The View October 14th Recap: E.D. Hill, Jim Cramer, Paula Deen, and Gabi Wilson
Today on The View, E.D. Hill sat in as guest host, as a replacement for Elisabeth Hasselbeck. Elisabeth was on a class trip with her daughter, Grace. E.D. is from Fox News Channel and has a book out called I’m Not Your Friend, I’m Your Parent. She has eight children and joked she likes a martini on Friday. Joy asked her how she stays skinny. E.D. said by chasing them around.
Her book is about setting boundaries and how parents should not try to befriend their children. Whoopi said that parents want to speak the lingo and want to be “cool” with their kids. Joy said she had friends whose moms would tell them about their affairs. Sherri tells Jeffrey she is lonely because he cannot understand her. Whoopi said parents don’t know to set boundaries. E.D. said that parents should not try to give their children happiness and should allow them to pursue it for themselves. Sherri asked her about Sarah Palin and her being able to do it all, despite having many children. E.D. said that the more children you have the more you can get things done. Joy said that the oldest child can become resentful when they have to parent their siblings.
E.D. teaches her children manners, like “please and thank you, ma’m.” If you start with the little things like that, then they won’t talk back to teachers later on in life. She likened it to when Rudy Guiliani got rid of the squeegee guys in NYC and it impacted larger crime. Joy agreed with that because she felt unsafe with people approaching her car. E.D. said she never knew if she should give them money because they would probably buy booze.
Sherri said that she wants Jeffrey to have siblings, but selfishly thinks she cannot handle another child. E.D. says you have to give up your life. Whoopi said that they are lots of kids in foster care that need homes and would love to have siblings. E.D. asked how difficult it is to adopt kids from foster care. Whoopi said that there are thousands of older children in need, it is the babies that are more difficult to adopt. Joy said that it is not selfish of Sherri to only have one child. She can choose to only focus on one child. Sherri said that she does want more children, but she knows that it will be a lot of work.
Levi Johnston, father of Bristol Palin’s unborn baby, said that he always planned to marry Bristol and it is not a shotgun wedding. He dropped out of high school and is working. He thinks Obama is a “good guy,” but wants McCain/Palin to win. E.D. said it is stupid because Palin made it a big deal to keep kids in school. Joy said that she graduated H.S. at 17 and wondered what is wrong with the boy because he did not graduate yet. Whoopi said it depends on when your birthday is. Joy said if he only has one more year, why he couldn’t finish? Joy said that if it was a Black teenager, they would “be all over it like a cheap suit.” E.D. said there is a double standard, but there could be a lesson here for families because it is real-life and not like rich celebrities. Sherri said she has the governor as her mother and won’t she have benefits from that like Jamie Lynn Spears had? E.D. said that if Palin was going to be stepping in, she would have done so already. Whoopi said that Bristol won’t be going up to the oil wells with Levi, so the Palin family will have to step in and help. Sherri said that when a teenager has a baby is when she needs her parents most. E.D. said that Palin has been supportive of her daughter. Joy said what choice does she have because she is against abortion. Joy wants to know why they are waiting until next summer to get married and wondered if they are waiting for moose season. Whoopi’s daughter was 14 when she got pregnant she was in shock when she told her. She said that she can teach her children as much as you want, but can’t always prevent it. Whoopi said Levi is honorable to be going to work. Whoopi said that they are waiting for the wedding to see if they can have it at the White House.
Jim Cramer, host of Mad Money, appeared on the show. Money is exciting to him, the way other people have passion for sports or movies. He said that the DOW going back up is not a sign of health, but a sign of craziness. He said to save money right now. He said that the government has been taken by surprise by what happened and E.D. asked how they could be surprised, they have to pay credit cards and mortgages. Cramer asked “How much is the mortgage on the White House?” He said that they were previously told that the fundamentals of the economy were sound, which is what Hoover used to say. Cramer encourages people to take money out of the stock market if you will need it in the next five years. He was afraid he would lose his daughter’s college fund, so he pulled it out. She will be going to school soon. He is still saving money for his younger daughter. E.D. said that now the government is doing what Europeans are doing and why haven’t we figured it out ourselves? Cramer said it is becoming more socialist because we have lost control of the country’s money situation. E.D. is concerned about more catering to these companies because now the government has a piece of all the companies. Cramer said that we never wanted the government to own a piece of these companies, but it has prevented bread lines and empty ATMs.
Whoopi asked him about her 25% mortgage amnesty plan. He encouraged people to call the credit cards and mortgage companies and ask for better rates because they do not want you to default.
Paula Deen appeared on the show to promote My First Cookbook. Two little girls appeared to help Whoopi and Sherri cook. They made green eggs and ham. Add blue to make the eggs green, since they are yellow already. Then they made monkey bread using canned biscuits cut up with scissors. Add sugar and cinnamon and put them in a greased Bundt pan. Pour a butter and brown sugar mixture over top of it. Sherri asked Paula if she was worried about obesity. Paula said that they run around outside and burn off calories.
Musical guest 11-year-old Gabi Wilson also appeared on the show. She has been singing since she was three or four years old. She plays the drums, guitar, the bass, and the piano. She likes the bass because it shows the older, more soulful side of her, but likes the piano because it is like her couch. Will Smith is a big fan of hers and they have the same management. She just met Chris Brown and he gave her one of his hats. Gabi loves Alicia Keys and sang Alicia’s song, “If I ain’t got you,” while also playing the piano. She has also written a book of poems.

LOVED THE VIEW TODAY!!
The Elisabeth Switch-A-Roo will do! Ms. Hill is blonde, republican, and yet, I didn’t have the urge to bury a hatchet in her face. It must be true – The View CAN be entertaining without TLB!! Loves it!
Good Riddance Schmucko! The writing is on the WALL! November to Remember!!!!!!
Barack visited my Toledo YMCA this morning!!! He played BB, hit the treadmill, met the staff and hit the trail!!
October 14th, 2008 at 10:19 am
Enjoyed- again, enjoyed - The View today with no BW playing Switzerland and no EH screeching her craziness. Really liked Ms. Hill. Wow. Smart, calm, not a shrew. What a breath of fresh air.
Did like the special on cancer last week. Like the one topic information shows, not as a daily diet but as a now and again treat.
The View can be interesting without the screaming. Depends on the participants.
October 14th, 2008 at 10:24 am
Kelly,
ITA! I also really enjoyed Paula Deen too.
October 14th, 2008 at 10:26 am
I love her too, and all those FATa$$ foods!!!
October 14th, 2008 at 10:37 am
my dvr didn’t tape most of hot topics today. Thank you winnie for the recap. Iam sure we will hear all about EH field trip tomarrow.
The whole group did seem to be calmer today. I really enjoy Paula. I have watched her show and like how she has foods that anybody can cook. She really seems like she enjoys what she does and enjoys eating what she makes.
The money guy was interesting. I do agree with the guest host “HOW COULD THEY NOT KNOW?” It just shows that as long as the money is coming in the big wigs can often forget about where and how it gets there. I like how he said not to pull out everything from your investments.
October 14th, 2008 at 10:42 am
I liked the guest host, too. I just looked her up on Wikipedia and it says she is the one who made the “terrorist fist jab” comment. Yikes.
October 14th, 2008 at 11:00 am
The “terrorist fist jab” was such a silly thing to say. The only thing you can do is laugh at that kind of nonsense. My 10 year old and I, always fist bump when we score on my husband and son when we play badminton. Now we call it a terrorist fist jab.

Kelly,
Paula once made fried butter…LOL! Her sons are adorable too. My little one loves Paula and loves to cook.
October 14th, 2008 at 12:01 pm
oh ednaegan give it a freakin’ rest. harping on EH’s looks speaks volumes about your values. and as far as you thinking Joy was frustrated or how we bloggers feel, I hate to break it to you but you obviously have a problem with smart women.
October 14th, 2008 at 12:03 pm
so then ednaegan you think Eh is a poor representative of female republican voice and whoever whould replace her if she it repaced would do a better job? am I reading your post right?
that little girl was too percious her parent have got to be so proud. too cute
I glad levi said what he said i dont know why but i made me feel a better about them.
I think kids idealize prgenacy of stars a little no matter what until it happens to them or their cousin or friend. so unless jamie lynn does a reality show about how hard it is or bristol write book it is a little hard for teens to grasp the reality of it.
October 14th, 2008 at 12:28 pm
It was sooooooooo lovely not to have EH on today. A breath of fresh air. E.D. at least didn’t repeat a rant and allowed others to speak.
October 14th, 2008 at 12:34 pm
Did any one else think that maybe today was a TIME OUT for Elisabeth? Usually they state they will not be there on such and such a day. She went too far yesterday supporting Hannity supporting Martin. Just read some more about Martin this AM. What a hater! Certainly no one who should be showcased.
October 14th, 2008 at 12:39 pm
Thanks Winnie,
I did get to watch the show, and I enjoyed it.
I had never seen E.D. Hill before, and I found her interesting, and liked her.
The phrase “I’m not your friend, I’m your parent”, is pretty familiar to me. I’ve said it a few times myself.
I came from a large family, 6 children, and my mother did it all, including working outside the home. Of course the older children did help, with the younger ones, and some chores. I might have been a little resentful as a team, however when I got older, I was very thankful that I learned responsibility, and the help of family.
I think if i was Levi’s parent, I would certainly stress finishing high school. I think it is very important. As is college.
I haven’t been in their situation though, so… He is 18, and if this is his choice, there isn’t much a parent can do. He can always finish his education later. We all learn from our mistakes.
I like Jim Crammer, I’ve seen him on the Today show often.
I like Paula Dean, and loved the segment with her. I have to try some monkey bread.
I have seen Gabi before, and she is fantastic. Very talented. I really enjoyed hearing her sing and play the piano again.

Gads it was nice when I tuned in the show a bit late and saw…..no big mouth bleached blond..oh there was one but not the obnoxious one. What a treat.. the show was more relaxed and thus I was more relaxed..let’s have more shows like this PLEASE!!
I saw on a cable show this a.m. that kids nationwide have “voted” (they have picked the president that has actually won the election each year..so far!). This year they picked….Senator Obama!! Please I pray they are right and feel that they are this year too.
October 14th, 2008 at 12:52 pm
When someone repeatedly comes to this site just to rile people up and says the same line of stuff over and over again and you take the bait and reply back to that person, you are part of the problem too. They aren’t after a discussion, they are after your reaction and you are giving them exactly what they want.
October 14th, 2008 at 12:54 pm
Grace, I don’t think Elisabeth gets time outs on this show. The fact that she was still allowed a spot on the panel without ever having to apologize or acknowledge what she did to Michelle Obama speaks volumes.
October 14th, 2008 at 1:19 pm
Excellent point ShannonP– both 16 & 17
October 14th, 2008 at 2:04 pm
I hope Grace has more field trips planned!
October 14th, 2008 at 2:04 pm
Shannon P. Just because I don’t do what you would do, doesn’t make me part of any problem. Your advice not to take the bait is appreciated, your insult is not. An occasional retort to some people’s ridiculous comments can be gratifying.
October 14th, 2008 at 2:14 pm
You people that have been praising E.D. Hill have been duped. I have watched her many times on Faux News. I watch FN all the time (keep an eye on the enemy) She is a nasty condescending woman that thinks all Dems are criminal. She likes using the “coward” and “criminal” words when talking about Dems. At least with EH she is just a passionate parrot. E.D. Hill helps to make up the things she parrots.
In case anyone wants to know….. The Toledo Obama event was just great…. I shook his hand. It was quite exciting.
October 14th, 2008 at 2:22 pm
That little girl was a great singer as well as musician.
That is a lot coming from me. I once had a GF that would have made an incredible singer. She could have made it big if someone important would have heard her. Any time I would see someone preform I would compare them to Joni, and they wouldnt measure up. Thats one reason Im not an American Idol fan.
This girl, Gabi Wilson, is the first one that I have heard that was on Joni’s level.
I may be biased.
October 14th, 2008 at 2:42 pm
My question is why they would have that terrorist fist jab person on? They really do seem to be buddy buddy with Fox News. Promoting Hannity yesterday (and pretty much all the time through Elisabeth), E.D. Hill today. I didn’t watch the clips of the show today, but of all the people the could have on to fill in for Elisabeth, seems pretty purposeful who they selected?
October 14th, 2008 at 2:44 pm
Another question I have, do they ever have people on that cook truly healthy food and not heart attack inducing foods? I’m trying to think back on who they’ve had on there and who the healthy cooking ones were?
October 14th, 2008 at 2:56 pm
I’m well aware of E D Hill’s record. I don’t watch Faux news, I do however read News Hounds.
I wasn’t fooled by her, I think people were reacting to her guest appearance on today’s View, not on her behavior on her own show.
Shannon,
I’m not sure why ABC continues to try to be Faux lite.
October 14th, 2008 at 3:11 pm
I know they did some kind of healthy food not too long ago because while I can’t remember the sponsor, I remember Whoopie and Sherri trying things and making faces because it didn’t taste good to them. It was tied into the segments of Whoopie on a diet where she was working with a trainer and weighed a few times on the show. She said she refused to go without some fast food or another.
October 14th, 2008 at 3:15 pm
worthwhile video as a response to McCain’s campaigning on fear mongering and race baiting:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U5mdIPNB8t8
October 14th, 2008 at 3:20 pm
“Things have gotten so out of control that some conservatives have come forward to denounce McCain and Palin’s hate-mongering. In an Op-Ed for The Baltimore Sun, Frank Schaeffer writes: “John McCain: If your campaign does not stop equating Sen. Barack Obama with terrorism, questioning his patriotism and portraying Mr. Obama as “not one of us,” I accuse you of deliberately feeding the most unhinged elements of our society the red meat of hate, and therefore of potentially instigating violence.”
October 14th, 2008 at 3:27 pm
Meredith,
Thanks for the video. That kind of behavior is just shameful! I really enjoy David Gergen. I wish they would invite him on the View. He’s an old fashion republican and a gentleman.
October 14th, 2008 at 3:38 pm
I stand corrected, although David supported Bush 41, Reagan and Nixon he is an Independent.
October 14th, 2008 at 4:33 pm
#9–”you bloggers —them whammo, back to your lib screaming.”
Like you do to the posters on this blog?
October 14th, 2008 at 4:37 pm
go Dee!
October 14th, 2008 at 5:03 pm
Amen, Dee!
Um, Ednaegan - a few days ago you were saying how this board isn’t entertaining for you. Why are you still here spouting nastiness?
I can’t believe you think that mindless sk*** is attractive, but then, most of your opinions make no sense to me either.
October 14th, 2008 at 5:13 pm
ShannonP, it does seem like they are pimping fox news…maybe bill geddie is looking to leave abc (perhaps taking elisabeth with him one hopes)
October 14th, 2008 at 5:26 pm
I think ednaegan is a guy…
Although it doesn’t matter I just have a sense about the comments.
As long as the comments pertain to the topic
of the day what’s the diff if someone agrees or disagrees with another blogger.
Happy Blogging!!!
October 14th, 2008 at 5:58 pm
I told you guys I was going to write CNN and other networks and ask them to do a story on the AIP and the Palin’s, well guess what they did it. Here’s the link:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wAm-Nvk3FAw
I had a few friends e-mail CNN too. He even read the quotes we sent them.
October 14th, 2008 at 6:33 pm
I don’t think Levi dropped out because of the baby. Both he and Palin’s son were kicked off the school hockey team and I think he dropped out then. (and her son had an oxycontin habit which is probably why they sent him off to Iraq).
Also, what Whoopi said about them waiting to marry til next summer? I don’t think it’s whether or not Palin gets in office, I think they said to him go along with this til the election and if we don’t win you don’t have to marry her. Mark my words - I’m predicting now they won’t get married when Obama wins….
October 14th, 2008 at 6:35 pm
Thank you, Rainlillie, That video is bone chilling! The Repubs constantly whine about the MSM taking the Democratic side in everything, and the MSM replies by never running these things for fear of being soft on the Dems. The difference with the reports like this one is that it is true! Can’t they report the truth? Actually, I wouldn’t want to be in their shoes with their campaign going down the tubes on a daily basis! They have nothing to talk about except non-issues like ‘didn’t back the surge and the Bill Ayers 40 yo thing.’ Yay for CNN.
October 14th, 2008 at 6:39 pm
I applaud you rain and your friends to bring this to the attention of the MSM….. it is about time that the news actually covers a TRUE story for a change.
Now if the rest of the MSM will pick up the gauntlet and REPORT the answer to the lies that the republicans have been using to smear Obama
October 14th, 2008 at 7:19 pm
Fantastic Job rainlillie! And to everyone who volunteered, spoke-out, read-up, and took offense, thank you for saving us! The nightmare is almost over.
…and the final nail in the coffin?
John McCain and his Saddam Hussein Lobbyist!

Obama/Biden! Party at my House!!!!!!!
But don’t ease-up the fight, we need to bury this breed of politician forever!
October 14th, 2008 at 7:35 pm
Roger, that is so cool you met Obama! Where, at Maumee Bay State Park? I love that place.
October 14th, 2008 at 7:54 pm
Excellent info Meredith #28.
Frank Schaeffer also added, “If you do not stand up for all that is good in America and declare that Senator Obama is a patriot, fit for office, and denounce your hate-filled supporters when they scream out ‘Terrorist’ or ‘Kill him,’ history will hold you responsible for all that follows.”

OMG!!! Thank you Kelly!!! Now, who is “palling around with terrorists”. Wow!!
HYPOCRITES!!! All that finger pointing at Obama…now look!!! Glass houses….man, glass houses!!!!!
October 14th, 2008 at 9:02 pm
#41 Kelly
No…. it was at the SeaGate center downtown.
I took like 40 pictures…. most of them were of Obama….. I also have some from the rope line where I got to actually shake his hand.
The guy that drove me down, brought his wife and baby. She took the baby down to the rope line after the speech and Obama took him in his arms and bounced him and kissed his head. That was totally cool, but the best part was it showed up on Hardball later that day…. they showed Obama with the baby and the mom was in the picture in tears.
such a cool moment.
October 14th, 2008 at 10:09 pm
Eh’s fill in was refreshing. I don’t agree with her political views, but she doesn’t lose it when people make a point.
She was something EH is not…mature.
October 15th, 2008 at 1:29 am
Ok I am going to comment without reading the posts first. I loved the new host!!! She had said so many things that I can relate with. First of all, teaching your kids to strive what is not naturally born to them is a great message. The other thing she said that having many children gets you to get stuff done is so true!! I know the remaining panel cannot agree since they only have 1 child, but lord, I remember when I had only one.. it took me 2 hours to pack the bags and baby and leave the house, number 2 child got me in gear for prior planning and keeping perfection, after number 3??? It was all pure miltary drills for baths, dinner, clean up, etc. Then I had 4 and was still prepared. The more children you have, the better organized or methodical you become. Peeps who have only one or two maybe not relate, but I sure can. You put away all the things that are not important and make the things important, the priority and you become selfless. The oldest child does help out, but if you have 3 kids under the age of 8, the oldest is not that helpful if you want them to be well rounded. Its when they become teenagers to help in babysitting and chores. I did have the joy in having a semi large family and mostly the kids had most of the joy in it. All the outings, all the appointed jobs due to skill set, my kids have great memorys as well as I do in my childhood of 4 siblings.
I loved the new host interaction with the regular hosts got alot from all their points of view. I think its a lifestyle choice to have a large family or small. Either way, you give life and raise them the best they can be to your ability.
Amen sistas!!!!
I’m just saying….
October 15th, 2008 at 2:03 am
Rain,
thanks for video link, It was totally worth investigating and watching Sarah Palins message to the group is just damning. How can the Mcain folks compare the treason to Obama’s supposed religion? its not the same and its only speculation. On the other hand, their affiliation with that group is certainly not speculation. You are always on target woman!
I’m just saying…

Rainlillie, Meredith and Kelly,
Thank you for the articles and film clips.
Edna, you aren’t relevant.

October 15th, 2008 at 12:28 pm
First,
Rodger, thank you, for telling us a little about your visit to senator Obama’s speech. Especially about your friend’s and their baby.
Happy for you that you got to shake his hand.
Rainlillie,
She and I may not always agree, but I RESPECT and ADMIRE her determination, and dedication for what she believes, and her candidate. Good for you!
Aileen, Hello my friend.

Hello Sandy Dahlink!
