I only got to see bits & pieces in real time; I hope to catch the videotape later. As I’ve posted before, I am sorry when EH comes out on top, because it sends a message that opposing her views isn’t tolerated. And, sure enough, it looks like today was a good day for her. I heard something about Barry having decided to come on & make nice with them, after all; EH also said that Alicia Silverstone called to say she did not diss EH after all on Rosie’s last day, as many people thought she had done; and, EH is on yet another magazine cover. Needless to say, I was very disappointed.

  2. Cheryl Says:

Hello,I’ve been reading the comments for awhile now and I don’t understand something. I don’t understand the hostility towards and intolerance of EH, just b/c someone doesn’t agree with her politically. I am a very independant thinker and voter. I do not come down exclusively on one party side or another. I have voted both ways, dependant on many different factors/issues. But whether I agree with anybody, a view host or average person, doesn’t give me the right to trash them and spew hate towards them. Currently, I come down more towards the left on many issues, but it’s the intolerant/close-minded rhetoric that I hear from the left that makes me not want to be associated with them. I may not have agreed with all of Rosie’s views, but I wouldn’t trash her and show such disrespect just b/c I disagreed. I was originally drawn towards the left, thinking they were more open-minded/tolerant, but the more I hear from them, the more I don’t understand their hatred for anything but their own opinion. What are they afraid of? Aren’t they against censorship? Aren’t they for freedom of speech? What is going on? Someone please explain……

  3. Peaches Says:

Hi, Cheryl: If you are talking to me specifically because I posted on this spot earlier, I’ll try to answer you as well as I can. I don’t spew “hate” & it distresses me that my alarm & anger at EH, about Bush’s War, makes it seem like it’s just mindless hatred that I feel. I don’t enjoy the negative feelings EH has stirred in me about how she turns a blind eye to Bush’s dangerous foreign policy. I don’t go to other websites & engage in political arguments & pick fights with people who like EH and her views. I don’t post my little ditties here for the sake of an academic argument. I like Winnie’s site & have at times been encouraged to think that The View might be a place where opposition to EH on the war could take place. I started feeling this encouragement when Rosie was on. I didn’t watch much if at all before that. I suspect that, with most other shows, I’ll eventually get tired of the show & the site & will move on. I do feel a lot of anger and frustration and fear about how Bush’s foreign policies have put the U.S. in an extremely precarious place. I don’t see anger as being the same thing as hate. I’m not trying to split hairs or be rude. I’m just trying to explain. I truly don’t want to get into personal arguments with the other posters here. I just reread my post & I don’t see where I implied censorship, hatred, etc. I’m frustrated at my inability to make myself understood, so please forgive me if I stop now and not engage anymore. I’m not writing this with any malice, and I do hope that that comes through.

  4. Sandy Says:

    #2,
I agree with your comments, whole heartily.
I think i can understand how many on the left feel. So much has happened in the last 6 years, and war is a terrible thing, that brings about so many emotions. (for and on both sides). I’m not so sure that their hatred is really for the person, such as EH, but more for the things they say and believe. I understand that it is so hard to understand the feelings and thoughts of those who say they are for staying in Iraq right now, or for those who may support the president’s ’stay the course’. As someone wrote here yesterday, It’s about life and death,..which it is, It’s also about more than that.NOT more important, but more than that.
I didn’t get to see today’s show, sounds like i might have missed one I would have found interesting.

  5. Sandy Says:

    #Peaches,
I think we posted our comments at the same time. I just thought I would say that I understand how you feel. I think I might understand you much more than you understand my views. I do have mixed feelings about the war in Iraq, and I sure understand yours.
The things is I would not critisise you for your views.

  6. Cheryl Says:

    Hi Peaches,
Thanks for your thoughtful reply. No, I wasn’t commenting directly in response to your post. My post was responding to the disrespectful/rude attitudes I’ve heard expressed for so long now on this site by many posters. Btw, I hate it when people who didn’t agree with Rosie talk disrespectfully too, like making personal attacks/derogatory insults instead of dealing with the issues they disagree with. I have noticed that there are far more “personal attacks” against EH, though. That may mean that there are far more view watchers/posters that are against the war/liberal,etc. (of course i understand that there are conservatives against the war too) But what i don’t understand is why if someone disagrees with the war/Bush, etc., like you explained, why they feel the need to bash EH. Again, i’m not saying you have done that. i’m wondering why do people assume, as one poster put it “EH is a mouthpiece for Fox News”, etc? Can’t a person have those opinions without being a mouthpiece for fox news? Can’t we have a strong opinion/belief without assuming that anyone who doesn’t agree with us is an idiot, hasn’t thought about the issues, etc.? For instance, I disagree with Rosie on an issue, but I wouldn’t say or think she’s an idiot, a mouthpiece, want her to shut up, be kicked off the show, etc. So, my post was in response to that kind of stuff i have read here about EH. like i said it just suprised and confused me b/c i thought people who tended towards the left/liberal or whatever you want to call it were really into tolerance and against censorship and yet i hear alot of people wanting to shut EH up instead of agreeing that she (and other people who have the same opinions)should have a forum too and then disagree with her specifically on issues. personally, if someone is going to comment on something EH or anyone else has said,i’d like to hear specifics as to why they disagree with it/ were offended by it instead of personal attacks and how much they don’t like the person. i hope i’ve explained this better. again, i wasn’t replying to your post. thanks for your thoughts.

  7. Stacee Says:

Interesting show. They addressed the Barry incident, which I thought was a good thing. What I found informative - and which does not make the news - is that Whoopi said some people will not come on because of Whoopi’s & Joy’s views. That surprised me because I have not heard that mentioned before.

Topics were good. They touched on the Jena 6 trial and race. They plugged the mag EH is on. Sherri clarified her ‘flat earth’ comment.

EH tried to make saying a joke about younger women, older men saying her and Barry would g
et along (or something like that). It did not go over too well.

Joy made a few sex comments. AGAIN. Wish she would stop.
Gloria Estefan was a guest. She looked wonderful!

Pretty ok show. Barb was not there, that made it a lot better.

Wanted to address the censorship point above: this is not a left vs right issue. ALL sides engage in censoring what is said and expressing outrage when something is said that they don’t like or agree with. When Rosie was on (talk about hate!), I heard comments about putting a muzzle on her and people were out to get her fired. If you say something that someone does not want to hear people will complain.

  8. Sandy Says:

    # Stacy, Cheryl, & Peaches,
Thanks for sharing what the show was about today.
Cheryl, you are much more articulate than I am, so thanks for expressing my view as well as your.
Peaches, I just wanted to clarify I was not implying that you have ever criticised me, my comment was about so many criticising EH because of her views.
I believe the posters here are all very sincere people, and are All very passionate about their views.

  9. Stephanie Says:

The one time I miss the show and it sounds like it was pretty good. I hope I can find the video somewhere :(

  10. Sara Says:

Cherly: I can’t speak for everyone, but the reason why I am disgusted with EH is not because she has different views than I do, but because she expresses those opinions in a narrow minded, disrespectful way, she monopolizes the airtime and tries to keep others from interjecting their opinions when she’s in the middle of one of her many rambling “monologues” and she goes on the air and present completely false information. And that false information isn’t just related to politics. A few months ago she went on a tirade about why she’s opposed to the morning after pill and she explained what the morning after pill does, and the information she gave was 100% false. Five minutes of research would have been all she needed to do to get the correct information. I am angered and appalled that a person is allowed to continue at a job when they are not even really trying to do a good job. She’s merely going on air and repeating information that has been fed to her.

  11. rainlillie Says:

I dislike anyone who lies every time they’re attempting to defend their political views. I find most of the hogwash that comes out of EH’s mouth is merely right wing talking points.

I’m not sure why or how anyone can defend someone who thinks it’s ok to torture people or the civilians dying in Iraq aren’t that big of a deal.

  12. rainlillie Says:

    Cheryl,
EH is a mouth piece for Faux News. Is it just a coincidence that she and the right wing radio parrots are saying the same thing on the same day…I think not.

This isn’t about left and right. It’s about right and wrong. It’s wrong to support our troops dying in another country’s civil war.

  13. Sandi Says:

EH is protected on The View by her mentor, Bill Geddie (the OTHER ep). She gets her talking points from him and from “faux news” as she is incapable of an independent thought. What I object to is her self aggrandizing! She REALLY thinks that anything she has to say matters. She is merely a stepford republican. Surely there are young republican women with intelligence who could be an asset to The View. It seems to me that Lisa Ling was one such young lady. How is it that all they can come up with to voice the conservative view is an airhead such as Elisabeth Hasselbeck. Not a ringing endorsement for a well-informed counter to the liberal viewpoint! The View executive producers do a disservice to conservatives everywhere.

  14. rainlillie Says:

Rosie and Gloria are really good friends. I think I read on Rosie’s blog that she also attended Gloria’s party.

  15. jess Says:

TO ANYONE WHO “ABSOLUTELY LOVES” EH: I for one will not apologize for calling it like it is. EH is a pretty girl and very charming. She does not, however, have a damn clue about what she is talking about. And she is supposed to rep my demographic???? I’M DISGUSTED and proud to say it!
Rosie was much too flamboyant(for ABC) with her views and not to mention a lesbian (and that gives America the willies). Rosie didn’t have a chance. EH was and is still revered as “America’s Sweetheart”. She’s still on the show folks. You got what you wanted, didn’t you?

If ANYONE wants to come in this blog and rant about the grotesque displays of intellect that EH pretends to have, I think we should be able to. She is still on the show. What more do you want? She’s even reproducing…you should be HAPPY. We can continue to grow a populus that is absolutely ignorant to world affairs and has absolutely no critical thinking skills( thanks to their mothers’s who still support George W).

I say “keep on ranting”. The points are valid. The woman is dangerous.

  16. Peaches Says:

I’ve had no chance to watch all of yesterday’s or today’s Views & hope to catch up this weekend. I wanted to say hi to Cheryl & Sandy & thank them sincerely for their civility toward me.

Some days it is hard for me to hear one more time that my anger toward a TV show person like EH who expresses her views is the same thing as “hatred” or “censorship” or “not being open minded” or not being “moral” or not being a “Christian” or not wanting EH to have an opinon. I’ve heard this for years & years. The right-wing professional pundits and politicians and tacticians have used this tactic repeatedly, with right-wing talk radio, Drudge & other sites, and the Fox Network as its engine or superhighway. The power of repetition is awesome, because people who don’t even watch Fox have been infected by these stock phrases and comebacks. It was a brilliant move of Karl Rover and others like him, paid professional right-wing word mongers and tacticians, to come up with the idea of telling liberals that they are “haters” and “don’t have morals” and are “elites” and “are intolerant.” Pure genius. Because it worked! Regular folks who don’t watch Fox and even other journalists at other networks use these phrases. I feel like I’m in kindergarten when I hear a seasoned media professional and former speechwriter on MSNBC refer to people who are horrifed at Bush’s policies as “Bush haters.” Not only is that simplistic and insulting, it really does de-rail the debate from the fact that Bush has earned our animosity and horror at how he has ruined our country.

My anger and alarm about EH is that she has been such an apt pupil. I do not see her as a failing media person (though I hope that turns out to be true!) but as a rising star in the right wing’s pantheon of blond, glib, photogenic foot soldiers who repeat repeat repeat the talking points of the day. Saying that is not the same thing as saying that EH doesn’t believe what she says. I’m sure she does.

I consider her brand of conservative media person to be a danger in big ways and small. Since I am not one of the people who think of The View as just a talk show, I see it as a chance to make comments about EH’s methods and tactics … with the hope that maybe some awareness can be raised. I’m not hopeful it will, but I’ll continue to try until it seems a waste of time.

I hope this site continues to be a forum for people speaking up about the panelists, whether pro or con, rather than making inflammatory remarks about the posters, such as the way the flamer did a few days ago. I don’t plan to dignify flamers like that with a response because I don’t want to see this site degenerate into zingers hurled at the posters the way it does on Perez Hilton’s site. Because that will hurt the greater cause of trying to bring awareness of the inacurracies and falsehoods that EH puts forth.

I agree with Jess’s concerns about her as well as the concerns of the other posters about EH. 100%. There are some people on this site I don’t agree with who seem like decent folks who don’t appear to want to trash us as individuals–and I do want to tread softly at times if necessary with them. I don’t want them to think of me as a “hater.” I don’t see that as apologizing for speaking up against EH, but if it is, that’s okay. What I am sorry, though, is for the length of this post (yikes!)

  17. Sandy Says:

    Peaches & others.
I honestly do not feel that posters here are “haters” or “immoral”. I think they are just like me. They have an opinion and a view, and want to express it.
