The View October 1st Recap: America Ferrera and Chris Matthews
The View started with a discussion of how people are saying that Hillary Clinton is laughing a lot more to give the impression of a softer persona. Whoopi Goldberg said that people are saying that she is a shoe-in but you can’t say that yet. Joy Behar said that it seems like George Bush is trying to push her a little and he can’t be trusted. Sherri Shepherd said that Hillary is laughing at the questions they are asking her and she is unflappable. Whoopi agreed that they are asking her ridiculous questions and that is probably what she is laughing about.
Clarence Thomas has a new book, My Grandfather’s Son: A Memoir. He feels like the reason people went after him regarding the Anita Hill allegations because of his race. He also says that he was being attacked by the liberals who did not want him to get the nomination because he was against Roe v. Wade. Thomas said that the problem with affirmative action is that white people will think that Black people got into their position only because of affirmative action.
Whoopi said that people in this country do not start on equal footing, so, unfortunately, affirmative action is necessary to equalize the playing field. She added that women benefited a lot from affirmative action. Elisabeth said that she goes back and forth on affirmative action and thinks that in sometimes it is necessary. She worked on a Title IX committee while in college because she believed that women should get equal support and opportunity in college sports as men’s teams.
Joy said that she is confused why Thomas wants abortion laws to be made on a state-by-state basis. If he believes it is wrong and a sin, why is it okay for the states to decide it. Elisabeth said that he wants it come by a vote from the people rather than the federal government.
John McCain said that he would prefer that the president have a Christian faith like him, but that does not mean that a Muslim would not make a good president. Whoopi said that she doesn’t know if it should matter. Sherri said that she would want her president to have a relationship with God and does not know if she would want a Wiccan president casting spells. Whoopi said that what she said was prejudicial. Elisabeth said that McCain is just expressing his opinion about who he would want to be president.
Whoopi pointed out that when JFK was running for president, people were concerned that he would be asking the Pope for advice about how to rule the country.
Two nuns in Italy beat up their Mother Superior because they were upset with her authoritarian rule. The archbishop closed the convent because the women had lost their religious vocation. Whoopi said that it proves that nuns are still women. She said that it is not an easy life to lead.
America Ferrera, star of the television show Ugly Betty, appeared as a guest. She was the first Latina to win an Emmy for Best Lead Actress. She said that she conducts herself in a way that she goes to bed at night proud of how she acted. She works hard to keep herself grounded.
She said that the diversity in television in the past five years has been great and there are more Latinos on shows that are not specifically made for Latinos.
She said that her Emmy dress was handmade for her and she felt great in it. She said that the way that she dressed that night is a character just like she is a character in Ugly Betty; neither is the real her. She wants to know when Betty will finally get her braces off.
She went to USC for international relations, but did not finish her final semester. She joked that as long as she does not graduate college, she is still young.
America said that prior to Ugly Betty, she tried to sell some furniture on Craiglist and her publicist called her, furious, because she put her address out there. America said that was one of the first times that she realized that she was famous.
Chris Matthews appeared on the show to promote his new book Life’s a Campaign. He said that gender is the biggest question in this election. He said that he is not sorry that he voted for President Bush in 2000, but that he was wrong in his selection. Chris said that Bush “fell into the wrong crowd.”
They showed the cover of New York magazine which shows a woman with Bill Clinton’s face. Chris thinks that Hillary has a 40% chance of becoming president and is so far ahead that the media want to make the campaign more interesting. He added that their life in the White House will be like a sitcom: Bill want to sit in on her meeting because he is friends with the world leader she is meeting with and Bill will be involved with other women.
He thinks that Rudy Giuliani is the front-runner for the Republicans and said that democrats “fall in love and republicans fall in line.” He said that he likes how Jon Stewart said that Giuliani had “9/11 Tourette’s syndrome” and mentions 9/11 no matter what he is talking about.
He said the key to being a good candidate is to be a good listener and to look people in the eye. He said that a good politician will not always make a good president, but a bad politician will make a bad president.
Nick Kroll appeared on the show to promote the show Cavemen, which grew out of the Geico commercials. He was in costume/character. He said that he and his roommates watch The View and The Hills because they love to watch beautiful women bicker.
He took digs at Sherri Shepherd a couple of times saying how some people believe that evolution does not exist and saying “this flat earth.” Later in the interview she started rubbing his arm a little and said that she was feeling him.
Whoopi wanted to know why all the cavemen appear to be the same color. Nick said that some people choose to hide that they are cavemen and change their appearance. He said that there are a lot of cavemen living among us, like Neil Diamond and Bill Clinton.

The dyed blond haired one (EH) was flapping those stupid talking lips of hers a lot today. She has to make sure to get in those gop talking points for Fox. Gadzooks, I’ll be ever so glad when she goes away! Whoopie would have been funny if she had read the bit about the nuns through without missing half the story and laughing so much. Sherri was funny today. She’ll burst out with stuff that is hilarious.
October 1st, 2007 at 11:55 am
May,
I agree about EH, I may start watching again when she’s gone. Here’s the link to a article about her http://www.goodhousekeeping.com/names/celebrity/elisabeth-hasselbeck-1007
I had to laugh when she said she “wasn’t an enabler.” After all she supports Bush.
October 1st, 2007 at 11:56 am
I was surprised by how quiet EH was while Chris Matthews was tearing down her guy, “W”. For once, she didn’t jump to his defense. Maybe because CM DID vote for Bush initially, so he didn’t start out anti-Bush like most of them.
I was cracking up at the ‘caveman’! When I heard that there was going to be a TV series based on the Geico cavemen, I thought it sounded so stupid. But after this guy’s performance in character today, I may actually give it a try! He was hilarious!!! And I loved how he made fun of Sherri with both the evolution and the flat earth comments! Too funny!
October 1st, 2007 at 12:25 pm
Not all republicans and or conservatives agree with everything Bush says or does.
Thanks for the link Rainlille.
I also enjoyed Nick Kroll.
October 1st, 2007 at 12:58 pm
I only got to see the Chris Matthews bit & thought it was funny because he didn’t let any of them get a word in; I thought he seemed nervous around them. I kept hearing EH yip yip yipping in the background, and that made me laugh. The funny thing about him is that I am always reading online that right wingers think he is a biased Democrat, and Democrats think the opposite. It surprised me that he admitted he voted for Bush. I do remember a time when he sang his praises. I’m glad he sees the error of his judgment. I wonder why Whoopi was so silent. Not interesed, or did he diss her? Who knows….
October 1st, 2007 at 1:25 pm
Sandy ,
You’re right. There are some like my in-laws who have walked away from Bush and the GOP, because of his lack of leadership among other things.
They like Paul, think being loyal to the Constitution and their country is far more important than being loyal to their party.
October 1st, 2007 at 2:13 pm
“It surprised me that he admitted he voted for Bush.”
That is surprising to me as well.
October 1st, 2007 at 2:19 pm
Peaches - you summed up Elisabeth perfectly when you said she yip yip yipped in the background, like a small yappy dog with a high pitched voice. Also, I’ve noticed Whoopi is very quiet when comedians are on, as if she wants to give them their full quota of time without interrupting - in a “supportive fellow comedian” sort of way.
October 1st, 2007 at 2:40 pm
I was glad they talked about politics but again it was a watered down conversation.
I also liked Chris Matthews. I’ve never seen Hardball - only Daryl Hammond’s impersonation of him on SNL(which I now see is preety good). I think it would have been a good idea for him to be on two segments instead of just one.
I guess I turned off the tv too soon. It sounds like I missed a funny segment with the guy from Caveman.
October 1st, 2007 at 2:40 pm
meant pretty good!
October 1st, 2007 at 3:04 pm
I really enjoyed Chris Matthews segment! This was surprising to me because there are times that I have found him to be quite annoying. Not today. He spoke rather bluntly and to the point. He gave answers that took me aback - ones that I did not expect from him. Like him being wrong about voting for GWB and his feelings about Hilary’s candidacy. I just wish they had given him more time to speak! Seemed like he was being interrupted a lot.
The caveman portion had some funny moments. I did not get why Whoopi asked the caveman a question in a ‘valley girl” way. That was weird. I loved him poking fun at Sherri with the flat earth. Oh and him saying ‘leggo the preggo’ regarding EH and her San Francisco question. LOL. But the segment was still a little blah. Seemed to be uncomfortable moments where the hosts did not know what to say or how to react. I suppose given a few months it will all ebb and flow but I really thought they would all come together (interviewing-wise) by now.
All in all, an ok show today.

Rainlillie, Thanks for the link on “the one who knows all,too bad you all can’t be smart like me” person. She would be good on Fox news with her rapid fire non-stop spouting yak. Cris Matthews has a good show and asks the hard questions of his guests but I think he tilts to the left which to me is fine.
October 1st, 2007 at 7:22 pm
You’re welcome May. I’m more of a Keith Olbermann fan. I can take Chris in very small doses.

Did anyone else know that there’s an online petition to get EH fired.

???
‘at some of the hotter guests’? What does that mean? Do they lower the temperature in the studio or something?
———————————————
You know what I meant by “hotter”. Haha, you are a funny one! ;} Oh, what do they mean by “HOT Topics”, hmmmmm??????
October 1st, 2007 at 8:44 pm
I like The View better when Barbara Walters isn’t on, but having said that, it just seems so amatuerish and badly moderated at the moment. I realize Whoopi has to find her way, but seriously how bad does it look to have her reading topics directly off the card, same goes for Sherri. C’mon ladies, be better prepared. Also I feel as moderator Whoopi needs to pick up the pace more and not look as if she is dozing off at times. As far as EH goes … sooner she is gone on maternity leave the better for me. I really find her constant interruptions, talking over others and the tone of her voice irritating. Joy is the only reason I am even bothering to watch anymore. Hope the show gets better or the ratings will fall fast.

I’ve been put in my place. My trolling skills are nowhere near those of rainlillie. On a thread about rosie leaving “the view” she injected her hate bush rhetoric into a non-political thread.
Not only that…
She posted like a mad woman, these times are all on ONE thread on ONE blog.
10:32, 10:46, 10:58, 12:20, 12:24, 12:53, 12:56, 1:00, 1:08, 1:13, 1:56, 2:01, 2:09, 2:15, 2:19, 2:21, 2:24, 2:26, 4:15, 5:20, 5:31, 5:42

The best coment on the thread, “As far as rainlillie, I think recess was over and she had to get back to class.”
You know rainlillie, a troll like me could learn a lot from a troll like you. For one, I have obligations in life, job, family, etc. How do you get around those annoyances?
Posting the same message over and over worked wonders, the other readers hated you for it. I’m going to start using your trick.
Your use of incoherent ranting and hatred was also stunning effective. Another trick of yours I am going to utilize.
Thanks for the help!!
Let me return the favor, stay out of the prediction business. Instead of being cancelled the ratings are up.
#171 “The View was on its way out before Rosie joined. Now it’s sure to be canceled.”

Peaches,
I know you said to ignore Brandy.
But I’ll engage her this one last time. Obviously she has become obsessed with me, why else would she take the time to look around on the web for my writings. Just go here http://greatmindsthinklikemerainlillie.blogspot.com/Brandy and you can read everything about my stance on the war and why I dislike Bush and his corrupt administration. All you had to do is ask and I could have saved you some time.

Sorry Brandy,
Here’s the link to my blog http://greatmindsthinklikemerainlillie.blogspot.com/

#18 rainlillie- like you said, “Obviously she has become obsessed with me, why else would she take the time to look around on the web for my writings.”
Thanks for looking around for *my* writings. Proved your point didn’t you?
But of course like those that only point fingers you didn’t comment on your trolling, your hate filled posts, your profanity, your posting the same off topic post numerous times in a single thread, your trolling on conservative websites/blogs with the left-wing talking points. And wow, how can you explain all those posts in that one thread on TMZ besides your hate of bush/republicans is all consuming of your life.
Face it, you are a troll. You’ve been called it many times before you trolled my blog, which is by the way why I followed you here.
As far as your website, it looks like all the other left-wing website. Hate bush, hate fox, the obligatory doctored photo of ann coulter, republicans out of context, blame bush for katrina, bush outed a spy (of course you posted that before it was proven she was outed by richard armitage) etc. etc.
Best might be your allegation bush can be impeached because he increased air pollution causing global warming.
Something I didn’t see you address on your website is why so many democrats also lied about saddam and wmds. You mentioned bush lying many many times but not once did you include the democrats in the lie. Feel free to explain why they voted for the war. Of course you can’t admit the democrats also lied so that’s why this question gets asked so many times by right-wingers. BTW, notice how Hillary “lied” about saddam/WMDS and she’s going to be the democrat’s nomination? Strange how liars prosper isn’t it.
P.S. Thanks for being the typical left-wing hate monger. My post on the other thread documenting some of your hate is still awaiting moderation. Enjoy having your friends seeing your words and a partial list of conservative websites you trolled.
P.P.S. Sasha commented on the other thread I must be looking for attention since I use my last name. Just the opposite. I don’t feel the need to hide behind a fake name like so many on the internet. It’s easy to say anything you want hiding behind an alias.
October 2nd, 2007 at 9:18 am
Nancy Pelosi will be on today. I hope they ask her some tough questions.
My guess is BW will talk more about Nancy’s achievement as a woman and less about the work that the Democrats must do to restore Americas standing in the world.
October 2nd, 2007 at 1:27 pm
I probably shouldn’t comment on this, ..but well I just want to express my opinion. Even though it doesn’t pertain to the thread, but comments above.
I don’t think of anyone who visits many web-sites, Conservative, Progressive or otherwise, reads and makes comments, as a “troll”. I guess it’s an accepted cyberspace word though.
Personally I think it’s fine and in many respects good to visit different web-sites, read, learn and make comments. That is one way a person can learn about the differences between the political parties, their ideals, and the way they precieve things.
Although NOT in reference to either of the above, because I don’t visit any of the above mentioned web-sites, and I have nothing against either of the above… I think comments can and should be made in a non-hateful manner.
Just my opinion and “View”
October 2nd, 2007 at 4:55 pm
Sandy, I wasn’t referring to normal people who “visit, read, and makes comment” on other Web sites. I was talking about people who cruise Web sites and blogs with the precise intention of starting a fight. Kind of like teenagers who get in a car with a carton of egg and cruise neighborhoods and throw eggs at every house that has a John Kerry sign. That is an Internet Troll. Their purpose is to interrupt and derail. I didn’t make up the term. There is a HUGE difference between people commenting and getting into vigorous discussions and disagreements and what is going on with the current Troll. I’ve seen it time & time again where Trolls crawl onto a site out of nowhere, out of the woodwork, and spew invective. The more you engage with them, the happier they are. I call ‘em as I see ‘em, and I’m calling a Troll a Troll when it is acts like an Internet Troll. I don’t plan to repsond to them. At this point, I don’t even read the posts. I get plenty of information about the right wing’s perspective from more mature, measured people. Just my view, obviously … but I felt you really misunderstood me.

That my friend is rainlillie. My trolling is dwarfed by rainlillie. Google me and google her, I bet she has more troll posts on http://newsbusters.org/user/rainlillie/track than I do total.

#24 Peaches,
Perhaps I didn’t understand what exactly is ..or who, is referred to as a “troll”. I appreciate your input, I have a better sense of why one would be called a troll. I never thought about it in the way you described.
I am sensitive to the term, as I was referred to as a Troll at one time while commenting at a progressive web-site. I wasn’t and had no intention of starting a fight, I was stating my opinion.
I know that you certainly didn’t start the term, and my comment wasn’t directly about your post suggesting that someone was a troll. Again I have a more clear picture. Thanks.
October 4th, 2007 at 7:18 am
Hi, Sandy. I didn’t see your note to me till this a.m. I know tons of right-wingers & several act like this Troll. I’ve heard them say they are going to sit down at their computer & annoy liberals; kind of like a sick hobby; they run around the Internet cutting & pasting quotes & links and, like a sniper with a gun, go to sites they ordinarily wouldn’t even go to (like this one) & take “shots” at liberals. They tell me they are going to teach those liberals a thing or two. They are thrilled when people take the bait & start to discuss things & argue & engage. These types of people all sound alike: I’ve heard it a million times. I told them they are not showing liberals anything the liberals haven’t heard already. Some sites like tmz are celebrity gossip sites, like the National Enquirer, and the commenters comment about lots of things that often get into politics. It’s not at all like coming onto a specific-topic site like The View, and not really even talking about The View over time but, rather, taking sniper shots at The View watchers because some of them have liberal views. Do you see the difference? When I see this Troll’s or any other Troll’s name come up on this site or others, I scroll right by and don’t even read the message after I’ve seen from their first couple of postings that they are trying to cause trouble. They are very easy to ignore. Like I said, there are plenty of people in this world who have the opposite point of view from me who are mature and sane, where I get info from about their opinions (even though I don’t agree! LOL). Just because you don’t engage with an Internet Troll (or whatever word you choose to use) does not mean you are not open minded. It just means you don’t want to engage with their toxic personality. I don’t need to be “told a thing or two” by an Internet troll. I don’t need to answer the Trolls’ questions & engage just because the Trolls pose questions. It doesn’t matter if you use the word Troll or any other word. It’s the behavior I’m talking about….. And while you may in your heart think you are merely “making a comment” when you go onto progressive sites, maybe it comes across to that community that you are kind of butting in & trying to inform them of things they have already considered and don’t agree with, and maybe that’s why they called you a troll. I don’t know. I’m sure it isn’t fun to be called that. I can appreciate your being hurt by it. But I’ve seen too many times people on the right side of the aisle try to inform me and others they don’t agree with because they are “just trying to help” me “see the error of my ways” or “understand their point of view.” This has been MY experience. I realize “both sides do it,” but not in MY experience. This is all just my food for thought, which obviously you can take or leave. Just keep in mind there are some nuts running around on the Internet & you aren’t going to get satisfaction from tangling with them. Sorry if I bored other people here with this commentary. Have a good day.

#28 Peaches said: “I know tons of right-wingers & several act like this Troll.”
Sandy, there are an equal number of “trolls” on the left. As my links have proven, rainlillie is one of them.
Peaches, strange how you didn’t mention rainlillie being a troll. I provided enough links that proved she trolled right-leaning blogs for the sole purpose of being antagonistic, insulting and disruptive. Like I posted on another thread, her troll history on newsbusters.org is much much larger than my total troll history.
You mentioned TMZ, she posted the same list of questions over and over just to be annoying.
Rainlillie shows her tolerance for those that don’t share her view.
