The View October 2nd Recap: Nancy Pelosi and Faith Hill

by

faith-hill-the-view.jpgToday on The View the first hot topic was Britney Spears losing custody of her children. Barbara Walters worries about the “adorable little babies.” Elisabeth Hasselbeck does not know why Britney would not do everything she was told in order to keep the children. Whoopi Goldberg thinks that Britney discovered that she is not cut out for being a mother. Joy Behar joked that it was wrong of her to hire Linsday Lohan as the nanny. She suggested that parents should have parenting lessons before having children.

Barbara said that she is doing a big interview with Justin Timberlake and that he has a close relationship with his mother, which helps keep him straight. Whoopi had no idea that Justin and Britney used to be a couple. She joked that she didn’t know anything until she came on the show.

Whoopi brought up the Clarence Thomas book again. He came out pretty strong against Anita Hill in the book. He called her a “combative left-winger.” Anita Hill has spoken out his book saying that he is not allowed to redefine her for the world. She said that she stayed at the job because people put up with a lot in the workplace. Joy joked that Thomas should have written a book called, “If I harassed her.” Although it was sixteen years ago, sexual harassment is still ongoing today.

Barbara Walters is doing a special called “How to live to be 150.” She went in a race car with 82 year old Paul Newman, who Whoopi said is her man. They went around the track at 100 miles an hour. Whoopi said that older men are good because they aren’t in a rush. She then said that she would “do him in a minute.” She also said that she would probably do his wife Joanne Woodward, too.

A mom dressed up like a man to prove to her daughter about the dangers on the internet. Sherri said that her mom did that to her when she was younger. She told her not to open the door for strangers and then the mom went and knocked on the door and Sherri opened it.

They next talked about how Jennie Garth and Derek Hough fell during last night on Dancing with Stars.

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi appeared on the show. She has five children and has been married for 44 years. Barbara pointed out how handsome her husband is (he was in the audience) and said that she thinks that Whoopi wants to “do” him too. Then Whoopi said she would do Nancy too, but since she is Speaker of the House it would have to wait. (What a strange/awkward topic for Barbara to bring up with the Speaker of the House, don’t you think?)

Nancy thinks that Anita Hill was courageous and changed the workplace for women.

She said that the democrats in the House are trying to bring an end to the war. The President has proposed a 10-year, 1 trillion dollar plan, while the House democrats want to begin troop removal as soon as safely possible and end it within a year. They need to end the occupation and begin moving troops out to have stability in the region.

Elisabeth said that civilian deaths in Iraq are down 53% since the surge. Nancy said that there are still a lot of people dying. Nancy said that the purpose of the troop surge was to provide a secure environment in order for political change to take place to end civil discourse. The Iraq government has not met the standard. She asked how much longer should our troops sacrifice their lives when the government of Iraq is not willing to make the necessary changes?

Nancy Pelosi received an award from the National Breast Cancer Coalition. She pointed out that 550,000 Americans die each year from cancer. We spend $5.5 billion on cancer research in a year. That is the same amount of money that is spent in two weeks in Iraq. She said that is misplaced priorities.

Whoopi asked why can’t there be a discourse that does not resort to name-calling. Nancy said that the parties have been working together on some things and passed an ethical standards bill and increased veterans funding.

Faith Hill appeared on the show to promote her album The Hits. Barbara Walters said that she was one of the nicest women and “we would all like to do your husband,” who is country singer Tim McGraw. (Really, what has gotten Barbara?) Recently at a concert, a woman grabbed Tim’s crotch and Faith told her off.

Faith said that she had a rough time after she received a lot of criticism for making a face at the camera and saying “What?!” after losing female vocalist to Carrie Underwood. Faith said that her whole career she has joked around with cameramen in those situations and maybe someday it will come out what happened before and after the clip that was shown on YouTube. She says that she has a “crazy” sense of humor and sometime people don’t get it.

Faith Hill then performed two songs off her album, “Cry” and “This Kiss.”

Thanks for the recap. It sounds like Nancy did a pretty good job.

    Barbara Barbara Barbara…..

What on earth was she thinking?!? How many times did she mention wanting to “do” someone’s husband. Ok, saying it once, I would let that pass but to say it to Nancy Pelosi’s husband and then twice to Nancy herself and then to Faith Hill??? I thought that was really unprofessional, sorry. I thought Whoopi’s simiar comments were just as odd but Barbara seemed to be egging her on.

I thought the Nancy Pelosi interview wasnt as productive as it should have been. Elisabeth was the only one who got in real questions/comments.

Also, it would be nice if politicians mentioned the sacrifices the Iraqi people are making as well.

    Stacee,

    ???
‘at some of the hotter guests’? What does that mean? Do they lower the temperature in the studio or something?
    ———————————————
You know what I meant by “hotter”. Haha, you are a funny one! ;} Oh,and just what do they mean by “HOT Topics”, hmmmmm??????

  4. rainlillie Says:

Considering Nancy’s position that was a little tacky to talk about “doing” her husband. I felt the same way when I read the comment made about Joe Biden’s butt.

  5. Elsie Says:

Just finished watchin The View here in the W.C. Pretty heavy “Hot Topics”. Britney’s custody battle, Justice Thomas’harrasment case, etc. Joy has a way of lighting things up so that the show doesn’t become too serious. Sorry for prior unrelated comments. Luv ths blog. :)

  6. May Says:

Enjoyed today’s show up to a point. Didn’t like Whoopi talking about “doing Paul Newman, his wife, etc”. That talk needs to be saved for her stand up. Barbara was trying too hard by adding more “doing” talk. EH is sitting up higher than everyone else. Must be having hemorroids. (She IS a hemmorroid!)

  7. Rana Says:

I felt that during the Nancy Pelosi interview everyone was walking on egg shells. I was, however, glad to see Whoopi curbing Elisabeth’s tendency to interrupt. It’s all well and good for her or anyone else to have their say, but I don’t enjoy cross talk, which seems to obscure everyone’s position.

  8. Sandy Says:

I have to agree with the others, what in the world is Barbara thinking?, …or not thinking.
The show just seemed kind of ..?..weird today.
I also feel that Nancy could have been ask more questions.

  9. rainlillie Says:

“Must be having hemorroids. She IS a hemmorroid.”

    LOL!

  10. rainlillie Says:

I think they should allow people online to submit questions to some of the guests. That would be far more interesting IMO.

  12. Viva Says:

Is it too much to ask that the show not suck! I mean really what’s happening? I agree Sandy it seemed weird (but it has been a lot lately IMO).
I think I need an intervention because every day I say I’m not going to watch. Then just like people are drawn to stare at a car wreck or an accident I just can’t help it. Before I know it I’m turning on the tv then gazing in shock at when I’m seeing. Afterwards I’m so ashamed and feel guilty for staring - just like the car wreck!!
(slight exageration(sp) but you get my point)
Why can’t I just stop watching and be happy with the recaps and posts? I guess I just keeping hoping that today is the day it will be better.

  13. Bobarian Says:

Islamic fundamentalists don’t hate the USA because of George W. Bush. They hate the USA because of celebrities

such as Britney Spears, 50-cent, Madonna and Whoopi Goldberg.

In the eyes of religious Muslims, Western culture is the height of decadence. They do call the USA “the Great

Satan” because of our military power, but rather because they find Western popular culture to be a disgraceful

affront to nearly every value that they hold sacred.

They see their culture threatened by the West’s great pursuit of the false gods of wealth and celebrity

    status, sexual liberation and hedonism.

The insidious Hollywood subversives who rant the loudest against GWB would be the first

to get beheaded if the Taliban were to take over.

  14. rainlillie Says:

We can’t blame celebrities for religious extremists turning to terrorism as a way to get their point across.

  15. Peaches Says:

    I think I smell another Troll….

Funny, isn’t it, how EH is so nice to celebs, but rudly interrupts Nancy Pelosi. She had her talking-points statistics all ready to go. Didn’t look to me like she was realy listening but instead was ready to butt in. I didn’t think Whoopi’s comment made a lot of sense, though I appreciated her & Babs (with her stern look) not letting EH get by with motor-mouthing too much. Sherri looked like she was actually seriously listening. I have my fingers crossed each day she doesn’t succumb to EH’s home-schooling. I was annoyed at Whoopi’s saying “both sides do it”; I get tired of hearing that. While it is true, the implication of that comment is that both sides equally, 50-50, “do it.” The same with issues: Not every issue has 2 equally correct “sides.” It seems like the path of least resistance to ask a question like that.

I wonder if Babs is stinging from the leaks from Rosie’s upcoming book about how she should call it a day & pack it in. Could that be why she’s doing stunts with Paul Newman and joining in with the sex talk? And starting a radio program? To prove that she still has a few tricks left in her? Nobody wants to be put out to pasture professionally … and perhaps sexually as well. Just wonderin’ …

  16. Shannon Says:

Peaches, I think you nailed it completely in your last paragraph!!
I was EMBARASSED for Barbara Walters today. She is trying so hard to appear hip and young that it makes me want to just mute it or turn away because I cringe in embarassment. Talking like a teenager doesn’t make you a teenager!

  17. tony Says:

Motor mouth is the perfect name for EH. She just talks too much. She can have her opinions, but she just plain talks too much, hogging the show. It’s one thing to hog the show if you have talent, but she has none, so it’s just irritating….and to show so little decorum by all of them, in the presence of the Speaker of the House was disrespectful and frankly disgraceful.

  18. rainlillie Says:

“and to show so little decorum by all of them, in the presence of the Speaker of the House was disrespectful and frankly disgraceful.”

I agree Tony. I saw a clip on 360 tonight.

  19. JK Says:

It’s time to turn “The View” OFF ..glad for this blog - train wrecks are what they are… UGLY. I found it Sad (underlined) that Barbara has moved along this path (pit) to speak in that manner (degrading) to anyone; let alone Speaker of the House; that poor husband..”do” someone… geesh ..
God help us! Let’s see .. how do I cancel cable???

  20. Sandy Says:

    #15 Peaches,
Could you please read my comment on thread
Oct. 1 recap. #27. I’m lazy and don’t want to take the time to rewrite it.
    thanks

  21. rainlillie Says:

When Faith was on did they ask her about getting on that woman’s case for grabbing her hubby’s family jewels?
