Watching the View Off-Topic Thread October 30th

by

It has become nearly impossible to moderate all of the comments, especially when I get home from work and there are over 250 comments on a post. I recognize that many readers come to this site to discuss the The View and they do not want to sift through hundreds of unrelated comments, either. Therefore, what I am going to do is, at least through the election, is offer a daily off-topic thread. This thread will be the place to argue about the election, post links, and rumors. Anyone who continues to post these kind of unrelated things on the View recaps and View-related posts will have their posts deleted. I have plenty of time in the next few days to stay on top of it and this will be strictly enforced.

That being said, this is where you can post off-topic things for today. The commenting on this post will be closed tomorrow morning and a new thread opened. Although you can be off-topic, please be respectful.

[...] Due to the extremely heated and off-topic nature of the commenting lately as a result of the upcoming election, I have decided to take the advice of several readers and make a separate post area where you all can come to comment on things that don’t pertain to The View. That way those people who come here to actually talk about The View and what they discussed on the show will not have to wade through hundreds of comments of talking points, links, and rumors. The comment section on my View recaps and articles will be more strictly enforced, without me worrying about stifling anyone’s right to speak their mind. Today’s off-topic thread is here: Watching the View Off-Topic Thread October 30th. [...]

    Winnie–

The more I come here the more impressed I get.

This is the only blog that I go to on a regular basis. I tell people about it all the time. Keep up the good work.

Im really pleased that I found this site.

    Thanks again.

  3. diane10 Says:

Yes, it is a stimulating blog. Ditto on keeping up the good work!

  4. June Says:

    Winnie,

Thank you so much for all the work you put into this blog. I volunteer at another site seasonally (transcribing dialog as it’s spoken) so I understand the effort that goes into something like this.

Also, I think an off-topic thread is great. It might be helpful even after the election, for all sorts of reasons. I’ve seen them on other sites and they are very eclectic!

  5. Kelly Says:

    Excellent Winnie – THANKS.

(kinda like detention hall with the ‘cool monitor’ on duty)

  6. rainlillie Says:

I wonder what complaint TLB will have about Obama’s Infomercial. I thought it was very positive and he offered solutions to the problems that every day people are facing.

  7. rainlillie Says:

    Winnie,

Thanks so much for the thread.

  8. Julia Says:

Rainlillie….EH is talking to Hannity right now for her “opinions”. Oh by the way just read today that Joe the Plumber who is out on the campaign trail stumping for McCain might not even need to buy the plumbing business he was thinking about because he might get a country music record deal
    http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1008/15072.html
    Amazing!

  9. rainlillie Says:

    Thanks Julia!
Unless the transcript is posted online, I won’t know what was said. I can’t listen to Hannity. This is from one of the links Winnie posted.

“It has gotten so bad that even Barbara had to warn her about not attributing statements to Barack Obama without proof.”

That would explain why BW has corrected TLB a few times. She did it the other day when TLB said Biden said something, BW said he didn’t say that.

  10. rainlillie Says:

I wish BW would take over as moderator, she does keep things flowing. It seems WG talks too much and is always cutting Joy off when she’s trying to make a point.

  11. Maria Says:

Obama answered no questions last night. It was the same things he has been saying for months and as usual without any details. Only one change - now he is down to no family getting an increase in taxes below 200,000 - it was if you can remember 250,000! His VP candidate put it at 150,000. Don’t you all see what is going on here? My God please read. Also check out the concerns about the contributions coming into to his run for the presidency. At least educate yourselves on the things going on here - that is unless you all have drunk too much of the coolaide already.

  12. June Says:

    #10 rainlillie:

Do you ever get the feeling that Whoopie talks to the audience ie: us, like we don’t comprehend what the topic is. It seemed like that yesterday to me. She stopped the “Topics” twice to add a long-winded explaination of what was being debated. I’m not saying some of her explanations are good, but sometimes it sounds like the “View 101!”

  13. June Says:

    opps, meant “not good”!

  14. diane10 Says:

To be sure, Elisabeth really needs to watch her p’s and q’s with BW. Wouldn’t it be interesting if Joe the Plumber did get his own record deal? I actually thought BW was already the moderator but if you say so I hope she takes over, too. That would keep WG from cutting JB off and Joy always has great things to say about her candidate for president.

The Infomercial might not come up with EH! What if it doesn’t? It was barely mentioned in the newspapers today. If Joy likes the Infomercial then I think that would nice. Oh, and WG, too.

    What does “TLB” stand for?

  15. Julia Says:

Just watched Obama on The Daily Show …what a class act, not one bit of negativity! How can anyone not respect this guy? He runs a campaign with dignity, on the other hand, McCain/Palin still spreading negativity, they are not even cohesive in their campaign or party…..how can people still support that or want that in the Presidential office?

  16. Kelly Says:

Sam the Plumber is no different than “She Bangs William Hung.” A flash in the pan…but he let it go to his head. I find it INTERESTING that his handler is from Texas…Bush’s hometown….and he’s from Ohio.

Sam the Plumber is now recording Robo Calls for McCain. Just your average Joe!!!

  17. diane10 Says:

“Act” is right. Obama is really good when he is in front of a teleprompter. Wonder how WG will feel about his Infomercial?

  18. heather speaks Says:

joe the plumber is such a joke. record deal? book? publicist? only in america!

  19. Julia Says:

Again here is an example of MCCain’s leadership skills….. he has the backing of an unlicensed plumber who might buy a company and doesn’t want to pay more taxes but doesn’t even pay the back taxes that he owes, doesn’t want to be scrutinized by the media but is out there doing talk shows and stumping for McCain and giving his opinion on foreign affairs and now doing robo calls and this is the MCain’s average American? Is that MCCain’s trickle down theory…is he going to help all the Joe sixpacks like that?
I am sure that Joe the Plumber is not paying for all his accomadations on the campaign
    trail……

  20. diane10 Says:

Heather: I really enjoyed reading your views on welfare. We have the welfare system in place so that it does work for people. It’s that extra boost when you are already doing the best you can do and need a “lift” to make it so. Unfortunately, the system isn’t foolproof and there are exceptions. T

  21. diane10 Says:

#19 Pure speculation but comical at the same time.

  22. Stacee Says:

    Julia Says:
“Again here is an example of MCCain’s leadership skills….. he has the backing of an unlicensed plumber who might buy a company and doesn’t want to pay more taxes but doesn’t even pay the back taxes that he owes, doesn’t want to be scrutinized by the media but is out there doing talk shows and stumping for McCain and giving his opinion on foreign affairs and now doing robo calls and this is the MCain’s average American?”

    MY RESPONSE: Exactly, Julia.
He was tired of the media, yet every chance he gets he is in front of the camera.

  23. Roger from Ohio Says:

    #11 Maria–

Only one change - now he is down to no family getting an increase in taxes below 200,000 - it was if you can remember 250,000! His VP candidate put it at 150,000.

    It has always been 200,000 for a person… 250,000 for a married couple…. 150,000 is still under 250,000

that is unless you all have drunk too much of the coolaide already.

    I believe kool-aid is correct

  24. Roger from Ohio Says:

I just got back from the Defiance, Ohio McCain rally

    I carried a 4ft Obama sign on 6ft “stilts”

Some people said they would put a video on youtube, and CNN came and took video of it as well.

They tried to get us to leave but we said no and stayed.

I just LOVE freedom of speech!!

  25. Roger from Ohio Says:

Oh… BTW….. Joe the Plumber couldnt make it. I guess an hour away is too far. It was good to see he was being a “maverick”

    I gotta go

    Please VOTE!

  26. Linda Says:

Maria #11: Obama never changed his numbers. The $250,000 number has always been for no tax increases — the $200,000 figure is for TAX CUTS. In a nutshell:

Under $250,000 — your taxes are not increased.
    $200,000 - 250,000 - no tax change
    Under $200,000 - you’ll see a tax CUT

    Understand now?

  27. Linda Says:

ETA: Oops - meant to say Over $250,000 - taxes will increase by about 3%

  28. rainlillie Says:

People are forgetting that some of our troops families have turned to social services for aid. That’s a damn shame right there! The Bush administration with McCain’s support have treated our fighting men and women like trash! Walter Reed was truly disgusting! http://www.navytimes.com/news/2007/05/military_foodstamps_070508w/

  29. rainlillie Says:

“joe the plumber is such a joke. record deal? book? publicist? only in america!”

I agree. He’s one big fraud!

  30. rainlillie Says:

Obama has to dumb things down I guess. Maybe next time he can throw in a few winks and you betcha’s and golly gees.

  31. rainlillie Says:

Here’s the site with both tax plans.

    http://www.parade.com/news/intelligence-report/archive/how-much-would-you-pay-taxes.html

  32. Kelly Says:

Roger: I think Sam the Plumber missed your rally to record his Robo Calls. Please send a link of your sign when you find it!

#19 Julia - everything you said is right on – no speculation about it.

I’m going to go vote now!!!! So excited!!! Paper ballot (no Diebold).

    Excellent Point Rain!

  33. June Says:

    #25 Roger

Shoot, the other day you said something about taking a sign and asking for ideas, I forgot to write mine in.

(Nothing to do with politics, just humor)

In the theme of Joe, the plumber…Betty, the barista….

I was thinking, Roger, Joy’s squeeze! LOL

  34. diane10 Says:

#30 Rain I must admit, that’s not a bad idea. It’s working for Sarah.

  35. kaytee Says:

Don’t forget about Obama on Racheal Maddox tonight!

  36. rainlillie Says:

Yeah, but the Obama supporters don’t need him to dumb things down for them. It’s the people on the other side who have a hard time understanding him.

After 8 years of Bushims, it’s nice to hear a man speak with such a command of the English language.

  37. rainlillie Says:

    kaytee,
    My DVR is set.

  38. Lopez Says:

The Republican bloggers are encouraging their visitors to call the LATimes Headquarters and demand the release of the Obama/Rashid Khalidi tapes.

Dems please call the LATimes and ask that the tapes NOT be released. Let our voices be heard. Spread the word to all Dems and have them call. Here’s the number:(213) 237-5000

  39. marthe Says:

Huffpo has a CNN piece with a McCain rep asking him to name one other anti-semitic person Obama has palled around with.

From Elisabeth Bumiller in Wednesday’s NYTs politics blog quoting McCain:
“Twice he looked the American people in the eye and said he would sit down with me before he abandoned public financing. He didn’t mean a word of it. When it was in his interest to break his promise, he tossed it aside like it didn’t mean a thing. He is the first candidate since the Watergate scandal to abandon the public financing system, and his campaign is now being flooded with hundreds of millions of dollars in undisclosed and questionable donations.”

So now he’s trying to make voters think of Nixon when they think of Obama?

And Joe the Plumber was a no show in Defiance! Joe said he never got a follow-up confirmation call from anybody. A car was sent to pick him up for later rallies.

And 1000s of children were bussed in, in violation of the school districts apolitical policy.

If you love my clunky clutching-at-straws campaign, then vote for me!

  40. Pat Says:

Huffpo sure has some angry people on staff…the writer stabbed her lover 220 times with a screw driver..wow…at least Michelle Malkin’s site isn’t that angry and crazy

  41. diamondlil Says:

Lopez…….why don’t you want the tapes to be released?

  42. Pat Says:

#38 why are you so afraid of the tape…???

probably shows bo and mo sitting with the ayres…oh no that’s right he had no dealings with him they just served on a board together. OOOPS. And probably he did a little speach from his teleprompter too…but don’t worry, they will release it after they edit it…so no sweat

  43. rainlillie Says:

    Lopez,
The reason the LA Times doesn’t want to release the tape, is because they promised their source it wouldn’t be made public. It’s sort of like the whole Judith Miller thing. She went to jail rather than give up her source. McCain gave money to Khalidi, so I’m not sure why he even wants to go down that road.

  44. Joey Says:

I am a proud Canadian with many proud American friends and relatives. I am deeply concerned with the outcome of your election. The world has become very interdependent and it is important to “recognize our differences and celebrate our similarities”(OR SUMPIN’ LIKE DAT). World wide religion should play no part in our relationship other than possibly teaching us tolerance. The anti-choice stance of the American Republican party is a thousand steps backward for women and their almost cultist stance on Chritianity (we know the truth)is frightening.

We’re in this together and a profound understanding of different cultures and history is essential.

  45. Lopez Says:

Rain - McCain is pitiful. EH will conveniently forget to mention McCain’s contribution in tomorrow’s show (if this is a HT).

  46. Julia Says:

Lopez tomorrow is Friday and the show is pre taped so we will have to wait till Monday!

  47. rainlillie Says:

    #43. Joey,
I visited Canada this summer and it was great!
    ITA! with what you said.

  48. Julia Says:

Marthe 4000 students were bussed to the event from all surrounding school districts to make a total 0f 6000 people at the event. So that meant that only 2000 went willingly!

  49. Joey Says:

Is anyone concerned with the fact that Mr. McCain may be suffering from post-traumatic stress syndrome due to his terrible war experiences? This could account for his use of the C word and other serious displays of anger;it would be more likely that he would be than not.He is surely a war hero but perhaps does not have the calm dedicated understanding approach that is needed to work with world cultures.

  50. rainlillie Says:

    Lopez,
ITA, and I wonder if she’ll object to the children appearing at the rally. Remember she didn’t like the children appearing in an Obama ad.

  51. rainlillie Says:

    Joey,
I have long been concerned about McCain’s mental state. At the last debate he could hardly contain his anger.

  52. marthe Says:

From what I’ve read, he has always been hotheaded and impulsive.

I just talked with my mom. She said she’s not voting for anyone who has said “I approve this message.” We laughed umm, that leaves you Ralph Nader.

Lol, I deleted a personal story about good republicans and bad republicans. I hope that the moderates can finally reclaim the Republican party.

And it is good to have these different threads, but then it does get a little confusing about where to post what.

But Joey, the production values ain’t gonna get better, because BW and BG look at show expenses as money coming out of their pockets. They are NOT spread-the-wealthers. How frustrating that must have been for Rosie.

  53. mibi Says:

Had a cool experience today when wating in the check out line when the woman in front of me ask the clerck if she voted yet she the clerck said yes a few weeks ago when early voting started. loves it.

    obamas good on maddow

  54. Roger from Ohio Says:

    #36 rainlillie–

After 8 years of Bushims, it’s nice to hear a man speak with such a command of the English language.

Dang you rain……. u keep typing the things that Im thinking. I tried to figure it out……. but I dont think that I have disagreed with anything that I have seen you type.

dont know about u … but Im scared ;)

  55. Roger from Ohio Says:

    #41 Pat

#38 why are you so afraid of the tape…???

Pat…. Ill type slow so u can understand.

    1) they told their source that they would keep the tape private. That was the requirement of receiving the story.

    2) Being at the same place that someone else is at doesnt mean u associate with that person. Do you know how many “criminals” are at the mall when u are there?

    3) If this Rashid Khalidi guy (yes I googled his name) is such a bad guy, why did John McCain fund him in 1998 when he was chairman of the International Republican Institute. McCain approved a grant of $448,873 to Khalidi’s Center for Palestine Research and Studies for work in the West Bank.

So Pat, why dont u tell us about this guy that John McCain hangs around with.

  56. Roger from Ohio Says:

    #42 rainlillie–

Dang it… u did it again!!

    hugs

  57. Roger from Ohio Says:

    #54

When I googled his name, this was the article that I got the info from (there are lots more)

    http://firedoglake.com/2008/10/29/woops-mccain-funded-rashid-khalidi/

    Still waiting Pat.

  58. Becky Says:

There is only ONE Messiah and he is not a mere mortal. People get real.

  59. Becky Says:

McCain is tied to Ayers and Khalidi. McCain, Ayers gave Khalidi money for his organization. So……

Get informed people. Remember those who live in glass houses should not throw stones.

  60. Becky Says:

I am sure he knows already. Seriously…..

  61. Becky Says:

I just read your comments Roger. Thanks for the info. There is no need for me to reinterate.

  62. Becky Says:

I, personally, have not heard of anyone who has referred to him as the Messiah. If he has heard of it, then I am sure he is not taking it to heart.

    Truly

    Hugz

  63. Lopez Says:

    Hugz

  64. kaytee Says:

i know i’m up pretty late, but i was on the other board and read that EH said something about Michelle Obama. I have seen it referred to before, but somehow I must have missed it. so…
Can someone please tell me what EH said about Michelle Obama and how did I miss it?
I feels so out of the loop!

  65. marthe Says:

Ed, are you a law-breaking alcohol-selling felon like Cindy McCain’s dad? Hoisting the rum with the pirate-shirt-wearing brittleness?

Bitsy introduced Cindy at a convention luncheon and spake thusly: Cindy came into our hair and makeup room, fresh as can be, and unlike another wife of a political candidate who shall remain nameless, she didn’t come with a list of topics that we weren’t allowed to touch. Nope, that’s because she has nothing to hide.”

  66. Joey Says:

Marthe; I felt at that moment that Elizabeth Hasselbeck had let our gender down.

  67. marthe Says:

And I am pretty sure that the McCains are personally benefitting from the “independent” for-profit Red Elephant Creations based in Phoenix sale of t-shirts, including Joe the Plumber.

  68. marthe Says:

    Your shoe is untied.

  69. Becky Says:

#70 Chill out. I don’t have my head in the sand, child. I haven’t heard anyone refer to him as the Messiah. This is honestly the first time I have head of such drivel and I still think the man is not taking it to heart.

That is about as serious as the old man being a maverick. You copied my use of the word ’seriously’. So……you have ownership of certain words in our vocab now? Grow up!

  70. kaytee Says:

nevermind, i got the low down on the other page. again, thanks missy.

  71. Jenny Says:
