Watching the View “Pick a Guest Host” Contest
Since the last contest I had may have been a bit too challenging, I decided that this contest should be easy.
The Rules:
Leave a comment on this blog naming who you would pick to be a View guest host for Elisabeth Hasselbeck in her absence. You must also say why you would think that person would make a great guest host.
The best answer (completely subjective from my point of view) will win a View fall mug. Feel free to name someone who has already guest hosted, but in terms of creativity points you may want to select someone new.
Everyone else who enters will have their name placed in a hat and two randomly selected people will also win a View fall mug.
You must use a valid e-mail address when you leave your comment or I will not be able to contact you if you are one of the selected winners.
Deadline for entries is October 30th at 5:00 p.m. central time. One entry per person.
Questions? Leave a comment or e-mail at winnieblogs(at)gmail.com (Replace (at) with @)

I think that I’d like to see a gay man co-host with them! After all, gay men are a woman’s best friend! Maybe they could have one of the men from the Fab Five or Elton John!!

I think Jeanine Garofalo would make a great guest host. She’s very well informed, highly intelligent and she’s witty. Not only is
Jeanine a comedian and actress, she was also the co-host of a radio program. She knows how to keep the conversation flowing on a wide range of topics, and she knows how to conduct interviews.

Paula Deen would also make a great guest host. She’s so warm, and cuddly, she’s like the aunt that gives you a big hug every time you see her.
Her laugh is intoxicating! Once she had President Carter as a guest on her show and it was nice to see her interacting with him. She could also give viewers a southern point of view.
She has a genuine warmth about her that’s very rare. My 9 year old and I never miss her show.

I agree with RainLillie about Jeanine Garofalo. She would be awesome. (Don’t count mine as an entry though. I’m just agreeing here. :))

I was coming here to say Janine Garofalo *lol* I saw her on Bill Maher a few weeks back and thought she did very well. I’ll add a couple of others, Arianna Huffington of Huffingtonpost.com for a liberal side and the only Republican person that I’d like to hear from is maybe Georgette Mosbacher (I think that is how you spell her name). Rosie loves her so I’d be interested to hear her more. She was or is involved with the Republican National Convention. Both would be able to handle politics better than most on the panel and that is what I’d like to hear more of.
October 23rd, 2007 at 8:58 am
Well… duh! I didn’t read the whole thing. Just one name… well then my one pick will be Georgette Mosbacher.

My vote is for the mom of the sextuplets who is on TLC, Kate Gosselin. I think she could provide some interesting information about parenting and also about what it is like to be on tv while trying to raise 8 kids.
October 23rd, 2007 at 10:46 am
Roseanne! She was in talks with the show to be Rosie’s replacement, and I think she would bring back a little controversy that Rosie viewers miss.

If they are looking to have a Republican to take EH’s place I think a good choice would be Patricia Heaton. She’s smart, articulate and very witty. She’s warm yet at the same time she can have that little “bite” - I really enjoy her.
If they are looking to resuscitate the show while EH is away I would love to see Kathy Griffin back. She’s fun, doesn’t hold anything back, and can carry on an intelligent conversation. People sometimes say her humour is controversial but often she’s saying what everyone else is thinking but are to afraid to say it! I LOVE Kathy!

I would LOVE for Stephen Colbert (the character he plays) to guest-host for a day. He is all over the news now that he has declared his presidential candidacy to run as South Carolina’s “favorite son” — as both a Democrat and a Republican. He was even on Meet the Press. Though it would have been great TV and so funny to have him on while EH was still there (what is wrong with their casting people? are they asleep at the wheel?), to bond with her as a fellow right-winger, he could still be very funny as her right-wing fill-in. Joy would have a field day with him, Whoopi and even Sherri would appreciate his humor, and Babs would at times not “get” him, but that in and of itself would be funny. He could do some truthiness, plug his book (Tim Russert read some of the excerpts, which were Colbert’s “stand” on some of the issues of the day) shamelessly, and … discuss his alter ego, “Papa Bear” Bill O’Reilly (who apparently is The View’s new best friend). I think if The View had him on it would surely breathe some fresh air into this abysmal new season, and would make them seem more relevant and a little edgier than they have been. It would be a dream show for me, because I just love Stephen and try not to ever miss The Colbert Report. Mediabistro has an article today on how Colbert is polling ahead of some of the real candidates. I’ll try to put the link in at the bottom of this post.
(Sean: I also love your idea for having Roseanne…. Though I don’t know if all of Rosie’s fans are wanting someone on who is controversial for the sake of being controversial–just someone who is couragous about speaking out on things most shows tiptoe around.)

What about Mary Matlin, I think that’s her name. She’s a Republican but married to James Carville a powerful Democrat. I tend to be Democrat but this woman is super intelligent, powerful but more importantly still a Mom. I think she would be perfect. I could stand to listen to a Republican as long as she was intelligent.
October 23rd, 2007 at 1:06 pm
P.S. Stephen Colbert would also be perfect because The View has had so many presidential candiates on (just the Democrats, I believe)….
October 23rd, 2007 at 10:11 pm
Colbert would be a fun guest host. I wonder if the ladies on the View would get him.
October 24th, 2007 at 5:25 pm
How about Dave Chappelle?
1) He’s funny.
2) He’s controversial.
3) He’s opinionated.
4) He’s prone to unexplained absences (this will give Barbara someone new to make excuses for).
5) He’s probably not in it for the long haul.
6) He does great impressions, much better than Rosie’s take on the Donald. I’m Rick James…

Randi: I like the Fab Five idea. Carson Kressley in particular would be nimble, & funny on his feet.
Rainlillie: You’re right that they might not all get Stephen, but they could make the effort to try….( If they’ve watched Bile O’Reilly, they’d get it.)
This is a fun contest, Winnie.

I have a few choices of who I would like to co-host. I think what the view needs most is what we lost when Meredith and Lisa left: intelligent, articulate, and informed women who can talk about anything from underwear to war. My choices are (in no particular order):
1. Arianna Huffington
2. Janeane Garofalo
3. Martha Stewart
4. Natalie Portman
5. Benazir Bhutto (unlikely, but there has never been a South Asian woman on the panel)
6. J.K. Rowling

I would like to see Bill Mahr as guest host on “The View”. The sparks would fly sky high! Bill would have some laughing their heads off, probably not Sherri though but maybe she could rachet up her chit chat when he begins his atheism beliefs rants. It would be a “sit on the edge of the couch” time through the whole show!

May, I agree! Bill Maher would be so funny. His take on marriage, children, etc. They’d all have a field day with him. I’d love it.
October 28th, 2007 at 5:14 pm
I think that Halle Berry would make an excellent co-host right now. With everything going on in her life right now, I think it would be interesting to watch her interact with the ladies. It would be interesting to hear her views on a topic concerning child-birth or parenthood since she is an expectant mother. Furthermore, with all the controversy surrounding her comments concerning the wild fires in CA and the Jewish Community, it would give her an excellen forum through which she could provide an apology. Or, it could be just the opposite and something she says could blow up back in her face. And “the View” watcher love an occasional trainwreck! Plus, it would establish her as a credible person and possibly allow her to open herself up to a new audience in the daytime talk forum!

I think it would be interesting to have a male guest host. A well known, witty, intelligent, knowledgeable male. It’s different, and it would probably bring more viewers. Especially if he was very well known.
It would be very interesting to hear a Male’s point of view on a lot of the hot topics. Note the differences between female-male, note the interactions. just would be interesting to me all around.
I’m not sure who the male would be, I’ve ran so many different ones through my mind. Perhaps Steven Colbert (Peaches pick) Perhaps Jerry Seinfeld..I’d love that. I think he’d definitely bring some laughs.

Peaches,
You should read this article about Colbert. Edward’s campaign response to Colbert is really funny.

Thanks, Rainlillie. That was fun!
Boy, did you see the looks on the panelists’ faces today as they talked about Stephen? They did not get him at all, or they just don’t like him. Or something else weird was going on. They didn’t even mention that he is playing a character; they acted like he was a run-of-the-mill stand-up comedian.
