The View May 6th Recap: Jo Frost the Supernanny
Whoopi Goldberg was mad this morning because her assistant lied that he was “around the corner” and he arrived late to pick her up. When she got in the car she yelled at him for lying and being late and then the driver hit a taxi cab. He was driving a “putt putt” old car. She would have been happier if he was late and it was a nice car. The cab driver asked for $30 to call it even.
Unfortunately I don’t know what they talked about next because my cable company chose that time for a test of the Emergency Alert System.
The next topic was how Elisabeth Hasselbeck doesn’t get any sleep. She said that it is amazing that a child can reduce her to tears everyday. Grace is in a phase where she only wants to be with her daddy. Joy Behar said Taylor cuddled on her breast yesterday and she was tempted to breastfeed him, but she didn’t have the milk.
The rest of the show as dedicated to Supernanny Jo Frost. She has a new book Jo Frost’s Confident Baby Care. She said that there has never been a family that she couldn’t help. The key is to identify the problem objectively and push the family in the right direction.
She said that children do go through phases lasting 1-3 weeks. You need to implement techniques to get through the phase and come out the other side. She said that the success rate of families after she leaves them is very high.
On tomorrow’s show, the father in the family is deployed in Iraq and the mom is obsessed with when the next phone call will come. Jo had to bring the mom to the present make her realize that her children need them.
She said the first step is identifying the problem and where it comes it from. Joy asked what to do if the child says “I hate you.” Jo said they want a reaction, so don’t give them one.
Jo said that parents should have computers in a communal space so that they can monitor what their kids are doing. She said that they should limit their children and teens’ television viewing. Whoopi said that if you don’t want to text all the time, you shouldn’t do it at the table or they will emulate you. Joy said that if you text, they’ll text, if you scream, they’ll scream, and if you hit, they’ll hit. Whoopi and Sherri both said, “No, that’s not true.” Joy said that the emulating only covers texting? Then they went to commercial.
Three moms of babies under a year were on the show to get help from Jo. Two of babies were holding hands during the segment, which was the cutest thing. Whoopi suggested to the mom whose daughter won’t sit still during changing that she should leave her in her dirty diaper. Jo said that is a bad idea because it can lead to nappy rash.
A family, the Banjany family, who was on Supernanny in the past was also on the show. The kids were out of control at the time that Jo came to visit help them. The children were trying to get attention from their parents who were too focused on their business. During this interview, I had another emergency broadcast test on my channel.
In the next segment, Jo took questions from the audience. After three audience questions, Elisabeth Hasselbeck went out in the audience to ask a question herself. She said that Grace blames Elisabeth for things, like her shoes not being in the right place or not putting a bow in her hair. Grace also laughs in timeout. Jo told her that Grace is old enough to do things on her own, like putting her own shoes away and that teaches life skills. Jo said to follow through with timeout and not to let Grace know that her enjoyment of timeout is making Elisabeth angry. Elisabeth said that she has met her match with a three year old and that work is easy in comparison.
Sherri said that Jeffrey sleeps with her every night because she likes to have him there to cuddle. Jo told Sherri that she needs to create healthy sleeping patterns with Jeffrey and should only allow him in bed on a weekend morning to cuddle or when they are sick.

Boring show for me…no young kids to fret with. EH will do about anything for face time..even get out in the audience to get a close up while she ponders and tries to joke that her fellow hosts are easier to contend with than her female child. No one laughed as usual at her lame attempt at humor.

I didn’t watch the show, but enjoyed reading the recap. Thanks Winnie.
I think I would have enjoyed the show, even though my children are much older. I like Jo Frost. Although there have been a few things I disagree with her on, But just a “few”.

Boring, Boring, Boring…. Sheri has serious issues with Jeffrey. She acts like she’s trying to make him her boyfriend.
I am so sick of hearing about breasts.

Only saw a bit of the Jo Frost segment. Was LMBO at the “before” and “after” kids from hell. They looked like they had been medicated when they were sitting there on the View couch! Tho probably they were freaked out at the studio audience.

Yes the show was DEAD today! Didn’t really enjoy it at all! But I have to say this…As far as Sherri having “serious issues” with Jeffrey and her wanting him to be her boyfriend theory, well, I don’t see it that way at all. I think Sherri is just a loving person in general and with all of the medical problems that child has been through in his little lifetime, there’s no doubt in my mind she lavishes that little boy with a whole lot of love and affection as much as possible. The only person I think has “serious issues” with her kid is EH. Ummm, if I remember correctly, didn’t she say something about her kids dominating her? OH PULEASE!!!!

I was kind of disappointed that the cohosts did not talk about hitting your kids with Jo. I am guessing Sherri and Whoopi didn’t want Jo telling them that hitting your kids is wrong.
For some strange reason [sarcasm], I didn’t feel so bad for Whoopi that she was so egregiously [sarcasm] inconvenienced by her chauffeur.

Well I didn’t see the show, but just going by the recap; and other things I’ve heard the host say;
I think both Sherri and Elisabeth are just going through normal experiences and phases with their children.
I am positive that they are both trying to be the best parents that they can be.

#5 .. “Ummm, if I remember correctly, didn’t she say something about her kids dominating her?”
Yep. She sure did. I don’t recall the word “domanating” but whatever word it was, it meant the same thing. Like she thought the kids had taken over her life. I remember it because I was surprised at her candor and wondererd if it was a slip she regretted saying on air. I thought at the time, “Hmmm … wonder what’s the real story in that household?”
