The View November 26th Recap: Teri Hatcher and Dancing with the Stars winners
Today on The View, there was no Whoopi Goldberg because she has the day off. When the audience said, “Aww,” Joy Behar said she will be back Monday. Then she said, no, tomorrow, which Barbara echoed. Of course tomorrow is Thanksgiving. Which is a re-run. And we all know that Friday’s are pre-taped. So I have no idea who they are trying to fool.
The first topic was, of course, Barbara Walters’ interview with Barack Obama and Michelle Obama. She said that they invited them all to the White House. Barbara said that she thinks Obama wishes he could start on things now, rather than having to wait until January. She did not ask him about the sign reportedly at the White House that says “Please, don’t walk on the water.” She said it would be awkward to ask him about people calling him the Messiah.
Barbara said that the Obamas were cute together and at one point Barack wiped something off of Michelle’s face. Barbara left that part in the interview. She asked him if he was worried about his safety given that he is the first Black president. He said that he trusts the secret service and cannot really worry about that.
As I feared, Barbara did bring up her dog Cha-Cha in her interview. They showed a clip of it. Barack asked her if it was a “little yappy dog,” saying it sounded like a “girly dog.” He said he wanted a big rambunctious dog. Barack said that they are getting more advice about the dog than about his economic policy.
Joy wished her daughter a happy birthday. She was born on Thanksgiving day.
Elisabeth is making pretzel Jell-O for Tim.
Sherri her son, her stepson, and her husband will go to her sister in law’s house for Thanksgiving. She said that they are still not technically divorced and get along well. Joy said that if they still get along, why not stay married? Elisabeth asked her why she does not get married. Barbara asked Sherri when dinner is over if she wants the night to be over. Sherri said that he will be on the pull-out couch and she will be on the blow-up mattress. Elisabeth said that the holidays can bring out the romance. Sherri said that she thought they were just going to eat turkey and sweet potatoes.
The White House sent out invitations to a Hanukkah celebration, but it included a Christmas tree. Joy said that it was typical of the Bush administration to have one laugh gaffe. Elisabeth said that the Christmas tree is a pagan symbol and not a Christian one. Barbara said to Joy that she does not always have to dig the Bushes and Elisabeth does not have to always defend them. Joy said that they do because that is their view. Elisabeth said it comes naturally.
That is all the time I had for the recap for today. The scheduled guests are Teri Hatcher (why does it seem like the Desperate Housewives women are on way too often?) and Dancing with the Stars winners Derek Hough and Brooke Burke. Also, third-place finishers Lance Bass and Lacey Schwimmer are scheduled to appear. I will try to post videos later of their apperance if I can.
Happy Thanksgiving!

ROFLMAO that BW really did ask about chacha. Good guess Winnie
lol at Joy she is a silly rabbit.
Eh would not go to an Obama white house even if she was asked she would say I have another thing to do or the kids have something but she would not go I’m sure of that today.
FYI to Eh Christmas tree = Christmas= Christian/ pagan history or not.
(though the card would not have bugged me personally I see the issue)
Happy Thanksgiving to all.

Winnie’s recap: “Elisabeth said that the Christmas tree is a pagan symbol and not a Christian one.”
WRONG EH…as usual.
Religious Tolerance:
Modern-day opposition continues: some condemn the Christmas tree because they believe it to be a Christian symbol; others condemn it because they believe — incorrectly — that the custom of cutting down a tree, erecting it in the home and decorating it is a Pagan custom.
http://www.religioustolerance.org/xmas_tree.htm
Wiki:
There has historically been opposition to the custom of the Christmas tree because of its alleged pagan origins. Thus, Oliver Cromwell preached against “the heathen traditions” of Christmas carols and decorated trees.
Condemnation of the Christmas tree as pagan has been based on a passage in Jeremiah,
“Thus saith the LORD, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them. For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe. They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not.” (Jeremiah 10:2-4, KJV).
The custom of erecting a Christmas tree can be traced to 16th century Germany, though neither an inventor nor a single town can be identified as the sole origin for the tradition, which was a popular merging of older traditions mentioned above; in the Cathedral of Strasbourg in 1539, the church record mentions the erection of a Christmas tree.

Happy Thanksgiving mibi - everyone!

I absolutely loved PE Obama’s response to Cha Cha Cha- yappy little dog! LMAO So funny, he had no idea how precious that dog is to BW!
Nice to see his sense of humor. I think I may watch the special now. I know my hubby will get a kick out of the dog thing!
On the subject of his blackberry and trying to work out a deal/plan for it. Seems dangerous to me-it can be tracked for location. I think it is very important for him to have as much contact as possible with the outside world (which I appriciated him saying), but wish they could somehow create something for him that would be untraceable/secure. We should have that sort of technology for our elected officals.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone, hope you all have a wonderful day tomorrow.

Correct, Kelly!! The song “Oh, Christmas Tree, Oh, Christmas Tree” (how evergreen your branches) was originally from Germany and was “Oh Tannenbaum, Oh Tannenbaum”! Great research!!
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!

Was “yappy little dog” code for the bits? I loved that talk soup clip yesterday.
I vote for a Dobie.
I liked the part where Michelle said the girls are still going to have to make their beds, but she is fine with staff making the parents’ bed.
I’m a Blackberry virgin, but there is that old-fangled technology the telephone.

Liked it when Joy took on BW, saying “This is The View!” etc. Joy can talk back to BW more than the rest, I think, as she has been with the show since Jump St….Happy Thanksgiving all….

BYW, I will watch Rosie, not Larry King with Joy, and BW’s O interview
November 26th, 2008 at 12:23 pm
I haven’t watched in weeks, but decided to watch today. Gosh, can EH be any more childish. She puts on a frown anytime someone says something complimentary about the Obamas. Complete with crossed arms. Geez.
November 26th, 2008 at 12:36 pm
I think that EH is scared to go to the white house. She might have to open up her closed mind and she might really like the Obama’s
Even EH has a hard time finding fault with them.

Happy Thanksgiving from your Canadian Neighbour!
I thought EH would be sour grapes about her GOP not winning but when is this arguing about EVERYthing Obama or Dem. going to subside a bit?
Sheobviously “lied” when she said she would “support” this new admin.
She had her chance to input what kind of public service she would do if she could and she didn’t have a clue.
Now that SS has taken over the announcements EH has very little , if anything interesting to add to the show.
I never used to like it when bloggers said how dumb EH was but.. sorry.. I am agreeing now. An intelligent person wants to learn about NEW things and concepts..
Is she just doing this “job” because it pays for her new 3.5 Million house??
How long can BW drag this show along ??
November 26th, 2008 at 1:15 pm
I think Cha Cha looks like a rat. Not a pretty dog.
November 26th, 2008 at 1:16 pm
First of all, when EH said she would want to do something regarding children’s health and education yesterday, someone should have told her she’s in the wrong party because the GOP does not care about people whether its children or not having healthcare, and they sure as heck don’t care about education. She wouldn’t make it on a progressive show like Rachel Maddow, because Rachel would eat her alive. I’m so glad intelligence won this time, Yes!. Say no to dumbness!

The Obamas have proven they truly are a class act. Elisabeth must have been born under a lucky star because a lot of people in the Obama’s position would have issued some sort of payback for her disrespectful remarks about Michelle. Maybe one day Elisabeth will realize how blessed she is to have the opportunites she has.
Sherri continues to refer to her soon to be ex as her husband because they are still legally married. So the day the divorce is final she will no longer think of him as her husband? Also, when she goes out to clubs does she tell perspective dates she’s married? Just curious.
Terri Hatcher seems like such a great mom. Loved her Clue costumes for Halloween. What a great idea.

Sorry, Cha Cha is cute. I was thinking of those hairless chijuajuas.

FROM THE RECAP: “The first topic was, of course, Barbara Walters’ interview with Barack Obama and Michelle Obama. She said that they invited them all to the White House.”
MY RESPONSE: As opposed to Pres. Bush, who ONLY invited Bitsy to the dinner at the WH.
I bet Bits was shocked that the Obamas would extend an invite to include her. She’s so used to the divide of Democrats and Republicans, particularly since for the past 8 years, “her man” Bush was a main instrument in stoking an air of divisiveness. Her hero Hanninty the insanity manatee does the same. What a change.

Thanks for the recap Winnie.
I didn’t see the show.
Don’t have any comment really.
I mainly came to wish all that celebrate
A VERY happy, and safe Thanksgiving.
November 26th, 2008 at 2:15 pm
Is it just me, but I don’t have the same pull I once did to the show. I thought once the election craziness died off I would enjoy the show again but it seems to be dieing off or to use the term ‘jumped the shark”.
I have no desire to watch it any longer.
November 26th, 2008 at 2:27 pm
Is EH going to pout through the whole Obama administration? Talk about a sore loser.
She disses Michelle O and still gets invited to the White House. She should take her cue from John McCain and support the new administration. Why not just for once say what is good about the Obamas? This is not good sportspersonship.
November 26th, 2008 at 3:09 pm
Thanks for the recap Winnie. Brooke Burke is the hotness!I’m glad Hough won. He’s a great dancer. SOunds like a good show with Teri H. on as well.
TLB, I just can’t watch her narrowminded snark. She’s pathetic. I don’t care how much you dress up garbage with fancy clothes, makeup, and bleached hair. Well it’s still trash.
November 26th, 2008 at 3:45 pm
Hi Everyone !
I am dropping in to wish all who celebrate a Happy Thanksgiving. Gluttony is not a sin on Thanksgiving, IMO, so enjoy a wonderful feast.
