Friday May 15th: Tom Hanks, Ron Howard and Ayelet Zurer (”Angels & Demons”).

Friday should be good.I like Tom hanks

No EE, as far as I can see. They have mentioned a couple of times, EE is coming next week. ( I think )

  7. NanW. Says:

How nice that they mentioned Elizab…..I mean Sue Hassett’s book today!

  8. Roger from Ohio Says:

oh good…. they are gonna have a guest that tells us how to “bed beautiful celebrities”

    I cant wait….. such a respectful topic.

  9. berndoubt Says:

Whoopy (as Barbara spells it on twitter) trots out the Valley Girl because Barbara loves it and Whoopy needs this job.

  10. NanW. Says:

Joy, Continental does not own these small airlines, they contract them to do business. Research! Please!

  11. Joey Says:

Issues: Gays being able to openly serve in the military

GAY CHILDREN COMMITING SUICIDE BECAUSE OF BULLYING

So let’s talk about American Idol and self-promote…

Well that would be just like a woman…

Still on the couch due to back pain…and up early because of the pain.

  12. NanW. Says:

bern, too funny…”Whoopy” and Valley Girl voice…shows just how in touch doddy BW is.

  13. Pepperbird Says:

Pilots who have others’ lives in their hands should make more than $16,000. Surely even beginners make more than that? Or–if the salary figure is accurate–was she underpaid for being a woman?

  14. Pepperbird Says:

#8 Roger If that’s what they said I am disgusted too. (I was busy getting my coffee then.)

  15. mokka Says:

Is it true that Bitsy’s book will be on the NY Times Best Seller List?

    Satan wins again. sigh

  16. NanW. Says:

Joey, so sorry to hear you are still in pain. But it has not affected your compassion and knowledge.
I am a little snarky myself, hubby has been gone for a week, traveling. Miss him.

  17. Pepperbird Says:

    #15 mokka ROFL.

  18. NanW. Says:

Joey, so sorry to hear you are still in pain. But it has not affected your compassion and knowledge.
I am a little snarky myself, hubby has been gone for a week, traveling for work. Miss him.

  19. Pepperbird Says:

Joey, I hope you feel better soon. Did you try a warm shower and some Ibuprofen?

    Helps me.

  20. Joey Says:

#13 Pepper, Yes well, look at what we pay teachers.

  21. Roger from Ohio Says:

someone needs to say it because these disrespectful broads wont say it. T

The airplane went down, not because the co-pilot didnt have enough sleep…. not because the pilot and co-pilot were “flirting” but because there was too much ice accumulated on the plane.
The ice slowed down the plane, the pilot pulled up the nose of the plane instead of lowering the plane….. the plane stalled and fell out of the sky.
The airlines is putting out this other info to lower their liability and put the blame on the people that died.

  22. Pepperbird Says:

#21 Agree with you Roger. Knee-jerk reaCTION from corporate goons.

  23. NanW. Says:

#15 mokka, see yesterday’s #162 for the whole “NY Times” list…she is on some sub-set list. Smoke and mirrors.

  24. Pepperbird Says:

Liked Joy’s smackdown of EH! You go girl! I need to watch the whole sequence again though ’cause it went so fast.

  25. NanW. Says:

“Enhanced techniques” what a lovely euphemism for TORTURE, Lizzy.

  26. berndoubt Says:

It was TORTURE! TORTURE! Christians should be against TORTURE! Mothers should be against TORTURE! The experts have said that TORTURE doesn’t work!

    I don’t care what the situation…it doesn’t work and it’s immoral…WHO WOULD JESUS TORTURE?

  27. Pepperbird Says:

Trainwreck today, but at least the Girls of the View are all awake.

  28. Diane from N.J. Says:

    - TORTURE IS ILLEGAL -

  29. NanW. Says:

#21 Roger, I agree. And they were beyond disrepectful yesterday, too.

  30. Roger from Ohio Says:

the guy that interrogated this “terrorist” testified in front of congress yesterday.

He said that he was getting good actionable info from him….. then the CIA and “private contractors” came in and started the “enhanced interrogate techniques”
When they started torturing him… he shut down…. he stopped talking… they ruined the interrogation and got less info from him.

  31. mokka Says:

    {{{HUGS}}} for Joey!

#23 NanW. — Thanks for the heads up. I should’ve known there was spin involved.

  32. Pepperbird Says:

#26 ITA berndoubt! Can’t believe my ears ha EH still defends torture under a sanitized name “enhance interrogation”. She is parroting Death-Eater Cheney now.

  33. berndoubt Says:

The “ticking-time-bomb” scenario is a bogus argument. The intelligence community knows that most good intelligence is discovered LONG before a “time-bomb” is “ticking”. And even if that IS the situation, TORTURING won’t help.

#28, nice use of bold, Grasshopper !

  34. NanW. Says:

bern and DianeNJ, EXACTLY! And if she believes that torture is alright for our enemies, then does she believe it is alright for OUR troops, too??

  35. Joey Says:

Thank you all for your kindness…

There is no excuse for on-going government sanctioned torture on people who have been only deemed to be guilty. This mentality is archaic and dangerous…history is the best judge and it proves that we should not be going there…

  36. berndoubt Says:

Barbara isn’t in the news division or the entertainment division as far as I can tell.

  37. Pepperbird Says:

Is there a foreseeable end to this Shaggy-dog story BaWa is telling us about Jon Peters?

  38. Mary Evans Says:

Just have to jump in althought show not on yet - all Eliz (BW’s twitter name for her) would say about torture to our own troops would be “that’s unfortunate.” What a evil witch.

  39. berndoubt Says:

What did Whoopy say about old at the end of that segment? Damn digital revolution is going to be the death of me. I can’t watch a single program without interruption!

  40. Roger from Ohio Says:

    #33 berndoubt–

The “ticking-time-bomb” scenario is a bogus argument.

Everytime one of these right wing nutcases bring up the “ticking-time-bomb” scenario, I want to ask them this question…

If American lives would be saved….. if it would help in some way… would you allow your child to be waterboarded?

I bet many would lie and say yes.

  41. Carmella Says:

The airlines always rule pilot error (so I’ve been told) to keep perception that the planes are safe…

Can’t take anymore enhanced techniques from EH. Before I go face the snow - WHY WHY WHY do the panel pretend to hear Barbara’s stories like it’s the first time?

When I googled the “list” last night- couldn’t find EH. Must be buried in their somewhere perhaps with all her other ‘advice and lies to live by’.

  42. berndoubt Says:

We put Japanese soldiers to death for doing to our troops what our government did to “enemy combatants”. Were we wrong then? Or are we wrong now? Pick one.

  43. Eva Says:

The torture discussion… a good analysis is at Huff Po under Paul Begala: Mr. Cheney, You did not keep us safe.

Torture produced false information that the Bush admin used to get us into this horrible war.

I don’t get how Christians, who are supposed to follow the teachings of Jesus Christ, can get behind torture or “enhanced interrogation techniques.” (please. She had to say that.)

  44. NanW. Says:

Just imagine if Timmy was a soldier(fat chance), would she still see it “unfortunate” if he was TORTURED?? Mary Evans, calling her and evil witch is an understatement.

  45. berndoubt Says:

#40, “If American lives would be saved….. if it would help in some way… would you allow your child to be waterboarded?”

Fu&^ing chickenhawks won’t even let their kids sign up to SERVE in the military.

  46. Roger from Ohio Says:

One of the TV talking heads also say this.

A report was done that said, regimes that utilize torture do it to intimidate and not to get intelligence.

Those trying to get good intelligence will not use those techniques.

  47. berndoubt Says:

I know I watched Brooke Shields take Bitsy’s hand and then hug everybody else.

  48. berndoubt Says:

Now, more important than torture is WTF does Bitsy hang off her head everyday? Are they chandeliers that were used during the musical segments or what?

  49. Joey Says:

Please Barbara, if anyone had my son and threatened his life he would be toast…but that’s how the mothers in Iraq and around the world feel…and the mother’s of our dead soldiers…

Thank god for Joy and her knowledge about the ticking bomb theory…

  50. Sunny Says:

REPOSTING from yesterday given EH continues to talk about being on the NY Times Bestsellers list:

Lets clear something up. EH was NOT on the “NY Times Bestseller List” - ever. She was on the “subset” NY Times Bestseller list of “ADVICE (HARDCOVER)” books. Further, she debuted on the list at #2 and then disappeared immediately. In other words, national bookstore orders (pre-sales) were large enough to put her on the list. It does not mean the books were sold and quite frankly I expect we will see EH’s book in the 99 cents bin by the end of the year if not sooner. Being on the hardcover list on release is one thing and driven by pre-sales, being on the list for many weeks and then being on the paperback list means you have sustained “best selling” sales.

All book publishers put a lot of effort in to getting on any NY Times List. Unforunately, the NYT has dropped their standards and created many of these “sub-lists” which are quite useless and not meaningful other than for publishers to be able to crow that “XYZ” book is on the NYT list. Very misleading and bordering on unethical. When you buy a book at the shop that has a label saying on the NYT Bestsellers list, read the fine print. It may no be on “real” NYT List, but on one of these manufactured sub-lists.

All marketing BS. Not dissimilar to wine producers who haev all the gold and silver “award” stickers on their bottles. Have a close look at what the stickers really say.

LOPEZ: to answer your question, “subset” is probably not the right term and a little confusing. a separate list is generated in about 10 specialist categories. HOWEVER, if a book is say #3 on the real/full NY Times List it will still appear on the subset list. So Bitsy was apparently #2 for a day on the ‘ADVICE (HARDCVOER)” subset list, and nevered appear on the “main” NY Times Non-Fiction Bestseller.

Here is link to NYT Bestseller lists for week of May 17. EH is not on any list even though a bunch of really lame books are. I think the list is updated on Sunday.

  51. Roger from Ohio Says:

    #43 Eva–

I don’t get how Christians, who are supposed to follow the teachings of Jesus Christ, can get behind torture or “enhanced interrogation techniques.”

They pretend that it didnt happen. If it didnt happen then nothing was wrong… we are at war ya know.

  52. berndoubt Says:

Hey, there’s war in the bible, so it’s God’s will. But then, so is slavery and shellfish!

  53. Andy Says:

The competition for clapping was just too hilarious. Do you think they all have huge egos and really care about how much applause they get?

  54. Mary Evans Says:

I just read the transcript at foxnews where EH appears on Greta. Greta said “will debut #2″ and “it’s going to debut at #2. EH says she “and Dr Oz have had loads of conversations on”. So now she is dragging him in.

  55. Eva Says:

It was funny that EH got a smattering of clapping for praising Obama, then Joy said something similar and got cheers.

  56. Sunny Says:

BTW on Amazon bestseller list (which is updated HOURLY)..EH has moved from 40 (or lower) yesterday to 23 right now. This shows impact of appearing on Fox / Greta with their huge audiences (and Republican faithful). No wonder EH is pumping her Fox connections with another appearance on Huckabee this weekend. But she can only show up to whore her book on Fox so many times. Guess it will be in her interest over the next few days/weeks to stir up some controversy on the View (”baiting”) so Hannity will have her back on under the guise of talking about some controversy and then she can slip in a segment about her book.

  57. Roger from Ohio Says:

    #53 Andy–

The competition for clapping was just too hilarious

Go back and watch the clip…. the first to get applause was Elisabeth…. Why? because Bill Geddie lit up the applause sign.

The rest got applause because Joy shamed him into lighting up the light again….. you dont think she was talking to the audience when she said… where is my applause?

    Remember….. the show is fake.

  58. NanW. Says:

    DFTT

  59. Sunny Says:

I can’t watch today’s show until later..but if Brooke snubbed the bits, that makes me happy. Someone should do a video of all the snubs she has had and post it on You Tube. Alicia Silverstone, Susan Sarandon, Ashley Judd, Brooke Shields…there is a bunch of ‘em.

  60. Mary Evans Says:

So did WG give a shout out to LOST’s show last night? It was incredible. Plus Rose and Bernard (the interracial couple as Whoopy called them) and VINCENT (the dog) were on!

Just fair play, imo since I have to listen to AI, DWTS and the rest of their reality shows endlessly.

  61. berndoubt Says:

Neal said if he told them he’d have to kill them, then he “slipped” about his character’s storyline calling for him to die at the end of the season…

  62. berndoubt Says:

Now, Neal made them pay for a rendition of “Happy Birthday”. He’s an AWESOME guest!

  63. Joey Says:

I still can’t believe that anyone buys into the “enhanced interrogation” term. Why then not call abuse ‘enhanced discipline’, or rape ‘enhanced sexual relations’. Torture is what it is and all the euphemisms in the world won’t change what it is and what has happened. Sadly many people in power think the average citizen is too dumb to notice these things…

  64. berndoubt Says:

Go get ‘em, Joey! The average citizen IS too dumb to notice…sorry average American, but you are!

Its a beeootifull day in amerika.

  65. Sunny Says:

Mary Evans: I posted link to current NY Times bestseller list for ‘Hardcover Advice’ earlier. If EH is on the list this Sunday then I’ve lost all respect for NYT lists because she has been out of top 40 selling books most of this week so there are easily 10+ ‘advice’ books above her on true bestselling lists.

BTW, just checked and she is #37 on Barnes and Noble list again with many advice/self help books ahead of her. So again makes no sense if #2 on this Sundays’ NYT list.

  66. berndoubt Says:

Amazon.com Sales Rank: #25 in Books (See Bestsellers in Books)

Popular in these categories: (What’s this?)
#1 in Books > Health, Mind & Body > Diets & Weight Loss > Special Conditions
#1 in Books > Health, Mind & Body > Personal Health > Healthy Living

She’s #1 when you add three qualifiers, including “Special Conditions”

  67. mokka Says:

#50 Sunny - Thanks for the breakdown.

So basically, the real NY Times Best Seller list is: Hardcover Fiction, Hardcover Non-Fiction, Paperback Fiction, Paperback Non-Fiction?

Right now, I’m looking at the NY Best Seller List that’ll be published on Sunday, and according to the website, it says: Rankings reflect sales, for the week ending May 2, at many thousands of venues where a wide range of general interest books are sold nationwide.

So, I take her book will be on the following week’s list (May 24th) because her book came on May 4th.

  68. Sunny Says:

    #66 - Bernie,

I also have a #1 selling book in the category:

Books > Television > Most Annoying People > Unpublished

  69. Pepperbird Says:

    #63 ITA Joey. Well said.

I can’t tell if conservatives are using the sanitized phrase “enhanced interrogation” to start controversy, or just to convince themselves that changing a word makes the deed OK.

It seems to be the new tactic in politics on the conservative side.

  70. Joey Says:

    #68 Sunny

    funny

  71. Stacee Says:

    Whoopy…lol…love it :-p

I did not see Bit’s book on the current NYTimes best seller list. On Greta, did they say it will be #2, or that it has been already?

Joey, sorry you are still in pain. Sending well wishes your way.

  72. Stacee Says:

    #63, Joey. Excellent point. BRAVO

  73. Sunny Says:

@Mokka: I always thought the NYT list was weekly. Strange current list is at 2 May which suggests there are 2 weeks between NYT lists. So could be EH will come out on this Sunday’s list reflecting sales on launch date? (I guess there is also strategy in selecting launch date to maximize chances/time on NYT lists).

EH’s book has definitely fallen on Amazon and Barnes and Noble lists (which are effectively real time, udpated every hour). So NYT List seems to be a real lag statistic but big publicity nonetheless. Guess we’ll have to see what NYT says on Sunday.

The other interesting thing on Amazon is that when a book is in top 25 it gets 45% off cover price which is a pretty hefty discount, 40% if in top 26-50, etc. NYT list books get automatic min 40% off which begs the question of whether bookshop sales are very representative.

Anyhoo, at one level I hope the book makes a lot of money…because maybe the “ghostwriters” will benefit from increased sales, too! LOL

  74. Rachel Says:

I still think Sue Hassett needs to send President and Michelle Obama a copy of her book. I am quite sure they’d find it interesting, especially Michelle….given her interest in health and food.

  75. Rachel Says:

I hope to see Sue Hassett on Oprah Winfrey, Larry King, Huckabee, Greta and “The View” in the very near future. Here’s hoping HER BOOK is on a REAL bestseller list soon.

  76. Rachel Says:

I do recall that Elisabeth Hasselbeck made #1 on the “worst interviewer’s list” a year or so ago.

  77. Diane from N.J. Says:

Republicans - and their ’sanitized phrase’….“enhanced interrogation techniques”. These euphemisms are not new.

No this has been their tactic for the last 8 years - - they HIGHJACKED LANGUAGE. The Bush Administration even had a speech writer (cant remember his name, Frank Luntz perhaps? - help them craft/cloak their messages this way. Enabling the dumbing down of America and pulling the wool over our eyes.

Leave No Child Behind Act = did not fund
Clean Air Act = lowered polution standards
Patriot Act = allowed warrant less wiretapping
Operation Iraqi Freedom = no need to explain that farce

    and more…

Radical leftist liberal = radical makes libs sound crazy like we’ll blow up federal buildings
Activist judges = judges have no judgement & have their own personal agenda rather than following the law
Pro-life = woman who should have reproductive rights don’t care about the sanctity of life

You see then they all got (and still do) their daily talking points - and repeat and repeat.

If you say it long enough and loud enough - it sticks.

They highjacked language to deceive us.

  78. Rachel Says:

Since Elisabeth said she and Michelle Obama are such good chums now after their “feud”, I bet Michelle Obama makes it a point to watch “The View.” Or, she could Tivo it or just read about what she might have missed right here.

  79. May Says:

Whooph gave kudos to EH, saying that her book was #2 in her catagory.
Brooke Shields doesn’t look so cute anymore..something needs to be done with her hair, bangs or something. Maybe Jon Peters could give her a trim or something. Of course on my best day, I don’t hold a candle to her worse day but I’m older, etc.

  80. Diane from N.J. Says:

Bern - Thank you Sensei. I feel like David Caradine.

    Roger - DFTT.

Joey - Hope your back is better.Make sure you do stretches every day. Have you ever noticed that your doggies do that every morning ? That’s why in yoga, one of the popular strethes is called “Downward facing Dog”.

    ;)

  81. Pepperbird Says:

#77 Very well said, Diane from NJ. The Patriot Act, No Child Left Behind, and Iraqi Freedom were particularly shameless double-talk. I didn’t understand your Pro-life bullet though.

I just read some in-depth analysis in my newspaper about Obama’s change of mind on showing the prisoner abuse pictures. He changed his mind, they said, when certain generals convinced him to do so.

Granted, the President has more information than we will ever have, but this time is at least the second instance where he has listened to those generals. First, he listened to them when they said to keep many more troops in Iraq and keep the war going. Now he isn’t supporting torture, but some might say he is not letting it come to light.

Don’t listen to those generals, Mr. President! As I’ve said before, they have a vested career interest in keeping war alive and atrocities hidden. They want bigger salaries, more ribbons and promotions, and a larger retirement based on final rank. So they keep the wars going to help their own wallets. They learned it from Cheney and his fellow warmongers.

  82. ds Says:

Due to the ongoing absence of big name stars on this show, methinks Babs has had no choice but to relax her rule. You know, the rule she made when Barry Manilow refused to appear on the show (good for him) because he found EH just too offensive: “If you will not sit with one of us, you will not sit with any of us”. If tomorrow’s show featuring Tom Hanks was taped this week on EH’s day off, then I don’t think that is a coincidence. Elisabeth’s “day off” may not have been Elisabeth’s choice. (I’m sure Barbara would never admit it, though.)

  83. Stacee Says:

Sunny, I had forgotten Amazon takes 40-45% off cover price when a book hits the best seller list. Thanks for the reminder. I’ll have to keep my eye on that to take advantage of the savings.

    #77, Dianna of NJ: Exactly!

  84. Rachel Says:

ds You take the words out-of-my mouth. Why would any of them need a “day off” when they only work a couple of hours, four days a week?

Why would any A-list celebrity want to appear on that show after the way Shirley McClaine, for one, was treated?

I cannot tolerate Whoopi any longer. That “Valley Girl” thing she does is even beginning to sound a little “racist” to me. If Elizabeth, Joy or Barbara began talking in eubonics, I’ll just bet she and Sherri would have a fit and make a big to do over it.

  85. Roger from Ohio Says:

    #81 pepperbird–

    I didn’t understand your Pro-life bullet though.

Those that claim to be “pro-life” also are pro war, pro death penalty, support torture.

Pro-life is an incorrect term… they are anti-choice.

  86. Stacee Says:

ds, I understand what you are saying but I don’t think Tom Hanks would have a problem sitting and talking to all of the hosts. If there was an issue (and I don’t believe there would be), I think it would be more on the part of Bitsy.

Maybe she’s having personal health issues, which is why she’s taking a day off here and there. As much as I can’t stand her, I don’t believe she’d give up her cushy seat because of a particular guest appearing on the show. Why should she? This would give her the perfect opportunity to smile in their face and then stab them in the back (i.e. “so fresh, while the other who shall remain nameless…!”)

  87. Rachel Says:

Sherri makes me ill with her constant talk of being unable to “find a man” among other things. She is almost as bad as Star Jones in her hunt for A MAN…as if that is the answer to all her problems. As Whoopi quickly pointed out to her the other day, she’s already had one and look what happened!

  88. Kelly Says:

    Amazing.

First Whoopi incorrectly states that Elisabeth’s book is ranked number two. Not true. And Elisabeth takes full credit – even though another author has come forward (twice) with her copyrighted material claiming striking similarities between the two books. Just wait for it Bitsy – it’s coming.

Second: Elisabeth incorrectly concluded that President Obama decided to keep domestic wiretapping because he now sees the value in it. That was an inexcusable stretch that ABC should be called on – by the White House. Here is what the President actually said Elisabeth:

    Michael Scherer of TIME?

QUESTION: Thank you, Mr. President. During the campaign, you criticized President Bush’s use of the state secrets privilege, but U.S. attorneys have continued to argue the Bush position in three cases in court. How exactly does your view of state secrets differ from President Bush’s? And do you believe presidents should be able to derail entire lawsuits about warrantless wiretapping or rendition if classified information is involved?

OBAMA: I actually think that the state secret doctrine should be modified. I think right now it’s overbroad.

But keep in mind what happens, is we come in to office. We’re in for a week, and suddenly we’ve got a court filing that’s coming up. And so we don’t have the time to effectively think through, what exactly should an overarching reform of that doctrine take? We’ve got to respond to the immediate case in front of us.

There — I think it is appropriate to say that there are going to be cases in which national security interests are genuinely at stake and that you can’t litigate without revealing covert activities or classified information that would genuinely compromise our safety.

But searching for ways to redact, to carve out certain cases, to see what can be done so that a judge in chambers can review information without it being in open court, you know, there should be some additional tools so that it’s not such a blunt instrument.

And we’re interested in pursuing that. I know that Eric Holder and Greg Craig, my White House counsel, and others are working on that as we speak.

And third – the same Elisabeth Hasselbeck then goes on to defend torture – an illegal technique that has resulted in the murder of an undisclosed number of the 108 detainees killed while in US custody.

Fourth: President Obama’s decision to hold the photos is not a victory for hapless Elisabeth and her ailing GOP – it was done to offer full protection to our troops. This is not a liberal/conservative game. Torture and those who ordered it will face their day in court. If the Republicans were so concerned about inflaming the terrorists with these photos – they should have been equally inflamed when torture incited terrorists to kill thousands of our soldiers and behead American civilians. Don’t be fooled – the GOP are merely protecting their self-interests.

Which brings me to my final point: Don’t even bother Andy. You came to the wrong place to try to manipulate the discussion – no matter how hard you try to misspell and disguise your sad self. Buy Sue’s book and do your own homework. Some of us already have.

    Greed.

    #81 pepperbird–

I just read some in-depth analysis in my newspaper about Obama’s change of mind on showing the prisoner abuse pictures. He changed his mind, they said, when certain generals convinced him to do so.

Now this is just my personal opinion, I didnt read any articles… but I think one of the biggest reasons that President Obama changed his mind is because the pictures were going to come out on Memorial Day weekend.

I think it would have been insulting to release those pictures… then talk about them while we should be honoring the service that the millions of men and women gave to our country.

That was why he changed his mind. The pictures will come out when an investigation become official.

  90. Pepperbird Says:

#82 ds Interesting theory. Barbara usually seems protective and supportive of EH in public lately, so she and Bill G would do any reining in of Bitsy behind the scenes while smiling hypocritically for us. She’d probably tell EH “rest for your baby” so it wouldn’t upset Bits.

It really must be embarrassing for BaWa not to be able to get more current name stars on her show. And today she resorted to ancient interview clips with Brooke S and Jon P–probably to show her younger self too. I wonder if all the hoopla about the “most influential” list was a desperate attempt to get more high-profile guests.

  91. Stacee Says:

Oh and by the way, I don’t believe there are rules when it comes to Babs. She’s for whatever way the ratings blows.

  93. Lopez Says:

“LOPEZ: to answer your question, “subset” is probably not the right term and a little confusing. a separate list is generated in about 10 specialist categories. HOWEVER, if a book is say #3 on the real/full NY Times List it will still appear on the subset list. So Bitsy was apparently #2 for a day on the ‘ADVICE (HARDCVOER)” subset list, and nevered appear on the “main” NY Times Non-Fiction Bestseller.”

The reason a subset was created is because advice books outsell general nonfiction books.

The split of categories allowed more general nonfiction books to rank in the NYT list. The “main” non-fiction bestsellers listed isn’t representative of bestselling nonfiction books overall.

The books listed there are the bestsellers in the general category. If NYT allowed the advice books back into the “main” list, Bits book would most likely be there (probably at #1). Just like many of the other books in the advice category.

In fact, advice books are the biggest sellers in both the nonfiction and fiction categories.

  94. Stacee Says:

Roger Says: “That was why he changed his mind. The pictures will come out when an investigation become official.”

  96. Pepperbird Says:

#89 Aha Roger. Very perceptive. Memorial Day is coming up.

I think Obama (and Mrs Obama too) have great respect for our military, and that’s why he listens to the generals. But the generals today are not like Eisenhower and MacArthur. Many are careerists and conservatives who are far removed and protected from the battles and bloodshed.

The men and women who are fighting and being killed have opportunities for bonuses and steady work in this economy, but the generals do not truly care about their lives, and never have, since Vietnam. The generals care about their own finances and retirement income. They are like the immoral CEOs who destroy jobs and pensions to get huge salaries and bonus stock options.

there you are. Like DianefromNJ says “There are no coincidences”.

  102. Lopez Says:

“If NYT allowed the advice books back into the “main” list, Bits book would most likely be there (probably at #1).”

What I meant to say is probably at #2. She can’t possibly be #1 in the “main” list if she’s #2 in the advice, how-to list.

I don’t always like the ‘vanity’ part of Vanity Fair but it has a great group of contributors, and generally have ‘very’ well-researched articles.

Lopez 102: Hasselbeck isn’t even in the Top #15 in the Hardcover Advice category.

  105. Hallie Says:

That message board over at The View site has got some weird stuff going on. Joy’s getting slammed, unfairly in my opinion, and EH’s “fans” (or paid employees) are posting a lot defending poor little put-upon Bitsy. I don’t trust the site and I’m wondering if it’s abc’s way of trying to coax out and identify Bitsy’s detractors.

  106. Roger from Ohio Says:

All of this talk about NYT lists which is supposed to mean how good the book is, means nothing to me.

Lets have some honest numbers… such as, how many books have been sold…. raw number, not spun number.

A better number that would be very informative is how many orders were made….. if someone put in an order for 1,000 books, that shouldnt count as 1000 books sold but 1 order….. Lets see what number that is.

  107. Pepperbird Says:

I wonder if we will be spared forever from hearing any more dull, boring, worthless bits (pun intended) about AI when EH leaves the View, one way or another.

MANY OF US DO NOT CARE ABOUT AMERICAN IDOL.

  108. Lopez Says:

“Lopez 102: Hasselbeck isn’t even in the Top #15 in the Hardcover Advice category.”

Oops. I must have misread. I thought someone said she was too appear #2 in the advice, how-to hardcover list.

  109. Roger from Ohio Says:

    #104 Kelly–

Pepper 101: Sure –except Colin Powell was the man who made the case for the illegal Iraq War to the United Nations. He used his influence and power to walk us into the most privatized war in US history.

Yes that comment is true on the surface, but it goes much deeper than that.

Colin Powell was used by the Bush administration. If he went public with his “opinion” at that time, he would have been “retired” Just like so many generals that told Bush that he was wrong.

Powell has admitted to his mistake, and said that he thought he could do more good on the inside than on the outside where he had no influence.

  110. Lopez Says:

“Lets have some honest numbers… such as, how many books have been sold…. raw number, not spun number.”

The numbers are spun. “Trashy” romance novels outsell NYT fiction books. However, those books don’t make it to the list because they don’t fit NYT “standards.” And as I mentioned earlier, advice/how-to books got “kicked out” of the “main” non fiction category because those books outsell general non fiction and dominated the “main” list.

I like the idea of split categories because it provides a wider range of books to gain exposure. I’d rather see a book about Lincoln on the “main” general nonfiction category that may not have made the list otherwise because of a diet or a relationship book.

  111. Pepperbird Says:

#104 Kelly I have kept up with Powell enough to know that he claimed a couple of years ago that he tried to persuade Bush not to invade Iraq, but of course was overruled by Bush and Cheney. And he’s quoted as saying, “I tried to avoid this war. I took him [Bush] through the consequences of going into an Arab country and becoming the occupiers.” [source: Wikipedia]

You are right that in public “Colin Powell was the man who made the case for the illegal Iraq War to the United Nations. He used his influence and power to walk us into the most privatized war in US history.”

I (and I’m sure, many others) will always wonder why he did that. He could have been fed biased intelligence, and probably was. Bush was his commander in chief, and since Powell was loyal to the military ideals he’d lived by for most of his life, I think Powell believed he would be insubordinate (a court-martial offense) if he refused to carry out what Bush commanded him to do. I believe that he was between a rock and a hard place, and may also have been fed false information, as were many in Congress.

  112. Kelly Says:

Lopez: Greta Van Sufferin said it “debuted at #2” - who knows, considering she’s with FOX, I tend to suspect.

Rog: And then Powell resigned - from his inside job - with the blood of 4,294 soldiers on his hands. He escaped without a scratch.

ds - THANKS - off to paint another shed.

Mibi: I do notice your typos, but they don’t slow me down at all, because I know your comment will have substance.

I think Walt Disney is puking in his grave at these bimbas. He didn’t even allow women employees to wear dangly earrings.

  115. Pepperbird Says:

#112: Kelly I think it was Bush and Cheney who have the blood of the 4,294 soldiers on their hands. Powell was abiding by the oaths and rules he swore to uphold in the military.

  116. Sunny Says:

DS @ #82: Re guests asking for EH to be absent, this was my thought as well when I heard that EH all of the sudden had yesterday off. My thinking was / still is that maybe the guest in question is Elizabeth Edwards? Now Ms. Edwards was in NYC this week as she appeared on Today Show with Matt Lauer. Ms. Edwards has asked / made it a condition of her interviews - including Oprah adn Today show that Rielle Hunter’s name not be used during the interview. Oprah and the Today Show complied (this is a whole other debate). But if Ms. Edwards is setting conditions on interviews maybe she demanded EH was not there? EH was so pissed off she took the whole day off missing the live show and the taped show? I guess we’ll see in the coming days /weeks.

  117. Mary Evans Says:

OK, I may be overreacting here but I am very disturbed about their discussions about the Bufflalo crash. Probably because my niece is a commercial pilot and not much older than FO Shaw. About the same age as Shaw when she started.

FO Shaw was NOT landing the plane. But she did express concern about not being trained on that flight and certainly should have been - no doubt. Absolutely. But why is The View concentrating on just her? BTW, she commuted from Seattle, not Oregon Whoopi. I totally get there are different issues that need to be investigated (training, pay, commuting, enforcement of FAA rules by carriers ie) but imo they seem to be concentrating on just FO Shaw. Please don’t misunderstand (probably not explaining this well) but imo this accident was definitely preventable and there is a lot of blame to be rightfully placed - on the airlines, pilots, model aircraft etc.

  118. Dee Says:

There won’t be honest numbers of the PIA’s book because she is part of the right wing cult that will buy up her book in large numbers to give a false ranking. This is what happens with all of the hate mongers books…they then go to Amazon and rave about the book to inflate the rating. If it was Joy’s book they would tube it on Amazon.

The Dr. Oz statement is disturbing, I would like to hear what he would say off-the-record about her weight loss methods.

  119. Pepperbird Says:

#114 marthe LOL, especially about EH’s restraint in one-upmanship with Brooke.

Did Disney really forbid the dangling earrings? Were they sexual symbols to him or something? If so, that says a lot about Walt’s dirty mind.

How could he allow production of a movie about a girl who lived with 7 men who sang “HIGH ho” deliriously?

  120. Mary Evans Says:

Regarding EH’s abscence on Monday. She also missed her appearance on The Today Show that day. IMO Hanks is not the type of person to request EH not be there.

I guess I just prefer to think of her at her attorney’s office. :D

  121. marthe Says:

Yes, dangly jewelry and facial hair were forbidden. And the young foreigners at epcot were paid minimum wage or thereabouts.

How about The Parent Trap? Only somebody as stupid as sherri would agree to split up a pair of baby twins.

  122. Pepperbird Says:

#20 Very interesting, Mary Evans…seems like missing 2 live appearances would have gotten Bits into lots of trouble since she inconvenienced both shows and they both had to scramble to make a new plan to fill her time slots.

  123. Pepperbird Says:

    #120

  124. ds Says:

Mary, I don’t think Tom Hanks is that type of person, either. But I do think that there are stars who, while they may not specifically ask that she not be there, just do not go on the show anymore. If there is another explanation as to why the View used to be star-studded and isn’t now, then I am open to hearing it.

Sunny, good point. But, pissed off or not, would EH, as an employee, have the right to not show up for work out of anger, or even disagreement about something? Great work about the book, Sunny.

  125. Carmella Says:

The Boston flight is horrifying to me also. That it fell from the sky AND it becomes fodder for those View babblers is so disturbing. This collection of women and what comes out of their mouths leaves me speechless most days.

This show is not at all what BW envisioned and successfully put together 11 years ago…EH has brought a mean spirit to the idea of sharing differing opinions. Opinions can be wrong and she is too often a perfect example of that.

I think EE making a request is so probable - I suspect many of you can recall or come up with ignorant spew from EH about EE and JE…MAN did she look uncomfortable when she was welcomed back…

    Ordering Sue’s book this afternoon.

Joey - absolutely get to an acupunturist - what side of the ‘mtns’ are you on?
Again, you posters should be on the View payroll - but then there would be a show of substance.

  126. Mary Evans Says:

ITA with you that The View is NOT getting the stars to come on. Hence all the ABC “celebrities” coming on because they have to and also TV is spending a lot of time on Hot Topics, I think because they cannot get guests to come on. And this is sweeps (I think) and the daytime emmys are coming up.

Regis, GMA, Today and Martha have the top celebrities on yet TV doesn’t. Jennifer Garner would be a recent example but there are so many others.

I think most of it because of EH but also because they run the risk of being bashed or asked inappropriate questions. Plus they can never answer a question fully.

  127. Mary Evans Says:

In response to ds #124. Also, even when they were in LA they couldn’t get stars!

  128. ds Says:

I know! That whole LA thing was so lame.

  129. marthe Says:

I was captivated by Neal’s blue eyes.

I watched the abcnews clip of the view. bits is so inspiring. Why I’m inspired to put out a line of shooting range target sheets with her face on them. Now what I threw out there was just an idea, so anybody can run with it.

If babs really really liked her, she would give bits the name of her colorist. her hair coloring is flawless.

  130. Joey Says:

Marthe…I can’t be made to laugh that hard! It hurts…and I know you’re just kidding…

  131. Dee Says:

Is it true that The SpewView did not get nominated for the Daytime Emmy this year? TIME may think they are noteworthy, but their peers certainly don’t if this is true!

  132. ds Says:

Dee, I just read that The View did not get nominated for best daytime talk show. The five co-hosts, however, did collectively get nominated for best daytime talk show host. Although I do not understand why.

    A. Torture is not American. (From WG and JB)
    B. If we hadn’t tortured Khalid Sheik Muhammed, there would’ve been a hole in Los Angeles! (EH)
    C. Obama will not be carrying out his liberal agenda afterall! (EH)

Okay. Well, whether or not torture is American is beside the point, ladies. IT IS ILLEGAL. ILLEGAL! As in: punishable. By law. Second, how the f#@% does Bitsy know that LA was going to be blown-up? Did Simon Cowell announce this during Idol? And what is Obama’s secret liberal agenda? To replace all of the day players on Sesame Street with terrorists?

They are so collectively stupid and ill-informed it is embarrassing. And yes, I’m embarrassed that I tune in…do I get points for flipping the channel quickly?

Kim7676 writes: I agree with the other two, but this one I can give a pass b/c alot of people keep bringing up torture and how it helps and I think Joy and Whoopi, were just saying thats not how Americans do things, were suppose to be better than that. It may be illegal but that didn’t stop people from doing it.

Emmasaddress writes: kim7676, I really admire your even handedness! You must have excellent blood pressure.

These are not five women standing around the office cooler while they take a break from their jobs. These are five highly paid women who should know whether torture is legal. Technically, they should be informed. And they’re not. So giving them a pass, IMO, is tantamount to saying ignorance is okay. They are in the information/news space, much as I hate to admit it, and it’s a total embarrassment to women–and Americans–that these high profile women can’t be bothered to know their ass from their elbow.

Torture is NOT an issue of ‘we should be better than that’; it’s an issue of law, of history and the future of this country. And to continue to perpetuate mis-information under the guise of “a lot of people feel this way” only contributes to our ignorance as a whole. Vast difference between what people FEEL and what IS THE TRUTH.

  134. Kelly Says:

TWoP has some excellent posters. hehe

    ——————————————–

This is an excerpt from Huff po “The Real Motive Behind the Cheney Family Torture Tour”

    by Bob Cesce

Sadly, the complexities and parameters of torture appear to be open for debate these days. But using torture as a means to falsify evidence for war is a far more damning and despicable can of worms. So it stands to reason that Cheney would roll out whatever ammunition he has in order to obfuscate and sidetrack the issue. Including the use of his daughter as a spokesperson. This way, we’re all wrapped up in debating whether waterboarding is actually torture, or whether the Bushies kept us safe (they didn’t), or, in the case of the cable news talkers, whether or not the Cheney family “closed the deal” with their various TV performances. It’s all horseshit to prevent us from seriously examining the Bush administration’s motives for deliberately breaking the law and selling-out our American values. And the evidence is pointing to a motive for war.

———————————————-The article is much longer so check it out….also I’m enjoying (beyond the fluff) the Vanity Fair site…Hannity should understand that a real journalist did actually submit himself to water boarding before he came to the conclusion that it was, indeed, torture

  136. Mary Evans Says:

The View did not get nominated for the Most Outstanding Talk Show - first time since 1998! The shows nominated are Regis and Kelly, Rachel Ray and Ellen. Reminds me of the conversation earlier about TV having a lack of stars on.

On the bright side although they were nominated for Oustanding Talk Show Host they have never won.

  137. Pepperbird Says:

#136 Mary Evans. I wonder if BaWa and Bill G knew that the View was not going to be nominated for the Outstanding Talk Show award for the first time since 1998, and therefore BaWa got Time magazine to add them to the lame “most influential” list ahead of time to take out the sting of being snubbed?

Then to provide further spin and distraction, BaWa got Larry King to interview each of them on his show and emphasize the Time award.

Furthermore, to stress their B-List status, Elizabeth Edwards is going on the View at least a week or more AFTER ahe told all on Oprah and LKL. Ha Ha Ha.

  141. Mary Evans Says:

    #137 Pepper - could be!

Hallie, I was disappointed too, I thought she would impact the daytime emmys like Ellen did a few years ago. I really love her show. The thought has occurred to me that not one of the 3 commediens on TV could ever touch Bonnie as a host, especially if they had their own show.

  142. Pepperbird Says:

#139 DiannaC The View did get nominated for one award–”OUTSTANDING TALK SHOW HOST”????

I had hoped the snub was complete.

  143. Joey Says:

I love Bonnie Hunt…she doesn’t try to be what she isn’t, and because of that she allows her viewers to relax and enjoy.

  144. Pepperbird Says:

The View does not belong on this award list. Their lame obscene jokes took away any semblance of gravitas for outstanding hosts for me.

I really enjoy her show. Maybe if they’d get with the times and put the whole episodes online, more people would tune in and her audience would grow as word spread.

I like Neal McDonough. I’ve never watched Desperate Housewives, but saw him in Band of Brothers and his performance was top notch (as was that movie)

  150. Mary Evans Says:

#41 I meant to finish up the post by saying I bet Bonnie will be nominated next year!

  151. Diane from N.J. Says:

    HOT OFF THE PRESS:

Miss California and Miss USA runner-up, Carrie Prejean will be a one-day guest host for Fox News Channel’s popular morning show Fox & Friends, Whispers learns.

She will host the 6 a.m.-to-7 a.m. slot on May 27, filling in for Gretchen Carlson—the 1989 Miss America—who will be off that day.

The decision to make her a one-day cohost was finalized yesterday—the same day Prejean and Miss USA owner Donald Trump appeared on Fox & Friends.

Suzanne Scott, Fox vice president for programming, filled me in on the details of the gig for Prejean, who was thrust into the headlines when she rejected gay marriage during the Q&A part of the pageant. “We’re just using her one time,” she said, “to sit with the boys and have some fun.” The boys are cohosts Steve Doocy and Brian Kilmeade. “She has become a national celebrity in the last few weeks, and it’s a fun thing to do,” said Scott. “It’s a good way to try get a little buzz and fun for the show. We’ll see what happens with it,” she added.

Sit with the boys and have some fun….hmmmm.

I wonder if they will ask her to wear her little vest.

    Fox has such class.

    Just lovely.

  152. Joey Says:

I swear if “The View” wins, I will need to be heavily sedated and removed from society for a period of time…

Breathing…breathing…repeating my mantra and clinging to my copy of the Tao…

As much as I enjoy Bonnie, Ellen is also ‘majorly swell’, funny and kind. I can’t see anyone beating her…like Rosie, she is a philanthropist, and stays in touch with the real world…if the hosts of the View win, it will just to give credit to BW.

So I need the Valium just in case…

A conservative guy said once that the more pressing/immediate/ticking bomb the senerio he is presented with the more concerned he is about saying yes to torture/inhanced interigation. I am with Joy it will all come out in the end.

I love Adam. Kris is good too but want Adam to win. It is not an endorsement to say Bono said he has no problem with Adam singing his song. Unless he said I will only let the song be sung on the show because it is Adam.
but yeah it is looking like adam.

Books > Television > Most Annoying People > Unpublished”

    FOTFLMAO!!

But………..if you did write a book, it would be a best seller, we would all buy for sure & what an awesome topic “Most Annoying People” Wonder who you mean lol

Joey, please, if you can, try actuputure, I did for my knees & it worked wonders ((((Joey))))

  155. NanC Says:

Joey, my post #154, I meant acupuncture!!

  156. DiannaC Says:

#152 Joey, are you taking Valium for your back pain?

Also ask an Acupuncturist about “Cupping”.

This is a method of stimulating acupuncture points by applying suction through a metal, wood or glass jar, in which a partial vacuum has been created.

This technique produces blood congestion at the site, and therefore stimulates it.

Cupping is used for low backache, sprains, soft tissue injuries, and helping relieve fluid from the lungs in chronic bronchitis.

Update: my View dolls now look like cacti pincushions.

Am trying to go to my Happy Place now before my head explodes.

  158. Pepperbird Says:

Repeating “Bonnie Hunt…outstanding host” seems to help.

  159. ShannonP Says:

I like the Ellen show too…except when she calls people and they scream and scream and scream. That to me is the equivalent of Whoopi’s valley girl voice and I can’t hack it.

  160. Stacee Says:

Pepperbird Says: “Update: my View dolls now look like cacti pincushions. ”

    MY RESPONSE: LOL!!!!

A good move that I saw Bonnie Hunt in was “Return To Me” (Minnie Driver/David Duchovney). I think she was also the executive producer. Bonnie was hilarious in it. Good role, good actress, great romantic movie.

  161. Stacee Says:

    A good movie….

  162. Joey Says:

Just watching (recorded) Anderson Cooper and Ellen, today on the Ellen show. They both had the courage to address the loss of the gay children who were so tormented by others that they took their own lives.

ShannonP: day 5 of being a vegetarian: tonight is lentil, walnut burgers…YouTube..
so delicious…challenge all of you to watch the video and try it….major yum…don’t limit the spices…I added some worcestershire sauce as well.

Awesome Joey! Those sound good too. I love finding new recipes. (You might want to check that sauce, worcestershire sauce isn’t typically vegetarian.)

    Good news and Bad news:

Good news… I am enjoying the extra time you have to spend with us.

  165. Pepperbird Says:

#159 ShannonP: I used to watch the Ellen show for awhile, but stopped when she started having all the silly games. I would prefer more time devoted to interesting conversations with guests.

    #160 Stacee Thanks!

  166. Mary Evans Says:

Pepper - I really like Ellen but have never consistently watched. I got tired of the standup and dancing real fast, and the games are too much. She does get the guests though and I love her philanthrophy (sp).

  167. marthe Says:

Yup, that worcestershire sauce has anchovies.

Lol, the view got beat out by tyra? I had her on in the background today and she had a long segment with Jimmy Fallon called Lick This for $10. One of the objects was a plunger from a men’s restroom.

The way rachel ray licks her lips all the time annoys me. And I get this vibe from her that she is waiting around the corner with her pals to beat me up.

MY RESPONSE: That is stupid TV! I believe that Ellen, Regis and Kelly, Bonnie Hunt, Rachel Ray want their guests to feel good about themselves — light banter, amusing remarks. Some interesting topics, but not too heavy.

The View guests always seem somewhat uncomfortable/uneasy — they know that they are going to be interrupted, not have the opportunity to completely answer a question, etc. blah, blah, blah.

But they are usually there to promote their movie, book, music, etc.

I have never watched Tara and stopped watching Dr. Phil years ago.

  170. Fran Says:

Okay, first of all, I admit, I haven’t read ALL 169 posts yet, (though I have read many, many of them…).

But unless it was posted in the last 30 or so, it seems no one has picked up on my favorite moment today.

When Babs was being a little coy about whether or not she has “done” Jon Peters, Bitsy actually quipped, “we’ve read the book”. Babs gave her the DIRTIEST look! If looks could kill….

  171. Mary Evans Says:

Well, that was just EH brown-nosing, It was BW’s FIRST interview. She would never give edit rights to anyone again. Decades ago. But then, BW had to close that no one on the show has slept with him.

Rather than give best wishes to Lisa Ling and her family, as well as LL’s associate reporter.

  172. Pepperbird Says:

#170 and 171: Well Mary Evans I’m not so sure that EH was only brown-nosing, although admittedly EH usually isn’t bright with the quips. I also saw the shocked look that BaWa gave her. Maybe EH was brown-nosing and BaWa gave her more mental credit than EH deserved! (So you are both right)

  173. marthe Says:

Why yes it is snark season.

I just watched the clip about the Jon Peters book. babs says it was her first interview, everybody said she couldn’t get a celebrity interview. Okay, fine. Then she says this first interview changed how she did all other interviews. Roll clip. Jon is sitting on a bench or something. a youngish babs is sitting on the ground. My first thought was “blow jobs?”
