Whoopi Goldberg in All-Star Celebrity Softball Game
As part of Major League Baseball All-Star weekend there will be a celebrity softball game featuring celebrities and Hall-of-Fame baseball players. The July 13th game, called the “2008 Taco Bell All-Star Legends and Celebrity Softball Game” will feature, among others, The View moderator Whoopi Goldberg. Lucky for her she won’t have to be getting back on her bus anytime soon, though, as the game will take place at Yankee Stadium in New York City.
Whoopi Goldberg is no stranger to baseball. She voiced the character of Babe Ruth’s bat in the animated film Everyone’s Hero in 2006. (Photo below). I doubt that will help her any with her swing, but you never know. Maybe co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck can give her some tips, considering the fact that she played softball at Boston College.
Other scheduled celebrity participants include Billy Crystal, Marlee Matlin, Chris Rock, George Lopez, and celebrity chef Bobby Flay. Among the Major League Baseball players scheduled to appear are Ozzie Smith, Rich “Goose” Gossage, George Brett and Rollie Fingers. For a full list of participants visit MLB.com.
The game will take place Sunday June 13th at 4:00 p.m. eastern time. It will not air on television until the following day, Monday June 14th. The time is a bit up in the air because the taped broadcast is scheduled to air following the live coverage of the Homerun Derby which starts at 8:00 p.m. eastern time. I should be able to post a recap of her experience in the game and possibly even video for those of you who don’t normally like to watch sporting events.
