View-related links for January 9, 2009 and Photos of NY Times Arts and Leisure Event
UPDATED TO ADD: Jezebel has some info on what the ladies had to say at the NY Times event.
Sherri Shepherd spoke with Entertainment Tonight about the Tom Cruise interview and the death of John Travolta and Kelly Preston’s son. (Video/article)
The obituary for Elisabeth Hasselbeck’s grandfather is online. (Cleveland Plain Dealer)
The View hosts appeared together and the New York Times Arts and Leisure Weekend last night (photos above and below). Whoopi had an interesting interaction with a photographer.
I am trying to locate video of the group’s talk at the event. I will post it later if I am able to do so. I thought the photo below of Barbara Walters was a bit strange because of the expression on her face, the angle, and microphone and tape recorder in the shot. Maybe it is supposed to show that the press really wants to hear what she has to say.

RE: Whoopi and the photographer:
Wow. What an ugly, hateful thing to say to someone. And for what - a picture. I think a lot of these papzzis are rude and mean spirited.
That said, Whoopi handled it very well.
The pics, Bits looks cute, Barb is dressed very nicely (as usual) and Joy looks nice.

RE: Whoopi and the photographer:
In a feeble attempt to get her attention he yelled, “Whoopi, why do you always play the ugly-duckling in all your movies.”
As one fan put it, “Almost instantly everyone just got quiet,” and as though she was on the set of The Color Purple, Goldberg pointed her ring and index finger at the paparazzi and sternly said, “Everything you done to me…I already done to you.”
I didnt really understand what she meant….. but then again, I didnt watch The Color Purple (I know… terrible arent I)…. so if someone could enlighten me…..
I didnt really like the picture of Elisabeth not sure if it was because of the outfit… or because of the pose… it might be both.
They all looked nice, and Whoopi looked like she just crawled out of bed…. I really dont understand the “Im Whoopi Goldberg… I dont have to look nice” attitude…. it is kinda disturbing.

Roger, it was a line from The Color Purple.
She turned the table on the photographer, using a quote from the movie he referenced.

EH, just looked puny next to all of them. Like she was shrinking, all in black. Almost did not recognize her. Very demure. All four of them looked nice. Come now, Whoop, could you have at least worn black denim? Good for you for putting the photog in his place. It sure should make you appreciate it when a fan lovingly/admiringly approches you, huh??

Thanks, Stacee, for clarifying.
I didn’t know the quote either. Good on Whoopi! That was a very apropos retort.
EH really looks like she is carrying some baby weight.
I think Sherri would looked better with her colors inverted. If she had black on top and white on the skirt, I think she would look more balanced and less top-heavy.
Joy has been looking better than ever lately.

Joy does look nice. She knows what works for her.

Alright…. Im gonna say it.
These pictures were taken after the taping of the show yesterday. Sherri Shepherd wore the same dress. I think Joy did too but took off her sweater.
Why did Whoopi dress down? She looked good on the show, but when she went to a “red carpet” event, she said screw you and went in a ratty jean shirt.
Im not really hip about it all… but I thought “fashion” was a way to make a statement… why is Whoopi’s statement….. screw you?

OK well I’m just gonna say it too.
Whoopi looks like she just rolls out of bed, jumps in a taxi and shows up to work.
Her tops are usually stretched out, her pants look like she’s had them on for days and she usually looks like she’s wearing bedroom shoes. On a cuple of occasions, I have seen where she looks comfortable and stylish, but those days are becoming few and far between.
Now, before anyone says she can wear what she wants and she’s comfortable and she’s not being pretentious — Yes, you’re right on all counts. However, we are for the most part judged on the manner we present ourselves and Whoopi consistently looks sloppy.
I mean, at least Sherri dresses up and looks like she is trying. But I agree with Roger; the cut and color of her shirt/blouse makes her look incredibly top heavy. I don’t think it’s flattering at all. I also agree that it makes her look unbalanced. Sherri seems to have a penchant for those types of blouses. I think they would be better suited for someone with a smaller bust.

I still say Bits looks cute. But something about the poses, the hat and the manner in which she is dressed makes me feel she is trying to shrink into the background. It’s very interesting. A few people suspect she might be pregnant. While it’s possible shemight just be grieving and not want to be “out there”, something tells me it’s quite possible she may well be expecting again.
I have not seen her in a few weeks and her face definitely looks fuller.
I guess time will tell.

Thanks Winnie,
for the photo’s & links.
I thought everyone looked nice.
Whoopi has always said, that she wears what she is comfortable in. If she is comfortable with what she wears, then…I feel good for her.

# 8 Stacee,
I wrote & submitted my comment before I got to see your comment.
I have to, and do, agree with your points.
However, I’m not sure that whoopi cares what anyone else thinks about her outfits.

Sandy Says: “However, I’m not sure that whoopi cares what anyone else thinks about her outfits.”
MY RESPONSE: Oh, I think that’s apparent. However, I gave my opinion on how I think she looks in what she wears. Just like she or anyone else does on the show gives their opinions on various topics.

The only thing I’ll say about Whoopi is she should wear a bra. After a certain age gravity kicks in. It just looks nicer IMO. Believe me I have women in my family who should never go without a bra in public.

“Whoopi has always said, that she wears what she is comfortable in. If she is comfortable with what she wears, then…I feel good for her.”
I’m with you on that Sandy. People always complain that they wish “real people” were on TV and then one dresses like a “real person” they complain about that too. Point is…people are going to complain no matter how you dress, so I’d dress how I was comfortable too.

ShannonP Says: “People always complain that they wish “real people” were on TV and then one dresses like a “real person” they complain about that too. ”
MY RESPONSE: Well I’m not one of the people that see this as a “real person” issue. I’m not one to get caught up in the whole glitz and glam thing, it does nothing for me personally. I happen to think one can be comfortable and look sleek and neat too. I just happen to think a lot of times Whoopi looks sloppy and unkempt. IMO.
LOL about the bra, Rain
