The View October 21st Recap: John Lithgow and Eve
Today on The View it was the four main hosts without Barbara Walters. Elisabeth Hasselbeck was wearing her John McCain shirt.
The first topic was Whoopi Goldberg’s cat and how the winner of the cat show was the same breed: a Russian Blue. Joy asked, “A Russian Blue? Can you see if from your living room?” Elisabeth said that she was “giggling on the inside.” They also showed a photo of Joy’s cat who had an accident and got his tail caught in a door. Joy said that her cat mounts one of her dogs and the other dog barks.
Both Tim and Steve are big snorers. Steve denies it. Sherri put a tape recorder next to her bed when she was married and then played the tape for her husband. Joy said and now they are getting divorced. Whoopi said that she goes to the couch when her “better half” snores. Whoopi said that sometimes he lets little “poot poots” go and sometimes she needs to leave the room for some fresh air.
Madonna and Guy Ritchie’s divorce is the next topic. Joy said that reportedly they had an 18-month dry spell and wonders how the media finds that out. The article also says that Madonna had strict food rules, allowed no TV, and wanted Kabbalah followed. Sherri said it was no wonder they were not having sex because Madonna was reportedly putting a lot of cream on and sleeping in a plastic suit. Joy said that she looks like she is working out too much. Elisabeth said that she needs to workout because she has said that she wants to beat up Sarah Palin.
Joe Biden said that there will be a generated international crisis to test Barack Obama’s mettle. Joy said that would happen with McCain. She said that we don’t need that rhetoric right now. Elisabeth said that he was very serious about it, saying Obama will be tested like JFK. She asked what that says to the American people and to our enemies and he should not open the door like that. Sherri said that maybe Biden should have not said it, but he is always honest and will go against what the party wants, like Sarah Palin saying she is against robocalls. Whoopi said that she thinks what Biden said is the truth because we are living in a crazy world.
John Murtha angered constituents by calling them racist. He has since said that he meant redneck. Joy said that was a big gaffe and you should not paint a whole part of a state as the same thing. Sherri said that “redneck” has become a good thing with Jeff Foxworthy. Joy said that with friends like Murtha and Biden, Obama doesn’t need enemies. Elisabeth brought up how Biden said that Obama was not ready to be commander-in-chief. Joy said that was during the primary and you need to toss that out. Whoopi said that when the “poopy hits the fan” people become friends with their party.
I was surprised that they did not have a set topic about the fact that Barack Obama will be leaving the campaign trail on Thursday and Friday to go to Hawaii to be with his seriously ill grandmother. They mentioned it only when Joy said, in the context of the race question, that people don’t look at Obama as half-white, which is funny because his grandmother looks like Edith Bunker. Sherri then said that they all wish the grandmother well, but it was almost like it was an after-thought. Whoopi said it is hard to imagine Barack’s mother bringing home an African man and her parents reaction. They talked about the “one drop” rule in Jim Crow days, which if you had a “drop of African blood” you were considered Black.
Congresswoman Michelle Bachmann said that Obama may have anti-American views and it has hurt her own campaign because she has received backlash. Joy said that Bachmann said that Congress should be vetted and she is trying to red-bait and it is like McCarthyism. Elisabeth said that she should focus on other issues with Obama like campaign finance and while she kept talking, Whoopi asked Joy, “Is that what Bachmann was talking about?” Joy said, “She’s changing the conversation.” Then they went to break. When they came back, Whoopi said that the question is whether, despite what you think of the candidates, is this anti-American baiting appropriate? Sherri said that is scary for people to make accusations that way. She tried to say that she remembered the McCarthy hearings from when she was a child, but Whoopi and Joy reminded her that she was not born yet.
Elisabeth said that Obama changed his mind about accepting public financing. Joy said that he has raised millions of dollars and if McCain had raised that much he would not be giving it back. Joy added that Obama needed all of that money in order to fight the Republican attack machine. Elisabeth said that it is about being true to your word and that McCain is a man of honor. Joy said that a man of honor would not say that he agrees with Bush 90% of the time and then now say that he does not. Elisabeth said that she likes to listen to Joe the Plumber. Joy interrupted and said that his name is not even Joe and he does not have a plumbing license. Elisabeth said something about spreading the wealth around and Whoopi said that the whole thing is crap because the more money you make, the more taxes you will be paying. She said that we are in two wars and we have a lot of things to fix, so the taxes will increase. Whoopi said that they should work to lower state taxes and put a moratorium on the taxes that show up on various bills. She doesn’t like paying taxes when she doesn’t know where the money goes to. Whoopi said that she will happily pay higher taxes with Obama because she knows he will fund programs that are important to her. She said that is not socialism, that is the American way.
Elisabeth said that the government has screwed up a lot likely, with Katrina. Joy interrupted and said “that was your administration.” Elisabeth said and with Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Someone else interrupted and Elisabeth said that she was just going to imagine the rest of her point. Then she said that is why she wore her McCain shirt, so she will just sit and not say anything. Whoopi said that both sides screwed up. Elisabeth said not to give the government more control. Whoopi asked who they were going to give control to, an Independent?
Sherri said that Cloris Leachmann channeled being a “skanky ho” on Dancing with the Stars and thinks that she will be going home this week.
John Lithgow appeared on the show to promote his book, I Got Two Dogs and his appearance in Broadway’s All My Sons. It was his birthday yesterday. He has a family and friend supper at home. His wife made lobster pot pie.
He gets thrown down on stage in All My Sons. He said that stage surface is very forgiving, but it still startling to get thrown down. He likes to take roles that scare him to give himself a challenge and a chance to surprise himself. John said this is a “monster role” to play Joe Keller. He said that although it is a 60-year-old play, it is relevant today.
John said that co-star Katie Holmes needed very little advice and hit the ground running. Tom Cruise has been there often and has been very supportive. John joked that Tom has seen the show more times than the director.
John was in the movie Footloose, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary.
His book is a “delightful doggie book for kids.” The lyrics are a song that he sings for children in performances that is always the favorite song.
Singer/Actress Eve also appeared on the show to discuss her new fashion line called Fetish. She chose the name to call attention to it and also to point out that clothing is often a fetish. Then they showed several looks from the collection. Eve said that they are for every woman.
Whoopi went to the Empire Pride event last night where they honored David Patterson and someone else that she can’t remember. Don’t forget that Joy and Whoopi will be at Foxwoods this weekend. (As if we didn’t know already).

EH: You’re finally right about something: Americans are smarter than red-baiting Republican tactics…that’s why Obama holds a 14-point lead over McCain, has 103 newspaper endorsements to McCain’s 32, holds 286 electoral votes to McCain’s 157.
EH: When you seize hold of any opportunity to spew Obama hate-rhetoric, you are the one who comes off looking like a desperate, scared child. You better work on your game face, and study-up on how to be a gracious loser. Your money, that you are so concerned about, is tainted. You didn’t earn it – you sold your soul for GOP Dollars and your day of reckoning is on the horizon.
EH: Finally admits Katrina and Freddie/Fannie were screw-ups, but REFUSES to acknowledge The Bush Factor, or Republican deregulation. What an absolute unrelenting shrew – DON’T GIVE UP ANY GROUND Sh*tty Bitty, even if it means trashing the truth.
This is a man of honor?
-Cheated on his wife
-Participated in Keating Five
-Gave 30 propaganda recordings to the Communists
-Ran the dirtiest campaign since Watergate
-Encouraged race riots
-Spent $70M on hate calls to voters
-Put career first in VP pick of Palin
-Voted with Bush 90% and calls himself Maverick
-Used fraud Joe the Plumber as GOP Pawn
-Called his opponent a Terrorist, Baby Killer, un-American, Muslim Extremist and anti-Christian
IF THAT is your idea of Honor – no wonder you conduct yourself in the absence of dignity.
Joe the Plumber’s dad spent 40 months in federal prison for his role in Keating 5.
Freddie and Fannie contributions to Obama came from individual contributions from employees, overwhelmingly, and only a small donation from Corporate coffers. Why? Because those employees saw the writing on the wall, knew their companies were going down, and wanted a leader who would save their jobs! Too bad not one, none, blew the whistle. Just like Sh*tty Bitty, they chose to circle the wagons in group-herd mentality despite their knowledge between right and wrong.

I voted I voted I voted and you will never guess who for?
The host were really about to loss it today for real.
Obama wrote as a responce to a questionarie that he would take public finace if he and his opponiate argeed to do so. So from what I understand he and mccain never came together and made the agreement. so technically ( technically) he never agreed to take public finace he said he was not oposssed to it and would IF he and mccain made agreement which they never did. but it is ashame he is the dem canidate and was not more for public finance.
Obamas outting taxes back to cliton levels that is far from radicial redistribution or taking from the rich.
Finally EH is for smaller governement but bush/ republicans have increase government isze and have about natinalized banks.
October 21st, 2008 at 10:15 am
The point of public finance is to give the American people the power in the political process and to take it from lobbyists.
With an average contribution of around $86, it seems that Barack Obama’s campaign is being supported by regular citizens and not merely by lobbyists. Looks like he is following the principle of the agreement.

Wow, a much better show than yesterday! There were some different “Hot Topics.” It was nice to see the ladies talk about something they/we have in common-like snoring spouses! LOL
In general today reminded me why I liked the show to begin with. It was fresh, current and not completely bogged down with worn out arguments and the book I shall not mention! Glad to see it.
October 21st, 2008 at 10:17 am
TLB is relentless. How sad that she couldn’t put her hate aside for one day. After all Obama’s grandmother is ill, and I find it really disgusting that she brushed that aside and STILL attacked him.
“So from what I understand he and mccain never came together and made the agreement. so technically ( technically) he never agreed to take public finace he said he was not oposssed to it and would IF he and mccain made agreement which they never did.”
Exactly!

Every day the anger and frusteration is building up more and more. Whoopi and Joy are handling their feelings very well, but wow, it is apparant how difficult it is for them to have to sit there with Elisabeth and remain composed and professional. Keep up the good work Joy and Whoopi, Elisabeth is going to lose it any day now. It’s just a matter of time before this hate filled girl loses it on national TV, but this time, there will be no lap for her to cry in. I think Barbara has had it with her but can’t do anything because Bill Geddie loves her. The only way Elisabeth will leave is if she digs her own hole. As Whoopi was saying today about how sometimes, when one tries to dig their way out of poo- poo the hole only gets deeper. I think she was insinuating Elisabeth into that comment. People like Elisabeth do not need any help screwing things up, they do a fine job all by themselves.
October 21st, 2008 at 10:20 am
Elisabeth wore her self designed McCain shirt today, so no one acknowledged it.. that must have annoyed her because she used the opportunity to try and make it look like SHE never gets to finish her sentence, and say she will just sit back and imagine the rest of her thoughts and puffed out her chest to show off her shirt. ‘I’ll just wear my shirt’.
She is pathetic.
October 21st, 2008 at 10:23 am
Kelly, I believe we are kin. LOL!! May I call you, sis?
October 21st, 2008 at 10:24 am
I thought it was REALLY tacky that they showed the picture of Madonna without makeup. What was the point of that?
October 21st, 2008 at 10:24 am
I saw a shirt that read: Elisab*tch – on Ann Coulter the other day.
October 21st, 2008 at 10:25 am
#8 Amy - Yup!
October 21st, 2008 at 10:26 am
I hope one of the ladies wear an Obama T-shirt tomorrow. A shirt saying something like, “That One is the Right One”.
October 21st, 2008 at 10:27 am
Frankly I think she should not have been able to wear the shirt. We don’t see anyone else wearing campaign buttons or anything like that so she should not have been able to wear it.
October 21st, 2008 at 10:29 am
Rainlillie,
I agree, EH should not have raised a single issue in regards to the dems in respect for BO’s sick grandmother. In fact, someone should have let McCain/Palin know that if they had any respect then they too should not be hard at work. IN FACT, I question why BO is pounding the pavement since his grandmother is ill. The whole fricken election and people with opinions should come to a complete halt because Baracks grandmother is ill. This will come as such a relief if he is the elected one. I am soooo sure that Iraq will put the war on hold if you mention to them that one of his family members has a horrible health issue.
Totally absurd.
And I saw the same show you did, EH expressed as much sympathy as the other 3 did. So if you are upset with the lack of sympathy bestowed, then truly look at the whole panel including the dems.
October 21st, 2008 at 10:30 am
Rain, they do stuff like that all the time. They are not a pro-women bunch. They constantly harp on other women, all of them do. They make outdated comments too when it comes to roles in a marriage, what men are like etc. My husband can’t stand to watch them, and especially can’t stand Elisabeth. I guess he’s just jealous of her
October 21st, 2008 at 10:31 am
How many more outbursts are we going to have with EH? Is this what she wants her career to be known for? Continually arguing with her colleagues? Shows a lack of maturity to me. Could BW have risen to where she is today if she acted the way EH does?
I find it odd that EH can wear a McCain shirt and yet BW commented a few weeks ago that Joy was not being objective in her comments because she is voting for Obama.
Has BW not seen her own show?
October 21st, 2008 at 10:35 am
I like to add to my above comment about Obama’s grandmother being ill. I would expect a “decent human” being to not attack someone on the same day that it has been revealed that a loved one may be on their death bed. “decent human” doesn’t apply to anyone who works for the McCain campaign. After all we’re talking about people who ONLY know how to take the low road.
October 21st, 2008 at 10:38 am
Common human decency dictates that you suspend baseless attacks while someone is unable to defend himself because he’s caring for a sick relative. Don’t worry President Obama will teach his former opponents about decency, class and dignity. It’s a tough job, I know, but he’s the man for the job.
October 21st, 2008 at 10:40 am
Please pardon my overlapping post, rainlillie. But may I say, you make a great point!
October 21st, 2008 at 10:44 am
You are so right, rainlillie. We saw that during the VP debate in particular. Biden became emotional recalling the death of his first wife and a child struggling to survive a horrible accident. The robot just continued on with so much as a second of sympathy. I know time is limited during debates and all, but a quick ‘my condolences’, or ‘I’m sorry for your loss’ would have suffice.
She refers to McCain as a great AmeriMcCain hero. Laughable. We all know if Obama was anything close to what we have discovered about john, he would not stand a chance in this election.
October 21st, 2008 at 10:46 am
Lets just paint everyone with the same Democratic brush. While we’re at it, lets move on and lable different ethnic groups, sexes, choices etc.
We’ve seen the attacks from both sides. An ill family member doesnt give anyone a free pass from the heat of the debate. If this is too stressful now…(in the words of crazy Joe Biden) how is BO going to handle a terrorist attack in “less than 6 months”.
Questioning whether Sara can handle being a mother and VP were fair game for the Dems. Is BO going to be able to juggle the presidency if a family crisis comes up? I think yes, but Rainlillie, you’re not giving him much credit by telling someone as insignificant as EH to back off because he has other things to worry about.
October 21st, 2008 at 10:52 am
No one said that Barack Obama won’t be able to take care of his personal business for the next two days. What was said is that it is classless and petty and mean and small-minded and childish to continue attacking him while he is off the trail on personal business. The judgment was on the people being classless, petty, etc., not on Barack Obama. I’d be willing to bet that if John McCain was busy tending to his aged mother, Barack Obama would lay off. And, I’m certain that Bitsy isn’t a blip on Obama’s radar. I’ve got a new nickname for her: Blipsy.

AGAIN THE VIEW HAS GONE TO FAR -IF WE WANTED TO WATCH THE NEWS WE GO TO FOX-CNN NOT THE VIEW-MOST WOMEN HAD AT ONE TIME A GREAT RESPECT FOR BARBRA WALTERS SHE SUCCEEDED IN A MANS CLUB ONLY.NOW THE VIEW HAS MADE HER WEAK AND HER CREDIBILITY QUESTIONED.SHE HAS NOW BECOME A REFEREE INSTEAD OF A FIERCE NEWS JOURNALIST. I REGRET I HAVE SEEN THIS SIDE OF HER.
THESE LADIES ARE OUT OF THEIR LEAGUE AND DO NOT KNOW ENOUGH ABOUT THE GOVERNMENT BODIES TO GIVE A EDUCATED VIEW- HELP AMERICA IF VIEWERS BASE THEIR VOTES ON THESE LADIES.THIS SHOWS RATINGS ARE UP FOR THE SAME REASON JERRY SPRINGERS WERE .JUST TO SEE HOW CRAZY THEY CAN BECOME.I WOULD BE INTERESTED HOW MANY PEOPLE AS I DO CHANGE THE T.V. CHANNEL AFTER THE HOT TOPIC OF THE DAY IS OVER. I HAVE NO DOUBT THE RATINGS WILL TUMBLE AFTER THE ELECTION , THE SHOW HAS MADE THE VIEWERS TAKE SIDES OF THE HOSTS.AND DIS-LIKE THE OTHERS. IT IS A SAD DAY FOR THE VIEW.
October 21st, 2008 at 10:59 am
Just to clearify:
Sen. Obama’s grandmother was released from the hospital Friday. He is going to spend Thurs. and Friday of this week with her, while Michelle takes on his Campaign stops. I have seen reports she has broken a hip which is very serious at 85, but I beleive she must be in stable condition at this point. I have not seen any thing to indicate she is on her death bed.
I will be saying a prayer for her.
October 21st, 2008 at 11:01 am
I wonder how many people have seen that picture of Obama with his grandparents and said “who are those white people with him?”
I do think they should have mentioned he’s taking time out of the campaign to visit his grandmother…I think it shows he’s a loving family man first, politician, second.
October 21st, 2008 at 11:10 am
Berndoubt,
BO isnt off the trail. He’s in Miami and then off to Virginia. Perhaps its time for you to take an example from JC and give us a friendly “I screwed up”. Thursday, when BO leaves to spend some time with his grandmother you can resume your judgement.
LOL

#14,#21 DonnaJ
you are comming off like a bitter nasty woman… Be honest with us…. if your grandma or parent was gravely ill, would you take off work and go be with them, or would u continue with your selfish life and just wait till the funeral?
Ill “betcha” that Obama will actually not personally do any campaigning while he goes to see his grandmother (will actually keep it private) Unlike Sarah Palin who made a campaign event while sending her son off to war (should have been a personal time) Unlike John McCain who said he would stop campaigning until the financial crisis was taken care of…. he never did that either……. never took 1 day off……. the only event he canceled was the Letterman show…. instead he went and chatted with Katie Couric
McCain has turned into a dishonorable person… he was to be a Naval Officer….. he has become a disgrace to his uniform.
October 21st, 2008 at 11:11 am
Whoops…I screwed up…I meant to say “to take and example from JM…”.
even more fun!
October 21st, 2008 at 11:12 am
I totally cannot stand EH’s behavior today…how she pouted when she couldn’t finish her point and then acknowledge the shirt that she designed for McCain…Joy zinged her a couple times today about changing the subject and interruptions but that always goes over her head. She has blinders on when it comes to this election….McCain an honorable man….how can she say that with a straight face? The other women may be pro Obama but they do acknowledge mistakes and error in judgements something EH has yet to do….
October 21st, 2008 at 11:21 am
Roger,
I am not here to judge what choices BO makes in regards to his personal decisions. Whatever he chooses, he will have to find peace within himself, and if that happens power to him.
You have just labled me “selfish” and you know absolutely zero about me and my personal life. I have made no mention whether I feel it is right or wrong that he steps away from campaigning for his personal family issue. I AM judging the fact that Rainlillie feels that HIS personal issues should effect how others go about doing thier own jobs. Sorry, the world does not revolve around BO’s grandmother. I’m sure his choice will be the right one for him, but dont condemn others for moving forward.
Roger, I like to think that a man that gave so much of himself as JM did for the rights of men and women who did not should have earned our gratitude. Like Sara Palins son, who is now fighting a war for you and me, and not sitting on a blog chatting with the girls. And please dont “tee hee”, I find it really annoying coming from a “man”.
October 21st, 2008 at 11:22 am
Obama is leaving the campaign trail for 2 days to visit his sick grandmother. Its not like he’s going to his ranch in Texas to clear brush or anything.
October 21st, 2008 at 11:27 am
EH cut right off to commercials!!! ;]
October 21st, 2008 at 11:28 am
While I don’t agree with EH normally, I do think she was interrupted a lot today by the others. That being said, she spoke about how the Republican congresswoman who stated that Obama was being unamerican and said that she is focusing on the wrong thing (instead should be talking about his financing issues). This is the first time she has brought up the campaign financing, when for the last few weeks would not stop bringing up the Ayers thing. All of a sudden a change of tune, because she realizes the other is not going to work.
October 21st, 2008 at 11:39 am
Rock on DonnaJ!!!
October 21st, 2008 at 11:41 am
PROIR POST: but it is ashame he is the dem canidate and was not more for public finance.
RESPONSE: I totally understand your sentiment, and am (sort of) in favor of public financing - sort of.
First, the kind of money Obama has raised is not the kind that causes ethical problems. Well, I’m guessing Obama has taken money from large contributors. I believe he has refused lobbyist money. Don’t know about corp.
Much of Obama incredible numbers are from small donors - an inch deep and miles wide. That kidn of money doesn’t corrupt. It’s thousands of people like you or me or won’t have any additional sway should we approach the government for something. That kind of money doesn’t corrupt.
SEcondly, if Obama HAD agreed, he would have been swimming upstream for several reasons:
1. The RNC had WAY more money than the DNC which they would ahve spent on the presidential race. I think it was somehting like DNC had 15m and RNC at 85m. Now the RNC doesn’t HAVE to spend all that on McCain, but they can, and would have put in whatever was necessary. They also use it for congressional races. Because they have to put more in to the presidential race to keep up with Obama, they have to put in less to the congressoinal races - or vice versa. In either case, if you look at the race as Washiong (Executive & Cogressional races) it’s a much more even race than if just hte presidential candidates bought in to spending limits.
2. The Repubs have far more 527s sympathetic to them that have demonstrated they are far more willing and able to be nasty, unfair, and even unethical in some people’s eyes.
Unfortuantley, the public financing is set up to only cover part of the problem. It’s like covering up one hold in the dike - which just puts more pressure on the other holes in the dike.
I am in favor of campaign finance reform. I haven’t yet figured out how to do it fairly, without stepping on 1st A rights. It’s a tough problem - not nearly as simple as the media suggests
October 21st, 2008 at 11:42 am
Just as an experiment, I have been watching Hannity and Colmes AND The View. Every day, Elisabeth’s points are exactly the same as Hannity’s. As I’ve said before, I think it’s valuable to have a conservative at the table, but this woman cannot even come up with her own thoughts! While Joy is obviously a Democrat, she does acknowledge Fizzie Lizzie’s POV sometimes. Fizzie Lizzie lost all credibility when she spoke about Michelle Obama’s View “demands” at the RNC. Women tune into this show to see four women discuss topics. Fizzie has lost her ability to discuss; she might as well be on the McCain payroll. She should be fired.
October 21st, 2008 at 11:44 am
PRIOR POST: she will just sit back and imagine the rest of her thoughts and puffed out her chest to show off her shirt. ‘I’ll just wear my shirt’.
RESPOSNE: sounds like a plan to me. : ) I like it.
October 21st, 2008 at 11:45 am
EH doesn’t answer questions or talk on point. She just continues to spew rhetoric. The hosts want to talk about Sarah Palin’s speech, EH will bash Obama. They want to talk about Biden, EH will bash Obama. They want to talk about a wingnut Republican who is out to hunt down ‘anti Americans’ and EH will bash Obama.
So this message is to the producers: Isn’t there anyone over there who is really in charge and who can see the dynamic is 3 hosts in discussion with one soapboxing? Make it stop. Get someone else and get rid of Elisabeth. Get someone as conservative as you like, because my (our?) objection isn’t partisan — it is about employing and modeling good communication skills.
October 21st, 2008 at 11:49 am
DonnaJ–
Lets clear this up…..
#29 I am not here to judge what choices BO makes in regards to his personal decisions. Whatever he chooses… I have made no mention whether I feel it is right or wrong that he steps away from campaigning for his personal family issue
#14IN FACT, I question why BO is pounding the pavement since his grandmother is ill
sounds VERY judgmental
First… you point out… #29You have just labled me “selfish” and you know absolutely zero about me and my personal life
then, in the same post, #29Roger, I like to think that a man that gave so much of himself as JM did for the rights of men and women who did not should have earned our gratitude. Like Sara Palins son, who is now fighting a war for you and me, and not sitting on a blog chatting with the girls.
What do u know about my personal life? What can u tell us about what I have or have not done? Enlighten us….. since u seem so pro war why havent u gone off and killed the enemy? just wonderin.
October 21st, 2008 at 11:54 am
“Thursday, when BO leaves to spend some time with his grandmother you can resume your judgement.”
Thanks for the permission. I’ll be sure check in with you before I form my next opinion, like Bitsy does with Sean Hannity.
Can someone please find a link to video or a statement from the McCain campaign wishing Obama’s grandmother well? I’m going to be looking, too.
October 21st, 2008 at 11:59 am
If they fired EH, then that would leave 4 democrats and 0 republicans. I agree that EH talks more than the other hosts, however she is speaking out on her views as a Republicans which account for (arguably) 50% of the population. And she is the only voice on that side of the ticket. She is not speaking 50% of the time and yet she represents 50% of that group.
The view should have recognized that the topics up to the elections would be very politically dictated. They should have allowed for a panel that was a little more equally diverse. Hmmmm Barbara, self serving?
By bringing in Whoopi and Sherri they are addressing the demographic in terms of race. Rightfully so. They missed the boat in regards to political views.
It must be exhausting for EH to be the sole person supporting the repubs.
And I beleive (once again), Joy drew first blood today with her (over used and always stale) comment in regards to Russia. She just cannot help herself.
October 21st, 2008 at 11:59 am
Careful poking that bear Rog – it’s obvious she hasn’t killed any small animals yet today.
I do believe someone is trying to paint you with a pink brush Roger. I think your blogging is part of the reason President Obama will take us in new directions…and I’m not alone:
The Internet and the Death of Rovian Politics
…. McCain is running a textbook Rovian race: fear-based, smear-based, anything goes. But it isn’t working. The glitch in the well-oiled machine? The Internet.
“We are witnessing the end of Rovian politics,” Eric Schmidt, CEO of Google told me. And YouTube, which Google bought in 2006 for $1.65 billion, is one of the causes of its demise.
Thanks to YouTube — and blogging and instant fact-checking and viral emails — it is getting harder and harder to get away with repeating brazen lies without paying a price, or to run under-the-radar smear campaigns without being exposed.

Barack Obama is a politician, that doesn’t mean everything he does is political. I think you have to be a cold and ruthless person to not just have a human kindness perspective on him taking time off to be with someone he loves who is ill. Attacks about that from people aren’t about Obama at all, they are a representation of the character of the person making the attack.
I cannot stand McCain, but if he took two days off to be with his potentially dying Grandma, I wouldn’t go there at all and I would question the character of anyone that did.

Petal # 37 - well said.
Anyone: what was the deal with EH”s T_shirt today ? Did you indeed’ design’ it ? I sw it, but couldnt exactly read it. ….” AmeriMcCain…” or something ? NOt really clever. Loved that no one acknowledged it.

Oh Roger,
I’m not cut out for war. But I absolutely admire and extend my utmost gratitude for every single soldier past and present that have risked thier lives so I get to live a life of freedom. I would never call anyone “a disgrace to his uniform or dishonorable” that sacrificed 5 years as a POW. But, you my fearless typist took aim and fired away.
In regards to my #14 comment, I’m surprised you didnt recognize the sarcasm in my comment, or did you just pull out specific words that would make yourself a case? Like I said before, whatever BO does in regards to his personal life is his decision to make. His personal issues dont dictate how the campaign is going to move forward.
October 21st, 2008 at 12:13 pm
I’m repeating myself, but it truly bears repeating that after eight years of tremendously hateful and divisive practices from the right that finally stirred up the left that the bullies now say, “Relax.” to the bullied.
Careful about poking this bear, too. I won’t start the attack, but I won’t shrink from it either. In the words of the “great” and “powerful” George W. Bush, “Bring it on.”
October 21st, 2008 at 12:18 pm
For a moment imagine what would have been said about Obama had he not taken time off to tend to his grandmother. The woman who raised him. The woman who you can tell by the photo’s clearly adored him as a child and grown up.
Well we don’t have to imagine, tell us DonnaJ and Ednagen, what criticisms would you have invoked?
That was absoulutely the right thing to do. As someone else refered to time off on the ranch clearing brush, let’s not forget how many days off the current president took off after he took office and let Cheney run the country till 9/11 happened and he had to assume the office.
October 21st, 2008 at 12:19 pm
#41 Kelly–
I think your blogging is part of the reason President Obama will take us in new directions
WOW…. thanks for putting me in that group. Ill be honest…. I dont want the election to be the end for us….. I want it to be the beginning.
I do believe someone is trying to paint you with a pink brush Roger.
I caught that too….It actually brought a tear to my eye when DonnaJ said…. And please dont “tee hee”, I find it really annoying coming from a “man”.
I really do hate annoying people…. hehehe
October 21st, 2008 at 12:26 pm
I have not seen the show yet today, but this is for people that think republicans are SO honorable. Convincing, and even brainwashing people that are not wealthy in this country to believe that they must take on the major tax burdens of this country in order for the rich and powerful to enjoy their riches and let what’s leftover to TRICKLE down to you is brilliant. I must say absolutely brilliant.
The problem with them now, and the reason they are shaking in their boots is because FINALLY, some people, and I just say some (hopefully enough on election day) are recognizing that this philosophy is abhorrently untrue. There is no such thing as entitled wealth, just as there is no such thing as entitled indigence. It is all coming to an end for them, they must come up with something else. Don’t get dumb on me either, I’m not saying successful people that built a corporation should not be successful. But they are not entitled to pay less taxes just because they have a corporation. Everyone should pay accordingly.
I may be just a working class commoner, but I’m the one they have to come to in order to fix the Wall St. debacle, why because of greed. My non-wealth is being distributed to all the corporations and banks that don’t like me, because I’m not a Hilton….wow, who woulda thought.
October 21st, 2008 at 12:31 pm
The republicans should take a page from Powell’s book. He decided to put his country before his party and vote for the best Person for the job.
What does it say about McCain if a fellow soldier and a man who has known him for almost 25 years, will vote for his opponent?
October 21st, 2008 at 12:32 pm
#45 DonnaJ–
do I have to correct everything that you say??
I would never call anyone “a disgrace to his uniform or dishonorable” that sacrificed 5 years as a POW. But, you my fearless typist took aim and fired away.
I never said McCain was dishonorable when he was a POW for 5 years. I said he is dishonorable NOW
Saying that someone that was a POW for 5 years means he could NEVER be dishonorable is very childish….. you cant justify your current wrong doings by bringing up the past.
I guess u agree with Sean Hannity when he said that it was ok for McCain to cheat on his first wife, because he was a POW.
how sad.

Every time I hear trickle down, I picture stickers in truck windows of the Calvin kid from the Calvin and Hobbes cartoon tinkling on a car logo. And every time I look at my financial situation I feel like I’m the logo.
Fear and ignorance are powerful motivators. Ask Dr. Frankenstein.
October 21st, 2008 at 12:40 pm
I just watched the hop topic video clips and it blows my mind how fast EH loses her temper during conversations. I would love to see a great debate with points from both sides but EH just wants to fight, fight, fight. She must be so excited Bil OReilly is on tomorrow.
October 21st, 2008 at 12:41 pm
I cannot speak for anyone else, but whatever choice BO made in terms of his family crisis is his own to make. I dont condemn his choice either way, but I question bloggers that feel his decisions should impact anyone elses campaign.
For the record Danielle, high income earners already pay far more taxes than lesser income earners. The “wall street debacle” impacts far more than the “working class commoner”. It also reaches further than the American borders.
As for “entitled wealth”. I never make excuses for how little or much I have. If a woman/black man/old man can run for president then everyone in this country can be accountable for thier own destiny.
October 21st, 2008 at 12:43 pm
Has Madonna ever been on the show? She certainly won’t be on again after they showed that awful picture of her. BW must be livid.
What’s that word that leaps to mind when thinking about da ditz? Unprofessional. She was unprofessional to wear a campaign t-shirt on a day they have celebrity guests. I’m surprised she didn’t bring in enough of them to give to the audience, but 1]that would have to come out of Bit’s or BGs wallet, and 2]too much of a risk that the audience would boo.
This show is self-imploding.
October 21st, 2008 at 12:47 pm
#53 Deborah..
Bill O’Reilly doesn’t care for Elisabeth. I regularly watch his show and he has had her on as a featured ‘pinhead’ of the day. (Those who are familiar with his show know this is his daily Pinheads and Patriots segment.)
The last time O’Reilly was on The View, he didn’t even pay much attention to her, he doesn’t take her seriously as a conservative voice.
October 21st, 2008 at 12:49 pm
Roger,
I never justify cheating husbands. McCain did a horrible think many years ago. He also admits that it is one thing that he is ashamed of. I admire that he is able to own his mistake and admit to it.
I dont care what you said and when, the man served hard time fighting for your ass. He will never ever be a disgrace to any uniform of someone serving his country. You may want to take the high road and say “I screwed up”.
October 21st, 2008 at 12:51 pm
“He was a decorated veteran of the United States Army, having served in the Gulf War, where he was awarded a Bronze Star. He had been a top scoring gunner with the 25mm cannon of the Bradley Fighting Vehicles used by the U.S. 1st Infantry Division to which he was assigned.”
Would you consider the above a war hero for his actions? It’s Timothy McVeigh.
Being a “hero” in the military does not give someone a lifetime pass on their conduct and behavior. McCain might have done heroic things, but he is not a hero right now, far from it.
October 21st, 2008 at 12:51 pm
For all of you people that dont like our tax structure, the more you make the higher your taxes, should really look at the “flat tax” the one that Jerry Brown made famous. The basic concept, the way I understand it,
Everyone pays the same tax percentage…. but you get rid of the loopholes…. u dump the tax breaks….you remove the tax shelters.
you make $50,000 a year you pay tax on $50,000…. you make $2 million….. you pay tax on $2 million.
This way no one pays a bigger share. As it is now…. businesses pay 35%….. but they are allowed to “write off” their losses and not pay taxes on the profits that = their losses. When they took a look at Sarah Palin’s tax returns…. it was reported that they paid 14% of their income in taxes, because the “First Dude” was able to deduct his business “losses”
October 21st, 2008 at 12:53 pm
Last time, really, and then I’m just done. If McCain was off to visit his sick mother, then I’d be disappointed in Obama continuing attacks, not a campaign, but attacks against McCain. It’s fair to assume that mature, level-headed, kind, normal humans can be compassionate to another human during a difficult time regardless of party affiliation or a political campaign. I expect kindness across the board from every human, not dependent on political party or color or gender or sexual orientation or ethnicity (am I forgetting anything? hair color, eye color, height, weight).

Yes, Madonna was on the show once before on 2006. It was a weird interview. I remember Madonna looked down at the floor or talked with her eyes closed whenever she spoke. Check out youtube to see her appearance, it’s there.

I dont care what you said and when, the man served hard time fighting for your ass. He will never ever be a disgrace to any uniform of someone serving his country. You may want to take the high road and say “I screwed up”
What was it that I said that I “screwed up” on?
When a military man becomes an officer he is an officer for life, not just when he is on active duty.
If u want to take an honest look at McCain’s military record…. it is filled with dishonorable activities. These activities were looked past because of who his father and grandfather was. Any other person that did these same things would have been removed from service.
When he was a POW he endured it with honor and heroism. He refused to go home, just like the other 600+ POWs refused. Although, he did say that he refused because he didnt want to dishonor his father.
Any time a military officer engages in dishonorable activities, he becomes a disgrace to his uniform.
October 21st, 2008 at 1:17 pm
Did anyone read the article in Rolling Stones about McCain’s honorable service? It seems it was anything but honorable.
October 21st, 2008 at 1:23 pm
# 37, Petal….Thanks so much, EH doesn’t know how to discuss, she just comes in with Hannity’s talking points, that he must tell her to get in for the day. She is a pawn that will be nobody after the election. As for Obama visiting his Grandma Toot, my Mom died last year and I know how he feels, wanting to be with her. I hope that she recovers and that he is able to enjoy he for many years to come! I would just like the campaigns to STOP the character assasinations, talk about what’s happening to this country, and have a modicum of respect for each other. This is something that the Republican party has had a hard time with for a really long time!
October 21st, 2008 at 1:27 pm
Thanks for that Ednaegan, and to your point…”enquiring minds want to know”. I believe The National Enquirer like to stir the facts in the same way.
Roger, enough of you, enjoy your freedom my little friend, it has come at a very high price.
October 21st, 2008 at 1:36 pm
Thanks Winnie, for the recap, I didn’t see the show.
All I want to say is… hi everyone, and I hope that you all have a nice afternoon and evening.
October 21st, 2008 at 1:39 pm
Thanks DonnaJ I will enjoy my freedom.
Just so it is clear….. I honor and support every person that has or will join our military. That does not mean that I will agree every time that the civilian leaders use our American Soldiers. When I believe that they are wrong I will speak out….. just as I wish the other side will speak out and hold everyone accountable.
It is a shame that George W Bush didnt respect my freedom as much as you have DonnaJ

#61 and #62
If it helps you can hear this in Whoopi’s Valley Girl voice…before and after the “after-thought” (Winnie’s term) mention of Barack Obama’s grandmother, Elisabeth Hasselbeck made the same attacks on Obama that she’s made before, including, “Joe Biden said Obama wasn’t ready” and “Obama changed his mind on public financing and is dishonest”. They should have addressed his grandmother first and steered clear of politics for a day. Notice I said “THEY”. But, “THEY” didn’t all make repetitive attacks on Obama like Elisabeth did. They started talking about Joe Biden’s comment about an international incident probably taking place after Obama is in office and Bitsy took the opportunity to tee off by saying Biden said Obama wasn’t ready to be president, which occurred during the primary when all of them say things to discredit each other.
After the mention of Obama’s grandmother the topic of Bachmann’s insinuation of anti-American senators came up and Bitsy steered it to public financing, saying that Obama was dishonest. The point of public financing is to limit large contributions from a few donors. The average contribution to Obama’s campaign is $86, while I’ve seen McCain’s average cited as near $350.
It was mentioned upthread that it would have been nice for Bitsy to take one day off in light of the situation, with which I agree. It would show class and dignity and human kindess and compassion, but I guess that’s too much to ask of her.
October 21st, 2008 at 1:45 pm
Bern, I think Elisabeth is getting desperate and doesn’t have time to take off for compassion. There are two weeks left and her team is behind and we know Elisabeth is all about the game and competition and she’ll do anything to win win win. I wouldn’t sweat it much, just fast forward mentally a few years when we know she’ll be on to the next Republican puppet and talking about how much she was against McCain and how she disagreed with his positions on policy.
October 21st, 2008 at 1:45 pm
Agreed. I can smell the desperacy.
October 21st, 2008 at 1:49 pm
#59-Thank you Roger from Ohio for clearing the tax policy up for DonnaJ-
I was trying to get a point across without actually having to break it down, but I guess that doesn’t work (sigh). Are there people that really don’t know what a tax shelter, and a tax loophole is? (sigh again)
And I know this financial crisis goes farther than the American borders, but guess what the US government is the one asking for help. Say what you will, trickle down is a farce, and nobody will ever get me to believe otherwise.
October 21st, 2008 at 1:55 pm

May I ask one question? Where was the sympathy for Cindy McCain’s half sister that passed away less than two weeks ago from the Obama campaign? And then the NY Times less than two weeks after her loss did a smear job of Cindy McCain in the worst way? I thought one time Families, per BO, were off limits, but I guess that only goes for his family…If they had done that to MO, we would never hear the end of it. But Palin’s family have been smeared through the mud and there is no sympathy there. When jokes about TP being accused of incest with his daughters was an outrage or about BP aborting her baby was not even a topic of disgrace on THE ONE-SIDED VIEW, or a blog topic. Let’s just be fair here….
October 21st, 2008 at 3:13 pm
How about Biden? I wonder what they say to him behind close doors?
October 21st, 2008 at 3:15 pm

October 21st, 2008 at 3:23 pm
Rainlillie,
Did you not notice that the “lovely” Joy was already taking her first shot not five minutes into the show.
The ladies all discuss the topics before the show begins. They follow a format. So do you think that perhaps Joy should have refrained from the usual jabs or is it just the lone Repub that has to refrain? She was aware of the illness. Is she not accountable, or is it that you agree with her points and that makes it alright.
Danielle and Roger, you understand that people that own corporations pay both personal and corporate taxes right? They employ Americans and keep the economy running? How many people are you supporting on your payroll? When we talk to spreading the wealth, perhaps spreading the risk should be included.

I didnt hear about it…. maybe they kept it private
I will send my condolences to Cindy McCain for the loss of her sister.
Thanks for informing us Pat.

It was on FOX NEWS…but not MSM because they don’t report anything about Repubs that would be favorable to their campaign
October 21st, 2008 at 3:36 pm
Roger # 82. It may have been the sister that Cindy didn’t acknowledge, which is why it wasn’t reported. Cindy claims to be an only child, but it was revealed that she has half siblings.

Cindy has a sister? I thought she said she was an only child? The Republicans think her death would be favorable to their campaign?
??
#76 rain: There’s a civil war erupting on the right, and Colin Powell is caught in the crossfire.
The split has been deepening for months as some of the nation’s top conservative commentators have soured on John McCain’s campaign and ridiculed the notion of Sarah Palin as qualified for the heartbeat-away job. The high-profile dissidents now include, to varying degrees, David Brooks, Peggy Noonan, George Will, David Frum, Kathleen Parker and Christopher Buckley.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/10/21/AR2008102100572.html
Christopher Buckley, scion of the late conservative thinker William F. Buckley, has left the National Review, the magazine his father founded, after writing this week that he is supporting Barack Obama.

I just checked the sister who passed away isn’t the one that Cindy won’t acknowledge.
October 21st, 2008 at 3:41 pm

I think more moderate Republicans are going to come forward. Powell may have opened the door for them.

#81 DonnaJ–
Danielle and Roger, you understand that people that own corporations pay both personal and corporate taxes right? They employ Americans and keep the economy running?
That really is a good theory. The reality of it is we give those corporations large tax breaks and subsidies. They take that extra money and build offices and factories overseas and south of the boarder.
When they deploy their “golden parachute” do u really think they pay taxes on the full $85 -$100 million salary/bonus??
#81 When we talk to spreading the wealth, perhaps spreading the risk should be included.
That is another good theory. In reality what happens is….. when risk is successful business scream….LOWER OUR TAXES!!….when the risk fails business scream…. WHERE IS OUR HAND OUT.
This doenst work for American people

Yes there are. The first thing that comes to mind is when he sided with Bush on the warrant less wiretapping bill. Obama voted to give phone companies retroactive immunity. It was very disappointing.
I will say that even though he sided with the war criminals, that shouldnt keep him from being our next POTUS
October 21st, 2008 at 4:00 pm

Wow, what a B….!

I’ll definitely share your vast knowledge of the tax system regarding corporations (and of coarse the American people) with my husband this evening. I’m sure he’ll love the education.
You kill me!

October 21st, 2008 at 4:05 pm
Thats it? Surely you have something more.
October 21st, 2008 at 4:08 pm
Nice try pat – This is the same dumb misleading poll that you posted four days ago from a Military-funded magazine called Military Times: The non-scientific survey gathered 4,300 respondents. The troops polled were also somewhat older than average enlisted servicemembers and included more officers than is representative of the military as a whole.
They removed this disclaimer:
The results of the Military Times 2008 Election Poll are not representative of the opinions of the military as a whole. The group surveyed is older, more senior in rank and less ethnically diverse than the overall armed services.
It should also be noted that military personnel believe a Republican vote will translate into a 1 to 2% pay raise. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080828043547AAsXli8

Troops Overwhelmingly Back McCain/Palin
October 18, 2008 by PUMA Pundit
As to be expected, the MSM is completely silent on the results of this poll. It would have been a major surprise to me if the people who proudly wear our country’s uniform would knowingly support a foreign citizen as their commander in chief:
Sen. John McCain enjoys overwhelming support from the military’s professional core, a Military Times survey of nearly 4,300 readers, indicates, though career-oriented black service members strongly favored the Democratic Party candidate.
McCain, R-Ariz., handily defeated Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., 68 percent to 23 percent in a voluntary survey of 4,293 active-duty, National Guard and reserve subscribers and former subscribers to Army Times, Navy Times, Marine Corps Times and Air Force Times.
The results suggest Democrats have gained little ground in their attempts to significantly chip away at a traditionally Republican voting bloc in campaign messages and legislative initiatives, such as the recent expansion of GI Bill benefits, experts said.
October 21st, 2008 at 4:23 pm
“Where was the sympathy for Cindy McCain’s half sister that passed away less than two weeks ago from the Obama campaign?”
Didn’t hear about it, but perhaps it’s because Cindy McCain considers herself an only child and any mention to the contrary would then be considered as an attempt to call her a liar. Is that what you mean about the news not being “favorable” to the campaign? Because that statement was confusing.
I did read the New York Times article. There was nothing in it that hasn’t already been reported. It does seem unkind to publish it so close to the death of her sister. No argument there. I will add this part of the story, though, a statement from Cindy McCain said, “I am hopeful that my family’s privacy will be respected at this time.”
I already addressed that all of the hosts of the show should have taken a day off of politics and discussed Obama’s grandmother right away to explain why.
October 21st, 2008 at 4:25 pm
One more quote about Cindy McCain’s sister’s death,
“And one of the things she (Cindy McCain) tried to avoid was having my mom under scrutiny of the press when the story broke about Kathy. She did everything she could to keep the press off my mom as she was going into hospice.”
I give Mrs. McCain credit for trying to keep it from the press and it’s obvious that for the most part, she accomplished that.
October 21st, 2008 at 4:29 pm
Wrong again Kelly..this is active-duty..not retired old men like you are trying to say..and this poll is a recent poll…I think your abc poll of the 60 count (who 54 was for MCCAIN) was back in April???
October 21st, 2008 at 4:30 pm
http://www.puma08.com/2008/10/18/troops-overwhelmingly-back-mccainpalin/
October 21st, 2008 at 4:39 pm
“former subscribers to Army Times, Navy Times, Marine Corps Times and Air Force Times.”
Kelly, does this say Military Times????? You don’t read anything that would prove you wrong. AND IT SAYS ACTIVE MILITARY
why on earth would the active military want bo as their commander in chief at a time like this????
October 21st, 2008 at 4:41 pm
Joy mentioned that because Joe Biden said “Obama is not ready to be commander in chief” in the primaries, we should “toss it out”, was an interesting statment. Does that mean anything the politicians said or stood for before before a specific date was all lies? Was Joe willing to tell a lie in regards to Obamas credibility just to give Hilary an advantage OR was Joe being honest and truly stands by his comment?
With that being said, I wonder why BO chose a running mate that expressed he didnt believe in him as a viable candidate. I know that many people have second guessed JM’s choice of a running mate, but what about the big BO Problem?
October 21st, 2008 at 4:43 pm
Something that hasn’t been answered is… McCain keeps saying “he knows how to win wars,” what wars has he won?
Powell seems think that Obama will make a better president than McCain… nothing left to say there.
October 21st, 2008 at 4:45 pm
Right DonnaJ..well said. Just like Hillary said that BO’s past relations with Ayres was very important in this election. But of course Joy would toss all that out. As long as it fits her opinion.
October 21st, 2008 at 4:47 pm
Then why does Biden think BO will be tested then in the next 6 months??? Because BO is weak!!! That’s a very scary thought for us Americans who may be facing another attack on us.
October 21st, 2008 at 4:49 pm
Hey Rain,
Excellent question…and on that topic, I guess I would have to say at least he’s fought in one. How many wars has BO won? fought in? supported winning?
Colin Powell is entitled to his view for whatever his reasons may be. At the end of the day, lets hope he lends his wealth of knowledge to whoever is voted in as the next president.
October 21st, 2008 at 4:50 pm
You betcha Kelly,
The Klumps are back again.
October 21st, 2008 at 4:57 pm
Hey Pat,
So I wonder why Hilary no longer feels concerned about the Ayers issue?…or does she?
October 21st, 2008 at 4:59 pm
Roger:
Notice DonnaJ could not give you a real answer regarding the taxes, why do people think we should lay down to big corporations. They are not hurting at all,( well they are now due to this word DonnaJ avoids, greed) but I need to pay more and more taxes, as my wage goes down because of health care insurance, and everything else. Where the hell is my loophole?
But I’m not to open my mouth, I’m just a poor peasant in America that has worked all my life, the only problem is I’m not a Trump family member. I needs to just keep my mouth shut and stay on the plantation. LOL
October 21st, 2008 at 5:00 pm
Joy is right people say all kinds of stuff when they are running against each other.
“SWEETWATER, FLA. — After predicting a Florida victory in front of a raucous, heavily Latino crowd, Mitt Romney told members of the media that John McCain’s interpretation of Romney’s past remarks on Iraq timetables were “obviously false” and “yesterday’s news.” The former Massachusetts governor then changed the subject by rehashing some of McCain’s past comments, which seemed to disparage the Arizona senator’s own understanding of economic policy.
“I simply don’t think that the people of Florida are gonna say the nominee of our party ought to be a person who on more than one occasion has expressed lack of understanding of our economy at a time when the economy is the number one issue that people are talking about here in the state of Florida,” Romney said.”

I have to say this, old Mitten was right about McCain’s lack of understanding.

um if mcccain had pick one of his primary canidates for vp would you hold the claims they made about each other agianst them? ( biden was not saying anything other than what the american people have been say th enext president will be test/face great challenges and biden asnwer it obama ready would be yes) and while vp dont always have ot agree or love each other ( kerry endorsed obama ovefr his vp pick) Palin has openly disagreed with mccain on the stump and said she had nothing to loss. and frankly she is a much bigger liablilty to mccain than biden is to obama. i mean she does not get what I learned in 5th grade the the president and vp are part of the exective branch and sentate is legislative . she seems to think a vp can make laws with the senate beyond just a castign a ty breaking vote. basically she does not kwon what a vp does. she is mcains biggest issue. sad face.

Danielle,
Wow, in this day and age you feel that you cannot lift yourself up and accomplish something more than being “a poor peasant working on a plantation”.
You should take a good hard look at BO. He’s done fantastic for himself, by hard work and an exceptional education.
If BO does get voted in I beleive that the message he will send to everyone (black/white/yellow/male/female/gay/straight etc) in America is that what you accomplish is up to you. No more whining about what little you have, and instead … what can be accomplished by hard work!
October 21st, 2008 at 5:08 pm
WRONG PAT – everything that you type. I never said retired. This old poll is just a desperate attempt by FOX to confuse people like you.
You’re the one not reading your crap post. You can apologize after you read it.
Everyone: PAT HAS NO IDEA WHAT PAT IS SAYING. THAT POLL IS BIASED – and misleading since FOX got a hold of it…I have read it over and over, at every link you have provided.
See my post above #97. It applies to anything pat says about the military poll.
It’s all the same poll cited by difference media, comparing different armed services.
FOX News: “A poll by the Military Times newspaper…”
PUMA: “…subscribers to Army Times, Navy Times, Marine Corps Times and Air Force Times” Which are ALL produced by Military Times.
DUH@@@@@@@@@@
pat -you are unreal. Such a waste of my time – stop spreading your lies.
The military has sent donations to Obama’s campaign 6 times over McCain because McCain is a lunatic and they know it. He will Bomb Bomb Bomb Iran, keep them in Iraq for 100 years trying to win his Vietnam war that he lost 40 years ago.
I will call you out every time you lie. We’re not taking Republican LIES anymore.

It is NOT true that this guy is somehow related to THE Charles Keating of the Keating 5….better check your facts before you post rubbish and gossip. You’ll look like one of the childhood “gossip game” participants.

This is why Palin doesn’t give interviews. Every time she gives one she just comes off worse than the last time. Which explains why she’ll go on SNL and make time for that, but not Meet the Press.
October 21st, 2008 at 5:28 pm
WRONG pat – when did I ever say retired? FOX is about as ‘balanced’ as you are.
Many sites claim Joe the Plumber is related to Robert W.– Charles Keating…
Wurzelbacher told the CBS Morning News that he feels like he’s being “used by the Republican Party as a pawn to make their point.”

#100 Pat–
As to be expected, the MSM is completely silent on the results of this poll. It would have been a major surprise to me if the people who proudly wear our country’s uniform would knowingly support a foreign citizen as their commander in chief:
Obama was born in Hawaii in 1961…. Hawaii became a state in 1959
McCain was born in Panama…. it still isnt a state….. Maybe you are right… thats why Obama is leading when the “troops” are polled.
McCain, R-Ariz., handily defeated Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., 68 percent to 23 percent in a voluntary survey of 4,293 active-duty, National Guard and reserve subscribers and former subscribers to Army Times, Navy Times, Marine Corps Times and Air Force Times.
There are 2 problems with this poll that you site…..first, all polls can be fixed to get the result that is wanted. second, it was not a random poll…… it is just like a Fox News poll…… they say that 87% believe that McCain is gonna win…….. is that poll correct too?
October 21st, 2008 at 5:33 pm
Biden didn’t think Obama had the foreign policy experience record that Biden himself enjoys. So Obama picked Biden as his VP – problem solved.
October 21st, 2008 at 5:35 pm
After the debates, the vast majority of MSM polls all said Obama won by a landslide, but if you went to Fox or Drudge Report it was a whole different story. There are very few polls I trust the results of.

Where have you been if you think that FAUX news is the the only fair network….you need to stop drinking the Kool Aid…….Everyone knows that Fox news is bias why do yo think EH fits in so well there?
October 21st, 2008 at 5:46 pm
OMG.. did I just read that Fox news is the only balanced news media??? That is the MOST unbalanced thing I read here all day. One of many unbalanced useless rhetoric from the trolls…
hmmmm… I think I remember Fox news reported that they found WMD’s early on in the war..
I’m just saying…….
October 21st, 2008 at 5:49 pm
I’m trying to make a point DONNAJ about the tax policy being in favor towards corporations to the extreme that they get away with complete and absolute greed. But you don’t get it.
I have a college education DonnaJ I’m a paralegal and work for my county with the prosecutors office. I like my job. I don’t care that I’m not rich- I don’t worship money, but I don’t like when the rich and powerful take advantage. It’s the principle DonnaJ. And another thing I didn’t say anything about anybody’s skin color or whether they are female or male, I’m talking about being greedy, it’s a sin too, you know.
Thank God that at least some people have not ignored why Wall St. happened. I guess you think golden parachutes are cool. Whatever.
October 21st, 2008 at 5:49 pm
I KNOW! FOX news fair and balanced? LOL
WTF
When Palin was just wolf-cub killing Governor, she wouldn’t endorse McCain saying their was nothing exciting on the Republican ticket. She only endorsed McCain after he proposed to her after 3-days of speed dating.
October 21st, 2008 at 5:55 pm
the bickering that goes on here is just small scale what is going on across this country, this huge division. This election is depressing me, to see how ugly and ignorant people can be. Today there was a bear shot in the head in N.C. I think it was and it was found dead with an Obama sign on it. There are sick people in this country and right now they are being led by McCain and Palin. I don’t say that as a party, I say that as a person. The hate they are promoting is pathetic and so is the media for not actively calling them on it. It’s absolutely insane.
October 21st, 2008 at 5:57 pm
I can’t believe all the trash talk about Joe, who really cares who Joe is, if he’s divorced, owes taxes, what his parents did… Do you think he methodically planned his meeting with Obama just so he could set him up because he knew Obama would say “spread the wealth”. “a relative of Keating” really? What relative? a cousin, brother, distant cousin? Don’t you think that it would be all over the news, even Fox would have to laugh at the irony of that.
October 21st, 2008 at 5:58 pm
WELL BUYING AN ELECTION AND STEALING VOTES IS ONE HECK OF AWAY TO WIN AN ELECTION.

Aileen,
LOL!
October 21st, 2008 at 6:00 pm
OMG, I can’t stand it!!!All of you repub bloggers get off on these ‘who cares’ topics to avoid talking about the real issues. Spreading the wealth? Who’s wealth? Not mine or the 90% of the people that will get the tax break! The tax break that Bush gave the wealthy in 2002, the one that McCain OPPOSED until he was running for pres. and wanted to get the far right backing, will be rescinded back to the same tax level the wealthy were getting in the Clinton years, when our economy was just fine. I heard McCain say that this tax break for the wealthy will help create new jobs. Gee, unemployment has been going up steadily for the last 5 years, 700,000 newly unemployed just in 2008. I guess it isn’t working, huh? Why would we keep trying it and give it a chance for at least 4 more years. Can somone please explain this?
October 21st, 2008 at 6:02 pm
And FOX has Rebecca. It just goes to show, you don’t dare ask BO a question, because if you question him, the media goes after you and digs up everything you have done from grade school and up…rather they are lies or what
October 21st, 2008 at 6:03 pm
ShannonP- there are extreme people on both sides. They couldn’t possibly scold everyone that does or says something stupid. Just like Obama can’t he held responsible for the Acorn Fraud.
October 21st, 2008 at 6:04 pm
#31 Shannon P.
I was so upset when I heard about the bear with the Obama signs….it is terrible what is happening and it needs to stop…there are still alot of ignorant and racist people out there whose feelings are being stirred up by the RNC and they are encouraging this based on their “patriotism, country first,& pro America” agenda. If they wanted to put Country First they would stop this horrible negative campaigning!
October 21st, 2008 at 6:05 pm
Pat- I must have missed this day of reporting what did Fox say about this Keating connection?
October 21st, 2008 at 6:07 pm
ShannonP ,
I haven’t heard about the bear. How horrible! I do agree that McCain and Palin are spreading hate.
October 21st, 2008 at 6:07 pm
We aren’t talking about isolated incidents, this is happening in MANY McCain and Palin rallies. It’s being buried under the rug because MSM is allowing it to be. If people were doing this to Palin or McCain, it would be front page breaking news all the time. Not for Obama though. I think it’s racism in itself not to cover it.
October 21st, 2008 at 6:08 pm
Bickering is a good word for what goes on here, Im sorry to say.
I dont like bickering but I cant stop myself. When people accuse me of things I feel the need to defend myself. When people try to use misinformation to add to their arguement, I feel the need to correct. I dont mind being corrected myself, as long as I can rebut.
October 21st, 2008 at 6:10 pm
No, I think MSM is not reporting on it because they know the same kinds of things are being said at the Obama rallies.
October 21st, 2008 at 6:10 pm
OH, AND WHEN DID THE T-SHIRTS EVER GET DISCUSSED ON THIS SITE WHERE THEY CALL SARAH P THE “C” WORD???? YES…YOU DON’T GO THERE…JUST TALK BEARS….(LIONS, TIGERS AND BEARS…OH MY)
October 21st, 2008 at 6:11 pm
It was a bear CUB - nice.
The Keating 5 connection isn’t in MSM for the same reason Palin’s affair isn’t mentioned.
Republicans have been stealing elections for years (even though Coulter says it’s the Dems). McCain’s campaign is Pot/Kettle politics: I’ll do the crime, you do the time.
Republicans, who have taken great pains to tamper with the voting process (Virginia recently announced early-voters had their Obama votes switched to McCain), are now focusing their attention on removing free-speech from the Internet.
I hope President Obama appoints Robert Kennedy to champion voting reform by fixing the rolls, eliminating unconstitutional state laws prohibiting lower income voters their rights, banning Diebold/Premier voting machines, and protecting freedom of speech on the internet!!!!!!
This is a great BBC report on the Theft of the 2008 Election: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YinIF6L4Y9Y

When you say that your fellow American is “palling around with terrorists,” what the heck kind of reaction do you expect to get?
This really scares me and I fear that someone is going to get hurt, before all of this over.
October 21st, 2008 at 6:12 pm
So right Rebecca…MSM seldom reports anything unless it smears the MCCAIN camp. They are so in the tank with BO
October 21st, 2008 at 6:13 pm
Roger- I love a good debate, I don’t consider it bickering. Now when you start calling other’s names just because they have a different view.. well that’s different.
October 21st, 2008 at 6:15 pm
Kelly- Palins affair?? Do tell- haven’t heard.
October 21st, 2008 at 6:15 pm

It is perfectly fine to have a heated discussion where each side can present their views…but sometimes you have to let it go when you realize that the other party is unable to listen to opposing views and receive their information from one source(FAUX news) and truly believe it to be gospel!

FOX is not number one, or two, or three…
Tough prime-time weeks for NBC, Fox
By DAVID BAUDER – 47 minutes ago
NEW YORK (AP) — CBS is continuing its strong start to the new television season, but for NBC and Fox, last week was one to forget.
CBS was the only one of the top five networks with more prime-time viewers last week than it had for the same week a year before. Ten of the nation’s 20 most-watched prime-time shows were on CBS, according to Nielsen Media Research.
NBC’s “Nightly News” led with 7.8 million viewers to ABC’s “World News’” 7.6 million (both 5.3 ratings, 11 shares) in the evening news competition. The “CBS Evening News” had 5.9 million viewers (4, 8).
NO FOX?????????????

Roger- I wasn’t talking about you, sorry, I meant anyone who is on this blog.
October 21st, 2008 at 6:29 pm
The one thing that makes this country so great is our ability to have conversations like this. We often forget that Freedom of Speech is one of our greatest treasures. I truly enjoy reading the different views that are type here. Each of us have our own opinions that may or maynot be swayed by others. We live in the greatest of countries where voting is a privilege granted to us by the blood sweat and tears or others. So if you vote for Obama/Biden or McCain/Palin the most important thing is that you go out and vote. Encourage others to vote, give rides to people so thay can vote. Call your local representives and see if you can help get poeple to and from election points to vote. Just dont forget to VOTE on election date. It is your Right, your Freedom, and your patriot Duty to Vote.
Thank you
October 21st, 2008 at 6:29 pm
I think last week CBS, ABC, and then Fox with 8million.

October 21st, 2008 at 6:30 pm
For the record, Sara did an interview today on CNN.
The bear incident is sick! BUT on the note of “nutjobs”, Did anyone see the “democratic nut job” in Virginia who was asking people to vote BO primarily because he is black and McCain is white. They must have let a whole lot of these guys out.
Now I dont believe that BO asked this guy to go out and do this, and I also dont believe JM asked someone to go out and shoot a bearcub.
By the way, BO will be raising EVERYONES taxes. The usual freeloaders with no education or jobs will continue to need to be carried by all income levels. They will be the ones that will continue to get a freelunch on BO’s program.
Be careful how you vote!
October 21st, 2008 at 6:30 pm
Dyhanne- I agree. Thank you.
October 21st, 2008 at 6:34 pm
I am just as disappointed with the people who are voting for Obama because he is black as I am for the people who don’t vote for him because he is black.
October 21st, 2008 at 6:37 pm
Have you gals/guys heard about this field trip that these kids went to the court house to witness a gay marriage. What do you think?

#129 Danielle,
I’m glad to hear that you’re self sufficient and educated. Why would you want to pass yourself off as a plantation worker? You make a stronger point with your achievements.
I never make excuses for my accomplishments. I’m proud of them. I also like to set a good example for my boys.
October 21st, 2008 at 6:43 pm
159 Dyhanne–
excellent post!
It goes further than that though. Once the people get in office, continue to be in contact with them…. let them know when they are voting correctly…. let them know when they are voting incorrectly….. let them know how u want them to vote.
One of the biggest things that I have discovered is this….. even though I am a Democrat, the Republicans that are in my district are representing me. When they vote against me, I feel the need to let them know.
When the Democrats in office are voting against me, I let them know as well.
We had our House or Representative congressman die while in office……. during the special election to replace him, I found this quote from Paul Gilmore… I dont care what Democrats want, they are not my constituents.
Meaning…. he doesnt represent Democrats because he was a Republican.
October 21st, 2008 at 6:43 pm
Kelly,
I have to disagree Faux News is #2.
October 21st, 2008 at 6:43 pm
Rebecca…wasn’t that ad terrible, using young girls to talk about rape and abortion? But that won’t be discussed either, since it is an ad against Sarah. And all the lies about banning books, which has been proven that Sarah banned no books. Lies…Lies…Lies…
YES AND EVERYONE VOTE…BUT PLEASE…ONLY ONCE.

#165 Rebecca–
Have you gals/guys heard about this field trip that these kids went to the court house to witness a gay marriage. What do you think?
I think that they shouldnt have gone. No wedding should be a field trip.
I do believe that gay people should be able to marry. There is no reason why ONLY straight people are allowed to go thru the self torture that we call marriage.

Pat, Dude, you gotta chill out. Everytime I read your posts I get a bit of spittle on my face. Please do report all your facts since you have that right, but all your CAPS and yelling does not prove your point. You just seem so angry.
Peeps post opposing views here all the time, but how you communicate it, is where you may catch more flies with honey…
I’m just saying….
October 21st, 2008 at 7:11 pm
Roger- I thought it very interresting that neither camps support gay marriage.
October 21st, 2008 at 7:21 pm
Rog - OMG - my hubby and I had a good laugh over That One. Then I had to hear about the Eagle story (headfeathers and such). He’s a hunter and fisherman like Todd.
Was that the Trooper Brother-in-Law in the desk? That was so funny!!!!!
Please check out my BBC Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YinIF6L4Y9Y
October 21st, 2008 at 7:22 pm
sorry about the caps…it’s not that I’m yelling..it’s a bad habit of mine because my accounting software is all done in caps, and I just always leave the caps on lock…but believe me, I’m not yelling and not angry at all. Just like to be fair on both sides. I know FOX NEWS is not a popular network here, but they do put both sides on and let them both talk so a person can think and make up their own mind….I feel like MSNBC does not give its viewers that option. Fairness is so important to me, and I hate to see so much garbage from both sides. There has been so much on the internet, that you don’t know what to believe anymore….
October 21st, 2008 at 7:50 pm
Pat- using caps is the very least of the statements that have been said or implied on this blog.
October 21st, 2008 at 7:51 pm
Roger- funny… she looks good behind that desk, don’t cha think?
October 21st, 2008 at 8:02 pm
PRIOR POST: Roger- I thought it very interresting that neither camps support gay marriage.
RESPOSNE: As I understand it, Biden (and Obama) are willing and support gays having all the rights of marriage, just calling it something else. I beleive Palin, on the other hand, doesn’t believe in giving the rights to gays.
As for me, I think they ought to make marriage a religious ceremony and they can do what they wantd (I may not approve, but separation of church and state and all). The government can give everyone some kind of annnointing of a civil committment that comes with all the rights and responsibilities that are currently attributed to marriage.
THen we don’t argue “what’s in a name.” Of course, I realize this won’t happen soon, if ever.
October 21st, 2008 at 8:12 pm
It is my opinion that there’s a difference between advocating for a constitutional amendment that takes away rights, instead of providing rights, and having a belief that gay marriage is wrong.
In other words, whether Obama is against gay marriage (which I think is just political posturing) his platform doesn’t include stripping rights away nor will his administration actively seek to tear apart gay families.
October 21st, 2008 at 8:15 pm
Lajet- Both sides believe in gay rights but neither side supports gay marriage.
October 21st, 2008 at 8:19 pm
Neither sides believe that the meaning of the word “Marriage” should be changed. They both believe that partners should have the same civil rights as a spouse.
October 21st, 2008 at 8:23 pm
Lopez- You think Obama secretly supports gay marriage?
October 21st, 2008 at 8:47 pm
Let everyone get married……. then we all can be miserable LOL
I love comics
What freaks me out is people that say their marriage would become less if gay people would be allowed to get married too.
that seems like apples and oranges…… unless you are afraid either you or your spouse is secretly gay. Or maybe you would think that you cant be as close to your best friend if there is a possibility that the 2 of you can get married….. OMG….. just imagine all the different arguments that could be had.
October 21st, 2008 at 8:53 pm
Roger- I really don’t get it. what is the arguement for not supporting a marriage between two people, could it be that if you change the meaning of marriage-a union between one man and one woman, then you could argue- why just one man or just one woman… I don’t know.
October 21st, 2008 at 8:54 pm
How about this argument…. This was real…. a discussion that I had with a republican.
I asked why they were against gay marriage. They said because people of the same sex shouldnt have sex. It is a sin ya know.
So in their way of thinking, if they dont get married they cant have sex.
I asked a follow-up. If a gay couple were married and have sex….. would that be a sin? Yes it would, and thats why they shouldnt be married.
Insanity. I dont blame the Republicans for that….. I blame the church.
October 21st, 2008 at 8:58 pm
#192 Rebecca–
Honestly….. I believe that if they change the definition of marriage, the church would have less power. That would be one less group of THEM that could be used to “teach” us how not to act.
October 21st, 2008 at 9:08 pm
Roger- this is a religion issue for sure, not a republican/democrat issue.
October 21st, 2008 at 9:11 pm
Roger- Do you think there is anything Obama/Biden ticket could do or say to change this race?
October 21st, 2008 at 9:13 pm
Rebecca,
Yes, I do believe that Obama supports gay marriage. Obviously I don’t have proof. It’s just my opinion.
October 21st, 2008 at 9:13 pm
#143 Pat–
I just watched Newt on Billo….I hardly ever miss a show…. got to keep your eye on the enemy.
I know I didnt watch with your spin pat….What Newt was saying to me is this….. McCain can win if we spread fear and hate.
It was a “pinhead” interview.
October 21st, 2008 at 9:15 pm

Capable people? No. What they did have was George Bush’ cousin make the announcement after George Bush’ brother, the governor of Florida, gave the go ahead.
October 21st, 2008 at 9:20 pm
Roger- What would be a deal breaker for you?
October 21st, 2008 at 9:23 pm
Lopez- according to Biden he does not, sorry. He flatout said he nor Barack supports gay marriage.
October 21st, 2008 at 9:25 pm
No need to apologize, Rebecca. I know what the Obama platform states on the record. I just don’t happen to believe them.
October 21st, 2008 at 9:28 pm
So you think he would lie to further is political career?
October 21st, 2008 at 9:36 pm
I think he did lie to further his political career. There is a time and place for everything. It doesn’t make sense for him to lose an election over gay marriage.
This doesn’t mean that I think once he is in office he will work towards making gay marriage legal. However, I don’t believe he will take active measures to suppress their civil rights.
October 21st, 2008 at 9:39 pm
Lopez- do you think McCain/Palin would?
October 21st, 2008 at 9:41 pm
Rebecca,
I liken his position on gay marriage to those who are pro-choice for others but not for themselves.
He may personally believe gay marriage is between a man and a woman, but his personal belief won’t interfere making gay marriage legal. That is what I mean when I say that he supports gay marriage.
October 21st, 2008 at 9:45 pm
Palin stated on the record that she would and the Alaskan constitution states marriage is between a man and a woman.
The old Mccain wouldn’t entertain the notion of stripping away an American’s rights. As far as candidate McCain, I’m not so sure.

#202 Rebecca–
Very good question. Thanks for asking it.
As of now, I dont think there is a deal breaker. Actually, there was one point that cemented my decision.
I was a Hillary supporter and after it was “foreseen” that Obama would be the nominee, I had to make my decision, Obama… McCain… or Stay home.
I remembered back before the primaries began, McCain changing his mind on the torture issue. He was adamant that torture was wrong…. then Bush had a talk with him and he sold out and change his views. His final ideas on torture was something like this….. The armed services can not use torture. It is in the Army Service Manual. Where he sold out was…. The CIA do not have to abide by the “ASM” so they are allowed to use “Enhanced Interrogation Techniques”
When that was all made public I knew that McCain couldnt be trusted. Mitt Romney would have been the Republicans best choice. I think the church people would have plugged their noses and still voted for him.
October 21st, 2008 at 9:47 pm
Like McCain/Palin position on abortion- they are pro-life but would not impose that on others.
October 21st, 2008 at 9:51 pm
That isn’t true, Rebecca. The McCain platform plainly states that R v W needs to be overturned.
October 21st, 2008 at 9:52 pm
Roger- My understanding is that McCain is against torture. He has said this several times. Now maybe there is question on what is torture?
October 21st, 2008 at 9:53 pm
Lopez- they simply believe (like gay marriage) that the decision should rest upon the state.
October 21st, 2008 at 10:00 pm
213 Rebeca–
Now maybe there is question on what is torture?
McCain was tortured….. how can he now question what is or isnt torture?
The biggest “public” argument about torture is waterboarding. After WWII, America convicted and executed Japanese guards that engaged in waterboarding….. If it was torture when they did it, it is still torture when we did it. (with presidential approval, which makes Bush a war criminal).

Rebecca–
Have u decided on who u will vote for??
If u have…. what would be a deal breaker for you?
October 21st, 2008 at 10:04 pm
Rebecca,
Palin supports a federal gay marriage ban. McCain believes it is a state issues.
In terms of R v W McCain’s position is that it is a states issue. That’s is another way of saying he’s anti-choice. This is because the constitutional right to a woman’s privacy shouldn’t be adminstered at a local level.

Roger-
Great question, I’m glad you asked.
I believe we need a change in the white house but not in the fundamental beliefs that this country is based on. I don’t want that to change. When I started researching both sides and found that Obama wanted to nationaize healthcare, socialize our government by accomplishing a classless society, “spreading the wealth”, also strict gun control beliefs. This is BIG government, Big Brothers Watching.
I like where I live and I’ve been at the bottom and I am now in the middle and maybe someday I will be closer to the top. We have fought too hard to have the freedoms we have today and then just to give it away to the government. No thank you.
October 21st, 2008 at 10:43 pm
Lopez- McCain is pro-life, we know this, he has made it clear that he believes that the state not the federal government should make these types of decisions. It would be the same as gay marriage, left up to the state not the federal government.
October 21st, 2008 at 10:54 pm
Rebecca,
I want to jump in here for a moment.
“nationaize healthcare”
That is false.
“socialize our government by accomplishing a classless society”
If this is your interpretation of his position, fine. But it is stated as a fact so I want to clarify that isn’t the case.
“strict gun control”
I’m curious to know his exact position on gun control that you question.
“This is BIG government, Big Brothers”
Take the time to research history. You will quickly learn that both parties increase the level of participation of the federal government. The Republican party stance against “big government” is a myth. And according to a John Stossel report (he’s a libertian), the Republicans increase government as a faster pace than democrats.
Frankly, I don’t believe that people who use the term “big government” actually understand what the term means.
Which leads me to “big brother” I’m not sure why you mentioned it. None of the points you touched upon fall under the umbrella of “big brother.”

Rebecca, I don’t understand the purpose of post #221. Your statements don’t contradict mine.
October 21st, 2008 at 11:02 pm
Thanks for telling us what u are for instead of what u are against. I will honestly tell you that we disagree on what your points are. Ill share with you mine.
nationalize health care — as it was said in the 2nd debate, McCain said health care was a responsibility, Obama said it was a right. I agree with Obama…. Everyone should have a right to health care. We all had a right to school….parents are punished if they dont school their children…… have we nationalized school?
socialize our government by accomplishing a classless society– I have heard that argument since I was a little boy…. There will never be a classless society. Socialism is defined as this An economic system in which the basic means of production are primarily owned and controlled collectively, usually by government Paying taxes isnt socialism….. taxes must be paid to pay the bills….. we cant continue to borrow from China.
strict gun control– This is one issue that I disagree with Obama. I think there should be strict gun control. I dont have the numbers, but Id be willing to wager that there have been about as many deaths by gun as there have been abortions…. I understand the debate about “the right to bear arms” and such….. here I believe that we should look at the strict reading of the constitution. When they wrote the Bill of Rights, all the guns were muzzle loaders…. I do agree with that….. we should all be able to own muzzle loaders to protect ourselves.
Lets keep government out of our personal lives and have them run our public lives.
October 21st, 2008 at 11:02 pm
Lopez- #123 I didn’t realize I was suppose to contradict your post.
October 21st, 2008 at 11:11 pm
Rebecca,
My apologies. I didn’t mean to say that your post should contradict mine. I was questioning the purpose of the post (which was addressed to me) if all you did was reiterate my earlier statements.
No matter. Blogging can get confusing. So let’s chalk it up to that and not get side tracked. Again my apologies for derailing.
October 21st, 2008 at 11:15 pm
I dont like to admit to it…. but I may be tired…… Im gonna go ask my pillow and see what it says.
nighty night
I hope I get my shout out from Joy tomorrow.
October 21st, 2008 at 11:21 pm
I’m right behind ya, Roger.
Rebecca, thank you for a good discussion.
October 21st, 2008 at 11:32 pm
Roger-
healthcare- I think that healthcare should be affordable for everyone. If you can’t afford to buy healthcare you should be able to get some assistance from the government, I think we have something like that now. If the government is footing the bill for my healthcare do you think they might want to have some control over my health. Its the next step.
Classless society begins with “redistributing the wealth” I don’t think someone who works hard for their money and success should have to pay the way for someone who chooses not to work. Obama didn’t say “to pay off dept” he said “spread the wealth” That means take from the rich and give to the not so rich.
Gun Control- we can register all the guns in the US and ban certain guns (whatever the government feels fit) but if the criminals don’t follow the law then what is the point? You may know that Europe has one of the highest crime rates in the world, they banned guns.
I see Obama’s plan as stepping stones in moving this country into a whole new direction.

#231 ITA….if they want to rant about politics go on a political blog…plenty of them. I think some of these bloggers just like to rant because they can’t get anyone to listen to them and they have no respect for others view except their own, DonnaJ.
You can tell what kind of personalities they are….Y-e-e-sh! Not my kind!!!
