The View October 3rd Recap: Anne Hathaway and Troy Dunn
Today on The View, on a pre-taped, but new episode, Barbara Walters was absent again.
The first topic was that a new edition of The Joy of Sex is coming out. It claims that women don’t care what shape a man is in. Whoopi said that we do care, but won’t talk about it. Sherri said that we will take a belly or thinning hair, because we care about the inside. Joy said thinning hair, but not morbid obestity. Elisabeth said women care mare about closeness, while men need to be turned on more. Whoopi said that when you can’t breathe, you need to tell him to lose weight. Later she said if she can’t carry the man, he needs to roll over and they will think of something else. As she said that she pretended she was being crushed by someone on top of her. Elisabeth said some men like a little something to hold on to. Joy said they like the skinny bitches. Elisabeth said men don’t like women to complain about their bodies and want you to be confident. Joy said that Prince Charles had a beautiful wife in Diana, then went for someone more “horsey.” Sherri said maybe he wanted someone to talk to at that age. Joy said he should have gone with Mr. Ed. Joy said that men sometimes will like a woman of a particular shape if it is like his mother. Whoopi said that you don’t want him thinking about his mother when you are having sex. When she was married, Joy thought her husband looked like the man in The Joy of Sex, but thinks she was just projecting because another married woman thought it looked like her husband.
Sherri’s son Jeffrey had a 103.5 fever over the past weekend. He threw up all over Sherri’s journal. She called Elisabeth because it was her first time alone with him when he was sick. Elisabeth gave her advice about freezing Gatorade for Jeffrey to lick. Joy asked Sherri if she has a doctor to call. Elisabeth said she was offended by that. Sherri got through it and feels better now that she was able to do so.
According to a new study, socially-embarrassing situations trigger a different part of a teenager’s brain than an adult brain, which explains why they cringe when their parents dance or something similar. Elisabeth said maybe it is a fear that they will end up that way. Joy said her mom would decide to sing at parties and Joy would hide under the table. Sherri’s dad used to dance and she would get embarrassed. At her uncle’s party a few months ago, though, she thought her dad was hip when he danced. Whoopi’s grandchildren told her there are some things she can’t pull off, even though they think she is hip most of the time. Her daughter used to not like it when Whoopi wore mini-skirts. Joy said that she talks to loud for her daughter and she corrects her in public. Elisabeth said she does the same thing with her mom. Sherri said her dad is loud and thinks he know everyone and will hug them. Joy joked he will stop when he gets arrested.
There is a Wall Street Journal article that says warehouse stores, like Costco, may not save you as much as you think because you buy more than you need. Joy said you can never have enough toiler paper and paper towels. Elisabeth loves the free samples and big carts. Whoopi doesn’t like the samples because she worries about germs. Sherri goes to Costco hungry and gets all the samples. Joy said that some of them you don’t have to join to get alcohol so she will go there. Whoopi needs 75 rolls of toilet paper at all times in her house and keeps them all over the house. Joy joked if she is afraid of dysentery. Whoopi said that she is a hoarder.
Anne Hathaway appeared on the show to promote her new film Rachel Getting Married. Hathaway plays a woman who just got out of rehab and her sister is getting married.
Hathaway’s mom is a trained theater singer, so she sings very loudly in public, which embarrasses her. She thinks when you are a kid you are awkward and uncomfortable in your own skin and don’t want any reason for people to look at you, which is explains why teens are so embarrassed by their parents.
Elisabeth mentioned Hathaway’s “tumultuous summer,” but did not ask her any details about it. Hathaway said she is so proud of her film and she wants everyone to see it, which usually she is hesitant to suggest. She thinks it was her most honest performance because she was acting from a place of creativity, rather than to please others. She thinks that subconsciously she normally wants people to like her character, but she learned not to editorialize her character. She feels for the first time that she is an artist.
Hathaway loves to do comedy, but thinks it is harder because she is a dork and pushes too hard sometimes. She needs to learn to underplay jokes more. Whoopi told her not to worry about timing on film and leave that to the editor. She is hosting Saturday Night Live tomorrow. Joy told her that she could play Sarah Palin, too.
They showed some magazine covers that Hathaway has appeared on. In the W cover, she wore 30 pounds of hair on her head and had to lean to one side a lot.
There is some Oscar buzz for her current role. She said it is amazing and it is “hugely exciting.” However, she compared it to hearing a rumor during the first week of school that a guy you like is going to ask you to prom, but you have to wait all school year to see if it is true.
Troy Dunn also appeared on the show to promote The Locator, a series on WE, which reunites people with long-lost family members. He has been doing it for many years and started by helping his mom find her birth family. Katie Wynn also appeared on the show. Dunn helped her find her birth mother. She said that not knowing her birth mother “ate at” her and she had to find out about her. Kathy Anderson, her birth mother, was also on the show. She put Katie up for adoption because she was so young. Joy said that Roe v. Wade was in effect and she had a choice to have an abortion, but said she is not suggesting she should have done that. Kathy said she did have a choice, but chose to give her up for adoption. Katie said her adoptive parents were supportive of the idea of finding Kathy. Katie’s adoptive aunt new about Kathy because she was a nurse in the hospital where Katie was born. The aunt knew all the time, but would not tell her the details.
Dunn said it is always hard to find females because they may have changed their name. He said that often finding them is not always the hard part, but facilitating the reunion is often the toughest part. Kathy said it was wonderful to see her daughter finally. Katie said she felt “empty” as a child because she did not know her birth mother. Kathy said that she had at the same feeling and felt an ache not knowing her daughter.
Dr. Gadget appeared on the show. All the new gadgets he showed off help benefit breast cancer awareness because a portion of the profits are donated to charity. The items he showed were:
* Oreck Platinum Power Team vacuum
* Pink Kitchen Aid Mixer
* Pink Viper Security & Remote Starter
* Favi Entertainment Pink LCD HD TV with DVD Player
* Pink Audio Unlimited Indoor-Outdoor Wireless Speakers

I was disappointed that following the VP debate there was not one bit of political discussion on hot topics. I was really looking forward to an active discussion. Were the ladies told not to discuss it?
October 3rd, 2008 at 12:42 pm
Sherri during HT today tells a story about how her son Jeffrey was sick with 103 degree temp. and she ‘didn’t know what to do’ So what did she do? She called Elisabeth. She said ‘Lizzy’ helped her with dealing with her ‘upchucking son’ and was ever so grateful. Dum Dum said she was so busy writing down all of her thoughts in her journal as Jeffreys fever was high, he then proceeded to throw up all over her journal that she was writing her empty headed thoughts into.
Joy asked her ever so matter of factly ‘Don’t you have a doctor you could call?’ The audience laughed as was I… how can Sherri not know what to do with her son having such a high fever? She then started flailing her arms around as she said ‘yes she has a doctor but ‘they always tell you to wait it out’. WTH is wrong with this woman? @@
And DeeAnn..
Fridays show as most often ALL Friday shows…are NOT live! They even said on Thursdays show there will not be any discussion about the debate until Monday.
October 3rd, 2008 at 12:44 pm
Deanne, the show is pre-taped on Friday. It’s not live. They have Friday’s off.
They will discuss the debate on Monday.

I really do love Sheri, and to be honest, she and Joy are probably my fav’s, but Sheri IS someone I get the most frustrated with. So many things are new to her and sometimes I think commonsense is also lol. For her to have been as succesful as she was even prior to The View gig you sometimes scratch your head wondering how? She relies so much on others to tell her what decision she should make, and then she changes that!
October 3rd, 2008 at 1:11 pm
Sherri writing her thoughts down in a journal shouldn’t take very long. If there are any idea’s in her head, they are in solitary confinement.
October 3rd, 2008 at 1:19 pm
I was also very disappointed to find out that
the show is taped for Friday. I enjoy listening to all their views especially those Elisabeth shares. I tend to agree with
most of her political views she has expressed
on the show. I have heard that she may be
leaving the show and hope this is only rumors. She is a great asset to this show.
October 3rd, 2008 at 1:44 pm
Meleon, your comment is spot on.
Sherri even had her husband tell her who to vote for.
I think that’s a primary reason she wants to marry again; so she can defer decisions to someone else. No I don’t know that for sure, it’s just my perception based on what she has said in the past.
To be fair, there are ocassions, here and there, that she does make a good point. It’s quite startling though, and I can’t help but wonder ‘where did that come from’?
Sky, LOL
October 3rd, 2008 at 1:53 pm
sherri who proudly declares herself a christian probably takes the bible literally and adheres to the belief that a wife follows her husbands lead…i think that’s why she can’t make up her mind about who to vote for
October 3rd, 2008 at 2:53 pm
For those Obama supporters on here…there is a movement to donate $16 dollars today to the campaign in honor of his and Michelle’s 16th anniversary. Just wanted to post in case anyone else is interested in doing it and in passing the word.
October 3rd, 2008 at 3:51 pm
susieq, Good point and that is what I figured.
ShannonP, thank you for the reminder. Will do.
October 3rd, 2008 at 4:39 pm
Not to be mean about Sherri, but from what I understand about her son is three years old so shouldn’t she know by now how to deal with a sick child?? I guess if he was an infant people might not think much about it..but after three years she should have an idea..at least..even if her husband took care of Jeffery most of the time.

I dont have kids, but I know that if u have a child with a fever u should wash him down with a cool rag. It is called care….if u dont know how to care for your child, why would you FIGHT for custody? Talk about selfish.
October 3rd, 2008 at 4:52 pm
I wrote this on a different section, one that has faded….. I was kinda proud of it so Im gonna move it here so we can discuss…. wow…. am I really a pain in the…. nevermind
this was after reading all the hating on EH…
Ok people… listen up…. the voice of reason is about to speak
ok…. now that I have your attention lets get real.
The View is NOT a political show. They didnt go out looking for right wing nut cases or left win nut cases either. They went looking for people that fit.
35 Beth said The View is about ratings which equates to $$$$$! Rosie was causing ratings to go down…she’s gone. TOTALLY wrong….. Rosie increased ratings and they were sad to see her leave. They offered her over 10 million to stay… when she actually left she only had 2 weeks left on her contract she just left early.
Whoopi was a very good replacement. Not because she is left wing, but because she is fair. Sherri was selected because of her lack of politics (IMO) a bad choice because she doesnt have much of a view.
Elizabeth drives me nuts, but I tolerate her because she is just like my mom. Every day we have some sort of political “chat” What drives me nuts is, I grew up with her….and things she says now she didnt believe back then. (she “became” republican because of her disappointment of Bill Clinton)
As it has been said time and time again….. Joy wants me…. I just wish she wasnt so quiet about it.
Alright…. if anyone is left Ill tell u a secret about EH
When the whole hubbub with Rosie came about she became a “folksy hero” and it became a ploy. She became the Heroic Republican….defender of the right wing nut cases. She was even given “talking points” from Bill Getty at one point. I think, after being patted on the back by faux news and their ilk…,she started to believe it.
October 3rd, 2008 at 5:28 pm
Well, I know this is mean to say, and actually I have to credit my sister with saying it first (so I don’t feel so bad)but after watching her on this show now for awhile we see why her husband left her.
October 3rd, 2008 at 10:58 pm
Hello Everyone,
I am skipping between Leno & Letterman, 12am, est. Of course, they are making jokes, but ALSO, making very valid points.
You may disagree, I take more solice in the Late Night Hosts, and guests, than “the likes” of The View.
Think about it - to continue to watch the view, and drive ourselves crazy, about who is smarter, more informed, Watching how EH is going to react. We know how she will react.
The View is getting huge ratings, good and bad.
We have lost ourselves.
We give EH too much agknowledgment. She is getting more famous everyday for her tantrums.
Like it or not, Whoop is whoop. Know one on that show will ever get to her level of, “Her well deserved Star status”
Joy is intelligent, a comic, and has years of life experience.
Sherry, ?? I think she is a lovely person. I feel bad for her. I love her smile and up beat attitude. But when she opens up,???
The Queen BW, WOW, I watched her shows forever. No one could stand her voice, but thought her interviews were wonderful.
Sadly, will someone tell her?? She cannot, think fast enough for the comments on The View.
She looks so foolish.
History will tell you, they lost many knowledable, funny, and never forget Meredith. Hosts
My point, continue to get the facts from other outlets.
If I wake up the am after the Vote, If i have to tell my sons, McC/Palin, won, will be the worst day of my life.
Get back to me, tell me your thoughts
October 4th, 2008 at 12:32 am
#8 christians who “take the Bible literally” know that women have equal status with men.
As a christian, i do believe in letting my husband lead our family, but what that actually means is highly misconstrued and misrepresented. i am never dominated or inhibited in any way. that would be anti-true Christianity as taught by the Bible. i am an equal to my husband and we are actually co-leaders of our family. i choose to defer if there is an impasse, but not out of fear or inferiority, but as more of a management decision, to keep our family running and not in gridlock. but honestly, he defers to me just as much, out of respect for me, as i have for him.
the egotistical, tyrannical “christian” men who dominate their wives are not doing so under biblical orders. they have perverted what the Bible teaches. so, no, being a Christian who takes the Bible literally doesn’t mean our husbands tell us how to vote. alot of stuff that “Christians” do is just plain goofy/weird, not b/c of what the Bible teaches.

#13 Roger from Ohio:
How did you find all this out?
October 4th, 2008 at 9:43 am
Caty: “f I wake up the am after the Vote, If i have to tell my sons, McC/Palin, won, will be the worst day of my life.”
Are your sons young and live at home or are they in the service?
****************************
You are right that the show is getting ratings because of Bit’s nastiness. I get my view from Winnie’s site as I won’t play the game anymore. I will watch if Obama, Clinton or some other intelligent politician is a guest.
I am disillusioned with Whoopie, her hygiene,
her bored expressions and her misrepresentation of a lot of facts (esp. rape kits/Palin) leave me wondering how broke she must be to just show up for the paycheck.
Joy seems not to want to make waves, she is so much better on King. And SS, oh well.
I can’t wait to read how Bit’s cheers that Palin won the debate, just like Pat Buchanan quoting right wing polls from Drudge and aol. Blind leading the blind.

This is the only show I got to watch this week. From the recaps and comments, one of the least interesting.
From the discussion about Sherri’s son being sick, and her texting Elisabeth concerning that, I didn’t get the impression that she didn’t know how to take care of Jeffrey. Just that she wanted and needed reassurance, that she was doing the right things.
When a young child is sick, some times mothers like to have the input of others, and what they would do. There were times when mine were little, that I was unsure if it was time to go to the E.R. (That seemed to be what Sherri was concerned about). Many times I called my mother to get her thoughts, especially when they had a high fever.
Other times it was just to talk with someone who had been through this with their children, ..it gave me comfort and some peace of mind.
I have a young sister with little ones, who calls me often when her children are ill. Not because she doesn’t know what to do, but more so for reassurance.
So I fully understand Sherri.
# 13 Rodger from Ohio.
I agree with the basics of your comment, although not exactly all of it.
Elisabeth doesn’t bother me too much, although I certainly do not agree with her all the time.
My mom is not a conservative, she’s a Democrat. I rarely have political discussions with her. However my Dad is another story. He’s also a Democrat, and loves to talk politics.
And finally, I don’t think Joy wants me.
# 16 Cheryl,
Thank you very much. Too often some have the wrong idea about what the Bible “really” teaches.
a lot of stuff that “Christians” do is just plain goofy/weird, not b/c of what the Bible teaches.
Also very true.
October 4th, 2008 at 10:49 am
Hello
Cheryl #16- Thank you
Sandy #20- You are absolutely correct in regards to Sheeri calling on a friend for advice. I have also called on relatives and friends when my child is sick that doesn’t make me a bad Mom.
I wonder if people were so upset because she called Elizabeth?
October 4th, 2008 at 10:50 am
Dee Says:
“I get my view from Winnie’s site as I won’t play the game anymore.”
Same here, Dee. And I pretty much agree with the rest of your post too.
cheryl, I see what you are saying.

When a child has a temp of 103, I find it very strange to call a friend instead of a doctor. That really concerns me that she didn’t know what to do.
October 4th, 2008 at 11:12 am
#20 Sandy..
I think you are being way too generous in your compliments towards the Dum Dum when it comes to her sons fever.
She flat out said that she didn’t know what to do and called Elisabeth.
It had nothing to do with getting a second opinion or reassurance, she just doesn’t know how to parent her child unless it involves spanking or shoving his face in her breasts.

#23 Rain
I totally agree. If memory serves correctly, a fever that high after the age of 2 I think, is very dangerous.
My son had fever seizures. He had his first one at one and had another at two. I called the squad for both and was given the advice both times, it is ok for him to have a high temp and normal to have seizures ( eye roll I do not think it is normal to seize) and I shouldn’t panic just to do all I can to bring the temp down (cool wet rag, cold tub etc.) but once he turns 3 these types of seizures could do perm. damage. So to me then and even now every time he has a fever it is a major event and I am up all night taking temp. and I do not hesitate to take him to a doctor or ER. I pay my co pays and have insurance and would never forgive myself if he suffers damage because I was afraid to over react. So I EH would be the last person I would call.
October 4th, 2008 at 11:16 am
I can’t believe she said she wasn’t sure if she should put a hot cloth on him. OMG! He has 103 degree fever!! That would be a NO!
And writing in the journal at a time like that? His fever was so high that he vomited all over it! Serves her right!
I wonder what her soon to be ex husband must think when he gets wind of what she admits to on national television!

rainlillie Says:
“When a child has a temp of 103, I find it very strange to call a friend instead of a doctor. That really concerns me that she didn’t know what to do.”
Excellent point!!!
I share the same feelings as Vegas and misslingdow’s in their subsequent posts.
October 4th, 2008 at 12:19 pm
When a child has a fever of 103 you give them Tylenol or something like tylenol, and you wait it out. Any doctor will tell you the same. If the fever doesn’t break different story.
misslingdow- I can’t believe anyone would tell you a high fever and seizures is normal. Neither is “normal”- crazy.
I personally don’t rush my kids to the hospital everytime they have a fever and I do understand calling a friend.
October 4th, 2008 at 12:58 pm
I do believe the point is Sherri didn’t know enough to give her child something to bring the fever down. I don’t knock any parent who brings their child to the doctor. Better safe than sorry.
Misslingdow,
Having two my children myself, I’ve dealt with all kinds of fevers, but not once did I think I better call a friend. Maybe after things have settled down and after I talked to their Pediatrician.
As Vegas said she even thought about putting a hot cloth on the child. If I were her hubby I would be concerned about the child’s well being. I’m not saying she’s a bad parent, just uniformed. Hopefully her child won’t suffer because of her lack of knowledge. What would she have done if she was unable to reach her friend?
October 4th, 2008 at 3:03 pm
#29 Rain thanks for the back up
and
#28 Rebecca I thought it sounded crazy as well and not only did I hear that from the doctors at the ER but from my father in law who is a oncologist and actually laughed at my “over reaction”. I told him laugh if you want to but if he should have another seizure 10 min from now I will be dialing 911 again.
October 4th, 2008 at 8:28 pm
# 24 Vegas, and others,
While I did watch the show, I can’t remember “exactly” everything She had to say concerning Jeffrey’s fever, and her texting Elisabeth.
I honestly had the perception that she was doing the texting, in need of reassurance, and any advise Elisabeth might have, because she was concerned about her son. Perhaps her Dr. isn’t available on the weekend. It seems like she did say something about her Dr. or Dr’s in general. I don’t remember exactly.
Maybe she didn’t know exactly what to do, I don’t know. I don’t know if she gave him tylenol or not, she didn’t say.
she did say that this was the first time she had been through this by herself. It sounded to me like she was overwhelmed, and second guessing herself. That was MY perception. At times like that, a friend or relative, can be a comfort.
My comment wasn’t really about that, whether she knew what to do or not. Just that I Understand the need to talk to a relative or friend, at a time like that.
# 25 & 30 mislingdow,
I would have been scared to death if my child had seizures with or from fevers. Thankfully I never had to go through that.
I don’t blame you, every time my child had one, I’d be taking him to the E.R. as well, or calling the paramedics every time.
October 4th, 2008 at 11:26 pm
Many doctors are on call after business hours. If they are not available, their rn’s or nurse practitioners are able to talk. If not, you can err on the side of caution and take a trip to the ER. She’s insured. If not, surely she has the means to pay for the visit.
Jeffrey was a premie and I think Sherri mentioned he has lung issue(?) If true, she should be more vigilant with his health, especially if he’s feverish. If she does not know, she should probably seek a trained professional. Texting someone like Bitsy is not wise, considering his medical history.
Seriously, she had Jeffrey with the dad because the weather in NY was not conducive to his health. To me, it’s vitally important that Sherri educate herself in order to be better prepared for situations like this. I’m sorry, she is too old to be so daft at times.
October 5th, 2008 at 11:49 am
Sorry a day behind- I tivo The View and watch on weekends. I LOVED the segment friday on the show, The Locator. It is my absolute favorite show on tv! I have been trying to find out more about the star, Troy Dunn, but he seems to keep a low profile. I read he has seven children (!!) Anyone else know more about this angel-on-earth? THANK YOU “The View” for a glimpse of him and the show.
The only complaint I have is JOY BEHAR. She is so consumed by extreme left politics, she actually asked the birth mother (in other words) why she didn’t abort the unwanted pregnancy! (The daughter she relinquished was sitting next to her!!)
I normally enjoy Joy when she is doing her job- be funny- but when she constantly attempts to inject politics into everything, she makes me want to tune out of the show.
I agree with earlier post- Whoopie seems to just be phoning it in.
I love The View!
October 5th, 2008 at 3:40 pm
I have never even heard of that show ‘The Locator’ and that guy from the show looked like he poured a whole bottle of hair gell on top of his head. He looked ridiculous.
As for the mother/daughter, I agree that question Joy asked was awkward, and unneccasary.
October 5th, 2008 at 6:51 pm
As a huge fan of Joy’s, I feel I should announce when I think she’s wrong. I apologize on her behalf, to the lovely daughter who held her grace in the face of such a callous, painful remark. I don’t even pretend to know what Joy was thinking.

As Winnie advised in the closed thread: Review the rules. You have been just as part of many others in having it closed for veering off topic. Keep it up and this one will be as well.
To be on topic; regarding the pink Kitchen Aid mixer; mine is not pink but I can speak on the quality of these mixers. They are very dependable and long lasting. I highly recommend this brand and item.
