The View September 12th Recap: John McCain and Cindy McCain

by

Despite the fact that it is Friday, a day that is usually pre-taped, today’s episode of The View was live. All five hosts were present for today’s episode. They were all wearing black and white.

The first topic was Sarah Palin’s interview last night. Barbara said that John McCain said that he will get Palin to come onto The View. Sherri thinks that Palin is a “formidable woman,” but the interview reminded her of being in the principal’s office. She noted that Palin spoke well and did not use any “ahhs” or “uhhs.” Elisabeth said that some people are saying that the interview was too hard, but it should be hard, because it is not a date. Joy wonders if they would say it was “too tough” if she was not a woman? Barbara said she was “very well briefed.” She said she did not know what the “Bush doctrine,” is but everyone in government does not. Joy said that everyone in government is not running for VP. Joy said saying you are ready does not mean it is true. She could say that she (Joy) is ready to be a model, but it isn’t true. Elisabeth said she has run a state. Barbara said that we need not go through the whole litany again.

Whoopi said the interview didn’t do anything for her and did not feel engaged in the conversation. She doesn’t like that they split the interview into 48 parts. Barbara said she doesn’t know whose decision it was to break it up into sections of sitting and walking. Whoopi thought it was too tense and rehearsed and there was no relaxed part of it. Joy said it was very strict and severe, but they tried to act like it was relaxed by having them walking. Whoopi wants to tell Palin that if you aren’t sure of the answer, do not keep repeating the same phrase over again. Elisabeth said all the politicians do that. Whoopi said she is supposed to be different kind of politician. Joy wants to see the interviews unedited. Barbara saw the unedited version and they didn’t take out anything important, but that Palin had a really long answer which was not shown prior to Charlie Gibson saying he got lost in all the words.

Will Tina Fey return to SNL to play Sarah Palin? Amy Poehler is expected to play Cindy McCain. Barbara said Barack Obama will be on SNL. Whoopi said that no, Michael Phelps will be on. Then she corrected herself that Obama will be in a sketch, bur Phelps will be hosting.

In Italy a comedian is facing jail time for making a joke about the Pope. {Barbara then got a message in her earpiece that ABC wants to make it clear that they are not parceling out the Palin interview. They are being aired as they are completed.} The joke about the Pope is that he will be tormented by gay demons when he dies. Whoopi said that the Pope does not have a good sense of humor. There is a law that you cannot insult religion. Whoopi said that she will not be going to Italy because she is going to hell already. Joy said that she is happy to be in America and won’t be going to Italy until they change the law and you can joke about religion.

John McCain came out first by himself. He gave each host a hug. John asked the audience if they saw Joy on Larry King Live and joked that she is “undecided.” Joy said that she told McCain backstage that she thinks that if is elected, he will go back to the old McCain, unless the Republican Party has him by the short hairs, and he laughed.

Barbara asked him about saying that Palin is the best Vice President ever. He joked that politicians are never prone to exaggeration. He said that she is a great person, great governor, and understands energy issues. Pain said she was chosen to reform the government. Barbara asked McCain who Palin is going to reform? McCain said that there has been no improvement in the past two years when Democrats are in control of both houses. McCain said Palin will reform all of Washington, like ear-mark spending. Joy said that she took some, too. McCain said she didn’t while governor. McCain said she sold the plane and fired the chef. Barbara said that she sold it as a loss. McCain said, “You wanted her to keep it?” Barbara tried to ask him the question again about who Palin will reform, but he said “You have to let me finish.” He said that Palin will stop the Good Old Boy network like he has done in his career.

Joy said that “you used to be more of a maverick” and now “you are more lock-step” with the Republican Party because you want to get elected. McCain laughed and asked what area has he changed in? He said he is the same person and hasn’t changed. Joy said that two ads that are running, the lipstick on a pig ad and the ad claiming that Obama wanted to teach sex education to five year old are lies and asked him how he could approve those messages? McCain said they aren’t lies. Then he asked if she has seen the ads the other side are running. He said he personally used the lipstick phrase to talk about a health care plan. Barbara said that Obama was talking about change. McCain said that Obama should not have said that and that he chooses his words very carefully. McCain wants to do town hall meetings with Obama and said that they should ask him why he doesn’t want to when he comes on the show. Barbara said that they would ask him that if McCain gets Sarah Palin to come on The View.

Whoopi asked him if he believed in the separation of church and state and he said “Sure.” Whoopi asked if it gave him pause that Palin might not have the same belief that he does. McCain said that Judeo-Christian values are the basis of our nation. He believes that God has a plan for this world and we should trust that God will put our nation and world on the right path. He said that people should respect people who believe that, but people do not have to believe that. When he was in prison he would pray that it was God’s will for him to get out. Whoopi asked do you govern the nation as God would have you do it or for the greater good of the people? He said people can have their own beliefs, but he prays everyday for God to not succumb to temptation and to do what is in the best interest of the country. He said “I am an imperfect person.” He respects those who thinks they don’t need spiritual guidance, but he does.

Elisabeth asked him about Roe v. Wade and whether he and Palin would work to overturn it. He would nominate judges to the Supreme Court and lower courts who strictly interpret the constitution, but it would not be a litmus test. He believes that Roe v. Wade was a very bad decision. Whoopi wants to know if she will become a slave again if you strictly interpret the constitution. He said that he understands her point and he said it is an excellent point. He said that the judges should not invent parts of the Constitution that are not there. He is pro-life because he believes life begins at conception. He respects others views, however. Joy said, “You believe in choice, then?” Then Barbara said they had to move on.

There is a new video of his release from a Vietnam prison in 1973. They showed it and he said it was a “grand moment” and his experience in prison changed him from a person who was interested in self-glory to someone who wants to serve his country over his own interest. He said that the reason why they did not make him leave the prison earlier and gave him the choice, was because it would have ruined the propaganda value if he said upon release that it was not his choice to leave.

Cindy McCain joined her husband for the last segments (about 15 minutes). She wore a red pantsuit. They have been married 28 years. Elisabeth asked Cindy why John is the man to be the next president. She said he is so good at what he does and he is a “measured man” who has put the country first before himself. Elisabeth asked if there are things they don’t see eye-to-eye on. Cindy says that she doesn’t watch ESPN all day. They don’t really disagree politically on anything. They don’t spend a lot of time talking about politics; they talk about their children.

Barbara asked her about Roe v. Wade and how Gov. Palin does think there should be exceptions for rape and incest. Cindy said that she is pro-life, but agrees with her husband that there should be exceptions and disagrees with Palin on that point.

Cindy said a McCain administration will include all kinds of people and you don’t have to agree on everything. He joked he would appoint Joy to be director of communications. Barbara asked him about Clinton. He said that she wants to stay in the Senate and he will work with her and they have a great working relationship.

Sherri asked her how she balanced running a company and raising children while McCain was in Washington. She said that she did it like how all of you do it. She said that raising children kept her going and she loves being busy. She said that American women can do anything. He said that keeping the children in Arizona was the right decision.

Barbara asked them how many houses they have. Cindy said that is not part of the campaign and she is fortunate to come from a family who provided a good life and allowed them to give to others. Elisabeth said, as they went to break, that they do give a lot and their sons have gone into the military.

Whoopi asked him how he will engage young people who may be disappointed in the outcome of the election because it has taken him awhile to get up to speed on all the technology. He will talk to his own kids and go to venues that young people are on, like the internet, this show, SNL. He will have a website they will be interested in. He joked that his daughter’s blog sometimes gets more hits than his own website.

Sherri asked Cindy about her trip to Georgia. Cindy said there is a humanitarian crisis there that we need to keep track of and that the Russians are “bad guys” in this situation. She said that women and children are being hurt in the process.

  1. Sarah Says:

“Joy said that two ads that are running, the lipstick on a pig ad and the ad claiming that Obama wanted to teach sex education to five year old are lies and asked him how he could approve those messages? McCain said they aren’t lies.”

Why in the world do the hosts not whip out a little research to challenge these people when they blatantly lie on their show. Factcheck.org has already one an article about how the sex ed ad was a lie.

    http://www.factcheck.org/elections-2008/off_base_on_sex_ed.html

And planned parenthood is so angry they have issued their own video in response to the ads:

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/09/12/plannet-parenthood-defend_n_125911.html

Why even bother having candidates on the show if they’re just going to give them a platform to lie. It’s infuriating.

  2. rainlillie Says:

“He believes that Roe v. Wade was a very bad decision. ”

There you have it. The rest of what he said about that subject is irrelevant.
You have the head of the ticket who thinks Roe v. Wade was a bad decision and you have the VP with extreme views on abortion. Need anymore proof that it will be overturned if they’re elected?

I heard a McCain spokesperson say the same thing last night about the town hall meetings. She said the tone of the campaign would be different if Obama had of agreed to those meetings.

What the heck? So they are going to run a mean, nasty campaign against him, because he won’t give in to John McCain’s request?

That’s sounds like something a bully would say. The more I see and hear McCain the less I like him.

  3. Chris Says:

i thought the whole thing was strange..there was a real heir of tension between john whoopi and the audience!! LOL

  4. Kristy,Al Says:

I have to say I usally enjoy watching the view. But after today I don’t know if I will be able to. I had looked forward to seeing John and Cindy McCain on the show today. But I feel like he was attacked by both Barbra and Whoopi. Being Barbra not letting him finish his answers to questions to the remark Whoopi made about having to worry about being slaves again. Number 1 i agree with getting this nation back to the way our four fathers intended. I think most people do. History tell thats why we came to America because all white black ect were at one time or another SLAVES! And our great leaders or four fathers came here to give freedom of…. and i find it WRONG to keep race as an issue. That comment was rude and just ungly. I have ALWAYS loved Whoopi she was always a wonderful actress but I was shocked at her comment. And then having Barbra say it’s Sherri us whit people will keep you safe was rediculous! I just can’t imagine why you would say those things. The View asked and invited Mr McCain to be on the show. Knowing certain one are for Obama. I thought that step was great considering that Oprah want allow them on her show. But I never thought He would be attacked on TV like he was by you. It brings me great sadness to have witnessed this.

  5. Kelly Says:

Teeth were bared. It was like an ambush given all the free passes this week. I couldn’t get home quick enough to catch the first 20 minutes.

Overall, what did they think of Palin?

I got the distinct impression that McCain and his people are very tuned into Winnie’s website. I heard a lot of references to our comments – and I know we mirror a larger group of disenfranchised voters.

The View’s audience is the ‘swing’ voter – the undecided women who supported Clinton – or those who just can’t wrap their minds around McCain. Both The View and Oprah have the audience the candidates’ need right now. And since The View no longer allows access to it’s co-hosts, Winnie’s site is probably heavily read by both campaigns.

I also strongly disagree with Cindy when she says the number of homes they own (7) is ‘not a part of this campaign.’ When her husband, John McCain, offers to the public, that he believes middle-income Americans are those who make $5 million or less, then yes Cindy, we have a problem.

The economy is going to hell in hand basket, and McCain thinks middleclass Americans, who are only making $5 million a year, are barely getting by!?!

  6. Mary Carmen Nedel Says:

What a bashing of our republican candidate. Whoopi rolling her eyes, Barbara demanding answers…Completely reaffirming Joy’s constant opinion of the View Gang as being “Bitches”. How nasty and very unprofessional.
I am a registered Democrat but right now I am voting for McCain. Keep rolling those eyes Whoopi you can see right thru you. Such a ridiculous question…will I become a slave as in the past? That question didn’t deserve an answer and McCain was gracious enough to overlook the statement. Go Elizabeth, at first I was not in your corner. But now I realize what you must contend with everyday. My sympathy and best wishes. Hang in there! What makes this country so great is that we are all different and we must express that and do what is best for our country.

  7. red Says:

    @rainlillie,

and i think it’s ridiculous how John Mccain is trying to make it seem like just because he is going to employ people of opossing views that somehow this will soften his views on roe vs. wade.
And i know the his daughter wants her father to win but how does she, being a social liberal, reconcile with the fact that electing her father will most likely overturn roe vs. wade?

  8. wendee Says:

Why isn’t how many houses you own a component of the election, when energy is a huge issue? Doesn’t it seem a little environmentally irresponsible for someone to be using so much energy for one family? Additionally, when you wear 300,000 dollar outfits how do I know that you honestly get that $4 for a gallon of gasoline is outrageous.
The scariest part of this whole thing though is the Roe V. Wade situation. Republicans want to allow all these babies to be born, but do not want to take financial or emotional responsibility for them when their families can’t, much less worry about the health care costs of it all. For people who believe in anti big government, why is it ok to dictate what I do with my body or who I marry, but it is not OK to try to take care of my health?

  9. FireElisabeth Says:

“Elisabeth said she has run a state. Barbara said that we need not go through the whole litany again”

    Did BW smack down EH?

  10. berndoubt Says:

Did I really hear Barbara Walters tell Sherri not to worry, because “us white people will protect you”?

And I wonder what it feels to declare your love for a man on national television and have him tell your co-host that he’ll choose her for a position in his administration?

  11. misslingdow Says:

how do I know that you honestly get that $4 for a gallon of gasoline is outrageous.

    EXCELLENT– ON THE MARK POINT!!!

  12. NOTIMPRESSED Says:

    SAME OLD CRAP…YADA YADA YADA.
IT WAS OKAY WHEN MCLAME USED THE TERM
“LIPSTICK ON A PIG” WHICH BW CAllED HIM ON
BUT TSK TSK HE SAID OBAMA SHOULDN’T HAVE SAID IT. WHO THE H-E-L-L DOES HE THINK HE IS. LOVING THE FOX SHOW..BONNIE HUNT..SO
REFRESHING AND NO BS..A NICE ALTERNATIVE.

  13. Lori Says:

All I saw on the show today was an attack on a Senator that is a war hero and a brillant man. I wouldn’t be surprised if your ratings go down! There are a great number of John McCain supporters as you can see by the latest polls which shows that he is in the lead!

  14. Donusha Says:

INTERESTING!!!! When Barrack Obama was on “The View”, the panel acted like giddy little school girls. Barbara even told Obama that he looks sexy. Huh? When McCain was on the view, they were disrespectful and rude in that they didn’t even let him finish his sentences. C’mon.
I haven’t decided on my vote as yet, but the Barrack campaign can air his “View” segment as a TV endorsement as it was biased, as shown by the panel’s actions.

  15. Mary Alcindor Says:

McCain is so fake. How could he feels justified to the American people that his comment on Lipstick on a pig is still a peg was simply dsscribing his topic, but still feels that Obama was referring to Palin, since when he was asked the question about the negative add, he went right back to defending Palin.
Americans have to review the context of which Obama used the phrase that MacCain previously used. Do not forget that Obama used it b-4 Palin was in the picture. Google search Lipstick on a Pig, you will see that Obama was correct in the context he used it.

  16. Sandy Woodward Says:

    red,

I am not sure Meghan McCain has given much thought to Roe v. Wade.

If it were overturned I don’t she thinks it would affect her much. Remember, if she should find herself in need of one she could just hop on a private flight to France, Sweden or Britian and get the best money could buy. Then return home to one of those 7 homes to be pampered into recovery.

  17. Erin Says:

To say that there was an “air” of tension is a huge understatement! The women of The View don’t like Mr. McCain or anything that he stands for and they seemed to delight in making that point painfully and uncomfortablly obvious.
Their political views are their right. As for the interview, they were anything but professional! They all looked as if they could barely stand to be seated in the same studio (much less the same “couch”)as he was. That showed their immaturity and lack of self control.
As for Whoopi’s STUPID response (to Senator McCain’s answer of what he believes is the responsibility of the Justices on the Supreme Court) that she was afraid she might end up a slave again . . . GIVE ME A BREAK is really all one could say to that!

  18. red Says:

    @sandy

good point. yes, she will always have the option to fly away.

you know, i admit that Palin scares me. I actually had a dream about her wednesday night! i thought i was going crazy but then i guess i’m not the only because yesterday i read an article in which the author admits to having dreamt about her too!

  19. Erin Says:

From all the posts, I see on here, sure holds true that “birds of a feather - flock together”! Or should I say bird-brains!

  20. SH Says:

Joy started with a joke - trying for a relaxed and informal interview. Barbara immediately took over (I think she was pissed that Charlie Gibson got the interview with Sarah Palin). Whoopi was respectful - and asked good questions. Sherri (sorry) didn’t add much. And Elisabeth was fairly quiet - and let McCain and his wife make their points.
    It was okay.
The ladies on the View are not the Sunday morning shows. It has to be more informal. Maybe Barbara should stay home.

  21. Sandy Woodward Says:

    red,

You aren’t going crazy, you are just worked up as are many of us over this election.

We have 53 days left to work. Stay focused.

When I get discouraged, I think about my fav bumper sticker

    1-20-2009
    The end of an Error!

  22. Erin Says:

It is funny that I have left to posts putting the total of responses up to 12 and yet it says there are only 12 reponses and both my posts say they are awaiting moderation - which means what exactly - if you don’t agree, your post is not accepted?

  23. Erin Says:

I meant to say “up to 14″ not 12. Now it is up to 16 but says there are only 13 responses. What gives?

  24. Dee Hatchitt Says:

What brand of crack is Whoopi smoking to pull that “slave” reference out of what McCain said about the role of the Supreme Court? It’s embarrasing to admit to being a democrat with people on the same side obviously interested in furthering their own interests rather than focusing on questions that are relevant to the common good. I’ve been a fan of Whoopi Goldberg for many years but she changed that today. She also lost an avid follower for “The View”. I’ll be looking for programs with integrity not bias

  25. rainlillie Says:

    Red,
How can he say he’ll work with Democrats when his VP trashed Harry Reid? I’m not buying it. From all the things I’ve read about Palin, it’s her way or no way. McCain has been bought and paid for by the right- wing extremists within his party.

Which is why he picked Palin and why he has changed his views on some major issues. Who and their right mind would take the time to right a bill and then turn around and vote against their own bill?

  26. Kelly Says:

The only Democrat McCain would ever appoint is Joe Lieberman (if Joe can decide what he is, a Democrat, or an Independent).

Looks like more war with McCain – and by the way Cindy, women and children have been, are being, murdered in Iraq everyday.

You know, that’s the Joy I fell in love with (so-to-speak)! She asked McCain why he lied on his attack ads, why he sold-out in conforming to the current administration and why he was so offended about lipstick on a pig.

  27. Dana Says:

I am a working mom, my husband has TWO jobs, together we have 3 young children. We save a little for retirement and college, carry a mortgage on a modest 4 bedroom home. We’ve cut back on a lot of things due to the skyrocketing costs. The uncertainty of the economy has us a little nervous about spending. I am 42 years old and believe that this is the most important election of my lifetime. I take it very seriously and read everything I can and try to make my own decisions. I was a Hilary supporter and was disappointed when she dropped out and then wasn’t picked for VP. I have to say as I’ve gotten to know Joe Biden, I do like him but more importantly I don’t think he’s fake at all and I trust him. Since Obama wasn’t my first choice I started taking a look at McCain. He (meaning RNC and his campaign) is a liar. They out and out lie, they distort truths and avoid the important topics that matter to me and my family and to our county. I can’t trust McCain or Palin. I’ve seen, heard and read enough. They avoid topics like the economy, health care, education, taxes only to distort what the Obama campaign is saying. Why don’t they spend money on commericials explaining what their ideas and plans are for our country. I will be voting for Obama/Biden this November.

  28. rainlillie Says:

I thought BW did a good job. Joy started off strong, but didn’t follow up. Not sure why Sherri was there at all. I thought Whoopi could have asked better questions. BW showed why she is a legend IMO. Believe me I’m not a huge fan of hers, but she seemed more on top of it, then a few of the other women on the panel.

  29. rainlillie Says:

“The only Democrat McCain would ever appoint is Joe Lieberman (if Joe can decide what he is, a Democrat, or an Independent)”

    I agree.

  30. Sandy Woodward Says:

Yep, I agree Barbara was not happy that Palin gave first interview to Charlie Gibson.

I think Palin thought she could charm him.

  31. Erin Says:

What a waste. To let people post their thoughts and opiniions, but only accepting them if you agree with what is posted. There are several posts all around mine, that are obviously liberal points of view, that had no trouble being cleared.

  32. Fran Says:

I don’t think the number of houses they own is relevant at all. They make no apologies for the fact that they are filthy rich, thanks to Cindy’s daddy. So what? No one seemed to mind that John Kerry’s new wife was filthy rich thanks to the Heinz fortune. And John Edwards was filthy rich thanks to being a self-made man. And the Kennedys. Get the idea? Many politicians ARE rich. Doesn’t matter one way or the other. Plus, I’m sure like many rich people, the confusion for JM on how many houses they own is how many they use themselves, vs. how many may be investment properties. But it still comes down to ‘who cares’? If I could, I’d have multiple houses, too. :)

  33. Vegas Says:

I thought Joy was extremely disrespectful towards McCain when he first came out. I was shocked at her. You could even hear the audience loudly hiss and gasp. Those innaprpriate remarks right off the bat and then she called him John. She did say ‘Is it ok if I call you John’ of course he is going to say yes, she should not even ask him that. He is a presidential nominee, you automatically show respect calling him senator. Even Whoopi with her ‘can I call you J Mac’. Inapropriate, IMO.

Whoopis facial expressions during the interview, also innapropriate. She is so bad with that.

Barbara.. Wow, she was ruthless in her questioning. I was very impressed that she wasn’t coddling McCain, but asked him and his wife some very point blank questions. Barbara, as annoying as she ,may be sometimes, her interview style is always impressive. I really liked how she posed her questions and demanded straight answers without coming across rude or obnoxious.

Sherri… She just sat there like the dim bulb that she is and contributed nothing. And I just knew that the one question she would ask would have something to do with personal life and nothing to do with any actual issues. ‘How do you do it all?’ SHe asks Cindy. I am surprised she didn’t ask Cindy if John still takes out the trash. @@ Sherri also looks ridiculous trying to come across conservative. That dress on her was terrible and if she thinks wearing her hair in a bun makes her look serious and intellectual she is mistaken. She just looked like she was playing business woman dress up.

Elisabeth..she was amazingly quiet. I find it odd that she was not sitting next to McCain in Joys place. She hardly spoke up or asked questions, you would think there would have been a lot of back patting going on. There wasn’t.

What did everyone think about Joys comments especially? She was way out of line, maybe even more innapropriate then Elisabeths jab at Michelle Obama? Was she just really nervous? Because I really don’t think she was intentionally trying to be disrespectful, unlike Elisabeth with Michelle.

I think Cindy McCain comes across like a very cold woman, and I didn’t like how she avoided answering Barbaras question to her about how many houses do they own.

And I don’t think she misunderstood Whoopis question about Roe v Wade and I think she agrees with Sarah Palin fully. She said she is pro life but pretended to get confused when asked to directly answer if she is against abortion even in cases such as rape or incest.

  34. ldyson Says:

I am a well educated woman who has voted for both candidates from both parties, specifically voting for Clinton in the primaries and considering Obama this fall. I have never written a response to a television show but feel compelled to object to the lack of respect shown to John McCain by Barbara Walters. This election is a serious matter and all candidates must be ready to respond to tough questions. I am repulsed, however, but interviewers from both sides of the potitical spectrum who feel they must be rude in order to show their distain for the candidate ad his positions. I wish the media would get over itself and after watching this segment intend to seriously consider the McCain/Palin ticket. I will never watch another program featuring Walters, whether a serious news piece or entertainment fluff.

  35. Erika Says:

Rain, I agree; BW really called him out on some things.

  36. Diane Says:

I have been a fan of Barbara’s for a long time but as of today no more. She was so rude to Sen. McCain, not letting him talk, kept interropting him. How dare her! Now we know who she is voting for.

  37. Vegas Says:

    Also want to add..
Elisabeth so proudly stated in her jab about Michelle Obama that Cindy McCain has NOTHING TO HIDE…well then why didn’t she eagerly answer Barbaras question? All she had to do was tell her how many homes they own. Oh… but that has nothing to do with the election, and she certainly has nothing to hide. Right Elisabeth?

  38. rainlillie Says:

    Fran,

Were you living in the United States in 2004? All I heard from the right-wing is: Kerry married his wife for her money… Kerry looks French and the an oldie but a goodie… Kerry is an “elitist.”

Who made a big deal about Edwards haircut?

McCain tried to paint Obama as an elitist and now the shoe is on the other foot, we’re told it doesn’t matter how many homes the McCain’s own.

McCain is out of touch, here’s what he said last night.

“I admire mayors. Listen, mayors have the toughest job, I think, in America.

It’s easy for me to go to Washington and, frankly, be somewhat divorced from the day-to-day challenges people have.”

  39. red Says:

i didn’t watch the show but if Elisabeth was rather quiet as a commenter mentioned upthread, it’s because they must have told her to shut up before the show. They won’t make her apologize for her nasty comment but i think that she must have been talked to about it.

  40. Rebecca Says:

First of all, let me say, Rowe v. Wade was a bad decision! That is my opinion, that is his! We do not disrespect you for your views, don’t disrespect us for ours!!!!! If it is so important for a woman to have a ‘choice’ to take a life because she was a victim of rape or incest, why do we not also hand her a gun and give her that same choice to take the life of the person who raped her! What we have here is legalized murder!! It is barbaric!
Secondly, Barbara Walters DID make a fool of herself asking Cindy McCain how many houses she owns! There are a lot of prosperous people in this nation and they are not to be faulted for that! That was a completely ignorant question!
But, the low point of all of it was Whoopi Goldberg suggesting that John McCain was implying that she return to slavery!!!!! WOW!!!! How much of a fool can you be! There are a lot of people in this country, including you Whoopi, who would hold back the progress we have made as a great nation.
Liberals believe that ordianary people CANNOT do extraordinary things. That is the basis of their beliefs, that is why they want a socialist government that does everything for them. All I can say, is kudos to Joy Behar for at least being respectful, even though I don’t agree with a word she says!
John McCain and his wife Cindy have substance and conviction and have accomplished more in their life to help the lives of others than any of the other women who were sitting on that couch! It was an embarassment to see their actions and the actions of the ignorant audience who clapped and cheered in all the wrong places!!!!

  41. rainlillie Says:

Joy did a good job IMO, she asked tough questions and she should have followed up on a few. If McCain wants Roe v. Wade overturned, he should just come on out and say it. Why all the double talk?

  42. Sandy Woodward Says:

    Fran,

Filthy rich is one thing. Morally bankrupt is not a quality I want in this nation’s leader. So it is important that we get ask questions and see real debates between the candidates.

For me having multiple houses just means multiple things to keep up and more property taxes to pay. I am just as curious about the McCain’s holdings in houses as I am curious as to their holdings in stocks or other assets and investments.

The McCain’s finances are on the table that includes their houses.

  43. DL Says:

I also think BW did a fantastic job. It’s the best I’ve seen of her in years. I was just happy they didn’t let Elis run the whole interview. To be honest, the more I see that man the more I DON’t like him.

  44. Erika Says:

Why couldn’t Cindy just answer the # of houses question? I feel like EH interrupted and gave her an out, when BW might have pushed a direct answer. Most likely, the puppet master directed the covenient break to commercial.

  45. misslingdow Says:

#24 Rain may I also add that Obama’s recent visit back to the state where he was BORN and RAISED to visit his elderly grandmother who raised him and still lives in Hawaii, Came under fire by the repub’s as being exotic and out of touch because many of the American’s he courts can not afford such a luxury vacation.

The biggest issue is that Johnny boy lost count of how many homes he has while many, many American’s are being kicked out of their homes.

I am grateful that Joy told Johnny boy to his face that the ad’s he is currently running are blatant lies, and wanted to know how he could run such untruths, he really had no answer. Let’s not forget

  46. rainlillie Says:

    I agree Dl,

BW was outstanding! She had control of the interview early on.

    Erika,
Cindy was invasive about the house question.

Huff post has the videos up.
    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/09/12/mccain-grilled-on-the-vie_n_125972.html

  47. rainlillie Says:

My bad ,that should say Cindy was “evasive.”

  48. rainlillie Says:

    misslingdow,
I forgot about that. McCain keeps saying if Obama would just do a town hall meeting with him. Things would be a lot more civil. That sounds kind of nutty to me.

  49. Diane Says:

If you had inherited a large estate from your father to include running his business and you were successful in maintaining a highly profitable business, would you not invest in real estate? If you were smart, you would. She is a business woman, mother, and wife like most of us. Very few of us will ever be First Lady. Why would anyone resent her financial status? What difference does it make? People in that level of politics ususally have a strong financial background either from marrying into it or like the Kennedy’s…the family fortune. What puzzles me the most is why anyone would find any value in the opinions of those four women on The View. It’s a mystery why Americans are drawn to shows like that.

  50. Sandy Woodward Says:

The audience seemed very full and lively for a real Friday show.

  51. rainlillie Says:

    Diane,
It wasn’t a problem until the McCain campaign tried to make Obama into a rich snob.

  52. Diana Says:

WOW!! What an interview… Senator John McCain is a hero in my book! If he would have known that he was walking into the lions den, I don’t know if he would have been so gracious, as he was to most of those bitches!! (3 of them) Aren’t journalists supposed to be non- partisan? Especially Barbara Walters!! The forever gracious “has given her life to journalism Barbara WA WA” has ruined my opinion of her, as well as my entire household! I am aghast! Her attack and look of loathing was very apparent on her face and her body language! How dare Barbara Walters treat a hero with such a lack of respect? I will not go into all of the wonderful things Sentor John McCain has done through his tenor as a war hero, or in Washington, but it will always outweigh anything that Barbara W. has ever done or will do… I was a longtime viewer of the View, and I have never seen such a lack of respect. I have just watched my last episode of the view. Sorry Elizabeth and Sheri! I am sure Barbara W. would never attack B. Obama in this manner, because frankly he has no record to speak of. 4 years in the senate…. And 2 of them he has spent campaigning…. Now that choice spells ignorance! No wonder the Republicans keep on getting hit with hard questions, and being put into precarious situations time and time again…. We are smart enough to handle the punches.
Think about that my fellow Americans, keep your cash in your pockets and choose wisely. God help us!

  53. Sarah Says:

“It wasn’t a problem until the McCain campaign tried to make Obama into a rich snob.”

Exactly. McCain is showing himself to be more and more of a hypocrite with each passing day.

  54. Sandy Woodward Says:

“What puzzles me the most is why anyone would find any value in the opinions of those four women on The View.”

    Diane,

So did you purposely refer to those four women — because you find one of the five women of The View has an opinion you value.

I guess John and Cindy McCain find value as they were on today and have appeared in the past and John was angling for another appearance today.

You must have some interest as you are posting on a site about opinions of The View.

  55. Dara Says:

Ive lost touch with the view recently…and boy am I glad Ive come back to it again! I have to say Whoopis face was priceless throughout the interview! Everytime either Mr or Mrs McCain said something evasive or twisted an answer Whoopi would get this look on her face as to say “yeah right!” Im curious to see if anyone else feels the way I do about the Palin choice, Im insulted as a female! The way I see it, she was only chosen because she is a female…like to say ok all you Hilary fans can now vote for McCain because we now have a female! Hmmm…it just feels very insulting to me!

  56. Diane Says:

I don’t recall anyone calling Obama a rich snob. I do, however, recall him being referred to as having an “elitist attitude.” I’m not certain but I believe the definition includes those who feel their views to be taken most seriously and carrying the most weight. That could easily describe most politicians.

  57. Real Says:

    >>berndoubt Says:
Did I really hear Barbara Walters tell Sherri not to worry, because “us white people will protect you”?<<
Yes, that is what the old bird said.
If Sherri or Whoopi believe that I have two words for them:
    Star Jones.

  58. Winnie McCarthy Says:

NOTE: To all the new commenters waiting to have comments approved, please be patient. The website has received a lot of new commenters and it will take time for me to go thorough all of the pending comments.

New visitors, please view the comment policy.

Also, I have posted videos of the interview in a separate entry: http://www.watchingtheview.com/video-of-john-mccain-on-the-view-september-12th/

  59. misslingdow Says:

Diane– Check out the Huffington Post be sure to read the comments about The Views interview- the View is getting kudos for asking the questions that main stream media was afraid to ask. It has been a while since I have actually liked a View show and thought the show was relevant again. I probably haven’t thought much of the show since Rosie left.

  60. Sandy Woodward Says:

“It’s a mystery why Americans are drawn to shows like that.”

    Diane,

It is just like with any other American minority when they first see a representation of themselves on tv they tune in and watch. Good or bad and discuss it.

The View is the first of its kind. A panel of women discussing current events.

  61. rainlillie Says:

I never said that they called him a “rich snob,” I said they tried to paint him as one.

    Remember this:
“He’s the guy at the country club with the beautiful date, holding a martini and a cigarette that stands against the wall and makes snide comments about everyone who passes by.”
    Karl Rove

  62. rainlillie Says:

    misslingdow,
I just read the comments over there. I agree with you about the show. I watched today, because I wanted to see how the interview would go.

  63. Sandy Woodward Says:

    Winnie,

Congratulations — sounds like this site is on the political map.

  64. Sandy Says:

    Thanks Winnie,

I did get to see the show, and watched and listened with interest.
I don’t have any complaints about any of the host. I thought they ask a few tough questions that needed to be ask and answered. I also feel that Barb did a very good job.

As for how many houses they own. I understand the reasoning for the question, but I think most people already know the answer, if they own a computer or watch any TV.

  65. Kelly Says:

It’s not about the houses, or how many houses, or how they came about them…its what they represent - its McCain’s relate-ability to the average American.

The average American who has lost a job, a home, a pension…
The average American who is struggling to buy food, utilities and gasoline…
The average American who makes a living off of $50,000 or less…again, or less
The average American who cannot afford their prescriptions…

Is McCain aware of the new burdens facing middle-Americans today because of bad economic policy and payouts to special interests?
McCain thinks medium income is $5 million.

    He is unaware.

  66. misslingdow Says:

“He’s the guy at the country club with the beautiful date, holding a martini and a cigarette that stands against the wall and makes snide comments about everyone who passes by.”
    Karl Rove

LOL Rain — I forgot about that quote and if everyone will pardon the expression isn’t that a case of the pot calling the kettle black.

  67. susieq Says:

sandy woodward, i bought my husband the tshirt of your fave bumper sticker…he was afraid people wouldn’t know the difference between error and era…kinda proves the point about the last 8 years

  68. Sandy Woodward Says:

    susieq - lol

  69. Linda Andresen Says:

If McCain had any warning about this interview, he would
have cancelled his appearance this morning!!! You ladies
are fabulous - just get at the truth. I think that if BW
had been given the Palin interview, the Republicans
would be screaming!! Thanks for a great hour that will
be replayed for the whole country to see.

  70. Real Says:

The show would have been alright if it had just been BW and Joy. EH evidently is in hot water and it is rumored that her days are numbered- not sure if that is true or not.

WG’s slavery remark IMHO was just stupid, and her idiotic facial expressions were unprofessional. I say this as a black person, before anyone thinks this is some “racial comment.” Slavery- get real. This is from a woman who sat and watched her then boyfriend (ted danson) perform in black face years ago at her friar’s roast, and thought it was funny. She needs to stop acting like she’s some civil rights activist- she’s not. If slavery returns, at least she can get into her gas guzzling bus, and high tail it to Canada and live in luxury.

Sherri, well, I’ve always thought she was not bright, and today just confirmed it. She should have taken the day off and had some pinkberry.

  71. susieq Says:

rain, misslinglow, would this country club they were talking about obama being at, would it have been the restricted one the bushes once belonged to? my right wing decoder ring tells me elists means intelligent and well educated

  72. rainlillie Says:

Gotta earn those McCain bucks. It’s just so obvious, this site much have been in the latest memo that went out. You think we’ll get one of those.. I use to be a democrat, now I’m voting for McCain..LOL! :)

    misslingdow, LMAO! :)

  73. rainlillie Says:

    susieq:

Good point. Obama probably wouldn’t be able to get into some of those clubs.

  74. SHELLIAH Says:

Senator John McCain going to The View is like Daniel being put in the den of lions. Any one who has ever seen The View knows that the view is a liberal one for the most part. It’s a little obvious that the only conservative person on the show is Elizabeth and many times she is attacked for her conservative views. Believe it or not there are still many conservatives left in the United States and just because you are a conservative and have those views doesn’t mean your show has to be so biased. I have watched and listened to both candidates because I am neither democrat or republican, but I find myself aligned mostly with John McCain and feel he is more readily equipped with experience to be the President. By the way there is no separation of Church and State, that came from the Communist Manifesto. The separation means government keeps their nose out of the churches business not that Christians, Believers (or what ever you want to call those who follow the Bible) keep their nose out of the Government. Whether or not people like to accept it people came to this country and it was founded on Christianity. We accept all religions in this country that is true but our basic laws and beliefs came from the Bible. Joy, Whoopi and Barbara and sometimes I feel Sherri, need to try to live in most of the other nations in the world you live by their rules not by your own and you don’t go to a country founded on another religion and expect them to change because of what you believe just like no one should come to this country and try to tell us what we should believe or do. We all have our opinions and views and that is what makes America the country it is, but still remember the founding fathers prayed to the God of the Bible, the founding fathers believed in the God of the Bible and the founding fathers would “roll over in their graves” if they came back today and saw how hated Christians and Believers of the Bible are in America today. Stay strong Elizabeth because it looks like you stand alone in your view. (Except when the election is over we shall see if there aren’t others who are not on TV whose views are more like yours!)

  75. FireElisabeth Says:

“EH evidently is in hot water and it is rumored that her days are numbered- not sure if that is true or not.”

We can only hope that they are, but somehow I doubt it. However, I still hope.

  76. Diane Says:

I watched today because John and Cindy McCain were being interviewed. In my opinion no presidential nominee should go on a “talk” show. Bring back the presidential debates. Candidates should be asking these questions to each other…face to face…on national television.

  77. Mary Alcindor Says:

Sen.McCain boasted on the RNC nominee, that he never really love his country until he was away from her(America),while he was in the prison camp. I suppose he suddenly realized how lucky to be an American while he was safe at home.
Could you explain, why his statement was taken by its face value and there wasn’t an outcry by the Media and Americans? While Michelle Obama was chastised and she was forced to explain over and over again, her true patriotism because she said, for the first time she feels like an American,(even though herself is not running for President). The Media has to stop the propaganda and act responsibly. Michelle statement was made when she was overwhelmed and excited to be blessed by the fact that Dr Martin Luther Kings’s dream had finally come true…She and her husband Barack have been given (at last)the opportunity to get closer to becoming the President and 1st black Lady of the White House, (not just by African/American but by the United States of America Citizens).
Was this not prejudice at its best? Michelle’s statement was taken out of context and McCain’s was conveniently ignored by the Media. I would like the View to re-visit this.
McCain did not voluntarily joined the Army. Like all families during his youth period, he had no choice but to follow the family wishes and demands. Now a days, children have a mind of their own.

  78. Sandy Woodward Says:

    Diane,

From your lips to McCain’s ears. He doesn’t like debates. He likes Town Hall meetings.

  79. Real Says:

Yes, there’s a blurb here about some fallout btwn BW and EH:

    http://www.celebitchy.com/are_elisabeth_hasselbecks_days_on_the_view_numbered.html

  80. misslingdow Says:

I hope Saturday Night Live dedicates their whole show to McCain/Palin sketches with some Bush sketches in between. It will show how over the top this pair is and will get the folks on the fence to realize that “The Emperor Is Wearing No Clothes!”

  81. Sandy Woodward Says:

    Mary Alcindor,

Couldn’t agree with you more. His free media pass is cracking. He has to do something now that he has never had to do. That is, defend his record and the record of his running mate whom he hardly knows.

Let’s face it, it is hard enough to keep ones owns lies straight — let alone yours and a pistol packing momma you just met. Wow, I almost feel sorry for him.

  82. Valerie Says:

It’s about time! Whether you thought they were rude or not, whether they were a bit aloof or not - the ladies of the view at least attempted to ask some of the hard questions everyone (normal people) want to know. AND, I pray that if Barack, Joe, and Sarah sit on that stage - they will be subjected to the same.

I agree with an earlier post of yours - BW acted as though she had something to prove. But, I admit, I liked this side of her.

See, Erin, your post did make it. :-)

  83. Tina Says:

I watched today’s show with mixed feelings. I am not a republican nor do I plan to vote for McCain, with that said I want to say how disrespectful I felt Barbara, Joy and Whoopi were being.

Immediatlely Barbara came across as very rude, demanding answers and even suggesting that she was sorry she asked the question when McCain’s answer was too long for her, that i felt was very disrespectful.

I like the fact that Joy asked those questions but I hated the manner at which it was done.

They did attack him, asking him questions and cutting him off while he was answering, then just all hitting him at the same time with remarks or questions.

I don’t remember Barack getting that same type of treatment and while I am voting for Barack, I think The View could have still asked those questions without the attitude.

  84. Real Says:

    Mary-
McCain’s patriotism will never be questioned b/c of the fact that he has served in the military and has been in the house/senate for so long and he is white.

Michelle Obama’s patriotism will be questioned because she is a black civilian who attended a church led by a black “radical” minister. Oh yes, and Michelle Obama also had to stand in front of the whole world at the DNC to prove that she was just like everyone else- when clearly she is far above the average American. She is a smart, intelligent, Ivy League educated newly minted millionaire who lives in a mansion. She is not average. She is not typical. She is extraordinary. Her level of achievement exceeds most blacks AND whites.

However, Barack Obama diminished MLK to a “preacher from Georgia” in his acceptance speech. Barack’s quest to be “post-racial” may end up costing him the election if he is not fully aware that there is still much work to be done.

  85. Diana Says:

Tina- I agree with you 1000%! I just wished that the old bird and her cronies would have treated Senator McCain with as much respect as he deserves… and for the record, I am a Democrat and I am voting for McCain! I made that decision in June!

  86. rainlillie Says:

    Tina,
Have you ever asked somone a question and you knew that their lying to you? It makes you frustrated and I think that may have been some of what was going on with BW and Joy. I’m glad they didn’t hold back. The so called MSM has been doing the voters a disservice for days now.

  87. rainlillie Says:

If McCain can’t handle the women on the View how is he going to protect us? At least he wasn’t asked why he didn’t wear a flag pin.

  88. Dee Says:

Diane: “Think about that my fellow Americans, keep your cash in your pockets and choose wisely. God help us!”

I like to think about my fellow citizens who are losing their homes, jobs and healthcare, while the Bush Republicans are holding onto their cash. I also worry bout those soldiers who are coming home to limited benefits that McCain deemed unworthy to grant. You are right, God help us if McCain/Palin steal another election.

Looks like Winnie’s site is on a new list. Welcome newbies, although I don’t think you were fans of The View anyway just here to tell us how rude the ladies were because they called your guy out on his pandering and lies.

  89. wendee Says:

    Oh Please!!

All these people claiming it isn’t fair to McCain because of the grilling. He is running for PRESIDENT, and he is a war hero who has been through hell and succeeded to tell about it, and you think he is afraid or should be felt sorry for because of women on the View being too harsh? Aren’t you selling your candidate a little short? If people ask tough questions of Palin, it’s sexist, if we ask of McCain it’s elitist. This is IMO the most important decision of modern times, and we don’t have the time nor luxury of being subtle. And seriously, why does no one care about the environment at all? If I did have that much money, I would not buy seven houses, but take a real look at what in a world of global warming that can do to the environment, and that is an important issue, which coincidently, Sarah Pallin flip flopped on recently about. Get Real!

  90. Chris Says:

    right on wendee!

  91. rainlillie Says:

“Looks like Winnie’s site is on a new list. Welcome newbies, although I don’t think you were fans of The View anyway just here to tell us how rude the ladies were because they called your guy out on his pandering and lies.”

    Dee,
    haven’t you heard…
    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/05/20/mccain-campaign-comment-t_n_102696.html

  92. Diana Says:

Well on the subject of losing homes, they should have read the fine print… I know I did when I bought my home. Who thinks they can buy a home for 400,000.00 and only pay 1000.00 per month? Come on? And I am sure they bought their hummers and rock pools on a line of credit that they never intended on paying….. Well if you feel sorry for them, then you should vote for O-bam-a… because you will end up helping to pay their mortgage for them!!

  93. Dee Says:

    Diana,

Didn’t this administration just rescue Fannie and Freddie? We are paying now. Phil Gram, McCain’s economic wizard, helped create the mortgage crisis. We discussed this several weeks ago.

  94. Erika Says:

    Wendee, ITA!

  95. concerned Says:

I had previously vowed to not watch the View. After reading the comments today, I think I may tune in again.

I understand that Barbara, Joy, and Whoopi asked some tough questions - asking tough questions should not be considered as being rude.

EH’s comment about Michelle Obama WAS being rude!

I think Sherri can be a great co-host if she speaks her mind more often and not just agree with EH all the time.

  96. Deborah Says:

I have had ENOUGH of Elizabeth Hasselbeck. If she had an original thought, I might feel differently. She is a parrot of Sean Hannity, who, in MY VIEW, has ZERO crediblity.

P.S. The cost of Cindy McCain’s convention wardrobe would’ve helped to offset several home foreclosures in my community!

  97. Sarah Says:

Well said wendee. Last night I went to abc’s website to read up on the Palin interview and there were so many people in their whining about how Charles Gibson was unfair to Palin and how he was downright cruel to her (that’s right, someone actually used the word cruel). Who are these people who actually want to elect someone without even hearing where they stand on the issues. If they are so confident in their candidate then why do they want everyone to go so easy on them? I watched Obama on many tough interviews, and Biden on Meet the Press (and he was asked much more difficult questions than McCain or Palin have been asked) and he handled it with calm, and ease, and complete answers. I want Obama and Biden to be asked tough questions, because I have no doubts that they can handle it. McCain and Palin, on the other hand, clearly cannot.

  98. Sandy Woodward Says:

    Rainlillie & Dee,

    Yep, they’re heeeeere!

  99. Valerie Says:

Diana - many people bought their homes on ARM (adjustable rate mortgages). The interest rate they started at may have been affordable. After a few years when rates skyrocketed people may have then realized that they couldn’t afford their homes at the new interest rate. Many of them had their mortgages double. Think about it, who budgets to pay double their mortgage payment. Having said that, there are obviously those individuals who got into that situation out of carelessness. But, must we always throw the baby out with the bathwater? - Just because there are those who abused the system doesn’t mean that everyone who lost or almost lost their home deserved it.

Forgive me if I misinterpreted your post, which is how I interpreted

BW is a journalist, Joy and Whoopi are not. They are US citizens and the last time I checked (but it could have changed with our current administration), they have the right to ask questions of our government and the officials that run it or are hoping to lead it. If McCain can’t take questions from 3 ladies how in the world would he deal with leaders from South Korea, Iran, Russia, China… give me a break. I can’t stand the hyprocrisy coming from Republicans thats one thing driving me to vote for Obama. I’m tired of the childish behavior from McCain and Palin. If you can’t take the heat get out of the Kitchen.

  101. Kelly Says:

    It’s raining Trolls

McCain must have millions of them.

“I used to be a democrap, and now, no, cause, Walters asked too many questions…and McCain, well, he can’t hear…and…you’re all birds of somesort…cause, if McCain wins, I can go on pretending I’m an elitist too…like Diana - who just doesn’t get it…”

Oh, and Diana #91– actually, you will be paying off everyone’s mortgage – no matter who is elected.

Your beloved Republican administration just bailed out Fannie and Freddie. Several years ago, the Republicans loosened the lending provisions for their bank buddies, and now the Republicans have given you your worst nightmare…a $400,000 mortgage for a home you don’t even live in (maybe some Democrat does!!!)!

    You lose. Thank the Republicans.

    (Winnie - you need Troll-repellant).

  102. Sara Says:

I can not believe how rude Barbara was to Senator McCain. She constantly talked over McCain and never allowed him to defend an answer. Saddened how someone that I used to think was just one of the classiest ladies in Journalism, behave so much like a child who had just lost a game of chess.

I adore Elizabeth and her attempt to defend McCain from a table of catty behavior.

They should drill McCain, and give him really tough questions, but also be respectful enough to allow the man to speak.

  103. Chris Says:

i am so proud of whoopi and BW today i just have to add

  104. Rebecca Says:

    Way to go Diana!

And to Dee, the housing crash is in huge part to irresponsible lending! Banks were granting loans they had no business granting. And as far as paying their mortgages for them, you will be!!!! As for the other problems we are facing, it is due to the Arab nations who control oil, hate our guts and celebrated yesterday even as we were mourning over the loss. People forget, 9/11 was the worst attack on our soil ever! And you better believe, it will happen again if they get their chance. I don’t agree with the Bush administration totally, but they have kept us safe the last 7 years. McCain, I feel, can keep me safe!

  105. Kelly Says:

At least we’re not talking about Palin anymore.

  106. Sandy Woodward Says:

    Diane,

I guess according to your McCain reasoning there were three B****es and one C**t as he lovingly refers to his wife of 28 years.

He is running for President not His Royal Highness to be sat on a cushion and packed.

  107. Dee Says:

Rebecca are you putting lipstick on Phil Gramm’s scam?

  108. Stacee Says:

“No one seemed to mind that John Kerry’s new wife was filthy rich thanks to the Heinz fortune.”

    Au contraire!
The right bashed him, called him a gigolo, a “kept man”. They also inferred that because Teresa and John K had a prenup that she did not trust him. And if she couldn’t trust him, how could we?
Guess what, Cindy and john have a prenup. Aren’t the same people (right wingers that were saying that about John K) concerned with the lack of trust there? Hmmm, something tells me no.

    Wendee, well said!

  109. Diana Says:

It is just my opinion that people who take out an ARM loan should budget for the worst situation, and not expect that low rate that they have will continue. Whether it is the Republican’s or the Democrat’s bailing them out, it is still wrong for us taxpayers to have to pay for their shortsightedness.

  110. wendee Says:

Whenever Republicans cannot win an argument they use “at least Bush had kept me safe for 7 years”. We may be safe from terrorism (although I don’t think we have enough knowledge of that to know), but I am not sure people who are losing their homes, jobs, or debate on whether or not they can afford their medication feel that safe.

  111. Chris Says:

    go wendee!!!!!!!!

  112. Bitter Gun Holding PA Woman Says:

Woah—lost all respect for the view—it should be renamed “our view only”. Take a look at the replay ladies and think. Are you even close to doing the public a service or is your goal just to be nasty? This is why women don’t get the respect they deserve. Try some self control. You sounded like a bunch of stage moms whose kid didn’t get the part you wanted them to have. Both sides need to be heard —but I guess that won’t happen on your watch. This is one view I don’t ever need to see again.
    EH—run —run away!!!!!

  113. Sandy Woodward Says:

    wendee,

It is a bunch of BS. He did nothing to keep us safe.

And why haven’t we found the tallest man in Afghanistan who is walking around with a portable dialysis bag.

  114. Rebecca Says:

Oh, and also, no one is saying that he didn’t handle the questions! He handled them great! McCain knew what he was gonna get when he went there, and he still went! If Obama is so brave to answer tough questions with, how did you put it Sarah, ” with calm and ease and complete answers”, why won’t he let Sean Hannity interview him? He has turned down that interview! Why? Because he doesn’t answer a question! Oh sure, he gives a great, elegant, long-winded answer with big words that sound great, but he never actually answers a question! At least McCain goes to all the shows, conservative or liberal. When, besides the faith forum at Saddleback Church, has Obama done that!? And whoever complemented the “main stream media” above, I don’t even know what to say! The media is hellbent on discrediting Palin, but have just pushed under the rug the fact that Obama spent 20 years in a church that preaches heavy anti-American propaganda, and the fact that Obama is in very close relationship with a terrorist bomber who has planted bombs in our country on many occasions. Why is this not being repeated over and over as many times as they replay any thing they have on Palin.

  115. Kelly Says:

Trolls - the way of McCain.

    Lies, Deceit, Tampering, Hate.

You Trolls…were never Democrat. You don’t have any heart.

    So un-American.

    How easy you lie.

  116. Kelly Says:

    Republicans sound nervous.

Obama is pulling ahead in the polls.

    The Palin effect has reversed.

She was horrible with Gibson. Fraud.

McCain was horrible as well. Couldn’t handle the ladies of The View. Lies. Lies. Lies.

    It’s over. Obama wins.

  117. Rebecca Says:

If, God forbid, we get Obama in the White House, I will be doing a lot of praying! He has repeatedly fumbled in answering questions about military strategy and policy, and his plans would decrease our military. Under the Clinton administration our military was drastically decreased and terrorists were able to get into our country and mobilize the greatest attack we have ever had.
And by the way, the Bush administration is credited with stopping many attacks since 9/11!
Anyways, if BW is so-called “journalist”, she is supposed to behave with bi-partisanship, and respect, and that is the issue here. They should feel ashamed of themselves!

  118. Kelly Says:

Sandy Woodward! #109 (for the time being).

Didn’t you hear? Palin is going to get Osama bin Laden! That’s what she told Charlie.

    You betcha!

  119. Stacee Says:

    Rebecca Says:
“When, besides the faith forum at Saddleback Church, has Obama done that!? ”

He was on OReilly the other night.
He has on Chris Wallace a couple of months ago. He has done countless radio a news interviews. He went toe to toe with Jon Ralston, a political pundit in Nevada. Take a look!
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4bWwlDk1cug

Anyone who thinks Obama will not face opposition is DELUDED.
Biden is another person that is willing to be interviewed on various shows. he holds his own.
    They have a great ticket - Obama/Biden ‘08!

  120. Stacee Says:

Kelly, McCane will get Laden ( though the White House now says another person was the mastermind behind the 911 attacks). He knows how to do it and he’ll follow him to the gates of hell!

  121. Dee Says:

“At least McCain goes to all the shows, conservative or liberal. When, besides the faith forum at Saddleback Church, has Obama done that!?”

Obama sat down with O’Reilly, which Faux News is squarely in McCain camp. I think Obama was set up for Saddleback and I no longer respect Rick Warren. When McCain answers a question before it is asked, the fix was in. As for the town hall meetings, Obama would do them but he won’t agree to McCain’s demands. Like Lil Bush, McCain prefers the town halls but only under his rules.

I don’t think McCain expected to be grilled today or it would have never happened. Babs will have to wait a year or two for an invite after today…assuming he wins.

  122. Rebecca Says:

Wow Kelly! Are you trying to be a poet?

  123. Kelly Says:

Wow Rebecca, are your really trying to attack everyone on The View, AND everyone on this site? Do you have enough hate to go around? Don’t spread yourself so thin girl.

  124. Babe2 Says:

    YES!

I’m so glad for the ladies of the View. They asked the questions people are afraid to ask and they were nice and respectable but tough. McCainiacs are PISSED because their emperor has no clothes and his campaign is beginning to unravel. He had a good convention and a good week but he couldn’t keep Palin under wraps forever and people actually saw her yesterday and didn’t like what they saw. McCainiacs are blaming Gibson for Palin’s bad interview.

    YES WE CAN!

    KNOW HOPE.

  125. Sarah Says:

“At least McCain goes to all the shows, conservative or liberal. When, besides the faith forum at Saddleback Church, has Obama done that!?”

The Obama question has already been answered in post #118, so I won’t waste anyone’s time by repeating it. But would you care to elaborate on all the shows McCain has appeared on lately. I saw him on Face the Nation where he was asked softball questions. He has been invited onto Larry King Live and Meet the Press, but so far he has declined to go on.

  126. Babe2 Says:

Sean Hannity is a racist. Watch his show sometimes. No self-respecting human being would go on his show. No decent person would watch that show. Hasselbeck is slowly morphing into Ann Coulter because of watching Hannity.

  127. Winnie McCarthy Says:

You should see the comments I am NOT letting through. It’s been a long day already. That is not to mention the 80+ direct emails I have gotten criticizing my(the View’s) treatment of McCain. Did I mention I am not The View? :)

  128. rainlillie Says:

I use to watch the view, I’m not watching anymore. I can’t believe the way those liberals treated McCain. They crossed the line asking him tough questions. I would rather have heard about Cindy’s recipes. Now I’m voting for everything that I use to be against.. McCain/ Palin 08.

Just kidding! That felt kind of yucky. I just had to try it.. seems to be the fad these days.

  129. rainlillie Says:

LOL! Winnie. People think you run the View. If only.

  130. Stacee Says:

Winnie, I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again; You’re a trooper! :-D

For those that don’t know: this is not the official View site!

  131. Winnie McCarthy Says:

rainlillie: for a second, I thought someone was posting under your name! :)

  132. rainlillie Says:

    LOL! :)

  133. Diana Says:

    Rebecca- you tell them sista!

Final word- If you want a 2 year experience senator with a lot of advisors telling him what to do… no foreign experience, Vote for O-bam-a. If you want to pay more taxes, and take that hard earned money that you work for every day, every week 50 weeks a year…. Vote for O-bam-a. If you want our government telling us we need to keep our thermostats at 80 or that we need to teach our kids Spanish before English…. Vote for O-bam-a. If you want less of a military presence around the world defending our freedom (like we are expressing here right now) vote for O-bam-a!

But if you want to keep taxes in check, foreign policies running smoothly with a person who has knowledge of them, big interest lobbyists held to ethics standards, secure our borders, leaves no children behind, A Cap-And-Trade System That Would Set Limits on Greenhouse Gas Emissions and keep us safe… VOTE MCCAIN. Thanks for the dialogue.

  134. Stacee Says:

Rain, who cares about recipes. I want to hear about the sex surveys and boobie jokes! ;-)

  135. red Says:

“Under the Clinton administration our military was drastically decreased and terrorists were able to get into our country and mobilize the greatest attack we have ever had.”

why don’t you mention that osama bin laden was aided by the United States to defeat the russians during the Russian-Afghanistan war? And that was not during Clinton’s administration, that was during the Reagan administration. Al-qaeda wasn’t born in the 90’s.

  136. Kelly Says:

    Winnie - you rock!!!

    You too rainlillie.

Guess Watching The View (so you don’t have to) is big time now!!!

  137. wendee Says:

and if you want another four years of Bush vote Mc-Cain

  138. Babe2 Says:

    rainlillie you’re hilarious!

    LOL!

  139. Kelly Says:

    Red #132

Did you know you could see Russia from Alaska (and if you do, you’re an international security expert)?

It’s true - Palin said so. And she’s a Republican after all.

  140. Random Musings Says:

This was exhausting to read and catch up on.

Shelliah…this country was founded on the idea of “freedom of religion”…not that you have to be a Christian. Many of the Muslims and Jews I know are contributing members of our society and deserve the right to practice their religion. Everyone has their right to believe what they do.. or not believe if they don’t. Reminds me of the time when I was told I was not a Christiain because I didn’t belong to a specific Church. No, I belong to what may be the original church..I am a Catholic. Does that mean I do not respect or accept the religious beliefs of others. It does not meant that I think MY way is the ONLY way to worship!

And to those who think I should revere John McCain as a Hero..he was a POW ..possibly heroic, until he came home to a crippled wife, divorced her and married Cindy five weeks later! To me, that is not heroic!!

On ROE vs Wade… I would never personally choose abortion. I do not feel I have the right to make that decision for ANY other woman.

I cannot wait for this farce of an election to be over and I only hope it does bring a change in foreign policy, a change in health care, and a change in the attitude toward windfall taxes! I hope the rich get taxed and the little guy catches a break. I hope the foolishness of the No Child Left Behind Act is corrected. I hope common sense rules this country again!!!!!

  141. Rebecca Says:

Sorry it took me a second to respond. I had to tend to my 3 kiddos. This is a great blog, but I’ve got to go be mommy.
Kelly, I’m not spreading hate, I was just asking if you were doing poetry because of all the weird fragmented sentences and calling people trolls.
Lastly, the point of this discussion is the View today. The point is when McCain went on O’Reilly, he was treated just as tough as Obama. The View however, did not treat Mr. and Mrs. McCain as they treated Obama and his wife. That is what is unfair. From the questions, to the facial expressions, it was rediculous!
Anyways, best of luck ladies. I’ve gotta go!

  142. Babe2 Says:

Anyone else find it ironic that it was Hasselback’s question that dug McCain into a hole from which he can never get out of?

  143. Valerie Says:

Rebecca - regardless of who gets into the white house, I hope you continue to pray for them. Please don’t think for one second that John McCain could run this country without a whole lot of prayer. Besides, I think he will even need more prayer than Barack - after all - we would need to pray for his health. God forbid something happen to him and the VP should take over!

  144. Stacee Says:

Actually, Obama has a 10 year senate record; 7 in the state senate and 3 in the US.
The thermostat is not a mandate but it is wise to lower the thermostat. I know running mine high costs a lot of money so lowering it saves my pocketbook.
The Spanish before English right wing talking point is so ridiculous, it really belies reason that someone would even repeat it.
If less military presence means taking the troops out of Iraq and making the Iraquis start rebuilding using their surplus, well on that alone that he has my vote. Thanks!

  145. Kelly Says:

Goodbyes are always so hard for me…farewell friend.

  146. rainlillie Says:

McCain got his butt kicked today by a 78 year old woman. Now his flock are on this site, trying to convince us otherwise.

  147. Valerie Says:

The View clips on CNN now.

  148. Gary Says:

The program today was outright disgusting and disrespectful to the next US president and first lady. Why did they even have the McCains on the program and certainly Palin should not go on there under any circumstances. BTW, Cindy McCain owns the condos (homes) not John. This type of attack program will just help McCain win the election.

  149. charity Says:

today’s show was crazy Barbara her comment about “us white folk will take care of you ” that has got to be the stupidest comment ever. Miss Sherri was offended I could tell in her body said a million words. ( i think that is why she was so quiet.)

  150. Dee Says:

Bless you Winnie, it reminds me of Monday’s Imus interview with Sally Quinn, who co-moderates “On Faith”, a blog from the Washington Post and Newsweek. She had the nerve to say that Palin wasn’t a good choice for VP. She said she received a huge amount of hate mail, the most vicious attacks ever from Christians calling her every a,b and c word that she can’t say on air, in addition she was called a whore and lesbian (she said as if that is an insult).

So hang tight Winnie, you are in good company!

  151. Michael Says:

the remark Whoopi made about having to worry about being slaves again.

Playing the fear card, and it failed. All she did was expose her lack of education.

And democrats wonder why obama is sinking in the polls.

The more liberal celebrities make fools of themselves (cnn & matt damon- lizards of satan) the more people are trusting the republicans.

McCainiacs are PISSED because their emperor has no clothes and his campaign is beginning to unravel.

    Unravel in your opinion.

    Wow! 8O

  153. Sandy Woodward Says:

    Winnie,

Hang in there and don’t let them swamp you. There will be a second wave after people get in from work.

  154. Sandy Woodward Says:

    Babe2,

Good point. I think it backfired on both of them. I think someone messed up on the talking points.

I think he was supposed to say no. And he expected one of the other to bring up the Supreme Court and Goofed up.

  155. DonnaJ Says:

Whoopi is willing to risk all the headway gained against racism in order to get her candidate elected. Clearly she’s another democrat that will throw any thought out there as long as it creates the end result she desires.

John McCain isnt willing to lose a war to win an election.

BUT Whoopi Goldberg would stir up race relations and fear in order to support her candidate. She belongs in the middle east where her own beliefs supercede the welfare of humanity.

I hope she is aware of how many democrats she turned off today because she is a very stupid and selfish woman.

  156. Beverly Says:

Whoopie’s point was that if McCain wants to appoint “constitutionalists” to the Supreme Court to regress us back to pre-Roe v Wade, does he also intend those “constitutionalists” to re-interpret other rights as well — that is, those rights not in the original constitution. It was a valid question. He’s the one who put it out there.

Of course, returning to slavery sounds outrageous & ridiculous BUT so does returning to backroom butchery.

    ===============================
Oh Winnie - You poor thing - I can only imagine. Yes, Please Hang in There! We sure do appreciate you :)

  157. Beverly Says:

Oh, that’s right … McCain corrected himself and took back “appoint” and offered up the correct word “nominate” … Freudian?

  158. Sandy Woodward Says:

    DonnaJ,

Sorry but I don’t agree with your point. Because I have read a lot of her blogs on wowowow.com — it is far stretch to call her stupid and selfish I wonder if you weren’t grasping for another word to call her.

I know of many democrats that she did not turn off today.

John McCain is willing to start a war to win an election — remember the Bomb Bomb Bomb Iran. McCain and Palin are both warmongers.

  159. Michael Says:

I hope she is aware of how many democrats she turned off today because she is a very stupid and selfish woman.

Obama and his supporters are destroying the democrat party. Of course all the rich celebrities aren’t helping obama connect to middle class voters.

Even the hillary supporters are going for palin.

  160. Kelly Says:

    I smell fear.

That was like the swarm of the locust. And they left a big steamy pile behind…

Yes, blame Gibson for Palin’s incompetence.
Blame The View for McCain’s day of reckoning.
Blame the liberals, the democrats, the media, the Muslims, foreigners, minorities, welfare, Michael Moore, Al Gore, Joy Behar, the rain and the sun and the moon.

They have no one to blame but themselves. Hannity and Rush have brainwashed a nation.

  161. Sandy Woodward Says:

Breaking News from Alaska. Todd Palin supoenaed.

The state Senate Judiciary Committee voted 3-2 today to subpoena 13 people — including the husband of Gov. Sarah Palin — in an investigation of whether Palin abused her power in trying to get her former brother-in-law fired.

If that were Michelle Obama or Jill Biden…..

  162. rainlillie Says:

“She belongs in the middle east where her own beliefs supercede the welfare of humanity. ”

Anyone who tries to impose their religious beliefs upon others, seem to have a lot in common with radicals from other countries.

    Excellent point, Kelly.

  163. Stacee Says:

    Sandy Woodward Says:
“If that were Michelle Obama or Jill Biden…..”

    Yup.

  164. rainlillie Says:

Women against Palin are speaking out.

  165. Michael Says:

I know of many democrats that she did not turn off today.

It’s not just about turning off democrats. Hard core democrats are going to vote for obama despite how little executive experience he has. (Except for those hillary democrats in the link i posted above)

It’s the small amount of independents he has to appeal to.

  166. rainlillie Says:

    Sandy W.

    Thanks, for the info.

  167. Kelly Says:

By subpoenaing Todd, they can override executive privilege on those hundreds of emails Palin is hiding. They will become public.

If you recall, we used emails to fire our local crooks.

  168. Pam Says:

It’s about time someone aske the tough questions to his face! Why should McCain expect Obama to agree to his “town hall” discussions…this sleezy campaign is the consequence of Obama not doing what he wants? PLEASE.I hope this was a start of much more to come. Go Obama!

  169. DonnaJ Says:

    Beverly,
That is not what Whoopi inferred by her comment and everyone that heard it knew it. Obama has more integrity and smarts then to play the race card to create fear and win an election. Good thing he wasnt present though…he may have decided to use his “lipstick on a pig” statement again…only this time it would have won him support from both the dems and the cons.

    Ugly, ugly, ugly!

  170. rainlillie Says:

    Kelly,
I heard a legal expert say, that since her husband wasn’t on the payroll she can’t claim executive privilege.

  171. Joyce Says:

As far as I’m concerned the named should be changed to “The Warped View”. What an embarrassing mess. Barbara Walters should be ashamed of herself for such low blows. The McCains should be commended for sitting in those chairs and speaking with intelligence. I have never been a fan of the show but now I can tell you that I will never watch again.

  172. Kelly Says:

I heard that too - and I agree, but they still won’t turn them over. All emails will become public if they are used in this investigation. McCain’s people are trying to pressure them to call off the investigation.

    What you resist - persists.

  173. Sandy Woodward Says:

I bet she regrets cc:ing the “First Dude”.

  174. Beverly Says:

#165 DonnaJ - It was a pretty deep comment to just throw out there so it’s too bad that W didn’t have time to elaborate for all those who didn’t get her point. But, more explanation probably wouldn’t have mattered for some viewers anyway.

  175. May Says:

Love reading the opinions of you regulars on Winnie’s site. I didn’t watch “McImthebestbutnotreally” today..don’t like hearing silly excuses and the blame Obama game but did like seeing the replays of the ladies asking the questions that we know the answers to but want him to say it out loud (I’m too good at run-on sentences without meaning to be). Winnie you are a good censor..glad you kept out the nasty mean ones. I’m sure they are hard on you but just look how popular you are.

  176. Lala Says:

This was AOL. Is it TRUE??

Barbara Walters has had it with Elisabeth Hasselbeck, dishes Celebitchy. The ‘View’ queen bee cut off her conservative co-host during a particularly heated political debate and said if she couldn’t calm down, she should find a new job. Let’s hear it for no self-control! (Sept. 12)

  177. mibi Says:

can I just say I need to rant about this idea that about judeochristian values founding the country which is true but as a muslim I belive in the ten commandment I belive in the bible (plus some and with come modifications i grant you). and am sure my hindu and doaist ect belive in some basic christain tenets such as do not kill, do not steal or lie ect ect. so the point is mute because religous values they uses are pretty universial ones.
second speration mean speration no gov in church no church ( and no sheliha that does not mean religous poeple it mean religous laws) in gov. we would not only go back to the time of the inquision we would have people being aressted for adultry if we let the too mix.

  178. Jacquie Says:

Did you notice he mentioned his POW status again? *Eyes rolling* Thats right mccain, remind us how you SUFFERED at the hands of the VietCong! (Is that where you sat and made up those filthy demeaning jokes against women and Chelsea Clinton, mister Christian hypocrite?) Get over it, his POW story does NOT make him fit for the presidency, yet I’ve read it over and over-he’s a brave veteran. Guess what: so are millions of other men and women(such as myself!), but that does not make them fit for POTUS! If that is the prerequisite for presidency how about voting in the little alcoholic homeless veteran that lives down by the river? He’s gotten medals for bravery too. He was a POW too. He lives green and recycles bottles and cans.

I also wanted Barbara to be harder on him re: the lying campaign ads. She did bring it up, but I wished she had stood her ground. Those were just two, but almost every mccain ad is incredibly disrespectful (and primarily fictional) to Mr. Obama.

mccain may be a vet, but he gets NO RESPECT from me (I too am a vet). The more I learn about him the more repulsive he is in my eyes. And those are not empty words. I have spent the an incredible amount of time educating myself about the candidates. I have listened, researched, blah blah blah. Who started the nasty campaign ads: mccain. Who has been in politics for 25 years without really making a positive change for average people: mccain (he’s cut taxes for the wealthy but not the middle class). Who has made enemies abroad? mccain. Who hired the same evil man (rove)that ruined his OWN CHANCES for the presidency in the 2004 primaries: mccain. I could go on and on and on but you get the idea—mccain will not get my vote!

  179. MamaChris Says:

    Hi all,
I’m new to this site, but happy to find it. I stopped watching The View because of Elizabeth, but wanted to find out what happened today.
I feel the need to respond re: the nasty comments about Obama and other Democrats re: the military and our safety.
I am retired from the Army. First, the closing of bases under Clinton had been put into the budget by Bush 41!
Second, I think many would be surprised to learn that, as of June, Obama had received 6 times the donations McCain had, from deployed service men and women. McCain has voted against (or, as in the case of the GI Bill which he opposed, not even voted) many issues intended to support and assist veterans. Obama is rated higher by the DAV and IAVA. Look it up. Obama also says he wants to increase the size of the military.

Wake up America, and please do your homework! McCain was POW, but he’s not a good friend of the troops!

And as for Democrats saying they will vote for McCain because of how he was treated today - ridiculous!
If McCain was the maverick he wants us to believe he is, he would have selected his first choice, Lieberman. Instead he caved in to Rush Limbaugh and picked Palin, who is a female George Bush! Governor of a big oil state, who claims be be a reformer. Anyone remember “Reformer with Results”? See what that got us!! Please, please don’t believe for a second that this woman would advance the cause of women in any possible way! If you care about the future of our great nation, you will not vote for another administration run by lobbyists and neo-cons. Thank you for the opportunity to express my opinions!

  180. Kelly Says:

mibi - that is such a fine point.

That clarification has been lost in all of these debates on Separation Between Church and State: “that does not mean religious people, it means religious laws.”

McCain does not seem to understand that - and played to the audience as “an imperfect man of prayer” - and missed the whole point.

  181. Beverly Says:

#172 Mibi - I, too, had a tough time listening to McCain about this country’s religious foundation blah, blah, blah.

I am non-theist and live a good, clean, generous life … just because (no rewards/no punishment). I kept thinking - “praying to avoid temptation” ??? Huh? What temptation!?! What’s prayer got to do with effectively running this country? And, why am I supposed to be reassured that McCain believes “God” has a plan? I want our President-elect to have the plan!!!

I don’t see why “God” must be brought into the management of this country’s business on any level. We don’t hear about the religious (or non-religious) inclination of every CEO of the Fortune 500.

Religion only serves to divide — isn’t anyone paying attention to history!?! Let alone everything else religion touches.

By all means, everyone should practice their own faith, just not our elected leaders - in place of good, sound, BUSINESS judgment.

  182. Pam Says:

After watching the View today I wrote a note to the station. I am sure they won’t read it but I tried. I later decided to check online to see if anyone else found the program disappointing and was surprised that so many people have written about it. Below is what I wrote ABC.

    Dear ABC,
I watch the View off and on. I was excited to see that John McCain was on today. I looked forward to the women of the View interviewing him with some tough questions, which they did. But to my dismay, I felt there was some disrespect, as evident by the “rolling” eyes, especially by Whoopi. I am not saying what my political views are but I will say this - both candidates deserve to be heard without the sideline facial expressions. Tough questions yes, but keep it real. I do understand it is hard not to roll ones eyes in response to statements made that don’t coincide with what that individual believes or can relate to. I wonder how many people rolled their eyes when Whoopi expressed fear over being put in slavery. I think our country has come a long way. That is a time in history that most Americans are not proud of, but to have it thrown out there during this particular interview was pretty far fetched. I also find it humorous when the McCain’s were asked about how many homes they own. Let’s be real here. Pretty much every one of you make more money than the average American. I would be a bit cautious throwing the financial ball out there. Maybe the audience would like to know just how much each of you is worth financially. You each are living the American Dream, just as the McCains are. Unfortunately, most people don’t end up with the overflowing pockets as you and even Senator Obama probably have. And I am sure you all believe you deserve every penny you have earned. I too have been blessed. I do not make near as much as you ladies, but as I have always said to my children - There will always be someone with more than you, and someone with less. It is how we use the money we have that in the end makes a difference.

Like I said, I don’t watch the show all the time, but if Senator Obama comes on (he may have already), I hope that you would be courteous to him as well. The public needs to know the facts, making their own decisions, without so much theatrics from the sidelines.

  183. Cindy'sView Says:

Just wanted to weight in even though I swore I wouln’t watch today, I did…

I was surprized and proud of BW, her usual “keep it nice” seemed to be gone. Perhaps days of emails & calls from us mad about EH forced her to prove she’s not supporting EH by hitting hit hard.

I’m very happy and proud of Joy, b/c she’s a comic she can get away w/saying things straight forward. I’m not sure why I’ve been missing what Joy says on the show, it seems Elisabeth has been drownding her out until this week. I’m so glad Joy is proud to be liberal I remember a time when it was a good thing (before EH’s time). When you listen to women from Joy’s 20’s talk (just like my mother) who tell us how bad it was before abortion was legal you get a better respect for what they fought for and won. To hear anyone and especially McCain/PALIN talk about it being a mistake, BLOWS MY MIND! The way I look at it this way; I don’t really care what your beliefs are (as long as they don’t hurt anybody) but it’s your business what you think and have a consitutional right to them, just don’t infringe on my rights or try to force me to live or believe like you, over turning pro-choice does exactly that! It invades my life by telling me what I can or can not do in my doctor’s office.. a place where my conversation and records are protected by yet they what to sit their asses in the room w/me and tell me what I can or can not dowith my body?! NOWAY, That is imposing their views on me. Respect my individual rights as a human being with free will and leave me alone and I’ll leave you alone. I don’t know what happened I thought we all agreed with that at least as women? Yet here we are in 2008 and we are really having a problem with it, how can this be? Where is the America I thought I knew… Like the crazy people have taken over and we are forced to listen to them (including EH).

As for Whoopi I found myself screaming at the TV “Say something! Speak up! What the hells wrong with you? TALK!” Finally she did on and off and I was glad. I *really* liked her question about church and state
b/c it is a huge problem, again I can’t even believe we are having to ask about. But as for her slave comment, I must say I didn’t do my usual “here we go again…”, but was rather happy to see her make him squirm and “get what she’s saying” although it was out of context it was a black woman making him second guess what he said for fear of insulting an african american. ha!

EH, was smug she acted like they were her parents coming to visit and she did try to help him a few times by sticking her nose in but she didn’t get crazy and scream like she noramlly does so I do think she was told to be quiet. I have news for her, as much as I’m sure she was pulling McCain to come on the show, it wasn’t a good idea. He’s getting bad press out of this and I hope Obama’s camp uses some of his answers in their ads.
My feeling on McCain is he’s 72 yrs old, been in Washington for 26 years if he were that good and was suppose to be president he would have been already. He simply is not meant to be president or he would have been before now. It’s a last ditch effort before he ends his career now.
As for Palin’s interview, this woman is just not intelligent enough for VP, no matter how much she bullshits her way the truth always comes out. And her knowing in her own mind she’s not that smart and still accepting and now going to talk her way into it is the very scarey part. The Bush Doctorine was proof. She absolutely should have known that, it only happened 6 years ago! She needs to do more interviews (and we should demand she does) so more people can understand she’s not a president. But a very loud mouth threating woman who will never back down, that’s a problem. I think it my heart of hearts the person we need to pick as president is not only a person who really does know more than most of us but one who has that something speical, that magic that connects with a persons soul that instantly tells them “I get you, I understand you I will help you, we can work this out” this is a superior negotiator a compationate person, this is the kind of person as president who can defuse major life threatening issues far above the rest of us. Someone impressive. Not a pitbull, someone who can talk tough we can do that. I don’t want just a hockey mom or a guy who’s had 26 yrs to be president but for some reason hasn’t…

ps….who ever caught that Cindy has nothing to hide yet will not tell us how many houses, YEAH!
Oh, I sent SNL an email asking them to do a skit on EH (what she did to Michelle and how she is) I think it would be funny! Can you see her with her hand on her hip the other elbow on the table w/finger pointed the way she does. ha!

  184. Dina Says:

I have been a fan of the view and of Barbara Walters for many years. Up until today I thought Barbara did an excellent job. She always seemed fair and asked tough questions graciously and impartially. Not today. Her questioning of John and Cindy McCain was far from that and definitely different from the way she conducted the interview when Obama was on the show. Will the real Barbara please stand up!!!!!! At least with Whoopi, Joy and Elizabeth…what you see is what you get. I really think Barbara that today you damaged your image. What a shame.

  185. Chris Says:

i think barbara redeemed herself in the eyes of many viewers today who thought she leaned a little too far to the right most of the time actually…she has let Liz blather on and on and unleash her vitrolic point of view for years UNTIL today!

  186. rainlillie Says:

Let’s all chip in and send Winnie a case of troll repellent. Some of this is just as transparent as Cinderella on ice… aka Sarah Palin.

  187. peggy Says:

The ladies of the View need to get their act together. The rolling eyes of Whoopi really showed how unprofessional she can be at times. I usually like her, but today found her behavior to be disappointing.

  188. Chris Says:

    hi rain i agree LOL!

  189. Diana Says:

I found this site after viewing “The View” today, and being outraged at the way the 3 left wing whackos on that show treated Senator John McCain and his wife Cindy.

I came onto this site thinking that a debate with intellectual women would be stimulating, and educational. BUT… what I have found here is that most of the women on this site do are bash and ridicule anyone who has an opinion other than their own. Total ignorance like I said in my earlier comment (54). It is to bad…. I guess I expected to much from the democratic party.

  190. marthe Says:

In god we trust was not on us money until the civil war. It was in the cold war atmosphere of the 1950s that it was made an official motto and that god was added to the pledge of allegiance. And it has been upheld as “ceremonial deism.”

Rosie is taking questions about the show today on her blog.

  191. Beverly Says:

#187 So Diana … does that mean you don’t like us!?! :) And just what are YOU contributing to an intellectual, stimulating and/or educational debate? “Left wing whackos?” Hmmmm. 0 for 3.

Good luck with your search …

(PS Said without Bash or Ridicule — though you sure were quick to offer up both.)

  192. Diana Says:

    Bev-
Well I need to join in on your fun! You are all so ready to dish it so I thought I could take it! Was I wrong…… :0, and BTW I have been contributing since early this AM and I thought I did give some intellectual and stimulating thoughts to ponder…. Did you read them? Or was I wrong again!?! 

    Good night ladies!

If you wanted a dialogue you should have opened your mind about Democrats instead of calling them left wing whackos.

And to remind you about your side I will repost this:
Sally Quinn, who co-moderates “On Faith”, a blog from the Washington Post and Newsweek. She had the nerve to say that Palin wasn’t a good choice for VP. She said she received a huge amount of hate mail, the most vicious attacks ever from Christians calling her every a,b and c word that she can’t say on air, in addition she was called a whore and lesbian (she said as if that is an insult).

  195. Sandy Woodward Says:

    Geez Beverly,

Did you get a shiny new bottle of Troll Repellant today? ;)

  196. Kelly Says:

I miss her already…parting is such sweet sorrow.

    sniff

  197. Beverly Says:

Hey Sandy W. … No, still working with the old bottle — there’s a few good squirts left! Actually, my Mac is still reeling from the blue site Maureen sent me to :0

Diana (btw, I go by “Beverly”) - I have read your posts. And, then I even re-read them. Not a lot of room to really discuss — you make it very clear that you believe what you believe. Maybe you were just looking for like-minded Repubs???? I must say that your comments about the folks caught up in disastrous ARMs and “keeping your money in your pocket” kinda turned me off. I just don’t share that feeling about my fellow-Americans. What’s the point of our military people fighting to “protect” us if on the flip-side we throw our people to the wolves??? (though, there are some people who SHOULD be thrown to the “wolves” :) )

Kelly - Thanks for the heads-up on #178. MamaChris, very important input.

Forget sending Winnie troll repellent — that woman needs some CALGON after this day!!! Wow.

Diana - you should join the fun. Just don’t expect to be agreed with, that’s all. (just kidding, you might be surprised at how many agree with you … Tony? Michael? hahaha)

  198. Sarah Says:

Diana: Yeah I could tell stimulating, intellectual conversation was what you were after when you referred to 3 of the hosts as b*tches and then went on to calls us left wing wakos.

I think you’ll find in forums like this that you get what you give. If you want to have stimulating, intellectual discussions you have to first start by saying something stimulating and intellectual.

  200. carolyn Says:

#4 Kristy, you prove the point people are making, are those typos, or don’t you know how to spell, do you really think there were only four fathers, or is that just a spelling error. Your points appear to all have come from what others are telling you. We are in trouble if all voters are at your level.

I was proud of Barbara Walters, Whoopi and Joy, it is about time McCain was challenged on his hypocrisy, and the choice of a person not ready for prime time as VP. He should not win. Knowing McCain, he asked to come on the show, he thought it would be a snap.

  201. lacey Says:

Just finished watching the McCain interview and I, too, was disappointed. I agree with cici and felt there was a personal agenda being fulfilled by Barbara, Joy & Whoopi (attaching McCain) rather than providing a good interview for us viewers. Do you really believe Palin would want to come on now? There’s many of us trying to make up our minds about this important vote…and it’s obvious that we can’t count on the View to get sound insight…maybe you should stick to interviewing celebrities. You can bet I won’t waste time watching anymore.

  202. marthe Says:

Interesting Washington Post article on Cindy’s addiction problem posted at Huffpo. Cindy first claimed it started in 1989, when she ruptured some disks transporting baby Bridget around. Bridget wasn’t born until 1991, however.

  203. Meredith Says:

How long do trolls petrol? Today’s posts of trolls popping up out of nowhere (thanks Rainlillie for explaining)is like an episode of the twilight zone. I have been reading this site for months and months now and have had the privilege of reading what many of you fine regulars have to say, and then today, like an unwanted swarm of bees, we have been inundated by trolls who don’t want John McCain to have to actually be accountable for his lies and hypocrisy. How about we non-trolls just 100% ignore the trolls, and then maybe when they’re not getting a reaction they will go away like that pesky bully at school who loves to get your goat.

  204. Kelly Says:

    Hi carolyn #199.

In regards to Kristy,Al #4’s comment, “And our great leaders or four fathers came here to give freedom of…. and i find it WRONG to keep race as an issue.”

I think she meant our 4 fathers: Bush, Rumsfeld, Cheney and Rove.

Well I guess I must be one of the Trolls. So nice of you ladies to be open to discussion. Instead of being open to other people’s perspectives some of you are as close-minded as both far left and far right-minded individuals. Rather sad. But you all continue to enjoy the rhetoric. The one thing I did gain from reading this post is that there are some of you out there that saw the program yesterday for what it really was. And whether or not you are for or against McCain, I do believe most of you found the behavior of some of the women of the View to be out of line. Sadly these ladies do influence many of the non-educated public. I applaud those of you who realize that to make an educated decision regarding this election, one must do more than watch the View. Good day ladies.

  206. Tracey Says:

I am so proud of the ladies from the View! They did what the other media outlets did not. If Sarah wants to play ball with the boys, she should be able to handle it. We all can recall our parents telling us when we were younger, not to play with the boys. If she thinks she tough enough, then play! But don’t “cry wolf” when your gotten the best of, but still stay in the game. This is not sexism, this is “fair game.”

  207. Kelly Says:

That’s why this website is called Watching the View
“We watch The View so you don’t have to”

Looks like we’re all on the same side after all.
We all agree, McCain was hammered by The View.
We all agree, it did not bode well for McCain.

  208. mibi Says:

has anyone notice that the people have complained about mmcain treatment but not his overall visit to the show

    they
say oh they were asking tough question about roe v wade and have not said anything not about how he answered the question and others
    they
say do be rude but said nothing in reponce to EH comments on MO or whether obaa will get similar treatment if he returns

i dont mind whatever the responce is to mmcain ads or Eh comments on MO or how mmcain answered questions i rather hear that than but he a senator he needs repect.

  209. Yellow4Ro Says:

Isn’t is interesting some consider only the Repug candidates deserving of respect and deference.

I don’t recall Senator John Kerry getting any respect or deference when he was swift-boated four years ago!

Those of you who consider supporting and voting for McCain-Palin as an “educated” choice have a very narrow-minded and blind “view” of the true issues.

On the issues of Supreme and lower Court judges as well as McCain bringing back the draft not to mention the fact that Roe vs. Wade will continue to be eroded, these are just the tip of the ice burg why McCain-Palin will be a continuation of Bush-Cheney.

I DO NOT want my 18 yr old sent off to fight, posibbly injured or even killed in another unjust war to make the filthy rich even wealthier!

NO WAY! NO HOW! NO MCCAIN!

  210. wendee Says:

BW was mainly the one that was questioning McCain. The show is taped live, and so they have a limited time in which questions need to be answered. If you allow politicians to “bloviate” (a favorite word of a conservative journalist), then the questions do not get answered. She was interrupting him from doing so, because we as taxpayers and voters have a right to hear the real answer to a question. The same thing should be done of Obama, Biden, and Palin. It is different when they sit down for an interview that is taped, so that journalists can be patient and edit out the bloviating. Do you all feel O’Reilly is out of line when he cuts off people’s mikes, or Hannity is out line when he interrupts his guests? But I still do not get how we can afford to be polite and patient when the economy, environment, and safety is at stake. I have tried to be polite and patient for eight years, to no accost.

  211. Michael Says:

I’m surprised there isn’t any outrage about Barbara saying “Us white folks will take care of you.” Doesn’t she realize that democrats have been taking care of african americans for years without any positive results?
More people were murdered in chicago during the summer than died in iraq. Besides for the fact it makes democrats look bad why is that never mentioned on the view.

Yes, blame Gibson for Palin’s incompetence.

Blame gibson for editing her answers. You did know about that didn’t you? Or did you believe what you saw were her complete answers. Not that it would matter to Kelly, her mind is already made up.

  212. Michael Says:

I don’t recall Senator John Kerry getting any respect or deference when he was swift-boated four years ago!

Kerry was proven to be lying about many things. The story about being on the river Christmas eve under the orders f nixon that was seared into his memory??

And John O’neil was making the same points about kerry back in 1971 when they both appeared on the dick cavett show. I’m guessing you didn’t know the swiftboating started out 33 years earlier.

Using dailykos as a source is no different than using rush as a source.

Kelly, how do you feel about Obama and his participation in the church with pastor wright for 20 years? Does that disturb you like palin’s participation in her church obviously does?

  214. Dee Says:

“Doesn’t she realize that democrats have been taking care of african americans for years without any positive results?”

What a vicious and racist remark…your troll label is firmly attached to the white garment. Did you ever stop to think that Winnie (owner of this site) could be an African-American, or be related to one while you spewed your prejudice?

  215. Beverly Says:

#208 Michael, Winnie’s recap covered the exchange regarding the editing of Palin’s answers during the ABC interview. So all posters who read the recap are aware — AND, it seems that Palin’s “complete” answers didn’t matter to ANYONE (not just Kelly).

BTW, where in the clips/recap does it say that BW actually said that bizarre remark? I would think WG would have called her on how great that “white folk protection” has worked out so far. Plus, with all the attention the McCain interview created for the View, why isn’t anyone else freaking out on that remark? I’m not saying that she didn’t say it — I’m asking for some confirmation. Anyone?

  216. Winnie McCarthy Says:

    Beverly: Barbara did make a joke about how “us white folk” will take care of Whoopi and Sherri after Whoopi made her comment about being afraid that she would end up a slave. Sherri responded “Oh my God” and put her head in her hand. {I can’t include everything in my recaps or else they would be five times as long :) }

  217. Yellow4Ro Says:

    Michael Dear,

Since I was four going on five back in 1971 my TV watching included Sesame Street and Captain Kangaroo! O_o LOL

So, we are to believe Kerry lied because 1 man went on a TV show and made that claim?
How do we know for sure Old McCreepy is telling us the entire truth about his time as a POW? All we know is the official story - you know the one the GOP and McCreey cram down our throats every 5 minutes!

  218. Michael Says:

Plus, with all the attention the McCain interview created for the View, why isn’t anyone else freaking out on that remark? I’m not saying that she didn’t say it — I’m asking for some confirmation. Anyone?

  219. Michael Says:

So, we are to believe Kerry lied because 1 man went on a TV show and made that claim?

Kerry told a story many times of the years about being on the river christmas eve under orders of nixon. This story was “seared” (his word) into his memory. Nixon wasn’t president yet.
Kerry threw his war medals over the fence of the white house in protest back in the 70s. Oops, not his medals he threw.
Those were a couple of the lies kerry admitted to 3 years ago.

The point about the dick cavett show was to point out that objections to kerry’s military record was not something thought up by rove. It started 30+ years ago, back when rove was watching sesame street and captain kangaroo.

  220. Michael Says:

What a vicious and racist remark…your troll label is firmly attached to the white garment. Did you ever stop to think that Winnie (owner of this site) could be an African-American, or be related to one while you spewed your prejudice?

Winnie’s skin color is not an issue to me, I don’t speak differently to people because of their skin color.

  221. Beverly Says:

Thanks Winnie - See? I just figure if it’s not in Winnie’s Recap … :)

What an asinine remark. Michael, thanks for the link. It seems that everyone was shocked at McCain’s answer - and it went down from there. No excuse for the “white folk” comment.

  222. Meredith Says:

Look trolls, it’s not that complicated: McCain said he doesn’t think Roe Vs. Wade is a good law. As Beverly explained yesterday: “Whoopie’s point was that if McCain wants to appoint “constitutionalists” to the Supreme Court to regress us back to pre-Roe v Wade, does he also intend those “constitutionalists” to re-interpret other rights as well — that is, those rights not in the original constitution. It was a valid question. He’s the one who put it out there.”
Whoopi asked if she should worry about a return to slavery (pre constitution) which makes the point that McShame’s kind of thinking can be very dangerous. Barbara responded with, “We white folks will take care of you”–referring to Whoopi and Sherri in the same vein as a kind of satirical response. Of course it’s a ridiculous thing to say. She meant it that way! For any of you to take the comment seriously, you are missing the main point, that it is very dangerous to to play fast and loose with the constitution which a McCain/Palin administration would continue to do as the Bush/Cheney admin has done for the last 8 years which has cost this country dearly for many of the rights we hold dear.

Of course, returning to slavery sounds outrageous & ridiculous BUT so does returning to backroom butchery.

  223. Beverly Says:

Now I know how I missed BW’s comment … I was yelling at the clip for everyone to let WG finish!!

Actually, Slavery was provided for (by way of a phase-out period) in our first constitution until a law was passed. Which is from where I believe WG was coming. If RvW could be revisited, why not every other major life-changing court decision and/or law by McCain’s “constitutionalists”.

It’s bad enough to suffer regression but what about other big issues that we are so divided on? What about Death w/Dignity (Terry Schiavo)? What hope do gay/lesbian people have of non-discrimination in their rightful pursuit of happiness?

Agreed to by Congress November 15, 1777; ratified and in force, March 1, 1781.

“In Article 1, Section 9, Congress is limited, expressly, from prohibiting the “Importation” of slaves, before 1808. The slave trade was a bone of contention for many, with some who supported slavery abhorring the slave trade. The 1808 date, a compromise of 20 years, allowed the slave trade to continue, but placed a date-certain on its survival. Thanks so much Winnie, for all your hard work and maintaining this site.

  226. Sky Says:

Wow in all the time I’ve been visiting this site, I don’t think I’ve ever seen this many responses.

I do enjoy watching The View, even though I admit I do my share of complaining about EH because she’s often so annoying to me.

Anyway as for the McCain’s interview, I thought it was provoking and good. I give BW credit for doing her best to get to all the questions she had, even if she did have to cut short McCain at times. So what.

And while Whoopi’s comment about slavery may have shocked some, I got her point and knew where she was coming from.

I was suprised EH seemed to be muzzled during the interview, maybe out of respect for BW so that she could hold her own without that constant interrupting EH is prone to doing.

I love Joy. She’s just great and always manages to keep a sense of humor, even when being serious. That’s something I think we could all take note of.

This is an exciting election. I was more than disappointed Hillary was chosen by Obama, but it hasn’t changed my views on what America needs in a leader and the kind of changes I hope to see in the future.

    Peace out.

  227. Sky Says:

Oops correction, I meant I was more than disappointed Hillary WASN’T chosen by Obama. :(

  228. Joyce W. Davis Says:

BW followed through on questions. She always does this in her interviews. It’s one of the reasons that people respect her as a journalist. She asked the questions until she got a true answer. Except….when she asked him how many houses he has and he said, ‘Oh Barbara, I don’t want to get into that” and went off on another subject.

John McCain went to Annapolis, where he graduated 5th from the bottom of his class. He went into the Navy because in his family he had to. He crashed 3 planes, until after the final crash in which he broke arm along with other injuries and was captured by the Viet Cong. He refused early release from the prison camp because he knew his father would be disgraced and enraged that his son took advantage of special privelidge. As for torture, only John McCain knows the extent of his personal torture. He stayed in the Navy until the day after his father’s funeral, after which he turned in his uniforms.

After being released, he returned home to his children and his wife who had been waiting faithfully for him for almost 6 years. He began cheating on her almost immediately. He cheated for 5 years with several women, one of whom was Cindy Heath. He applied for a marraige license before his divorce was final and married the object of his final adulterous affair, Cindy, 5 weeks later. Cindy asked for a pre-nup, which he agreed to, prior to their marraige.

He promised a clean, truthful campaign, (he had been the target of Rove/Cheney attacks in 2000) until he saw that he was going to lose the election. He then went to the very people that had so maligned him, and his campaign has now gone off in the direction that the Repubican campaigns have gone since HW Bush election campaign.

I have always voted for the person, not the party but this year, I’m voting for the party and the person. I’m voting for Barack Obama! I am disappointed in the direction that the Republican party has gone.

Back again, sorry. Just read the previous comment. I too would have liked Hillary to be the first women President of the US, but if he had put her in as VP, McCain would have attacked that decision with ‘The Democrats Have Two Inexperience People’, and he would have chosen a Repub. with experience in areas where he is weak. His choice of Palen, reinforces the fact of his and Rove/Cheney’s arrogance that they can put anything over on the American people and make them LIKE it.

I co-sign, but would suggest that the direction of the Republican campaigns have been based in smear and corruption since Nixon – and earlier. However, in Nixon’s case, journalism was at its finest with Woodward and Bernstein, and the removal of a sitting President was as easy as uncovering Watergate and the bigger connection to the CIA, FBI and Justice Department’s abuse of power by the President.

Today, with all the supporting evidence of an unjust war and the selling of the war with manufactured evidence, and the deaths of thousands of our soldiers and millions of Iraqis, it is an abomination that we are NOT able to impeach.

It is imperative that we not put any more liars, cowards or Republicans back in the White House, because the journalist, moralistic, and judicial systems of the United States are dead. We will have no recourse when the liars become dictators.

My compliments to the two posters above me. Hear hear!

  232. Joyce W. Davis Says:

Yay, Kelly. I atand corrected. They have been corrupt for many, many years!

  233. Cassandra Says:

Watching the show on Friday with the McCains and reading all the different posts has made me realize just how polarized our society is based on personal experiences. One thing that Obama stated in his acceptance speech was his mother taught him to put himself in the other person’s shoes.
To all the critics of the show: Before you past judgement on a person, maybe you should try to understand life from their perspective. As an African American I think Whoopi’s comment about slavery was justified. Slavery is a very real part of America’s past and to some of us a true healing has never occured. To hear someone state they want to have the Constitution interpretated as our founding fathers invisioned is scary. Despite all the “good” the founding fathers accomplished for themselves, they were ruthless when it came to their treatment of the Native Americans( who by the way were here 1st). This nation of people have never recovered. It’s not always about race, it’s about a lack of compassion and furthering personal agendas. It was so then and it still is now. At some point we need to acknowledge we are all in this together and personal agendas do not serve humanity just a few “persons”.
Thanks Whoopi for being authentic enough to ask the question.

#32 Cassandra - as a fellow African American, thank you for making the point in an articulate, clear manner! I totally agree.

I saw the contrast between the so-called interview that your show provided with John McCain and Barack Obama today on the news. I have stopped watching your show because of the obvious bias in your views and the way that you express them, which is prideful and hateful, especially from Joy, who has no control over her mouth whatsoever. Your views don’t reflect how I believe and think, and I know I am speaking for quite a few women out there who are centrists, and want balance in our lives and our country. Extremes are not good at all. Your views are extreme to the left, which could lead our country into socialism, and that is frightening. I was deeply troubled with how you treated Obama, with Joy practically flirting with him on your show in a playful manner, and Barbara telling him that you all thought he was “sexy”. Michelle Obama gave a speech telling people to vote for the issues, not “because I like him” or “I think she is cute”. The comment goes for all of us. I thought it was a good comment and balanced…no matter what anyone says. I was even more troubled with the way you treated John McCain, a war hero, who clearly deserves some kind of respect, doesn’t he? Regardless of your views politically. He is a war hero. But what can you expect from a bunch of yacking women, who are so ready to pounce on him and judge because you have your own agendas that you want to push off and force on the rest of us. All I see with you are a bunch of out of control “yackers” and to be truthful, it is a poor example for women today. Barbara, what a waste of a career. I am so disappointed with you. I watched you as I grew up, on the news, and admired you, as a woman, who would interview high officials in a professional manner. It made me proud that a woman was interviewing some of the most intriguing people in the world, and you did it with fairness and integrity! It just seems that you’ve taken the low road, Barbara. That in itself is sad. Very sad.

“because you have your own agendas that you want to push off and force on the rest of us.”

That pretty much sums up the attitude of the Republican party. They want to “push off and force ” their religious views on abortion and gay marriage, “on the rest of us.”
