The View November 5th Recap: Post-Election Day of Hot Topics
I will be watching The View and doing the recap, but I thought I would publish the post early, in case you all want to comment here on the show as it is happening. Keep refreshing this page to see my recap throughout the episode.
All five co-hosts were present for this post-election day show. I loved the big smile that Whoopi Goldberg had on her face at the start of the show as she said that Barack Obama won the election. She said that she asked her mom last night if she thought she would live to see this day and her mom said she never thought the day would come in her lifetime. Whoopi said that this is a moment where you realize that you have become the fabric of America and people want greatness for the country, which “knocked” her out.
Elisabeth Hasselbeck said she watched Obama’s speech with her daughter Grace this morning and told her that Obama had won the election and he will be the next president. Grace asked her “Who lost?” and she told her that no one lost. Elisabeth added that “Today is a victory for this country,” because America elected the first Black president and so many people let their voices be heard with the high voter turnout. Joy joked, “So are you saying that I have been right all along?” Barbara said, “Nothing like a sore winner.” Elisabeth said that she will now get in the long line of supporters of our next president because as Americans that what we should do.
Sherri Shepherd started to cry when she talked about how as a person of color there have always been limitations on her. She said that a family member said she could never be an actress or comedian because they don’t let Black people do that. She said that to look at Jeffrey and tell him he has no limitations on him is a great thing. Barbara asked her why she was undecided, then? Sherri said that Palin spoke to her as a mom of a special needs child, but Barack Obama spoke to her more. (For some reason Whoopi kept telling her not to cry. I say cry all you want!)
Joy Behar was at a restaurant last night and every time a state went for Obama everyone would cheer. She said that it was a triumph over negative campaigning and she is happy America did not fall for the association baloney.
Then they played part of Obama’s speech from last night.
After the commercial break, they then showed John McCain’s concession speech. Whoopi called McCain’s speech extraordinary and Joy said it was his greatest moment in the campaign and it showed the McCain we have liked. Elisabeth said that it is when you see the candidates in their pure moments that you see the hope they give us.
Barbara said that white people can’t know what Black people are feeling today and she did not cry last night. However, this morning she heard part of Martin Luther King’s “I Have Dream Speech” and she started to cry. They played part of the speech. Whoopi said that people’s vote last night went beyond gender and race. She said that the youth of America stepped up and swept the country. Elisabeth said that the amount of young voters and new voters shows that Obama has “such a gift” and an ability to really move the country. Whoopi said that they looked at the candidate a saw a man and not a Black man.
Barbara said that the celebrations around the world reminded her of the millennium celebrations. She said it means a new arena for America and a new relationship with America. Sherri said it was great to see the youth to stand for something and not being lackadaisical. Barbara said that there were voting machine problems throughout the country, despite all that we have accomplished like Google and You Tube. Sherri suggested that they have it like American Idol where you can just text your vote.
Al Franken appears to have lost his Senate race in Minnesota, but there will be a recount because they are separated by less than 600 votes. Joy said that she would rather lose by a lot, rather than a little.
California Prop 8 to ban gay marriage is still undecided, but is leaning toward the ban. Whoopi said that if she and Elisabeth had a civil union, it would not allow inheritance, the way that it would if they were married. She added that she and Elisabeth would have cute children. Barbara said that Arkansas passed a measure to prevent gay people from adopting children. Whoopi said that there are children that need homes and if there are people who want to adopt them, then they should be allowed to. Elisabeth said that there are plenty of heterosexuals who are bad parents. Joy gave a “shout-out” to Michigan who voted to allow medical use of marijuana. Nebraska voted to end affirmative action. Whoopi said that women are minorities and special needs are minorities and they need help. Washington voted to allow doctor assisted suicide.
Joy got an e-mail from someone saying that we should not call him “Barack” because it is disrespectful. Whoopi disagreed. Then they showed a picture of the new first family. Joy said that they had to be perfect in order to be elected. Whoopi said that she was excited that there was going to be “some action” in the White House and some “whoopie” going on between Barack and Michelle. Joy said that Betty and Gerald Ford were the last ones to have sex in the White House.
Whoopi said that Sarah Palin is going to do a lot of work and is still a viable candidate for the Republicans. Sherri said that she hopes that really tries to be an advocate for special needs children.
Barbara said that her co-hosts are like a microcosm and although they have fought, their respect remains. She thanked them all for that.
Vernon E. Jordan, former adviser to Bill Clinton and author of Make It Plain: Standing Up and Speaking Out, appeared on the show. He said that the election means to the country that there is change and a new party will take over the White House. Sherri said that the election is a miracle for Black people and asked why he believes that people voted for Obama. Jordan said it is not a miracle for just Black people, but for everybody. He said that Obama gives a sense of unity, even to those who did not vote for him.
Jordan did not think that he would see a Black president in his lifetime and he is 73. Joy said he looks great. Sherri said “Black don’t crack.”
Elisabeth pointed out that in his book he wrote that he encouraged Obama not to run for president. Jordan said that when he talked to Obama about running for president, he told him that he did not think this was his season. He said “Was I ever wrong.” When he told Barack that, Barack was attentive and listened. He also told Barack that if he did run, he support Hillary because his dad taught him you should “dance with the one who brung ya.” He did promise Barack that if he won the nomination, “I will be your man.” He was also wrong when he told Hillary Clinton not to run for Senate.
When Obama won, Jordan thought of his parents, Martin Luther King, Jr, Lyndon Johnson, and many others.

well, shut my mouth wide open.
elizabeth showed maturity with her statement. she surprised me and i gained a little bit more respect for her when she said that positive statement to her daughter grace. the power of obama’s presidency is starting to work.
brand new days ahead, hard work to do, and sacrifices to make.
i’m excited for all americans.
November 5th, 2008 at 10:22 am
I gotta give to EH for saying what she did. It was the first noble thing she has done in a long time. For once she is copying something good that John Mccain has done, because I think his speech last night was awesome as well.
I too sat with my baby girl last night and watched Obama’s win and his speech that followed, and I could help but just let the tears flow. This country needs hope more then any other time in it’s history and the fact that we now have a leader who has just as much hope for change and love for the people like Obama does makes me very proud to be an American right now. I hope he doesn’t disappoint, and I hope that he paves the way for a wonderful future for me and my children..
November 5th, 2008 at 10:27 am
I am appreciative that I don’t have to listen to EH’s rants today. I don’t know that it is maturity, maybe just showing that once again she will follow the crowd. Thankfully the crowd she is following this time is lead by President Barack Obama–a man of integrity, compassion and heart. What an amazing night last night and a beautiful day today!
November 5th, 2008 at 10:32 am
No EH, Americans are supposed to be critical of authority. You should not blindly support everything your leaders do. President O still needs your criticism, possibly more than ever. But hopefully they will be attacks on his policies and not his character. That’s been the problem I have with you. You make up idiotic bullcrap to validate the foolishness that is the Conservative side the last 8 years..
November 5th, 2008 at 10:32 am
TLB took things too far IMO. I have no respect for her whatsoever. What else was she supposed to say, without coming across like a total fool?
November 5th, 2008 at 10:35 am
Thanks rainlillie, for saying in a much nicer way, just what I was thinking.
November 5th, 2008 at 10:35 am
2 Sasha–
we now have a leader who has just as much hope for change and love for the people like Obama does makes me very proud to be an American right now. I hope he doesn’t disappoint,
Ill be honest….. if he doesnt implement the change that he has promised, I will speak to that loudly. Saying that, I expect President Obama to be a good president. I am holding out hope that he will instead be a great president.
I am proud of all of us… no matter which side u were on….. you also have a new president.
November 5th, 2008 at 10:39 am
i don’t mean to be cynical but i just don’t buy the stories that Elisabeth tells of her daughter. It just seems bizarre and far-fetched…
November 5th, 2008 at 10:40 am
#4 rainlillie–
What else was she supposed to say, without coming across like a total fool?
But isnt that the point rain? She didnt act the fool. We need to act toward those on the other side the way we would have wanted them to act if we had lost. The politics have ended, the work is about to start.
I understand how you are feeling rain…. but let me offer to you…. Be a good American, get beyond your disappointment in the other side and help them heal after their loss…. I know u can do it….. I have seen greatness in you.
November 5th, 2008 at 10:41 am
Congratulations to President Obama and may God bless him, his family and America. I am so excited and relieved that the best man indeed won this election. I pray for Obama and the VP, Joe Biden. They have quite a bit of work ahead of them.
November 5th, 2008 at 10:50 am
What kind of bugs me about EH today is… Why does it take Obama being elected President for her to show him this kind of respect? Does this mean that she suddenly feels this way simply because she has to? And because that is what a good little American should do?
If she really felt that he had an amazing gift then she would have said that a long time ago. I mean, it IS ok to say good things about the candidate you didn’t support if that is how you really feel. She acted like she was always scared to say something positive about our new president. But now that he won she has to join the winning side or something.
November 5th, 2008 at 10:55 am
Hope is a wonderful feeling to have. And last night’s results brought me hope.
I will give props to EH for behaving as a citizen…she said she will support the President Elect. I see nothing wrong in her doing that. She is not one of my favorite hosts, but today she behaved like a good citizen. If we do not all get behind our President Elect, if we do not all continue to prod our Congressmen and women, nothing can be accomplished.
Barack Obama needs our continuing support and enthusiasm to begin carrying out the needs of our country.
November 5th, 2008 at 10:55 am
Basically, I think she’s starting the “I need to save my job because I’ve been a complete ass” phase. I agree with Rainlillie — while EH’sactions were commendable today, one day doesn’t make up for her screeching unqualified rants. I mean, President Bush gave a nice speech about Obama… does that erase the fact that he’s driven our country into the ground? No. Does one nice soundbite from EH erase her hatred? No. I give her credit for the day. But I still think she’s gotta go. The people spoke and got Obama elected — we should do the same for a qualified person at the View.
November 5th, 2008 at 10:58 am
To The Gals @ The View…”Thank You”, for almost making this special day about the victory of a wonderful man instead of about black & white. You put it well - we looked at Obama as the “man” who offered hope, understanding of the middleclass plight and found him very capable of leading us with intelligence & a conscious. Hopefully, helping us turn this time of turmoil & devastation into a better, more productive time with Hope for a better future. It is a special day for all Americans - praying for a better future. Also hoping that we will see less wasteful spending from the people that “we the people” trusted & voted to be our voices in Washington. Shame on all of those that decided they deserved to take advantage of our trust and spend as much money on extravagance as possible. Everyone should have to tighten their belts!
November 5th, 2008 at 11:00 am
Roger,
I am a good American, which is why I voted for Obama and have spoken out against the corrupt Bush administration. I’m also keeping it real. Just yesterday she trashed Obama and today she praises him. It isn’t sincere and I’m calling her on it. You are more than welcome to embrace her phony message, but I’m not buying it. It’s one thing to support McCain, it’s another thing to go down the road she went down. To not call her out, would make me a phony…Just like her.
November 5th, 2008 at 11:02 am
Right on, Rainlillie.
November 5th, 2008 at 11:03 am
Sherri really moved me today. When she started crying talking about how Jeffrey was saying ‘Obama!’ at the polls, she was so vulnerable and honest. Why the hell was Whoopi telling her over and over ‘DON’T DO IT, DON’T DO IT’ That was really annoying me! What did she mean don’t do it? Don’t show your emotions? Don’t show how moved you are by history being made? I don’t understand why Whoopi kept saying that. There was nothing wrong with Sherri doing what she did. She never actually did say who she voted for but I guess it’s sake to assume she voted for Obama! LOL
Oh, and then as Sherri is sitting there with tears streaming down her face, Barbara asks her ‘then why were you undecided for so long?’ I agree, but that was an insensitive thing to ask her at that moment!
November 5th, 2008 at 11:04 am
I agree Rainlillie.
November 5th, 2008 at 11:05 am
If you spit on a person for 600 days and on the 601st day stop spitting on them, do the 600 days before cease to exist?
I think she was saving her butt, nothing more. You just can’t be as vile as she was this election and then overnight change.
November 5th, 2008 at 11:05 am
I am so proud of everyone today with their emails. It shows that the unity and the healing for those that needs it has begun. We are all Americans and when we come together, God is pleased and that is what I can see now taking place. It is such a great moment in history, one that will not be forgotten. May God Bless President Barack Obama and his family and VP Joe Biden and his family as well and keep them all safe in his arms.
November 5th, 2008 at 11:06 am
I’d like to add, the hate that TLB spewed was relentless and unforgivable. I feel the same way about Palin and McCain. They took things way too far. that’s why I would have had respect for Obama regardless of if he won or lost. He never took the low road. TLB, Palin and McCain have a lot of wounds to heal and a good speech doesn’t do it for me. It will take a lot more time.
November 5th, 2008 at 11:09 am
I am not giving ‘props’ to Elisabeth for being gracious today either. She had no choice! Even she knows it would be totally inapropriate for her to continue her hateful rants against Obama on today of all days!
She realizes this and did the right thing by acting gracious and polite. I don;t really believe her little Grace story either, I am sure that was a fib she told to come across as a tolerant and fair minded person. How could someone so intent on bashing Obama and even his wife, suddenly have such respect and compassion for the situation? Her ticket lost by a landslide, this was no close race like she snidely remarked on yesterdays show she ‘knew’ it was going to be.
Elisabeth threw in the towel and even though she had kind words today, she will be in attack mode before you know it. I can’t wait to see Sean Hannitys reaction tonight.
November 5th, 2008 at 11:13 am
I’m going to take a day off from judging EH, and just enjoy my relief that she was so different today.
If the tone of the show stays positive like it was today, I may be able to keep watching it.
Lovely, lovely, lovely.
November 5th, 2008 at 11:15 am
Maybe EH hadn’t spoken to Hannity yet.I wonder what negativity he’ll be spouting tonight that EH can take to the table tomorrow.
Hopefully she’s realized what a fool he’s made of her and that enough is enough and now it’s time to move forward.
#7 red- I agree with you 100%.
November 5th, 2008 at 11:17 am
Sherri made me cry when she was talking about Jeffrey growing up without limitations as to what he could achieve & about the people who died during the civil rights movement.
November 5th, 2008 at 11:17 am
Months and months of hate spewing from EH and McCain and Co. cannot be erased in one speech or one show. It will take time - put your money where your big mouth has been, EH, do shut up and give the new President a chance……she cannot rant and rage and lie and demean for months on end then be all happyhappy when her side doesn’t win. Yesterday she was as hateful as ever, bringing up Rev. Wright, etc. Those thoughts and feelings didn’t evaporate overnight. I think she still needs to go, she’s been a huge distraction on The View and she could be replaced by a woman with brains and the ability to argue in a civil manner. EH has shown for months that woman is not her…..
November 5th, 2008 at 11:18 am
I have stepped away from this blog for many days because in my heart the ugliness had gotten too personal.
Sherri Shephard I believe made the show today. She spoke from her heart and the love and dreams for her little boy would make the hardest persons heart melt. Sherri may not be the most informed but today she was the most human and showed her vulnerablitly. She wore it with grace. I have re-watched her sharing her emotions and hope that the media picks it up and shares it with the world. Truly touching!
I dont think that Whoopi was trying to muffle Sherri, I think that she was trying to assist her in maintaining enough composure to express her heartfelt feelings.
Elizabeth took the high road and I’m not sure that Joy would have done the same thing. I was disappointed in Joy, once again she wanted to ignite all the negativity of the past rather that celebrate the future. The other ladies were not grabbing her bait. She really showed her lack of class. It seemed to be all about winning instead of about hope.
I have to say that it was a great show today, primarily because it was about positivity and support.
November 5th, 2008 at 11:20 am
Your putting Elisabeth in a no win situation…. if she had complained, you would have complained, if she took the high road you are saying she is phony. The whole point of Obama’s speech last night is that we now need to come together. That does not mean you don’t call people out for wrong behavior, but it does mean you take the high road yourself.
November 5th, 2008 at 11:21 am
Today’s show was a great relief. They proved they can discuss issues without making my stomach in knots. Let’s hope this is the start of a new “view” as well as a new period in our history……..
November 5th, 2008 at 11:22 am
I did get to see the View today, and am so glad that i did.
I haven’t read the other comments yet, but will come back later and do so, as I am in a rush right now.
I just wanted to say that I loved The View today, and was glad to have seen it.
Everyone was positive and happy.
Sherri made me cry. I was proud of Elisabeth.
November 5th, 2008 at 11:26 am
Maybe I’m just cynical, but how I don’t for one minute believe Elisabeth means what she says…She screeched like a banshee for months against President-Elect Obama and now she thinks his victory is good for this country. I think she felt the winds change direction and she didn’t want to be blown into obscurity.
November 5th, 2008 at 11:29 am
what did you want her to do today?
November 5th, 2008 at 11:34 am
#19. Great point. If she would have started off with an apology to Obama and said she was wrong that’s one thing, but what she said was self- serving and apparently it worked with people who have short memories.
November 5th, 2008 at 11:35 am
I wanted her to apologize for her terrible actions. I wanted her to apologize for being a hateful monster. If she wants to start a new chapter, she should show us that she means it. This includes both a statement of positivity for the future (kudos to her for that) and an acknowledgement of her past wrongdoings. I personally want her gone — I want “change” on the View. SHe has been George Bush. It’s time for her to sing her last song.
November 5th, 2008 at 11:35 am
#30. I wanted her to apologize for trashing his character.
November 5th, 2008 at 11:37 am
#32. Thank you! I totally agree with every word you said.
November 5th, 2008 at 11:40 am
Grace asked her mother, EH, “Who lost?” EH should have replied, “I did, Gracie. Because I lost my integrity. I caboosed on a train of hateful negativity, and I hope you never ever sell your soul in this way.”
November 5th, 2008 at 11:45 am
I think a couple people are drinking the Elisabeth koolaid
November 5th, 2008 at 11:46 am
After hearing opening remarks this morning, I was shocked to hear that it was the first time for some to vote. It is easy to point blame and complain when you don’t even participate! Now that many have finally used their power to elect the next President, let’s see if they are willing to accept all the responsiblities that go with their choice! I disagree with Whoopie that it was not a race thing by comparison of the percentage of Afriacn Americans that voted for Obama vs. McCain and percentage of voters at the polls for this particular election. A resume and character should speak to the American people at every election and not just “the one that makes history.”
November 5th, 2008 at 11:46 am
#13 rainlillie–
Roger,
I am a good American, which is why I voted for Obama and have spoken out against the corrupt Bush administration. I’m also keeping it real
I know you are a good American, Im sorry if I gave that impression that doubted that. truly. I totally understand calling out EH for her hateful spewing.
My point is that was all politics, the politics have finished. We need to heal our hurt feelings of the things that were said, because in the end they didnt matter. we won Who knows….. maybe, just maybe, Obama inspired her enough to where she will stop getting her talking points from Hannity and we can finally hear HER view.
November 5th, 2008 at 11:49 am
Regardless of who won, I beleive that if apoligies are on the menu then thier is plenty to go around from more than just the ladies on the view. You cant change the past, but you can change the future.
I’m glad the election is done. Time to get onto other hot topics.
November 5th, 2008 at 11:52 am
The first step to healing is to admit you were wrong and apologize. I will give her all the respect in the world if she does those two things. I’m happy Obama won, in fact we’re having a dinner party tonight. Just think how hard she worked to keep that from happening. She mainly attacked his character not his positions.
November 5th, 2008 at 11:53 am
#35 Rachel Ann–
Grace asked her mother, EH, “Who lost?” EH should have replied, “I did, Gracie. Because I lost my integrity. I caboosed on a train of hateful negativity, and I hope you never ever sell your soul in this way.”
You are very correct. She sold herself, which is quite sad. rainlillie is also correct. She does need to do more to atone for her previous actions. I guess I dont really expect it from her…. she hasnt shown much self awareness previously, I dont really expect there to be now.
all Im really saying is lets not sink to her level, lets give her a chance to raise to our level…. if she cant, we will just drop the hammer on her
November 5th, 2008 at 11:57 am
i cried i was in shock i was excited. I think i did not see the show but i think sherri expressed it all. and wheter or not she ment it eh got it rigth when she said it a victory for us all.that is all i have heard all day from peole all over america and the world. yes the world. so i cant complain. it a particulary great day to be american in america.
November 5th, 2008 at 11:57 am
But if you truly want people to unite, and you truly want to see that, then you move forward. The bottom line is it doesn’t matter what Elisabeth thinks… and it obviously didn’t, so let Obama show us what he can do for the country. They showed unity today, which is what many have said they really wanted on the show.
November 5th, 2008 at 12:03 pm
Get out the Oscar award folks, I’ve never seen a better performance than what EH acted out today! She actually was showing us the original EH that used to be quiter and more caring of others when she came on the show for the first time. I actually cheered when she won the spot on “The View” at that time. I agree with Rain that she embellished her chat with Grace. I can’t see a child asking “Who lost”? Of course EH didn’t want to admit that McCain and her Palin pal lost so she said “Nobody lost”.
Hello!! Your McCain lost. Your Palin lost. Your old darling bush lost. And next I’d love to see you “Get lost”!
I’m thrilled for Obama and I’m thrilled for us Americans! We all won!
November 5th, 2008 at 12:04 pm
I personally think it is so completely naive to say hey Obama won, lets all unite and show class and forgive Elisabeth and move on. Do I then do the same with members of the KKK? Racists? Rapists? Murderers? I mean come on, they are a part of America too.
A moment of reality please. Elisabeth is a very troubled and unkind person. She didn’t just oppose Obama, she lied, she spread and encouraged hatred and anger about him day after day after day. And now that he won she wants to be a part of that? You can swallow that up if you want to. I still see her for what she is.
November 5th, 2008 at 12:08 pm
well then the bipartisanship can continue i guess. my point is though that if she had apologized, many of you would see that as fake. If she cried unfair, you would call her immature. If she said nothing, you would have commented on her smugness. But all the arguments you have made in the past appear weaker because today your bashed her just the same.
November 5th, 2008 at 12:08 pm
I simply fail to see what she brings to the show — in any respect. Why are we giving a “second chance” to woman who is unqualified for this job? I’d love for the View to have a fresh start with a strong, witty intelligent woman. These qualities I do not find in Frizzie. Also, the other three are funny as heck. Miss Hasselbeck is NOT funny. Away from politics, this is her biggest crime. To tell you the truth, I often think she’s just not smart enough to get the joke. This is a female gabfest - a sense of humor and the intelligence to at least understand those jokes should be a prerequisite. I can think of ten “conversative” women off the top of my head who top EH in education, intelligence, argumentative skills, looks and humor. She’s just not qualified to be up there.
November 5th, 2008 at 12:10 pm
Sorry to bring it up but I truly get confused with responses on this blog, what is Elisabeth to apologize for? For having a stronly held political view? For putting her point of view on the table? Or is she to apologize for the questions she had about his associations and his judgement? If it is the latter, those questions were not resolved overnight anymore than her “conversion” occurred overnight. The questions will have answers over time and behavior. Just as Elisabeth’s participation on the View will reveal her over time.
November 5th, 2008 at 12:10 pm
Watching the View this morning I realized a few things. First, Sherri is so much more than she has presented to the viewers. There is a intelligence and depth of feeling that she has hidden until now. I cried along with her. I hope this is just the beginning of the real Sherri.
And secondly, Elisabeth is a complete hypocrite. Nobody switches gears that fast. I would have found new respect for her if she had said I still don’t agree with BO but as an American I will support him. Instead she totally flips and expects us to forgot all the hateful rants she has done. Not so fast Lizzy!
November 5th, 2008 at 12:10 pm
ShannonP
Dont we have to be good winners? If we win but cant get past the politics then what did we win?
There was a lot of hate…. too many lies… they couldnt win on the issues so tried to win by smearing character and associations. This is all true. What needs to be said loud and clear is this…… the FEAR and SMEARS didnt work…. the bad campaign didnt work…. the American people saw thru what was going on and they chose Obama, even though the lies and the smears continued.

The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams. ~Eleanor Roosevelt
Oh Happy Day!!!!!
November 5th, 2008 at 12:15 pm
After seeing Hot Topics on Nov. 4th, I wasn’t sure if I could ever stomach watching/listening to Elisabeth speak ever again. I was amazed at her words and demeanor today. Was it all completely sincere? I honestly don’t know. But even if she isn’t *really* behind Obama 100%, I’ll just be glad not to hear her rants anymore!
November 5th, 2008 at 12:21 pm
How can TLB say with a straight face that this is a good thing. After telling us for months that Obama hangs out with a terrorist and has other questionable associates? Either she was lying then or she’s lying now. I’m with May, give her an Oscar.
November 5th, 2008 at 12:24 pm
Well, well, well, if Lizzie isn’t just a Jekyl and a Hyde. Must have taken a tranquilizer. Nice act there, Lizzie..we are
not fooled by you. It won’t be long and she
will again be on her high-horse about something. You can’t change the markings on
a tiger!!!
Going forward…we can only hope our America will change for the better.

I just wanna say one more thing. I loved when BW played the “I Have a Dream” speech. “…will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.”
Miss Hasselbeck has showed her extraodinarily ugly character. We have every right to judge her. You also have every right to ask us to give Bisty another chance, but you must understand why we see her ugly on the inside and out. She has been spewing hate for YEARS. (And, c’mon, as a joke, if we were judging her by the color of her skin — well, we would simply say that she could afford a better spray tan.)
November 5th, 2008 at 12:26 pm
has shown…oops
November 5th, 2008 at 12:27 pm
I really enjoyed today’s show. I think each panelist conveyed their reactions honestly and openly. It was very refreshing.
November 5th, 2008 at 12:27 pm
I could feel Joy’s exuberance today. I love how she could actually bring things up without EH jumping in and convoluting the issue. She acknowledged the American public for not falling for smear tactics like the Ayers association. TLB could say NOTHING! LOL!
November 5th, 2008 at 12:28 pm
I really enjoyed most of today’s show. I do think that there is going to be change in this country, just like EH is trying to convince us she has done. EH has shown the ablility to change for what ever she deems neccessary. If supporting Obama will keep her 15 mins of fame she will support Obama.
I do hope that from now on they refer to him as our next President elect Barack Obama instead of the 1st black president. We all know he is black but that is not the reason I voted for him. He was the 1st candidate that made me hopeful for the future. The time for change is upon us and we as a country can make that change happen. One man can rev us up but he cannot do it alone. So just like “THE VIEW” we the people need to come together, exchange ideas, fight for what we feel is right and make the right choices for the right reasons. So thankyou President elect Obama for bring us Hope for the future
November 5th, 2008 at 12:29 pm
so continue to judge her when she acts inappropriately. But I don’t think today that she did. How many times has it been said that she never sees the good in Obama? That she states her feelings no matter what he had said spins it negatively? It just seems that that is what is going on with her, and I am not even a fan of hers.
November 5th, 2008 at 12:33 pm
Whoopi’s going to Michigan-lol.
November 5th, 2008 at 12:36 pm
Again, if LDV showed some hint of genuity or apologized for actions both is spewing hate and/or abusing her professional privileges by speaking about Michelle Obama at the RNC, then we’ll talk. I do not forgive George Bush just because Obama got elected President. This logic of “forget all” doesn’t make any sense.
November 5th, 2008 at 12:41 pm
If she had apologized today would you have believed her?
November 5th, 2008 at 12:44 pm
being i’m just learning the computer(i’m 67) don’t quite understand as to why i’m asked(?) to again leave a reply———i will. elizabeth’s comment reg.palin having more experience that obama is just plain not being able to recognize brilliance and natural leadership–there is no comparison between the two, none, palin hasn’t the natural “given” O has, good lord didn’t liz learn anything through BUSH the president of the USA?? i guess not. i think it sooo showed how innately (just by the inner look on palin’s face)she handles loosing in a very immature way, which right there shows lack of experience. oh good lord—–the FIRST DUDE, he was just so obviously MAD just downright mad–again infantile display. NOT GOOD
November 5th, 2008 at 12:47 pm
i saw a clip of todays show and it was quite a dicotamy between the eh of toddayaying she feel good and is conented with as much calm and candour as she had passion yesterday when she said he not my president yet ect. 2 ehs? i mean it one thing to say hey he won congrats am sure he will be great and maybe add someting nice you would not have said util the end. but this i feel good stuff with no reference to mcain did great and am proud of him.none of that? really? I dont know where she gets it maybe she drank joys koolaid. j/k
November 5th, 2008 at 12:54 pm
forgot to mention she did a fist bump but the frist time obama does something she does not like she is back to eh
November 5th, 2008 at 12:57 pm
What is the phase EH like to use???? oh ya can you say “FLIPFLOP” she flipflop on bush now she flipfloped on Mccain
EH could say she was sorry for the negativity that she spread but like I tell my kids if you keep doing it how sorry are you really. I give it a couple of months before she starts off on the negative train again.
November 5th, 2008 at 1:00 pm
I think Elizabeth was being sincere today. She was actually very gracious and I was appreciative of her.
However… I still don’t trust her and based on her past behavior have no reason too. She knows how to stay on the right side of whoever is winning. She distanced herself from Bush since McCain was going to be the new repub. She is exactly like Palin, except Palin knew to start to distance herself from the losing team earlier on to set up her own future. Remember, she is a ’survivor’ - lol.
As Vernon Jordan says his dad said - ‘you dance with who brung you’. EH dances with whoever is in charge…
Sherri was great. I totally called it on the special needs thing making her undecided. She is very emotional and leads from the heart.
The election isn’t over. We have almost 3 months of the current admin rushing thru their agenda before leaving. And there is an enormous amount of work ahead of us.
But for today I am happy (also for Prop 2 passing in CA for more humane treatment of animals!).
November 5th, 2008 at 1:09 pm
Wendee - In the true sense of the word apology - that she feels the depth of the pain she has caused and promises to not continue that behavior in the futre - yes, I would’ve forgiven her. However, it still wouldn’t mean that I think she should be up there. She just doesn’t bring anything to the table. With a nation of bright, articulate people, we can do better. Yes we can.
November 5th, 2008 at 1:11 pm
For those yesterday that were upset that we were an EH bashing blog, check out the comments on HuffPo posting the video of EH yesterday went she went off on Jeremiah Wright AGAIN.
There are at last count 74 pages (59 last night) of about 20 posts a page - that’s about 1500 comments about her, one more nasty than the next. lol.

Roger says: :ShannonP
Dont we have to be good winners? If we win but cant get past the politics then what did we win?”
Roger, don’t confuse politics with this. This is a reaction to Elisabeth, not the election. I will not embrace Elisabeth just because for one day she puts on a positive act. She doesn’t know how to be on a “losing team” and to me it’s all an act. Hate begins with an idea. Elisabeth spread hate, utter hate and lies for 2 years about Obama. When you spread hate like that, you are responsible for where that hate might land. If some nutjob picks up on some lie you said and runs with it and actually takes action on it…not so innocent and “just words” then is it?
If other people want to buy the act, that is completely their right to. I am not easily led and programmable. She to me is part of a very hateful group of people and she lied about Obama all that time and with great passion when she did it, she can easily put on the charm and lie about this too.
November 5th, 2008 at 1:18 pm
Thank you, Heather. Unfortunately, now I really don’t think there was a shred of genuity in EH today. She probably saw the Huffington Post, realized that Ariana Huffington is friends with BW, and figured she needed to start saving her job.
November 5th, 2008 at 1:19 pm
Elisabeth just has her “GAME FACE” on today. Underneath she is just regrouping her thoughts and options. She makes nice and continues OR??????? There’s nothing else out there for her. She has made a complete idiot out of herself with irrational and rude spews as well as using her position to be disrespectful to Michele Obama.
I thought Barbara Walters was unrealistic in her assessment of how they all fought ferociously but still respect each other so. What about the viewers opinions? It is quite apparent from this web site that we have lost respect for the show and all respect for Elisabeth.
Today’s show was really nice and I enjoyed Sherri & Whoopi and Joy. I liked the MLK clip and it was a treat not to be sickened to your stomach with an EH rant.
November 5th, 2008 at 1:23 pm
I like the comments today. I agree with most, especially rainlillie and Rachel Anna. I did have a chance to watch the show and remarked at how eloquent she was today. Truly sincere. I’m proud of how far she’s come during this election.
Joy is justified in her response and actions given the negative tone by TLB. Let’s not have short term memory here.
This was a win for the country, not african americans and I don’t like the tie in with MLK jr. Why not tie in RFJ jr and his comments about a black president? Obama is the President Elect of the United States and his supporters are of all races. The media is trying to marginalize Obama as the “black president”, and it’s p!ssing me off.
Now for TLB. She’s ingratiating her comments and working on repairing her image. Nothing more. I don’t buy false “this is a win for the country” comments when she was pushing lies, fears, smears, and parroted talking points for a full year. She’s vile and vapid. I also haven’t forgotten her comments, which were totally uncalled for, against now First Lady Michelle Obama. I don’t like TLB and probably never will.
TLB showed me who she really is and I’m not going to give her a pass because Obama won. She wanted to stand up for her convictions, now she has to accept the consequences of her actions, like all of us have to do.
November 5th, 2008 at 1:25 pm
I forgot to add how eloquent Sherri was today.
November 5th, 2008 at 1:26 pm
I guess i am very easy programmable then. She did the right thing today. In fact, I am so easily programmable that I stayed here against all the others who do not agree with me on this issue. The Huffington Post article was yesterday, and her behavior yesterday was inappropriate. I am only commenting on her behavior as of today.
November 5th, 2008 at 1:28 pm
Does that erase the last 2.5 years, Wendee? One day?
November 5th, 2008 at 1:30 pm
Rachel….
I never said it did. I simply said today she acted appropriately, and that unity is what we need in this country. Why is it assumed that that means I agree with her on the last 2.5 years?
November 5th, 2008 at 1:40 pm
First of all I would like to say yay!!!!!!!!!! to Obama. I thought today’s show was a breath of fresh air compared to the past shows. I think TLB deserved an academy award for the performance that she put on today. Maybe she should quit her day job.
November 5th, 2008 at 1:43 pm
#45…………….Well said. I agree with your remarks.
I enjoyed today’s show.
November 5th, 2008 at 1:57 pm
I totally agree with you Wendee
If she wants to change her tune then Im all for it…. if tomorrow or next week she starts spewing herself again then Ill be right there with the rest of you. Today she made the right first step…. it probably is fake, but it was an effort…. something to build on.
Remember…. things were said in the primaries. After Obama was chosen, we had unity…. now that the campaigning is over…… we need a unified America.
November 5th, 2008 at 2:03 pm
#26-wendee
EH put herself in a no win situation.
After watching the show today I’m even more disgusted with her. She should have took the time to prepare some sort of apology just as she took the time to look up and write down all the negativities she could about Barak Obama. Then she could have said she would do her best to support him. I still wouldn’t have believed her but at least it would have come across better.
How can you wake up one morning so ready to support someone whom you found so vile for months on end?
No, she’s not being sincere - but I do believe in change and hope and I do hope she takes the time to learn and grow and LISTEN and change.
November 5th, 2008 at 2:15 pm
# 75 Wendee,
Elisabeth did act appropriately today. As well unity is what this country needs.
I agree with you.
No one is going to forget the things Elisabeth has said in the past. No one who really dislikes Elisabeth is going to find themselves with a change of heart where she is concerned. Not because of the comments she made today.
At least I don’t expect that.
I do believe Elisabeth when she says that she “will support our new president elect, because as Americans that is what we should do”. I believe she will.
She is right, that is what we all should, and need to do.
# 25 Donnaj.
I don’t think that Whoopi was trying to muffle Sherri, I think that she was trying to assist her in maintaining enough composure to express her heartfelt feelings.
That was my impression as well.
November 5th, 2008 at 2:20 pm
It was easy for Elisabeth to be a right-wing conservative when one sat in the Oval Office but now, she’s what, suddenly rethinking her postions? She’s like a teenager trying to always be a part of the popular crowd.
November 5th, 2008 at 2:22 pm
I with Shannon P on this one. I am not buying her act either. I am still a bit sore about BG not having her to “apologize” for her behavior at the RNC luncheon. There is no way she can just flip the script like that overnight. I still see her as a self absorbed, vile, ignorant child and she is just as dealing with the fact that humble pie can be bitter.
The people have spoken. ALL (in reference to diversity) came together to put this man in office and he deserves our full support and I, for one, am proud to give my Commander in Chief all the support I can muster.
November 5th, 2008 at 2:22 pm
I’m with Wendee and Roger…it is a new day.
I don’t forget easily; For example…I’m still stuck on the “n word, brassiere and slacks fiasco”.( in my world that deserved an apology) That said, I thought that today EH handled her party’s loss graciously and we should look forward. Do I think there is a better person to fill her position…yes I do…easily. But I think she gave us the best of herself today and I am grateful.
And I am getting bored with the “spewing hate” phrase. Maybe something more creative like….???? Work with me; I know you are good and innovative people.
November 5th, 2008 at 2:23 pm
To all of you who are upset about the way Obama was smeared, maybe these words will help some.
—————————————-
In this country, we rise or fall as one nation, as one people. Let’s resist the temptation to fall back on the same partisanship and pettiness and immaturity that has poisoned our politics for so long.
Let’s remember that it was a man from this state who first carried the banner of the Republican Party to the White House, a party founded on the values of self-reliance and individual liberty and national unity.
Those are values that we all share. And while the Democratic Party has won a great victory tonight, we do so with a measure of humility and determination to heal the divides that have held back our progress.
As Lincoln said to a nation far more divided than ours, we are not enemies but friends. Though passion may have strained, it must not break our bonds of affection.
And to those Americans whose support I have yet to earn, I may not have won your vote tonight, but I hear your voices. I need your help. And I will be your president, too.
— President Obama 11/4/08
November 5th, 2008 at 2:28 pm
All I can say, is now I see why America is in the shape it’s in. People refuse to hold others accountable. Instead of questioning the sentiment expressed here by those of us who aren’t buying her act, why not go after her with the same force when she trashed President -elect Omaba’s character?
She made her bed, now she has to sleep in it. It was just yesterday, not a week ago or a year ago that she was talking about Rev Wright and throwing whatever hate she could throw.
Note to Bush: If you want to get your ratings back up, just say we should all come together and be united. Then all your bad deeds will be forgiven.
Everyone wants unity, but some of us want unity along with accountability.
November 5th, 2008 at 2:30 pm
thanks Rodger,
November 5th, 2008 at 2:31 pm
Roger, that’s all fine and good. But we can’t overlook bad behavior. How do you think Bush and Cheney got away with all the things they got away with?
November 5th, 2008 at 2:32 pm
GraceKelly Says:
I thought Barbara Walters was unrealistic in her assessment of how they all fought ferociously but still respect each other so.
omg GraceKelly - I totally agree - that was the PHONIEST! did you see they all just looked at her. good thing they didn’t do a close-up on Whoopi’s face. She was like Wha???
I’m SO sick of BW repeating that statement esp. when it is patently false. Do we care that they are friends off-screen? All they are responsible for is that hour on-screen. That’s what we care about and that’s where they need to address each other with more respect.
November 5th, 2008 at 2:34 pm
Rain;
We get it; we really do…that said EH did a good job today. That doesn’t mean we don’t remember the past; we just thought she did a good job TODAY.
November 5th, 2008 at 2:35 pm
A good job? She accomplished what she needed to accomplish.
November 5th, 2008 at 2:40 pm
Rainlillie,
I don’t agree EH did a good job today.
Snow job? Yes.
Good job? No
November 5th, 2008 at 2:41 pm
well you know if McCain had won, there is NO way Joy would be sitting there saying ‘He is our new President and I respect him”, so let’s remember our issue with double standards from the hosts.
EH could have said a lot of things. I really did believe her AND I don’t forgive her. I think she likes being a good girl - obedient and blindly following authority. It didn’t smell phony and we always call her on phony.
November 5th, 2008 at 2:45 pm
Funny how people respond to the same situation.
#91 Heather in LA says;I really did believe her AND I don’t forgive her.
I on the other hand didn’t believe her but I can forgive her. With that said, I still don’t trust her.

—————————-
Your words are very wise. I think that we all should respect one another even if we don’t share the same view.
November 5th, 2008 at 2:48 pm
If John McCain had won I don’t think Elisabeth would have been a gracious winner…Maybe if she hadn’t been sooooo intense in her disapproval of everything concerning Barack Obama one might think she was being sincere today.
Say what you will about Sherri but when she sheds tears, they’re real, not imitation.
November 5th, 2008 at 2:51 pm

All I can say, is now I see why America is in the shape it’s in. People refuse to hold others accountable. Instead of questioning the sentiment expressed here by those of us who aren’t buying her act, why not go after her with the same force when she trashed President -elect Omaba’s character?
We held her accountable when she said the things she said….. when she trashed Obama we all called her on it…… all of the hate, all the lies, all the uninformed comments were answered then.
with all the dirty politics that the republicans used, including EH, Palin and McCain along with any other people u want to address……. all that they did…. they LOST……it didnt work good politics turn the page after the election…… those that used dirty politics we watch them closely and if they slip back then we call them out, until then, we accept what they say (even if we dont believe them)
November 5th, 2008 at 2:55 pm
It’s not that rain ins’t being a good American.
I believe she wants accountability.
There was so much hated spewed from EH’s mouth that it should be addressed because as viewers, we deserve to hear it. If she apologized, whether we believe her or not, it would be a starting point in the healing.
November 5th, 2008 at 2:58 pm
Rainlillie, I am with you all the way today.
November 5th, 2008 at 3:03 pm
# 84 Rainlillie,
Instead of questioning the sentiment expressed here by those of us who aren’t buying her act, why not go after her with the same force when she trashed President -elect Obama’s character.
I’d like to respond to that.
I am not questioning the sentiment of those who don’t believe Elisabeth’s words were true.
I just believe that Elisabeth did act appropriately today. I think it is what she should have said, whether it is truly in her heart or not. For the viewing audience, for our country. We have to come together in this country. Unity, that’s what I want to see promoted.
I certainly am not saying that she has always acted and spoke appropriately.
I myself didn’t comment on many political things, about any of the candidates , or what any of the host had to say about them.
November 5th, 2008 at 3:11 pm
Devon and Rain
Be specific about what you want EH to apologize about…(I’m in with the N word Brassiere and slacks and much more). But she is not the anti-Christ and some are giving her way too much power.
And that said, considering what a great day this is, I’ll wait until tomorrow to say that the set sucks, and the production values are painful. So just wait until tomorrow!!
November 5th, 2008 at 3:13 pm
I think to look at anything as a singular entity, instead of through a prism of history, consequences and action is extraordinarily dangerous and ill-judged. I understand why everyone is defending Elisabeth today; basically, everyone is tired of bickering. I get it and I respect that. But to insist that EH did a good job today — what is that really saying? I have become accustomed to more thoughtful insights, whether conservative or not, on this blog. If we took a singular day in the life of Osama Bin Laden (no, I am not comparing EH to Osama Bin Laden), we might say he “did well today.” But that does not mean that a certain person hasn’t left us wounded. For me personally, I cannot forgive EH for her actions because of one day. This is a woman who deliberately distanced herself from the people that put her on Survivor ( “reality people”) in order to get the job at the View. She’s not a loyalist - she’s someone that does what she can in order to advance.
I do not think Obama’s victory inspires a blanket “let’s all get along,” but rather it compels us to examine what we really and truly want. With his victory, we proved we could get that. In terms of the View, I’d really like a person with an honest heart and a big brain up there.
November 5th, 2008 at 3:21 pm
Um…EH…newsflash for Grace. Somebody did lose and that was your Mom’s team. Palling around with cultural terrorists like Hannity and spewing hate filled invective against good people ensured she lost. It also ensured that The View has lost me until she is replaced with a classy Republican.
November 5th, 2008 at 3:23 pm
Hi there!
Whoopi expressed it so sincere & with great love & understanding regarding our President Barack Obama & his beautiful wife, Michelle & daughters.
President Obama lost his grandmother, but WON the fight that so many racist & bigots like Elisabeth with her negative acts against him will not go unnoticed. Obama has stood fast to his beliefs & didn’t get NEGATIVE until he had to defend him & family & love of our country & that WE understand.
As long as Elisabeth continues to have hatred breathe in HER body nothing will ever change her.
Also, the reason why her child knew who won the Presidency is because Elisabeth talked soooo…much about Obama (that backfired against her) that that’s the only name her child knew which Elisabeth couldn’t explain. I feel sorry for her child because of her mother’s hatred more than anything. It’s not just an opinion but a longtime past due expression of Elisabeth’s hate & she’s proud of it!!! That’s so sad. Whoopi’s 100+ correct, WHY try to explain something that HUSSY-BACK will NEVER understand nor care to.
Elisabeth Hasselback’s true color came out & she does need education & eyesight on the ECONOMY/COUNTRY/LOVE!
Elisabeth is a hypocrite from her heart-SHE MUST GO…LEAVE THE VIEW BEFORE GETTING FIRED, because Barbara WILL get rid of her, A.S.A.P.
Hussy-back took the liberty to steal someone’s hubby, like Cindy McCain…how can you trust anyone like that?
Elisabeth changes her mind depending upon who she’s for & likes…she did the same when the Palin girl got pregnant but differently when Britney’s sister became pregnant.
Talk to ya’
November 5th, 2008 at 3:25 pm
Rachel Anna
With you about an “honest and a big brain”.
But please, you seem to be letting EH be the whole show.
Did I mention that I was waiting until tomorrow to mention that the set and the production values suck???
In the meantime I mean to celebrate with the rest of the world that Barack Obama is the new President of the USA.
EH who?????????
November 5th, 2008 at 3:31 pm
I am sick and bloody tired of EH making up these stories involving what her daughter said as a way to make herself look good. This has happened many times before today. But today takes the cake. I’m sure EH, Tim and their PR agent sat up all night thinking of this one: “no one lost”. Sorry, don’t buy it for one second. It is not possible for this idiot to be spouting hatred and trying to ignite racial prejudice when she invoked Jerimiah Wright for the 1600th time just 24 hours and on election day when people are voting…and then after Obama wins she is full of “grace”, humility and the ultimate patriot. Sorry. EH is full of something though: bullshit.
November 5th, 2008 at 3:34 pm
Joey, I am with you mostly. And you’re right - I think I let my blogging about EH overshadow my extreme praise of the others today. I just want to see the stain that is EH gone from an otherwise talented, hilarious and witty canvas. Sherri was amazing today, Joy was hilarious and Whoopie had me at hello.
November 5th, 2008 at 3:45 pm
UMM…. Gosh guys… hate to bring up the fact that stuff happened on the View today other than EH’s response to the election. Some people are seeming to become as singular-minded as the person they are complaining about…not a good way to evoke change; which I agree is needed…easy to find a smarter woman with a conservative view.
Okay now the challenge was to find an alternative phrase cuz the spouting, spewing, hatred theme is wearing thin…
November 5th, 2008 at 3:49 pm
Hey Rachel
Thanks, I hadn’t read #05 before posting #06.

The last two could work, but only if we have really done OUR Homework…really
November 5th, 2008 at 4:04 pm
Prediction: EH’s comeback from here on out will be, “I was on his side, ready to accept him as President, when he won the nomination, BUT .”

Just as a joke, the image of a blad LDV as Dr. Evil from Austin Powers just popped into my head. Made me laugh.

For trying to instill fear in people by saying over and over Barak Obama hangs around with “terrorist” (Ayers) and “questions” his other friendships. Not accepting the fact that they were not friends but just acquaintances.
For bringing up Rev.Wright and calling him anti-American and a hate monger, like she has any clue what this man is talking about and for “questioning” Barak Obama for being in his Church for so long. Trying to insinuate maybe Barak is anti-American. Questioning his patriotism.
For disrespecting Michelle Obama at RNC convention insinuating she had something to hide.
For being on the ‘attack’ every time Barak Obama’s name was mentioned.
Just to name a few…

I get it…I do
So did you see Oprah today?? It was intelligent and touching…I cried…I cried
November 5th, 2008 at 4:12 pm
Just in case someone missed the story…..
I think it is quite important that we all know this…..
Yesterday, we elected Barack Obama as President of the United States.
Just in case someone missed it.
November 5th, 2008 at 4:15 pm
could someone help me out?
I missed some of The View today…. did Joy say anything about wanting me?
November 5th, 2008 at 4:16 pm
Thanks Devon
Making it clear is so important…the peeps don’t hear “she spews hatred”.
November 5th, 2008 at 4:17 pm
No Roger.
November 5th, 2008 at 4:18 pm
Rodger, she didn’t come right out and say it, but we could all see it in her eyes.

I think that we have to keep in mind that while 52% of the popular vote is extremely satisfied and happy today, 48% of the vote are disappointed. Elizabeth is one of the 48%. I am hopeful that 100% of the disappointed population show positive support for Barack Obama just as Elizabeth has. Could you imagine what a horrible world of poor losers and winners this would represent if Americans can not dig deep and find some good in the end result.
Elizabeth is a Repub, and Joy is a democrat. They are both entitled to thier opinions as is everyone else.
Celebrate that people from both sides are embracing Barack Obama. Why would we want to continue to divide the nation after the fact.
November 5th, 2008 at 4:30 pm
Last night was so much fun…… Ohio put him over the top….. when they called Ohio, that made 200 electoral votes….. Cali, Oregon, and Washington were all going to go to Obama….. those 3 were worth 73 votes…… so when Ohio was called, we knew it was over.
and Ill tell u…… there was lots of whiskey that you can believe in!!
Im not much of a drinker…. but I did last night. Lots of champaign too.
The only down side was the local dems were defeated. It is tough living in a dark red county.
November 5th, 2008 at 4:37 pm
OMG…. it was so funny
This guy wanted to go down and razz the republican office…… so I went with him…. to keep him out of trouble.
We went in because he knew someone in there. While they were talking (and I was being good)
some guy got all “religious” with me…. calling Obama the new Messiah, and getting all nasty….. so I asked him (nicely) how he could be (anti-choice)pro-life and pro war at the same time…. then it stopped being pleasant and I had to leave.
I guess I made it to the line but didnt step over it…. lol
November 5th, 2008 at 4:39 pm
Roger
I’m sooo happy for you and all Americans. Don’t worry about the whiskey…the world was calming their nerves with a few tipples and many corks exploded when Barack Obama became the President of the USA!!!
November 5th, 2008 at 5:03 pm
Roger, great story. Hilarious also. You were smart to get out of there before you got into an ideological match. It was a great night and all about bliss. One thing that has always bothered me about some Republicans is how they can be pro-life yet also pro-death penalty. Seems completely hypocritical to me.
YAY PRESIDENT-ELECT OBAMA! So so happy! It was one of the most emotional nights of my life. I look forward to one day bringing children into this world in the new era. My friend remarked that she’s going to once again put her American flag sticker on her backpack when she’s traveling. She was pretending to be Canadien, but she couldn’t quite muster any of the Canadien accents. LOL.
November 5th, 2008 at 5:04 pm
Canadian. Damn it!
November 5th, 2008 at 5:20 pm
# 28
Eh!!! Not a problem…
you are a sweetheart
Winnie, I think we are going off topic…sorry
November 5th, 2008 at 5:20 pm
I haven’t been on for a while, but I had to share everyone’s joy at the election! I cried when they announced, ‘Barack Obama, the President Elect of The United States of America! To have this wonderful family in the White House is a priveledge and to see young children there again….beyond words! EH is not really very bright. If she were, she would have just congraulated Obama and the Americans that voted for him and maybe remarked how cute the children were last night. No one would have pushed her for more, they would have just let it go and enjoyed the victory. Hannity has already started with ‘watch out for terrorist links’ garbage and I’m absolutely positive that EH will find a way to jump on that bandwagon. She is like a rabid dog, who has been smacked and is slinking back to recoup energy for the next attack. Enough about that whack-job, YAY, Obama/Biden!!! I’m praying for you!!!!!
November 5th, 2008 at 5:28 pm
Actually, I was just thinking that Obama’s winning this election is sort of like moving into a new house that has been trashed for 8 years. He will have to do major house keeping and house cleaning, patch the walls and the leaky roof, mend the fences, pave the driveway, create a healthy workplace and kick our the freeloaders, all while taking care of the neighborhood! Big job!!! He really needs our prayers!!!
November 5th, 2008 at 5:37 pm
I just watched the clips…for those that actually bought that, what a joke. Seriously, after all the posts on it I thought she’d be more convincing than that, but that is about as transparent as it gets. You guys seriously fell for that?? I just shake my head at that. It doesn’t take much to make people forget I guess. Pretty soon I’m going to see a parade for Bush and what a great President he was as well.
November 5th, 2008 at 5:54 pm
Roger…. Joy said she really likes your slacks
November 5th, 2008 at 5:58 pm
ShannonP–
you are missing the point….. it isnt about her and what she says…. it is about US….. thats right us…… if we treat those that were against us badly…. then we didnt really arent any different then they are….
If they want to stay divisive that is up to them…… if we push them after we won then we are in the wrong.
If WE act correctly…. we will unite America.
November 5th, 2008 at 5:59 pm
LMAO wendee
November 5th, 2008 at 5:59 pm
this is ridiculous. We said Elisabeth ACTED appropriately today. I have no way of knowing what she was really thinking or if the story of Grace was true. I am merely commenting on her actions. Does she really hold that much power over you all that you are so filled with animosity towards her? You give her way too much power then.
November 5th, 2008 at 6:09 pm
#132, ShannonP;
I agree with all of your post regarding this topic.
#98. Sandy,
It’s not about TLB’s politics, it’s about the vicious way she went after President-elect Obama’s character. She implied things about him and his wife that weren’t true. It’s nice of you to commend her when you think she’s done something good, but you should have also condemned her when you thought she said or did something wrong.
Such as… Implying that Mrs. Obama was being deceitful or that President-elect Obama was “paling around with a terrorists.”
I see this is game to her, she wants to be on the winning team, which is why she can switch gears so easily. Supposed for a moment people bought into her lies and McCain won. We had people on here defending her disgusting actions, where are they now? Now some are saying oh it’s time to move on.
I’ll move on when she offers an apology to Mrs. Obama and President-elect Obama for some of the hateful comments that she has made. She can bash him on policy all she wants, that’s fair…but she went too far when she made it personal.
November 5th, 2008 at 6:16 pm
I just wanna say that if there’s ever a day to let us go “off topic,” it’s today.
November 5th, 2008 at 6:17 pm
In the words of Joy’s SNL character, “So what? Who cares?”
November 5th, 2008 at 6:42 pm
Does anyone else notice that you can’t “ask the view” on the view website today?
November 5th, 2008 at 9:00 pm
rainlillie,
I get what you are saying and totally agree. I remember the Clinton years and the right wing talk show hosts all too well.
Am curious, are you asking for EH to apologise or just state what her true feelings are now (after the Election)on those same issues she so admantly spoke about just 24 hours before on ‘The View’.
Has she changed her mind or does she still think we have elected a man who is not honest with shady friends. Is she just glad we have elected a black man. Does she still think he hung out with terriosts and tried to hide his associations.
As I am sure are you, I am pleased beyond belief that Obama had such a decisive win.
I am fortunate I was able go see him in person twice and get to shake his hand once. I have spent months phonebanking for him (mostly into southern Ohio). His story is now part of my life’s story and that of all the citizens of our good Earth.
November 5th, 2008 at 10:18 pm
Sandy
I won’t speak for anyone else, but I am still uncomfortable with EH and her lack of respect for the opinions of others.
Perhaps an apology would work; I’m still pissed about the N word compared with B&S.
We all know about feeling passionate about issues…but her vacillation on almost everything(didn’t she once love GWB)concerns me; especially when it’s on a show that professes to express the female viewpoint…oh ya, did I mention that a show about women should not have a male “View Master”
That said she did do a good job today, and it seemed sincere. Does that take away the past…no…we all have to prove ourselves.
After the N’word fiasco, it is a bit creepy, that 2 days later, and I’m sure many hits… the “Ask the View” option is no longer…hmmmm
I think we all just want a bit of BinB…which would translate to Bask in Barack.
November 5th, 2008 at 10:43 pm
EH is a joke…. Someone needs to do the backpeddling motions she makes.
If she is actually trying to make people beleive she is behind him, she’s nuts.
Sorry EH, no invitation to the White House this time, no matter how much groveling you do!
I also don’t believe EH has these conversations with Grace. Now Sherri is jumping on the bandwagon.
Give me a break.
I’m thrilled Obama is our next President.
November 5th, 2008 at 10:45 pm
Also, I believe EH is trying to save face now that her pick lost.
She keeps commenting on how competitive she is and she needed to say something first before the others started ragging her.
The fake smile told it all.
November 5th, 2008 at 10:49 pm
She is a loathsome snake.
November 5th, 2008 at 10:52 pm
Also, had to agree with Joy when she commented on the family had to look or be perfect to get elected.
My black friends said that if Obama had been darker or had bigger lips or a wider nose, he wouldn’t have been voted in, no matter what he said.
Although they said they would take the victory no matter how it came.
November 5th, 2008 at 11:07 pm
Why do I feel like I have to defend someone whose opinions I question?
It would be because no human being should called a loathsome snake.
Are you okay and is there anything we can do to help???
November 5th, 2008 at 11:32 pm
Was it something I said?
November 5th, 2008 at 11:36 pm
No, no. I just hadn’t checked back in. This is just how I feel about her.
November 5th, 2008 at 11:47 pm
You know, I have to say that I thought about “loathsome snake,” and if it was really awful to say. If it struck a nerve with you, then I apologize. But people have said a lot worse on this site - including censored versions of the “B” word, which I find much worse. Loathsome snake to me is accurate because I believe she’s acted this way. However, if this somehow conveyed “devil” to you, then it’s not what I meant. She is not evil; I simply believe she has become a hateful sniveler. Perhaps I used “loathesome” because people were so sick of “hate” and “hateful,” etc. I was trying to find a synonym.
November 5th, 2008 at 11:49 pm
Or perhaps it’s because I usually write so much(LOL) that my unusually terse response made the statement stronger. “Brevity is the soul of wit” - Shakespeare. Truly and honestly, I apologize if this struck your chord, but I stand behind the words.
November 6th, 2008 at 12:13 am
I should have said, “She acted like a loathsome snake.” As someone who cherishes words, I should’ve been more careful in the arrangement of mine.
November 6th, 2008 at 1:00 am
Rachel Anna
I think loathsome snake is quite accurate as I have used that as well. She does act like a sneaky snake in the grass springing out with venom. She has repeatedly refused to engage in an honest dialogue. She is someone we cannot trust to be polite or a team player.
I think that is why Barbara Walters is trying to handle her so carefully…for fear of beaing bitten herself.
Barbara acts very strange with Elisabeth. She has cut her a lot of slack for very outrageous behavior to the detriment of the show. She tries to pretend that they are so passionate in their views but all respect each other. To quote Joy…..”That’s lipstick on a pig.”
November 6th, 2008 at 6:44 am
Well as an Australian, my heartfelt thanks and congratulations to all you US folk for voting Barack Obama for president. The rest of the world can now sit back and relax and pray he guides you all back to peace and prosperity along with the rest of us that Wall Street dragged into an economic quagmire.
I agree with those that say EH changing her tune today is just a cover, she will continue with her vitriole towards Obama as long as Hannity is in her ear. She was only gracious in defeat because of the overwhelming love and support shown to Obama and will sit and wait ready to pounce again. Sure she has a right to condemn any policies she disagrees with but she has the inate ability to be a cruel, nasty critic and attacks the person and not the policy. Well done America on your choice of President.
November 6th, 2008 at 6:47 am
In reply to #60, BW is as weak as piss, she should have hauled EH over the coals publicly for her comment about MO at Cindy McCains luncheon, instead of just the t-shirt incident which was much the lesser of the 2 evils.
November 6th, 2008 at 7:10 am
I have to agree with Margo about eh’s comments about MO at CM luncheon, I feel that this is abuse of her position at the VIEW for her own personal gain(sound familiar)??? I thought maybe she was talked to by her demeanor a few days after that event but I feel this was a gross conflict of interest and unethical and immoral to use that information for personal activities unrelated to the VIEW….I don’t know how BW can be comfortable with letting Eh have access to any information.
I wanted to thank Sherri for her show of passion yesterday, as a mother of a young black man, I can only imagine how this feels.
GOD BLESS AMERICA OBAMA 08
November 6th, 2008 at 7:54 am
I’m in total agreement with ShannonP and Rain.
Yes it’s good Bits said what she did. Yesterday was a day to be positive and I am glad she did not inject her usual negativity. Still, I have doubts about her sincerity. I haven’t forgot how she has acted the last several months and 1 day will not erase it. its has a way of being one way to your face and acting contrary when the back is turned. Lets not forget how nice Bits was towards Michelle O when she guest hosted that one day yet when she was at the RNC luncheon she acted another…
I don’t buy EH’s stories about Grace either.
November 6th, 2008 at 7:59 am
Margo, joey and anyone else living in other countries:
I see other countries were excited about Pres-elect Obam’s win. Can you all please put into words why? What is it about his win that has made you all so happy?
Thank for your perspective.
November 6th, 2008 at 9:08 am
I’m Canadian. The most meaningful thing about Barak Obama for me is that he is unlike Bush — and now I feel instinctively that a very real threat to the entire world has passed. That Obama and his circle aren’t bullies and won’t be willing to destroy other cultures just to line their own pockets. I have renewed faith in the basic decency of the people of the United States, that they would make this choice.
I am also deeply moved for African Americans. Their joy is so long overdue, so hard-earned, so profound. It is my joy, too.
November 6th, 2008 at 1:29 pm
# 144 Rainlillie, & 149 Joey,
I know exactly how you, and most of the others feel about Elisabeth. I understand that.
Of course her comment on Wed. does not take away things she has said in the past, or make up for it.
I don’t, and didn’t suggest that it should. I just felt it was the appropriate thing to do, and am glad that she said what she did.
As for commenting on things she says that are ridiculous, and yes, hateful, politically, No, I didn’t.
It doesn’t mean that I think they were right, or the right things to say.
I simply choose not to comment on political issues, on, or about either side.
Everyone is not the same, and I felt more comfortable not making political comments.
As for her comment at the RNC luncheon, concerning Michelle Obama, I did comment on that. I felt it was wrong, and very unprofessional, and I felt she should apologize for doing it.
November 6th, 2008 at 2:38 pm
Well said Petal, I totally concur. It feels a veil of fear and uncertainty has been lifted from the rest of us, this to me is the beginning of an era of consultation with the rest of us instead of dubyas belief that he was voted the world sheriff. He did a lot of damage around the world and the US is/was held in such low regard, especially in relation to its foreign policies. With Obama it is like an new age of enlightenment, consultation and hope. I sat up half the night watching CNN and cried and cried with joy when Barack was elected, it gives us all hope for the future not just the US.
How proud must be the African/Americans, as I am for not only them, but you all. I am glad I was able to witness history being made. Well Done.
