The View September 4th Recap: Terrence Howard and Audrina Patridge
Today on the September 4th episode of The View, Elisabeth Hasselbeck was not present because she will be at the Republican National Convention later today. Sherri Shepherd was absent yesterday because it was Jeffrey’s first day of school. He was fine, but she didn’t want to leave him. She felt a “pang” that he didn’t cry or anything and it took her six tries to leave. When he got home, he kept saying he wanted to go to school. The school is for children who have developmental delays and she feels good leaving him there.
Sarah Palin gave her speech last night at the convention. Barbara Walters said she was “just wonderful” no matter what her views were and it will be tough for Joe Biden to debate her. Sherri was disappointed that she made fun of Barack Obama’s job as a community avtivist, which he did when he could have taken a high paying job instead. He was serving his country. Sherri broke down when Palin said that people who have a special needs children have a friend in her. Joy said she was great and could be a comedian because she has great timing. Joy thinks that men are attracted to her and she is like a librarian who has the hair up and then takes it down and “va va va voom.” She said that might be sexist, but that men did not find Hillary Clinton attractive.
Whoopi thought it was a good speech and she came out strong. She gave information we would not have known before. She was also bothered by the slighting of Barack’s role as a community organizer. Whoopi was really aggravated when Palin said she had to explain to her opponents what a mayor is and that community organizers don’t have actual responsibilities. Whoopi said that it is often the activists who are getting information back to the mayor about what is going on in the city. They liked the clip of the little daughter holding the baby and fixing his hair with spit. Barbara said it may cost her an interview, but read from an article that said that as governor, Palin raised taxes, pursued pork belly projects, looked into banning books, and thinks the Iraq war is God’s will. Palin also recently cut funding for teen mothers who don’t have a place to live. Barbara said that none of those things were addressed in her speech.
Sherri pointed out that there was one black man in the audience and they kept showing him. Joy said that the “baby daddy” of Palin’s daughter looked like he was thinking what Gov. Palin was thinking “drill, baby, drill.” Sherri said that he looked like he was thinking “How did I get here?” when he just wanted to go out with a girl and he ended up at the RNC. Barbara said that since we don’t have Elisabeth here today, she wanted to point out that Palin is intelligent and has guts and drive. She said whatever the party, you felt reassured about what she said last night.
Whoopi pointed out another part of Palin’s speech where she talked about McCain is the only candidate who has really suffered adversity, when he was imprisoned in Vietnam. Whoopi said that Joe Biden’s adversity is no less because he lost his wife and child. She said that is no worse that being in Vietnam. Joy said it was not appropriate because Biden also had brain anerseyms. Barbara said that they repeat again and again about how McCain was in prison and how he handled it. It is a central theme of the campaign.
The next topic was the new 90210. Barbara said that during the Depression, all the movies showed people rich and extravagant. She said that now with 90210, Gossip Girl, and The Hills, although the economy is bad the television shows ultra rich people. Joy said that people want to dream big. Sherri said that it is a glimpse into a life you don’t have.
Dancing with the Stars returns soon and Sherri is so excited. Barbara said that Sherri wanted to be on it. Sherri said that she has Jeffrey with her full-time and she chose being a mommy over doing Dancing with the Stars. Joy said that Sherri said the other day that mothers can do anything, even be VP. Sherri said Palin has a husband and other children to help her out. Joy called them “Trig and Track and Frick and Frack.” Barbara is excited for Cloris Leachman to be on Dancing with the Stars because she is 82.
Joy is into tennis and watched Venus and Serena last night. She watched a lot of Olympics this summer and loves sports now, but it has to be the top level of competition.
They then had a special guest, former tennis star Andre Agassi, come out to the table. He has siblings and could not imagine competing against them the way Serena and Venus Williams do. Agassi said his career highlight was winning the gold medal in the 1996 Olympics. For him, tennis was a vehicle to learn more about himself and winning came along and he enjoyed that as well. He does not want to come back from retirement. He will still plays tennis with wife Steffi Graf as long as she hits the ball back to him because he doesn’t want to run. He also said it is hard to win against her because he can’t keep his eye on the ball because he is looking at her. He has two children with her.
He has a foundation called Andre Agassi Charitable Foundation. It is to help children in need and he has built a preparatory school in an economically challenged area. This year will be their first graduating class. The foundation will now also give them college scholarships.
Actor Terrence Howard appeared on the show to promote his debut album. He said that as an actor you are defined by what the writer/director gives you. He wants to see who he is and music helps him do that. He does not consider himself a singer, but a storyteller. He did the album because he met a singer who could not get a deal because she doesn’t look like Beyonce. She will now be opening for him. He has learned to play instruments as well.
He was nominated for an Oscar for Hustle and Flow and the song he sang in the film, “It’s hard out here for a pimp,” won an Oscar. (Now that song will be in my head ALL DAY). His album, Shine Through It, is not a hip-hop album, but a jazz album. He has been thinking all through his acting career that he will make an album. He said that he will be Terry the rest of his life, whatever that is.
His writing has allowed him to purge himself. He realized that his wife was more supportive than he thought she was and when he saw Seal with Heidi Klum, he was inspired to write “Sanctuary,” because he is a sanctuary for her. Terrence will do an Ironman sequel.
Audrina Patridge from MTV “reality” show The Hills was also on the show. She said that her family is so excited for her to be on The View today. She said that the show is real. They pick their own clothes and do their own make-up. Audrina said they tell the producers where they are going and they will follow them out. Barbara pointed out that some of the conversations are contrived and there are re-shoots of scenes. Audrina admitted that things will happen off-camera so they will have to re-cap it on screen and catch the audience up. Audrina said that she and Lo were never friends and knows that Lo and Lauren stopped being friends for awhile but are friends again. Audrina said that when she was discovered to be on the show she was living in LA and had a full-time job. A producer saw her laying by a pool and then asked her to be on the show. She then met Heidi and started filming her part on the show.
Whoopi asked if the women on the show practice safe sex because there is a sexual tension on the show, although she does not watch the show because she is too old to watch MTV, and knowing that young people are watching. Patridge said it depends on the relationships and it is different for every girl, but discussions about safe sex don’t happen on the show. Audrina agreed that it might be irresponsible to not discuss it on the show, noting that Heidi had a pregnancy scare in season two.
Terrence Howard then performed his song “Sanctuary” from his album Shine Through It.
The View, Joy Behar, Sherri Shepherd, Elisabeth Hasselbeck, Whoopi Goldberg, Barbara Walters, Sarah Palin, Terrence Howard, Audrina Patridge, The Hills, John McCain, Barack Obama, Joe Biden, Cloris Leachman, Dancing with the Stars, Lauren Conrad, Ironman, Andre Agassi, Steffi Graf, Venus Williams, Serena Williams

Wow….Joy is Always jealous of anyone who looks better than her……Sarah was awesome in her speech!
September 4th, 2008 at 10:17 am
“Screw her and the moose she rode in on!” (Trixy of Great Minds Think Like Me)
Sarah Palin is having an affair…with Big Oil. Don’t believe me? Read on…
Did you ever wonder how Palin’s meteoric rise was funded? Did you ever question how a newly minted Governor garners an 80% approval rating? Answer: Oil-tainted, blood-stained American Tax Dollars…your dollars, funneled through Republican puppets by Big Oil.
Here’s how: Palin, a one-time TV announcer and beauty queen grew bored with verbally assaulting her child’s soccer team opponents, so she ran for city council, and then mayor of a very small town (less than 7,000 pop) called Wasilla. She fired every top director, in an attempt to rule without descent (definitely a maverick and reformer – against hard working US citizens).
During this time, she and her BP-employed husband try to secede Alaska from the US Government (and Government’s pesky environmental oversight) so they can drill holes into Alaska for a little bit of oil. You remember; the Palins were members of the Alaska Independence Party.
That got her some attention from Big Oil, or, maybe BIG OIL was already familiar with the Palins????
SOMEHOW, this new, small-time mayor found BIG MONEY from Washington with the help of an oil-connected lobbyist…hmmmmmm. $27 million in earmarks – a corrupt processes ‘condemned’ by papa McCain hisself.
THEN, small-time mayor makes run for lieutenant governor but BIG OIL decides she’s hardly qualified for lieutenant and makes her Governor – but not before she sat on the commission for Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation (don’t let the word ‘conservation’ throw you – remember, we live in bizarro world). Oh, and she was chairman, no less. And she fired a mess of folks when she became Governor as well, but stood behind the crooked Republicans.
THEN – somehow, this newly minted Governor hits it big-time with $750 million in unprecedented federal funding for a Bridge to Nowhere –which was her payoff for oil drilling. But she had to publicly denounce it when the American public caught on…why that much money for a bridge into the wilderness? BUT, she forgot to mention last night, that when she flip-flopped on supporting the bridge, she KEPT the money…which is why she cryptically said they would build the bridge themselves…a preemptive move so common in this campaign.
She enjoys an 80% approval in Alaska because she flooded the streets with your tax dollars – nearly $300 million of them! Oh, and she lies…a lot.
Last night, she lost the respect of many women who hoped to see her rise above it, inspire, and discuss solutions….not take soccer-mom swipes at Obama. No class -

wow.
September 4th, 2008 at 10:27 am
Great post Kelly! Obama was out there defending her family, that shows his character. She showed hers by belittling his accomplishments.
September 4th, 2008 at 10:58 am
I was voting for Obama any way, but knowing that it “cancels out” Barbie’s vote, makes it even more rewarding.
September 4th, 2008 at 11:14 am
Wow, I cannot believe that WG wants to compare who is suffered more adversity. A man who lost immediate family members or someone who was tortured daily in a Hanoi prison camp. As a mother living every day wondering what someone was doing to my son in a prison camp would be a torture in itself…should we throw that one into the mix. How dare Whoopi try to minimize anyones pain and suffering by equalizing it. That woman cant go a friggin week without a filthy cigarette or a month without a Big Mac and she wants to referee who has suffered more…Biden or McCain. Someone should send her to the front lines so that she can learn a little about discipline and compassion. In the meantime she should keep her ignorant pie hole sealed up so that any person in the whole world…Democrat or Conservative that are unclear as to the whereabouts of thier loved ones dont have to listen to her ignorant crap. The other 3 should be ashamed of themselves for sitting like the airheads they are and not saying a word.
September 4th, 2008 at 11:18 am
I feared that Joy would be a coward today and after reading that, she apparently was. Guess they really want her on the show.
For all the talk that Joy has done, she should be ashamed of herself for not speaking up when it matters most.
September 4th, 2008 at 11:21 am
My Issue with Palin is that in spite of her so called values she lacks common sense, or could it be that she is on some kind of performance drug. As a single woman who is very much a “Bra Burner” I have grown weary of the never ending articles in womens magazines about wives and working mothers feeling burned out, exhausted and just having no time for it all.
The stories are usually written by women with the average 2.5 kids or less. How on earth does a flesh and blood woman sincerely and skillfully raise a family of five children keep a husband happy, run a city then a state and If she were elected VP she could conceivably be running the nation. NO WAY! Girlfriend has got to be doing
something if not everything half-ass.
Did she sell the luxury jet on eBay to hire nannies? Or I wonder if Palin depends on her teen daughter to be the primary caretaker. I found it interesting that she held Palin’s new baby throughout most of last nights convention. Her husband hardly held the baby at all.
Getting married at 17 is a little odd for 21st century America. She may be tired of raising her mom’s kids and has decided getting pregnant could get her out of the house and finally a life of her own.
September 4th, 2008 at 11:22 am
oh Kelly and all you Obamabots…take a breath…it’s so fun to finally see Obama exposed for what he is…a do nothing, no experience, empty suit fraud. Now, FINALLY, maybe he’ll really be vetted and the Obama cult members will see the light and vote for someone who has actually DONE something.
September 4th, 2008 at 11:23 am
Who has suffered more isn’t the point. That John was a POW isn’t the point. I’ve known women that were molested or raped by their fathers or uncles for years on end. That doesn’t qualify them to run this country.
I agree Donna, that the women on that panel should just be completely ashamed.
Where is the sanity in this country?
September 4th, 2008 at 11:23 am
Personnally, I think Sarah Palin is a great power hungry actress. She is a good communicator which she learned from her degree in journalism and modest time spent on TV as a sports reporter and she is beautiful which she learned how to enhance from her time as a beauty pageant contestant. BUT she is not qualified no matter what anyone says to be VP and possibly President. A journalism degree? A mayor and council member— have you seen those meeting rooms. It’s a joke a a dumbing down of America. The republicans are turning this presidential election into a circus and a joke. As if President Bush hasn’t done enough damage. This is the best that the repubicans have to offer?
September 4th, 2008 at 11:26 am
oh Dana…I think you forgot to mention she is the GOVERNOR of the largest energy state in the nation….but, I’m sure that was just an “oops forgot”… right ?
September 4th, 2008 at 11:49 am
Oh Tony – I wish I too could be a simpleton space cadet – but I’m saddled with the annoying ability to read, write, process and emote. If only I could just sell-out like you Republicans, let McCain and Palin do my thinking for me, take a leisurely jog with Rush so I’m up on my talking points…life would be so dreamy.
BUT I CAN’T – because my beloved twin brother is heading back to Iraq (he knows what’s going on – it ain’t pretty – and it’s not the way you’ve been told), I lost my hard-earned, high-paying, 15-year job to Republican Corruption (which, coincidentally attended your GOP Convention), I have watched nearly everyone within the middleclass spectrum lose a home, a job, a child in Iraq and/or suffer through divorce because of it. I have watched the dumbing down of America – because dumb people do as they are told, and believe what they’re told. And we have all known someone who was crushed under the debt of medical bills and suffered without health care. We had a director who died because he couldn’t afford to treat his pneumonia, at the age of 49, and he was employed by the city.
You see Tony (and I know you don’t’) I would love to turn a blind eye and retreat to my underground cult – but sadly, I know the truth is BIG MONEY, BIG OIL, and you’re just a sad little pawn selling out your democracy, your planet, and your rights. Nice work Tony -
September 4th, 2008 at 12:15 pm
Why is mcCains war hero status supposedly such a selling point. With all due respect to those who gave their lives and those who survived Viet Nam, as a nation we know now that it was a senseless war.
Frankly McCain sounds like a warmonger/cowboy and I don’t care to have a cowboy or a pitt bull- even a lipstick wearing pitt bull- in the Whitehouse. So many of his speeches and also Palin’s last night made reference to “war, fighting and victory.”
I would have a lot more respect and trust in McCain if he had said to us as a nation something like: “Never again America will we send our children off to fight and die in a senseless war. Not on my watch, I’ve been there done that…” That would truly be honest and heroic.
September 4th, 2008 at 12:15 pm
Well said, Kelly!!
Take that, Tony!!!!!!
September 4th, 2008 at 12:16 pm
Kelly #1,
Where in the world did you get your info? One of your claims has already been found false. Go to http://www.nytimes.com/2008/09/03/us/politics/03party.html?partner=rssnyt&emc=rss
Listening to Palin’s speech has brought me closer to confirming my vote for the McClain-Palin ticket. Another thing we have to remember is that we have had a Democrat controlled Congress. Are they not partially responsible for all the country’s woes you have listed? While I probably won’t vote for Obama, if he does win it will be interesting to see if a Democrat controlled executive branch and legislative branch can work together and do all they promise.
September 4th, 2008 at 12:17 pm
Kelly,
You come off as a very bitter woman. Perhaps you should take some inspiration from a soccer mom who when she didnt like how things were working she pulled herself up by her bootstraps and joined the PTA and then City Council and look at her now. If you dont have a job then find one. But a word of advice, nobody is going to welcome a new employee that is a walking pity party. Welfare is reserved for those that cannot help themselves. You have just patted yourself on the back by indicating that you have a skill set superior to Tonys. Perhaps Tonys company would hire you as his superior. Then you could let your true sparkling personality shine through until they got tired of it.
Its a sad story about your director that didnt forsee the need for adequate health insurance. Further to that, did none of his work associates step up to the plate to ensure that his health didnt spiral downwards? Nobody threw this buy a bone? The govenment is not a babysitter. The expectation is that citizens that are able minded and bodied will take care of themselves with the programs offered.
As for Joe Biden…hit net worth is NEGATIVE $300.0???? At his age he owes more than he has acquired. Now thats a guy thats really going to be able to make positive economic decisions. Perhaps he should sit down with a soccer mom to determine how to get ahead in life.
Come on!
September 4th, 2008 at 12:26 pm
Kelly,
I hope your brother stays safe. Anyone who has been living in this country for the last seven years, should be very bitter… better yet… pissed off!
September 4th, 2008 at 12:31 pm
Tony Tony Tony
What qualified Ms. Palin to be Governor of Alaska? Nothing. She was put in there by the big oil companies because she ultimately works for them. Thats what Alaska is. Things work much differently here in the continental United States of America. Why hasn’t she pushed for all the alternative resources in all her years of being on a council, mayor and Governor. How many windmills has the Governor had built in Alaska? From what I see it’s awful windy during that Iditerod race.

Here’s what Obama has accomplished in his life:
“As a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Obama made official trips to Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. In August 2005, he traveled to Russia, Ukraine, and Azerbaijan. The trip focused on strategies to control the world’s supply of conventional weapons, biological weapons, and weapons of mass destruction as a first defense against potential terrorist attacks.
Following meetings with U.S. military in Kuwait and Iraq in January 2006, Obama visited Jordan, Israel, and the Palestinian territories.
He left for his third official trip in August 2006, traveling to South Africa, Kenya, Djibouti, Ethiopia and Chad. In a nationally televised speech at the University of Nairobi, he spoke forcefully on the influence of ethnic rivalries and corruption in Kenya.
Obama worked with Russ Feingold (D–WI) to eliminate gifts of travel on corporate jets by lobbyists to members of Congress and require disclosure of bundled campaign contributions under the “Honest Leadership and Open Government Act”, which was signed into law in September 2007.
He joined Chuck Schumer (D-NY) in sponsoring S. 453, a bill to criminalize deceptive practices in federal elections, including fraudulent flyers and automated phone calls, as witnessed in the 2006 midterm elections.
Obama also introduced the “Iraq War De-Escalation Act”, a bill to cap troop levels in Iraq, begin phased redeployment, and remove all combat brigades from Iraq before April 2008.
Later in 2007, Obama sponsored with Kit Bond (R-MO) an amendment to the 2008 Defense Authorization Act adding safeguards for personality disorder military discharges, and calling for a review by the Government Accountability Office following reports that the procedure had been used inappropriately to reduce government costs.
joined Chuck Hagel (R-NE) in introducing legislation to reduce risks of nuclear terrorism.A provision from the Obama-Hagel bill was passed by Congress in December 2007 as an amendment to the State-Foreign Operations appropriations bill.
Obama also sponsored a Senate amendment to the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) to provide one year of job protection for family members caring for soldiers with combat-related injuries. After passing both houses of Congress with bipartisan majorities, SCHIP was vetoed by President Bush in early October 2007, a move Obama said “shows a callousness of priorities that is offensive to the ideals we hold as Americans.”

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senators Barack Obama (D-IL), Chuck Hagel (R-NE), and Maria Cantwell (D-WA) and Congressman Adam Smith (D-WA) today hailed the Senate Foreign Relations Committee’s passage of the Global Poverty Act (S.2433), which requires the President to develop and implement a comprehensive policy to cut extreme global poverty in half by 2015 through aid, trade, debt relief, and coordination with the international community, businesses and NGOs. This legislation was introduced in December. Smith and Congressman Spencer Bachus (R-AL) sponsored the House version of the bill (H.R. 1302), which passed the House last September.

DonnaJ:
You sound amazingly independent I’ve been wondering lately. If all of you self sufficient up from the bootstraps Republicans would be willing to forfeit your Social Security. That could really nip the potential shortage right in the bud.
September 4th, 2008 at 12:39 pm
Great post Kelly. I have seriously had this high blood pressure feeling all day, where I can’t seem to calm myself down because I’m so pissed at some people (The Tony’s) of this country right now! What are they thinking?? That speech last night was a joke. If they are so sure of their campaign, why not talk about what they can do? The issues? Instead of trash talking Obama? I’m not saying it isn’t part of the game to trash talk the opponent, but somewhere in there shouldn’t you talk about your beliefs on the issues? What you are going to do?
I had that exact same thought, that I wish I could just be a simpleton and drink the koolaid, but I care too much and I can’t. I am so sick and tired of the same old terms and the MSM regurgitating the same crap.
September 4th, 2008 at 12:42 pm
Kelly,
I too, hope your brother stays safe. He also has my gratitude for volunteering to serve in our nation’s military. (I am the wife and daughter of veterans who served in our country’s military when they did not have the freedom of choice, but were drafted.)
September 4th, 2008 at 12:46 pm
McCain’s a war hero?
I guess I missed that…
September 4th, 2008 at 12:51 pm
On a completely different note, I think it would have been funny if while interviewing Terrence they had baby wipes on the couch.
September 4th, 2008 at 12:52 pm
Kelly dear…just a little news flash for you. Contrary to what you assume (remember the line about “don’t assume” from the movie the Bad News Bears?…it applies to you)…I am not a Republican. In fact, I’m 43 and a life long Democrat and have never voted for a Republican in my life. So kindly don’t refer to this as “my” convention, although I’m very impressed with the convention this year. The Democrats have disgusted me this year and have lost my vote. I don’t vote for a party, I vote for a person. I actually think and reflect and cast my vote accordingly…..and since corruption is an issue for you (as it should be)..doesn’t it bother you just a little that Barack and his thugs muscled his way to the nomination..first by the corrupt caucuses and then by the Democratic party stealing votes from Hillary and “giving” them to Barack…but that’s ok, I’m sure Barack really is all he’s cracked (no pun intended) up to be.
September 4th, 2008 at 12:55 pm
ShannonP,
What’s the deal with the wipes? I was on a blog, where someone else made a remark about Terrance and wipes.
September 4th, 2008 at 12:58 pm
Rain, in some interview he said the following and so now all the time he gets teased about baby wipes:
“Toilet paper - and no baby wipes - in the bathroom. If they’re using dry paper, they aren’t washing all of themselves. It’s just unclean. So if I go in a woman’s house and see the toilet paper there, I’ll explain this. And if she doesn’t make the adjustment to baby wipes, I’ll know she’s not completely clean.”
September 4th, 2008 at 1:02 pm
My sister loves Terrance, I wonder if this will change her mind. That’s very strange to me. Thanks for the info.
September 4th, 2008 at 1:03 pm
Kelly,
You don’t sound bitter at all. You sound like someone who sees the way things are. You sound like you’re fed up with politics as usual. You sound rational and sane and intelligent.
Yes, John McCain was a P.O.W., but I, too, find the leap to war hero difficult when I remember what was done to John Kerry in an election only four years ago. Apparently getting shot down is more heroic than saving a fellow soldier.
But because John Kerry was intelligent and thoughtful, he didn’t fit the mold of soldier. John McCain with his brash style seems like a soldier. I’d probably rather have a beer with John McCain, or even George Bush, but I’d rather have a president like John Kerry or Barack Obama.
September 4th, 2008 at 1:05 pm
Just to clarify, before I hear about it. I am not saying soldiers aren’t intelligent and thoughtful. I am saying that the stereotype of a soldier is more brash than thoughtful.
September 4th, 2008 at 1:09 pm
DonnaJ - what you have assumed about me is a lot. I have never accepted welfare – I have never collected on a bad debt, my employment record includes 2 and 3 jobs at a time, I live debt-free, educated and I work from home and have a two-year-old son. I serve on community boards, I organize historic events, and I give to charity. I don’t pitty me, I fear for our Nation and my brother (highest ranking enlisted) and his comrades. I have lead, and I have followed, and I have reflected for years. I would have never become a political standout had it not been for this administration. Before you insult me – you should question your truth and your motivations.
Tony - the choice is clear Obama.

DonnaJ - the director who passed did not work for my company, but rather the city. We did not know he was ill until his obit appeared. I was among the few in government to attend his funeral, meet his mother, AND then insist on the hiring of his replacement with full healthcare benefits as provided by my employer, who had no obligation to do so. The replacement has full benefits still today.
September 4th, 2008 at 1:35 pm
Thanks Winnie,
I didn’t see the show, but imagine it was much calmer with Elisabeth not there today.
I did see Sarah Palin’s speech, and I have to agree with the ladies on the show, I thought she did very well.
I also agree strongly with Whoopi, that no one’s adversity is, or should be, considered less than someone else’s.
I meant to comment on this yesterday, but forgot. I’m happy for Sherri that Jeffrey is now with her. I’m sure she is thrilled.
I remember the first day of school for both my girls. I was like Sherri, I didn’t want to go, it was hard to leave them.

Maryn48: Thank you for your safe wishes for my brother – he is a Bronze Star Medal recipient. He never told us he was under fire or saved someone’s life or was awarded the medal. But he did call me from Iraq the day it happened…to just say ‘hi’ and see how I was. I found out by Googling his name. I thank your family for their sacrifice as well.
Congress and Pelosi have failed miserably – I have stated so on this site as well. She is an embarrassment. This entire administration is a failure.
As far as Palin and the Alaskan Independent Party: Her husband was a member for 7 years…

Kelly,
Thats wonderful that you are able to support yourself and your family. This should be typical and not the exception. In this country everyone has the opportunity to prosper and thrive. Choices are made by the population. The negative positions that your peers have found themselves in are most likely based on choices that they have made. You mentioned your peers have been divorced, lost homes, gone without medical coverage and died because of the government. The government did not insist that people secure mortgages that they could not afford or that they didnt educate themselves about before signing. But the government is bailing out the country because of the choices that many made. When are these people accountable for thier choices? Why am I expected to pay for the mistakes of people that wanted the dream house that they could not afford?
The welfare and crime in this country stems from a very high percentage of the population that is able bodied and able minded refusing to work A JOB (let alone the 2-3 jobs that you advise you have worked to make ends meet). Too many citizens are working hard to provide for the too few that want the government to own thier situation. Save the handouts for the ones that truly need them, and lets save the whining and complaining for people in countries where they cant feed thier children for far bigger issues then refusing to get a job.
I’m sure ALL of your peers challenges are going to clear up when the government steps in (whether it be dem or cons) and fixes it for them. Wrong country, wrong form of government.
September 4th, 2008 at 2:09 pm
I am always amused when someone pops in and claims they are/were a Democrat but this election they are voting for a Republican. Like we are supposed to believe troll-speak.
The Congress was ineffectual because there was not a majority of Democrats to pass any legislation. Since Papa Bush and Lee Atwater/Rove we have seen the country ripped in two and the haves getting richer on the backs of the have nots…even the idiot Dick Morris said this administration had set the country back to the early 1900’s.

I think she did very well, she was calm and collected, clear and articulate. I think she did what her speech was meant to do. Energise the Republican base.
No, her speech didn’t have an impact on whom I’m leaning toward voting for.
September 4th, 2008 at 2:35 pm
I think Palin served her party well with her speech. Obama served the American people well with his. It was nice to hear from him what his platform is going to be and what his plans are for all of the people in this country.
September 4th, 2008 at 2:38 pm
“I think she did what her speech was meant to do. Energise the Republican base.”
I agree.
September 4th, 2008 at 2:40 pm
Kelly,
My very best wishes to your brother. I’m sure you and your family are extremely proud of him and his service.
I am so proud of, and have great respect and gratitude to all of our service men and women.
September 4th, 2008 at 2:57 pm
Thank you all for your kind wishes - I really was not soliciting sympathy, but expressing love for my brother as well as offering evidence of my insight.
DonnaJ – I don’t know who you think my peers are but I do know this: You’re blaming America’s troubles on social programs and I’m blaming corrupt government. The scale is tipped severely in favor of corrupt government and the BILLIONS, no TRILLIONS of dollars that are mishandled, funneled or stolen. There is no comparison. Social programs are for the individual who needs a temporary reprieve until they can ‘pull themselves up by their bootstraps.’ (geez, if I never hear that again) I don’t know anyone who doesn’t want to work. I worked 2 jobs for nine years because of pay inequities – and then I worked 60-70 hours/week because I wanted to. I have money in the bank, money on the way, and live modestly, within my means, as a full-time mom to my son. I volunteered on no less than 5 boards, and those who volunteered their time with me where lower-to-middle income folks. I have no respect for people who buy enormous homes that stretch their budget in order to elevate their own self-esteem. I don’t favor predatory lenders either – banks are corrupt too. The people I spoke of who lost their homes, lost homes which WERE PAID FOR, in retirement, because of Medical Debt. These people had healthcare – but their insurance just didn’t want to hold up their end of the bargain. I don’t want government to take any more money, just reallocate the money they already have and to shut-out special interest. Our government has been bought, and Rush and Hannity are paid millions to convince you and ‘your peers’ that the problem is lazy couch sitters who don’t want jobs. Ironic, how many more Americans are on the couch since Rush convinced the nation that Democrats were the real threat…
Anyone who thinks Democrats want more taxes, you need to turn off Rush. Please.

“Why am I expected to pay for the mistakes of people that wanted the dream house that they could not afford?”
Donnaj, that statement truly frightens me. It frightens me that there are people who are so out of touch.
September 4th, 2008 at 3:18 pm
Hey guys!!!
i just had to say i love kelly! here here
September 4th, 2008 at 3:49 pm
“Donnaj, that statement truly frightens me. It frightens me that there are people who are so out of touch.”…me too since this started with the Republicans.
Let’s talk about the Republican Phil Gramm, yeah the one that calls us a nation of whiners, I guess that would include anyone resentful of the bailout, eh?
“Eight years ago, as part of a decades-long anti-regulatory crusade, Gramm pulled a sly legislative maneuver that greased the way to the multibillion-dollar subprime meltdown…
In the 1990s, as chairman of the Senate banking committee, he routinely turned down Securities and Exchange Commission chairman Arthur Levitt’s requests for more money to police Wall Street; Gramm also opposed an sec rule that would have prohibited accounting firms from getting too close to the companies they audited—at one point, according to Levitt’s memoir, he warned the sec chairman that if the commission adopted the rule, its funding would be cut. And in 1999, Gramm pushed through a historic banking deregulation bill that decimated Depression-era firewalls between commercial banks, investment banks, insurance companies, and securities firms—setting off a wave of merger mania.”
Now Gramm is advising McCain and will get a top cabinet position if he wins. So how is this not a Republican negative?

To #12 Tony: Governor of a state with a population the size of Brooklyn, NY, and not a whole lot of color/ethnicity in Alaska. Think she can deal with crime in this country?
Obama defends her family and she hits Obama (with lies, may I add) last night.
Oh, and know that in Alaska she shot down any aid by about 62 percent to Special Needs Families (until now, now that SHE has a special needs child). Hypocrisy at its finest last night!
September 4th, 2008 at 4:16 pm
oh there you Obamabots go again, making fun of small town America …and I guess people don’t count unless they are of “color or ethnicity”…..news flash kids…it’s the small towns and the small states that are going to elect the next President. Obama and his supporters really should take them seriously and stop insulting them. He’ll be sorry in November if they don’t.
September 4th, 2008 at 4:17 pm
oh and Dee….yes it’s true..believe it or not (I won’t lose sleep if you don’t)…never voted Republican in my life. The Dems lost my vote this year.

Well, if any of you have relatives that are Iraqi veterans let me clue you in on something- if they were injured and lives long enough they better watch out.
My grandmother received a letter in the mail in 2005 from the Department of Defense saying that they wanted her to send them receipts of everything she purchases every month, and a copy of her monthly bank statements, you see, my grandfather was a 3-war veteran (WWII, Korea, and Vietnam)he was medically retired in 1968 100% disabled due to a bomb tearing out half of his stomach. My grandfather suffered from Malaria during WWII, and frost bit feet from Korea. He had countless surgeries. He had a stroke in 1988,and had been living in a nursery home ever since. He was paralyzed and had dementia, but my government threatened to cut his military retirement benefits if she didn’t send receipts of all her purchases each month. She was 82 years old when she received this letter, and we told her we will got to DC ourselves to fight for her,and she better not send them ANYTHING. Her VA rep. never heard of such a thing and start making phone calls, of course no one knew anything, but they told him that she must follow the orders or they would cut off the benefits. He was appalled, and told her to do it, because they can empty her bank account (he wanted to do more research) and he was afraid they would do that without
warning. My grandmother didn’t tell us about this and followed the reps. advice. After the rest of my family found out that she cooperated with them we contacted our House rep. and senator, and called the DOD and let them know we were going to obtain an attorney as well. In the interim, my grandfather passed away. I was heartbroken- this is hard, but I want people to know this and after what I saw last night, I’m going to let people know what happened to my grandmother, and see if any other older veterans that may be living a little too long for our government are going through the same thing. One thing I know is the elderly are scared and won’t say anything. My grandfather was more of a man than Bush, Cheney, Rove, all of the repubs. talking heads could ever dream to be. John McCain has money forever, so who cares, if he took the time to go over any of the bills regarding taking or giving benefits to veterans he dropped the ball. It’s too bad that all these veterans are following him just because…it’s a new time now, and he decidedly forgot some of his fellow vets. Well I will never forget the panic by grandmother suffered. I just wished my grandfather had held on, because I was ready to go to the media with this. I’ve decided that I still will get this out to someone to look into this. If I didn’t read some of the posts here I probably would not have done this, so thank you.

[...] entry echoed many of the comments that she made on today’s show, namely Palin’s discarding of Barack Obama’s work as a community [...]
September 4th, 2008 at 5:10 pm
Tony,
You mean like Palin insulted community organizers?
September 4th, 2008 at 5:37 pm
Danielle, amazingly horrifying story. When I watched the GOP convention, and saw all the vets in the front row, I wondered if they knew they were merely place mats? I am so sorry – my heart goes out to you and your family sincerely.
Go to the press, send a snippet to your local editors by email – and see who wants to run your story. That will get your local elected officials’ attention and maybe lead to a bigger story. You should do this…all the best to you.
Chris – I love you too!
Dee – NO SHEET – I get it now.
MiamiVision – Your revelation made me sick, and then made me think: Baby Trig was a blessing to this whole nation, not just for the Palin’s moral crisis. Awareness is up again, for now.
September 4th, 2008 at 6:28 pm
Danielle..thank you for posting this.
Sherri needs to do some reading on what Palin has done for children with Special Needs. Sunce she tool office in Alaska, the education funding for special needs has been cut by 62 million dollars.
http://www.gov.state.ak.us/omb/08_OMB/budget/EED/comp2735.pdf
The Annual budget for 2008, enacted by Gov. Palin is $3,156,000.

The Annual budget for 2009, enacted by Gov. Palin is $3,156,000.

This sickens me. Her words on the topic last night resulted in me turning off the tv. There is also a post on CBS news.com outlining this and the other points in her speech that are not true to her past.
It makes me sad to think that she is another person who will slash and burn needed education for our children and grandchildren and it will take way too many years to repair the damage.
September 4th, 2008 at 6:52 pm
PRIOR PSOT: I am always amused when someone pops in and claims they are/were a Democrat but this election they are voting for a Republican. Like we are supposed to believe troll-speak.
RESPONSE: LOL. That was my resposne exactly - but you were much more succinct and articulate. I think it’s possible for a life-long Democrat to choose to vote for McCain (Palin notwithstanding) - but the explanation didn’t ring true. Sounded like a troll to me too.
September 4th, 2008 at 7:05 pm
I remember a comment made about politics being a “nasty business.” It’s not much fun when it is aimed at your candidate, huh.
September 4th, 2008 at 7:33 pm
many people keep talking about Palin’s speech last night as if she wrote it. she didn’t. it was written by the Bush speech writing team. she just delivered it well (not that hard if you’ve been giving speeches all of your life and enjoy the limelight.) meanwhile, the latest about her religious beliefs are very disconcerting. she has said in the recent past that the Iraq war is part of God’s plan. so just like W, we may end up with another religion driven white house, just what our founding fathers did not want for this country, and for good reason. and this business about special needs families now having a “friend” in the white house? Palin has voted against every bill in her state to increase the help for special needs programs in the schools, etc. what kind of “friend” is that? she also voted against funds for pregnant teens who cannot afford a place to live. not every pregnant teenager has the resources her daughter does. the list goes on and on.
September 4th, 2008 at 8:06 pm
Found this on mudflats.wordpress.com
—-A commenter on this blog summed it up so well: (hat tip MH& metafilter.com)
“Jesus was a Community Organizer, and Pontias Pilate was a Governor.”
Can we cram that all on to a bumper sticker, or will we only be able to make t-shirts…—-
Palin’s speech was written by one of Bush’s speech writers complete with phonetic spellings. Like Bush she can’t pronounce nuclear so they spelled it “new-clear” for the pistol-packing mama.
September 4th, 2008 at 8:07 pm
no troll kids…just me…life long Dem choosing not to vote for a fraud.
September 4th, 2008 at 8:10 pm
Who was the last Democratic Presidential Candidate you voted for Tony?
September 4th, 2008 at 8:31 pm
I’m the one who said politics was a nasty business. I’m just glad that no matter what the outcome Obama can say that he carried himself with great dignity and grace.
He never got down in the mud with McCain and Palin. He even defended the family members of his opponents. Can McCain and Palin say the same?
September 4th, 2008 at 8:34 pm
Two words.
Hell no.
September 4th, 2008 at 8:35 pm
John Kerry for president…and of course Hillary in the latest primary.
September 4th, 2008 at 8:41 pm
Well perhaps in the next few weeks Hillary can help you continue your life long Democrat status.
For me Obama has been making the most sense since about Feb ‘08.
But we each have to make our own decisions. But even if you are a life long Democrat once you support a Republican — you wouldn’t darken the door of any democratic activity I would sponsor.
September 4th, 2008 at 8:46 pm
How very American of you San.
September 4th, 2008 at 8:47 pm
Tony,
One of my fav bumper stickers is
Friends don’t let friends vote Republican
You need to think about what values you hold that first made you vote Democrat.
September 4th, 2008 at 9:00 pm
ummm…the last I checked, we live in a free democracy, where we are free to vote for the person we feel is best qualified for the job. We may disagree, that’s great, that’s called America. But that’s the problem with you Obama thugs. Follow him blindly. That’s called a cult. Thanks, but no thanks, I’ll take America.
September 4th, 2008 at 9:09 pm
I follow Obama less blindly than McCain followed Bush for the last 8 years — 90% of the time.
September 4th, 2008 at 9:41 pm
Obama thugs??? Does McCain have thugs also?
thug n : an aggressive and violent young criminal [syn: hood, hoodlum, goon, punk, tough, toughie, strong-armer].
Don’t think you’ll find them here.
September 4th, 2008 at 9:56 pm
no, but they found them in the caucuses….oh yes, they sho did. If they’d have just voted one day (private ballot)…one person, one vote….Hillary would be the nominee. But noooooooooo…Obamathugs wouldn’t have that.
September 4th, 2008 at 9:57 pm
i’m on the east coast kids…just finished watching McCains speech and am going to dreamland. night night….let’s do it again real soon….really
September 4th, 2008 at 10:12 pm
Valerie,
Not to worry if all that vote were you, me or Tony — well the outcome is obvious. I sense Tony does not have a voting block. I also sense he has not been a life long Democrat. No matter I have been, brings me great pleasure to know I have been cancelling his vote.
Hold on everybody … here we goooooo
September 4th, 2008 at 10:58 pm
“many people keep talking about Palin’s speech last night as if she wrote it. she didn’t. it was written by the Bush speech writing team.”
Oh, please, don’t tell me you are too naive to realize that EVERY speech given has been written by some speech writer or another. Even your beloved Obama has speech writers. I guess that means that this statement goes for him, too:
“…just delivered it well (not that hard if you’ve been giving speeches all of your life and enjoy the limelight.) ”
Hmmmmm….
September 4th, 2008 at 11:36 pm
I beg to differ with you Shelby…Obama actually wrote his own speech, Hillary her own, Bill his own, Michele her own, ted his own, etc. They don’t need speech writers because they stand on passion and principles. Palin has to be carefully guided as to what to say so she doesn’t slip and make statements about what she really believes which is so far right it would scare most republicans.
September 5th, 2008 at 2:55 am
I think an interesting question for the pit bull with lipstick is exactly what are her pregnant teenage daughter’s resources going to be????? Will she and Levi be residing in the VP residence????? Where will Levi be working to provide for his family???Or will dtr be working and Levi be a stay at home dad? Are their resources going to be provided for by the U.S. citizens. They have avowed their support but we should know the source of their $$$$$$upport.

RESPOSNE: ROTFLMAO
September 5th, 2008 at 8:37 am
To-Michelle #79,
Obama has speech writers. See: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/01/20/fashion/20speechwriter.html?ex=1358485200&en=4963f4fc621b4eed&ei=5124&partner=permalink&exprod=permalink
All politicians have speech writers and/or ghost writers. To suggest otherwise is naive. That doesn’t necessarily diminish the power of the speech. It can still reflect the speaker’s own “passion and principles”.
September 5th, 2008 at 9:55 am
LOLOLOL…I’m also ROTFLMAO…because it’s humorous to see that some of you folks just can’t comprehend that some Democrats actually won’t vote for BO. You can all laugh, but I have the last laugh because it’s true (and I swear this on my father’s grave), that I am a Democrat and WILL NOT be voting for BO….and I am DEFINITELY not the only one. Now I think BO will probably win. But some Dems, like me, are choosing not to vote for him. I’m willing to admit, that BO will probably win…so how come you guys can’t just accept the fact that some Dems are choosing differently this year??? and it’s ok.
September 5th, 2008 at 12:43 pm
No one on the View has been more partisan than TLB. Sure Rosie was against the war and spoke out about it, but I don’t think she Joy or Whoopi has hosted luncheons for candidates wives and spoke at the DNC. Whoopi may have before she joined, but I don’t see any of them out there promoting Obama the way TLB is promoting McCain and his VP …AKA Caribou Barbie… CB for all you cool folks. That’s what Stephanie Miller calls her.
Have you ever gone in a store and you seen a kid kicking and screaming on the floor, because he can’t have his way? Well most people think the best thing to do is to ignore the screaming child, and don’t give in to him. That’s for my friend Kelly.
September 5th, 2008 at 1:01 pm
The reason, deal troll Tony, there is no way you are a lifelong Dem who just happens to be voting for McShame is because the values between the 2 parties, especially at this time in history with the erosion of the constitution over the last 8 years is so vast, it’s just more than highly unlikely a Dem would talk as reactionary right as you do. So please go find one of the many websites where you can find huge numbers of your ilk instead of bothering us here. Unless you want to take some kind of intelligent conservative stance, which is more than welcome.
September 5th, 2008 at 2:35 pm
I’ll say it again….real slow for you ok Mer??…I…am …a …life …long….Democrat…..I didn’t say I was going to vote for JMcC…I’m just saying the Dems lost my vote this year….and there are millions of us in my “ilk”
and I’ll hang here as long as I please.
September 5th, 2008 at 3:02 pm
When I was deciding which Democrat to support, one of the issues I thought about was Cuba. And I realized Hillary would still treat it as a pariah because of her family.
And sorry Hillary wasn’t even successful as chief executive of her presidential campaign.
Ideally a Democrat does what is best for his and her country. So I’ve always voted for pro-choice candidates even though personally if I’d wanted an abortion I could have afforded to fly outside the USA to get it.
The question comes down to this: Do you want Karl Rove or the “fraud” Obama selecting the next youngish Sumpreme Court justices?
September 5th, 2008 at 3:40 pm
Caribou Barbie!!!! HAhahahahahahah
I just saw this - sooo funny. And I got ya, wink wink…….Caribou Barbie. That’s better than Oil Barbie.
